If staff can be melee, spear can be land.

you guys ever heard of monks? they use staves for melee all the time, in the real world, the only use of a staff is for melee, since magic doesn;t exist lmfao it’s more common for a staff to be melee than to shoot fireballs out of it :/
I don’t believe that instanced content is really the goal of the company.
^ This. Just look at how hard they’ve been dodging the issue of whether or not the “challenging group content” in HoT will be instanced or not.
Other games take it seriously. If it’s what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here.
notice how all other mmo’s that took raiding seriously have gone free to play ? lmfao and gw2 is still on it’s feet lol pretty sure gw2 is doing something right, i’ve raided in wow for 8 years and personally raiding aint kitten, nothing fun about working so hard to get gear, only for it to be irrelevant 6 months later, it’s the worst experience ever
Normally, I don’t post here. However, I’ve been doing some JPs lately for achievement points (no interest in PvP/WvW, so points need to come from somewhere). I suspect ANet collects metrics on this sort of thing, and might mistakenly assume I’m doing that because they’re enjoyable. I want to correct that, because I do think this is generally a pretty good game.
JPs aren’t pleasant at all. They’re arguably the worst thing in PvE. It’s less a puzzle than it is a constant fight against a camera which is clearly not designed for the needlessly cramped spaces in which it’s trying to operate (much less with larger characters), obfuscating any helpful references and sapping the fun out of the experience. What should in theory be a fun diversion ends up being incredibly frustrating and painful. I’m genuinely baffled that people claim to like them.
Rant over.
sounds like you just suck at the game, i did all the jumping puzzles and there was only ONE kittene not including the wvw jumping ones, camera was fine, i just went first person mode if i needed to, it was easy as hell, so im assuming you just suck
WOW an MMO with a bad community OMG so unheard of!!!! -_- please get over it, every mmo has a horrible community, the Gaming community in general is completely toxic
maybe we can get a free t-shirt if we pre order HoT ????
could careless about revenant
What would you buy from the gem store if you won a million dollars?
nothing from the gem store, but i’d buy all the legendaries lul
I bet they are saving mounts as a future feature for another expansion, sort of like how when flying was first introduced in WoW, it was such a big deal at the time, i wouldnt be surprised if anet did something similar
Time Marches On is too strong as a minor trait and makes the Chronomancer specialization mandatory.
That, and all 3 GM traits + Illusionary Reversion makes this a superior trait line, which just stops being a choise at this point. This would be a problem….if you were anything other than hilariously wrong.
Signet of inspiration providing swiftness gives mesmers an alternate way of moving about quickly. Additionally, focus swaps provide good swiftness. On top of that, PU combined with the enhanced stealth duration also gives good swiftness duration.
It’s a good trait, but it’s not too strong, and it absolutely doesn’t make chrono mandatory. What a ridiculous assertion, please try to keep your forum spills more within the realm of reason in the future.
Edit: Checked your post history, 100% warrior. Thanks for pretending as if you’re a mesmer concerned about the strength of this trait, but you’re not fooling anyone.
Chill out buddy, way to overreact. Even though I play every profession almost equally, I never pretended to be a ‘Mesmer player concened’. We are all speculating here as we haven’t even playtested the specs yet. I think that one is pretty obvious, kind of sad it has to be strictly stated. Also, check my forum history again, now that you like using that as any sort of (unfounded) argument.
I’m from the ones that think a passive speed increase as a minor trait is a massive buff, for many reasons. And I’m not even taking into account the potential huge slow uptime or clones on shatter, or phantasms not dissapearing on shatter, which is huge, or you know, someone such as Helseth overjoyced when he heard about quickness on shatter. On paper this spec seems a straight up upgrade instead of a choice, which should not be the case, feel free to disagree, but being blistering to me is not the way to go.
I don’t have to state the enormous potential the new F5 has, hopefully. Also, discrediting me becouse I’ve been posting on Warrior forums as of late (those may be 5% or less of the total of my posts), which is not even my most played profession… makes your reaction… questionable at best. I want this game to be balanced more than most, regardless of profession or spec, my entire post history clearly reflects that.
it’s not an upgrade, you dont play mesmer so your opinion has no value whatsoever, I could careless about movement, i have my focus, boon duration signet and inspiration plus blink for movement, with those im able to stay at the front of the pack all the time, it’s a clear choice and i know for a fact i’ll be choosing Time Splitter over movement speed anytime anywhere, it’s a total option, doesnt provide any serious gameplay changes whatsoever
it’s a trait only for unskilled mesmer players nd kids with ADHD
dont get why people are so pumped over time marches on, you have to sacrifice the new f5 skill for a 25% movement boost? that sucks, doesnt change gameplay at all, i just wont be as slow as others, big deal, I dont see the hype whatsoever
I feel the f5 skill is the go to choice compared to the other two, for all situations
TIME SPLITER FTW
SCREW TIME MARCHES ON, it’s only for people with ADHD

Whatever warriors get, we know it will be one of the strongest specs.
and like all warrior builds, will require no skill whatsoever
Also dont use other MMOS as examples because they all have exploits that people use to clear things in a efficient manner.
No.
Generally speaking, Blizz do their best to keep WoW exploit-free and if players find an exploit, they will try to fix it, ASAP.
Also, if people knowingly use exploits (rather than reporting them), they risk getting banned.
Probably, normally, only temporarily, but still.
Blizz have some faults, but they take stuff like this seriously.
I know that is easy to just say, but even their lower level dungeons don’t let you cheese them (until you outlevel them).
For example, mobs don’t reset – you pull them, you fight them, or they will keep chasing you until you run out of the portal!
That may, or may not, be desirable for everyone, but still.
The players acknowledge this about WoW, as well.
I was at the end boss of a dungeon once, as a newish player and I failed to grab a rope to swing off a ship, in time, as I had never done it before.
So, I panicked and jumped down, instead (so I didn’t get burned) and realising that I probably would get back to the deck of the ship in time, I hesitated, debating whether to try to run back, or not.
The other players started raging at me, thinking I was trying to cheat and said “This is WoW. It’s not like other games, you can’t exploit.”.
…and at that point I was killed by some AOE, which surrounded me, even though I was about 50 miles from the boss.
I may not have liked their attitude, as I wasn’t trying to do anything wrong, but it proves a point about not all games being created equal, in this way.
Before anyone says “Go back to WoW.”, to me – I may do at some point, but it does have some issues that I am less impressed by, especially lately.
It’s by no means perfect, either – it’s just that this doesn’t happen to be one of its problems, relatively speaking.
have you seen WoW’s dungeons? there are many exploits on defeating bosses, especially in WoD dungeons now, it’s so easy :/ blizzard could care less about the dungeon community
chronomancer is still the coolest, nothing beats Space and Time, nothing.
i personally dont care about the dungeons, i just want to work on my precursor questline and my specialization
Look at all this controversy and discussion over the name, this is why Jon said that Dragonhunter is more of a high concept than something like a Chronomancer. Chronomancer barely requires thought, it’s a time mage, that’s it.
But Dragonhunter is basically a Witchhunter or aka Demonhunter but something more fitting for Tyria’s lore where most of the major world-affecting threats comes from dragons, hence Dragonhunter.
Witchhunters are usually hell bent on the eradication of witches/mages/spellcasters of any kind, does that mean in all the universes they exist all spellcasters are evil? No! It is just how the witchhunter perceives them. Same applies to demonhunters and demons.
They are zealous in their pursuit. Sometimes to the point of even utilizing the very magic their enemies use in order to bring them down. An example of this is Demonhunters from Diablo series having access to demonic magic themselves, or witchhunters in Elder Scrolls series utilizing conjuration magic to hunt down mages themselves.
So the Dragonhunter is the same way, a fanatical hunter that believes in eradicating all things to do with dragons. You cannot say this is true for every one in Tyria because since Sylvari are dragon minions then that would mean everyone would be killing all Sylvari, but we aren’t. Thus Dragonhunter, like witchhunter etc. has a special meaning in this context.
Requiring the explanation Jon and others, as well as I, have given is why Jon meant this elite specialization name is more subtle, nuanced, and high concept.
Chronomancer = time mage
Druid = nature magicThose require little if any thought.
To understand Dragonhunter =/= anyone who hunts dragons requires more thought than the other two.
Whether you feel like all specialization names should require little or no thought, or enjoy them, is a different sentiment entirely. But there’s a lot basis for why ArenaNet decided on this name.
LMFAO there is no thought when it comes to dragon hunter’s the fact that they have to make up excuses just to claim this name is suitable just so they dont have to cave into pressure and change it means NOTHING, it’s like how people over analyze a book and people come up with different meanings for different things, this is exactly it, over analyzing dragon hunter and convincing yourself and find ways to believe this name is suitable, but in reality, dragon hunter is as generic as ever,
chronomancer – time mage
dragon hunter – dragon hunter, THAT’S IT, no thinking required, stop making excuses and realize this name is kittened and needs to be changed
Yeah chronomancer make’s too much sense, how about ‘’Person with Shield’’
sound’s generic enough to fit in i believe
well being able to control Space and Time is much more powerful in theory than dragon hunting lol so yes name wise it’s much cooler
i’ll be using the wells for sure
Guardians get in depth features on their elite spec.
While mesmers get 2 traits. Rubi also mentioned she does not like mesmer that much.
Not blaming her entirely but our feature lacked professionalism.
i agree, guardian had a real live gameplay shown whereas mesmer was just pre recorded, it was handled very badly and the girl had no interest at all, she looked bored with no care at all, that ticked me off the most, we should have had actual mesmer enthusiast introducing chronomancer, not some girl who could give a kitten about mesmer and is just waiting for the show to end, screw her
also gw2 philosophy of classes are, the most played classes will get the most attention, classes like mesmer will recieve less attention and bugs wont be fixed since not as much people play it, this is a ridiculous way to handle classes and I praise other games that don’t pull that kind of crap on us, people will continue to play those other classes since arenanet doesnt fix anything about mesmer, it’s a vicious cycle that they dont seem to have an regard on breaking, screw arenanet
what a god awful concept of classes on only fixing and buffing classes that people play the most, what kind of dumb developer does that? especially a big one like arena net, so disappointed, Going back to WoW, at least they dont neglect their classes, no matter how much people play it
(edited by Leonhardt.8164)
I personally play female characters mainly because the male animations for running and casting in my opinion looks really bad, my first charaacter was a male but the running looked so bad (human) that i just couldnt continue playing it, i had to role a female human, i only play human and since male humans have awful animation, very stiff, very clunky, I just cant play one, also armor looks alot better on females than males, especially cloth (mesmer is my main)
Honestly, as much as the medium armor classes complain about the excess of longcoats, at least their armors tend to be good looking. I would much prefer an excess of coats over an excess of robes and frills. Guild Wars 1 Mesmers had an incredible selection of armor that encompassed a range of tastes. I would be willing to pay cash for Guild Wars 2 renditions of these: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mesmer_armor.
kitten those armor’s look AWFUL, i would not go anywhere near that garbage looking armor, I personally think all cloth armor look like garbage in guild wars, people use the excuse ‘’well it’s cloth’’ so what? WoW has some of the best looking cloth set’s, some of the best looking set’s are cloth, so don’t use that excuse that it’s cloth so it cant look as cool, it really can, WoW did it, why cant gw2 ? jesus
A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.
Thanks,
Jon
let’s sum this up, doesnt matter how much excuses you put to claim dragon hunter is a suitable name, EVERYONE is a dragon hunter,, we’ve ALL killed zhaitan, thus we are all DRAGON HUNTER’S it’s extremely generic and nothing creative whatsoever, please change the stupid name
i hope they change the name, i have hope that the traps wont be as generic as people think, but idk, i only pay mesmer
i personally think it looks like garbage, The Anomaly FTW
Yes, I like clone death Mesmer. As I mentioned, I’m North of 40 and my left hand is partially crippled. I dislike the trend of making classes more “skill based.” Let’s be honest, “skill based,” in this context means “better internet connection and reaction speed.”
Let’s be even more honest. I’m in the demographic that has the most money to spend on this game. ANET has made it abundantly clear that profit is a primary motive.
I like my Altruistic Heal/Retaliation Guardians. More important, I can succeed with them. My point is that making a class harder to play for the sake of making it feel more elite is stupid in the long run.
This is why the PvP “community” doesn’t grow. Other than trash power ranger… there isn’t a real entry point for new people.
I vividly remember on Thief… I met a brand new guardian in Queensdale. She was losing badly to a bandit. I rezzed her and killed the bandit, then talked to her about some of the guardian options for blocking and retaliation.
Her response? “Screw this, it’s not fun.” Let that be a lesson to you ANET.
she shouldnt be playing anyways, if she cant kill a mob as a guardian, than she shouldn’t be playing this game, good riddance, like jesus christ my first character was a mesmer and i didnt have that much trouble at all, we dont need anymore dumb kittenes in this game like her, bet this happens in all other mmo’s that shes tried, im so shocked on how much a noob can be a noob, even i wasnt that bad -_-

Which would win out?
Wall of Reflection.
good luck with feedback and temporal curtain
Paragon.
Spear-using ranged sustained DPS and support, using burning attacks and chants (shouts that pulse) and refrains (effects that trigger when a boon ends/is removed) to help the party from back/middle line.
wtf? spear is only for underwater combat, you want them to make a whole new weapon along with a specialization? that’s stupid, think of an actual non watertype weapon
If you like this generic kitten name you should go apply to work for ANET. I’m sure you’d fare well.
Because zealot, paragon, justicar, etc. aren’t generic and are totally original names for a holy warrior?
at least those names make more sense to suit the power than ’’dragonhunter’’ like wtf his powers are focused on wielding the light not dragons, it’s stupid and makes no sense
so far chronomancy is still the coolest/best specialization, SPACE AND TIME FTW
as for the name "Dragon Hunter’’ I personally dont understand why, they keep saying how the guardian is wielding the ’’Light’’ over and over and how he mastered the powers of the Light, than why would you call it ’’Dragon’’ hunter, dragon’s have nothing to do with the light, it should be named "Arch Angel, Paladin’’
something more divine
At least it’s not another instance of abusing “mancer”. Does anyone involved in fantasy even know what the word means..
It come from the greek manteĆa which mean divination. A mancer is a practitioner of a specific type of divination.
Exactly. So what do the Pyromancer, Hydromancer, Aeromancer, Geomancer, Necromancer and Chronomancer in GW2 have anything to do with prediciting the future?
It’s just a cheesy word that sounds cool and keeps being misused in fantasy settings.
Divination – the practice of attempting to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means.
notice the second part of the definition to DISCOVER HIDDEN KNOWLEGE by occult or SUPERNATURAL means, idiot, it doesnt just mean to predict the future, which btw is very suitable for chronomancy which is specifically about TIME and SPACE, what do magic wielders strive for? to gain as much knowledge about their magic as possible, throgh various ways, it’s perfect for fantasy game, it’s perfect to use to describe different kinds of people that pursuit knowledge for what the wielder would consider ‘’divine power’’
next time look up the word so you wouldnt sound like such an idiot lmfao

Anet can’t do this!?
They wouldn’t really do this?Charge us for an expansion pack that will degrade our characters.
Thats just screaming “find another game”
Exacly what i’m going to do if that plays out.And it won’t. If you took a few minutes to read the blog you would know that wasn’t the case. This whole thread is people being lazy and paranoid and blowing things out of proportion.
yeah really everyone on this threat is kittened, i cant believe this is something to complain about jesus christ you people should just quit and play another game, please leave like holy crap, it’s a free game what more do you want? greedy pieces of kittens
What got me hooked to mesmer (which is my first and only character to 80) is the whole clone/phantasm aspect, it’s so unique, something i’ve never seen before in an mmo, closest was Monk’s in WoW, but barely, i needed more, mesmer was my answer, i forever will play my mesmer till the end, i refuse to play any other class
you dont need any guides for leveling a mesmer, My first and only character ive leveled to 80 was a mesmer and i’ve had no problem at all getting through content, it was easy, infact i felt op
people tell me it’s because since i havent played the other classes yet that i wouldnt know what it feels like to level an easier class, they considered me lucky
Do you like the theme (pink, butterflies, mind/time/space bending mischief)? Yes => roll it.
If you don’t love the theme, you’ll probably be better off rolling something else.
it’s more purple than pink
Why do you guys want into beta so much? What do you plan to do with it? Will you actually test things and give feedback? Or is this you wanting to get into new content first? Some badge of honor? I honestly don’t get it. I have done many betas before and it’s honestly just unpaid testing and you lose all the fun of getting into the new content when it goes live.
I believe that most are so starved for new content that they will do everything, even for the beta.
Let’s make it clear, ANet doesn’t run this for some sort of greater feedback, not on random people drops. It’s a pure marketing and a hook for playerbase.
Not a new thing, really. PTRs are succcesfully being run by Blizzard in World of Warcraft every expansion or major patch. Yes, player involvement is needed there, but mostly for balancing classes. Most will join up to see future content, even try it few times. It’s better than to sit in official game with nothing to do, waiting, amrite?
i’m an 8 year WoW veteran and PTR’s in WoW are only for Patches of the game, when it comes to a new expansion, PTR is not available, they send out invites for beta testing just like everyone else
PTR is only for testing patches not expansions
New main hand weapon for sure.
Alacricy looks interesting, and hte new f5 shatter looks awesome. And I’m very happy about getting shields.
But we are in such terribly desperate need of a new main hand that I would forgo all of the above for one.Yes I share this sentiment – I love all the info about the elite spec and am looking forward to play with it.
I would however have preferred a new main hand weapon instead – such as a MainHand Focus.
no mainhand focus is a stupid idea, if that was the other option than im glad they went with shield (which i hate) mainhand focus is so stupid i caan barey wrap my head around it
yes you should activate f5 when you have low health and are about to die, but beware you will respawn with little health so you could easily be bought back down again, be careful
and by that I mean the nickle and diming grindy feel whenever you want to change your character’s appearance or have more than character 5 slots or more bank slots or….etc. Like I paid 50+ USD $ for it when it originally came out. Played since day 1. I’ve got like two, TWO pieces of cosmetics I’ve unlocked (like the special ones you can apply for free) . Seriously? There are f2p games with more cosmetic options for less time spent.
Sure there are random loot crap unlocks. I’m talking about looks you’d actually want on your character. I know the token thingys arent too hard to grind but they’re still a grind. for a paid model I should be able to change my appearance on a whim.
I remember when WoW added transmutation, it had a gold cost. Haven’t played wow in while, but I know I was paying a monthly fee for out and still had to pay to transmute (and most of their armors were simply pallet swaps, not fully modeled like in gw2)
Horrible example, im an 8 year WoW veteran and the transmutation costs in WoW are 30gold a piece at the most, it barely makes a dent in your wallet, that’s equivalent to spending around 30 silver in gw2 to transmute, we would all rather be paying 30 silver than the transmute charges system,
you can make thousands and thousands of gold in WoW extremely easily, 100 gold is like 1 gold in gw2, transmutation in WoW is basically free
you say boss Chronomancer … I say “Time Lord” …
The Doctor always takes charge/command :-p
Negative tons of points to those who don’t get the references … you just lost at the game of life … sorry :-p
what if you think dr who sucks ?
I really wish the Wall of the Mists was based of a more elegant looking shield. I don’t want spikes and a basic looking shield just because it’s purple and misty
I’ve had the same problem with whisperblade. I wish they had based those on bonetti’s rapier or something.
wtf lol whisperblade is perfect, simple yet flashy, its the perfect mesmer weapon, if you arent using any of the ecto weapons, than you are seriously playing mesmer wrong, i dont respect any mesmer who arent using those weapons, its the only weapons that fit a mesmer, anything else is bad and ugly
Wall of the Mists is the only good mesmer shield, all other shields are ugly or not mesmerizing enough, if you arent rocking wall of the mists, youre doing it wrong
awesome, I only play mesmer and having a Chronomancer is what i wanted! who doesnt want to control time and space ? this just makes me love my mesmer more, I am not a fan of the shield, but i do like the effects and skills, so whatever, CHRONOMANCER FTW!!!! it’s a good day to be a mesmer
i personally hate having a shield, this is a huge blow to my mesmer which i love so much, i cat believe my ’’elite’’ skill is going to involve a stupid shield, so extremely disappointed, BUT if the skill revolves around chronomancy, than that’s a different story
i love silverwates so ill be grinding for this tomorrow
I’m in a large guild but I agree to this idea, I would love a large lively guild alliance chat and be able to speak to the other 5 guilds
