Also, this topic deserves a first page so I kinda…bumped it a bit. If…if that’s okay.

If people can play their gadget/pistol builds and look good, why can’t I play my kit build and look good? Am I not allowed cuz trading looks for enjoyment? How would you feel if it was the other way around and only kits got the cool effects? I get a legendary I wanna feel legendary. Why can any other profession look good despite of the build they play and Engineers have to use only certain if they wanna endgame (look good whenever).

Oh golly, does that mean I can apply…again? How lucky must I be. Expect hearing from me soon.

As far as I’m aware, you still get the win bonus so…it’s s win-win situation.

We joined into a society because we want to eliminate violent behaviour against anyone. Fiction is there to suplement that need or desire to whack someone on the head because he stole your candy. For that, we invented judical branch, that justfully resolves any issues among us (disclaimer: upper thoughts may vary from country to country and planet as a whole. For any issues you might have unresolved, contact your nearest court of law, justice served may vary).

For growing thick skin, I suggest a brilliant documentary, The Act Of Killing.

You are correct again. I’d go even further and say that playing games to unwind all that extra rage is benefiting for an individual. And again, acts themselves are fictional but the notion of doing them resides in your mind.

We pretty much agree on the other points as well

Now to add something for the OP as well, try to look at a story in gw2 as you would a movie in cinema and your character as the main (or side xD) character. They may not do what you’d like them too but they do anyway. It may be difficult to integrate because of the factors we might not be aware of.

Here is where I agree with you, it is an act of fiction to kill a mass murdering person in-game. What I am saying, though, is, that the very emotions that drive such an act of fiction are real. You willfully kill him because of your personal preference (rewards you get, your morality prevails, because it’s just a fictional character that was made to kill). They are real emotions of violence but I’m not saying you’d express them in real life because you have certain boundaries (this person is a subject who feels the same as I do – has something in common with you that makes it harder for justification of, as said, act of violence).

People who cannot distinguish between video games and actual reality need help, and I almost think the people who claim others can’t distinguish the two or separate fiction and reality need help too.

Here are expressed real emotions in a fictional space. However, when he thinks about it, his reason prevails.

Maybe you ever killed a bug in real life and your morality just doesn’t work for your phobias or personal preferences. This may not be a good example but…it’s very relative, this morality and tradition.
And to conclude, what is real is defined by your sensations, by your reason and acts of any kind, fiction or non-fiction create real responses in your real consciousness, and though you identify it as something that’s not in your morality spectrum, your reason, it’s still there – real.

What I was trying to say is, that if you think, that hitting someone in the face is fun in-game, it may be your deep desire and you just couldn’t express it in real life because there is law to obey. Any character you play and how you play it says all about your personality and you can deny it countless times. In that sentiment, it is more real than the reality, because in reality, you wouldn’t do it, but you sure would like to try it. Because it’s the real you.
It’s still fiction, don’t get me wrong, but hiding behind that term to deny doing something (as some here were saying, not you), doesn’t really click.

Also, you wouldn’t get thrown into a prison if you wanted to impose martial law. The body in which hands such jurisdiction is would kindly appoint you to the nearest exit. If you have such jurisdiction, you would face court first, had it been against the law.

I didn’t read this whole thread so this has probably already been brought up but I gotta ask, how awesome must your life be that something like this annoys you? a few thousand years ago people worried about getting eaten by a saber tooth cat, or finding food. A few hundred years ago people worried about dying from the plague or giving birth to 9 kid sbut only 2 surviving. Our grandparents had World Wars to worry about. But some of you worry because a fictional character isn’t sensitive to the death of an evil fictional character. You must have the most problem free life ever. Good on you.

You see, in my opinion, game is the real thing, as real as this computer and that tree, because it was made from real and it incorporates real values and morals, emotions, norms…you name it.
Your words may not hurt Scarlet, but your words may hurt you, if you cannot express your real values, morals etc. (see below on how to counter dis)
Games affect us because they are real, at least in a metaphorical way.

Onto game, I have no problem with ArenaNet trying to tell their own story, I have my own story of the character that I play and that way, I can express myself.

First of all, my standing is that he who put Scarlet in a state in which she couldn’t comprehend her actions is responsible for everything she did.

Second of all, games reflect our world completely and I see no reason why we should separate them.

Third of all, the options were, I assume, there to cater those, and may I say the are a lot of em judging from past forum posts, who disliked her. That excludes me, but it’s not something I’d burden myself with. I make my own story for RP purposes and I just enjoy the writting arenanet does.

I bought GW2 on release, grinded to 80, and tried out the endgame. And while the levelling was fun, the game featured no endgame PvE, exotic gear that you have to grind for hours for tiny stat boosts, and a completely broken dungeon system. The PvP itself was so unbalanced as to not be any fun, along with no gear to be earned in structured PvP whatsoever. Have they added ANYTHING worth hitting level 80 in the year and a half?

To get into the mix myself, I think there is one: presence of levels. I’d be much better if we could explore the world without the need of having a high enough level (since it’s already easy to get to cap anyway).

You can get exotic gear in a day by buying it, however, that’s not the point of the game. You can do any dungeon with green gear (excluding high level Fractals).

Endgame in Gw2 is, well, getting the right, cool look for your character. And then there’s Fractals, WvW and some world bosses. There is no gear that you absolutely need to progress.

That said, they added 3 maps to PvP (same mechanics), played with balancing a bit (nerfed thieves and elementalists), some world bosses added, but it’s pretty much the same game.

If you want stats and raids this is not the game for you. I play it and enjoy it every day, I roleplay and after a year and a half, I still have things to do.

Hello, I’ve been trying to find this information everywhere but couldn’t:

Is there any story behind these weapons (phantasm weapons; mesmer phantasms have it; you can make them in the Mystic Forge and wield them yourself)?
What material does it consist of; how can my asura pick it up and wield it; where would one find this weapon (can you actually find it or get it from a Djinn in a box).

The weapon that interests me the most is Wall of the Mists. Does it have to do anything with the Mists? As far as I know, phantasms are just projections with a little bit of denial magic. How can then a person not versed in that magic get it? Or is it just the will and belief of the person that makes the shield real?

Why would a mesmer then wield such a weapon? Oh, wait, to decieve maybe. I got this one I think.

If anyone has any more info on these Mysterious weapons, I’d like to know,

The Mad Moon is back…and it’s more overpriced than ever. TP is currently the cheaper version. Materials might be droppable later…or already are and I’m not aware of it, but with all the words on these forums, they aren’t.

Haven’t seen chainsaw greatsword.

While I understand a point about returning achievements and titles and books and other cool things, I couldn’t care less about achievement points.
So what if someone has more than me, if I skip a release of some content, I skip it…unless it has some cool title. Then I turn off the phone and roll down the curtains. But never for achievement points.
Hope they bring ‘em back next year for those who couldn’t get them. Or maybe a new title, huh, huh? No?

In return, Consortium buys them even more kitten costumes and they cannot refuse. They finance that with the money they’ve gotten. Soon enough, they enslave the whole of Tyria. But now you ask me, “Why?”. To make the whole continent a vacation resort.

Southsun Islands as tax havens. Later on it’s shown that it was an evil plan of “The Bubble Dragon” and Consortium. For what purpose, we can only imagine…

It’s a D/D build, probably the same PopeUrban was talking about, with heavy condition damage and a lot of evades. You can also try the same build with a Shortbow for some fun (#3, dodge heal, roll for initiative, shadowstep). Have fun.

Level 80 exotic Pearl staves seem small enough. Hope it helps.
