I can’t run gw2.exe on my PC after the last (launcher) update with the error message “This app can’t be run on your pc”. I am playing on a surface pro. Is there a fix for this?

Searching the forums doesnt return any results, google does but the restructuring of the forum prevents me to find these topics

what is even worse about this ability: it does indeed count as a whirl finisher, but it only finishes once in the whole duration. So a single bolt is fired. Other whirl finishers (e.g. warrior axe) finish multiple times and thus create multiple bolt…

This bug is still there, axe 5 offhand does not trigger multiple projectiles (which it should) when finishing in a combo field e.g. fire or ice. Warrior or other classes whirl finisher do so, however

alright, the patch completly broke this for ranger. Not seeing any bolts anymore, not with any weapon skin.

Additionally, I tried over 50 times to get a neutral moa to be hit by fire bolts.
Torch 5 → Axe 5. as close to the moa as possible. Not a single bolt was generated or landed on it

Hey,

usually, whirl finishers in the fashion of whirling axes etc. finish multiple times (e.g. warrior axe 5, phantasmal warden). However, the ranger offhand skill 5 only finishes once and this makes in pretty useless as a combo finisher.

I tested it with multiple opponents in the field, but still only a single bolt.

Edit: this seems to be a problem with the majory axe skin. Generic axes do create these bolts, with the skin you only see axes flying and not the bolts.

without traits:
10% damage increase in 30% of cases would be a 3% damage increase overall (okay).

with traits:
10% damage increase in 70% of cases would be a 7% damage increase overall (pretty good).

Lets assume you get in 1 attack every second and the internal cooldown is 10 seconds. Then one out of ten attacks gets the boost of 10%. That’s about 1% damage increase (crap)

This also means you not need to trait it to get the same damage. Even if it activates more than twice as often, this will not matter since it has an interal CD of 10 seconds.

tl;dr:
if you can maintain more than 1 stack of vulnerability on a target, you are more useful than the frost spirit aura. Traiting increased proc chance for spirits is useless for Frost Spirit.

I am having the same issue and this is mainly happening in WvW.

I tried -repair and deleted the gw2.dat. Both did not resolve the issue.

I also tried running the program as administrator and/or assigned it a high priority. Both did not change anything.

I think the magic lies somewhere in here:

Something about some animations or lightning effect does not work
LightningSetActionPoints: destination action point ‘fxwristr’

Also: the game is misising some particle effects: "Couldn’t find projectile effect for skill ‘Aw3PF.xcnwE’

The funny thing is, the game keeps on running but the error is there in the background. After a while the game crashes by freezing a little bit later though.

So here is my build, which I have been using for the last 4 months.

PU Shatter

The general idea is a shatter spec that draws its defense from prismatic understanding (PU, Chaos XII), about 1700 toughness, sword mainhand, sword offhand and disortion.

This build does not have deceptive evasion, which it does not necessarily need: Sword/Sword generates clonse extremely fast due to 40% reduced cooldowns in clone generation skills (Dueling IV and Illusion 15pt minor).

Sigils of Battle on each weapon, Shattered Strength (Illusion 25pt minor), Bountiful Interruption (Chaos VIII) are sources of might stacks. These stacks will last quite long since you have 30% boon duration from 30 points in Chaos and additional 15% from Traveler’s Runes. Usually, you will not have less than 10 stacks of might and can easily exceed 20 stacks if you time your crowd control spells and interupt your foes.

Since we get about 650 condition damage from traits alone, I did not want to let those get to waste. With the condition duration buff food (pizza) and around 10 might stacks, you are now capable of dealing a decent amount of condition damage. This is especially useful with Debilitating Dissipation (Chaos V, conditions on clone death), since it punishes enemies who try to kill your clones. Additionally, you can now use Cry of Frustation (F2 Shatter) quite nicely. Although the confusion is only 4 seconds and can be cleansed quite easily, a full shatter results in 8 stacks of confusion which deal between 1000 and 2000 damage per skill use with some might stacks. This is really nice for some skill spammers like thiefs or d/d necros trying to mow you away.

This build profits greatly from WvW Ranks. I rely on 5 stacks of Applied Fortitude (250 Vit) to boost my health pool. Therefore, I do not have any vitality on my gear or from traits. The additional 100 power and condition damage are a welcome bonus and go nicely with the rest of the setup.

An alternative setup is to swap 10 points from Dueling to Domination to get Mental Torment (Domination I) for additional 20% Mind Wrack (F1 Shatter) damage or to Inspiration to get Mender’s Purity (Inspiriation IV) for condition removal on heal. With the upcoming nerf to Critical Infusion (Dueling 5 pts minor), it might also be viable to get Vigorous Revelation (Inspiration III), which will also help your allies as well as yourself.

For most encounters you can use Shatter F1 and the damage from Phantasms to kill them. If your F1 is on cooldown and you get beaten, stealth, create clones and reappear with a shatter.

The only exception here is when you are facing thieves, most notably condition thiefs with lots of stealth uptime. Then you do not shatter your phantasms and keep them alive and have them dealing damage once the thief reappers. It’s very cheesy and similar to using a phantasm PU spec but it gets the job done.

This setup is also quite nice when running in a zerg or small group. With Null Field, Veil and Mass Invisibility you can support the zerg. If your clones get killed shortly after summoning them: you are still contributing due to Debilitating Dissipation (Chaos V) and your interruptes from greatsword 5, sword offhand 4 and Diversion (Shatter F2).

Any plans for account wide WXP?

There are only two groups of people who don’t see the problem: Anet devs (who don’t play wvw) and people who just play one toon (generally warrior/guardian).

Anyone who plays more than one toon knows that char bound wvw totally sucks, and sucks more the more ranks you clock up on alts or your main. Wexp liquid drops are a joke if they are meant to be helping alts- as you can use them on the toon that dropped them, so they don’t help at all.

People saying it will make upscaled too strong don’t know how the upscaling works (and they could easily code it so the +250 vit points don’t scale).

I’d like to switch toons – like when I notice we are short on necros, or eles, but at the moment I am heavily penalised for doing so which discourages me from doing so, hence restricting my enjoyment of the game.

I think we’re all wasting our breath here though, as it’s quite clear that wvw is lowest priority for the devs in the game and account bound wexp would be even lower downt the list than that.

And finally, why the hell can’t we re arrange our rank points in the same way as we can trait points??

I’m as mesmer and I’m fine with character bound WXP. My ranks represents the time and effort I put into that particular character (which I care about) and not just my “account”, which I do not care about.

Stealth and Speed Hacks in WvWvW

So I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here:

Something strange has happened to me about two days ago. I was fighting a bunch of players near SN. I (Mesmer) got downed and hit one of the Sentries nearby in hope the opposing players would kill it and rally me.

Long story short, I was certain that the plan executed perfectly. I rallied and got away. Then in I noticed: I rallied with full HP at the exact second I would have been stomped. Thought I was ressed by the rally, but that would not have gotten me on my feet with 100% HP.

Would a banner rez get me up with 100% Health?

Can you also provide a ranking that divides the total number of war points achieved per tick by the number of players playing WvW right at that tick (as in people that are in all WvW maps simultaneously) and use this metric at the end of the week as basis for assigning league points?

During peak hours (prime time) this metric would be very similiar between all servers if the population is similar in that time. But it would reduce the impact of servers that have a strong night coverage vs. servers that do not (see toy example in attachment)

In DAoC there was a feature for guild realm points. You had the overall RP per week that guild made and a separate statistic that told the RP per week per person in that guild.

I’m all in favor of having as many metrics as possible as it will reduce the impact of “the one” metric we have right now (aka ranking via war points at the end of the week)

Maximised Hybrid Phantasm Build [Roaming]

I like your build and especially applaud you for using medium levels of condition damage. Been running a similiar build and with some might stacks you easliy see those 100 bleed ticks. Also: Condition duration is very nice especially on those cripple/immobilize skills.

The only thing I did different in traits was: pistol mastery in favor of clones on dodge. I like to keep my phantasms up as much as possible and I do not like deceptive evasion because they replace existing phantasms (if you have three). Additionally, if someone kills my phantasms, I can get those duelists up and running faster.

The utility skills are a little bit different for me, I’m using portal and null field for various reasons and they work great with the build.

Hope the build is still viable after today’s patch :-)

What skills can you combine to escape? Ima blow your mind here. Remember that weapon that you say sucks? The focus? What if I told you that a traited focus hardcounters a longbow warrior.

That, or dodge. Intelligent use of a major game mechanic works too.

It irritates me when I see incompetent players blaming the fact that they are bad on game mechanics instead of realizing it for what it is.

Let me be absolutely blunt Ash: You are a bad player. You understand game mechanics poorly. You seem to be unable to figure out obvious counters or relations between skills and how to use them. It is entirely possible for you to stop being bad and learn to be a good player, but you first have to recognize that you are bad and stop blaming your losses on game mechanics.

The skill that is not only 25 second cooldown but also needs 20 points into Inspiration. Not really the best counter for it. Not as if they could just use Rush to go past it, or even just strife left or right and boom it is no longer a threat.

Great counter that is. They could savage leap past it and then use the Longbow then all of threat of the Warden is lost. Who really gets hit by all the hits anyway?

It also irritates me when very arrogant people see what they want to see. You can continue read what they like – where have i blamed ANYTHING on the game? You seem to think that i am bad for thinking a different way to you – childish.

Continue to think that the class is fine. My Engineer requires ONE kit and 10 trait points and its faster than a Mesmer. From Point A to point B Mesmer is very slow. THAT is what i am saying.

I have no issues catching Mesmers on My Engineer. I have no issues catching them on my Ele, of course killing them on ele is another thing. SO you going on about how i dont know anything is just well sad.

I do perfectly fine in the game thanks, i have no issues killing people – catching some of them is another matter – try catching a Warrior that spams all the movement skills and then uses Warhorn for the swiftness. Unless you get lucky with a Pistol shot its going to be VERY hard.

So as i said, continue to think you are the best thing that has ever touched the Mesmer class. Simply because someone doesnt agree with you doesnt mean they are wrong or they are bad. So maybe get off your high horse once in a while…

I have no problem chasing and shutting down a warrior. It can take a bit of time to wear some of the more durable ones down at times, but they all go down eventually. So if it’s possible for me to do it using whats available to the mesmer class right now, what explanation do you have for your failure? Is the problem really the class?

P.S. I don’t use pistol.

If you catch that warrior as a mesmer then that same warrior is bad. You have no way of catching a decent warrior who is not brain-afk.

Hey folks,

The addition of the bonus WXP for laurels/badges is simply intended to give WvW players an additional option they can spend their laurels/badges on, it is not intended to fix any issues with alts and WxP.

We’re aware of, and actively discussing the amount of progression we’ve added through WxP and the difficulty for playing multiple characters as a result. When we make changes to help address alts/WxP rank, we’ll make sure to specifically call out the change is to help address that issue.

Thank you Colin for a response on this issue. It was assumed or interpreted that this is why they were added, when all it did was increase the disparity between alts and mains, if the price of them was worth it (it is hard to get the right price for this, as too cheap is gonna create P2W cries, too expensive and no-one will buy them). Altoholics don’t have enough laurels to gear them up in ascended trinkets.

This boils down to character based wxp ranking.
Your team states that Wxp ranks were by character to allow different roles for different classes, for that have to worked you would have needed certain lines to lock out others or only have a finite amount of points to spend, because right now you can be a master of all. After implementation of Wxp you can’t go back because of how ‘good’ we have it. The only option we have left, which has been stated previously is Wxp rank be account bound, but the stat distribution character bound. The account-bound rank would be the aggregated Wxp earned. Is there a technical limitation which has stopped you from doing this?

The pushback from you guys is that just because your experienced in WvW with x class doesn’t mean your experienced with y class. But as ranks are hidden from teammates its not used as a gauge of experience, but instead used as buffs/abilities for time spent in wvw with said character.

tl;dr Thanks for response Colin, is the reason for not having implemented account based wxp a technical limitation? As i can’t think of a reason to not do it that way. If there is one, enlighten us Anet

Accountbound world ranks are bad. You are effectively leveling your account and not your representation in game (i.e. your character). I hope they never ever introduce account bound ranks.

Is there anyone (outside of the WvW dev team) that legitimately feels that WvW rank shouldn’t be account bound, with character-bound traits? I came here expecting to see a logical thought-out argument (probably written by someone on the WvW dev team) in favor of an unpopular position. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed, and I blame my sleepiness in this regard.

I’ll go one step further and say they should decouple WvW traits from WvW ranks entirely and rework/balance them around a set budget that everyone has in common regardless of rank. Then WvW rank would provide prestige alone: titles, improved aesthetics, exclusive skins, etc.

Making WvW rank account bound would probably mitigate my growing distaste for the game mode, but in my sleep-deprived state I can’t think of the word that would adequately describe my feelings towards WvW if traits were decoupled from rank.

I would absolutely hate account bound ranks. Totally invalidates my character’s progression and would make my characters just a tool to level up my account. I feel more represented in game by my character and less by my account. Same reason I don’t play sPvP: no character progression outside from improved skill in playing that character

The new system is awesome. Fighting against a server you should not be able to hold up and still managing is pretty cool and gives you a “underdog” feeling.
Some improvements to the outmanned buff should be done though, so the underdog can fight tooth and claw on a more equal footing.

I like the idea of a stat boost. Gives the whole mechanic more impact on your server and might encourage more people to fight over these points, not just the WXP farmers.

We’ll see how it turns out. Hope a lot of people are “wrong” and the devs are “right” on this one.

But its never that clear cut, now is it? Certainly isn’t for you because you don’t want to let anyone play the game in the way they want to unless its the way you want them to play the game.

“Please give us the dev time and let sPvP get life support dev focus for once…” ~ Some people like sPvP and would rather you not abuse it anymore than it already has been.

1. Siege Wars refers to Open field Siege creep.
2. No one has stated they want the bonuses..stop lying
3. sPvP is dead. They are not the majority. WvW far outnumbers sPvP and infact i’m willing to bet that 1 week of WvW players far outnumbers months of sPvP players. You give dev time to what the majority of your players play not cling to some dead game mode literally the tiniest fraction of your player base plays.

The majority has spoken and you really need to realize it.

I want the orb buffs. There, your argument is shattered.

They should have been account bound from the start. Character bound means people will play one class the most, so they’ll get bored faster and leave the game faster.

Anet really need to focus on fixing and improving WvW if they want those players to stay. They’ve probably already driven off 40% of WvW players by ignoring our complaints and suggestions for over a year now!

WvW population is almost at the same height as game launch and growing.
Source . State where you got your “40%” and then continue.

Apart from that: character progression was requested multiple times and we got it. I highly dislike the idea of having account levels as this invalidates my characters progression and make the characters just some tool to level accounts.

In DAoC we had character progression with RvR ranks and points. Did it discourage players from creating alts? Probanbly not. Where people who sticked to one character favoured? Yes and thats how many people liked it. You could still compete with people who played a lot (and thus had more points to spend on stats/abilities) if you sticked to one character.

My suggestions, however, would be: At least tripple the amount if WXP earned from player kills and double that amount again if you are defending a structure like a camp/keep/tower. Might not be the best reward to encourage defending, but if you manage to kill a bunch of attackers while defending, you will earn a lot of points (rightfully so).

During beta, Charrs felt really “clunky”, and Asuras felt swift, which fit the mesmer class better in my opinion. Now I have the impression that the animatiosn are smoother for Charrs(?),
I would love to change my character to a charr, but the option is not there (note: releveling is not an option).

Why can’t you people not just wait a few weeks, see how it feels and then complain about everything?

I, for once am really sick of all these “Leagues will kill WvW”, “My guild is quitting WvW”, “Devon sucks” etc. posts because they do not lead to anything. Same goes for all the rant about bloodlust. Nothing like that is in play at the moment, and none has even tried it so far. Give it a shot and the devs time to implement their changes.

Since this post is lacking something constructive to the topic: After season 1 ends, you could open up free transfers (possibly also with guilds?) to servers in lower leages/at the bottom of the respective leagues and encourage players to go there by giving them a (personal) reward boost of some sort?
