The length is great, IMO.
People don’t realize that people who start the game today can go through original story, season 2, and the HoT story. Imagine how much story people will have to play through if they start in 2 years after all of the living world releases, the next xpac, etc.
You’re probably safe to max out gliding at this point.
Plot twist: Pezz isn’t done playing. He is just expressing his feedback dramatically.
Your topic title is spoiler itself….think
It is.
I’m actually perfectly fine with raids being locked behind masteries.
Ley line gliding from gliders, stealth detection from Nuhock, adrenaline shrooms from Itzel and at least exalted assistence from the Exalted line should be a requirement for raids. Otherwise most masteries would be pointless. Map completions don’t even require you to have them with all the portaling mesmers and portal to a friend.
I would be very happy if the masteries I worked for were useful and mandatory in the end game content. That is pretty much the same kitten thing as a gear grind but with a different name. If this happens Gw2 wont be different than any other MMO out there with a gear treadmill.
How is that anything similar to gear treadmill?
Masteries are account bound, you only have to do it once and they are available for all of your characters permanently.
Also the term treadmill you used, do you know why its being called that or you have you just read it somewhere and you tought ‘oh, this sounds cool, I’ll use it’.
Its refered to treadmill because it constantly moves forward, leaving the old gear useless and devauled. Which isn’t happening with the masteries.
Okay so now that you have new understanding.
Please explain to me how do you see masteries as a gear treadmill.
P.S. Correct term you wanted to use is Content Gating.
When you are on a treadmill what are you doing? Making progress towards something. If you stop the treadmill do you regain what you lost? No. But you cant make anymore progress. Same thing goes with the mastery system. If I stop lvling my masteries I wont be able to make progress in the raids…Seems like a treadmill to me.
Welcome to MMO.
They should know it is danger and not to step on it from the indication that is there. It’s more than enough as is.
The event doesn’t need any changes.
Too late, they already confirmed that reaids are locked behind masteries. That’s the reason they gave us why raids are released after HoT. To give everyone some time to level masteries.
Thats such bull kitten. I dont want artificial difficulty or to have to grind out masteries. I dont find it fun or rewarding to get your masteries up. I understand maybe gliding or mushroom jumping but adding something like the poison mastery would be a kitten off.
Raids should be a test of skill not a test of how many hours you spent grinding out your masteries.
PS- When I say grind its subjective to what I personally think grind is. You might not find getting your masteries up a grind.
Sounds like you just need to man up. Raids are the hardcore MMO content we asked for, which includes putting in hard work just to be able to do them. This includes ascended gear and masteries, and having these things allows hardcore players to feel accomplished and proud.
Clearing the (currently) hardest raid with the best gear/masteries and all of that hard work behind you? That’s what hardcore MMOing is all about.
No, it’s not.
You need to remember that someone playing through from the start will play through the core story, living world season 2, the HoT story, and any living world and future expansion pack stories in the future.
The game, unlike other MMOs, will have today’s content still playable 2 expansions from now.
I use plenty of melee and don’t seem to understand the issue here.
It’s not tank and spank. That’s a good thing.
The title implies Eir’s fate, not Garm’s.
Simmer down, cowboy. Yeehaw.
That title implies nothing about Eir. and even if it did, theres already half a dozen threads on the HoT forum that in the title that just blunt, flat out say “[Spoilers] Eir is dead.”, but I haven’t seen you in there flaming them.
“It’s like the wild west out here, but they’re not just rustling cows anymore.”
-Scott Hunter
You post a spoiler warning but heavily imply the spoiler in the title anyway…
Where in my title does it say “Garm is dead.” any idiot jumping to conclusions will think hes dead, which could be a possibility, but there could simply be a plot point in HoT regarding Garm. From that title’s point of view, anything could’ve happened to him. He could have a new master, he could have lived, and gotten lost, died, been captured by Mordremoth, all manor of things, and none of those are expressed in the title.
The thread has to have a title. I could simply make the title “[SPOILERS] Garm” if it would make your day any better, but it still implies something is up in the air regarding Garm in HoT, therefore is spoilers in your opinion.

I disagree on the updrafts. I personally think that they’re fine and that further development time should not be wasted on them.
A lot of people think that we’re fighting Zhaitan’s body when it’s really just the representation of his mind – this was done so we could actually have good fight mechanics from a game design perspective. It doesn’t leave me upset at all, but wouldn’t be saddened to see a visual upgrade if enough people were.
A lot of people here have never experienced a new expansion before.
A lot of people like to create drama just for the sake of doing so.
A lot of people feel the game is too hard because they refuse to change traits or utilities for certain situations.
Stuff like that.
Leave it as it is. Will make defeating it that much more satisfying.
[Spoiler] So when you first saw the end boss for HoT...

I didn’t say anything. I just laughed. Then I couldn’t take the game seriously anymore.
Really, this dark atmosphere of death and foreboding… all caused by fat sam? Please…
Plot twist: This guy just wants his chance to be dramatic.
You post a spoiler warning but heavily imply the spoiler in the title anyway…
There’s no need for a nerf here, as others have said.
All you have to do is focus them as soon as you see them. They go down quick.
I’ve been through a few expansion launches for MMOs, and so far this one seems to out-value the others.
It’s worth it IMO.
This thread has turned into the OP arguing with any rational response.
Yes, the main point of gated content is to slow people down.
But it allows character progression in the fact that you feel accomplished when you do the work, get rewarded and step into new content.
Stop being dramatic. lol
They are soloable. Try adjusting your gear/build a little.
The grind doesn’t take that long to access the new areas and content. My understanding is that lot of the later tiers of masteries aren’t needed to complete the story.
Gated content allows character progression which is a staple to any MMO and expansion.
There are no spoilers at all here haha
All that work and you chose the wrong one.
Grats to your guild.
I am sorry, but there is no way Ascended is going to be required for raids unless Anet ads in a mechanic similar to Agony.
10% stats above Exotic is just not game breaking enough for the masses, so requiring BiS Ascended is not going to make/break raiding in this game.
At no point in my post did I say that I felt Ascended gear was required for raids. It is for me personally because I want to be a better contribution, but again, at no point in my post did I talk about this.
I’m confused by the people who are against the grind to get Ascended gear for raids.
Raids are supposed to be endgame content that takes commitment, investment and dedication. You will be spending a lot of time in raids learning the encounters and running constant trials until you and your guild finally succeed.
If people are willing to commit so much effort into doing the raids, why aren’t they willing to put in the effort into getting Ascended gear? At least the weapons and trinkets, anyway.
Unfortunately the title and post are both far too dramatic to allow a reasonable discussion.
Try toning it back a little?
but haven’t started hyping HoT yet (an expansion).
Uhhhh
Didn’t the Zhaitan thing only happen because they were rushed to release the game earlier than they wanted to?
They confirmed no underwater weapons when they first talked about HoT legendaries.
I feel like it’s a very strong incentive to take the Nature Magic tree, so whatever would replace it would need to be absolutely amazing.
My ranger’s name is Lomeo, so his drakes are Moe and Leo.
I’m so lame it’s cool, right?
I’m pretty sure your license is linked to your account, so as long as you log into your account, you should be good to go, yes.
You do realize that those 3 choices will likely be running Berserker?
warrior elite broski, its called berserker
Oh kitten Anet, I knew I would be forum-slain some day when I saw the reveal, and today is the day of reckoning.
Spirits are fine in raids so far. They’re actually pretty optimal.
Pets don’t get hurt by AOE in raid fights (thank you Anet) and, while it probably isn’t intended, pets/minions/etc. count as bodies needed for the lightning circle on the Guardian boss – A Druid can handle the mechanic by him or herself sometimes. lol
Take that, banners.
A random player is suggesting we rework an elite specialization created by paid game designers before it has seen play on live servers.
That’s what this thread is.

ty
The problem for raiding and the “zerker meta going away” is that people don’t understand what the zerker meta is.
The zerker meta in a raid group would be 10 glass cannons running only utilities that promoted group dps gain. I didn’t see that happening at all in the beta.
I’m expecting cleric/magi to be a regular thing. The first clear of the raid boss used full Druid, and healing power is supposed to be buffed and become more important, especially with Druid base heals going down.
I’m preparing staff, of course, but I’m also preparing Sword/Warhorn to provide some more damage for the team during points in encounters where you can fit it in (burn phases, breaking the wall on the tongue monster boss, etc.).
Who said Druid is supposed to be burst and Ventari is supposed to be sustained?
Pretty sure both are supposed to provide team support. How they play out is how they’ll play out. Let’s wait and see how they do in raids.
Ranger’s issue right now is that they trade team support for more self-support, which doesn’t help as much in competitive, coordinated play.
Druid should provide a solution to this, and as others have stated, I would wait until after the expansion launches.
People don’t seem to understand that the only 2 ways the sword can be easier to learn are from changing the skills completely (no thanks) or changing the way leaps work across all aspects of the game.
Honestly if you just spend a few minutes practicing timing your movement and weapon swapping on a dodge roll dummy, it actually plays really well. I hope it stays as is, and I don’t mind the skill cap on it.
Wooden Potatoes is just stating his opinion and claims as such, and his opinions can be pretty weird sometimes anyway – especially lately.
Voice communication will always make the game easier – it’s communication, after all. The fights can be done without it, though.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Hate to be that guy, but this feedback probably belongs in the Ranger forums.
I liked how it looked on my Asura, though.
This is competitive content. If you want to be a part of it, put in the time to get the gear. Do not ask ANet to push it towards casual. While the armor takes a while, ascended is not even that hard to get.
Besides, my understanding is they updated the post to say that it’s only recommended for raids, not required. It is only 5%, after all.
Raids are not meant for casual players. This is the competitive content that competitive players have been asking for.
Making the hard work people do to get Ascended meaningless is a bad idea IMO.
So you would prefer that they just make Ascended armor much easier to come by, so that players can stock up on it? I don’t know, that’s one way to go with it, but it sort of devalues the process of earning it.

Sounds like you’re only 2-3 hours from finishing the map.
