Well a short bow ranger you can never really get conditions off from them because the short bow is so fast and in some way I agree condition removal is almost useless in the game because they are added on so much.

That is kind of a bad area in game and its not just conditions, I mean if you interrupt things in the game they just do it again right away. To me if your casting something and its interrupted it should go on cooldown.

while true, i tend to get most of my conditions from traps than i do for my short bow in most point-contesting situations. in general i find a powershort-bow to be much more reliable than a condition-shortbow build. you just don’t get flanked. face the ranger and don’t let him get a height advantage.

I tend to apply most of my damaging conditions when i stun-lock/mobility-lock you with traps, and dogs

i suppose the counter is just apply more conditions than the ranger (i suppose). Rangers have 3 ways of condition removal. 1 is a signet which is on a 60s cooldown which basically kills your pet, the second is a pool of water which clears conditions once every 3 seconds and applies regen, and the third is a grand master trait which only transfers 3 conditions to your pet. you can essentially force them out of the second skill, the first destroys half their dps, and the other is taken because it’s essential to most pvp-cases.

or you can go for a spring flower look and go with light greens, other yellows, and whites. research some yellow flowers for those or model your colour after the sylvari dogs.

i play a mixed trapper ranger + pure melee sometimes when i’m fooling around on spvp or for dueling guardians. it’s fun and the ranger melee weapons just feel nice. i’m not an anchor i’m constantly darting around. there isn’t some insta-teleport melee skill which makes the experience visceral and i tend to hit more with my pet in melee.

you can stun lock + knock down + evade almost all the time to mitigate damage. and works well with the skirmish skills and pet swapping builds. it’s not as frantic as playing ele, and it’s less straight forward than warrior and guardian. the amount of inbuilt defensive (evade + block) utilites on the weapon. and it makes it easier to use your trapper combo fields.

Any consideration for the ranger class?

I never said ranger was better at insert thing here than class insert class here, which people here seem to be under the impression of. I’ve never claimed that ranger was top tier, and have repeatedly been saying rangers need help here on the forum, so I don’t seem to understand where people are getting the impression that I think Ranger is fine.
I also openly admit I’m not the best PvP guy, or WvW guy… but I do tend to hold my own when I go in and play in those areas, and I don’t feel like I’m sankittenging my team by being a ranger. Maybe I just don’t operate at the levels/tiers you all do, but I certainly try in the levels/tiers I am in, and I tend to have moderate success.

I’ll try to get better in those areas and advance before I go speaking about rangers in the future.

the audacity that a dev would play more than one class for personal and balance play! like opening their view of the game is going to hurt the built of camps of thought by trying to experience what other players are having for themselves!

i know the point your making, but honestly being entrenched in a train of thought and camp-ism is a crappy way of dealing with most issues.

Solo queue has no team game. A game mode is needed that forces it, so players are learning and progressing. Can’t have a likeable pvp if average joes can’t jump in and start learning strategy. Right now there is no curve it’s simply jump in and hope your team doesn’t get spanked.

depends on team communication. i try to establish it early, ask what everyone’s doing etc, try and establish what builds every one is using, etc. it’s basically the new players who stay silent, or the ones who are slightly afk for fear of being called out though. when i first started playing Tpvp i would ask “hey so what’s the plan?” and the more experienced player would just say something, i’d go along and then modify it if it works to better suit me.

that being said, high level strategy doesn’t happen at lower tiers and having an entry plan will help quite a bit. doesn’t help when the silent players don’t read chat though. it’s safe to say most players don’t know every maps meta. so it’s hard to achieve a perfect strat. basically having an entry plan and attempting to create communication first thing is a great way of figuring out how each player plays.

sure once you hit the thief you know they’re there… then you hit 1 again and you start jumping around and the thief is gone. maybe it’s just me since i took off auto-target and manually hit 1 to get more control over my sword…

My pet crits for over 1k+ in WvW and I’m only lvl 53 that’s alot and I’m sure it will be higher when I’m 80

Your pet is lvl 80 in WvW and pets don’t scale with your stats. Just use a feline to get over 2k crits and then you’ll be on par with normal auto-attack crits from any other power-crit built profession whenever (if) your pets manages to hit something.

so if you plan on WvWvWing at this point, you just have to go with a tanky BM build, until you can up your level and equipment.

also you’re hitting nearly 2:1 for shortbow hits…calculate your damage totally, are you also including conditions?

edit: sorry fully read post instead of just skimmed through it looking for key words…

felines will have a higher dps than you. they have some of the hardest hitting attacks and a full bm is capable of a 3k-5k crit each hit. as far as i know, this is the design of rangers and pets are supposed to be 30-40% of your dps.

axe is really bad for single target, and you can raise your single target dps by switching to a sword+offhand (but you have to get good at using it to get the effect you want).

i’m not really familiar with cats (i run duel dogs because double/triple knockdown+ fear is fun to have).

well hopefully soon our resident godly ranged dps ranger can upload some videos of him dispatching thieves for all of us to learn from.

the intentional snail pace production at the professions and balancing factory leads me to believe that a few years from now professions will see some decent changes. until then just reroll or don’t pvp in this mess.

i think that maybe………..just maybe………you need to…….learn to play

evasive bunker rangers dispatch thieves in short order. trap rangers even shorter.

thieves are one of the easiest matchups for ranger in spvp apart from warrior

exactly… i kitten off thieves quite a bit with a trap set up and duel dogs. high amounts of evasions and such. just hit your stun break when you get basalisk poisoned and and then eat them up while their constantly being stunned, knocked downed or rooted…other than pistol c/d thieves that is because c/d is the hard counter to any pet…

These are just the simple ones:

Pets
F2 skills are now instant. Numbers may be rebalanced after the new balance state is determined.

Longbow

Long Range Shot –
Now applies a 1 second cripple.
Lowered arc slightly or increased flight speed to improve accuracy at a distance.

Barrage -
Lowered cooldown to 25 seconds.

Greatsword

Swoop now applies a 2 second cripple.

Axe

Ricochet-
Your pet now “counts” as a foe for the sake of this skill. The axe will bounce to and off them, dealing no damage to them but allowing the Ricochet to hit your foe twice in 1v1 duels.

Winter’s Bite-
Increased damage.

Off-hand Axe

Path of Scars -
Slightly increased damage.

Whirling Defense-
You can now move, but you are crippled while channeling this skill.

Spirits
Spirits are now invulnerable. Further changes to be made after their new balance state is discovered.

Attack of Opportunity

Now functions as a “stacking” buff in that each time it is gained, it adds a counter, consuming one counter for 50% bonus damage with each attack. What this means is that triggering Moment of Clarity with Hilt Bash no longer wastes a proc and that multiple sources can of AoO can be used in rapid succession without wasting procs.

LB

- i would actually like to see the arc increased so that you can actually hit the mobs on the walls and shoot over ledges in W3 without having to stand on the ledge, arrow speed needs to be increased though. make it a chain where every 3’rd or 2nd gets get cripple.

GS

- i hit fine with swoop, fix the damage so that it actually adds to your dps instead of hinders it if used in melee range. i really have no problems hitting people with my gs, using i have 2 dog knockdowns and a stun

Axe

- i like that idea, but i’d prefer if the first hit for a lot more than the subsequent hits. i don’t mind if they scale down (slightly) the bounce and put it on the first, this way it increases single target viability. or have the axe correctly jump off walls.

- i would prefer a longer chill instead of more damage, or reduce cd

- agreed
- i wouldn’t say crippled i would let you move at the same speed as block for the gs

Spirits

i would prefer that their boons proc 50% untraited, 100% traited. perhaps increase the range they can proc for and have them ground targeted when summoned so that you can put them on safe zones

- perhaps add trait that allows all individuals in range get buff (not just 5)

furthermore…

spike trap – so long as it’s visible it works like caltrops (instead of single point on crossing). it’s silly when i see people roll over spikes and and then walk back onto it as it’s disappearing. or having a pet trigger it and then the people behind walk on the spikes just fine.

i’ve basically only roamed since release day (my main leveled up from 15-30, 45-60, and 70-80 on wvwvw). the only thing that i dislike with the current wvwvw is that it’s way too easy to spot solo players. i don’t zerging because it feels to easy, so i hit last of the pack reinforcements, camps, etc. i like having the mindset of stalking and hunting my prey on a ranger, using my knowledge of the map to my advantage, staying just off the well traveled paths. but if players have a similar issue to me, i can see a red line at a distance i can’t even click on them.

lately, i’ve been hitting zergs more often. but that may be due to FA hitting T2 and i’m starting to play on more during NA prime-time. i have exotics weapons for all different situations but even then there’s not much 1 player can do against 15+ except port as fast as possible.

Let them bash the ranger…that way when they’re killed by one it makes their humiliation all the better. You won’t see people in T5 bashing them considering we’ve all been killed by a ranger at some point or another (some more than others), and you see them quite a lot down here.

one of my favourite things to do in W3 is to use my SPvP finishers and down them that way…i feel it adds more to the humilitation especially when they get finished by deers and rabbits…i have over 100 of both so, i need to use them somehow.

wouldn’t 30/10/0/0/30 be the better damage output? if you focus on zerg warfare and dealing damage as a primary output, you should also pay attention to your healing and pet damage as well, and since you’re not relying on conditions.

that being said, the -/-/30/-/- is really only done for empathic bond (that nerf hit us really hard unfortunately, rangers need better condition removals not less…)

isn’t S/D one of our best defensive weapon set ups? 3 evades without having to rely on a dodge roll on a relatively short cool down?

…imho it’s a great weapon setup already, but i prefer the rage boon on horn, and eagles.

sword 2 has a relatively low cool down, when i want to play using my (for fun) pure melee build, having a fire trap or healing springs (for water field) is pretty easy to activate.

…oddly enough i’m having a lot of fun with pure melee ranger running duel dogs and survival builds…I didn’t care about being a legolas, but i wanted to be a drizzt do’urden or an Aragorn-type ranger, and with the current buffs i’m having a lot of fun with it.

i’ve been playing around with a pseudo-100blades style ranger relying on double dog knockdowns+hilt bash stun lock and qz+pet swap sword 1 spam on quickness, with basically perma rage (horn+weapon swap) so that my crit rate is generally 50% (base 35%). (burst includes birds, maul, sword 3 and sword 1 spam. you open with swoop hit hilt bash, let your first dog knock down then simultaneously switch to another dog and use maul, switch weapon+sick em+qz at the end of qz hit 2 to make a distance use hunters call and jump back in to finish)

i think people just have to move their heads around the idea that rangers are a bows only class and i for one welcome the move towards melee. that being said, i could really care less for competitiveness and i really just enjoy experimenting with builds and playing odd builds that most people aren’t used to fighting.

every time the bramble begins it’s next attack (visually it lowers) if they can invuln, or evade, or walk out at the right time they become free of the vines. this is possible by all classes

the key is to make them walk back into the vines so they are rooted again.

Lol, this isnt true. Warriors are the best dps of the game, I am kittening jealous of its dmg. I play ranger, but the worst profession for sure its engineer. Then necro and ranger. The rest may be need few changes, but warrior and guard, nah. They are too good.

I do pretty well as an engineer in PvP… that being said i’m 100% bunker. using water fields and explosions for additional regen… it was pretty much a pick up and play class for me. i just wish they were more mobile.

My ranger beats most guardians in sPvP, and even when i’m doing a pure melee survival build. a tanky trapper ranger is a good counter to most bunker types.

Edit: in WvWvW most people run dps builds. so a knights+condition gems set is a good balance to counter most people. playing ranger isn’t terrible but definitely does make you want for more (I use all weapon types in WvWvW, and my build allows to change and be effective for every weapon type – I play generally balanced – and i really don’t believe in optimization but increasing utility)

i’ll agree with Uncle Salty for secondary weapons. but i tend to carry at least 1 of every ranger weapon in my inventory and all for a different purpose.

i go axe-horn, with horn giving might on switch and axe giving power on kills, this is mainly for just getting a 25 stack of 7 power per stack before i do anything.

from there i usually switch between horn-sword and gs. GS is great for general survivability but dps on sword is still much higher than the GS. imho it’s more effective to use your QZ+Pet swap 6 second of burst on sword (if you have a high crit chance, and have a quickness rune that’s a full 10 seconds of quickness! that you’ll be stuck like glue on. with rampage with one, might on swap, and horn you’re attacks only get stronger) than it is for GS. for both i tend to not use auto-attack and it provides both with much better control.

but overall, GS is a much safer option, and for someone who isn’t really that nuanced with the sword i don’t recommend using it until you have the time and effort to use it properly.

…i just wish a pure melee ranger was an actual viable option outside of wpve

depends though, As far as difficulty-skill-ratio Ranger is pretty easy to use until late game. but you don’t really learn the nuances of your class as a tank-spank ranger in general wpve.

it’s definitely easier to use than an elementalist. and definitely harder to play then as a warrior/thief. but you actually have a pretty good set of mobile-defensive skill sets and weapon attacks.

if you look at the sPvP forum, Ranger has misplaced warrior on the “tier lists”. and a mobile-traper has many skills sets which can basically take out most thieves in wvwvw and general sPvP. if anything ranger is getting much better now that “obstruction” doesn’t happen 1/3 of the time. and especially now that people are getting off the idea that a ranger’s pet is useless and only want to use ranged weapons.

Sick ’em
As awge, I am running a WS+BM build for PVE, WvW and sPvP. With 10 in skirmish for the pet buff (either +30% run speed or +30% crit damage), the jag is a great burst tool. If you are careful, you can effective use this to pick off single target even during zergs. I’m beginning to think the +run speed is the best choice for the pet, since their biggest weakness is catching up to targets. What do others think?

Protect Me
This is really an amazing ability, especially in sPVP. I can get out of very sticky situations by hitting this and doing a quick pet switch before it dies. Highly underrated

Learn to use 1-h sword+dagger defensively
I’m still getting the hang of this, but you can really surprise people by pulling out the sword and dagger and doing 3 consecutive evades and then crippling. My advice is if you need to get out of bad situation and create some distance, use sword 2 to leap back then swap to SB and hit 3. Now you have some room to work with.

You can leap back with sword 2, press the key to rotate 180 degrees, and press sword 2 again to do a double leap away. You have to cancel your target first though, and disable auto-target.

on a similar note, if you’re running supplies for WvWvW use a sword, horn, and GS. you’re not expecting to kill anything using these weapons but you’ll fly across the map with a tripple leap (double leap from sword, 1 from GS) and a mix between a 25% boost in speed and your speed boost from your horn.

honestly while downed you have much better options using your pets.

A boar can knockdown, so can all dogs. the best bet though is a wolf or a hyena. it’s actually possible to interrupt a total of 4 times, although rare.

The problem is you want to be a front-liner and run full zerk gear. you pretty much have to build up on toughness and healing power if you’re going to be doing that. which means you’re going to have to drop some of your attack power for defense.

a ranger doesn’t have the same armor value as a guardian, and the only protection he can get is pretty much on evasion/dodge roll. you’re defense should be constant movement and use of your short bow’s or swords evasive skill. i find a good defense is a tripple knockdown + quickness achieved by going duel dog (any dog + hyena). it’s actually possible to chain a stun and then interrupt their attacks, while pelt them with arrows.

what kind of weapons do you like to use? what kind of pet’s do you like to use? what kind of damaged do you want to be specced for?

Edit: your main defensive skills are: protect me, and lightning reflexes. rampage of one provides a good/reliable use of stability as well. if you run greatsword your #3 is great for gap closing/making and your #4 is pretty good for blocking ranged attacks/1 big spike.

Greatsword Underrated?

Well you can’t use the GS alone meaning as a primary weapon due to the damage it does. Its sufficient if you run in full berserker gear. If you add Beastmaster the main damage is been done by the pet. Since GS has almost no condition damage you can’t really combine it with traps as well. So i see bad game design there. Whats a weapons purpose at all if not damage?

Utility, defense, escape, mobility. It works in a build where you don’t plan on putting out boomboom damage yourself. You have two weapon sets for a reason, slot damage in the other one if you feel the need. Again, though the damage isn’t as high, probably the weakest outside of single target axe, it still can do some. Maul, swoop, and counter attack can all put out 1000+ hits easy, I hit a 3800 yesterday. It just isn’t the best fit for some conventional builds. Similar to how not many bunkers slot longbow.

in addition, gap closing is pretty great with the great sword using swoop. i have short bow for damage, in combination with field effects from traps. swoops also triggers a field effect, and great sword is a pretty good weapon to use against d/d thieves at least for defensive purposes.

i tend to maximize my rangers utility over raw damage, so different designs and gaming philosophy’s will always differ from “what is best”

hmmm…

personally i found that a knights set (Power, Precision, Toughness) with Carrion (power, condition, Vitality) and Beserker attachments (power, precision, crit damage) to work fine. this allows me to be tanky enough to take a couple hits from pure burst warriors, allows me to room to make a mistake or two (by being tanky enough) while still being able to apply good all around damage that isn’t that dependant on a single type of damage.

…personally, i like tankier builds and prefer out lasting an opponent with perma cripples, knockdowns, and interrupts (since DoT classes are meant to slow down the pace of the fight).

…don’t just focus on your armor, since it really only effects you. take into account your pet choices/playstyle as well.

So they buffed condition damage, great for those who are Power/Crit. So we get nothing unless we go conditions… Way to add diversity to builds ANet… Now I’m just going to wait for Elder Scrolls Online to come out… I’m already sure they’ll put more care into this kind of stuff as Bethesda loves us

…just so you know it’s zenimax using bethesda’s IP as a background. it’s not a true bethesda game. if it was the game would be released with multiple game breaking bugs, and poor character balance, but because this is a MMO there would be no mod support… just saying…

how bout this…

  • both sides get flag
  • you cannot capture/get points if enemy has your flag
  • 0 point on kill
  • 5 points awarded to team on killing flag bearer
  • 30 points awarded to team on capture.
  • flag bearer moves 1.2 movement speed
  • flag bearer hp x1.5
  • flag bearer immune to boons and cancels all positive traits
  • flag bearer cannot heal
  • flag bearer cannot go invisible
  • flag bearer skills changed to “flag-type” attacks, swing, aoe stun, plant flag
  • flag bearer cannot go invulnerable
  • flag bearer condition duration halved
  • to recover flag it must not be picked up for 45 seconds.
  • flag bearer has no access to utility skills

…set the map in a 2-fort style with only 2 real entrances, 1 memser portal entrance.
essentially grabbing the flag makes you useless and you could die very easily, but because it’s a timed match where killing the flag bearer and capturing the flag are the only way of getting points, it prevents a death-match viewpoint. set score to 300 for victory or team with most points by 10 minutes in.

tanks will still be required to grab the flag and carry it. dps will be required to simultaneously protect and attack. and roamers will do the job of defending.

Trouble with Thieves

firstly, build you have and supposed weapon set up s/he has?

p/d is a hard counter to everything ranger in most set ups and you’ll most likely lose this should both players have equal skill (this is just due to class imbalance, and multiple C&D targets)

d/d backstab builds are generally very very glassy. you blow their backstab through an early detection and/or reduce the damage taken from their hs spam. most spvp thieves (fotm builds, the common thief) will use d/d spec.

i like to use traps as thief detection warning and then spring an evade to dodge their back stab (also activating protection), hit them with a slow→stun, and then use 3 knockdowns from my fern hound + hyena + hyena summon. gc thieves are easily killable if you can hit them

i tend not to use gs 1 unless if i’m forced to. going to any fight as a pure melee ranger seems to be a bad idea in general, because unless you’re able to tank out the damage you’re probably not going to be able to burst as hard as a a thief and still get away

They need to reduce the damage pets take in AoE, and either reduce the cooldown on swaps, or change the mechanics of how you resurrect your pets.

decreasing switch time is bad tbh… that would make pvp pet swapping even more effective (i use duel dogs) on a 20 second time-line i get access to a howl (another pet, heal, or fear) and 2 seconds of quickness. quickness is single handedly the best boon possible and it’s almost readily available every 20 seconds if built right. and is great for rezzing, burst, and basically everything. if lucky ranger can chain 10 seconds of quickness (rune of rage+qz+petswap)

the timer though should be the regular timer if the pet dies though not the long one we have now.

Yes, is easy to play a OP class against a not Op class? thieves are hard to kill always, a nub thief is hard to kill a nub ranger is easy to kill, but this is due to the classes balance (zero).

To be honest any class with stealth ( and stealth is bugged now) is hard to kill, if you give rangers a stealth skill you will see QQ post in all forums in GW2 about ranger being OP, it is not the thief class what is broken, it is the stealth .

…basically my counter to everything OP is to be aquaman… it’s extremely cheap, and i hate myself for doing it but it’s sooo kitten easy because bad players alwayse chase me when i’m in low health into the water…the thing is i want to be in a downed state when i fight underwater.

…I want ranger’s to be less of an aquaman though…

there is a bug where the pet will continue to heal as it is dead while underwater

putting an interrupt while the pet is rezzing and is dead is essentially an overpowered constant heal. atm it’s very overpowered because of this as there is nothing you can do except let the ranger rez or have your team dedicate time to killing the ranger underwater.

…i tend to abuse this though if it’s anything more than a 1v1

Well I keep wanting to quit my ranger, and then I see a bad kitten vid of elder scrolls online trailer that has a archer being surrounded by enemies who pull their swords out, and he calmly looks on, knocks and arrow, and starts to pull the string back…..and it looks like he is wearing inquest armor from gw2… amazing, it always pulls me back to ranger simply for the bows. Too bad they suck.

…i’m not even gonna say how disappointed i am that ESO isn’t oblivion-skyrim-morrowind with just more people….i want a single player experience in a multiplayer game (e.g. borderlands) not an mmo that takes place in tamriel… sorry had to say this…

back on topic, i used to run search and rescue in dungeons with my old guild. haven’t used it since the update though. ranger is pretty good at reviving people. i play a pretty sturdy build so i tend to use petswap quickness on a revive in pvp and pve. but when i did run it, just to revive quickly i’d use search and rescue and heal at the same time where i would be doubling my rez rate without needing swiftness.

i tend to take out thieves with a traps, and a kitten ton of cc.

knockdowns, interrupts, slow, and immobilize are deadly for thieves. i tend to use traps as a visual aid to time my dodge for their dodge. if they are gc thieves, i generally don’t have problem. spike traps are actually very useful for the 1 sec immobilize.

like what Crabbit said, a P/D thief is extremely hard to fight. dueling one multiple times will show this, especially if they are a competent player overall. the fotm for thieves is still backstab.

…that being said you have a 100% win chance underwater if we include downed-time as still in combat in 1v1…but that’s a different issue.

So...what is the point?

i just enjoy the ranger playstyle…the great sword looks and play’s nicely, the shortbow is basically a sub-machine gun, the sword makes me feel like i’m a pirate-fencer. i enjoy how it’s played. coming from a main that is primarily a pet class to one that is really weird… i like to leave some enemies and simultaneously attack two targets at the same time while no where near each other, i got into the habit of doing that and playing warrior or elementalist differs into that regard.

it’s fun just abusing the long leash range of pets to keep people in combat mode as they run away.

it’s not as straight forward as warrior (i made a warrior to try it out, warrior’s are just too easy to counter because you know what they’re most likely gonna do, and it works ).

i don’t like playing high-number characters. i alwayse chose DoT-based characters and tanks…ranger can full-fill this, i was thinking of taking up necromancer but i’ve never had a problem with actually fighting necromancers to warrant them as much as a threat.

i’m gonna speculate they’re gonna try and fix the dead pet healing underwater glitch….

it’s absolutely game breaking underwater, and i rely on it constantly as a crutch in any bad situation (hey i’m losing, and it’s a 2v1? well i’m gonna try and last as long as possible so i’m gonna hop into that water and face-tank them, kill 1 and then force the other to rage quit in frustration)

…tbh…when i run dungeons (and i rarely run them) i feel usefull just setting combo fields and dealing steady dps, while switching between melee and ranged…i would love another combo field so that i could have constant up time…if i run my combo field build i have ~5 seconds where i don’t have one going because of cool downs… it would be nice to have a constant up time for a combo field where you just switch when one goes down.

pvp side, there was ranger who said traps were useless, thing is when you run trap you run condition builds and as long as you have a great condition removal (empathic bond for example), you pretty much negate a trapper damage. but i use traps mainly for combo fields and for thieves and mesmers (i run sb/gs). a combo field add’s like 50-100 more damage on my short bow…that’s huge considering the shortbow’s rate of fire.

i really don’t have a use for poison because fire and spike are just plain better tbh. and lightning reflex has to be on my skill bar for an oh-kitten-eject button.

1. It’s the slowest class, which makes zero sense.
2. In PvP it’s one of the lower end classes of DPS.
3. It has zero escape skills.
4. The traits available are laughable. Out of all of them maybe 3-4 are useful.
5 .The slots skills are almost as bad as traits. Only 3-4 are worth it. The rest are trash.

1. not really, if you run signet of wild you’re base speed is still faster then most classes. i can fly across w3 using a s/w+gs. it’s running away from thieves which is a problem. learn how to do a swiftness tripple leap (using sword to jump twice, and then gs charge). in spvp, if people are running ranged, you use block with a gs and run as far as possible and then swoop when the timer’s done.

3. not entirely true. you’ll be chased but it’s fun to be hunted. i love leading a party of lowbies on a journey around the borderlands. i know almost all the safe jump spots, shortcuts, etc. if the class’ escape skills are not doing it for you then work really hard to find a roundabout way of increasing your personal running away skills.

Look at the “legendary” bows.. Were the warriors and assasins and all other classes gets cool MANLY gear, the ranger can shoot rainbows and have flowers in their footsteps.. WTF^^ I am a guy, and straight..^^ And as for pets.. for me it is cannonfodder with the same emotional attatchment as a schrapnel mine^^ It has no story in getting them, and i think anet looks upon it as purely tactical choice, but in that case then remove the RPG-description and just call it a MMO!!!!

hey i’m also a straight guy. but are you so insecure about your sexuality that you wouldn’t want to troll people by killing them with rainbows and flowers? shortbow imho is the trolliest weapon in the game, and filled with lulz.

…i don’t care for RP what so ever, i play this game because i enjoy pvp and W3 (only reason why i bother with PvE is to get cool looking gear)

if you put atleast 5 points into beastmaster you’re pet’s f2 is almost insta-cast. if you’re running melee ranger you and you’re pet are going to be nearby the target.

To the EB Commander that was in EB-borderlands that partied me (while i was just farming sometime last night), you guys are pretty cool. i’m probably gonna head back to FA sometime tomorrow. keep working at it, and best of wishes in trying to get back to T4.

dueling players will be in 2-6 pop cap games. this means 3v3. if you’re looking for a 3v3 you’re not gonna find it unless it’s a tourney. if you’re looking for a regular 5v5 try and find something on the lower scales that are atleast 6/10 players. if you’re looking to just play spvp go to a game with 10-13 players.

problem solved. i duel people out of boredom if the room population drops to 3-4 people because a 2v2 is just everyone running around in a circle capping points and occasionally a 2v1.

People want to report my ranger.

there is an apparent bug though. the pet continues to heal after it has been downed. so an interrupt while the pet is killed doesn’t seem to work.

i’ve been slightly abusing it, but pretty much only in 3v1 situations. i’ll properly res my pet to res me in a 1v1 fight for sake of fairness.
