A proper scholar investigates all the possibilities… and those of us who’ve been around long enough remember when a theory that had been accepted by pretty much the entire community crashed and burned due to being Jossed by ArenaNet… and that was one that involved the Mursaat.
I’m curious. Which one was that again?
I haven’t been able to enter the cave yet, but is there any chance it might be the cave where Ronan found the Pale Tree’s seed?
Thanks for the reply!
I know that much, but the poster made it seem like it was mentioned in GW1’s early days, but he was probably mistaken then.
Dagnar Stonepate Dragon Blood Sword " The Sanguinary Blade" – Priory story path only.
I know not many would remember Dagnar Sword since it was only briefly mentioned back in GW1 lore during GW1’s early years about the stone summit but the story that Anet expanded on this sword in GW2 helps explains why the Stone Summit are evil and hint to what may have happened to the Stone Summit since we know that the sword was made out of dragon’s blood, as mentioned back in GW1, but now that we confirmed it is the blood of Jormag we can expect to see the Stone Summit again in GW2 once we reach the Jormag Act of the Story.
My apologies for reviving this thread, but I stumbled upon this, and I can’t find any information about the sword prior to GW2. Can anyone enlighten me?
We can see an ancient pale tree in the new zone, they seen to coincide with the dragons waking from the little I have seen. If it dies the magic it holds would be fair game to the dragons.
Do you happen to have a screenshot?
Well, I’m not sure about ambient dialog, but my favorite line in the game has to be this one from the “Short Fuse” story from the Asuran PS.
Savant: “To the victor goes the spoils. And if we have to spoil your face to get them, so be it.”
Zhaitan’s rise was witnessed by Cobiah Marriner and it is shown ni Sea of Sorrows. It’s possible that The Maw or the risen Giganticus Lupicus (the latter confirmed to be from the previous rise, the former having had advanced activity just before his rise) acted as heralds, but there’s nothing conclusive on that.
Not that I don’t believe you, on the contrary, but where has it been confirmed to be from the previous rise? All I know (from the wiki, admittedly) is that it was reanimated post-rising of Zhaitan.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Temple of the Six Gods was originally situated in the Crystal Desert (Well, Crystal Sea, at that time). It was cast down into the Realm of Torment along with Abbadon during his fall after it was already defaced, meaning the other 5 Gods weren’t neccesarily worshipped there.
Also, wasn’t it revealed in one of the Arah dungeon paths that the Bloodstone was strengthened by drawing upon Zhaitan’s power, meaning it had to, at that point in time at least, be situated in Arah? I’m not 100% certain of this, but I believe the Gods gathered multiple magical artifacts, the original whole Bloodstone (which was created by the Seers) among them, and brought them to Arah.
What’s more interesting is that Suriel is a Quaggan!
She sure knows how to disguise herself!
I can’t elaborate too much right now, as I’m on a smartphone, but I don’t think anyone mentioned this yet. The ghostly looking Root Behemoth has positively nothing to do with Mordremoth. It is a nod to the boss (and his minions) you needed to beat in GW Prophecies to gain access to Aurora Glade, and appeared in the same mission the other ghostly characters (the ghostly White Mantle and Shining Blade) are constantly recreating.

I may certainly be mistaken, but isn’t the portal to the Mists in Lion’s Arch also approximately placed around the hypothetical leyline between the Thaumanova Reactor and the Chaos Crystal Caverns?

There are little transportation golems you can talk to at the entrance and between each level.
needed to be rescued then watched as we did all the work from that point on
Heh heh

You are very welcome!
I had the same question, so I asked on Twitter.
Here’s the response:
Primordus does not corrupt, he creates his destroyers from lava and rock.
Not entirely correct.
Primordus can and does in fact corrupt, as stated in the interview linked below. He creates some minions by encasing living creatures (like trolls) in layers of lava and rock.
Hmm, very interesting. The colorations are indeed strikingly similar.
I indeed always imagined Mordremoth’s corruption as similar to the “Ophiocordyceps unilateralis” (some kind of parasitic fungus that infects ants and affects their behavior), thus explaining why the NC could be corrupted Sylvari: Their bodies aren’t corrupted, just filled with corrupted fungus (or pollen, as seen in today’s release). Though it remains to be seen whether or not all NC have had contact with this pollen, or if this is a new thing, I guess.
About the Toxic Spore Cleanser achievement: I did the Temple of Dwayna event with a few guildies earlier, and Mallyck had a corrupted by spores buff. He didn’t seem any different. I believe there’s just a random chance that any champion or veteran has this buff.
Please, do tell. You’ve made me very curious.
Quite true. Miniature was perhaps the wrong term to use.
Looking back, I’d describe it like a hypothetical transition phase between a krait and a leviathan. Bulkier body, blunter snout etc.
But then again, when I went to get a better look at it after I’d killed it, it disappeared, so I didn’t get too good of a look.
Edit Just noticed a picture has been uploaded on the wiki. Apart from the bulkier body, it doesn’t really resemble a leviathan at all :p
(edited by MaesterTed.6571)
I don’t know where else to post this, but is it me, or does the Oratuss look a lot like a miniature Leviathan?
I’m at the boss of World 1 Zone 2, and I keep falling through the spring pads, rendering me unable to ascend to the stump where the boss is located.
Anything I can do about this?
Edit
It appears I can only use one of the springs?
I’ve tried searching the forums, but didn’t find anything related to this.
The goal of this dynamic event (It’s very close to Mabon Waypoint in Caledon Forest) is to find the mini animals, deal a bit of damage to them so they turn into an ooze, and bring the ooze to" Zaxis" the golem. Whenever you give one to the golem, another ooze spawns right next to him, which you can just pick up and give to him again, and again, until the bar is full. When it is full, a giant red ooze spawn, but instantly disappears.
Also, you get no reward for finishing it this way.
Edit
The wiki says the oozes you return come out of the golem through a hatch in his abdomen, so maybe that isn’t a bug. But I still got no reward for finishing it, and I tried it multiple times. (Also did this quest on another character a week or 2 ago. Same thing happened)

General reasons for a lot of the ones you mentioned:
- Gameplay mechanics
- It’s a fantasy game, what do you expect? (the greatsword thing, for example.)
- Can’t give one race unfair advantages in comparison to other races.
- Saved for future updates
A bit more specific ones:
- Most of the NPCs you ‘resurrect’ aren’t actually dead, just defeated, knocked out.
- The places of power are either places where something big happened in the past, great natural energies, or something similar.
- Can an elephant run faster than a jaguar? Bigger size comes with greater mass. In addition to that: gameplay mechanics.
While I am abolutely not in favor of this theory whatsoever either, I am wondering about something:
Wouldn’t binding souls to elementals (if that is indeed what’s happening, which is still pure speculation as far as I’m aware) fall under the category of necromancy?
It sounds an awful lot like Oola’s research, who combined golemancy and necromancy by binding her own soul to her golem, if I’m not mistaken.
I see what you mean, but maybe it’s less of a problem for me considering I thought it was canon to begin with, since the SAB never physically disappeared from Rata Sum.
Also, the minstrel I liked that one.
I still don’t get the big deal though.
Asura can create giant friggin’ lasers and holographic projectors, but when an Asuran made video game console becomes canon, that is a problem?
Just out of curiosity though Konig, why wasn’t it considered canon back in April?
Was that an assumption because it was an April fools thing? Or did a developer comment upon it? I took a break from GW2 during that period, so a lot of the details are a bit foggy to me.
I don’t usually post a lot, but I have to get this off my chest:
I don’t mean to be rude, and I don’t mean to offend anyone either, but I’m getting kind of annoyed with the slowly increasing whining about the living story.
The majority of people here weren’t too happy with Scarlet, and were telling they needed a break from her. When we get exactly that, and nobody’s happy either.
The invasions won’t magically stop either, it’s been announced some time ago that they will remain permanent, albeit at a reduced frequency.
We’ll get back to Scarlet in time.
I fail to see how this update is destroying the game. GW1 had candy cane weapons and similar joke weapons.
(Just to be clear, I’m not saying the LS and this update are top notch, but does it really deserve all of the flack it’s given? You don’t even have to pay for it, for crying out loud!)
Mocking you by throwing free stuff at you?
Wow… wow.
Never look a gift horse in the mouth, people. It’s rude.
I hate to be that guy, but if you’re writing a fanfic, I feel like I should specifically point this out. It’s Primordus, not Primordius. Without the second I. You might wanna check and correct that in your story.
I have to agree on this, especially on the combo fields. It took me two months to realise that actually was a thing! :p
I once named a ranger of mine who I made in the image of LOTR’s Boromir ’Wandusnut Simplee"
These look too cool!
Could you do one of my Asura Necromancer, preferably holding the skull mask or something similar (so her face is visible, or partially visible), if it’s not too much of a problem to ask of you?
Thanks a lot in advance!
The creative charr race likely made their new Fort Kinar (ranik backwards) on the top of the ruins, and demolished the rest, like they did with Nolani.
Oh hey! I didn’t even notice that!
Though Kinar definitely isn’t built on top of the ruins of the fortress itself, Steeleye Span is. Kinar seems to be built around where Deeter Saberlin was being kept (Bonus for the Fort Ranik mission).
Ahhh, yes, correct. I didn’t remember the exact wording anymore. Thanks for clearing that up.
Didn’t wanna make a new topic about this, but about Scarlet: Wasn’t she supposed to be someone we would’ve already been somewhat familiar with, or someone we would at least have some degree of familiarity with?
I love this Well done, sir!
Holy smokes, that looks amazing! Well done!
Hey everyone!
I decided to do a cover of a GW2 song for it’s upcoming first birthday, and I decided on the Norn Theme.
Here’s a nearly completed version of it right here:
https://soundcloud.com/banjoted/norn-theme
I need to make some changes in the beginning primarily, because the VSTs I used sound kitten y :p
If you have some feedback or criticism, feel free to throw it my way, and I’ll try my best to improve it in the final version.
Thanks a lot in advance, and I hope you enjoy it!
I think the weapon mechanic is mainly that. A mechanic. Some weapons might strengthen the spell that’s being cast, perhaps that’s why Verahd prefers staves.
Now, I may be wrong in this, and please correct me if I am, but I don’t remember Killeen wielding any type of weapon while, for instance, fighting the giant branded creature.
In addition to that, we at least know that even in-game not ALL magic requires a channeling tool, as I am able to summon bone minions and use other utility skills without even having any weapons equipped.
I can’t imagine something like elementalist with pistol or rifle. Or mesmer with hammer and bow. It would look silly.
The same could be said for the greatsword though, no? I wouldn’t have thought it to be a frequently used mesmer weapon, especially going by GW1 standards. But the designers managed to make it work, so I have the deepest trust in them.
Fantastic! Thanks a lot, Konig!
Thankfully, I have a guardian who’s 1 level away from doing the Battle of Claw Island, so I can go check it out.
I just finished reading Sea of Sorrows, and I was wondering if the creature called “The Maw” might be a Leviathan, which was seen in the Manifesto trailer, and of which skeletons can be found around Tyria.
In addition, at one point Cobiah calls it a leviathan, though that’s far from solid proof for obvious reasons.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Leviathan
What kind of creature do you think “The Maw” is?
(My apologies if this has been discussed already, but I did a search and it came up empty.)
@Notso: That’s been there for a while.
I made a similar thread about the door in the Straits of Devastation quite a while ago on the Guru forums, and a user by the name of ‘Elan’ found them. While the pictures no longer seem to be available, it definitely was the same one you found.
The thing he’s describing in his third post looked exactly the same as the dragon hologram projector thingies.
Here’s the thread for reference: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/71587-weird-door-in-the-approximate-location-of-bloodstone-caves-from-gw1/
Regarding Kralkatorrik – his breath was described as plasma. He basically crystallized via intense heat. This is far from preservation like you claim.
While I am absolutely against the “Elder Dragons are the 6 Gods” theory, this could technically be viewed as a perversion of preservation.
What I mean with that is that things made out of crystal are more likely to be kept intact -or, ‘preserved’, if you will- since of course, crystal is a way stronger and more durable material than say grass, stone, and organic materials.

^ I came in here to say the exact same thing, Arcalas.
The reason you can’t see the old Rata Sum when falling (aside from technical reasons, probably) is that it seems to have moved south-west a bit while it was being constructed further.
I don’t know how accurate this map is, but here you can see where the old Rata Sum approximately was.

I think it might be interesting to see a part of the old rata sum in the Polymock Arenas.
You’re very welcome! I’m quite interested in all of this myself. Sadly, we don’t have a whole lot of information on this… Yet.
Let’s hope there’s going to be some explaining in future expansions!
I’m assuming we’ll be able to at least visit the bloodstones in the Maguuma Jungle when we gain access to the area.
I found this as well a while ago. Here’s the topic so you can check out the replies I got.
Pretty nice to see it all written out. Thanks for putting your time into this.
I have but one question: Is it known why Glint’s name is changed from Glaust to Glint?
