I’d like to see an upgrade to the dye interface to sort dyes by set. This would enable players to more easily preview the dyes: spending more time experimenting and less time looking through the wiki. With this added level of accessibility, I believe this would help veterans better determine which birthday packs to use, and it could also encourage gem sales.

Incoming gemstore chair mounts.

I’m going to be outrageous.

Mix of Asura, Charr, and Sylvari technology has brought you this new technology! In specific areas, like your favorite drinking hole, or gathering places, you can now grow your own personalized chair! It only costs 600 gems in order to get your own chair tailored to you! Watch it grow right in front of your eyes, for your maximum comfort, while pleasing your aesthetic senses!

Hahaah. Thanks for the laugh. I needed it today.

I don’t know why you’re implying I don’t have the right build or equipment. The reason I can’t do hard content is because of visual noise, OHKO red rings of death that I can’t see, and the general sluggishness of the controls: nothing at all to do with my knowledge of the game. (Also, fyi, it’s in poor taste to tell a disabled person what they can and can’t do. Seriously.)

I don’t know why you’re being so defensive; I never implied anything (seriously, reread it), I was simply stating the requirement of proper build/equipment for success. If you want to succeed, all you have to do is find the right group and try. That’s it.

Sorry. I’m used to being defensive like this. Like I’ve said, I feel this game is really hostile toward players like me, so it’s natural. I’m sick and tired of being demeaned and kicked out of groups for not being able to reach some paragon level of perfection.

I want to get better, but I’ve exhausted my resources, so I hope you can understand. The shift from GW1 to 2 was massive: twitch reflexes over strategy and thought, which has turned me from a leader, expert, and mentor, into a scrub – even worse when I get lambasted for missing a single tell in a sea of particle effects or when my reaction time is off by 1/16th of a second; or when this “great community” tells me to git gud despite knowing I have limitations (I’ve been playing MMOs since 1999 and have never encountered a community so hostile to disabled players as GW2 – multiply that cruelty x 100 for your one fraction of players). I’m really good at games in general, but GW2 has been problematic since HoT, and as more people move to Raids/T4, there’s fewer grouping options on the horizon.

You can beat any non-CM encounter in raids or fractals with literally any composition so long as you at least understand the basics and are willing to update your build to be reasonable for that class. Seriously.

My guild lets some of our less skilled or physically handicapped players use supertank healing builds in raids and fractals, and they get clears of T4’s and every raid encounter just like the rest of us. The only challenge here is you looking for a group who will let you do that; just find the right community and everything is accessible to anyone who’s willing to try.

I don’t know why you’re implying I don’t have the right build or equipment. The reason I can’t do hard content is because of visual noise, OHKO red rings of death that I can’t see, and the general sluggishness of the controls: nothing at all to do with my knowledge of the game. I’m glad that you all have such high praise about the community. I truly hope that I was simply unfortunate in my encounters, I’m going to hold out on my opinion for longer, hopefully I’ll see more positivity. I should say that I did make friends with a nice guild, and that’s been really great. I hope to come back to this forum one day with a more positive outlook. Thank you.

A few points to help avoid common toxicity:

1) Don’t complain about difficulty, especially with Fractals and Raids.
2) Don’t ask for help or advice on content deemed too easy by the game’s overlords.
3) If you have a disability, keep it to yourself. Because of the elitist mentality that came with HoT, any slight variance from a flawless run will get you scorn.

Other than that, the community seems to be pretty helpful; and there’s a lot of friendly content creators, too.

You’re probably not missing anything. It’s a matter of taste.

Some players are into ‘twitch’ style gaming. They enjoy mechanically complex encounters and quickly become bored if they don’t feel a rush while playing. Most (if not all) of the highly skilled, seriously dedicated sort that the devs actually collaborate with fall into this category, thus going forward a lot of of the newer PvE content appears to have been designed with their preferences in mind.

There are still lots of others (like me) who really just want something moderately engaging to play with other people at a comfortable pace, but we aren’t the intended audience for fractals and raids.

For example: I really, really enjoyed T4 fractals when Necro was OP and instabilities were basically negligible. You could pug everything everyday with virtually guaranteed success. And for what it’s worth, the rewards were much more satisfying when the content was easier. But, others felt this level of difficulty was a ‘joke’ and so on, so they changed things to be legitimately challenging. So now the hardcore players are satisfied, but now I can hardly stand to bother with ’em.

They simply cannot please everyone, unfortunately.

Yep, and those of us who don’t like or can’t do twitch play are getting pushed out of the game, just to satisfy the elitist raiders, which is really sad.

No one is forcing you to do T4 fractals. No one is forcing you to raid (even less so now that there is alternative methods to gain legendary armor).

What you expect is the same amount of rewards for 0 effort. Fine, play open world pve or run dungeons, the rewards in some of those areas are huge too.

No one is pushing any one out of anything by adding challenging content. The fact that you can’t clear the content but still want the rewards is hardly the fault of the raiding crowd.

Putting words in my mouth. Nice. I don’t really care about rewards, nor did I mention them once – I just want to be able to play relaxing group content after a hard day of work, but since the new Raid-Fractals and Raids have pushed out Dungeons, there’s not much choice left.

If you don’t care about rewards and want to relax, T1 is your friend. The option’s there.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that the game is “catering to elitists”. Just like how you don’t like hard content, should Anet only release easy content when there are players who actually do want a challenge? I think the game would be pretty boring if everything can just be facerolled.

I’m not against hard content…I just hate the way Anet implements it, and how much of a vast departure it is from the original. I loved GW1, and was really good at it, and it’s awful to not be able to do certain content just because I don’t have an insanely good APM or reaction time, or because visual noise prevents me from reading enemy actions. When the game first came out, dungeons were the end game content, and it felt really nice to lead my friends through them. Nowadays I just sit around Queensdale and help new players since people like me are getting grandfathered out.

Why not expand on that notion? Make a guild and help people get acclimated to the game (or join one and help out). There is an ambudance if “easy” and/or non-twitch content available to do and especially new players are having a hard time to get to know all of it and what possibilities there are.

That said, GW2 always has had the problem of creating engaging endgame content. It’s always been the players responsibility to set their own goals and find a path to achieve those. Aside from a very minor amount of items or skins, there is nothing locked behind hard content which can’t also be gained via gold or other time sinks. Maybe you are just burnt out after 5 years of GW2.

I just think it’s unfair to blame 1 fraction of the playerbase for arenanet adding some more challenging content which is in no way required or necessary to complete. There is enough content around for every one or every skill and age level.

I want to get better, but I’ve exhausted my resources, so I hope you can understand. The key difference is how they’re replacing old content with mechanics that punish you for not being flawless. If you don’t like the new Fractal-Raids or Raids, then your only option for group content is dungeons, which aren’t exactly popular these days.

Every content punishes you for not being flawless, that’s what games do. The only difference is the actual margin of error you get. Raids do have lower margin, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s simply a choice the game offers to its players. Do you like to be challenged? Then go raid. Do you not like it? Then don’t. Simple as that.

You also imply the new fractals have raid-like margins, which is only true for their Challenge Mode. Which is kind of suggested by the name, right? And it offers exactly the same choice, right?

Last, but not least, raids do not “replace” any content. You might argue dungeons got abandoned, but they got abandoned before raids were released and their own difficulty overlaps with that of the fractals. So the game didn’t actually lose any difficulty tiers, it only gained an additional one.

I don’t mind a good challenge (I’ve completed Hotline Miami and its sequel and unlocked all achievements on both), but GW2’s version of challenge is just bad: OHKOs if your foot is off by a pixel, and God help you if your finger slips once or if you can’t see what’s going on since visual noise = challenge. Two gods help you if you’re colorblind, since Anet won’t do a thing to make your experience better.

Yh, idgaf how wow does raids. This is a different game, not a wow clone, if you want wow go play wow.

This post perfectly encapsulates why raids never should have been put into the game to start.

Nice blanket statement that is not true at all for so many people.

Its as if there are other reasons people do/don’t play WoW other than raids and reasons why people do/don’t play gw2 other than raids…oh wait thats exactly what the reality is.

If not for some desire to make this game mimic the raid culture of WoW, why would anyone want a raid put into a game that never had them to start with?

A similarly named content can be added without “mimicing raid culture”. Nowhere in gw2 is there a gear treadmill between raids.

I for one loved gw2 combat, community, play style, etc but wanted more challenging group content in the game that I already liked. Raiding alone wasn’t going to pull me to WoW, nor was not having raiding in gw2 pulling me away. I wasn’t going to WoW either way, but I sure as heck wanted more challenging group content in the game I was sticking with.

If a single addition of a type of content into a game you currently are playing drives you away from playing that game, then you clearly didn’t enjoy it as much as you thought.

Here are just a few things that this game never had “to start with”:
- Fractals
- Ascended
- Expansions
- Revenant
- Wardrobe
- Salvage All
- etc

Would you tell someone who loved Revenant that they should have gone to WoW? Or some other game where an “energy based melee class” existed?

Games will continue to change and add content. Otherwise they die and don’t make money. Saying that something shouldn’t exist because “it didn’t have it to start with” 100% invalidates your entire opinion on the subject.

The key difference is how they’re replacing old content with mechanics that punish you for not being flawless. If you don’t like the new Fractal-Raids or Raids, then your only option for group content is dungeons, which aren’t exactly popular these days.

I agree with you dace.8019, I have screws in my fingers so mobility in WVW or PVP is really difficult for me physically and I to prefer PVE content not PVP play style. I don’t believe WVW and PVP are end game content for everybody. I think they should look at an alternative way to get this for players who are not PVP inclined like a repeatable achievement track of some kind would be cool. I also don’t like the aggro and abuse I get in WVW and being kicked out of squads because Im a ranger or because I die a fair bit and not as good as other seasoned PVP players, sure they don’t know i have a physical disability but I liked GW1 cause the player base was friendly and helpful and in WVW and PVP they are abusive and toxic if your not super great at it. I’m on my 6th legendary now and I really would love a legendary back pack and armor but you have to be quite good at maneuvering for raids and fractals so that’s out of my reach for now sadly.
I have enjoyed the odd run if you get a nice group of people but that does not happen very often unfortunately.

GW2 will never be able to match the depth, complexity, and agency of CRPGS like Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, Baulder’s Gate, etc. I’m not slamming the writers, either: it’s just too much for an MMO to take in unless it is centered on roleplaying (Ultima Online). I liken the story to watching the Power Rangers show while the game is buying the toys and hanging with your friends.

I do partly agree with this, although Secret World has done it exceptionally well. That is partly because it tells a story indirectly, which builds towards a greater narrative and partly because horror works better that way.

What GW2 does exceptionally well, is in the open world stories. Verdant Brink is a great example as are most of the LS3 maps. There are also some brilliant map stories throughout the core maps as well. Here the writers are able to let themselves go a lot more and fantasy is much better suited to short, concise stories as well, rather than the bloated episodic, serial style it has (as a genre) devolved sadly into.

Whilst the writers get a huge amount of flak for the central story, often justifiably, they get nowhere near enough credit for the vastly superior map stories they create.

I agree with you on that. I’ve always found the world building and personality of the game much more intriguing and engaging than the feature storyline.

yeah those were good :> (but the ones in lake doric were a bit difficult to solo, the white mantle enemies felt more like veterans with their big aoe attacks) enemies in sirens landing were just fine ^^

Hopefully PoF stays about the same. Season 3 enemies could be punishing if you slipped up, but not like HoT where you die instantly because your foot is off by a pixel.

Makai.3429

There is no need to make open world PvE more difficult because it is not suppose to be.

It actually is. Unlike other MMOs that try to appeal to the majority by making solo content trivial, ArenaNet has always been for the gamers.

The core game was actually heavily nerfed during the first beta in fear of losing players, as people were standing still and getting facerolled. HoT’s difficulty is actually a return to how the game once was, back when a level 2 Moa right out of the gate in Queensdale could kill you within its channeled flurry of pecks. An ettin for example could 1 shot you with its charged club attack. The obvious problem in trying to appeal to this audience however is that they will end up losing the average player, and without vertical progression, there is no alternative except for grouping up, which most people won’t want to bother with.

I’ll never understand this fascination people have with OHKO enemies that take forever to kill. When I bought this game I expected a sequel to Guild Wars (a game that valued strategy and thinking), not Metal Slug Tyria (pure reflexes, and screw you if you’re colorblind).

Doing this would make me quit the game. It’s already become a ridiculous APM fest since HoT.

And now, the challenge for you to try. Remove all your legendary gear, and only use white rarity. Fight without weapon like proper hero. Make sure no traits are selected. This way, the enemies you find too easy will be more challenging to YOU while everyone else is not affected.

Not really, no. The enemies in this game aren’t easy because of your power level, they are easy because you learn their behavior, you know what to expect and how to counter it. Less power will just make them take more time to kill, while posing exactly the same level of threat: none. That’s not a challenge, that’s only grind.

That being said, I don’t mind open world to be the cakewalk it is. There’s enough instanced content for players who seek challenge.

P.S. In my opinion, HoT is still cakewalk, not “horrible disaster”.

Fixed that.

If i wanted to raid, i’d be raiding.

Anet changes their mind on design choices all the time. I remember when Fractals were turned into levels: paraphrasing, the developer commented Fractals could be enjoyed casually on a lunch break. Not so much now.

It’s funny that all the people asking for easy mode raid for the past year, are all here saying the fractal hard mode is too hard? Or all the people who were asking for 5 man raid because, what was hard was getting 10 people, not the raid itself?

Well here we are, with the same people saying the hard mode is too hard and that they don’t want fractals to be 5 man raids. If it’s too hard, do lower tiers, easy.

This is why I’m glad to see anet stick to their guns.

These arguments get bandied about all the time. Are you sure they’re the exact same posters? Got some quotes?

Designing game content that is first and foremost fun for as many players as possible – that sounds like something we should be saying to devs a lot more often.

+1 x10,000 if I could. The game was originally designed with this in mind, and I wish it had stayed that way.

And raids totally killed that aspect of the game because everything else is not playable anymore?

Have there been only raids in development since HoT?

Tyria maps are empty and not played as well as Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths and Dragon Stand (because a lot of people are raiding every day)?

There’s no new open world content every 2-3 months since one year?

I just want to go back to late 2012 when dungeons were en vogue; where I could play the game to the best of my abilities without being judged or lambasted, and earn some nice rewards for it. I miss pick up and play group content that lets me unwind after work and allows a mistake or two: unlike raids and what fractals are becoming. I want the game to be the MMO I bought; not the MOBA APM OHKO retina burning festival it has become.

Honestly, too many GROUPS are clearing with little knowledge of the fight.

But in the end, it’s mostly up to the COMMUNITY to make the community better. At best the devs can only reward you for being nice.

So making raids harder makes the community better? Is that what you are saying with so many words? How the kitten could that work out? If you make them harder, the division between raiders and non-raiders would be just greater. People would whine even more about elitism, many people would fall through the net because they simply lack the arcade skills and reaction time, or hand-brain coordination.

I see your intentions are good, but most people probably feel that making raids more accessible for players would help the community, that’s the opposite of your proposal. And I still don’t give a kitten what people from other games say.

Careful with that statement. Defending the disabled is a no-no in the post-HoT “community”.

Despite some longstanding issues, I think the game has improved significantly in the last year, especially with Season 3. That being said, PoF’s success will direct whether or not I continue spending money on it.

How would a refund work with the Ultimate Edition purchase? Would it remove those unlocked skins and items from your account? Remove the bonus gems as well? I’m curious.

I’ve never been one for fast paced, high octane games. Am I playing an RPG or Dance Mania Turbo Crisis? Theres a reason I don’t play arcade style games, I hate them.

Unless you’re panicking there’s nothing fast pace about this fractal.

It’s all slow highly telegraphed attacks that give you upwards of 3 seconds to react. Given the average reaction time of someone ages 18-25 is .25ms you have 12 times the that frame to work in.

I swear there’s been something off about telegraphs, or maybe it’s just me. Slow attacks always look like they trigger a half second before they’re supposed to.

Leave the damage Condition and Power

I would LOVE an answer from A.net why they are continually stomping Power Warriors into the ground while promoting this disgusting “Condi Meta” nonsense. We’ll never get a real answer though. It just doesn’t make ANY sense at all especially in the last patch that Power got nerfed again on Warrior… it was already in a bad spot but they decided to kick them again?

They really need to get their crap together and learn how to make both Power and Condition builds viable without trashing one or the other completely. It’s embarrassing.

If you want the hot new elite specs, you need to buy PoF.
If you want to gear (a lot of) those hot new elite specs (Viper’s) you need to buy HoT.
If you want to easily obtain Ascended Viper’s trinkets, then you need to buy Season 3.

That’s my best guess, anyways.

Vital Persistence nerf

in Necromancer

Posted by: Makai.3429

Makai.3429

I don’t think the 25% baseline is even close to enough compensation. There needs to be a full revert of all the trash trait changes like speed of shadows and relentless pursuit. With all the power creep even the old 50% was pretty inadequate in pvp, especially with shroud being our access to mobility/stability that is still weaker than almost every other class. The core class and reaper do not have to be destroyed to make room for a new elite spec.

Trait synergy with any trait procced on entering shroud was also pretty severely weakened as well.

Hopefully the issue won’t be swept under the rug, but it feels today’s change was just that.

It took me months to get used to my necro, to build him up, nourish his power and craft/grind a fitting set of ascended gear. The shroud build I used was a thing of pure beauty and joy for me. And now… u had to ruin it Anet. U had to cripple my necro in a way as if you had just crippled one of my beloved dogs. Like a heartless kitting sadist.

You ruined him… YOU RUINED HIM! kittenMIT!

I liked it a lot, too, because it was an easy, relaxed build, and innocuous in the grand scheme of things.

Please create an option for Colorblind mode

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Makai.3429

Makai.3429

This has been my dream since the game launched since I simply cannot see the semi-transparent red circles, especially on light colored backgrounds. HoT was mostly unplayable for this reason, and even encounters like Webby Mother in Draconis Mons are beyond frustrating.

Pillars of Eternity (a game made possible through Kickstarter) has a simple colorblind mode, which turns green/yellow indicators into blue. Even something as simple as an “enemy AoE color” option would be a step in the right direction.

Bumping this, because it’s really baffling to me that big expensive games still don’t take this relatively common condition into consideration. I’m not colourblind, but I find the visual clutter in the game quite overwhelming as it is, even only in normal 5-person groups, and I can’t imagine how much more difficult is must be for you folks.

Thank you for your compassion. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do T4 Fractals or Raids unless something is done to clean up the visual noise – didn’t Colin mention effects sliders before he left?
