I’ve spent 1500+ hours mostly running around the open world raising alts, and I pay for that by being poor as I do what I like, actually seeing the game world alive. I love this idea!!! Now I’ll be sad too if they don’t do it :/
The change to the zone is my favorite part, very pre/post sear ascalon…and i even heard post searing ascalon music when i was standing around. Gave me The Feels i tell ya. I don’t see how Kessex will ever be returned to how it was, but honestly that’s ok, it shows the Living Story really does have an impact on the world, and if you don’t tune in you miss out. There’s also the landscape changes where now there’s high ground and changed landscapes, and that one village where everyone but Webb died-they can’t just stand around again right? I really love that they did this!!
Finishing in PvE- i really like it. i assume zerker sheep might not like it because they’re vulnerable, but i think it is a nice plus to being a little defensive in your set up. Also makes those enemies a lot more interesting…it’s not a guarantee you’ll be able to finish one off in time, especially when their allies come over to help revive.
Also, the gem store armors are pretty sweet, at least female light and male heavy are. People have been complaining for more armors, and Anet delivered imo.
If this is the start of LS introducing a new skill with every patch…aka every two weeks…hallelujah that would be amazing and after a while we would get the skill diversity and GW1 style card game feel a lot of people pine for, but with it only being utilities would still be restricted from becoming too unbalanced and crazy
In most excited about what “toxin” could be, but yes, it’ll be nice to have a dedicated condition removal heal for a class like mesmer, or engi.
This update looks pretty promising in content, and possibly lore ramifications
When an ascended drops, I’m pretty sure you get a drop down box asking which you’d like. Or is that just for the inscription and you’re saying the weapon type is the missed-option..?
I don’t PvP much, and I know churning earth is near-useless there… But man is it fun in pve! Love dropping an earth glyph of storms while you charge up, and swapping attunements at the last second to get that fury bonus. Most satisfying skill in the game to land for sure
I’m currently in the process of working up a hammer build after leveling with sword… since I love confusion I’m going 20 into strength for runes of perplexity x 6… 30% longer confusion, 5 stacks of confusion on it, 3 stacks on hit 20% chance, short cool down. What this means is 9 stacks of confusion for over 10 seconds base for each interrupt, with no internal cool down. If you stunlock someone with 3 ints you’re at 25 stacks of confusion
The other weapon set was originally Mace/shield, but that was a little overboard on interrupt so now I’m trying out sword/shield. This changed my build to 20/20/30/0/0
20 in arms for longer bleeds and 50% Crit chance vs stunned (used for getting big hits for final thrust once they’re down below 50% and finishing them off)
30 in defense is obviously for merciless hammer, and cleansing ire, and I like missile deflection too
In PvP situations try to cover the confusion stacks with bleed and cripple
Utilities… Lots of ways to go, more ints for more confusion and cc, or stances for survivability
Crit on demand? Isn’t(wasn’t) that feature only for jaguars? Thieves have to get a grandmaster trait to guarantee a crit in stealth, And mesmer don’t have guaranteed crits in stealth. Besides safer barrages I a agree this change doesn’t really affect us offensively much
When I go there on crystal desert to get a few blood or scale, I ask in map chat “is anybody here?”…. I’ve yet to get a reply
Well of darkness with pve necro…actually any aoe blind field for any class lol
Its the one right below the broad hollow bluff a waypoint, but I’m not sure it’s accessible yet…I came on the forums to make a topic about this POI too. It was added with then recent sky pirates updates, and it might not be available until the jumping puzzle comes out
We knew exactly what to do, we just couldn’t stay alive well enough to be effective
Me and a group of experienced guildies all with over 1000 hours played and plenty of dungeon experience couldnt finish him off today, tried for over an hour. The wells he drops kill chances for clean revivals to get back to full strength.
It was pretty frustrating when his health went from about 30% to full instantly for some reason(no oozes were around)
We tried once to set all traps to full before triggering any, and we got him down to about 5% health but then we wiped, and by then we’d lost motivation to keep going, but that seems like the best choice
Plus, we have stability, you just didn’t trait for it. How’s that anets fault?
I used to love it in open world pve as I leveled using all conjures, back when Ice storm dealt confusion and not bleed. But, deep freeze is still a very good skill(longest stun in the game? Close to it anyway, plus lots of chill) and besides wrecking structures ice Storm is good dmg too
Even 500 isn’t that many with no ticket. They are really, really rare in coffers. I suspect there will be many posts coming in saying they’re in the 1000’s at least with no ticket. I’d say I’m about at 1k with no ticket, and it also took me 28 rich coffers to get one
I think it was modelled after Sin City, if you’ve seen it you know what I mean. Especially the black and white thing. I loved it though, it was very cool
This is what reasonable people do. But some people rush to complete the achievement as fast as humanly possible, pay the cost for it with waypoints, and then some complain about wp costs. There’s not really any way we can help them if they’re set on doing that
I like the idea a lot. I’m fine with the idea of attunement dancing, but sometimes I want to be like my GW1 ele and just go crazy with earth magic! The only pay I question is the passive start boosts on the way up to a full bar. Free crit damage and power and stuff? That’s not really fair. AFAIK no class gets stat bonuses like that for free
I remember
-scheduling my day(s) around an opportunity to play one hour of laggy gw2 in a stress test
-watching demo videos of sparkfly swamp, and teq
- black lion keys dropping in beta… And 1k free gems-> the joy of aviators on a charr
-power orbs in wvw
-not having “deposit all collectables”
-not having preview
-The bar for endurance being where conditions are, with no divider in between splitting it in 2 so you can tell when to dodge
Edit: when morale was high and there weren’t so many negative Nancy’s, who despite apparently despising everything about the game still go on the forums

Halloween gives rare skins, everybody wants one. Wintersday gives very easy weapons nobody likes them and they’re worthless. FaF gave rare skins and everybody wanted one. Southsun gave a very easy backpiece , which nobody got to excited for, and rare weapons which most people really wanted. Dragon bash gives rare weapons, which everyone wants. Common theme: the more rare the prize the more people want them
It’s not anet’s fault you establish the tend for them to adhere to
Side note: this event was the first time I’ve spent real money on anything game related in 10 months… Usually I buy as $60 game like once a month. Spending $30 in gems(got token 28 boxes in) is actually quite the savings, and if this had been a sub game, it would have cost me a whole lot more than 30 bucks for 1000 hours and 10 months of entertainment
Yeah I got the achievement having only placed above 3rd place . Bet at least 10 or so time, had 4 3rd places, and a first and got the achievement
I rarely get good things(exotics, or a lot of rates) from chests because I usually stop by with 3% magic find, and some guildies who use a lot seems to get quite a lot of exotics. I buy it
I want all of them, will probably get none :/
These look much better than sclerite imo
The sharks are a really good spot for scales, went from 22 to a full stack, but there’s no way you can make 50-140 gold a day. That’s absurd, I’ve been farming them since before the skelk. Also, getting 4 tickets has nothing to do with the spot, IMO it has to do with you being an exaggerater.
In my time farming there, I’d say you can expect to get about 10-12 scale before DR kicks in, maybe an hour? That’s just over 3g at 26s which isn’t even as high as they’re selling right now.
Compared to most classes, theif, mesmer, and Ele have more useful trait lines than most. So one or two traits are useless, try having entire lines of uselessness like a ranger, an entire selection of broken traits like an engineer. All I’m saying is that some of the Classes with the best traits like thieves, crying about the traits is completely ridiculous. And yes, I have thieves, ranger, necro, ele and engineer all over a hundred hours, and I have a mesmer too.
There’s some classes you have legitimate decisions to make, like thief with all 5 lines being useful, and there’s some classes like engineer you just get depressed trying to figure out good options
2 straight you got op, but you don’t fool me!
As a ranger I did it once for like 10 minutes, while I was eating chips and salsa at the computer haha. Got 2 t6 blood from it luckily so I have funny memory of it, but its obviously a dumb way to farm.
For the record I would be incredibly happy to get more than 3 or 5 skills per weapon, maybe able to swap out one skill for one from a second set of 3 or 5 would be cook for customization.
another thing to consider is that this limited skill system is a trademark of GW2, and was even moreso in GW1 where you went out into an instance of the zone with 8 skills total, never any more. now I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but we get 10 weapon skill, a heal (and most classes have a field of some type in one of their heals for more interesting combinations), then the 3 utilities and the elite. obvious, of course. but what i’m saying is, in GW1 with cooldowns AND energy and only 8 skills, you would usually only bring a few damaging skills, and a couple utility. since it was a group game you never brought a heal unless you were a monk really.
What i’m trying to say is that this is an improvement on what skill rotations used to be like. you stuck with one weapon type doing only 8 skills and for the most part one role in a group of 8.
ranger or necro
plague cloud can shut down a huge area, or a hard hitting boss or anything else, with blind(and constant chill for me with traits) for 20 seconds. the lich form is a good spike in PvE too, on a condition build with no spike.
ranger, entangle is like an i-win button(not talking pvp), especially if you then set traps on them. RaO puts out crazy damage for me and my jaguar when you do Barrage and Rapid fire. 25 stacks of might, then do all your damage boosts like sig wild and jaguar stealth, hello!
that was an intelligent post, thanks for the write up. However, and it may be my gw2 fanboy coming out, i have to disagree with some of it.
Specifically about everything and every class feeling the same. I’ve got an 80 of ranger, thief, ele, engi, and necro and i’ve got the other three classes on their way to 80 as well. The only time i’ve thought this is when i build characters who try to stack the same type of conditions like confusion, but what can you do, there’s only so many types.
With weapon skills, i think they did a great job staying unique. after all, you’re supposed to be able to watch your opponent and know what’s going on. Playing with the HUD off will help you to realize how much the combat is visual. seriously, try it. It’s awesome(easiest on an engi with 2 kits so something’s always off cooldown, btw). “same animations with different effects”: how many ways are there to swing a sword? the variety they’ve been able to get has been impressive to me. Example: ranger sword you’re doing flips and kicks and stuff in the auto attack
Each race even performs skills differently(from what i’ve heard), it’s not just how they hold the weapon. Like charr have less graceful leaps and such. Don’t quote me on this lol, i could have been wrong
And before i forget to address it, the thing i least agreed with was that weapons across different classes were mostly the same, ie swords and greatswords have flurry type skills. ranger-hellz no for both, their sword and greatsword very unique. and thief-no for sword, mesmer-no for greatsword it’s even ranged, guardian-no for greatsword, warrior-probably was the comparison. so in the end two other classes have a skill that is like a flurry of hits on either sword or GS, and in between that there are flavors like invulnerability, teleports, evades, etc which make them stand out for the class using them.

now, about the game being spam skills-> switch weapon, repeat…it sometimes seems this way, but when you’ve figured out a skill rotation with a class that works well, think about how you’re not really “spamming skills”, you’re doing that rotation for reasons that come from a dynamic skill system:
example: this is my “spamming” starting out each fight with my ranger. if things are done out of order, effectiveness goes down. start out with Longbow #3, combined with first strike the target now has 15 stacks of vulnerability. this makes my next skill rapid fire do more damage, and at the same time i activate my pet’s stealth so that his 6 seconds of critical hits land with the extra 15% damage boost from the vulnerability, and just as the target closes in, i’ll knock them back out with point blank shot. This gives me a 150% damage boost on my next skill, which i make sure goes to an ok-hitting skill swoop as i close the distance i’ve created. before/as they’er using their first skill of the fight, i use hilt bash to give my pet and i another 150% damage boost, which i now combine with my hardest hitting skill maul, and the damage goes from a 1200 hit to a 5k hit when it crits(70% crit dmg). as they’re recovering from stun i activate counterattack and wait for them to hit me, i block and attack back now down to only GS #1, which evades to make it stand out. at the end of the fight i’ve killed them quickly, and most times have 100% health if i dodge the one or two hits that can get through between the interrupts, knockbacks, blocks and evades.
after doing that combination against mobs over and over and over again, it starts to feel like spamming 3,2,4 ->switch to GS 3,5,2,4,1,1,1,11,1,1,1,1,1,1, but really it’s well thought out and takes advantage of how skills really are unique and the combo’s you can use in them.
Anyhow, this is some of my thoughts on why even though there’s a limited pool of skills, they do a good enough job keeping it fresh….hope you will try playing with no HUD, and it’ll open your eyes a little (makes for lots of screenshots too as you notice all the impressive landmarks and such around!)

Well, I’ve gotten SIX so far from regular loot drops, and only one was in a steel chest(which is used for exotics in place of a wooden chest). This sends conflicting results as to whether it really is exotic or not in RNG’s eyes. I’d have to lean toward no. All 6 were got with only 203% magic find…… BTW, sold the first for 11g when there were only 2 on the market
BTW, based on a dev post on these forums, it sounds like one person made this “dungeon”, and they never internally considered it a “dungeon”, but then it was marketed as one which pushed expectations high and set us up for all this disappointment.
I did it before the patch too,no reward, and now my group has tried 4 times and we can’t beat Noll since they added that electrolyze thing… We get him to about 5% health each time then we’re all dead. There should at least be some counter to it…
So take signet of stone with 30 in marksmanship. 6 second of Invulnerability with no , and instead of killing your pet he’s protected as well
I’ve got one of each class, and five 80s, but since I states going for kudzu for my main the others have fallen behind… I wish you could get T6 mats in any downscaled zone..
Ive also tried warrior and mesmer about 5 times each and I just can’t get to liking them that much.
Out of 900 hours played, only 303 on my “main”
You rob yourself of learning what works for you with that profession. Without the experimentation and trial and error on the way to 80, you’re going to be a level 80 noob. Like a Pokemon raised to 100 with rare candy lol
Stylized presentation like character creation, dungeons and orders would be amazing, those are my favorite. I don’t mind walls of text compared to nothing at all, but I want more presentations
What if that’s just a player character, hence the MF gauntlets. Yes, its a screenshot of the next stage which is hunting down canach, but that doesn’t mean its a screenshot of him. Not saying at all that I’m for sure right, but I’ll LOL if when we see him we realized how much we assumed and went wild with theories.
Sounds good to me. ATM I’ve heard to many horror stories, and I’m too cheap lol, to risk it with real money
I did the jumping puzzle early on in the patch before almost anyone even realized there was a sample there, and now I hate seeing all the ports.
To put it a less arrogant way, I stumbled through every second of the jumping puzzle and I’m so happy i didn’t port. I even made a friend midway through and we adventured to find the sample when nobody knew where it was.
It was the most fulfilling thing I’ve done on South sun yet, and people are robbing themselves of a great experience by porting.
It’s actually a good thing. I’ve been using LB for a while, so I fire off my hunters shot while out of range and walking forward, and it hits. Means I have like 1550 range or something lol. If you’re firing down from higher ground you can also hit things that are “out of range”
I got 7 crates in one night of farming skelk( wasn’t going for crates). As far as I can tell, DR is cyclical. It seems to go away for a few minutes, and in that window is when all the good stuff comes. Then it kicks back in and you won’t get much until it goes away again.
personally I think the difficulty is perfect. makes it worthwhile when you use a defensive build/trait in pve. So many people waltz around in zerker gear, its good to actually have dangerous fights. Every class can be defensive, try it some time
There’s that guarded gate leading that way in field of ruin. Be patient, pretty sure it’s coming ( maybe in an expansion though, seems a bit big for living story)
If I had to guess a timeframe, I’d say….not anytime soon since they’re working on getting the core world as good as it can get
Its not grinding if you accomplish things just by playing. I probably shouldn’t have phrased it like that, I only did because legendaries require a lot of supplies. Say he goes around helping others, while doing that be makes money, with that money he buys things for his legendary. That’s a hell of a lot different than running pent/shelter/jofast/ cof1.
Its funny that people pick apart semantics in posts, and assume the person is clueless.
After 2500 hours I’m pretty sure he knows what orr bosses give what, and I’ll bet you “getting stomped” doesn’t refer gonna inability to do well himself, rather his server.
On topic: come up with as ,any builds as you can for your , even if they’re not meant to be min/max builds, just something that’s interesting and fun.
Other than that, probably all that’s left is grinding for more legendaries or helping out other people with your most fun class to play
Also, work on completing achievements. After 2500 hours you’re probably pretty far along.
Go for a mini collection?
(edited by Malleus Maleficarum.2603)
Give it to a tamable skelk! And it’d be a corruption of the boon, not just a strip
You’re upset that a story telling method (living story) that’s going to be unfolding over an extended amount of time hasn’t yet significantly changed the world? It just started! That’s like dissing a book 30 pages in for having no conflict or real ending. Give it some time, geez
