I asked a question about Sayeh a few months back. Angel said they’re holding lore and stories about her in pocket for possible future release. So there is a chance we’ll see more about her and the largos. Another thing that makes it very likely is that DSD, and so far the Largos are the only race capable to be a value (living in the water) to the 5 alliance races. We’ll also need a big underwater skill, weapon and combat makeover. There is a big thread about them. All of the reason why they could be playable and all of the reasons why they might not be has been talked about. I will look it up and post it here.
ok Redead I have your answer, the reason why it asks when changing dyes is bc you can flip between armor tab and dye tab. So if you are changing armor and flip to the dye tab you can look at how the colors would look before you waste charges. It would show a charge in that case and it’s really not hard to understand it.
It also doesn’t matter if you have to click to accept a zero charge when just changing dyes, it’s built for the reason I just explained. It’s not that big of a deal Red :P
Apparently this is going to happen randomly through out the day when you zone…Highly annoying
I agree, this is annoying. I would not mind as much if it didn’t affect my characters.
I’ve always had a feeling that many MMO’ers needed to get a sense of humor and go outside once in a while, but this is pretty clear evidence.
Humor is subjective, to say someone needs a sense of humor bc they don’t find funny what you do proves you don’t understand that point.
I think it’s only 10 mins out of the hour, log out and back in it should be normal. It will be a bit of a pain to restart game for a whole day, but at least it’s not 24 hours strait.
I can see how it would be funny at first, but after the OMG effect wears off it’d just be stupid. Good for a laugh for some people, nothing more. I hope set up so that when people log in they will see it and if they like it have a laugh, for me however I saw it and want it to BE GONE.
Oh good it’s not 24 hours long , I can log back in now and play
I am personally already sick of having to stare at a bobble-head after five minutes. It’s already affecting game play and it’s annoying enough I refuse to play. It would have been fine if camping out fixed it. But it doesn’t.
Lol how exactly does it affect your game play? If it bothers you so much, don’t play until Wednesday…
That’s basically what he said! He said he reused to play until this ends.
Mine hit at 1015 pm not midnight.
They should have given an option to use this…. Personally I find it annoying and it has made me RAGE QUIT. Not fun in my opinion.
~24 hours from now, it’ll be like it never happened.
don’t have unlimited time to play. makes my complaint worth while.
Same, I don’t like them messing up the characters I made, I don’t find it fun.
I don’t like it as well I refuse to play like this. It should be optional (even for a day)
My guess May or June. It won’t be as long and strung out of season 1 was (with one story arc)
Tsuru Whitewing is just a rare, whereas Largos is an exotic:P Confirmed Tsuru as a rep for Tengu, confirmed Largos as a playable race. (Largos rep is Sayeh al’Rajihd)
Part of the development process is prioritization, so I’d like to know what you feel are the highest impact items you think would improve our storytelling delivery. What are your top three requests?
My one request has less to do with the story itself but with the implementation in the game.
Merge the personal story with the living story.
- Core story events should take place in an instance that remains permanently.
- Keep the temporary zerg events in the open world.
- New entries should be added to the “My Story” tab in the character menu.
- Newly created characters can play through the instances in order.
They are working on the ability to replay old/missed events, I assume it would be done in an instance and it should scale. If I go in alone I can beat it alone, if I go in with a group of 3 it will still be a reasonable challenge.
I applaud the OP (and agree with most of what he said, especially the ‘Lieutenants are the lifeblood of an organisation’ section, which put into words what I’d been thinking myself). Applaud the devs who have taken notice too.
I really don’t like how the characters have been developed. The obvious lesbian relationships being pushed in our faces again and again…
…Getting a bit sick of it. We need another style of writing to balance this feminist stuff.
Hrmm, I wonder why nobody ever says that kind of stuff when a game features a heavily pro-Male ratio, or “obvious hetero relationships”. You know… like the majority of other games.
As a woman with some pretty strong opinions on the representation of women in games myself… honestly, I have to agree with Thobek. Just because Angel McCoy is a woman writer who writes women does not make her good at writing women, and the characters she set up (who might well have changed hands a few times as the Living Story went on, if what was implied in the story of Hero-Tron’s development is true and there are different writers for each step even if the same characters are involved) became grating caricatures of themselves as the story went on.
It is no better to have a bunch of verbally abusive cardboard women sitting around taking jabs at an injured man than it is to have wallflower princesses being rescued by burly manly-man barbarians. It just reinforces the very same sexist principle either way: you are nice and pretty and helpless, or you are a powerful but entirely unlovable harpy; you cannot be both appealing and strong. And don’t even get me started on Scarlet: the ultimate woman on a pedestal, in many cases literally shouting down at the players from her place on high, separate and exalted— the only difference is that she’s exalted as a perfect villain and not as a perfect sex object.
Speaking of sex objects, Kasmeer and Marjory used to have at least some personality, but now they’re entirely eclipsed by their own sexualities. Compare them to Caithe, who is also largely defined by a lesbian relationship but whose character is enriched by that relationship as it provides conflict and a force that causes her character to grow and change.
It’s naive to think that simply writing about women is always going to be a good thing for women. The Taming of the Shrew is centered on a woman, and has plenty of female characters, but it’s hardly a huge victory for feminism! (Depending on your interpretation and staging of the final scene… but overall, definitely not something that advances women, hm?) In order for a story to have merit and not just be “feminist stuff,” it needs to be written so that it actually gets the point across, and doesn’t unintentionally communicate an entirely different and entirely counterproductive point— like “lesbians are lesbians first and people second, empowered women are mean, women belong on a pedestal”… and that’s JUST from the Battle for Lion’s Arch part of the story!
We need less “feminist stuff” and more women who are actually strong, both as characters and as people.
Caithe and her former partner are very well defined characters, I like them both very much as well as their story.
I agree with what you said about Marjory and Kasmeer. They could be great characters someday but not yet, they’re still rather flat.
All dragon fights should be permanent, Anet is working on the ability to replay old/missed LS updates (hope in time for season 2). This would make it fine for dragons to be in LS. No one thinks or suggested that dragons should be temporary.
Awesome post! Yes do not tell stories out of the game, that’s really bad… and involve PS with LS, and PLEASE don’t forget the Largos!
I’ve been trying and trying to get that Largos mini, I guess I will just have to buy it. Anyway I see a lot of support for the Largos, I’m sure they will be used and playable at some point.
If what the OP suggested happened and those plots were the 2 week LS cycle I would be very happy.
It would be good to keep both if Anet is proactive in building on the PS as well as the LS. When a player is done or not interested in the one or the other they still would have something to do, although for this to happen it would mean a slow down in releases. I did hear something about Anet doing bigger releases over a longer block of time, (not every two weeks) over this next year.
Greetings and salutations.
I come to you today with a comment about the Living Story’s direction, though I know those are in abundance these days. What I’d like to do is hopefully a bit different. I would like to describe what the game would need to do in order to smoothly transition back to the war against the dragons. At present, that is impossible due to an incompatibility between players starting the Personal Story and those who have finished it, and conundrum which can be solved in a single sentence.
To make the Living Story flourish, the Pact must be destroyed.
…Bit of an attention getter, I hope. Allow me to spell on the argument; why the personal story has impersonal problems, what the living story is currently doing wrong, how to fix the two to the benefit of both, and what the results could be for an entire year’s worth of content. I can be a bit overly verbose, so I’ve condensed them into four JPG files for easier reading. Feel free to skip through it if it drags on, but please scroll through the NextYear file to consider what the Living Story could become.
Here we go. The Time Capsule method.
Edit: I’ve been adding to this post slowly throughout the thread, including several new campaign possibilities. For the sake of organization, I’ve added them on to this post. If this is your first time reading this, please beware, the last three images will get extremely verbose. Bring a glass of tea.
I remember the last time you posted this, I agreed with it and I still agree, it does look great and something that many people would be exited to see. I think the LS and PS can exist, although I have my own changes I would like to see happen to them.
The dragon should be a part of the living story. With the talked about ability to revisit old events (Anet in favor of) and making the dragon fight permanent, it should work fine.
The personal story should be about personal character development. Say I wanted to be a Priestess of Lyssa, would that be possible? Start off with a small number of branches that individualize the characters in their own story. When a satisfying number is reached add expansions on the different stories. This is how the personal story should feel (at least to me). This is just an example, the point is it should be about the players character (as it was lvl 3-20) not about a dragon. A good personal that expands based on the choices we make (as some of it already does mid story) would be great. Talbyt was a great example of PS that people loved and missed when he was gone. (messed his named up sorry)
What isn’t cool, though, is that some players will never be able to experience taking down these dragons if they’re only available in the living story. Three years from now, two or more dragons could be wiped out: and a new player is now in the fight for a third.
What about those who want to play the hologram fight again? Marionette? Or just see the story of it all?
That’s why the dragon fights are permanent, exactly as I said in my post. New players will always be able to fight every dragon after they are released.
1 No more exclusive social media lore pieces, if it goes up outside the game it should also be put into the game. I am not a fan of the way it currently is and I would really like to see it changed, perhaps have a section on the hero panel for short stories and such.
2 More stand alone pieces, not everything has to be tied together by a flimsy thread creating a convoluted mess of a story, one of the best updates we had was Bazaar of the Four Winds and that was essentially a story on it’s own. Do not be afraid to leave something as a mystery, give us events that are part of different stories, make the whole world come alive, not just things that revolve around one character.
3 Less temporary more permanent content, the reasoning behind this is obvious and I know it is much requested already.
I really appreciate the effort you guys do with the Living Story, but it does need a lot of work. So long as you really do take the OP’s post to heart then you can not go wrong.
This is what I had in mind as well. Also I would like to add one of my own.The dragon should be a part of the living story. With the talked about ability to revisit old events (Anet in favor of) and making the dragon fight permanent it should work fine.
The personal story should be about personal character development. Say I wanted to be a Priestess of Lyssa, would that be possible? Another thing I support is building on the lore you have. Create stories with the Mursaat, White Mantle, Jotun or I liked the idea of Lady Glaive and her ghost ship causing havoc.

In this last update they tease us with the dialogue such as the lay lines are like an ocean and that waves were sent to feed the dragon.
If there were new races to be added into the game, I’d probably say Tengu, Kodan then Largos, in that order of probability.
Tengu first because they’ve been selected as a probable race by devs in the past, already have a strong lore foundation, have a city that’s easily workable into the current world, can be easily customised and are a land-dwelling race.
Kodan next, because for the same reasons above, excepting that they’ve just been newly introduced into the lore.
Largos third, because they don’t really have any of the points above, but their only saving grace is that they look kittenly cool.
Of course, ANet, being the creators of the game, have their own ideas of what’s workable or not into the game, so who’s to say? :p
The largos are newly intro’ed into the lore.

These should be used to help build guild halls, it would be kinda cool if the guild had to pull together and build it using all crafting skills.

Another reason is having Zhatian at the end of PS under cuts the importance of LS and the focus of LS for over a year under cuts the importance of PS. I don’t think it will be like that again. I would like the main villain to be a part of the LS, only once it has built up to it keep that fight on permanently with the ability to go back and look at the events leading up to that fight. (Anet already seems to be in favor of the ability to go back and watch old events) But as I said I think having the setup as it was in season one weakens both LS and PS. Each to their own I guess.

There needs to be a story that builds to him yes, but I would rather see it in LS not PS. If Scarlet was a Dragon Champion that we’ve been fighting it would be confusing to go and make the rest of it in a PS. Just keep using the LS for stuff that involves everyone (the world) and leave the PS for a good personal story not involving the rest of the world(as a whole) and not leading to that at all.

I really hope Mordromoth isn’t a villain in a living story because all the players who join later in the game wont be able to fight him. He would be used best as a continuation of the personal story since at the end they say the will be going after the rest fo the dragons.
Even if it was part of LS it would not be that hard to make it a permanent dungeon, all dragon fights should always be available once they’re released.

I hope it wasn’t Bubbles. Underwater combat is atrocious and I don’t want new underwater content until they revamp that entire mechanic.
I was hoping that we’d get the manta people, complete with 2-3 zones which are entirely underwater. Seriously.
No one likes underwater zones or levels, no one
It would be nice if they put more work into it, skills, weapons and armor just for underwater. Some of that is already in place but not nearly enough. They will have to make some changes when we fight bubbles.

Lol, and it looks like your going the wrong way with this thread too. It would be better just to delete this thread and eat your own mistakes. Yes green star is PS and yellow star is LS. Now it would be nice if Anet would allow us to turn one or both off, but it’s really not Anet’s fault it’s yours bc you should know that, it’s on you for not knowing it.
Make a ticket and ask for an account rollback to undo this mistake. :P
Although it should be the title for a few LS combined, not just for one LS. That is a big title and should be treated as such. I liked this LS but I don’t think the struggle was enough so that we would have such a title. Maybe after we defeat whatever Scarlet digs up and once we do it would be great to have such a title.
Support this idea
Anyone I saw AFK usually ended up dead….there did not seem to be many safe spots in LA….
Yes sometimes mobs will run up to the spawn points. I find that caves in waterfalls are a safe spot, or if you can get up on some rocks where you wont argo mobs.
that’s why you just check back and move around a little and go “AFK” again. Most people really are not away from keyboard they just are not doing anything. Maybe looking at something else. I think what OP wants is to kick people who get group effort rewards for doing nothing to help, and while I write this I am “AFK” getting group effort rewards (No Bots)
2/21/14 10AM-11AM PST did not receive group effort bags for 100,300 and 600 citizens rescued, as well as everyone on the map. Main server, TC.
I like the armor (and the blue), and I will buy all 3 sets tomorrow. I do wish the blue could be changed when I want a diff color.
It’s a good one
Here’s mine, thanks CC Dancia I wanted you and the others to come down in front of the lion, but you logged out right before I I ask for you to come down.
What happened? I’m on TC and nothing happened to me for the last few hours.
Not going to happen. Dyes wont be worth anything on TB so what good would those who who bought more than get the extra ones back. Everyone would want the gold they spent on them to be returned, that is the only way this will be acceptable.
Let me change my question to make it more NPC related.
What are your thoughts on Sayeh al’Rajihd?
Will she be further involved with the other races and expand on the closely guarded secrets of the Largos (the lore)?
The honor of dept being repaid was the reason Sayeh al’Rajihd aided Trahearne and if I can recall we aided a Largos in Southsun during the early part of this season.
Can we expect this aid (or if we get to aid them in the future) to advance the relationship of the playable races with the Largos?
What exactly was it that caused Sayeh al’Rajihd and Trahearne to join forces? (the first time they met)
Largos I hope will be added. I think their sense of debt payment will be a major factor of why they join the other races when we fight Bubbles.
Will the Largos role in the world be expanded upon in the future?
Is there a chance we could see vanity mounts (no speed increase) in the gem store or as a reward? I really want my Goddess to ride a cloud
I know a lot of people want more of the lore in game, and I also saw a lot of people wanting order missions. I think putting lore in to order missions would be a great way to tell the history and future of the game.
I would also like new skills for weapons we have.
I think more can be done with dyes as well, such as adding effects to armor.
To me the LS and LW are the same thing, I saw someone say it was very different to them. I would like to know how it’s very different.
To me, Living Story content is the one-use limited time content, advancing a plot across multiple regions/maps and expiring after a limited period. It is character focused, can take advantage of both episodic and serialized storytelling techniques, and can chain together activities and rewards to give a grand, sweeping feel.
Living World content is material that adds to the permanent pool, increasing the richness of an area or activity forever, but not necessarily able to evoke the same sort of urgency or “I was there when…” war-stories associated with Living Story episodes. Its components are often strictly episodic and quite a bit more localized in their impact. Intimate rather than grand in many cases. Something to stumble over or work out for yourself rather than referencing an online guide since there is no particular time pressure, and something you later bring to friends and guildmates and ask “so, have you seen this?”
It’s the difference between the Molten Alliance dungeon in its original, limited-run incarnations, and a new fractal that will be part of the roster forever. Both have value and specific advantages. I just feel some 2 week releases should be dedicated to Living World Releases, and in particular to releases that are designed to function enjoyably after the novelty has worn off. Plus living World Releases create opportunities for foreshadowing LS releases, building the drama/tension.
Both could take the focus of a 2-week release, but they contribute to the overall experience very differently. So I keep them separate in my head and in my posts.
Ah so LS is here today and gone tomorrow whereas LW has changed the landscape or character beyond that episode.
If villains and heroes had a few episodes out of the year in LW/LS(using different parts of lore of GW2 would need different villains/heroes that are connected to that bit of lore) and returned at a later date, old players would need to get them self refreshed on that character’s past deeds. People in this thread have talked about the need to replay old episodes and I think it would fit great. It would be nice to decide if we wanted to play a short “key points” only or the full story with out the weapons and goodies that came with the live update (as already stated). Not only would players who missed an update or are new to the game, but players needing to be refreshed on a character would use it.
To me the LS and LW are the same thing, I saw someone say it was very different to them. I would like to know how it’s very different.
Bobby,
I didnt have a respond to this yet and I think it is highly important. yo usaid that scarlet’S story was going too ‘slow’?
I posted earlier and disagree with that.
I think the issue many people have with scarlet (I’m a fan btw) is the amount off teasers in the content combined with the slow realease.I think that if people could read /play/watch the story in one go and one breath it would be an awesome story. But due to the way content is delivered the story gets fragmented. I use earlier the example off Harry Potter. the villain off the sotry is Voldemort, You know he is the villain from chapter one. You get explained why he is bad in book 1. After that he is always there, but there are side story’s. In my opinion thats how the living story should go. An arch-villain like scarlet should be introduced fully during a single release (1 month). then the story develops and we learn more bout her plans (but know who she is and her character).
I think the bottom line is that when writing, you forgot we see and experience things in a different timeframe then you wrote it.
Do you agree with that thats the core mistake on scarlet?Lost (tv-show) was very good. But it lost many viewers cause the real plot dragged too long. I loved the philosophical mysteries, but I understand that people want to live through the story faster. The same goes for the LV.
The plots dragging on too long and it losing it’s value is something I tied to point out, and I pointed out that they should have moved through Scarlet’s story faster and moved on to something else whatever they wanted to make. BTW Voldemort equals the elder dragons not Scarlet.
