“and can not be on land for long periods of time” I’ve never heard them say this. If you can point to where i can see it show me.
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
People also need to realize that the world do not trust Largos, hell most of the world don’t even realize they exist, Largos are aquatic creatures and there for can not be on land for long periods of time. That mask they wear keeps them from dying when they are on land. They are assassins, that is how the race is raised from childhood, they are un trusting of other races, this is explained if you just listen to what the Largos has to say in personal story line.
If allied races had to kill bubbles Largos would be forced to trust other races and would be in debt to them for killing it. If you know about Largos debt they hold it in high standing. Maybe they’re not very trusting at the moment, but when we meet most Largo they we are forced to ally. The other races are forced to ally to fight the dragons. The Asura when they came out of their caves were not trusted or did not trust others.
The largos are affected by Bubbles but no one knows how much, and just because they allied races kill bubbles doesn’t mean they are doing it for the largos. Look I am not saying they wont be a race or shouldn’t be, it is just that as a playable race how do you explain and put into mechanics the fact they need water. Even now in our Personal story line the Main NPC largos is never really out of the water for long, just long enough to say a few things and back in. Trust can always be earned, but making a playable race under forced means is a bad way to introduce them, and you would have to be able to force every Largos in that matter, as there may be some that when bubbles arises that are not affected by him. So what you have is mainly racial restrictions on the fact they are not land based creatures or a race of people, and it wouldn’t make much sense as the lore of them stands right now to magically turn around and say well since you can play them you can walk on land all you want and never worry about why the others can’t for an excessive amount of time.
At that point in time as per lore and what they have set up thus far you can make the Krait a playable race as people trust the Krait as much as they trust the Largos. When the bubbles expansion is release I have no doubt that we will see more of the largos, just not really sure if they would make a good race to play as per their restrictions
I would think to be playable they would be like humans breathing underwater. I don’t see this point of the Largos being different. If they were able to be playable they would be able to be out of the water. Anet already did something to that effect for the playable races already.

Yes it would have to be a racial with a cool down. It has been thought of and talked about. Here I will re-link this so you can read about that stuff. I have not really seen anyone bring up anything that has not been already talked about.
“They are capable of becoming invisible as they hunt their prey or scout their area.” That’s wiki says about their stealth. That could be made into a skill and for lore there would not be a timer on it, but for game play there would have to be. You will find that with many races that the lore is a little bit different from game play of the same race.
A Norn in their lore can run around as a bear all day if they wanted to there’s no timer on it, for game play there has to be a timer.

Largos need a redesign. Then we can possibly start considering things like a new race without Anet losing their credibility.
Sad thing is the concept art was ok, but that’s because it was a concept art, it just couldn’t fit in the game.
Yes, I could not agree more that placeholders need to be worked on, but they’re being intro’d to us and Anet isn’t ready to do anything more with them, yet. It’s likely they were thought up to complement the underwater zones. The underwater zones were completed late in the development of the game, and depending on how late,(which would explain the little info we have on them so far) they would not have had much time to work on their models or story. So they put 9 in the game and made their models good enough for the time being, while focusing on what was needed for the game to be launched.
I can believe they will be a playable race at some point. I think their best chance is when we have to fight the DSD.
I think an underwater playable race is very likely (based on Anet’s goals) and the only race that could do that would be the Largos. But I would like to know why you think they would be better as an NPC race?

Story hooks for GW2’s future. Oh, yes he/she is a Largos playable race supporter.

I think dragons scale to 100
most of the time when someone gets banned they have someone they don’t know about logging in on their account. If you just send 200 g in the mail I don’t think they would do anything.
you can still post, they could ban you from the forms if you get too many.
I would suggest a party structure like those in instances – if you leave or are kicked out of the party, you’re booted out of the server you’re guesting on and you automatically go back to your home server, in the same spot you were when you left. This means that you nominate your guesting servers at log-in as normal, but then you get the “Join x in x” when you right-click their name, which THEN enables you to guest with them.
What happens if someone discons.? I assume they could be invited right back when they get back on. But they should be able to guest with their friends for any reason, not just for an event. Even if it’s just to hang out in a group.
I also think that Anet should be able to track who jumps from server to server everyday. That would be a warning that they’re farming world bosses. And who would need more than 5 world jumps a day? No one that’s just playing the game, even if you’re going to play with friends you’re not going to even need 5 most likely.
I was against all of this guesting is causing problems until I read this.
“It came to my attention that the reason so many people were there was due to GUESTING, which is already being abused as people are just switching servers all day to farm these events”.
If they are doing this I agree a fix somehow is needed. I don’t think they should not get awards for guesting. I think they need to be invited and stay with their friends who invited them. Kinda like if a friend lvls u up so you can play together, but if you leave them you will go back to your lvl. So they can only get rewards if they are with who ever invited them. If they are not with their friends they can’t get world boss rewards.
That alone would make sure people can still play with their friends, get rewards, but stop people going from many of the servers. It still might be able to get around it by farmers being friends and inviting eachother, but it would make them have to plan and do more work and stick together to get it all done. Only people are on their home server can invite people. It might cut back on it (perhaps not all of it), at least enough so it might not be such a big problem any more.
A hairless Skritt lost his precious?
Here I dug this up for you.

This is where Anet says they can’t give out laurels. I guess it would apply to everyone.
They wont give it back, you just have do it again. Sorry but that’s what they’re going to say.
no, if this is a problem make sure you log out when you leave ur PC.
you just got more we had 5 that we had to do and how we can pick 5 from 9. People need to stop making it hard on them self and saying it’s the games fault. All of them are easy if you know how to get it done.
here’s a good thread to read about Largos.
took me 50 minutes to do those 5. Yes it was easy.
I still don’t understand why people have such a problem with a minor thing like spending 15 mins in another zone to get one of the daily’s done. It’s not the events that are hard, it’s you making hard on your self!
I have now Krytan killer, condition applier (those two go together) daily events can add it on two the other 2 if i try. the only odds are the aquatic slayer and the gatherer. But i will be done in about 40-50 minutes, not hard at all.
Also most of the time you will find that a few of them can be done while doing others. Like 25 kills in the Norn Area also counts for 50 kills world wide. If you know how to pick ur daily and want to get it done pick the ones you can do on top of the others. Be smart about it. The only time I would pick to do them one by one would be if im already there.
Once again, it’s a choice. If you care you will complete them. If you don’t care enough you won’t. You don’t need laurels, you want them.
Except the game is more then just “needs” vs “wants”. It’s about fun.
And to have to choose between your own rhythm and making progress in the game is not fun.To be forced into unfun choices. Is that how you think Arena Net wants this game to be?
I certainly hope not.The “you don’t need it, you want it” argument follows the ridiculous expectation that everyone is always self-aware, always in control, and can’t be manipulated. This is total BS.
I was already in the Norn area so i did that one, 25 kills i think it was. To compliment that I took 50 kills, that would bring me closer to lvling so i got that. The other 2 were crafting and gathering. Not hard at all.
Yeah, that’s fantastic for you. But what if you weren’t in the Norn area and wanted to work on something else (explore some other map) besides go to Wayfarer Foothills?
“Well then, tough.” Right?
That’s what I don’t like about the current system.
I’m sorry but not all choices in the game would be fun for everyone. If you wanted to explore another zone then it’s all on you that you chose not to do spend 15 minutes in WF zone getting it done. There’s no problem with that bc you made the choice not to do it.

It’s fine the way it is , I don’t see the problem. “Ascalonian Killer” if you don’t want it don’t do it. People are making this out to be bigger then it really is.
legendary weapons will always match the highest lvl of weapons that wont change.
For this i had lvl, 50 kills, gather, craft, and I had to kill i think 25 in the Norn area where i already was. It’s not had to get done.
I’m on TC I never have been put in an overflow on any zone no matter where I go. I have been in alot of Behemoth fights. I believe the OP is putting more into it then it’s worth. LA is a different story.
Most Likely (and my personal wishes):
1. Tengu: Way too much potential and context to not be. Plus, an avian race is pretty cool. The fact that they were originally going to be playable also gives them momentum.
Problems: Their “blocked off area” is barely large enough to hold one city, let alone a whole starting area as well. I guess they could share Caledon forest and Kessex hills, but that doesn’t seem fair to this new race. Anet would have to change existing land or add new, illogical land (like they did with Southsun Cove)2. The Largos: Humanoid models make them easier to code for. They’re very interesting and have a lot to work with. The little info we have on them ends up making them EASIER to add, since they don’t have to shoehorn them into a random, previously unheard of area. They also make sense to add in a Deep Sea Dragon expansion. Plus: mostly or entirely aquatic starting zone=awesome.
Problems: As said by others, they’re supposed to be heavy isolationists. It would be weird to see hundreds of them running across Tyria if it wasn’t explained.3.Kodan: Polar bear people! My personal number one choice, but they’re lower because they’re less likely. They’ve got a cool settlement design, cool culture, and interesting outlook on life (even if I don’t agree with it). Also, statements that they’re not customizable make no sense. All Largos and Tengu have basically identical models as well, but I don’t see anyone bringing THAT up. We would still probably be able to change skin(fur?) tone from white to a light yellow or light gray, plus all body, face, and accessory customizations. We could also have teeth and claws to customize as well. They’ve also been shown to have fur paintings/tattoos on them in concept art, so that would add another layer of customization. We all also love the look of their sanctuaries, wouldn’t it be cool to see a full city on one? Finally: they were apparently supposed to be much larger before release, as the Snowden Drifts loading screen indicates. Why would the devs scale them down to Norn size, if not to make them possibly playable?
Problems: Only problem I can think of is finding them a home. All known sanctuaries are either under attack or too small. They could have one near the Woodland Cascades, but that would ruin the snow/ice theme unless they made part of the woods snowy or chilly. Still, only a minor obstacle.
Races that probably won’t happen
-Quaggen(models too weird to work)
-Centaurs(see above)
-Skritt (to frequently fought as enemy race0
-Dredge (see above)
One point about the Largos. If we can remember the Asura were isolationists before they were forced out of their caves. Is it weird to see a lot of Asura running around?
Anet took care of that problem already with the Asura. Why would it be a problem with the Largos where they have more freedom to decide what they want to do with them still being an unknown race?
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
Well I did hear the Mursaat will return in GW2, but exactly how I don’t know, just that they still have more to be told about them.
Centaurs have been shown as major characters since Prophecies, playable since Nightfall. The entire Sylvari race was created by a centaur. They didn’t like humans too much in Prophecies, but neither did Charr or Tengu.
Veldrunner and Maguuma Centaurs are perfect candidates for playable races to be added when either Elona or the Maguuma Jungle are added respectively. As for conflict with the current Modniir lead Centaurs that are enemies, it would make just as much sense as the huge number of Human, Norn, Charr, Asura, and Sylvari I kill every day as it is.
The playable races, including heroes and henchmen in GW1 were, in chronological order:
Human, Tengu, Wallow, Centaur, Dwarf, Asura, Char, Norn.Wallows are animals. Dwarves have been purposely avoided. Human, Dwarf, Asura, and Norn exist. Tengu and Centaur are next.
I would like to see a centaur try to swim, it would be good for a laugh, But no I don’t believe centaurs will be playable. How would they swim? how would armor fit on them. I can’t see a centaur do any of those. They don’t even have armor on the feet, legs or back side meaning Anet has not taken the time to do any of that. They are very unlikely to be playable.
Oh, but they do have armor already made up for them.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zhed_Shadowhoof/Armor_gallery
As for swimming, basically they would be running underwater. However it would take a large rewrite to make all the armor fit them and I can see the Devs not wanting to take the time to do it.
And that’s why it would be good for a laugh. :P
As well as the thought of a Centaur trying to ride the broom mount.
considering the tengu border lions arch and dredge escaped slavery and are becoming smarter on how the world works.. largos isnt really a smart idea to go with as a playable race.
for that matter, what about dwarves? (yeah, yeah, dwarves every game, i get it)
The top 3 are Tengu, Largos and Kodan, that wont change until we hear one way or another and I don’t think that will happen anytime soon. All of the top 3 have had reasons given that might make it likely that they could be playable, most people seem to accept those reason that have already been talked about. The Dwarves I haven’t heard a reason for or against.
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
I don’t see a problem, in every update no matter how they fix it people will be kitten off for some reason that never fails. It all comes down to what people personally want and expect if that doesn’t match what Anet is doing they will complain.
Look at the pic on this page, you can see the back of the wings are the same this was in Aug.
So u can’t do them anyway, even if they were weekly it would have to make up for 7 days which means it would take longer. Sorry but it looks like you only have time to play on the off season if you want to get anything done. Some people just need to tell them self they don’t have time to play (if they really don’t have time) and stop trying to direct the game to meet ur needs when you only have 30 mins to play a week. Anyway good luck and hope you find sometime to play.
how much are you able to log on per week?
It’s fine the way it is Nels, and I believe they will add more to chose from as times goes on, that’s the way it should be. If you don’t like it don’t do it, or balance with the rest of ur life like all of us do. I see you on here posting a lot why not use that time to get you’re daily done? You have time to do it if you have time to spend an hour here posting on the forums. So don’t give us you don’t have time, you’ve been posting here for at least an hour.
I thinks Nels would just like to have it handed to him when he logs in based on what he said. It should take more than “7 minutes or under”.
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
it was 5 things, I don’t remember it being 4.
It was four at the start of the game. You obviously weren’t around.
The problem with the new system isn’t that it’s not possible to do, it’s just not possible to do in under 7 minutes anymore, and that’s just stupid.
I was around from day one, I remember it always being 5. It’s should take about 30 mins-1 hour to do. That’s not too much to ask. I didn’t do it too much to start off with.
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
it was 5 things, I don’t remember it being 4.
Great pics I took some too just a few minutes ago when i went to go see it for my self, but there were 4 others that joined in (He lost). Maybe they’re adding little by little? working on them on the side for when they’re ready to expand on it.
They’re all easy, I had it done with in 1 hour. I don’t why people have such a problem with it.
“Tethys was a Titan sea goddess” " could the “Concordat of the Tethyos Houses” have something lore wise to do with a Titan?

Oh yes BTW, they will have to do some overhauls on the underwater zones. Unless of course they think it’s ready for a fight with Bubbles?? But I doubt it, I think they will need it. If the Largos had any chance to be playable it would most likely be at that time. They may be Anets way to highlight underwater zones for the reason of Anet wanting underwater to be equal to the content on land. John Sharp said to expect the full amount of content underwater, and the Largos stand out to re-enforce that idea in my mind(I think that is the main reason for them to be intro’d). To have an underwater starting area, city and race would do a lot to make it equal. I can’t see any other underwater race being able to fill that roll.
(edited by Midnight Gypsy.9360)
- Largos: I’ve made a few arguments before in support of these guys, and as far as I’m concerned, nothing much has changed. I’d love to see them become available in the same expansion as tengu, because they’d play off one another very well (i.e. new and old, sea and sky, dark and bright, etc).
- Centaur: Their awkward bodies are precisely the reason I’d like to play as these guys, but that same reason is likely to doom them to NPC status forever. If they were to come, the only way I could see it happening is with: Elona, by themselves (they’d require more work than both tengu and largos combined), and the art team getting really creative with their animations. I’d love to see it happen, but I’m pretty sure it never will.
- Tengu: If I had to pick a third, I guess it would be these guys. They’re not my favorite, but they’re very likely going to be the first race addition we see. Whether or not I make one will depend on their background, creation options, and cultural armors. As it stands, I like my charr and all the themes that go with them more than anything I’ve seen with tengu.
Something related to keep in mind: I keep seeing posts (not necessarily just in this thread) where people point to existing models and animations to support to deny a race’s plausibility at becoming playable. The thing is, if a race that’s currently an NPC were to become playable, the art team would revisit their design and very likely make entirely new models to support customization, world armor, and all the necessary animations. They’re not just going to go, “Largos are playable!” and give us what’s already in-game to the letter.
Looking at both tengu and largos, it seems obvious to me that both are using placeholder models. Every tengu looks the same except for some being colored differently than others, their animations are snappy and disjointed, etc. Largos currently suffer the same thing. There’s absolutely no variety in their models beyond their gender. This is, admittedly, more excusable given how few of them there are, but it seems to me that if they were intended to always be NPCs, they would have gone to the effort to make each one (since they’re sorta rare) slightly different from the next.
Yes I agree if they’re going to make them a playable race they will remake the models. That won’t happen until they are ready to make that change. We have to wait and see, but I believe the both will be playable at some point. I would not put work on something that’s not going to be used right away (or work on it on the side). When those two races get closer to being playable I think we will hear more about them and see more of them.
Anet is known to not show much about anything until they’re ready to show it, so I think they’re hiding it until we get closer. So even if they did have different models ready we would not see them in game until they were ready to expand on it.
The Tengu were going to be playable, so I’m sure they have other models for them already. The Largos were into’d into to us with in the last few months. Like I said Anet likes to not give out much info until they’re ready to expand on it, I would guess that means races models as well.
Has anyone seen this? Someone on Reddit partially clipped through a female Largos and was able to capture an image of her face from the inside-out.
http://i.imgur.com/vwCrObL.jpg
It looks a little too humanoid. Maybe the designers just stuck a human face on her for now because the Largos faces aren’t meant to be seen yet? Or maybe it’s just too difficult to tell what she really looks like because we’re looking at her from the inside.
That’s anyone’s guess to what they will end up looking like. There may be human-more ray like faces to choose from. I would not put too much into that pic it’s far from finished.
