I took time off from 9 month. Since two weeks i give GW 2 a shot. What can i say … The game is still a beta. Conditons, minions, pets, clones ruins pvp because it´s no fight player vs player but rather player + a.i! Who like that?

But: An pusblisher who is responsible run 5 Mesmers with all they clones, or 5 Necro with all the kitten minions – in one team – i would´t take it seriously.

Now i´m rank46, going for rank50. After that i will decide, if i will continue for another season. (maybe r60)

Although I do not share the whole of the sentiment, I tend to agree that this claim is rather laughable.

No, warriors do not have a lot of survivability by nature (at least no more than other professions at level 80). In fact, until several recent changes they were an extremely weak class when it comes to surviving. If warriors seem like good survivors, it is because the manner in which they can be built to be survivable is accessible to a wide number of players (i.e. it does not require a great deal of keyboard gymnastics). If a warrior is built to be a heavy damage-dealer then, as is the vision of the developers, it will melt in the face of a zerg (or even more than one opponent player on average assuming all are equally skilled, whatever that means) just as easily as any other DPS-focused build, regardless of profession. Let me explain:

The nature of the “survival” game in GW2 is not based upon armor level, at least not to the extent it was in, say, GW1, and this along with a high HP pool is the only “natural” advantage a warrior might have. This is partly because increasing armor rating has vastly diminishing returns. Once you hit around 3500 armor (or perhaps less), adding additional armor becomes almost a moot point; you would be better off attempting to out-damage your foes or find some way of avoiding damage altogether, and this is precisely what many other professions can do that warriors cannot. Even if a warrior has nearly 30,000 HP, this number is ineffectual as a deterrent if the armor rating is mediocre, and entails a great deal of sacrifice in terms of offensive options. Reaching the 3500 armor mark is not something that many attempt anyway, since they would rather allocate their points for damage output. Besides, as many will note there are better ways of mitigating damage, namely the protection buff (to which the warrior does not “naturally” have access). I shall not even touch on “invulnerability”.

So what does increase one’s odds of survival? Several factors come into play here. First, and most obvious, is mobility: the ability to simply avoid getting hit. Mobility takes several forms in GW2, including leap, dash, teleportation, and basic evasion. The effectiveness of this lattermost option is only amplified by the vigor boon to which, again, the warrior’s access is quite poor. As such, warriors tend not to be very “dodgy” unless they do such things as equip Signet of Endurance, but then this is forcing a niche skill, and I took the project to be able to give players a variety of options. As such, in terms of mobility warriors rely upon leaps and dashes to get in and out of combat. Of these options, however, there is only one skill to my knowledge (Whirling Blade on the greatsword) that provides any kind of evasion, so the best warriors get with mobility is a way to (not always reliably) close gaps when entering combat and run away slightly faster when leaving combat. This is not really a viable way of avoiding damage.

Great words! The whole class-mechanic is garbage vs stealth, ports, minions and tons of cons. To be realy viable, warrior must have acces to perma evasion and more utility. I know, nothing will come of it.

Lol everyone is a talented Warrior. Just roll forehead across keyboard.

Everyone is a talented (put class here) that loses against no talented warrior.

Thing is after only a few matches I was heaps better on my warrior than on any of my other classes. There was no opportunity cost. Unlike other classes, I could do damage and be very tanky at the same time. I could swap in cc weapons and do all 3. It didn’t seem to matter what order you used your skills at all. There was really no thinking or opportunity cost at all. Missing a skill or using it at the wrong time didn’t matter. I would call that a faceroll.

I did the same with my mesmer and i killed those warriors without many worries (of course i know how to dodge and kite hambows).
Then i picked a ranger and did the same.
In the end i reached one conclusion with this two classes.
I dont even need to actively hit the other player to defeat him. The AI does that for me.
If that is not faceroll…

Now i´m going to start playing necro.

This is so true! Anet know this issue but don´t wanna help warrior in a 1 vs 1 situation. It´s a shame.

Yeah, ok. But many many many more people play WvW than PvP. So getting WvW right is arguably more important.

You´re absolutly right! But this is Anet´s problem. Warrior perfom very well in WvW or in PvE; in tPvP or sPvP he is – without hambow-build – just cannon fodder. After 10th of december he is once again – obsolete.

The hammer nerfs are just for spvp right? Already a terrible weapon in pve so that didn’t matter.
Talk about a massive nerf to organized wvw groups though. People are just gonna blob more now.

Why? what makes the warrior profession so special that it deserves to do as much damage on its CC weapons skills as other professions do on their damage weapon skills?

Try to land a hit on a skilled Mesmer, Engineer or Ranger without a cc and damage weapon. Otherwise you have NO pressure on your opponent. Warrior have no port, no stealth and other gimmik “op” utilities. Only the Hambow-Build is atm viable in t or spvp and this will be nerfed over the top. What comes after that? Quo vadis Warrior?

Until the day comes when Anet will seperate pvp from wvw and pve as it was meant to be by default all these changes based on small scaled fights or even 1vs1 , will be a complete and absolute failure . But let me explain .

Jon came here and shared his thoughts which i find it encouraging since it shows that he really tries to be in touch with the community .

All these things he said i find them logical when it comes to pvp or 1vs1 . But what about WvW ? or pve ? do they really make any difference there ? i think not . The reason why is just because when you deal with mass scale battles , which also involves siege mashines etc etc , it won’t be the same the impact effect of those skills are easier to be countered and even if it is not it won’t make a difference since the numbers / organazations wins always .

I won’t debate on any changes i see until Anet make a complete and seperate logic about what changes should be implemented or both cases . WvW is not tpvp and the opposite . Anet indroduced them as completely different aspects of the game . On what sort of basis all these changes are implemented ? .

There is nothing more to discuss , since everyone here comes and express his opinion according to his needs / preferences according to the type of game he /she plays . Everyone is telling the truth but they do not play the same thing .

convince me that i am really that game breaking when i am using hambow in EB or any BL that i need to be nerfed when i have to face up twice or thrice the numbers that iahve on my side , and guess what there are hambow’s on the other side too . balance restored imo .

Anyway i am not trying to convince anyone just sharing my thoughts like you guys do . As long as it is unclear in what sort of basis all these “balance patches” comes out i don’t think there is really anything to discuss …

The thing is, Jon is a gamedesigner and certainly NOT a guy who have the talent or the know how to balance all the classes. He/they have very good ideas – around the game – but class-balance is an borrowed word. I dont know WHY so many ppl have trouble with wars, with my guard or mesmer i destroy warrior indiffrend which build i run.

Anet pls tell me: Why Mesmer, Engineer oder Ranger will be untouched? I mean untouched: They perform as allways! Warrior isn´t the strongest class in this game and for sure, he have the weakest utility i have ever seen. Even the wow-cataclysm was in the same spot. Business as usual?! In every 1 vs 1 fight (without Hambow) he is the underdog. That´s fact! I´m playing my (round about 100h) Mesmer or Guard more successful. Don´t think i am a noob and have no clue. My english is /sorry\ too close for writing a wall of text with all (my) detailed censures. No warrior will/can accept the patchnotes because they was over the top. You can say good-bye to that! Otherwise the warrior-class is obsolete.

Dear support staff,

I normally dont post in forum with regards to updates but just read them. I personally felt this nerf gone way too far. I am actually okay with the hammer nerf in terms of damage as I understand that it is OP when I use it myself. What I could not accept is why is mace getting nerf and with regards to all these nerf there isn’t any additional buffs to other areas to open more options for build. I fought several classes 1v1 and I don’t think I am a real bad player but is having a lot of trouble to kill them , like for example for mesmer that illusion, evade and stealth rotation is totally lame and its not getting nerf, you can barely land a burst on them and when u finally stun them they teleport away, meanwhile you are suffering from tons of conditions which means you are pretty much dead unless you run. I think the dev team is too focused on nerfing OP areas due to QQers but neglected the fun of the class itself whereby so many weapon is left unused like rifle, axe and GS(Seriously you expect us to hit stuff with it when 3 out of the 5 skill always fail due to lag). Please give us buff in other areas like u did with guardian when you nerf us.

And the only weapon that was kind of viable againts mesmers is getting a huge nerf besides all that.Yes i am talking about bow.Bow/mace is the most nerfed build in this patch even more than hammer/x since mace lacks mobility and without the strong aoe you wouldnt even be able to kill the clones,besides no cripple/weakness and aoe stun/damage/mobility a hammer still has over mace.I am strongly considering to move on if the patch will prove too kitten fun builds.No go for booring fotm dire or pvt for me.

You should know … Ah, you know that, Mesmer is the baby from Anet so they never touch this crazy clone wars class. Guard is in the same spot. I vote for a complete redesign but “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”.

So why does every warrior’s skills have to be telegraphed to an extreme degree while builds like glass engie rifle w/ celestial armor + runes of the noble can hit harder than hammer from range while applying more condi’s and relatively low-cd control/blowout skills and with untelegraphed or minimum telegraphed attacks, yet can also regen for 10k HP w/o supply drop, and 20k HP with supply drop, has near perma-vigor and enough immobs/control/interrupts to mitigate large amounts of damage?

Or the near-unkillable faceroll builds of condi bunker mesmer with perplex runes that still puts out large pressure at range and has existed since the dawn of time?

What about the fact that hammer warrior was one of the only viable counters to a necro sitting behind a wall of guards spamming condis all over the place, and that the warrior had about 8 seconds to put enough pressure on the necro to down him or force him to disengage? It’s bad enough that dire armor now allows necros to become huge tanks that also condi bomb for huge damage, but now that our hammer damage has been reduced it further decreases the chance of being able to lock down a class/build that can literally single-handedly turn a fight behind the safety of their front line. Have you considered how a nerf to warriors is now an indirect buff to a build that you already recently buffed through introduction of dire armor?

Here’s another question: Why is there only 1 stat modifier for condi damage (condi damage), and yet you need 3 for power builds (power, crit chance, crit dmg)? This is one of the main reasons that has lead us to this extremely boring meta of very tanky/high HP/regen bunker builds that focus near 100% of damage through conditions.

It’s pushing warrior to a point where there is becoming little reason to run anything but condi bunker because the dmg you can do through condis is comparable to power builds but allows you to become a ridiculous tank in the process.

Pls add a serverwatch tool like the old “allseeingeye”. It´s garbage fighting against 4-6 mesmer (in one team) 6 necromancer, 6 ninjas or 6 ranger in warriors view. All the pets, clones, minions and Northrop B-2-brainafk “i´ll make it for you”-skills are not realy pvp suitable.

It will save a lot of time …

I’m dissapointed you didn’t change anything about the healing-signet. We know warrior need defense in order to be a melee. However, Healing-Signet creates a very passive and cheesy play. It’s boring to see bad warriors are able to perform that well, just because they have an utility in their slot with such a high impact and which doesn’t require no skill in order to succeed.

You should really start to focus and reduce the passive play to bring up the fun-factor of this game. It is not fun to play against Minion-Mancers, CC-Warriors or Spirit-Rangers. All people hate these cheesy builds . . .

You´re not serious, are you? The problem is not HS. Wars problem is only ONE (Hambow) Build. Warrior is in a good position, far apart from beeing op. The real problem in this game are STILL the insane conditions and minions.

Lost a 1 vs 1 to a mesmer, necromancer, thief, and a spirit ranger today on my op hambow warrior. Glad it’s getting nerfed. To strong against new players.

Warrior was a one trick pony a WHOLE Year. Atm he is in a good place. Against a well played Mesmer, Ranger or Necrotic – maybe a Enginer – you´ll never have a chance. If you run a tanky build, you´ll die over time. If you run a DPS-build you die by conditions or mechanic. BUT NOW you have a chance !!!

This is flame WARS II !

Warrior is NOW in the right place. The other professions was much to strong, yeah, overbuffed a WHOLE year.

Warriors are pretty strong right now, but will be seeing changes in an upcoming patch.

We like how they can be tanky, and we like how they can do DPS if they want. We also like the CC they can bring. We just don’t like them doing it all with 1 build.

Can you please share the 30/30/30/30/30 build with me?
Because everytime I deal lots of dmg, i lose all my defense and my CC.
If i’m a tank,i lose my dmg.
And so far I haven’t seen a proper middle way.
I think these things exists only in other people’s mind,whom are not warriors.

Uhhh. Warriors get 12.5 seconds of invulnerability if traited right. They get balanced stance. They can keep up swiftness indefinitely between their elite signet and a banner while traveling between places plus their banner has a charge to boot. Their hammer has a 2 second aoe stun. Their heal removes 2 conditions and if your really desperate for condition removal they have a signet that removes all conditions. They have the highest base armor/hp. They have two gap closers on their GS. They can block and if traited reflect projectiles with their shield. The ranger #3 GS movement skill is affected by cripple. I think the Guardians GS #3 movement skill is affected by cripple as well. They have an immobolize with with longbow #5 and bolas plus a 2 second knockdown with bulls charge and hammer #5 which they can follow up with frenzy and hundred blades. Comparing the warrior who has the highest base armor/hp to an elementist who has the lowest base armor/hp probably isn’t fair.

Sure isn’t since the uptime, damage, cc and versatility of elementalist makes them way out of our league. I’m a quite good warrior, I wouldn’t say OMFG so good but I can win against almost every person I fought or come close to do so, when fighting mesmers, people with equal skills will usually beat me, this is due to the massive burst and confusion they can deal to me, I don’t roll on berserkers gear so I am no glass cannon, mesmers can cc, stealth and deal damage like no tomorrow so is not about knowing which one is real is about staying on that real, since they got access to better escape mechanisms they can disengage and re engage as they need. Thus making a mesmer a really hard target for warriors.

On the elementalist side, the amount of cc, self healing, movement, engage and disengage array of skills gives them such an uptime, flexibility and mobility that even if you play your warrior to perfection your damage just won’t keep up, thus you are only delaying the inevitable. Sure bad elementalist will drop like flies but this applies to bad warrior and bad everything lol!

True words! Please A-Net “read and understand” this wall of text, otherwise you’ll have to pay dearly for any mistakes.

I play gw2 since October. And a lot of people consider me a very good player.
Man.. You know that gw2 is a scissors,papper,rock game.
Example. A build will destroy B build, B build will destroy C build, C build will destroy A build…..
Same is with classes, an A class will have advantages against B class, B class will have advantages against C class….

This is true. And anybody I mean really anybody knows that!

This is not true. As a warrior i can say, rangers are one, mabye the best 1 on 1 class in game. Also, warrior will outclassed by any profession. There is no a-build, b-build oder c-build out since August 2k12. You allways started with a disadvantage.

Ranger pets must be toned down and limited in range. And pls a-net, do some tweaks in the animations. Ranger animations, especially sb #1 is horrible and for me a reason quit this game. Thanks!

Stealth is a bad game mechanic. Ever since Dark Ages of Camelot (the first pvp MMORPG with it that I know of) it has been a controversial mechanic. It doesn’t matter if it can be countered or not it is totally unfun to play against and often leaves people on the receiving end feeling like they were cheated somehow.

Indeed! While we’re on it, they abolished the holy trinity, why A-Net aren´t ballsy enough and turn one’s back on something like stealth?

Anet should rethink and restrict the maps to a maximum of 5 vs 5 maybe 6 vs. 6. After that they should go a step further and divide into a maximum of 3 players a class on BOTH teams. In addition, they should know that it’s no fun to fight against 1000 clones or illusions. It’s annoying. Even if the Mesmer is the baby of Anet, it is not free from errors. I’m so sorry i must say: “it’s r_etar_ded”.

In 5 vs 5 Tournaments i prefer ONE class by team.

I never have issues with thieves tbh. It’s just one guy to kill.

And ctrl+t helps but it isn’t needed, I always know which one is the right one.

Thieves are boring like the hell and OP with shortbow/pistol. Somebody said it´s only a culling problem. I don´t think so. The damage output + stealth is completly insane. Who actually had this idea? Cruel!

Maybe, but at the very least we need a “contra-build” for any class. With my Warrior i can’t remember ever feeling this bad. There is no “contra-build” for any build/class release since August 2k12.

If you play bunker you will outclassed by conditions or pure damage.
If you spec glasscannon you die by conditions or range/positioning
If you play a hybrid you will longer live but die by the underpowered mechanic.

also think of this. With 3 points when do you ever really encounter 5v5? It’s been pretty kitten rare in my experience. I think it’s a little naive to balance strictly for 5v5 when MOST fights are nowhere near being 5v5.

Blizzard has tried and failed magnificently. So yes, in the first step, Anet must balance the game around 1 vs 1 , 2 vs 2 , 3 vs 3 and so on.

I main a warrior, and there is (still) no COUNTER-Build on the market.

Btw. Shortbow/Pistol Thieves are a pest and must be toned down. Thanks!

If they continue to “balance” game around 5v5 have fun. Thees a reason why we see many mesmers, d/d eles and so on. Its all cause they are extremely strong in 1v1.

Those ppl don’t post here, they don’t care about it either, they jus want to be strong in 1v1 and rely on themself like i do, but i can’t cause my class sux donkey balls. By that i have abandomed GW2 pvp, and if i want play pvp i goes to Crysis 3.

A game should be based on invidual skill, the current meta don’t promotes that, instead punishing for it – if u want to be good at 1v1 roll op class.

Its not fun for me, not fun for others, and u guys wonder why pvp is dead.

Like i said if they continue balancing this game around 5v5 have fun..with urself

And keep in mind that 1v1 balance is superior to 5v5.

Teamwork? U will keep that easily with balance around 1v1, and maybe we will also see something diff than 2x d/d ele, mesmer and something else.

The problem is, Anet know this BUT it doesn´t matter. Ele damage must be toned down, heal must toned down, defense must toned down, mobility must toned down. If not -> WARRIOR need a complete redesign.

I think many eles would be fine with that as long as you brought our hp pools inline with warrior, burst inline with warrior, auto attack for dagger inline with axe, mobility inline with warrior (who can be more mobile) and ranged single target dps ie scepter in all attunements inline with rifle as well as the range.

Trying to balance this game around 1v1 is a foolish undertaking. We need more game types and better maps.

Damage is not the problem, the real problem is, Wars have no chance to survive. They lacks in healability and condition removing. Also, the mobility isn´t as good as Ele/Thief + they have no magic or other tricks.

Sorry, Ele must be toned down, otherwise warrior is only a clown in GW2.

A Look at the Classes

I agree with the warrior observations from Creld.8702 and Empathetic Fighter.2065. Thats the class i play and i can see that on the battlefields. Warriors can also be used for suport but they dont make the diference at it.

Elementalist can also give strong AOE heals. Staff ele is great in big numbers even for dps.

Warrior is just predictable, has no gimmick and a horrible defence. A-Net devs fail hard as they programmed the warrior. The class need a complete redisign or conditions must be toned down.

I disagree. Sure necro don’t have much combo to learn and all, but they don’t have much OH kitten button ether. So if you are lazy, you’ll die a lot.

Warrior Mobility Issues

As long the community think warrior is fine (in PvE is) A-Net don´t change anything. A highskill War can be beaten by a RANDOM Ranger, Ele, Mesmer, Thief with pistol or shortbow, Engi, Necro and Guard … Do you seen? Yes, you´ll punished by every class. You only need “stealth, range, teleport and aoe”. Nah, not the entire assortment ,one of those skills just fine.

Elementalist has to be on par with every other class. Once this happens, more variety will come up. The current metagame evolves around that particular class.
( Changes were only half the work, some more stuff has to be changed )

Yes, of course! ONE elementist compensates TWO warriors. The survivability + healability + movement + damage output (as a tanky d/d) + boons is quiet too much, better word, insane! It doesn’t go without notice that eles run in godmode.

Q: Why didn’t A-Net see that coming?

Yes, but it´s “imo” only a balance-thing. We´ll never get a “perfect” balance game, but today, is just horrible. In my eyes, warrior, elementist and mesmer, need a complete redesign. Wars is UP in every respect. Why bring a warrior, if you can offer [insert random class here] Every class (Wars don´t ask) have access to stealth and/or teleport-skills. That´s gamebreakable in every mmorpg-game (I speak from personal experience) The advantages are very conspicuous. Also, condition-builds are much to strong. There is no skill behind to spam AoE-skills or stacking bleeding from the outside. The question is: What will A-Net do? I think, they know the problems but have no clue how to change. How do you say that in English? To acknowledge one’s wrongs?

Sorry, i’m afraid my English is a bit rusty.

Defektive, thanks for your good work BUT warrior sucks in every respect. I run your build in tPvP and hotjoin, without a good team i was kitten in seconds. The new map is – from the viewpoint of a warrior – just a kinda horror-movie. You´ll be outclassed by simply positioning.

What are you planning to do with the Warrior?

There is no real place for this class. I´m running out of words because my english lacks much the same as the warrior-class in pvp. I main now a ranger, but is this the real way for everyone?
