And what’s up with needing two bladders/spleens that you somehow “combine” together to make a proper organ? What professor brainiac graduated from Hollywood Upstairs Medical College and thought that was a solid idea?

Sure enough, thought to myself “can’t keep happening, can it?”

Killed another 2 hours or so getting organized, fought properly from what I could tell, tagged veteran wurms, and got the shaft once again. Literally got 6 greens for my efforts from the big chest at the center of the map.

I think this is a convincing photo – just got the karma for killing it (bottom right corner), no bonus chest, no loot, nothing.

I’ve killed the wurm about 10 times and received a total of 3 chests. Just when I tell myself “I’m never wasting 2 hours of my life running this bs content for no reward again” I try it, and again don’t get any reward.

It’s getting tiring, and the lack of official response to the issue is frustrating. Never again.

Thanks for the input all – not that I’m particularly keen on using shields at low levels anyhow, but was just wondering.

Level 3 Leveling Shield

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mithyl.8620

Hi all. I got one of those malleable shields that are account bound and have select-able stats intended for helping alts to level. These are nice items and I appreciate that they’re in-game (despite having all my toons at 80, so it’s a bit late for me :p)

However I question the logic behind having a level 3 shield with fancy level 6 stats…when the off-hand slot doesn’t become available until level 7 anyhow! Is this an oversight? Should I just destroy this, as it’s simply a piece of garbage, or am I missing something critical? Does the shield level up with you (in a WoW style)? Or is this just completely useless to anyone in their right mind?

Thanks in advance.

It is outrageous to get closer to 5000 hrs played and receive non precursor.

Your number of hours played has no effect on RNG drops….just letting you know so you can re-evaluate what is and is not ‘outragous’.

For any chance greater than 0%, no matter how small, the more shots you take at it, the closer the chance to hit upon success at least once gets to 100%.

For example, if you take 5000 gambles at 1 in 1000 odds, the chance to win at least once is a little above 99%.

Seeing how long and how intensively people play this game without getting precursors, the drop chance for those kitten things must be incredibly small. Some might call it outrageous and I wouldn’t argue.

If my math is correct, the actual chance is 99.3279% chance of winning at least once.

You made a slight error – 1:1000 odds means 1 success to every 1000 errors (meaning you have a 1 in 1001 chance of winning – not 1 in 1000).

Assuming these are all Bernoulli trials, the probability is P(At least one success) = 1 – P(all failures) = 1 – (5000C0(1/1001)^0(1-1(1/1001))^5000) = 1 – (1)(1)(1-1(1/1001))^5000 = 1 – 0.00675 = 0.99325

ie. a 99.325% chance at having at least one success in 5000 chances, if the odds are 1:1000.

You would be right if he had said 1:1000, but he didn’t. He said 1 in 1000. Next time you try to one up me, please read more carefully.

Good point – upon re-reading, I think this is a case of ambiguous language. One should say a “1 in 1000 chance”, or “1 to 1000 odds.” To say odds implies a success to failure ratio, but to say “1 in 1000” means a .1% chance of success.

No need to feel threatened btw! We’re all friendly math people here. No one’s one-upping anyone, we’re both just looking for accuracy (which I feel is a safe assumption on my part – otherwise you wouldn’t have posted the exact answer when the prior post said “a little over 99%”) (:

WvW Tournament Rewards Distribution Delay

in WvW

Mithyl.8620

Sorry if I’m parroting someone, didn’t read every page of this thread, saw too much complaining.

IMHO the simplest way to fix this would be to simply create a new wvw reward token, with a new item ID, and code the Battle Historian to recognize that item ID…in that case the boxes would be re-distributed, the old tokens would be useless, and can simply be deleted from your inventory (or kept if you’re a pack rat).

I don’t think it’s worth splitting hairs and making things more complicated than this for the sake of some wvw ranks, boosters and greens, it’s the tokens everyone wants and would like to be functional. I wouldn’t complain if someone got a few extra boosters because they got two chests.

All of you appear really bad at light armor fashion, you basically just handed it to him. Ah well. Message me or post here and let me know which armor set you wish to own. Disclaimer This isn’t true, many of you made lovely light armored characters, but xsquared’s Mesmer is a wonderful example of making it look good.

Ouch. Joking or not, that’s a bit harsh…

Congrats winners!

Tempered Spinal Blades cost...

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

People have to keep in mind that they can’t really balance stuff based on player-controlled things.

I’d like to point out that the idea that the BLTP economy is “player-controlled” is only a half truth. Most players, especially those who play the item-flipping game, have at least a spotty understanding of the laws of supply and demand. This (one) factor definitely has player-influence, particularly when new content is released and players “have to have it right now.” The ascended armour release for instance, saw a huge increase in the cost of silk which has been steadily decreasing but remains at a steep price.

However we should not forget the entire slew of other variables that can artificially inflate or deflate supply and/or demand that players have absolutely no control over. Time-gated content creates a demand for things that would otherwise not be present*. Deldrimor steel ingots have balanced out their price at around 3-4g, until of course people started buying them for this time gated content. They are nearly 8g at the time of this posting.

The huge factor that I can humbly see as the cause of the discrepancy between deldrimor steel and the bolt of damask is the requirement of 100 silk…this is in turn dependent on drop-rates of silk from salvaging etc. This is something entirely controllable by Anet, from many different perspectives.

Tl;dr: The laws of supply and demand on GW2’s economy have a lot more to do with Anet than you might think because of crafting recipe requirements and drop rates (among other things).

*Note: I’m not intending to start a discussion regarding whether or not time-gated content is a good thing…the way I see it, there are pro’s and con’s, when your game is set up like GW2.

^^Thanks. Was hoping it would be a different sort (like Sunless vs. Occam’s, despite both having Cond. Damage as primary, look different), but it’s indeed red.

I just had someone kindly link one in Lion’s Arch, to confirm the above. It looks exactly like Zojja’s, for instance.

I apologize if this is a repost, but I’ve tried searching the forums, google and the wiki and couldn’t find this.

Has anyone crafted a keeper’s ascended weapon that wouldn’t mind uploading a screenshot? I’m curious what colours/hues it has. Please and thanks!

Kind of a minor point, but last year it took a good 2-3 seconds to open the chests too…you stop to open one, let alone several, and you’re done.

This year you can just grab them without missing a beat.

Gauntlets of Madness Stat Selection

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Mithyl.8620

Mithyl.8620

Sources suggest that the gloves you get from the Mad King’s Chest give a wide array of stat prefix choices. However, to my disappointment, when I picked the heavy armour variety (Gauntlets of Madness), I was only given the option of 6 prefixes: Berserker’s, Carrion, Cleric’s, Dire, Rampager’s and Shaman’s.

I have it on good authority that the medium variety contained all or most of the other prefixes, including Celestial, Apothecary’s, Sentinel’s, etc.

Is this working as intended? (Sure hope not, as it really is rather limited)
