Sound Updates

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

As someone who crafted the Dreamer and Quip over a year ago… I vote to change the sound effects.

I love almost everything about the bow (the colors and the theme is right up my alley), except for that grating screaming in distress whinny. When I made mine, I only used it for about half an hour before I transmuted it to another skin for both the sanity of myself, and those around me.

It would be a more suitable sound to me if it was an ‘on draw’ sound that plays occasionally (to avoid trolling with it) rather than every time you fire.
As for a better ‘firing arrow’ sound effect, it needs something subtle. Not remotely sure how to explain what I have in mind, but something in terms of Kudzu with the birds chirping, but perhaps more of a quiet sparkly/tinkly sound effect that matches the rainbows/stars/glitter rather than the unicorn.

As for Quip. This was another I crafted but I ended up selling it before I even used it after getting in a DS squad with 2 thieves that had them. The noise either needs to be toned way way down in volume, made to an occasional sound off, or changed entirely.
If it was to be changed entirely, I don’t know what kind of unique sound would work to compliment the gun rather than overwhelm it.

Got 100% map completion on VB, no reward [Merged]

Logged into my necro who has map completion at 100% (before the patch) in: Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Dragon’s Stand, and still no rewards given.

Edit: Fixed the issue. Relogged again and re-entered into each map again to get the map completion rewards, so has been fixed.

Influence to Favor number change?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Moonjelly.3742

Back during the Guild Chat livestream, ANet showed us 10k influence for 1 favor, but at release of HoT it’s 10k for 50 favor? Did I miss an announcement about this between then and now?

I’m not exactly happy with this change, but don’t know who to be angry at, ANet for not telling us (and pushing for guilds to use up as much influence as possible), or me for missing if it was officially announced somewhere.

That 1 changed to a 50 would have made a huge difference to many smaller end guilds.

Hate to be the pessimist here, but I personally don’t really foresee a surge of players unfamiliar with PvP or WvW going into those modes. Reason being? The mats needed for the new legendaries from both modes will be tradeable.

I’m sure there will some, but doubt it will be overly noticeable.

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Moonjelly.3742

Yea, that’s pretty much what you’re asking for actually. You want devs to spend time and resources to give 1-2 person ‘guilds’ the ability to earn a resource that was designed for actual real guilds.

And yea, taking those resources away hurts everyone that’s not in a 1-2 person guild. Updates don’t just magically happen out of thin air.

Clearly everyone has a definition that differs as to what an ‘actual real guild’ means. Not going to start a big debate here and derail the thread so it ends up closed, but just because some of us enjoy our micro guilds, doesn’t mean our opinions or ideas should be dismissed because of it.

We aren’t asking for the guild hall dev team to drop everything to accommodate us, it’s more of a something we would like to see so we have a chance to partake in the dev’s hard work too. If, down the road, this is something they would consider looking at, this way they at least know that there are players who would greatly appreciate it.

The favor from events setup wouldn’t be much different than it is right now with influence. And while I don’t know their coding, I don’t see why it would be a huge hassle to work this in at some point or how it ‘hurts everyone’ outside of the small guilds. In fact, I could see even 5-10 man guilds benefiting from such a setup if there are times where not enough members can log on for them to do specific missions for that week, at least some gain is there.
And as I said before, put a lower weekly cap on what you can gain from events. That way everyone wins.

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

Moonjelly.3742

I’m part of the small guild club, and mine consists of just my closest friend and I. After years of being in, as well as leading, large guilds across different games, I’m not interested in that anymore. And up until now it hasn’t been an issue, nor punishing, for preferring a micro guild in GW2.

With the current influence setup, even small guilds like mine have had the opportunity to gain a few upgrades here and there. Small guilds don’t have access to the plethora of extra perks/boosts large guilds do (which is how it should be), but we at least were not left out entirely.
So why restrict players into only one way of gaining favor? Perhaps there will be another method that hasn’t been mentioned, but at this point it seems only missions will give us that.
I would be perfectly happy with being able to gain favor via doing events out in the world, like we have now, still but with a smaller weekly cap (say 100 or so). It would take much longer to do things (I am fine with that), but at least that way we wouldn’t be excluded and could still be able to plug away towards guild hall upgrades.

Why is everything time gated?

Moonjelly.3742

I like to be able to have top tier gear without spending a large amount of time.

What MMO offers the highest tier gear without a fair sized time investment to obtain though?

WoW, SWTOR, Aion, Rift, Tera, Wildstar, etc, you have to either grind reputation, tokens, raids, dungeons, PvP, etc to get that gear. All of that is time gated in one way or another (via point caps, lockouts, dailies).
Not to mention that it also relies on RNG being in your favor with drops and nobody else decides to roll against you when it comes to raid/dungeon drops.

why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

and by that I mean the nickle and diming grindy feel whenever you want to change your character’s appearance or have more than character 5 slots or more bank slots or….etc. Like I paid 50+ USD $ for it when it originally came out. Played since day 1. I’ve got like two, TWO pieces of cosmetics I’ve unlocked (like the special ones you can apply for free) . Seriously? There are f2p games with more cosmetic options for less time spent.

Sure there are random loot crap unlocks. I’m talking about looks you’d actually want on your character. I know the token thingys arent too hard to grind but they’re still a grind. for a paid model I should be able to change my appearance on a whim.

Is GW2 the only MMO you have played? Everything is a grind/work in any MMO. Level, gold, reputation, gear, achievements, etc is always involves a chunk of time to obtain, and good luck finding one that doesn’t require some level of it.

If you really have been playing since release and have unlocked only 2 pieces of unique cosmetic gear, you are clearly doing something wrong. That being said, it sounds to me from the way you have worded this post, that you just want everything up front with zero effort rather than working towards it. That’s fine and all, but you won’t find that in this MMO or any other.

So a goofy thing like having an early 1900’s style sepia tone overlay with your character posing like an airplane, in an old aviator cap, making childish engine noises, in a video game is offensive? Good grief. Better tell all the children of the world while we are at it to not to play airplanes anymore because it’s not sensitive.

I swear to god people go out of their way to find anything offensive these days so they can kick up a fuss.

Feedback on HoT Stress Test [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

It’s a two hour ‘stress test’ not a full blown beta, so not entirely sure what people were expecting exactly. Considering we have been given very little information past what was available in the demo at Pax and Rezzed, it stands to reason why this test has only the area that was available there. I would also imagine they want to see how their systems perform in a small controlled spot with lots of people before opening the flood gates and allowing us to actually test and break things.

While it was just the same preview demo, I was pretty impressed with the overall atmosphere of the area and can’t wait to see more.
-Very lush and active/alive environment.
-The music is so well done.
-Really nice to see my character talking in real time to other NPC’s around her.
-Enjoyed the Revenant as well. Can’t really comment much on the play style as there aren’t enough varied encounters to properly critique abilities.
-The feeling of having the legends actually talking through you while activated is very immersive, and the color glowing around your hands/forearms depending on the legend you are channeling is a really nice touch.

There were some issues:
-My character was twisting around in very unnatural directions when moving during the story. She was just bound and determined to stare at someone at the Pact crash site regardless of how much contorting she had to apply to her spine to do it…
-Voices were not always working. Braham’s dialog was completely absent.
-Activation of gliding seems clunky. It just doesn’t react as quick as one would think when you hit the space bar. Thought this was lag on my end, but was sitting at 80ms during the hour I was able to be logged in.
-The window for spending mastery points seriously needs to be either in the character panel or somewhere easier to access. I saw a lot of people asking in zone chat where it was, and I could not find it easily at first either.
-Mobs were just vanishing/appearing at random.

Teeny Tiny Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

What a normal expansion gives:
- 2 or more new classes
- a complete continent of new zones
- 1 or more new races
- 5+ new dungeons
- several new pvp/rvr maps
- several new game modes
- several raids
- a huge amount of new skins accessible through game
- a huge amount of new skills

-It has not been normal for an expansion to give more than 1 class, if any at all. Rift is the only exception with their subclasses.
-True. But we do not know how many zones HoT will include at this point nor the scale. We only know how many biomes.
-This is pretty rare in MMO’s to get new playable races. Only mainstream MMO I am aware of that have added new races is WoW (5 total. 2 for each faction and 1 neutral over 5 expansions). SWTOR added one to their store so that doesn’t really count in my book, and FFARR is adding one soon, although it just looks like a slight rework of an existing one.
-Depends on the MMO. Rift and WoW have added a decent number at each expansion launch, but the later included some rehash over the last few years.
-Not common to see pvp maps added for an expansion. Only one MMO that has done much with that that I am aware of (WoW but none added in WoD)
-Not really something I have seen much of personally to consider it normal for an expansion requirement.
-1 raid at launch seems to be the norm, with more added in patches released as ‘tiers’.
-Very true, but we haven’t received enough information to know what the scope of the new skins will be.
-Aside from Rift, many MMO’s seem to be going in the entirely opposite direction and pruning skills way down for expansions, or reworking what is already there instead.

I think far too many people are jumping the gun and getting worked up before knowing much of anything.
ANet has only shown us the roots of the tree so to speak. Wait until they show us the trunk, branches, and leaves before chopping it down and deciding to make mulch.

I spent around 700g spanning almost a year trying to get The Legend via the mystic pit. It never appeared, and I didn’t get anything back worth noting to even soften the crushing defeat.
At that time I was dead set against shelling out hundreds of gold to another player for having the luck I severely lack in any game, but in the end it happened anyway.

I would love to work towards Sunrise as well, but until such time as ANet releases some surefire way to obtain a precursor that doesn’t involve shelling out 1k+ to another player, I will just stare at it through the tp window.

At the end of the day it’s just a bunch of pixels, and there are far more important things to get riled up over than who has what in a fantasy universe.

I for one am just fine with the fact that a year from now newcomers or people who missed the event can get the Scarlet helmet, or the panda pet for example.

Tried the Mystic Forge, spent 300g between then and July crafting hundreds of staves… no luck. Tried again in November using 200g to make more, nothing. Again a few days ago another 150 plus 100g worth of mats I had on hand and walked away with no precursor.
I probably should have just used that gold to save up to get one off the TP, but I hate the thought of having to pay someone else for something because I don’t have a golden horseshoe planted up my backside.

Keep hoping to see a precursor crafting update, but alas I think that is just a silly dream at this point…

Will I get Banned if I use SweetFX?

in Account & Technical Support

As from official posts by ANet:

“Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
“Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
“Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

The answer to all three is no. As Sirsquishy said, it’s an API wrapper so it doesn’t alter the program giving any advantage over anyone else.

I’ve been using Sweetfx for a few months now and I don’t think I could ever go without. Not only are my graphics crisper, the colors are also more vibrant, and I even gained fps. My rig isn’t exactly a beast by today’s standards, but I rarely see lower than 45fps with everything set to max (except player model number is set lower so I can actually see something in WvW/zergs).

Some of you sound so entitled it’s not even funny.

When you factor in ALL the stuff you get, it’s actually greater than you guys make it out to be.

I don’t know how much it’s entitlement rather than being mislead. The track text says ‘set’, and a set means just that, not a single piece.

Generally I don’t complain about what ANet does as it’s something I can live with, but misleading reward text and not telling us information like hotjoin games only count towards 25% of track completion is not really acceptable. It’s things like this that ANet needs to tell us up front or in a clear fashion to avoid the uproar.

Moonjelly.3742

I’m not too sure what the big fuss is here. It’s a Chinese client, and their game models don’t function like NA/EU games do from my experience. This also has absolutely nothing to do with us, and most likely it was due their Chinese publisher wanting these type of things put in, not necessarily ANet themselves.

It’s actually not that subjective. P2W means paying money to win. In a PvP situation, paying for a sword that has vastly better stats over what’s available for a non-paying customer is what P2W is all about. Think of it like “paying for a guaranteed win”. Same thing if you had a game with airplanes. Paying real money to buy an F-16 to combat someone in a hang-glider.

About time someone actually gets what ‘Pay to win’ means. There is little to no wiggle room for interpreting p2w as far as I’m concerned. The term is exactly what it says, you are paying real currency for a gain over everyone else which results in you winning.

Watchwork Pick: Why No Response?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Moonjelly.3742

With all the claims flying around about how this pick is so much better than the others and gives an advantage I decided to do an experiment. Over the last 3 days I’ve hit 100 nodes, all regular, I skipped Rich.
Out of those 100 nodes, I got 0 extra hits of ore. Instead I got a sprocket.
Average of sprockets: 1 sprocket out of every 3 nodes.

Now let’s look at the price of copper-orcichalcum. Those ores as a single unit on the TP is at the time of writing this out:

Copper: 34c
Silver: 44c
Iron: 1s 5c
Gold: 1s 27c
Platinum: 1s 76c
Mithril: 27c
Orichalcum: 4s 85c

Price of a sprocket: 39c

So it’s clear that giving up that chance at an extra hit of ore is a general loss rather than a gain. Unless sprockets jump up to more than what Platinum is sitting at (as it’s a normal node), you aren’t getting something more than others. Granted this is just from what I have seen, but it isn’t as fantastical as people seem to think it is.

Well with the story being rubbish, and the fun being on a lag server just to whack at a boss that drops rubbish….

Of course, what do you expect white knights?

WHITE KNIGHT LOGIC: “It’s not ANet’s fault for these unpopular patches… it’s the players fault for not liking this short unpopular patches. Clearly it’s the customer fault for not receive whatever is thrown at us.”

OUR BAD WHITE KNIGHTS, OUR BAD

Your tantrum aside, this all boils down to personal opinion. That being said, either side of the fence arguments on something doesn’t make anyone right or wrong. Vocal minority doesn’t speak for quiet majority, so who knows what the other hundreds of thousands of people who play (and avoid the forums like the plague) think.

It’s one thing to voice constructive criticism in a mature manner, but to throw a hissy fit like a spoiled 4 year old brat isn’t going to get anyone anywhere. This entitled attitude that every content patch MUST contain something that everyone and their little brother will enjoy is strange to say the least.

Anyway, to the OP: I am enjoying the patch thus far. The scene with Kasmeer and Marjory was very well written, and what is going on with Rox and Braham I’m really interested to see how that turns out. Plus that little Asura is so kitten cute, I want a mini of her!

A couple things I really am not happy with though. The timers need to be far more frequent and sync up with each other for the first few days at least. Give enough time for everyone to group and get sorted out before the encounter, but having to wait around for 1-2 hours inbetween is tedious, and I foresee a lot of people losing interest very quickly.
Also Wurm event could really use to be tweaked (champ spawns are loopy). Not saying it needs to be mindless whack-a-mole, but as it stands now the fight is quite a mess.

Mystery Coffers

Moonjelly.3742

Anyone got some unique drops from them?
I’ve opened a little over 100 and all I got were items already found in Match Win chests. Post for science!

P.S. Confirmation window sucks!

Edit: To summarize – unique items from these coffers consist of r60 (Hawk), r70 (Frozen) and r80 (Bramble) weapons. Haven’t seen any other sets from these ranks dropping but ‘named’ weapons like Wing Shield (r70) can drop so we can assume it’s a possibility.
If you don’t want to do [too much] RNG you can buy T2 culturals for 3,5g and salvage them into Phoenix Tokens then craft a weapon of your choice. Same goes for Nightmare dungeon armor for 20g and Dragon Tokens.

With the talk about tokens got me thinking and I went and took a look at my pvp locker and every single token I got from the mystery coffers are tournament tokens. So I can confirm all the armor is Match Win only, as are most of the weapons like you said.

Mystery Coffers

in PvP

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

I really can’t understand the logic behind the Mystery Coffer contents.

Since Crafting (and originally Rank) is going to disappear, this thing was supposed to supply us with all the Weapons and Armors that aren’t buyable separately (i.e. Dungeon and Cultural).
But, instead of dropping random unattainable equipment from any rank as they were supposed to, they seem to only drop stuff not higher than R40, except a handful of rare Weapon types (such as Frozen, Bramble, Hawk), making it nearly impossible to get all the R50+ Weapons and Armors that aren’t sold separately.

As of right now, the only way to get, say, Rank 60 Weapons, is to buy a bunch of R60 Dungeon Armors and salvage them, until you’ve got enough Tokens to craft what you want; I can’t imagine this ankward situation to be intentional, since Crafting is soon to disappear anyway.

Was there an oversight about this?

I don’t really understand it either.

I opened up 90+ boxes today and while I wasn’t thinking everything was going to be a gem as this is RNG, I didn’t really get anything I haven’t seen before in pvp. It appears that they actually have a rank cap on what armor could be obtained in these boxes and things like Flame Legion, Ascalon, Nightmare, etc wouldn’t be included.

In terms of rare things all I got 1-2 pieces from each armor type from Orrian, Kodan, and Inquest. 3 Kodan weapons, 3 Orrian weapons, 1 Bramble hammer, and 6 Nightmare weapons. The dozens of other items I got (the general pve karma style armor) I just salvaged.

They made it quite clear last year that the holiday events will largely be the same each year. This has nothing to do with the Living Story.

Also keep in mind all the rage about them having a new story for Halloween this year compared to last.

Anet said the idea was that they’d use holiday (and festival events) as a buffer for releases because they already had a foundation that they could improve on. They didn’t say they’d just reuse the old events and not add anything new.

They also didn’t say they would be updating it every time the event rolled around either. This event goes for 6 weeks, so who knows what is in store for us this time around and a patch or two in.

Personally I think an update to the event (new activities, rewards, etc) every other year is reasonable. What I don’t want to see is these turning into static events where nothing changes within 4-7 years like another game I shall not mention.

Does Anet need more time?

Posted by: Moonjelly.3742

Moonjelly.3742

I’ve been thinking about this too, and personally I think they need a testing group of players. Either open up a ptr, or select a group of very active players outside ANet to help.

As a general rule I’m on the side of ANet, but this patch was a disaster with things that shouldn’t have happened: no way point in the story mode fractal, glitches, bugs aplenty, etc.
I honestly believe that they can keep on with their schedule and still release quality content, but they seriously need outside player testing and constructive criticism before releasing patches.
People giving feedback on bugs, what we want to see, things they should never do again, etc, after release isn’t the proper way to go as far as I’m concerned. I also really feel for those whose job it is to go through the forums to gather info. There is so much nonsensical seething hatred floating around (which is an MMO problem to begin with), it has to be tough to separate the helpful from the blind rage.

As for uneven balance between classes I have yet to see a single game where everything is properly balanced. It’s a never ending juggling act, even for games that have been out for almost a decade.
I agree that some are crazy overpowered over others. But as someone who has played underdog turned over powered and back again classes over the years, we just have to try to slog through the changes.

I bought the the human t3 for my mesmer, sans the helm piece, about a month ago. I spent weeks farming gold to get it, and after seeing the gem store version I’m not happy about it, but I’m not surprised.
I’ve been close to entirely desensitized to seeing armor skins I worked my kitten off to get weeks or months (either via pvp or pve) re-skined or re-released and readily available to anyone down the road.

I seriously hope Anet stops and thinks this practice over, I am sick of seeing this happen in every MMO I play, and it’s not an acceptable path to take to make money. Use those really nice effects (even if it is overused fire themed) on something new, not a rehash, especially something that should remain a race exclusive.

800 gems for only 2 pieces?

Why bother complaining about this?

If you like it and think it’s worth it, buy it. If you don’t like it and think it isn’t worth it, don’t buy it. This is not a strange concept, and choices are a good thing to have.

Because if enough people buy it, they will think it is okay to overprice items in the gem store…

As I posted on Dulfy: In comparison to other games $5 for a single piece skin isn’t really out of line. Blizzard charges $15 for a single helm skin, SWTOR 1 piece starts at around $2.50, Rift close to the same, Tera as well is $6 or more.
Now, are these particular shoulders and gloves worth $5.00 (if you use that to get gems) each? That’s something that is a person to person thing to decide on.

It isn’t much better for females either : / I was hoping to get the shoulder skin for my guardian, but when I previewed them it turns out they look terribly wonky.

Well what the heck happened to that mentality? Why do you guys feel like you are entitled to guaranteed items?

Gem store gambling is a great business decision and I hope Anet continues with it to encourage exclusivity with certain items. The fact that you guys keep buying chests when there is a low chance just shows how much it’s working.

Not everyone feels ‘entitled’ to something. It isn’t so much that people are complaining after opening 5 boxes they got nothing, but there seem to be many who are opening 50-100+ and seeing nothing. Sure you can claim, ‘Well it’s RNG, it’s a gamble, what do you expect!?!?’, but one needs to draw a line somewhere between a gamble and what is done as a blatant money grab with virtually no return.

The fact is, if you make these things this hard to obtain via the chests, hundreds or perhaps thousands of players won’t trust ANet after this, and their future chest promotions will be passed by without giving it another thought.
Look how many people remember the Halloween skin thing and won’t bother with this now, and those who were not around for Halloween are learning with this that it just isn’t worth it.
In the end, it means less revenue for ANet.

Honestly it would be far better when they do promotions like this, if they raise the drop rate of better items other than things like the xp while crafting boosts, mobile bank, type items. At least give people something useful to make it feel like it’s actually worth it to ‘gamble’ our gold/gems/real currency away.

You may not get it TODAY but if these skins are so amazing that you want them to be your #1 priority, you’ll get them eventually, and it won’t require contributing to the upkeep of the game (via RMT). Come on guys, this thread is in the same dang forum the lords of the universe brag about making 10-30g per hour. That’s gonna add up to quite a few sets of 5 keys over the next few months… If you want them.

There is absolutely no guarantee you will get them eventually. This is an RNG based thing, one that if you aren’t dripping in luck, chances are you won’t ever see it. You could spend thousands of gold and/or hundreds of real currency trying and have nothing to show for it in the end.
Myself, I spent the gold I had saved and bought a few gems to try and ended up after 97 chests with no ticket.
Nobody put a gun to my head and made me spend what I did, but I will say that after that many boxes opened, I feel slightly jipped only having 4 hair style kits and a few boosts to show for the number of boxes I opened. But lesson learned, I won’t ever participate in an RNG fiasco like this.

Honestly I would have much rather taken the gold I used for keys, and even bought gems to trade for gold, to support my fellow players by buying the tickets or skins from them on the TP if ANet hadn’t gone and made these account bound instead of BoU like every other event skin set.

Also as someone else said, how long do you think these skins are going to be around? I would bank on it being a month or so, no longer going by all the other event type skins that have been offered in the game.

I guess I was a bad Norn this year as I got nothing either Went on the first toon I logged onto today to get my present and I was in the LA overflow when I talked to Tixx.

However, a friend of mine got his just fine and was also in the overflow at LA. Seems to be rather hit and miss whether or not you get the gift.
