Server population is not players online at that time, it’s players registered to that server.
Yes, it’s full of accounts of people who aren’t playing.
You keep repeating this, in every thread, several times a day, but it is not true.
Otherwise how do you explain servers keep going down from full to heavy in the mornings, and back up again every evening?
People switch server. it’s still free, but you have to wait 7 days to do it again.
Do you really think there’s that many people playing at 8am on a tuesday?
I know there is.
I actually play in the mornings, and there’s always groups running and active WvW.
People are not transferring servers every day in the morning, and then back again in the evening. For obvious reasons, there is a 1 week cooldown.
Your obsession with trying to make everything think “full” servers are somehow empty is interesting.
EDIT: Oh look, you edited your post.
They look and feel empty. I believe he is right btw, it will say high pop in the morning and LA will even be pretty empty.
I still play it when I want so I don’t miss it.
I’m very disappointed with GW2 though. Why in the world did they take the best class system in the genre and turn it into the worst?
If you aren’t into pvp, exploration, collecting cosmetic items or dungeons but rather have focus on levels and grind then this is the wrong game. Sure there’s some optional grind there but that’s the thing it’s optional. You make your own fun in this game using what is there, you aren’t told that you ‘need this or that’.
The PvP and exploration are so basic though. There is next to no customization for the classes and exploring the world isn’t even exploring. It’s a checklist on a map. It’s not adventurous, it’s like going to a theme park.
If you are under the impression that ticking all the poi, vistas etc on a map to get 100%=exploration sure.
Except it doesn’t- the coolest things in the game can only be found by actual exploration and have no tick box attached to them- look around, forget about your mimi-map and you might be surprised that it is not as basic as you seem to think.
There is no sense of danger at all though. Exploring just isn’t fun for me when it’s impossible to have any kind of real failure. I mean what’s the point, just to have it done? It’s pretty tedious imo.
I like exploring to be an adventure. GW2 feels more like an introduction to mmos than an actual game.
This response apply to all you QQ’ing people .
Dont like game? Dont play it! Do us as favor.
Fans of crappy games have been saying this for years.
Be careful what you wish for.
Good Luck OP. I hope you find a game that suits your playstyle.
Rift is doing a very good job of scaleable/soloable dungeons, maybe a free trial is worth a look for you.
Rift have soloable dungeons? What did you smoke? oO
They are called chronicles and they helped get you over the hump at 50. They weren’t that great though imo.
But they were there and some people do like them. Choices are good.

Anet hyped this game like crazy and simply didn’t deliver.
They deserve the complaints. Also, making posts telling others to stop making posts is futile.
Any mmo where you have to work to find people to play with is a badly designed mmo. As for guilds, most have died due to a massive decrease in population.
This game is stuck in the past in all the wrong areas and made changes to all the wrong things.
Diablo players wanted silly gear farming game like diablo 2 and they got gear farming. I wanted PvP game where everybody can get best gear just like that and now they try to force me do some crappy dungeon.
Actually D3 fans got gear BUYING, not farming. They neutered loot drops so people needed to spend real money to progress.
This is why D3 is the worst game released this year, maybe ever. GW2 might be a crappy mmo, but it’s not as bad of a money grab as D3 was.
Potential buyers have a right to know the game is just a shell of an actual mmo with no depth.
How many are playing less? The vast majority of people.
Why? The game is a pretty shell of an mmo with bad design decisions and no depth.
GW2 is such a massive disappointment. Now they are floundering and starting to copy WoW.
I can’t believe this is the same company that made GW1 considering the mind boggling design decisions in GW2. The world has all the excitement of a shopping mall.
We just ask ArenaNet to give us back what was promised for GW2, and what most people bought the game for.
Good luck with that. Their sales hype for this game was just shameful. SO much of what they said pre release is simply false. They lied to make money, they aren’t the 1st or the last but they knew they had to considering the actual state of GW2.
(edited by MrThebigcheese.2014)
Forming groups manually is not socializing. It’s mindless spam, nothing more.
Could you imagine if GW2 had in depth classes/content like GW1? It would be pretty awesome.
But beginners need an mmo too so Anet made them one. From a business standpoint I guess it was a good move. Easy sells.
GW2 is more of a paint by numbers experience. It really does lack character.
They didn’t remove the trinity. They simply made 2/3 weak, gave you a dodge and let the derping begin.
“Do they insist on dumbing this game down to a ridiculous level?”
Yes.
I determined that Guild Wars 1 was design for intelligent people who enjoy a decent game.
Guild Wars 2 was designed to the mass and sadly most people lack intelligence.
So true. It’s such a disappointment.
Between the hacking of accounts and the endless army of bots I think GW2 wins the worst security ever award.
This game has been torn apart.
Better not to turn this into another botting thread. Constantly repeating the same prescriptions just isn’t useful and if you do have some unique angle on the problem (unlikely), send a PM to support.
Potential buyers should know what kind of state the game is in.
Your friend was right Sushi, there is nothing to look forward to. You’ve already seen it all. Not being sarcastic, go read Anet’s article “the endgame reimagined” where they tell you to go do the leveling zones again because “the whole game is endgame”. Yeah it’s lame.
“For instance, in GW2 a Warrior has 72 skills, all of them being useful.”
Good one.
You are also forgetting that you are locked into presets with the weapon skills. You don’t actually build a character in GW2, you work within the limited presets provided.
All the talk about progression and getting bored comes down to 1 thing:
GW2 simply isn’t that fun to play for people who are good at mmos. There is no depth to the classes and there is no character building (you work with very limited presets). The vast majority of the content is auto-win easy.
These things cause people to get bored. GW1 didn’t have stat progression but people were not getting so bored so quickly because the complexity of the classes allowed for a much bigger variety in gameplay. There were also elite areas to challenge larger groups (8 players).
I think this is the real problem with GW2. They over streamlined to the point where everyone is just wandering around going through the motions with classes that offer very little variety.
TLDR: If the game was more fun people wouldn’t be struggling to find reasons to log in.
EQ2 said they will never ever institute a PvP Server and covering everything that you said (yes I did read it). They said this countless times. Guess what? They made like 3-4 PvP servers after folks like me insisted. If you never ask for anything, you will never get anything or ever get recognized.
EQ2’s target audience wasn’t noobs.
Actually you are probably Ultra Casual and that is ok, this game suits you. We, the Real PvPer’s want the same equality. We actually love this game as well and would thoroughly enjoy it more if they opened a “True Red Faction Based Server”.
Why is the world filled with people who some how believe that it is necessary to stop others from obtaining a goal when they have zero claim or anything at stake? Don’t try to hold us down, instead step aside or maybe even assist in what we would like to have. I would do no less for you.
I wasn’t saying ultra casual is a good thing. It was a criticism of the game, not a defense.
Your rant is ignorant. I like world PvP. This game will never, ever add it though. GW2 is for beginners.
I find the idea of someone who plays GW2 calling them self a “real pvper” hilarious.
GW2 is ultra casual. World PvP is not ultra casual.
That’s it really.
GW2 simply isn’t a cohesive game. It’s a bunch of ultra casual activities loosely tied together and the classes are far too limited to provide any lasting entertainment. The “everybody wins” mentality has been taken to an extreme, to the point where everything is pointless because it’s so easy you just go through the motions.
Ultra casual/easy content + watered down classes = boring theme park.
Games have been made so easy that communication is no longer necessary. GW2 is one of the worst offenders. Everything is so easy and simple everyone is just wandering around going through the motions.
GW2 is the most social MMO I ever played, it lets you play with others without any social interaction
Fixed.
Tombs was in but the Uber hardcore elite PvP guilds were the only ones who ever went there
FoW and UW came in an expansion
FoW and UW were not released with an expansion and were available on release I’m pretty sure. They were there when I got to 20 shortly after release anyways.
There is more volume of content in GW2, it’s just all more or less the same and very simple in nature.
Max level was 20 and there were elite areas on release (or very soon after I suppose, it did take me a little time to get there).
Gohlar Presuming someone is a bad player because he/she doesn’t want to conform to a particular build for a dungeon run is just silly. If anything, odds are they are pretty good because they want to challenge themselves with an unknown and untested playstyle. Doing successful dungeon runs in GW1 was largely dependent on your builds. There was some skill involved with timing and positioning, but overall it was a very repetitive thing.
That is literally what makes a good player in this type of game. Learning what to do. It’s not like there is any twichy skill or anything involved.
Besides, FoW, SF and other areas could easily be completed with a variety of different group make ups. UW and some other areas were harder but that’s ok. Everyone doesn’t HAVE to get a trophy. If you can’t even try the areas, as the guy said himself, you’re bad. You lack basic skills to group up with other people to overcome challenges.
Suggesting it was impossible to do the areas is just silly and anyone saying that is just making excuses.
GW2 is designed for the lowest common denominator and that to me is a shame.

… why should people “create an alt and explore the rest of the content” or even bother getting 100% on their main, IF they don’t enjoy what they’ve already experienced in GW2?
The main reason I quit was due to an inability to find anyone ta do anything with.. and I’ve got 2 lv80’s ~ a Necro and Elementalist ~ 6 crafting professions at lv400.. and yet like the screenshot I’ve attached to this, you can see that I’ve not gotten past lv26 on my personal stories nor any more than 44% on world completion.
I’ve been to Orr, I’ve fought dragons and I’ve died in dungeon..
Long story short, not even server hoping or guild prostituting helped me find anyone that wanted to actually “experience” the game.. despite server hoping to more “populated” servers for a few weeks.
So why do people troll the forums when they’re already moved on from the game? Go play Dark Souls… or xcom, TL2, BL2 or any of the other awesome games that are out now.
Why do you tell people to not give criticism? Just pointing out the circular nature of that argument.
On a side note, Xcom is excellent and I am going to go play it right now so maybe you’re right lol.
100% wrong Jest. GW1 was tons of fun and getting to level 20 took no time at all.
GW2 is a shiny shell of an actual game for people who don’t want or need any depth. I suppose some people can enjoy wandering around zerging stuff with their preset character, but tons will get very bored very quickly.
You are right this is a common complaint lately. Recent mmos haven’t been very good and they haven’t delivered on endgame. GW2 is just like them, which is a shame.
(edited by MrThebigcheese.2014)
essentially yes, I want that feeling of progression and working towards something rather than having it all handed to you on a plate.
Wrong game then.
GW2 PvE is like TES, you complete the main story and then it’s all about discovering and enjoying the game itself.
They removed the ability to really build a character.
They removed the holy trinity.
They removed progression.
And they replaced it with…..zergs. Honestly once the new and shiny wears off there isn’t much left but to wander around a theme park world pretending to be an explorer. It’s no fun exploring when everything is so easy and streamlined imo. It’s more like being a tourist than an adventurer.
Bottom line is they removed the best parts of the previous game and replaced them with mainstream, themepark elements that are closer to WoW than GW1.
Again, the gutted classes don’t help either.
(edited by MrThebigcheese.2014)
Why are you facerolling content that’s too easy instead of going to a different map in the appropriate level bracket?
I was referring to “The Endgame reimagined”, an article from Anet that suggested their entire game is the endgame.
It was an insult to everyone’s intelligence honestly.
Do I even need to comment on the “level appropriate” area for 80s? It’s a disaster.
It’s worth 60 bucks, but it’s a pretty weak mmo. I really don’t like the new insanely simplified classes. Such a gigantic step backwards from not only the 1st game, but for the genre in general.
I feel classes are a hollow shell of their GW1 counterparts.
Prepare to be disappointed with GW2’s PvE. It’s like the leveling up content in other games and that’s it.
You will be told to go back to earlier zones and repeat the same faceroll easy DEs. Because repeating content that was already easy the 1st time is Anet’s definition of endgame. I wish I was joking, I am not at all.
The biggest problem with the game’s PvE is that Anet designed themselves into a corner by making classes so restricted and shallow.
The 1st Guild Wars didn’t have progression but it had 2 things GW2 doesn’t.
Compelling, difficult group instances.
A deep combat/skill system.
Dungeons are not implemented well in this game imo. I suspect most agree considering how empty the entrances are. UW and FoW were a lot more fun, partially because of the zones but mostly because of the far superior classes.
Classes in GW2 are very restrictive. They have less depth than just about any other game in the genre. Weapon skills were a terrible idea, and the customization you do have is very uninspiring. This is a gigantic step backwards not only for the series, but for the genre.
I think this is the real problem with Guild Wars 2. It simply isn’t that fun to play with such simple, restricted classes. They streamlined everything so much we are left with a pure paint by numbers experience and it simply gets old really, really quickly.
No, that isn’t true. Blizzard intentionally made dungeons easier to accommodate LFG groups. They’ve said so numerous times. Today’s dungeons aren’t in any sense of the word challenging, even before you gear up. Neither were Cataclysm’s dungeons. There’s really no ambiguity, here.
Wrong. Cata dungeons were pretty challenging on release and had to be nerfed significantly before people stopped complaining
A lot of people fail to realize that a lot of vanilla WoW wasn’t that hard, they just had no idea how to play.
Either way people pretend a grouping tool effects a lot more than it actually does. It’s a good feature, dungeons in this game are already dead.
You’re funny Tol, you’re in your own little world. Nothing you just said is even true lol.
Eh, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and figured you were getting all riled up because you care about the game. Obviously you’re the other sort.
You are coming off as absolutely desperate to convince yourself anyone with criticism is somehow at fault.
It’s both sad and funny at the same time.
I think he was replying to Ronin, not you mate.
I know, just sharing an observation. He’s trying way to hard.

Fanboys are unable to be reasonable so they tell themselves nonsense like the OP here to make themselves feel better.
It comes off as pretty desperate imo. Assuming so much about so many is obviously dumb.
But hey, that’s what keeps these forums entertaining.
Ever play GW1? Man the classes and builds put GW2 to shame. GW2 is more like mmo lite.
I played GW1 constantly from May 2005 onwards. I honestly like GW2’s professions better. GW1 consisted mainly of “If you’re not running Dragon Slash or Discordway, you lose.” That’s nowhere near “putting GW2 profs to shame”.
I already know how biased you are so I’ll simply tell you that your statement is 100% incorrect and wish you luck using the very, very limited skill set in GW2 while pretending it’s better.
You guys who like burgers keep coming to the chinese restaurant complaing you want burgers. Wong’s is right next to a Burger Barn for god’s sake. Go there. Quit telling Wong he needs to server burgers.
This.
I, for one, could never go back to tank/heal/dps gameplay. Watching paint dry seems more interesting than that after GW2’s combat.
Ever play GW1? Man the classes and builds put GW2 to shame. GW2 is more like mmo lite.
I wish GW2 had big, difficult, instanced zones designed for larger groups. There were several awesome zones in GW1 that were very challenging. The Underworld and Fissure of Woe kept people busy for a long time.
The challenging content in GW2 is dungeons and it’s only challenging because we’re all more or less dps classes with crappy utility. It’s only hard because we don’t have the tools for the job. Yes you can run around and kite and trade agro, but that’s not a good kind of difficulty imo.
Zsymon, get back to us in a few days after you get bored of using the same few skills forever. GW2 classes offer less than any other mmo I have ever played.
Nobody’s pretending bots are a good thing.
But nobody in their right mind would call farming fun, or the opposition to it “bad game design.”
Farming is not fun. Getting what we worked for is fun. When we are being stripped away of that option, then we are being stripped away of some of the fun as well.
Seriously,if I want to get my warrior’s proffessions to 400, then I shouldn’t have to change zones every so often. I want to stay in one kitten place and farm the mobs that give the items I need. If I want mithril and poison sacks, then I should be able to farm mithril and poison sacks.
You are supposed to wander around aimlessly doing whatever is in front of you because that’s Anet’s idea of fun.
Otherwise you are having fun wrong.
Nobody’s pretending bots are a good thing.
But nobody in their right mind would call farming fun, or the opposition to it “bad game design.”
If you could learn the difference between an opinion and a fact that would be great. Thanks.
I don’t mind the anti farm code so much myself, but it’s insane to me that the bots are dictating game design, which they most certainly are.
I’ve noticed the more zealous the fanboy, the deeper the flaws in game.
Dusk, you have your work cut out for you because this game has some serious flaws. Other games don’t have to balance around bots. But you keep pretending it’s a good thing.
for a duller experience than GW2 with less dynamic stuff and more spoonfed poop
I’m not defending WoW, but GW2 is as spoonfed as it gets. I mean seriously, the classes are a shell of their GW1 counterparts. This game is so theme park it hurts.
(edited by MrThebigcheese.2014)
I'm about to start doing PVP in ernest. In your opinion, which class should I play?
Posted by: MrThebigcheese.2014
Play Thief or Mesmer like everyone else. Game isn’t well balanced between the classes.
