Hai.
So, I have a legit question (#realtalk).
Back when there was competition, we used to play Guild Wars 2 a lot.
There was this thing called “Paid Tournaments” and we’ve spent over 20k gems just to play the kitten game (because Free’s were just a joke with no skill involved) which resulted in accumulating a certain amount of QP’s.
Now, let me confirm something. Are you telling me, my dear developers of my beloved game, that we’ve spent 20.000 gems for a “Legend of the Arena” title or can I actually get something for my points?
Thank you.
Much love,
Naito.
Not a big fan of the guy, however, what do you expect?
You pretty much make an official statement threating lives of people by bringing a firearm. Joke or not, that ban was absolutely deserved.
Imagine this situation: there’s going to be a party next week and you are invited. However, you do not like that some dude is going to be there as well. So, you say that you’re gonna come and beat up him up. What would be the appropriate way of handling this situation? That’s right: not letting you in, because you’d just ruin all the fun.
Now, Helseth brought it to the next level.
Talk kitten — get hit. Simple as that.
Absolutely agree.
Logged in just to say how kittening good this is.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do.
Unless Anet starts to do their kitten job, this game will keep dying.
It’s all in their hands, believe it or not.
Exactly. You could’ve done much more. Sword #2 right after distortion, blink with staff. Instead of all that you started a pointless thread.
As expected.
But yeah, since you posted it because it was “a fun moment from your stream”, whatevs.
Peace.
I like how people run full glass cannon builds, kitten up their invulnerabilities (just like Helseth did, nice observation, Miku) and expect not to get one-shotted by a single-target burst class.
I almost spilled my coffee when I opened your necromancer build.
Thanks for the good laugh. Not as good as the Glamour/Condition mesmer. I can go make guides about classes I don’t play (7 of them) with the help of a builder and a lot of theorycrafting. Then I’d pretend it to be good.
Hello Nim <3
Your loss =\
Naito, NA > EU <3
The Necro builds are laughably bad. Really. This gotta take the prize as worst conceived guide I’ve read in a long, long time.
Here is my the build i personally use and yes I main necro (hate it love it).
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNArYWjMat7xbSb87JApCPH9g4gTm6R5pfOA;TsAAzCpo+y8l4L7XuvkftqYUxcBA
I was just adding builds that some players used and did well with. All three of those builds are great but are mainly to get focused down, survive, yet do absurd damage (the NA necro meta). One of you posters said that GM trait for scepter is a must take, it is honestly not that great when you can get more survivability when you know 4 people will focus you every single game. However, I personally take the trait because I play passive agressive and fits my playstyle.
That build is terrible.
Nothing personal.
But the build I saw after I clicked that link was terrible. Absolute trash.
I almost spilled my coffee when I opened your necromancer build.
Thanks for the good laugh.
Naito, thanks for insulting a team of r10’s for not learning anything after being stomped by CN. I think people reading this will be really encouraged to hop into pvp when they read your post.
How is that “insulting”?
I am simply stating the fact that this match up is not beneficial for them as well.
They don’t really learn anything after being stomped and we are not getting any practice either.
Now, let me explain myself.
For example, there are 4 teams. Team A, B, C, and D. (I decided not to mention team names to avoid drama and kitten). Three of them are kind of well-known.
In the past 2 weeks, team A has never won against us, team B managed to win 1 time, same with team C, and team D is full of ranks 10 straight outta hot-join. We have a positive win-ratio against all of them. And by positive I mean 10 to 1 or even zero. So, our hidden MMR is obviously higher.
So, we are in a queue for about 10 minutes, we get paired with Team B and we end up winning. We join another queue and while we wait for it to pop, both Team B and Team A are playing against each other. After the game between Team B and A is finally over, they instantly queue up and we expect to face one of them, our queue pops and guess what…it’s Team D full of r10’s while Team A and B are in the same match again.
So, while semi-good and good teams are playing constantly, our team is forced to have 30 min long queues to fight teams who won’t even learn anything after losing to us.
I’d rather go back to having old 8-team paid queues every day for 4-5 hours than this.
Not with the current staff working on the pvp system.
Great post, some great points in here.
We know a lot of this, but a lot of times we can’t speak to specific plans to fix things. We also know full well what’s good in the meta (or OP). We sometimes just can’t reveal what we’re thinking about balance until our lists go final.
A lot of people assume that silence = ignorance, and often times, that’s not the case.
Great read! Enjoyed it.
Really?
How can you explain the fact, that it took you 3 months to fix the gamebreaking mace block bug on guardians? Svanir runes? The fact that elementalists have been overpowered for the past 4 months? Engineer viability? Gem rewards? Portal abuse? Ridiculous amount of useless traits and skills? Unnecessary nerfs (such as guardian spirit weapons. It was the only way for guardians to somewhat counter eles on a point fight. Try to lock down with a s. hammer out of the point while chaining CC’s with a hammer. Against mediocre eles you could even full cap the point (and the majority of eles who managed to get into the top50 QPs are actually kittenbad). But apparently, spirit shield was too op in fractals, that’s why you nerfed all spirit weapons to the ground. They are simply useless now.) It’s not that we expect you to say things, we expect you to DO things. And you’re doing neither.

We were playing ridiculous setups, taking off armor and stuff.
This is just not fun at all.
But the worst part is, that after 1 week, that map will be added to the main rotation, which means that we will need 16 teams to start 1 paid tournament.
Not even mentioning the fact that you didn’t do kitten about class balance.
But congrats to PvE players. They’ve got a huge update. The update pvp community’s been waiting for 6 months now.
+1 from Naito

Can ArenaNet reimburst us with free gems for this crap?
This is unacceptable.
No, it needs to be free to play.
Otherwise it won’t attract enough players, simply because when you pay money for the game, you are making a commitment. When it’s free, you can just try it out with your friends, keep playing it more and more, spectate pro-matches and even start spending money on cosmetics and “fun stuff”.
But yeah, something needs to be done.
Oh, and Radom wasn’t even on his main
It’s the QT team transferred to EU. Ofc their ranks are low.
Back to the topic.
Some info about the screenshot below:
It was a 4×5 game with 2 pugs (main team is Radom, Purie and me), our fifth managed to re-connect almost at the very end of the match.
Also, look at the point difference: we were basically farming them after the first teamfight instead of controlling 3 bases and giving them ~500-50.
Aaaaand I managed to make 2 cups of tea meanwhile.
Screenshot is ~1-2 weeks old btw.
NA so gud!
Hey, Jonathan! You want this game to bring money? You probably do. So, listen up.
I am sure as hell not as qualified as your PvP design team (heh), but I want this game to succeed because I like it and I want to go pro.
Make Heart of the Mists free to play.
What does it mean?
You can create an account for free, download the “pvp part” of the game which includes: heart of the mists(duh), 3 tournament maps, 5 hotjoin maps and whatever (hopefully) comes within the next month i.e. ladder, spectator mode, custom servers etc. and have access to pee vee pee with no restrictions. You won’t be able to even complete the first quest in PvE, though.
This way people can just jump right into the game and have fun in hotjoin. Once they feel like they actually want to try and play the game more consciously, they can find a team, try playing free/paid tournaments, spend their hard earned gems in the gem store (hopefully, fully reworked with lots of cosmetic armor, weapon skins etc) and maybe even buy the game for the PvE part of it.
What will we get out if:
Crazy amount of new players trying such innovative pvp game, kittenes going crazy over the cuteness of asuras, new blood for tournaments, more build ideas, better community.
What will Jonathan get out of it:
MONEY
Naito for Anet pvp department, yay!
Discuss.
p.s. I’m world first in QP ladder. My opinions matter.

Call me when you’re World First.
The whole US paid tourney scene is a joke. You are 2 months behind the meta. I’ve watched all your streams, you are utterly bad. Shut it.
This thread is boring.
Angry americans are angry.
I kind of agree with Ace of Spades.
This thread is so boring that I can’t even be annoyed to make a proper response.
I like pies.
Hello everyone! Zoose here, avid PvPer and GW2 fanatic! I’d just like to input the fact that there is a lot of negativity on these forums, and games tend to do or die from their communities. Let’s all be a bit more positive and happy about things. Your fixes will come soon, not everything is perfect, and things will fall into place eventually. In the mean time, enjoy the game, theorycraft, figure out some counters and play to your best ability!
I personally find that this game has an extreme amount of flexibility. At a top tier level this game still allows you to be flexible. There are teams that are successful running every class in this game. Don’t lose hope for your class. There’s always a way, friends. : ]
>Let’s all be a bit more positive and happy about things.
About what exactly am I supposed to be happy? Any specific “things”?
> Your fixes will come soon
Highly unlikely. We’ve been waiting for them since day 1.
>this game has an extreme amount of flexibility.
H@H@H@H@H@H@H@. Oh, I am sorry, were you being serious?
>There are teams that are successful running every class in this game.
On NA — probably. But everybody knows EU is months ahead of NA.
Even tho I appreciate your attempt to keep up our spirits but the Guild Wars 2 future as a competitive game is really, REALLY grim.
Cool hot join, meng.
I could play with no traits allocated and no armor runes and I’d still win there.
(edited by Naito.5693)
This dmg is so OP plz nerf.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxp_CTaZDD0Sidenote: I think Engie nades need more nerfing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7r5aT8gHaUBut don’t touch thief; thief is fine.
Below average player is trying to give his opinion on something he doesn’t even understand.
Oh boy.
Can’t queue up for tournaments. Having so much wintersday fun right now!
Go esports!
Naked clones.
During the past few days, while mesmers were broken, we witnessed many spectacular comps featuring warriors, double melee ranger tunnel-vision, condi ranger pressure, engi/double necro epidemic play.
I actually enjoyed this game much more without having to revolve team composition around an escape artist, which provides an aoe from hero to zero burst, CC’s, 10 seconds of aoe quickness, single target pressure and drastic improvement of team mobility.
Prior to 15th patch many people, including me, were expecting a mesmer nerf. Even a slight one. But you buffed them instead. I fail to understand your logic behind that.
Right now it all comes down to teamfights and not having a mesmer severely reduces your chances of winning that team fight. The effort it takes to aoe-cleave in Time Warp is nothing compared to proper CC chains, condi spread and target calling.
Stop killing the pvp game we’ve been waiting for years, Anet.
p.s. do something about thieves. This is getting ridiculous as well.

Just wanted to jump in and say that I’m reading this thread and taking it all in. Keep it civil (don’t get yourselves banned!
) and let those ideas flow.
I know some of you are upset with the change, but really, this is something we were planning for a while. WE MAY NOT LOCK DOWN utilities down the road, so that you can still have some adjustment when out of combat, but at the same time, we do not think weapon swapping mid-match is good for the overall health of the game. Just wanted to remind you we are here, and I am watching the forums, and your ideas are being heard.
Keep it constructive (and really, overall you guys are doing a FANTASTIC JOB OF THIS!), and carry on!
All I’m reading is “keep those ideas flowing, we’re here, we’re reading everything, however, we will still do whatever the kitten we want.”
And yeah, no kitten we’re doing a fantastic job. You, on the other hand, are not.
Can we just have the loading screen bug back, please?
Because you just took a huge portion of skill out of the game.
Thick, solid, tight.
<3 dual war <3
My teammates are forced to pay real money in order to play paid tournaments because even if we win, we are not getting anything in return.
This needs to be fixed asap.
You got me!

>Ability to win most 1v1s against any profession
You do realize that there are builds and there are counter-builds?
I heard you like lost shores, so we sent you 5 emails, put a nice advertisement in the corner of your screen, and made pvp a little worse so you will check out our neat little event!
^
So, we’ve played about 15 paid tournaments since the update and I’ve never seen this “1 out of 4” chance to win additional gems.
Seems legit, anet.
They owe us an update on their esport agenda, there are people who invested quite a lot of time/effort in this game because of Anet’s empty promises or esport.
This.
Hey all. My name is Chocapicc. I’m searching for people ready to train regular and develop themselves for higher lvl gaming. I’m from poland so english isnt my native language but don’t worry. Find me in the game: Chocapicc.8364 or write here your ID.
Teamspeak isn’t problem I can organise it too.
Invest in your Future.
I already invested 1000 hours in Guild Wars 2 and my esports future. The question is ArenaNet willing to invest into THEIR future? Doesn’t look like it right now.
(edited by Naito.5693)
You are actually making them win by playing the game right.
Stay with the main zerg, always help ressing, attack a few times if you see a downed player, stay on the point until it’s capped for +10.
That’s how you get points.
“Some of these games” didn’t promise huge e-sport support right from start.
This game did.
If you compare how good Guild Wars 1 tournaments were (and it was in 2006-2009 when the only e-sport discipline was starcraft and counter strike) to guild wars 2 you’d be disgusted by the quality of gw2 pvp.
(edited by Naito.5693)
Because we’ve been practicing for Guild Wars 2 MLG for 3 months now.
