Not only that but Maguuma got trolls that talk smack, be disruptive and intimidating to newcomers and newbies. Good luck getting people encouraged to keep coming out with that kind of attitude.
People making jokes in a videogame or explaining to a random new commander who decides to step into wvw for the first time what they could have done better don’t seem all that terrible to me. I don’t know what specifically you’re referring to, though.
A lot of people I rarely see in-game seem to have complaints about their own server. (Used to see you a lot Ninein, but it’s been quite a while).
“People making jokes” is like the polar opposite of reality. I have not seen these same trolls trying to explain anything. It’s either “bad commander you suck” or “get off our server you suck” kind of thing.
I literally have not seen this bad commander you suck" or “get off our server you suck” kind of thing for weeks. On Saturday when a newly transferred commander tried to take the reigns, mumble was nothing but a teaching class and telling him and other people what they did wrong and why. No one said he sucked (which he did) or the people who made blatant mistakes (like queuing an upgrade for east when we don’t own camps, have no supply, and still have a large number of enemies on the map, ultimately, that mistake cost us the keep), but we corrected them and moved on.
Well I’m glad there are helpfull people on Maguuma still. But this wasn’t always the case when I played up until a week ago. Anyways, just wanted to point out other possible contributing factor to fewer people in WvW.

-Maguuma
on magg even during prime time in our biggest zergs you are lucky if you see 3 people from the same guild. random 5 man guilds log in to wvw and look for commander symbols or orange x and that is how we wvw. the fact that we win any fight vs any organized servers with pvp guilds is almost embarrasing for them.
magummas biggest downfall is our guys cant get off the forums talking crap so we usually have the other 2 servers team up vs us to prove our trolls wrong. gg

Apparently T2 tactics came down to T3 too… Haven’t seen that in T3 and below.
-Maguuma
we only went to t4 in the first place because some commanders decided to stop defending stuff and refused to help take our stuff back instead camping jump puzle with 30+ people and haveing dance parties while spamming mapchat telling people not to defend or take towers back despite us having the numbers in map to do these things. maguma doesnt belong in t4 anymore and commamders tanking the matchup so we end up there and giving us a week of a boring match kills morale to people who like good fights
Sounds like you should transfer off to a server that suits your mentality better, may I suggest Kain?
I’m sure there’s fewer of you all with this “get off our server” mentality. You guys should transfer off.
-Maguuma
If you cannot stop a 80+ person zerg auto attacking doors something is clearly wrong on your end. (2 arrow carts.)
I’m pretty sure we have less than 80 people in all of WvW right now, so yeah, something is wrong on our end.
i quit when our big guilds like kitten tanked our last fight with fa and db so we could go back to t4 where we do not belong pretty sure that week in t4 killed our morale good job guys
What big guilds tanked fa and db?
did you miss the commanders in map chat telling people not to take stuff for the last 2 days of the match?
I didn’t see commanders tell people to not take stuff but I could see and sense people trying to tank that matchup. I was disappointed like gidorah. But whatever, people choose to play however they want.
-Maguuma
It’s more fun to choose a mascot for the other teams. here’s my pick for TC.
-Maguuma
He solo’s everytime we see him. A few minutes later his number of troops come, but always after 5 minutes or so.
It is either he’s roaming to look for us or… we always find him by accident.
That means his team is horribly out of position and hes trying (and evidently failing) to buy enough time so they can get to him. Which means that Maguuma team chat at the precise moment you took those screenshots is chock full of “bonyisms” – grossly disparaging (and hilarious) truisms about the sheer incompetence of all the people who don’t have super human Australian DNA. Like Bony.
I suspect C-bombs and other bombs were dropped.
The appropriate word for the late arrivals starts with the popular four letter word and ends with wits.
-Maguuma
Bony is awesome. He does so much with so few.
-Maguuma
Bony is not known to back pedal.
-Maguuma
Hey we can let people mindlessly stack servers to kill competition or we could try to encourage people to balance out the tiers…
-Maguuma
With BG heading to T1, T2 doesn’t need to be unbalanced by bandwagoning to Kaineng. TC, FA and even SOS if they stick around T2 could use people to balance out Kaineng.
-Maguuma
Lol people complained about there being lack of loot in WvW. Now there’s good loot, people still complain.
-Maguuma
Yea I was thinking more into the future. BG with all your transfers will probably ended up Blue and SOR will be red.
-Maguuma
Let’s help balance the tiers a bit and consider transfering to the red teams so their servers don’t collapse. SOR & TC are good candidates!
-Maguuma
Mag is a zerg server until we meet a bigger zerg server.
-Maguuma
This is not a one sided affair. You have the option to do the same. This change just made it so that a blob doesn’t have a full monopoly on the map. Towers/keeps will change hand more often. People will probably be only able to hold stuff that is close to their spawn point.
-Maguuma
It will take more work to hold onto a keep/tower. You can’t just blob and win. Small group of 20 people are now a force to be reckoned with.
It’s all relative though. In the lower tiers and off hours its now even easier to blob up and win.
Say you have 25 people per side, the defending side is not going to have enough men to cover their map in scouting and still hold off that attacking zerg. The attackers send a few thieves to contest 2 fake points, hit their real target with 20 people, its almost a sure ninja.
Eventually you probably get a 50/50 map. And maybe this is a way from Anet to purposely give disadvantage to the winning teams, to make defending harder (as if it isn’t thankless enough already), but seems like a lazy way out, excuse way of balancing.
In most tiers this is going to lead to less actual player vs player fighting, less ‘WvW’ and more PvDoor, more musical keep trading.
I think it will have the reverse affect. Now 25people can accomplish something. Before with 25people against a blob, you might as well pack it. If you’re remotely successful against the blob, they just treb you to death with swirling wind protection. Now 25people can make some dent in the map and encourage other people to come out and fight.

-Maguuma
The whole idea behind GW2 is to have fun. Being forced to sit in your own tower or keep because some thieves are putting white X’s on everything you own so you never know where to look… that isn’t fun. With 5 people required for orange you had a little bit of time luxury to check something out, but 20 – 25 can melt a door faster than you can run from “X” to “X”.
Why should defenders be rewarded for being lazy. If someone puts in the effort for subterfuge. They should be rewarded for their time.
-Maguuma
I like this change. Scouting is an underrated contribution to WvW. I hope they do away with swords altogether so that sneak attacks are possible and scouting becomes priority.
-Maguuma
You guys should set an example and transfer off to servers who lack coverage….Be the bigger man!
-Maguuma
This is going to be a cycle that repeats itself. Couple of months later SOR will be the victim of this cycle if they can’t break 3rd place.
-Maguuma
its a pity that guilds like these go from one stacked server, (that server then begins to crumble) to another stacked server, i feel like WM was the only big guild to not do that.
Well BG, goodluck in t1 again
Yeah, instead of ruining one or two tiers, WM decided to ruin almost every tier for many weeks. Much respect!
Not what i was going for but you do have a point, i was just saying that they were one of the very few large guilds that decided to move from a t1 server to a t8 server
They didn’t move for good reason either. I could’ve picked a reason out of a hat that was better then what they used.
-Maguuma
They should do away with scores and bring back orb of power that give tangible benefits to the entire server.
-Maguuma
You can never stack enough stacked servers to outstack other stacked servers.
-Maguuma
I am playing the devil’s advocate here but I am uneasy with people trying to torpedo the T3 matchup so that they can run over people in T4. If we went to T4 because we tried hard then fine but people were actively trying to lose which I find sad.
-Maguuma
Gloating is not fun when you outnumber your opponent 2:1. Looks like Mag needs to up our game to do better in T3.
-Maguuma
HE’s the guy with the rabbit ears.
-Maguuma
He is posting from the future.
-Maguuma
I can only imagine none of you played DAoC, or at least not well. There is an almost unlimited amount of potential for competitive roaming pvp, it just needs the people. I still am holding out hope that one day people will start to get bored and the competitive scene will start to really develop. I think it’s already in the early stages with the roaming guilds that are running multiple groups. With any luck, they will eventually start running single groups, and then we can have some great pvp.
Side effect of competitive roaming group is elitist attitudes. Not sure why they go hand in hand. Once DAOC servers got infested with competitive roaming groups, boy the mud slinging and kitten stroking was intense.
-Maguuma
while wvw is supposed to be imba fun, it’s nice to see the worst offenders removed :p Maybe put a short cooldown on gears in pve too (20s) since these consumables are quite finicky to use until a consumable action bar gets added
I tried teh spikeroot fruit and it now only has 1 charge before disappearing in PvE. I had seen someone spam it in WvW so looks like changes were made to nerf it in PvE too.
-Maguuma
Just wanted to ask, what’s Maguuma’s SEA/OCEANIC night time crew like?
It’s like Bony Charrk and random sleep deprived NA’ers
I logged in early one morning on a weekday to see who’s playing and I saw Bony and a bunch of guys who I see play regularly during NA primetime.
-Maguuma
The solution is to queue just one map instead of spreading population across multiple maps. It’ll even the playing field and put FA more on the defensive.
-Maguuma
I’d take DB over Magoobers any day. They at least understand how WvW works and don’t cry on the forums about how every fight isn’t 5v5 and call anything over 7 ppl a zergball.
Except we stink at forum warfare. I bet 90% of the thread posts are Mag and FA.
Step your game up noobs. Get your NNK dudes on here, there’s bunches of them lol.
In all honesty FA + DB = Greatest WvW server evar. The coverage would be almost perfect.
Shame we can’t make a marriage happen.
I bet you guys thought the same when IOJ married you guys. Then T2 happened.
-Maguuma
You’re trying to drop into T4?
I get that vibe at times.
-Maguuma
Of course this is not a swipe at the existing commanders as you guys have a lot on your shoulder and your stress level is much higher then the average player. Your effort in leading the server is much appreciated. Just pointing out how difficult it is for new commanders to learn on Maguuma.
-Maguuma
While I agree that that sentence isn’t right, I think his real point was that when people new to WvW come in with icons and are very assertive in what they’re doing, even when it’s plainly a bad move, they’re doing it wrong. I’ve seen a few of these guys pop out of the woodwork and it’s really annoying. You don’t need to preach to us that we don’t need to blindly follow icons because we usually don’t, but there are almost always people who do follow icons blindly, and that is a net loss for us. New commanders need to admit that they are new and be willing to take advice, and they also need to not be so unknown to the WvW population to at least inspire some amount of confidence. For example, Montzor from NOVA is a pretty new commander, but I’ve seen him around so long that I know he’s at least a reasonable person. Some of the others? Not so much.
There were many time I’ve followed good commanders even when I disagreed with their tactics. Sometimes the bad tactics actually works out, other times it doesn’t. The converse of your statement is that sometimes, people want to do things their way and split off with the commander. What ends up happening is that the commander can’t field a full force to make their tactic work. There’s going to be differing oppinions on how things can get done and the commander has a purpose to get everyone going the same direction. I feel like if everyone does blindly follow the new commanders like they do the good commanders they may actually succeed with the “bad” tactics.
-Maguuma
Maguuma has no tolerance for commanders trying to learn the rope.
This is actually true. I have 6 or 7 icons in my guild, and only 2 ever use them. Maguuma isn’t very friendly to new commanders.
Imho, isn’t about being friendly or not. It’s more about adapt to Maguuma playstyle.
My guild came to mag like 5 weeks ago and instantly noticed about how Mag coordination works and choose to turn off our icons because aren’t necessary. Mag doesn’t need a commander leading pugs if he isn’t on voice comm.
This would be the case if we were in T4 or lower or when we were Mag 2.0 on the way up the ladder. But against organized teams with overwhelming numbers who use zerg busting tactics, yea you need a commander for better coordination.
-Maguuma
Yea I try to speak out against the trolls who are critical of players learning the ropes. I think more just need to speak out.
I don’t know if trolling is why people don’t follow commanders. I think most old Maguuma players are just so used to no icons that we auto pilot on what we should be doing based on that map, so sometimes icons get ignored.
That does happen especially when the threat isn’t great. But often times, new commanders are shamed and embarrased publicly so that they don’t leave their icon on. THey don’t end up leading much and learning much. The server is then dependent on the playing schedule of a few well known commanders. This is just to point out that there is an attitude issue with some players on Maguuma against newbies and it hurts the server in the long run.

We punted around the Maguuma EB zerg for a couple hours today (after suffering several humiliating defeats to them in DB’s territory). Our victory at anz bolstered our confidence
.
Although you guys put up a spectacular defense at Mendon’s.
You guys got wiped at Mendon and Speldon but we were wiped more often at Anz. Not sure why we chose to hang out at Anz, you guys got advantage of a closer waypoint and safety of the keep to assault at any time.
-Maguuma
There is some terrible notion that Mag is full of elite players. This is very false, 90% of Mag is braindead and other 10% carries that 90%. GearWers2.
http://imgur.com/a/ygA8clol i liked the pic named “kitten everywhere”
everywhere indeed
This is a false very false statement. The 10% isn’t going anywhere without the 90%.

I dunno I can’t look at Invalid’s face with a straight face so the nudity probably has a dazing effect.
-Maguuma
Seriously though, badges are good, I am just running out of room (see picture).
Yeah me too, so many badges that I think the game is starting to glitch
Wonder if Quenta is jealous of your swagger.
-Maguuma
I’m starting to find EB to be a lot more fun to play in then BL map. FA is just too predictable in our BL, SW camp, SW tower, treb treb treb treb then lose west keep. If we all just queue up EB, it would put a lot of pressure on FA since they can’t call in reinforcement to double our numbers whenever they please.
-Maguuma
But it was funny.

When FA’s overnight crew goes to sleep, Dragonbrands NNK zerg starts to play.
What is really amazing is to see how strong Kaineg’s coverage was during that same period last week. NNK and our other Asian guilds were getting killed by K last week. Really puts in perspective why they moved to tier 2, and why Dragonbrand will stay at tier 3.
Another way to look at it, NNK needs number advantage to succeed.
