27 Chars on this account and 22 on the other… makes 49.
5 of them are 80 (Mesmer, Thief, Guardian, Warrior, Necromancer – all of them Sylvari).
I like to create new chars when I have new optical-ideas (especially sylvari with all the colours!) or new ideas for RP (role-play). So a lot of my chars are around level 10, but there are some who are on their way to 80.

how many characters do you have? And how many of them are in their 80’s?

cough Don’t know exactly… on my two accounts it must be between 40-50 characters altogether (maybe more). (Have to look it up.)

Level 80:
5: A mesmer, a thief, a necromancer, a guardian and a warrior.
Some of the others are nearly 80, but I have time… Most of my chars were/are ideas for RP. ^^

Dragon’s Jade Wep Skins Not Super Exclusive

I remember from another thread (don’t know which… it was in the Southsun-discussion a while ago) where a dev said something about the holiday-events. I believe he said that these events will be repeated, but not completely in the same way they did the first time. I think the holiday-events will be there every year. But you can’t know if the weapon-skins are the same every year. I think some things must be different, but the main-things like Dragonball are the same. But it’s just a guess/my interpretation of what I read a while ago.

It’s the NPC’s AROUND Evon Gnashblade. There are two on either side of him, known as “Special Weapons Merchants” or something like that. They also appear on your world/mini map as “Weapon Vendors”.

What NPC? On another thread there was mentioned Evon Gnashblade as the NPC who has the weapon-skins. And if that’s correct, he don’t show me weapons. He only tells me about TP and Gem-Shop. But absolutely nothing about weapon-tickets.

Yes. If you look at the npc where you redeem the tickets, he has every weapon redeemable by tickets. He has fused (molten alliance), sclerite (southsun), wintersday (wintersday) and jade (dragon bash).

You can’t look at it. When you have no ticket he shows you no weapon-skins.

Dragon Coffer Infection

Niyo.5920

Why in the world has the dragon coffers infected EVERY loot table in the game. You can not do anything any more without these annoying things dropping.

If I want to avoid this silly nonsense and run dungeons, I’m stuck with these things dropping.

If I want to farm for some T6 materials, I’m stuck with these things.

Is there no hope of getting any legit loot besides these trash coffers for the next month? Spreading them out into every single loot table seems a little ridiculous. You’ve just seemed to have gone a little overboard with this stuff.

On the plus side, I haven’t had one drop from a world boss....yet.

Truthfully, I’m so sick of seeing these things drop that it is seriously affecting my desire to even play for the next month. At least take this junk out of the dungeon drops so I can hide out there for a while.

*sigh* Some people are complaining that they don’t get enough of these and you complain about getting too much. Sell them if you don’t want to have them or don’t play for the next month if that’s really that bad to you.
Can’t understand your problem, cause I get my normal loot, too.

Dragon Helms per Account or Char?

You get them from an achievement. And the achievements are account-based. So they must be once-per-account. Otherwise it would be illogical to get one for every armour-class.

EDIT:
@Gabby: Some people got them yesterday. Must be a bug. A friend of mine was just standing in LA and then the chest popped up where he got them.

There is a difference between people complaining about RNG boxes, and telling people how they should play the game.

No it’s not. It’s all the same frustrating. You hate it that people tell you how to play the game and I hate it that no matter how ArenaNet trys to bring fun in the game there are people who whine that ANet only wants to frustrate people and everything is bad. Cause that’s not right. They want to frustrate people? Really? The event is great. Maybe southsun had some bad parts, but this event now is so different and still there are people who find it bad like southsun. I can’t understand why people can think like this and still stay in the game if it’s really that bad for them.

Why not just enjoy the game?

in Dragon Bash

Niyo.5920

And people enjoy the game different ways. What you may see as enjoyable, others may not. Don’t think that cause people aren’t doing things your way, that they are not enjoying the game. We are all different and enjoy different things. I see this argument all the time on these forums. People need to realize that everyone finds different things enjoyable, so stop telling people that they are not enjoying the game or not playing the game right, just cause it is not the way you play the game.

Then all the ones who whine about the coffers should stop telling everybody that all is bad and ArenaNet is the greatest demon in the world, too. There are people who enjoy this event. And I for myself think that this time the coffers are really great. Cause they drop a lot and there is every time the chance to get a ticket. Far not as frustrating as the southsun-crates.

@Cameirus: About the exploit: Maybe ArenaNet hadn’t thought that a lot of players are such unfair idiots that they started to try how to exploid in the first minutes of the patch. ArenaNet should think better about the bad side of the people. As sad as this is.

What’s your point? Do you think he exploited his way to a weapon skin and then came back to complain about it?

No. But he complaints about that there were exploits. But if there weren’t so much players who want to exploit… there would have been no problem with an exploit, cause nobody would have noticed that you can exploit the mini-games.
EDIT: It’s just ArenaNets fault to believe in the good of the players and not to think about how players can be cheating in the new patch.

Niyo.5920

Thank you, Denwic! Just what I thought the whole time yesterday and today when I saw all the whine-threads out there.

It is so much easier to get a ticket this time than the last time without buying boxes in shop. Yes, people are saying they opened 1000 coffers to get a skin… but if there are people who have 1000 coffers they must (and they do) drop very well. Far better than southsun-boxes. And it’s only the first day! There is a month time. So keep playing and loot coffers.

The answer to my question is not there, because all it shows is a post that was made by a developer 7-8 hours ago stating that they were behind, and other people stating that they have not gotten it yet. I appreciate that you’re trying to help, however, that still does not answer my question.

Because I am asking about whether purchasing Gems on the 9th counts or not….

Just wait if you get the minis. If you’ll get them, the 9th counted. If not…

There used to be an event at Pearl Islet where shelks would steal a bunch of consortium supplies and you’d need to destroy their nests and kill them to retrieve the supplies. That was before the Asura Gate was there or anything, back when it was just another settlement.

I haven’t seen that event since Last Stand at Southsun started, though. Assumed they had removed it due to Pearl Islet being the “main” settlement with the Asura gate and a hub for the Last Stand storyline. Its one of the few safe settlements and they don’t want to block the only way off the island.

Sounds like some sort of bug, some residual code leftover from the event that for some reason is triggering now all of a sudden.

Ah. Thank you. Then I remembered correctly. But I wasn’t on southsun between the Lost Shore-event and the new southsun-story. That’s why I only have little memory about that. But what you wrote must be the event I remembered. So it’s as I thought: Only a bug.

Nevermind the fuzzy Quaggan/Charr backpacks, 8-bit retro video game weapons/backpacks, a bow that shoots rainbow unicorns with Anet logos on them, a candy cane hammer, aviator sunglasses, gw2 logo t-shirts and hats, etc etc.

Face it. Anet doesn’t care about immersion. Soon we’ll all be wearing Pepsi/Coca Cola branded armor with McDonalds/Burger King weapons and doing dungeons that are brought to you by Maybelline.

Some items are explainable in lore, like the SAB-weapons which are a new asuran-technology by Moto. That’s not the problem. The hats like they are now are no problem, too. The only thing I don’t want is that they will be armour instead of town clothing. Bad enough that in other games I have to deal with characters which go to battle dragons naked. Mustn’t have that in GW2, too.

That has nothing to do with “learn to play” and I really hate it that there are so many players who constantly say stupid sentences like this to other players.
There are people who can’t do JP, cause they have a bad internet-connection or aren’t good in jumping or are disabled. People who for example can only see with one eye or play with one hand… For them it brings nothing to constantly repeat “learn to play”, cause they can’t.

ANet knows this and that’s why they put 11 samples in game.

@OP: Would be better to ask in map channel of your server if a friendly mesmer can port you up if you still want the 11th sample. But as Crovax said: To get the backpiece you only need the other 10 samples.

Canach blew up the ship, not Kiel. Kiel just didn’t stop him from doing it because it was a way to destroy the contracts without her having to be directly responsible.

That’s not true. His plan was to let the contracts be destroyed from the wildlife he poisoned. That’s why he marked the places where the contracts possibly could be. Because of Kiel the contracts weren’t there anymore and the wildlife attacked without destroying the contracts, which Kiel did.
How could Canach destroy a ship when he is imprisoned? Kiel was the one who wanted the black powder. Guess why.

I’m happy that clothes like this are no combat-clothes.
That would destroy the atmosphere of the game if there would be people in pink quaggan-hats who are fighting a dragon.
In town it’s ok. Cause there it’s good for RP to have hats for characters that are children for example.
But not in fight. Makes me shiver to even think about a charr-warrior with a pink quaggan-hat. And people would do that if they could. So it’s good that they can’t.

We have a bow that shoots rainbows and unicorns, and you have a problem that’s these hats will destroy the atmosphere? LMAO………ok.

The effect of the bow is magic. Deciding to wear a stupid looking hat is not.
I’m a role player. So there are things which can be explained with lore and are exaptable – and things who aren’t. Wearing townclothes in combat isn’t.

Not in town. There it’s ok. But a warrior in battle – that’s not “fashion” that’s stupid to not wear armour there.

EDIT:
@Bunny: That’s bad enough.

Like said, you can also chose to not display your helmet so your argument is invalid.

My argument is valid, cause it brings nothing to me to not display my helmet, cause I would never decide to fight in these hats. What I said is that the other players who are fighting in these helmets destroy the atmosphere of a battle. Their armour I can’t “chose to not display”.

EDIT:
And no helmet displayed is not so unrealistic then a animal helmet like these. Cause the warrior could lost his helmet in battle minutes before.

Why should I bother with living world at all?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Niyo.5920

Niyo.5920

I went to southsun and spent maybe 10 minutes soloing a veteran karka. I got downed when he was at 50% health. Then the zerg came along and finished him, and revived me. I strolled over to his body expecting a reward for my work. There was NOTHING. No search option. Zilch.

I’ve found that 95% of the time, killing karka at southsun yields ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You won’t even get a common item for your work here. Tell me, why should I continue playing living story content if there is no reward for doing so? You work to make living story fun and then diminish the rewards for said limited time content. There is zero reason for me to spend time in Southsun except for standing around and then spending five minutes tapping the karka queen for the guaranteed loot for my work.

I expect no better from dragon bash either. This is pathetic.

I get every time a karka shell out of a karka-veteran I fought against (if there is no other loot, that seems to be the minimum loot). Don’t know why you haven’t got anything.
Do you use the magic find-buff from the settlers? I can’t complain about my loot. I have not that luck like some others but I get a lot of green items at the island.
But when you don’t like southsun, don’t play it. Easy thing.

Besides… dragon bash will be an event. Living Story is not. Can’t really be compared.

Niyo.5920

Can anybody give me a detailed summary of what exactly happened? I literally have no clue, even after playing through the content. Here are a few questions I have, really.

Here is a good summary of Vahkris about Southsun:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/I-find-the-story-to-be-disjointed/first#post2116162

And that’s my summary of the letters from Lost Shore-event which was in november:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/southsun/Lost-Shore-Old-Letters-from-the-Story/first

And this is readable, too:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/canachs-story-an-after-hours-meeting/

-Canach is the bad guy? Is he supposed to be bad? He didn’t feel all that villainous. Also, how the heck did we find out it was Canach? And how did we find where his lair was?

Canach was from the Lost Shore-story. He was – as a former member of the Consortium – interested in special plant-probes, but that made the wildlife angry and so the karka attacked Lions Arch. Canach was captured by the Lionguard but fled when we attacked the ancient karka on southsun. He was on the run the last 6 month and then he was back in southsun to deal with Noll and to free the settlers. (Maybe you read the letters from the last event and so you understand it better.^^)
I don’t think he is completely evil. He had only the wrong ways to help the people. In my opinion.

-How did Canach know what would drive the wildlife mad? And how exactly did he get the censers?

I think the poison is from the plants he examined in november.

-Henrika was a traitor? What did she do..?

She got the poison from Canach to drive the wildlife mad so that the karka and other creatures attack the Consortium. But they attacked everybody who was there at the time. (She was the reason for the animal-attack at the settler-camp near driftglass.) She believed Canach that it will be against the Consortium.

-Why did Kiel have to blow up an entire ship? That seems incredibly excessive and wasteful just to get rid of some papers..

She wanted to state this as an accident. So that Noll can’t say “You destroyed the contracts!”.
I don’t like her. To me it feels like “I’m the hero, not Canach and I destroy the contracts and ruin his plan.”. But that’s my opinion. (You can see from other threads that I like Canach and dislike Kiel. )

@OP: Don’t believe what Elbegast is saying. Read about it and decide for yourself.

There is no story. They claim a story exists but I haven’t seen it. Nothing but forgettable, generic NPCs who love to bark orders and are too weak to kill crabs.

I’ve been playing this game for ~3 months and am already regretting the purchase. It’s sad, really, because I’ve played GW1 for years and still have fun there.

I thought we’ve been through this… Only because you have an illness and can’t see a story when it’s not shown in cinematics, that’s no reason to tell everybody that it doesn’t exist. It does. And believe it or not there are people who like the Southsun-Story or the story of Flame & Frost.

Do us the favour and play GW1 if it’s that much better. And stop whining here and trying to ruin GW2 for people who like the game. When you don’t like it that’s absolutely ok. But I can’t understand people who don’t like a game and then don’t stop to play it. When I don’t like a game I stop playing and play another game and don’t whine on a forum how bad the game is. (And yes, that’s happened before.)

Eh, ok they are referenced in lore, my bad. However, I have little doubt that they were originally conceived as convenient gameplay constructs and half-heartedly worked into lore after the fact. In my opinion this never should have never have been done, for the exact reason this thread elucidates.

The asura-gates were not “half-heartedly worked into lore” as gameplay construct.
The asura-gates are lore since GW1, years ago. And there they were no instrument to transport the players from one place to another. They only had story-related reasons of being there. Maybe they thought about them as good means of transportation for the future, but then that was forward-looking and not “half-heartedly worked into lore”.

When the latest patch went live I didn’t check, simply because there was now indication that at that specific time the contract event went live and therefore I do agree with the OP that ANet could have done a better job of comunicating said fact in game.

1. You could have thought about it that the contracts have to be there now, cause that was the last patch for this story-part.
2. You could have asked in map channel like the hundreds of people who did that the weeks before. I would be rich if I got 1s every time I answered that question to one who was asking.

How do we know it doesn’t take place in Lion’s Arch harbor on the 11th as an epilogue instance where we are waiting for the ship to arrive with Kiel and it blows up before reaching port?

Cause the Southsun-part is till 11th… so it’s logical that the last story-part (like the other achievements) have to be done till that date. Noone said that the last achievement could be made after the end of this story-arc. I don’t even know how someone could even think about something like this.

Like I said on another gameforum before: Everything would be so much easier if people started to think more logical and less complicated.

Clearly some people did not follow the story. It was mentioned where to go and also in a memo that I stated earlier. Either re-do the Canach story instance or read the dialogue in the following article

Thank you.
That is the important line:

Inspector Ellen Kiel: I’m going to fix this. All I need are reinforcements…and as much black powder as I can get.

This should hint everyone that they have to go to Kiel if they want to help with the contracts.

Except it still doesn’t. Keil has always had a yellow star and has always been interactable with important information. But she was never an actual key person for starting anything, despite being a main character even in the previous instances. There is no indication that she starts the instance until you happen to talk to her. Having something that specifically said she was the one would have been appreciated.

Just for you a second time:

Inspector Ellen Kiel: I’m going to fix this. All I need are reinforcements…and as much black powder as I can get.

What do you need more?
If people aren’t interested in the story it could stand there in shining red letters and still there would be people whining about that they couldn’t have known this.

I don’t know, man. Whenever I see someone with the Dreamer I wish that I could turn off every particle effect in the game and then delete their bow.

First: I’m no ‘man’.
And yes… I don’t like this bow very much, too. But it can fit to some characters like for example sylvari. A male charr with this bow… not my favourite image. But it’s ok. I try to ignore something like this.
What I wanted to say is that even if it’s not the favourite bow of everybody it fits (or can fit) in the lore. But no warrior who isn’t totally crazy would wear a quaggan-hat when he is fighting for his life.

But with no mention in the letter that we should talk to Kiel, one could mistaken it for an epilogue event like the Rallying Flame achievement that took place at the very end of F&F. He would have logged in on or after the 11th and saw that Dragon Bash had begun and missed out.

If this would have been an epilogue-event you also would have to make it till the end of the current story. As for this: Before the 11th. It’s the end of the current Southsun-“event”. As it was with the end of the F&F. The epilogue there was only there for a few days, like it’s here.
And only if one could think “oh it’s an epilogue-event” – why should he not talk to Kiel as soon as he is there? Can’t understand your problem, sorry.
You always can miss such a thing. No matter if it’s an epilogue-event or a dungeon like the one of F&F or whatever.

I do believe this argument, that it would destroy the atmosphere of the game, is no longer valid. There are people shooting unicorns with the ANet logo from bows, picks with lava explosions, footprints from legendaries, ect…. And now they will have people with holographic, flapping wings from the upcoming event.

With all this, there is no reason not to have costumes wearable in combat.

The legendaries are one thing but that you can explain with special technology and there is not everybody who has a legendary so it’s not such a big deal. They also are not that eye-catching like a pink charr-warrior with a quaggan-hat would be. And legendaries are better to explain in lore.
The holographic wings are explainable, too, since Moto has shown that he invented a holographic that can be touched (just read the information on the SAB-weapons). So it’s asura-technology like the dragon-holographic at the Dragon Bash will be. That’s no problem for the atmosphere

The letter only talks about protecting the settlements from wildlife. I’ve been following the story and reading memos/talking to NPCs. I’ve got time to figure things out and read up on what to do, but my friend who can only log on once a week doesn’t. The lore and rewards are not important to him. He just wants to log in to see what’s new and be pointed in the direction to do new things.

But if he did the new things last week (that includes the Canach-solo-instance) he would have known that Kiel is the one who wanted to deal with the contracts. And so it’s a good idea to talk to her first. Especially because she is the main-NPC for the “missions” the last weeks.
