ArenaNet... personal damage meter ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oatmeal.1895

Oatmeal.1895

Damage meter can lead to elitism, but at the same time, GW2 is different in that each and every class can bring support to a group/raid besides Damage. If you’re not Berserk spec’d, or shooting for damage in general, then you need to try and excel in other areas of your class. Throw down them damage reducers, blocks, damage increasing aura’s, etc. That will be the way you can contribute to the raid/group. If you’re not adding anything besides auto-attacking, then yes I would like to know so I can tell you to add more to the party instead of riding on the coattails of everyone else busting there butt to achieve success.

I can say the same thing for Charged Lodestones. That’s whats a being a PITA right now. And they cost 3g from the TP. I’m a guardian, not a zerker warrior, nor do I carry zerker gear, I can’t really farm gold all day either in CoF P1. I guess I could buy gems and convert to gold. ANet would be pleased with that. I smile when people suggest that they nerf CoF P1, that will be a day to see all the crying in LA, full of bored zerker warriors LFG.

Anyways, I made a Dusk from the mystic forge. Now, what did I do? That’s right, I went and sold that sucker for 560g on the trading post. Do I feel like a bad person? Nope. What should I do, be a white knight and sell it for 200 – 300g? Why? I needed a Dawn, and they are in the same price range.

Is it worth mystic forging t5 mats?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Oatmeal.1895

Oatmeal.1895

Well, thing is the mystic forge is random, you might get lucky. I wouldn’t waste it on the T6 mats. I’ve gone down that road last week for each T6 material to see what I would get out of it, was totally not worth it, and I was kitten afterwards.

But if we’re talking about things like combining exotic weapons, that’s a different story. I consider that gambling. I do it every now and then when my gold supply gets up (maybe 30 – 50g). So I’ll grab some of the cheapest exo’s in the TP (~2g 60s?).. which I’m probably getting burned, I should look into making my own. And throw 4 into the mystic forge.

It is gambling. You might get lucky like I did the first time 2 1/2 months ago and get a dusk. Then you might get lucky again a week ago and make another dusk.. (hiya 550g.)

I’ve never considered myself a dps machine, more of a hybrid support/damage dealer. I run Harbringer’s paragon build (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Paragon-Build/page/2#post1602989). So I always have some kind of group/supportive utility up. Usually “Save Yourselves!” “Hold the Line!” & “Stand Your Ground!”

I’m also constantly switching up traits and utilities depending on the situation, mob/pack types, champion/boss types etc.

Remember, look at your class name.

guard·i·an
[gahr-dee-uhn]

noun
1.
a person who guards, protects, or preserves.

(Note, I’m not saying every guardian has to be full support and spam virtues for his/her groups all day. I’m just trying to say I came into this game with a mindset that that’s what a guardian’s primary role was. But after getting 80 I realized every class can be just about anything. So good luck to all!)

1) Yes, friends, if they all stopped playing so would I.
2) Nothing really, I don’t WvW much because it’s not my particular cup of tea. I dont consider myself a decent player vs player, it’s why I stick to PvE.
3)Me and my group of friends do just fine at 7pm on friday nights when WvW resets and all your hard earned buffs for us puny PvE’rs are lost. Do you think we wait around until wednesday/thursday evening before we go and do our dungeons, waiting anxiously for the WvW crew to get the buffs up before we go smashing bosses teeths in?
4) I dont have an issue with currency, I’m not rich, but I have enough to handdle more than 10- 15 deaths per night if it got that bad. Not to mention the 15 or so repair canisters.
5) 3 months ago I started playing. when I was level 60 I saw Twilight. I said to myself. “One day, that weapon will be mine.” 2 months later, Risen Priestess of Melandru lay dead on the cold floor, eyes glazed over, forever staring into the universe that is Twilight. She looked pretty impressed to me?
6) Doesn’t apply to me either, I’m on Fort Aspenwood. Either we curb stomp or we hold our own pretty well.

Once per day event rewards

This is how it might go down now. You’re in Orr doing your gathering, you hear someone shout in map chat “need more for melandru”. You think to yourself “hmm, melandru, oh, already got my chest from that one…” And you will just keep gathering or ignore that temple. Will everyone do this? No, but most will. Why? Because people want to be rewarded for their effort. You taking away our big shiney chest away at the end of a massive event? Not cool.

Not cool at all.

Edit: I too preferred the horrible loot drops over this. At least I got drops. Every now and then I would get a rare. And when the moon was aligned just right and the cows were moo’ing in sync, maybe, just maybe, I got an exotic. And there was always the hope that someday a precursor would drop. But atleast I was always guaranteed a dang chest.

Well, you’re hideously overpowered in PvP.

That’s always something.

Warriors are next to useless in PvP.

well, since we kinnda suck @ pve, but as you said we are OP in pvp, then see you there !!! (wvw ofc)
you may run, but you can’t hide !

Thieves don’t suck in pve, they just have to work it harder and are more squisher. It’s ok little buddy, I’m a guardian, I’ll spam my boons all day on you. Also, they do indeed rock it in pvp.

Also, I do CoF1 runs, but I also clear everything. If I get someone who joins and tries to run across the bridge like an idiot and ignores what me and my group mates are saying he get’s kicked. If they argue about it, it’s either shut up and work with what the group is doing or leave.

Doesn’t matter what class you are, Engi, Ele, Thief, Warrior, Necro, etc. Or what build, just use common sense and stick with the group and you’re alright by my standards.

I like your build a lot. I am looking to change my build up. Right now I am running a ‘tanky’ build.. but I’m probably doing it wrong. I mostly play PvE dungeons with friends. I do however dabble in WvW from time to time, but dungeons are my main focus at the moment. Would this build be viable for me? I would like to be able to support my teammates. Edit: Holy crap, I’m reading some of the posts on page one.. People saying they’ve played 1000+ hours and have only had 1 – 2 exotics drop? What? Are you killing mobs? Do you run dungeons at all, do events that gives chests? Btw, I don’t have dungeon master title yet. I still need to do all 3 SE paths, and am a scrub guardian who isnt a zerker ;(.

Zerker's gear - end game gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oatmeal.1895

Oatmeal.1895

Title says it, if you’re not running it, are you hurting yourself? Basically, if you and your groupmates aren’t running a full set of zerkers are you just gimping yourself?

Another way to look at it, what’s better:

1) A group going through a dungeon running full zerkers (save for maybe 1 class dedicated to “healing” or protection)

vs

2) A group made up of whatever they wanted to play (how anet states the game can be played)

Or is berserker’s gear only viable for specific dungeon paths (speed runs? CoF1 for example)

Thanks for your input!

EDIT: Just want to clarify a BIT more!

Lets say, for example…Your up against a pack of mobs. Now, you can run in and use your utilities, your wall of reflections, your blocks, your stabilities, crowd control effects, roots, etc with a “normal” group… Or just pull them all in close and AoE the crud out of them and smash them in 6 seconds. That’s what I’m basically asking. Thanks!

By tokens, I hope you mean skill points, because dungeon tokens are account bound, not character bound, otherwise I don’t think you’ve ran a dungeon in your life and you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I don’t see a problem with switching to a low level alt at the end of a boss to get exp for your character as long as you let the group know before hand and they agree it’s ok, and as long as the group is in good health prior to the boss dieing.

However the only time I do it is in TA, because we ranged nightmare boss anyways. You would have to be having a pretty bad day to wipe below 30% on that guy! Everything else I won’t switch because I’m usually tanking it. (Guardian

But like others have said each weapon has it’s strengths. Except for torch and sword… I cannot honestly say I have ever really used them, except to mess around.

For example, the flame legion bosses/elites in CoF that use a flamethrower that have a constant stream, I’m assuming and was pretty sure WoR does not reflect this (because it’s not really a ‘projectile’ I suppose). Would SotA counter this? Or would SotA post-nerf die instantly?

Another example would be the mesmers (I think) in ARAH that use that laser beam. How can I counter these for myself and my team? Being a guardian I am heavy on protecting my allies.

The only time I might be able to get it is if we night capped while everyone was asleep, but I have a 5am – 5pm job, so that isn’t always possible for me.

I know, I should have jumped on the band wagon like everyone else when transfer were free. If my server isn’t green this next round then I might just have to pony up the 20$+ just to get 3 PoI’s and 3 Vista’s.

Needed time to craft a legendary now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oatmeal.1895

Oatmeal.1895

There are a few thing’s that can either speed up or slow down the process of getting your desired legendary; the main points being:

]- Are you doing it, for the most part, by yourself (like me?) If so, be prepared to farm your butt off.
– Since you’re going to be doing most of the gathering by yourself, you can do it a couple of ways. Farm and make gold, and purchase the mats. This, in my opinion, is the fastest and easier way. Run around Orr, Malchors, lvl 80 zones, dungeons, FoTM, etc, and sell what you don’t need.

In the beginning this was a heck of a lot cheaper. Then it started to get really expensive. Lodestones, ectos, and T6 prices started to go through the roof. After the bot ban back on Jan 28(I think), the prices sky rocketed again. I think they have started to go down, but I have no checked on them.

The other way is to farm the mats yourself. This will be a long and tedious road to follow. Not undoable. I tried doing this at first, but gave up after realizing it would just take too long to acquire 250 of the T6 mats, 100 onyx lodestones, 500 ecto’s, etc. (I actually got around 300 or so ecto’s that I salvaged myself..)

]- If you’re with a group of friends or helpful guild/friends that will donate/help acquire mats this process can go by swiftly, literally within a month. The only time consuming part about any of it would be getting the badges of honor. The jumping puzzles, depending on your server, are easy to navigate. I only have about 250 badges. My reason for not having those complete is its horribly boring having to do 70+ WvW jumping puzzles to get 500 badges of honor.

Precursor, like you said, will be 500g+, unless you get extremely lucky on a drop or from the mystic forge (thank the gods for my dusk ), or the devs implement something in the near future. Karma… just do events, monthly, dailies etc like the above poster has stated.

In the end, if you have spare cash and don’t mind spending it on gems, you could always convert Gems to —> gold. The exchange rate is horrible though. I think I have some like 2800 gems and last I checked I would have gotten 45gold maybe? Gah. There’s more to it, but that’s the gist of it. Good luck.

People will complain about anything. I’m not necessarily speaking about the op. Dodging is a mechanical part of GW2. If you can’t do it, you’re SOL and you need to learn how.

Edit: Last part of my post was a bit mean, but I will say this:
You NEED TO LEARN how to dodge. You will NOT be able to do dungeons or fractals or group events in Orr or level 80 zones if you can not learn to dodge. You will be in a down state constantly and a hinderance to your allies because they will be wasting time reviving you instead of focusing on the event. So please learn to dodge!

Almost every boss has a gimmick or mechanic to it that you must follow in order to defeat him/her. There are a few bosses that are just straight up tank and spank.

For example, last night my group of friends decided we would give Crucible of Eternity a try after many moans and groans. We have had bad experiences in there, it is one of the more unpopular dungeons because of Subject Alpha’s fights.

To make a long story short we couldn’t figure him out, did some research, found out his ‘trick’ is you all have to stack up on him. Is this intended? I hope so, because it worked and we kicked his butt. Prior to that we were getting creamed and only got him to 50%.

How should I get Badges of Honor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oatmeal.1895

Oatmeal.1895

Yeah, don’t listen to these guys. It’s really Badges of Jumping Puzzle. However if your borderland is being dominated there’s nothing you can do about it. If it’s under control, do your jp over and over. Keep making a new character, you can do the jp until your heart is broken. Not everyone has the opportunity to run with a zerg.

Why do you think they were put there in the first place? Do you think I enjoyed doing the jumping puzzles? It’s really annoying,, and I feel bad knowing I might be taking a spot in WvW where someone else who actually wanted to contribute to fighting could have gotten in. Oh well.

While we’re on the subject of WvW, why badges aren’t automatically put in your inventory or added as a separate currency is beyond me. Forget to press the F button in the middle of a battle and get pushed back? There goes your bag of loot.
