Mordremoth’s triumvirate of evil:
1. Trahearne
2. Scarlet
3. The sylvari that keeps spamming “More violets I say, less violence.”Number 3 just made me laugh so hard … XD
I had to log in to say this, too. I nearly spewed my coffee.
We have no plans to add a jumping puzzle to the desert borderlands.
and it’s good. period.
Sez you.
I frequently use the Look Behind option and have it as one of my mouse buttons. When going up/down stairs in the Air Keep, this tended to pan all the way up to the sky rather than showing what’s behind you.
This happens in the normal client when you approach a wall or steep rise, too.
- Small havoc groups will likely have a much harder time than in the present borderlands. It’s not impossible, but lots harder.
- The siege hardened gates with the auto-bolt-throwers were unapproachable. If they are set up this way, the fortified wall around the corner is going to be the simple alternative every time.
- Wow, the sup trebs are huge. I couldn’t see the green direction arrow when using it from the rear. I actually didn’t test to see if you could spot it from the side or front, doh!
- Dying than running back alllllllll the way across the map is tiresome. Getting the incontestable waypoint in keeps will be an enormous boon, to which all the other players will do their best to tear down as quickly as possible.
- Lots of the map seemed pretty empty, so I’m not sure how “stressed” the map got. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to play as much as I would have liked (4 hours total). A weekend would probably have gotten lots more play-test time.
- Is the map going to have an increase in player population? I would think so, since it seems so large.
- I am also wondering about the 3 identical borderlands, too. So much space.
I’ve had that stuck pose before, and that’s a bug both with the Mac and PC in the normal client. Waypointing, dying, using an Asura gate sometimes fixes it. Sometimes you just have to relog.
I managed to get the Mac client to run ok, too. I wish Anet had actually thought to give us Mac users some direction. It really wasn’t that kittence you got the proper instructions.
The mouse wheel is an issue where in the prefs the mouse wheel is set to “Use scrolling gestures to change direction” option. Uncheck that and the scroll wheel works for zoom.
I am happy to report I had no undue crashes. My Mac client performed fine even in 3-4 hours of play.
I agree, even after the 2-3 hours I played, I was getting the hang of getting around. There are all sorts of traps, dead ends, sheer cliffs and other terrain features that clever players will take advantage of and will make play interesting.
Many WvW players have already pointed out that it’s “too similar” to EotM, that there’s too much PvE, all sorts of reasons why it’s bad. There is a complaint that it doesn’t allow for GvG, too big, k-training, etc. I think EotM became a k-train is because it was allowed to. The borderlands are a fight area, EotM is just whatever. If EotM was the main borderlands, it would be something other than a k-train, I’m pretty sure. And in the new borderlands there seems to be plenty of space to GvG.
I’ve been playing WvW a shorter time than others, and, personally, I’m getting kinda bored. I’m looking forward to the change.
September 8-10 stress test - exploits

We noticed early on sometimes enemy tower waypoints became available. That was a fun way to get into a keep! After the next restart, it seemed to go away, though. Just though I’d mention it.
Also, keeps that have hardened siege, the mortars have very interesting firing exhaust. It look all blocky and pixelated. Looks kind of cool, but probably not what you want.

Macintosh Beta status strikes, again.
I like Lion’s Arch development. It still feels rather unfinished, though, like everything is still just in rough-cast concrete without much in the way of surface decoration.
But I do miss the old lion statue. Would be nice if it made a surprise reappearance. I’m not holding my breath.
… sorry if you have some misplaced sense of honor, but not my problem.
Seems to sum up the issue, one way or another.
Having this problem as well. Having no issues with any other program. Graphic tests all come up normal. Older ATI Radeon card, but with recent drivers. Happened since the recent update, never before.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but my old macbook pro 17" died, and I purchased a new 27" 5k Imac (fully loaded) and am getting constant crashes when more players come nearby. The hardware should be able to support this no problem, and I use auto detect for settings in game. So it’s something with the Mac client port conflicting with Yosemite that is likely the issue. Running with full screen 1920 × 1080, autodetect on settings. Getting 31 FPS in Rata Sum.
If the dev’s have a script set up to test mac issues I would be happy to run it and send in the data. As I would like to see this issue fixed as Yosemite has been live now for several months.
Have you tried fiddling with the settings a bit? Try turning off Ambient Occlussion, Best Texture Filtering, Depth Blur and Hi Res Character Textures. Try lowering the quality of some of the other settings as well. I know it makes the graphics go from awesome to sort of potato, but it’s worth it to get the thing to run.
It’s not likely the hardware that’s the problem, but the Transgaming wrapper that is failing. It probably just can’t keep up. There are other people who are running GW2 on a 5K iMac without too many problems. If the situation continues, submit a ticket.
aye, I meant the Mac client/port must not be supported or buggy either way it crashes horribly at anything above 1080p res.
Glad to hear it plays well in a reduced resolution on the 5K iMac. I’d love to get one.
Interesting you say that it crashes horribly above 1080p. Typically in PvE I play in full-screen mode at 2560 × 1440, the highest resolution available on my Mac, with no issues. I can even play at this resolution with very good to high graphics, though it sometimes gets laggy (my iMac is 6+ years old).
If I play WvW, I typically play in windowed mode (for access to other screens and windows) at 1920 × 1200, the highest windowed resolution. The graphics has to be turned down because of screen activity, but it’s not that bad.
The attached screen shot shows my typical WvW settings. I rarely crash in either mode.
Has anyone ever found a way to make the search function of the forum work?
We have been advised to use google to search the forums.
The new physics of the wings are terrible.
So, has anyone here actually looked at wings? Guess what: They are stiff, because they have to be. They don’t flop around like overcooked linguini. If they did in real life, birds would not be able to fly. Look at a condor or a large raptor flying.
Yeah, I would love it if maybe they were a bit smaller, flexed and flapped. But this wet noodle thing is poor physics.
I have to chime in here and say I wish your mother a speedy recovery, too.
I also have to agree that I find GW2 to be one of the best MMOs I’ve ever played. Keep up the good work for all of us!
Feel free to ping me if you ever need a hand.
I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to the staff who’ve been patient with the board and kept us informed and to the staff that tracked it down and fixed it. It seems that not only are my framerates fixed, but they are actually a bit better. Wooot!
So I found this thread after thinking I was losing my mind. Everything is jerky and not pretty. Now, I have a Mac so I’m used to getting the short end, so I figure it’s just the Mac beta. But then people with water-!^%@^!-cooled PCs are suffering and I think, hunh. Then I read about turning off the UI and I’m like YESYESYES! It’s so smooooth and pretty and FAST (30fps, stop giggling). Then I turn the UI back on and it’s like ffffffffffff It’s slow and choppy and I have to turn off EVERYTHING to be able to play it and everyone looks like amorphous blobs and the texture looks like Castle Wolfenstein (the original) and it’s down to 10-15fps just milling about in LA. WvW looks like a bad gif at times. I cast and 3 seconds later I see the skill pop. Sigh. Castle Wolfenstein ain’t lookin’ so bad …
Running Edge of the Mists in WvW is a great way to level. Get in with a nice big zerg and stay with it and you can rack up the levels pretty quick.
HI! Well, you can do a couple of things. If you have friends who are higher levels, you can get them to help you. Your best bet would be to continue to explore and level until you are at the right level to get to the area. The Fields of Ruin are south of Ebonhawke.
Have fun!
Hi, guys. Yeah the Terminal command doesn’t do anything.
Try this:
- Go to your user Library > Application Support and delete the Guild Wars 2 folder
- In the same Library, go to Preferences and delete com.transgaming.guildwars2.plist
- Delete the application Guild Wars 2
- Download and reinstall a new client from GW2
- New data should now download
The prefs file sometimes has bad data and can cause the game not to download properly.
If the game won’t start, open the Activity Monitor and look for Guild Wars 2 in the list. If it’s there, click on it and force quit it. GW2 should start normally.
I can’t run Safari while I run GW2. They don’t like each other.
I reloaded a completely fresh client after deleting all support and prefs files. This time it completely crashes and gives this error:
“Timed out while creating browser view
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause”
I have filed a ticket with ANet.
However, I have found that Step 4 of here has reduced the amount of times it happens for me.
Thanks for your reply!
I did do step 4. No change, unfortunately. I am in windowed mode, and flipping out and back in did not help. Still looking for answers. As I said, if it’s still acting up today, will try and replace the entire client.
Accessing BLTC is back to crashing the client again. Since last weekend it’s been increasing in frequency to the point now whenever I access it, it crashes.
1) Open BLTC
2) Client gamma shifts darker (this is new to me)
3) BLTC window spins with no load. Window is draggable, can click to other aspects (Gem store, auction, exchange, but still no load)
4) Client continues to be playable in the background (ie, move via keyboard, etc.) as long as the BLTC window is open
5) Close BLTC window, client freezes, audio is stuck on a 1 sec. loop
6) No crash, so no crash log. I have to force quit.
I have done all of the basic Mac BETA client fixes to no avail. The last step will be to completely reinstall the client from scratch, a real pain.
All-in-all, the Mac client seems less stable than before the latest patch. I crash way more frequently in WvW/EoM unless I’m on absolute potato graphics setting.
iMac 11,1
Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz
Memory: 8 GB
ATI Radeon HD 4850
I always crash when I have the graphics set even remotely high when there is a fairly large group of people. Often I run Autodetect just to see what it suggests, then dial it down even further. In WvW if I have anything other than “Best Performance” selected (which looks hideous) I am guaranteed a crash if there is anything more than a few toons on screen. Granted, I have an older Mac (2009 i7, 2.8 Ghz). I also have 8Gb of RAM and I’m thinking doubling that may help, though the old ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB is not helping lots. Time for a new Mac, maybe.
Have you solved your issue? A lot of these non-start issues have to do with bad data in the Application Support folder, so I’m surprised that didn’t solve your problem. One thing you can try is see if it creates an error message in the Console app when you try it.
It sounds like there may be a data problem in the Application Support folder, or at least it’s something to try.
This is from the Mac FAQ at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/MAC-Basic-Beta-Client-Troubleshooting/first#post2480238
You can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.
A ticket is a good idea. If I may ask, what Mac/system are you running?
Hi, there!
Have you tried looking at this FAQ?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/MAC-Basic-Beta-Client-Troubleshooting
Here’s an excerpt of the top reasons:
1.) Run software update to ensure all drivers and OS are up to date. (Remember the Mac client requires the latest version of 10.7 or above)
2.) Try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first.
(Finder → Applications → Utilities → Disk Utility)
3.) Repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
4.)If it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:

I had this exact problem and in my experience, #4 is the one that usually fixes most problems. #3 doesn’t do anything or it states an error. #1 and #2 are things that don’t make a whole lot of difference. None of it will hurt your computer, so you can try all of them.
Hope that helps.
Is it me or is the entire Mac Beta Forum not only archived but completely emptied? There was lots of good information in there. All the other archived forums seem to have their contents.
(Edited for spelling, because I should preview before I post at this hour)
I am having troubles during WvW as well. The client will crash with one of these two errors:
- lockedRect.pBits
- dstBits
Console reports:
9/14/14 7:08:32.910 PM cider537: CGSLockWindow: Unable to lock window
9/14/14 7:08:32.910 PM WindowServer200: mapshmem_internal : vm_map(3: (os/kern) no space available) : Cannot map memory

Also, my password is not being saved, either.
I am thinking of reinstalling the client to see if it resolves anything.
I will make a report for these.
Stunning, amazing work. I feel like I have so far to go. I don;t understand half the things you can do or how to do them. I will be watching the video over and over.
Ok, what happens is that the certificates are fixed, but the zombie processes still kick in and cause the BLTP to still not work. The easiest workaround: restart your Mac, every time you want to play GW2.
However, in combination with the certificate-replacement trick, adding this little app really got BLTP to work every time, so far, for me. It kills all the zombie processes left over from last session. Hey, you can restart your Mac if you don’t want to run the script, with the same result, but this is way easier. Thanks to nuklehed!
Be aware, the forum makes double and single “dumb quotes” into “smart quotes” which Applescript doesn’t recognize. So if you copy/paste the script straight into the editor, you will have to edit the fancy quotes into plain ones, both the " and the ’
Good luck and thanks to everyone who’s helping out! (Including the probably overwhelmed, understaffed Mac support crew.)
I wrote a quick AppleScript that will kill the troublesome processes and start GW2. The script assumes the name of the application is “Guild Wars 2”.
- Open ‘AppleScript Editor’ by typing that in Spotlight or by opening it in your Applications > Utilities folder.
- Copy/Paste this code below into the editor.
- Click the File > Save… menu item to save your hard work
- Save As: ‘GW2’ (or anything you want)
- Where: Desktop
- File Format: Application (Application file format means you just have to double click and you’re good to go.)
Copy everything below this line:
set app_name to “Finder”
— Kill CVMCompiler
set the_pid to (do shell script "ps ax | grep " & “CVMCompiler” & " | grep -v grep | awk ‘{print $1}’")to split(the_pid, "")
repeat with a_pid in the_pid
if a_pid is not "" then do shell script ("kill -9 " & a_pid)
end repeat
end split— Kill cookied
set the_pid to (do shell script "ps ax | grep " & “cookied” & " | grep -v grep | awk ‘{print $1}’")
if the_pid is not "" then do shell script ("kill -9 " & the_pid)
-- log the_pid & " process was stopped."tell application “Guild Wars 2” to activate
Well, after having dome program testing myself, sometimes what appears to be a simple fix turns out to be a bit more complicated. Sometimes a LOT more complicated. At least we can be happy they are trying to make it work.
Brokenbrokenbrokenbroken, AGAIN! KittenkittenkittenKITTEN!
- Did the delete the Application Support Files – Nope
- Stopped the processes – Nope
- Deleted the local.dat – Nope
- Cookied- Nope
- Shazeal – Whaaaaa???
GROWL!
I have to chime in and say “ALL of the above.”
I really enjoy playing GW2, and would enjoy it even more if some of the issues that make this game so much fun were fixed/updated/improved.
Bonus: If you did, you’d get more Mac players!
And if you want to get MORE of our money … well, fix Black Lion. But that’s been said. I’m itching to spend gems, so help me out here!
Thanks and happy Wednesday!
Thank you! I would like to add, with Free Ice Cream™ you will also get Free Toppings™! How can this be refused?!
People are trolling the holo fight now btw
Trolling how?
I would like to report that following the update my GW2 client has also completely settled down. The gem store and BLT reliably open, there are no spinning and uncontrolled running errors and the client overall seems smoother and loads faster.
Impressive work! I hope ANet can package this with an official updater that addresses other issues at some time in the relatively near future.
Here is my Necro Norn, Icîé Dëdpépül. She’s lvl 38 and still trying to figure out what Necromancy route to follow. Oh, well, that’s another thread.
Works fine with Mavericks for me. I’m all updated with the latest build, as well. I have a 2009 27" iMac w/8gb ram, so nothing horribly special. Other than a very occasional spinning-mouse or stuck-running issue, it’s very playable. I have not played WvW or PvP (I’m scared of both from my exp. in other games), but in very busy areas, such as Lion’s Arch, it can get a tinny bit jerky, but nothing horrible.
Dual screen is still iffy. Windowed mode causes issues with resolution, and if it’s full screen, I can access the secondary screen but GW2 usually refuses to release the mouse.
One other weird issue I have is if I don’t set GW2 to use headphones before I start the launcher, it refuses to swap over to headphones unless I unplug the ext. speakers.
Other than that, works fine for me.
Apparently, I am also very lucky in that I have very few problems with my Mac install. It runs well for the most part, I get fair frame rates and I have few issues that so far are easily fixable by logging in and out (and entertain my friends in the meantime).
That being said, I would love a non-beta, possibly-native client, but I wonder if it will ever come about. I was a player of Sony’s Everquest for quite a while, and it suffered from the same issues I think the GW2 Mac client suffers from, a small user base. This ends up creating a sort of circular-logic conundrum: Macs are a small user base > therefore don’t devote lots of resources > therefore the client is not optimal > then the Mac client base either stagnates or shrinks > thus no incentive to increase support or develop further.
For now, I really enjoy playing. I have helped entice a couple of other Mac users to play and so far they are pretty pleased. So we’ll see.
Does GW2 use Java in any way shape or form? If so, there was an update released a bit ago that may help the problem. I haven’t installed Mavericks, yet, and have been waiting on the “all clear” before I do. Looks like it works great for most, though.
