Ascended armor bought from the PVP vendor also cannot be mystic forged to change stats. In case you are wondering why it is an issue since it has all HoT stats available, it does not include the new Seraph stats. Also, sometimes people might misclick. See link below -

Everytime I go with my zerg to take down Durios Post, I never get a gold credit for it, regardless if I rammed down the gate, DPSed the Champion, stood in the circle etc.

I tried once, not attacking anything except to stand in the circle and still got a bronze credit. I always get gold credit as long as I stand in the circle and tagged the lord.

Is this particular tower bugged? First picture shows the Righteous Indignation on the lord so I am definitely inside the tower and ready to get credit. Second picture shows what happens after the tower has flipped, and loot was taken, but as always, bronze credit.

Also in the borderlands, there’s one supply camp that sometimes doesn’t give you any credit at all, even when you are standing inside the circle. It’s the one nearest to the skritts and veteran wurm called Godslore.

See attached.

Here’s another bug I’ve encountered only recently since the recent 23rd December 2013 update.

I’ve been with my current guild for almost a year now, and have been granted the “Core” member status, as shown in the screenshot. However, the guild bonuses are not reflected whenever I go unto certain maps such as Eternal Battlegrounds, Blazeridge Steepes.

I’ve put my mouse cursor on the Guild symbol and nothing shows up.

Yet when I go back to my own borderlands, everything is okay. I go back to LA and it’s fine there too. See the screenshots. Might help me explain better.

Not sure if this has been highlighted before, or if I need to make a video to show proof of it. I was told that if I posted it on reddit, and put a video there, the bugs get fixed faster.

1. Ranger Longbow trait -
Increasing longbow and harpoon range to 1,500. The longbow #4 skill is still at 1,200 in the skill description. Any enemy that is more than 1,200 range no longer auto-attacks even though this was traited. You have to press #1 non-stop even though you are not out of range and your arrows hit.

2. Spirits Tooltip -
When traited, spirits have increased HP and increased from 35% to 70% to give you the boons on attack. However, the tooltip still shows 35% after traiting, so I don’t know if I can trust the trait at all.

3. Party buffs -
When I am in a party, priority of the buffs goes to my party members first before other people. In wvw, when we stack on the commander, and I use my pet’s special skill, for example, the juvenile jungle stalker, it’s supposed to give 5 stacks of might. No one in my party gets it.

Not even me. I don’t even get the 5 stacks of might myself.

But when I use my warhorn skill #5 to blast a fire field, everyone in my party gets the might buff, fury and swiftness.

4. Pets special attacks do not cast –
When I am running away from an enemy, I send my pet, the krytan drakehound to immobilize my enemy to allow me to escape. However, as soon as I am out of a certain range of the pet, even though I have clicked on it to cast, it stops casting halfway and runs towards me.

It only casts the immobilize when I am near the pet, i.e. I cannot run away, which counters the very point I have it. I am not able to use my pets special skill as a getaway mechanic. Yet, as I run, my pet continues to aggro and attack the pursuer, putting me in combat speed mode.

While it’s true that T6 dust is used more, the situation surrounding the Silver Doubloons is rather unique on its own, which is why I thought there is a need to intervene.

Assuming ArenaNet developers have the same thought process as you do for the aforesaid reasons, this has got to be the best investment decision anyone should make.

1. Insufficient supply sources.
2. Out of reach from the level 80s to generate sufficient supply. Only available to level 24 – 32 toons.

3. Price increases at a rate of approximately 5g a day for a stack of 250, which generates passive income and beats gold inflation via incredulous ROI. Once you sell them, you are not probably going to get them back through other means except via the auction house.

4. There are 12 legendary hammer precursors on sale at the trading post but only sufficient quantity of Silver Doubloons at any one time on the auction house to craft maybe 1 or 2 Juggernauts.

One can see where this is going to lead.

The reason why I am highlighting the plight of Silver Doubloons, is hoping against hope that it would get ANet’s attention, the same way I did previously with T6 dust.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/T6-Dust-Crisis/first

You can see how I kept track of the buying and selling prices for each day, as well as the total supply that is on the auction house. I’m not sure if ANet’s subsequent action to allow Globs of Ectoplasms to be salvageable into T6 dust was a result of my thread, but I’d like to think that it helped bring attention to that matter.

For anyone going after the legendary hammer and requiring 250 Silver Doubloons, your cost for this component just went up by 25g for the last 6 days that price tracking has started on this thread.

If you didn’t farm more than 5g a day, basically you are moving more out of the pocket each day. Supply for these things are so tight that it is highly unlikely that if you were to outbid the highest priced buyer, your order would get filled at all, even if they were just 10 Silver Doubloons.

If you want to get it, you gotta take the asking prices of the willing seller.

250 Silver Doubloons would cost anyone at current rates a whopping 365g and up.

Thanks everyone for your contribution. However, the prices are telling a very different story. If Silver Doubloons were as easy to obtain by forging, opening loot bags etc. at 460,000 players logged in playing concurrently at Guild Wars 2’s peak, we shouldn’t even be seeing these type of supply numbers (Total supply on the auction house is currently 503 pieces).

In fact, if they were even fairly easy to obtain, the prices won’t be where they are now. For example, are silk scraps easy to obtain? Yes they are. And how do we know that? Looking at the trading post, they are virtually selling at vendor value.

How do we know then that Silver Doubloons are not easy to obtain? They are not only not selling at vendor value, but they are selling wayyyy above vendor value.

Yesterday, prices were as follows -

As at 12.46pm, 8th September 2013,

Total supply on the trading post = 212
Buy Price = 1g 1s
Sell Price = 1g 32s

Today, 9th September 2013, as at 12:19pm,

One of the forummers commented that he managed to forge 6 Silver Doubloons easily, and earned 6g for himself.

Question – If it were so easy, why stop there? Might as well carry on forging and you can get yourself more than 1,000g based on the buying orders, which can easily absorb 1,000 pieces.

If you read my second (actually perhaps it’s 3rd) post you would see I didn’t stop there and made a further 11 until I ran out of all pebbles and lumps. I was not going to resort to buying pebbles as they are at about 1 silver each almost and since I don’t really need these items why should I? I had done enough tests and made some nice gold out of it.

I read your original post, I did a quick search on the wiki to see if I could find a solution for you. I did, then even tested it for you. I gave the feedback on those tests to say that hey it can work and you don’t need to muck about with low lvl alts sitting at jump puzzles (which if you ask me is an exploit of sorts since they are not actually doing the whole JP each day and just sitting right at the chest for the reward).

If you are not going to even look at trying that for yourself or accepting there are viable methods to obtain this item that you want; then all I can say is good luck with getting Anet to hand these items to you on a silver platter.

Hey Paulytnz,

I appreciate the kind gesture of you taking time to look up the wiki and running tests of your own to help out on the Silver Doubloons. Before I submitted this post, I actually also did tests on my own and googled other player’s experiences with obtaining this item.

You got really lucky at the forge and I’m not certain if you realized it. In fact, if you were to look over at the crafting discussion page, you will see similar posts about the same topic right on the first page.

Those threads were created 3 months ago before mine, and prices at that time rose from 40s to over 80s a piece. I hope this doesn’t come across as me putting you or anyone down for that matter, but for the many of us who are trying to get 250 Silver Doubloons for the legendary hammer, the conclusion was, parking multiple alts that are around the level 24 at jumping puzzle chests, was the least painful way of obtaining them.

Today, 10th September 2013, as at 1:43am,

Total supply on the trading post = 491

Ever since the patch came in, Opal Orbs have now become Precision and Critical Damage stats only. Is this working as intended (meaning to only have 2 stats as a level 80 item) or am I missing something here?

OliverT.9021

Hi ANet Developers,

Silver doubloons don’t really have much of a function in game except being one of the main components in crafting the legendary hammer.

However, due to the item’s level 20 status, it is virtually impossible for a level 80 character to obtain it via loot drops since most loot scale to the character’s personal level.

This has resulted in many of us, who are after the legendary hammer, to create toons and levelling them to between 25 and 31, which we then park them at jumping puzzle chests in the hopes of getting a silver doubloon.

We are not able to play and level these alts farther because once they pass that level threshold, they are no longer able to loot silver doubloons and will end up looting gold doubloons instead.

The legendary hammer requires 250 of these Silver Doubloons and the obscene price increase of this item, with the declining supply of it, is rather stark at the current moment.

As at 12.46pm, 8th September 2013,

Total supply on the trading post = 212
Buy Price = 1g 1s
Sell Price = 1g 32s

He tends to die a lot due to the lack of stability, when he goes to collect orichalcum at the node where the champion karka sits. My guardian doesn’t seem to have that problem though.

Time Limited Edition – Fused Weapons.

People scramble and rush to open black lions chest. Some say they have used more than 150 keys before getting their first fused ticket. End result = Fused weapons can now be sold on the Trading Post and are now going to be back on the Auction House, redeemable for 7 Black Lion Claims Ticket.

Time Limited Edition – Sclerite Weapon Skins

Like the Fused Weapon skins example, not supposed to return, but they will soon be available also via Black Lion Claims Ticket. I think you need 3 of these.

Time Limited Example – Wintersday Weapon Skins

Supposedly only available last Wintersday via the Gem Store, these are also now back for sale.

Time Limited Example – Unlimited Molten Picks, Sickles and Logging Axe

Supposed to be time limited sale and never to return. Whoops, here they are. Back for more. You know this contender by now….

Account Bound FOTM RNG Fractal Weapon Skins -

Given ANET’s outstanding record, I’d believe we should be able to sell these soon on the auction house too.

Limited time doesn’t necessary mean never to return. The sales were never advertised as one time only. They were advertised as limited time. That means what it says. They stop selling it at a certain point. They certainly never said it would never be offered again.

And even if they had, the number of people requesting it on the forums means they’re listening to their player base.

Also, Fractal skins will never be sold on the trading post, I think, because they’re there to prove you’ve done the dungeon…much like dungeon tokens aren’t sold on the trading post.

In any case, those time limited weapon skins have now all turned from account bound, to being sellable on the auction house.

The fact that these weapon skins returned means ANet is listening to their player base. That’s wonderful. I hope they are listening to the numerous request from players to find an alternative way to obtain the fractal weapon skins that they want.

I’ve got like 2 hammers, 1 scepter, 1 rifle, 1 shield. What I really want was actually the torch and the sword. I understand where you are coming from. Dungeon tokens aren’t sold, but they can be used to exchange for skins. Fractal weapons on the other hand, can’t.

Southsun Cove vs Invasion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: OliverT.9021

OliverT.9021

Here are the similarities -

1. To spawn the Karka Queen in Southsun Cove, players need to secure and defend the 4 different outposts.

To spawn Scarlet, players need to defeat 3 waves of invasion.

2. When the Karka Queen is slain, players will receive 2 guaranteed rares and a chest.
When Scarlet is defeated, players will receive 2 guaranteed rares and a choice between 50 watchwork pieces or 5 pieces of loot (which is green or better)

3. The Karka Queen meta event was implemented as a permanent feature and tied to the Living Story arc, and slaying the Karka Queen was one of the achievements.
The current Clockwork Chaos meta event is going to be implemeneted as a permanent feature and tied to the Living Story arc, and defeating the waves of invasion is also one of the achievements.

Actually, the Clockwork Chaos works more like a requirement because you need to complete those achievements in order to play Scarlet’s Funhouse, defeat her, in order to be able to once again, gain access to the Crown Pavillion.

4. End result? Southsun Cove is now as desolated as before the story arc took place, and no one bothers to do the dynamic events, even though they are less tedious than the current invasion meta.

End result for this invasion event implementation? Judging from player’s response to Southsun Cove, and given the stark similarities on the Karka Queen and Scarlet events, my take is that this invasion is likely to be left out in the cold once players get their achievements done.

If I see some cool armor that I like, I’d make a character just so I have a character who can wear it. Same goes with the legendaries. I liked the Flameseeker Prophecies but didn’t have any toon who could wield a shield, so I made a Guardian.

Right now, I’ve got 5 toons. Might be making a 6th soon. Just waiting for the character slot discount to come by, and then I can make one to wear the Aetherblade light armor.

Some traits not working in Gauntlet

Hi there,

I was trying out the gauntlet fights yesterday with my guardian. I traited “Inner Fire”, the one where your toon gets fury if he gets burnt.

So I went to add on the “Burning” gambit before my fight. Once inside, I hear my character screaming “it burns!” but I don’t see him getting any fury at all.

The trait is already kinda meh on its own since guardians have to get burnt in order to get fury. Question – Is this burning gambit working as intended, and therefore, I can forget about that “Inner Fire” trait completely (since I don’t use it in either pvp or pve at all)?

What about using a necromancer instead? If I were to cast Well of Power, do I instantly gain aegis (converted from burning), haste (converted from cripple) and what not? How about consume conditions? Do I get to heal more?

Or transferring conditions ability via arcane thievery via Mesmer?

I passed by shop selling DVDs and VCDs of movies and I saw on some covers, I think it was the Golden Compass… There was a polar bear wearing some sort of armour.

And it got me thinking… Why do ranger pets strut around naked?

I would totally love to make a ranger if I can get a pet stalker to put on some rave armor or something like this -

Here’s my necromancer and my guardian. I just put on whatever I think looks nice. Not adhered to social norms that necromancers have got to be dark, green, fiendish.

What’s on my necromancer -

1. Helm – Not showing.
2. Shoulders – T3 Human cultural
3. Chest – TA
4. Gloves – Masterwork crafted, called mending wraps.
5. Legs – COE
6. Boots – COF

What’s on my guardian -

1. Helm – Vigil
2. Shoulders – Vigil
3. Chest – COE
4. Gloves – Vigil
5. Legs – COE
6. Boots – Vigil

An updated screenshot of my necro…. Still trying to find a suitable backpiece and headpiece.

I do have some ideas, but I’m not a computer programmer so how feasible for these things to work are really beyond me….

Since the meteorlogicus is an orrery of planets, I think it would be cool whenever the scepter is drawn, we see a supernova explosion. And as for the footfalls, we could have the aurora borealis effect. What do you guys think?

The Flameseeker Prophecies I think is in pretty good shape on its own. Maybe footfalls could be added as a form of polish (my limited imagination can’t think up of any appropriate footprints for it at the moment). Or we could have the book glow at all times, instead of only when drawn. The shield could remain darkened when sheathed.

As for the Minstrel, this one is really difficult. Don’t have any good thoughts on it.

Reposting just to put everything together in one place. I also agree that the Minstrel and the Meteorlogicus is severely underwhelming. To make things worse for the Minstrel, the illusions of the Mesmer don’t even wield it on their offhand.

Flameseeker Prophecies is another beautiful legendary with lacking effects, and only 2.5 classes can wield it. (I don’t really consider Engineers being able to wield weapons because once they kit up, everything is gone). I liked it a lot, so I crafted it nontheless, and had to make a totally new character that is heavy class who can equip it.

Why is there not an equal distribution of the number of effects on each of them? Some have as many as 9 effects while others lacklustre with only 1 mediocre effect for show.

Twilight (same as Sunrise except for color difference)
Number of Effects = 9

1. Moving or swinging your weapon leaves a painterly afterimage. This trail also acts as a window into space just as the blade does.

2. The player’s body is surrounded with a soft dark aura while drawn.

3. The weapon gives off a short burst of light when drawn.

4. The blade is surrounded with a soft aura while drawn. The aura’s color reflects the blade’s color.

5. Animated prismatic flares appear behind the blade while drawn.

6. White sparkles pop off the blade while drawn.

7. The blade’s edge is a painterly design whose texture shifts and rotates around the blade.

8. Spiked red glow at the base of the blade which moves from one side to the other.

9. Mirror Blade, Binding Blade, Bladetrail, and Whirling Wrath are altered slightly, the player throws Twilight rather than the default thrown projectiles.

Minstrel
Number of Effects = 0.5

1. Occasionally, faint musical notes and symbols float around the focus.

Meteorlogicus
Number of Effects = 1

1. The weapon also has a light glowing effect that trails a short distance behind the weapon as the player moves.

Bifrost
Number of Effects = 5

1. The Bifrost is surrounded by an ever glowing rainbow colored aura.

2. A faint trail of light when swung, and has crystalline shapes floating around the tip.

3. It also adds a glow to the character while drawn.

4. Makes the character leave rainbow puddle footsteps.

5. Small rainbows are also left behind the character.

Bolt
Number of Effects = 8

1. Lightning surrounds the weapon when it is drawn.

2. Lightning surrounds the user’s body when the sword is drawn or stowed if equipped in main hand slot.

3. Purple aura surrounds the user’s body when the sword is drawn.

4. Leaves trails of lightning when slashing.

5. Unique sound effects when slashing and striking.

6. Lightning footprints when walking and the weapon is equipped (does not need to be drawn).

7. Mesmer clones will inherit all the graphic and sound effects of Bolt when wielded in the main hand.

8. An enemy killed by Bolt will display electrocuted death animations.

The list goes on, and the descriptions of the various weapon effects can be found on the Guild Wars 2 wiki link (which I’ve copied and pasted the list of effects from) – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

My question is… Why such a huge disparity in effects especially for something that is supposedly “the pinnacle of weaponry in Guild Wars 2” ala Isiah Cartwright?

Anet knew there was definitely a problem with dust and it wasn’t because of southsun… I wouldn’t start complaining about ecto prices because it’s fairly easy to obtain them if you have a black lion salvage kit…

I give props to LoneWolfie.1852, been agreeing with you this whole time :P

Don’t I get credit for it too, for starting this thread? ;p And the daily effort for tracking and posting prices and supply.

Thank you Anet for listening!

Demand or buy listings for Crystalline Dust dropped from 35,000+ to 29,000 along with the price decline. Speculators hoard is only about 6,000. This is the initial knee-jerk effect from the announcement. There may be more out there, or this could be the entire stash that people are holding for “investment” purposes.

Dust supply at the moment is still unchanged at 4,335 pieces. At least, now we know this amount is going to increase. So relieved!

Weekend is nearly over in the US. It’s a working Monday morning (almost noon time now) here in Asia already.

Total supply available on the TP = 3,896 pieces
Buying price = 37s 48c
Selling price = 38s 72c

Just thinking aloud… If after the Southsun Cove event ends, and prices don’t drop, and rises instead, are we going to blame it on “everyone is busy farming dragon bash and don’t have time to return to Orr (sorry, couldn’t help the pun)”? And then blame it on whatever event that comes next after dragon bash….

T6 Dust Crisis

It’s the use of words like crisis. The moment that word appeared in a thread and a few people started buying up crystalline dust, that was the moment the problem became compounded, if there was a problem there in the first place. Pointing it out is simple logic.

Nope its a conspiracy theory and like I said you lambast others for similar theories about anet.

Umm, actually it’s not a conspiracy theory and you need to learn to read more carefully.

I didn’t say the OP did this thing….I said I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. A completely different statement than saying the OP did this intentionally.

More importantly, using a sensationalist headline, whether intentionally or not WILL affect prices on the TP. How could it not?

It only takes a relatively small amount of people acting on a sensationalist headline to affect prices and start a stampeded…intentional or not.

For the record, I already did state that I had a vested interest in hoarding Crystalline Dust. For crafting of my Bifrost, I need 750 pieces. For the crafting of my 2nd legendary, I will need 500 + 100 pieces, the other 100 being used to promote cores to lodestones.

All in, I am holding close to about 1,500 pieces. Should I give up on my quest halfway, then yes, I will sell my stash for cash. Else, this hoard is going to be used at the end. This is completely anedoctal but me alone, just 1 person needing 1,500 pieces is an insane amount when compared to the availability of the supply of mats on the auction house.

If there were any malicious intent on my part to attempt to raise the price through this forum, and thinking that it would work, then I should have posted on Ancient Bones and Vicious Claws as well because these rose in price along with Crystalline Dust around the same time.

In fact, if ArenaNet’s client were to go down or if I had any game updates I wanted to find, Reddit would be the to-go-to site to see if other players were having the same issues. Moreover, I have hardly established any presence, repute and thus have virtually no one know who I am here, as compared to Vayne. How would my words have carried such substantial weight to lift prices from 32s when I started keeping track, till the current 39ish to 40s?

If ever, the only reason why mine was the first to post about T6 dust is because of the reason that I have learnt how to read charts and there was a technical breakout at the 30s resistance level, and the formation of a price pattern which chartists call a flag formation.

One of your postings talked about Charged Lodestones being in inadequate supply. How do you know that?

How do we know that Silk Scraps are being created in abundance and has more supply than demand?

What is the metric used to determine that?

Then use that metric and apply it to Crystalline Dust and then decide for yourselves whether it is going to be a crisis or not. That’s how I derived my opinion.

In other words, we are virtually going into negative supply flow at the rate it is being used than the rate it is being “created”, so to speak.

Not long ago, sell order supply was nearly 0 and now it’s nearly 5000 units. It’s also been said that the dust is used in many crafting/forge recipes, do you have data on how much is sold and how much is consumed each day? You seem to be making a lot of assumptions based on little evidence.

From what I see there has been some manipulation of the market by opportunists, plus a drop in the number of people gathering the dust which led to an increase in price. This in turn leads to the dumping of hoarded supplies by those same opportunists, and an increase in gathering by people who notice the higher price, which leads to an increase in supply.

In the words of one of recent history’s greatest philosophers, “Don’t Panic.”

I don’t have data on how much is sold and how much is consumed each day. None of us do. It doesn’t mean we cannot make a calculated estimate on that.

Let’s look at Silk Scraps for example. How do we know that if the game is producing more than it is being consumed?

Then let’s look at Charged Lodestones. How do we know that if the game is producing more than it is being consumed? Especially during the days before the Orrian boxes were introduced and the buff to the drops on these items in the CoE dungeon. How do we know that it is now being sufficiently produced?

After analyzing, one of the clear metrics that gives us a lot of information is the price.

Regardless whether it is actually consumed, i.e. thrown into the mystic forge for making stuff, or bought for investment/speculation purposes, the buyer can only click “buy”.

The same goes with the sellers. Hence, the end demand and end supply will give you some sort of idea how the market is like for that particular material. Thus, we say, in the price, it has incorporated all the unseen and unobservable factors.

Price stability is also key. Like Silk Scraps and the Charged Lodestones, regardless of the presence of “investors”, “flippers” or “speculators”, the rate of change of the price and the price trends will tell you that more or less, charged lodestones are in equilibrium, barring any new developments such as new receipes etc.

The fact that price for Crystalline Dust is still trending with an upward bias tells me that supply is not outstripping or meeting demand at this point.

What happens when the trading post is the one that runs out of T6 dust?

The system generally regulates itself – you have mistaken artificial scarcity caused by speculators with a real shortage of materials. Because these materials are virtual and not real, they cannot actually “run out.” But speculators buying up the cheaper offerings and sitting on them for later resale at a much higher rate can cause a temporary shortage in available mats for other uses.

The only ones truly affected are the impatient, and those who think that an available supply of 500 units means that there are only 500 units in the entire game world.

I understand the logic behind the argument that these materials are virtual and therefore cannot so called “run out”. However, if you remember a previous example, the exotic staff “Final Rest” was also a virtual item, and 7 months into the game, it could not be found.

I’m sure most of us who followed the Final Rest debacle fondly remember how Anet says it’s a rare drop and that’s why it’s not found yet. Lo and behold, one shady patch later, Final Rest started dropping like nobody’s business.

Whether this tier of dust is indeed being hoarded by people who wants to sell it for a higher price, or whether they are hoarding it now because they need to use it later and don’t want to risk paying higher prices later remains to be seen.

Either way, the game on its own, I’m sure we would agree to this, is that the amount of dust that drops and the percentage of that amount that goes into the auction house for sale, is not sufficient to make up for the demand.

In other words, we are virtually going into negative supply flow at the rate it is being used than the rate it is being “created”, so to speak.

use laurels from daily and monthly and buy the heavy crafting material bags. Sell all mats except T6 dust and then buy more T6 dust from TP.
Or you can get a ton of T5 dust and upgrade those?

The receipe for upgrading T5 dust into T6 is as below -

1 Crystalline dust + 250 incandescent dust + 5 Philosopher’s Stone + 5 Crystals

1 Crystalline dust = 37s 98c
250 Incandescent dust @ 2s 74c each = 685s

Total cost = 37s 98c + 685s = 722s 98c

If you take the total cost of 722s 98c and divide it by the Crystalline dust price of 37s 98c, you would get 19.03.

This means that if your upgrade yields more than 19 pieces of Crystalline dust, congratulations, you made a profit (then again, skill points were assumed to be worth 0)

If you get less than 19 pieces of Crystalline dust, it means that you would be better off selling the T5 dust, and using the proceeds to fund the equivalent worth of your T6. On top of that, you have completely wasted your skill points in the form of crystals and stones.

So… did you get more than 19 pieces using the upgrade receipe?

Ultimately, the topic is about tackling the problem of supply of this particular tier of dust in general and not for myself specifically. While using laurels to get the T6 mats, and then selling off those you don’t need/want to buy T6 dust from the auction house is feasible to a certain extent, it returns back to the issue this topic has raised.

What happens when the trading post is the one that runs out of T6 dust?

The game is becoming a Grind

T6 I disagree with you, you’ll eventually get all you need without even farming, though you could farm some areas for half an about a day and get a decent amount (well, not that many, more like 1-5, the latter if you bare lucky.) You can also get lucky opening heavy bags of all sorts, which are not that hard to come by.

Some mats are too rare for casuals to get casually, which I am against: most lodestones and a few specialty, Legendary recipe items (in my case, I have to gamble low level gems at the Mystic Forge for 250 surprisingly super rare Silver Doubloons… TP flippers caught on this item long ago and sell them for higher than Vials of Powerful Blood, though the latter are more common so it’s “understandable”.)

I did map completion for a 2nd time, on a level 80 guardian, and when I completed that task, I had an amazing total of less than 30 T6 mats in the bank.

Sometimes the reason behind the rush to get the legendary or whatever weapon that the player intends to craft, is just so that it doesn’t get more expensive than it currently is.

I remembered a time when Silver Doubloons were 21s. I bought one stack of them just in case they became as expensive as lodestones, and at that point in time when I bought them, I haven’t decided which legendary to go for.

Those Silver Doubloons cost me about 52g or so. At current prices of 75s thereabouts, that same stack I bought in January 2013, just 6 months ago, is a whopping 187g 50s. Do it even slower and you end up paying the price.

If no one is undercutting you, then how can it be a market?

If it is not a market, then where are your buyers coming from?

Let me put it in another way…

CoF p1 netts you 5g an hour.

How are you able to nett 5g an hour if you run around Orr to make it worth your time? Because earning anything less than 5g an hour, you might as well go back to CoF p1.

The answer is, the price of the loot you get increases to a point where they become worth 5g in total.

Which means that the price of the materials you get from Orr, has to rise to a point where it becomes equally rewarding as running CoF p1, not because ArenaNet made it to be so, but because of price increase.

When that happens, arbitrage is said to have taken place because that is the point where supply will come back and demand will normalize.

That’s not arbitrage.

Arbitrage must have a high possibility of being risk-free.

If you order 50 common armor at 12 coppers, the risk is that someone would outbid you, or the risk is that your order won’t get filled at that price.

If you queue to sell 50 common armor that you bought at 12 coppers to make a profit, the risk is that someone would undercut you, or that your order to sell will not get filled at that price because no one is willing to pay that price to buy the common armor.

Because of the various risk components involved, this is not arbitrage.

Arbitrage is the bridging of differences in pricing for the same commodity that doesn’t involve any meaningful risk.

In simple terms, what I’ve just written is to say that prices of materials that face heavy demand, will continue to rise in price to the point where, doing CoF p1 to earn money to buy the materials, makes no difference than spending the same amount of time farming them yourself out in the open world.

Not trying to scare people or send them into a frenzy, but anyone who has had experience with real life markets, or have studied economics, ought to know the efficient market theorem.

What that theory is about can be described by the following example -

If there are any profits to be made without any risk, for example stocks that are dual listed. Let’s just hypothesize that ArenaNet is listed both in Singapore and in Hong Kong stock markets.

If ArenaNet shares are selling for HK$6 a share in Hong Kong, and in Singapore they are selling for S$0.50 a share, where the currency exchange ratio is 1S$ = HK$6, then people will buy the Singapore shares to re-sell them in Hong Kong for a straight profit of S$0.50 per share.

This is called arbitrage.

Likewise, when more and more people realize the overwhelming odds of farming for materials vs farming for gold to buy materials, they will gyrate towards CoF p1 farming, for 5g an hour.

All the nerfing done by ArenaNet, as you pointed out, merely sped up this process.

When will all this stop? When the arbitrage window closes. What does this mean?

How many T6 dust does one player get when he/she runs around Orr killing stuff? Maybe 2 T6 dust in an hour, on top of the other loots he/she may get?

How much gold does one player get when he/she runs CoF p1 for 1 hour? Around 5g right?

Hence, the price of the T6 mat has to be around 2.5g a piece. When this happens, it makes no difference whether you farm CoF p1 for an hour or you run around Orr trying to get the T6 mat for an hour.

And that’s where the arbitrage will end.

Scary isn’t it? Of course, this is assuming that everyone is running CoF p1 to buy T6 dust, which isn’t true. Many people run CoF for different reasons. Some run it to get tokens, some run it to get gold to buy other stuff they need, and not necessarily T6 dust or even T6 mats.

Due to the large variable of materials that are available and required for higher end weapons, this arbitrage situation is a little more complicated to work out than the example I gave.

The bottomline is, this arbitrage window will only close, once prices for the materials that are being farmed matches the time and rewards that CoF p1 provides, which based on current prices, I’d say over the longer run, the price increase for T6 materials isn’t over by a long shot.
