Dota 2 -like chat wheel with simple commands.

You basically press a bind and a circular grid pop ups in the middle of the screen. Then you hover over the command you want to announce and release bind. Very easy.

Now that solo que is in game i think it would be a great addition. Commands such as “Help Mid!”, “Help Node A!” or “Help me destroy enemy trebuchet!” for instance.

I'm done.

The newest content really was my breaking point. After trying out the new 1man dungeon for good 15 minutes I close the game and uninstalled. Why?

First off, the dungeon seemed extremely cheaply done. I get thrown into an instance without any intro or cut scene to kill a boss I know nothing off. Maybe I would’ve known more about him if I actually read the dialogs, but after suffering through the nickelodeon personal story, I decided that GW2 wasn’t ever going to be my source of interesting story. The boss fight itself was extremely boring and minigame-like. I think I remember you saying about your game that “you actually play the game, not the ui”. And here I am searching the GOD kitten CHAT for tells on what to do.

Second, I think this game is the best example about the most infuriating trend in gaming there is… Advertising a complete product and releasing only a part of it. Rest of the content is promised later. To me this borders on illegality. Everything you have added to this game has been more or less complete bs and undone. WvW talent build? I respect you enough to grant you this: You cannot be as stupid as to think that dealing 5% more damage to guards would make any difference or give the players any sense of incentive. You release this rotten crap that you plan on improving in the future. Like a bakery selling raw dough as bread… Do not even get me started on sPvP in this topic, that’s been incomplete from release to this day.

Third, you seem to have no clue what direction you’re going with with sPvP. I think at some point you wanted to have the names of the best players carved in a monument in the heart of the mists. Now we have “friendlistboards” that players without a team get nil from. Before this we had the Qualifying Point system, that was even more horrid. We also had 8 -team free and paid tournys… 2-team paid and free tournys (“tournament”… there’s some irony there)… then you removed the paid tournaments and tickets altogether and made free tournaments the main tournament system.
You also made a couple more maps. Beautiful yes, but it doesn’t matter which textiles I’m running on, if the game mode is kitten, classes/builds horribly tuned and the combat spastic spam fest the sPvP crap is going to fizzle out. “E-sports! It’s gonna happen!” Please… a game needs to be entertaining to watch for a wide audience to gain enough of a mass to actually get a decent competition going. Right now we have unkillable bm rangers grinding bunker eles for 10minutes and horrible teams dying to on-point aoe only to get resurrected a second later with a whatever utility and continuing to win the team fight. Someone summed this up really well in another topic with something in the lines of “there is never going to be a top 10 plays of the week video about gw2”. Why? There is no skillful play here. Only mesmer-porting to the right node with more players or mist stomping someone if the res signet happens to be in cooldown.

Fourth, the pve is a joke. Grinding automated, over hyped event loot pinatas that either lag like hell or die literally in 2 seconds. Fractals? Jesus… you are forced to play the same content to play more of the same content. Dynamic events? Please… the centaurs raid the village when I go to sleep and the centaurs raid the village when I wake up. Dungeons? I have yet to be in a dungeon run that actually CLEARED the dungeon… for every corridor, event or boss fight there is a gimmick that makes it able for players to skip the badly designed and tedious mechanics or needlessly long bossfights designed by ArenaNet. Call it Gimmick Wars 2 for accuracy. WvW (yes, this absolutely is pve) I cannot really comment on because I never enjoyed following blue dots in the map for hours and never really focused on it. I don’t know… maybe some enjoy it.

So after playing on and off for almost a year, I’m off. It was a bad run. Horrible. I started playing with a group of dozen that withered to just two in less than a month. If you had chosen the subscription payment method for this game it would’ve sank a long ago like sw:tortanic.

Ps. Read this, don’t read this, delete this… I don’t care. I had to summarize my experience from this game. Would get a refund if I could and won’t check replies.

Question: With the introduction of ladders and rankings there also needs to be ladder resets and/or “seasons”.
How are you planning on resetting the ladder?
How often will the ladders be reset?
How will your efforts and success in previous season show in the next?
(Rewards? A unique logo next to your name would be cool… something like the world completion star maybe).
Looking at the statistics and collected data from each season is a great way to balance the game. How will ArenaNet avoid “revolving door” balancing, where the least used professions and/or specs get buffed and the most utilized get nerfed? How will you make the difference between well used/popular and overpowered or rarely played and undertuned?

Can't enter dungeons in groups. Help!

Oniverse.5146

Hey,

I have a long time problem when trying to enter a dungeon with a group. I can always enter a dungeon solo just fine, but as soon as there’s someone in my group i cannot enter the dungeon.

I’ve tried to get into the gw2 pve many times and the last three times i felt like doing a dungeon I’ve been unable to get inside with the group. I’m not completely sure if the error code is always the same, but I found screenshots atleast of error code=1006:9:7:392:101 (didn’t really find anything relevant by googling that).

It really is a shame because I would love to check the dungeons out atleast once. Ahwell…

Thanks in advance, hopefully there’s a fix out for this.

If they would have said “hey guys this is our plan for ratings ____”, and opened like a post on the forums for feedback, I gaurentee you solo queue, public numerical ratings, and single map match making would have gone into the design.

This times a hundred. More openness is definitely needed. It might have been a tall order to get some civil responses in a thread like that a few months ago but now that the spvp is in a free fall and the ragekids have quit the game I think the voices of players who really want to improve the game could now be heard.

A dev response in this thread would be a fantastic thing. But I dream…

Oniverse.5146

Agree 100%.

I don’t have enough words in my vocabulary to describe how INFURIATING it is, that still MONTHS after the release there is no visible rating and a proper solo queue implemented. If baffles me severely how you can make a great (potential to be the best) pvp game and do NOTHING to support it with.

I have played quite a few games solely for the pvp: WoW arena, BLC, Dota1, HoN, League of Legends… all of these games have a working rating that you can grind. People LOVE to grind ratings. If the ratings have a meaning. Grinding for grades in hot-join or playing for QPs is without a shadow of a doubt the most backwarded system in a game that’s supposed to be a competitive pvp game that I know of. There is absolutely NOTHING to be proud of for, say, grade 40. It’s a measure for time invested. Yet, at the same time people go freaking nuts trying to get to diamond league or to get over 2000+ rating in another games. These things gamers actually care about… hell, almost every time i check these forums or ANY gaming forums someone’s boasting about their “multiglads” or “over 2,2k ratings”.

I’m no expert but I think it wouldn’t require much from arenaNET. I’m hopeful we will get a seperate solo and team que and a rating system to go with it soon. The game would freaking explode in popularity after this. Just see what happened to League of Legends. How can a very low budget game (HoN for instance) have 100 000 concurrent players online playing the game when the multimillion budget game that’s sold over 3 million copies have virtually EMPTY pvp lobby and nonexistent competitive community (in a game this size calling a few competitive teams a community is a pretty grande).

And please, if you ever implement this system: don’t announce the leaderboards or ratings in a forum post. It just seems extremely cheap and “sidenote-ish” (my english failed me here). These leaderboards need to be visible IN the game and need to jump in everyone’s face when playing pvp. The least you could do for the top players is to give them some recoqnition.

Oniverse.5146

Hey,

The function that you can give people in your friend list a customized note is one I’ve really grown fond of. I only play the sPVP -mode in GW2, and I like to add a lot of like minded people to my friend list to group up again in future. For instance if I meet an extremely good necromancer in a tournament I might add him to my friend list with the note “very good necro”

But today I logged in and noticed that all my notes were gone… I now have a huge collection of fellow pvp players on my list who I know nothing of. Is there a way to get my notes back?

Thanks in advance.

Down system SPVP is not good

Oniverse.5146

What i meant was that GW2 has no NEED for gigantic crowd controls because of downed state. I think the longest fear in the game lasts 3,75 seconds. Much more enjoyable and skill based game play than in other mmos.

And yes, in other games there is no ‘stability’ and downed state is almost always preventable in Gw2 without “hiding in corners or completely avoiding fights”.

Oniverse.5146

I take downed state as the form of crowd control any day over 10-15 second sleeps, fears, polymorphs or whatevs like in other MMOs. Getting downed is actually something you can prevent whereas getting chain controlled by a few players with a voice com you can’t.

This times a thousand. ArenaNET: please fix this and make the spvp games use matchmaking based on your visible rating. A hundred times better system than glory/rank farming.

Oniverse.5146

I disagree with you. Downed state is pretty much what I like most about pvp. It works well.

I have played many pvp games that have absolutely kitten amount of crowd control spells. Fears that last for 10 seconds. Polymorphs that last for 10+ seconds. This if something hurts the flow of the game.

Downed state is THE crowd control of Guild Wars 2. If someone over extends himself and doesn’t play his cards right he’s about to get downed. And if there isn’t someone around to clean up your mistakes you’re dead. Love it – a system that truly punishes you for playing bad. And even if you do get downed, you still have the ability to deal damage and whatnot.

Also, if this game ever gets a spectator mode, the downed state will be a fantastic thing to look for in the casted games. The system will produce some nice nail biter moments if the downed player gets ressed or stomped.

I also dislike the current hot join but deleting would be a little harsh. At least the system has to be built around matchmaking and rating to give people the incentive to play better. Right now it’s just something where people go to test bad builds.

OT: I think ArenaNET needs to make the tournament system a little clearer. I have played this game since launch, and i just learned a week ago you can queue to tournament games without a group. The pointlessness of free tournaments that don’t give any rating or whatsoever is a whole another topic.

Seeing that you’re using a staff and a GS i’d drop the 20% off the phantasm summons and pick extra bounce for staff 1 and gs 2.

The extra bounce is very handy in 1v1: if you’re around 500 range from your target and spam staff 1 the projectile will first hit the target, then bounce back to you and hit your target again. If you do this with 3 clones the target will have so many conditions that he’s guaranteed to die if he doesn’t remove them and fast.

I play a supporty condition damage mesmer, that’s extremely good in team fights and almost unbeatable in 1v1. Other mesmer specs are allright for me aswell.

How do I play PvP in GW2 (this Christmas)?

in PvP

Posted by: Oniverse.5146

Oniverse.5146

Read it all but
TL/DR: How do I make sPvP an enjoyable, strategy over random chance, learning experience instead of just running around with or without an endlessly changing group against an endlessly changing group?

This is exactly how i feel and what point I have tried to bring through in the beta forums and the post-launch forums. The sPvP seems a little dumbed down with masses just circling the map and capping the nodes (if even that). Points are given for completely wrong reasons in sPvP (whole team caps one node for instance). Sometimes it feels like the spvp is played inside a revolving door…

My solution to this would be a solo que 5v5 matches that were rated and matchmade. Getting more rating points is much more rewarding than getting more rank points, which is basically just your /age in the pvp part of the game. (I made a gigantic post about this a few weeks back, that got 0 replies… :/)

But to answer your question, I think you should try to gather a group and start practicing tournament play in free modes. Also, the hot join matches are now 5v5 and 8v8, and the metagames really are different in both modes; my advice would be to only play 5v5, because that amounts to something and the tournaments are always played 5v5.

A rating & matchmaking system for solo que

in PvP

Posted by: Oniverse.5146

Oniverse.5146

5) The gap between practicing GW2 PvP and playing tournaments is too big. Through a ranked solo que system players would actually learn necessary skills in competitive tournament play and would learn the right ways and actions to improve. Coming up with a new & good idea that after a little playing around with grants you, say, a hundred rating points is a deal more rewarding than gaining a new rank to grind.
People that feel like they are improving actually feel more comfortable taking the next step and are more likely to try their skills in tournament play. This creates more competition… better competition and more interest on becoming the best.On to my next and related point:

6) A rated solo que/matchmaking system creates interest in competitive tournaments. “Oh that’s how the top players deal with that problem I’ve been having… could I use this technique to better my own playing?”. Watching streams and videos or even watching matches through the spectator mode would actually benefit the players more because they would actually get to use the knowledge and see the effect the learning has. Streams and videos watched of a game is always good publicity and better business! (a side note for anyone from aNet reading this: please explore the paid ticket for the viewing of bigger tournaments (Dota 2 for instance). I honestly feel like Guild Wars 2 really has the potential to snowball into something truly remarkable in the E-sport arena.

I am hopeful that ArenaNET will see the potential in their own game and the opportunities this simple change would open.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion and opinions appreciated greatly :p

A rating & matchmaking system for solo que

in PvP

Posted by: Oniverse.5146

Oniverse.5146

Hey,

First off I would like to thank ArenaNET for creating an absolutely stunning game that shines on so many aspects all the way from the unique art style to the flawless and fluid gameplay.
But to me the most important side to a game is the competitive side. The option to compete against other players in a fair environment. To me, and I’m sure to other like players aswell, this is the most rewarding style of gaming. It’s where hard work and deeper understanding of the game pays back the most.
And Guild Wars 2 really caters well to the lovers of PvP. The game has huge potential to become a very successful (sorry for using the term) “E-sport”. A lot of the fundamental parts that make a great PvP game are already in place, and they are done well for a new game. The balance in sPvP keeps getting better and better without the thinly veiled rotating “flavor of the month” -shenanigans, the professions are all unique and feel different from one another, the maps are amazing and offer a lot of options for creative team play and the tournament system is a good start that the coming spectator mode will really make whole.

All this said, I find it absolutely foolish that there isn’t any kind of ranking system in the game for individual players in the form of a rated solo que option coupled with matchmaking (the current Rank -system is basically just a /age meter for PvP). This is what keeps me from really diving in to the game or having the will to invest time learning Guild Wars 2. I’ve tried to list reasons why such system would only benefit the game:

1) Right now, to me at least, there really isn’t a reason to play sPvP. My time is very limited, and logging in a few nights in a week doesn’t grant me any sense of progress. I cannot commit to a tournament team in my current situation, so my only option is to play hot-join that has no incentives. This would be fixed by having a ranking system, where I could see the results of my efforts. Add matchmaking to this and I have a meaningful reason to improve my playing: playing better gets me matched up against better opponents! The challenge is what keeps players interested in games.

2) The system where you’re supposed to farm Rank and Glory encourages bad, even wrong, gameplay. How many times has a team mate skipped resurrecting you because he was too busy capping a node a few feet from you? How many times have you joined a match through hot join, and after the game begins all 5-8 from the same team sit and wait at the first node and wait until it is capped. Moving on would be rational and useful for your team, but it provides no Glory. Hot-join is supposed to be the learning grounds for tournament play. How does playing hot join prepare you for tournament play, when points are given for wrong actions? The kind of system that is heavily based on mindless farming attracts copious amounts of botters. This may not be a current problem in GW2, but other popular MMOs are warning examples of this.

3) There is little to no incentives on actually winning a hot-join match. Why sweat and improve when you can do just as good glory and rank wise testing bad builds and running around headlessly?

4) By having personal and visible rating I would have something to show of my hard work and efforts. A rating and a matchmaking system would also make finding similar players more easy. Right now the map chat in the Heart of the Mists is littered with wanted ads of players with this and that rank, which often tells absolutely nothing of the player’s capabilities. Right now it is really the only way to differentiate “good” players from the “bad” and it is obvious this simply doesn’t work good. I have been declined many times when trying to get into a spontaneous tournament group because of my low rank. To me this seems a little silly that the only way to show off your skill is to sink in more hours into the game.

Camera Smoothing

I have a problem with Guild Wars 2, and I think it might fit under this topic. I really don’t want to start a new thread for this so it doesn’t make unnecessary waves in case it’s completely unrelated.

I took like a two week break from Guild Wars, and now when I started playing again (like a week ago) my head constantly hurts. Or it’s not really a headache but I just feel nauseous after playing GW for a few hours. Did ArenaNET change something in the camera or adjust something? Is anyone else feeling this? I did have to download some files before being able to play.

The first few days after GW2 launched a played more than I care to admit and I didn’t feel anything like this. Can anyone help me with this?

Report AFK (for SPvP) and 5v5 brackets

in Suggestions

Posted by: Oniverse.5146

Oniverse.5146

I am strongly on board with the smaller brackets for sPvP for the next reasons:
1) The tournaments are always played in teams of 5 players. Why adjust your playstyle to 8v8 games, when all the “real” games are played in smaller teams? Current sPvP matches and tournament matches are completely different from specs to traits and team dynamics. Practicing in 8v8 feels almost pointless when the dynamics are so different from tournament games.
2) 8v8, as Jerzor said, is way too zergy. Some professions are hit by this harder than others. Because of this you’re often forced to use amulets, runes, weapons and utility skills that give you more survivability, which alienates you even more from the 5v5 “correct” mechanics of the sPvP (check point 1).
3) 8v8 is very offputting for newer players. The combat situations often tend to be 1v2 or even 2v3 and there’s combat behind every corner. This is rarer, of course, when there are less people on the map. In 8v8 games is very hard to actually make sense of what’s really going on in the battlefield and also your actions don’t seem as rewarding. It is hard to see the difference you are making playing in these huge match ups and this really ruins the motivation to play.
4) Some maps don’t support 16 players that well. For instance the trebuchet in Kyhlo can easily get very irritating, when 1 player only spams it and two more defend it. This issue too wouldn’t get out of hand in 5v5 tourny-like play.
5) The community has already adapted “roles” in their tournament teams. Roles such as roamer, bunkerer and suicide node assaulter come to mind. For instance defending a node in tournament play is absolutely essential and meaningful, because you are almost never attacked by more than 2 players at a time. In hot join sPvP defending is less meaningful because it doesn’t matter if you defend or not; the 4-5 player zerg is eventually going to hit your node and you simply can’t defend against a mass like that.
People know this and the masses start to whirl around and around the map just capping the nodes on a pointless zerg fest.

Also implementing some sort of rated solo que for 5v5 sPvP would be amazing. People would actually play to get better and not just fool around pointlessly. What I’ve noticed from the current hot join games is, that the players don’t really even care bout the nodes, since there is nothing to lose.
This very morning I read a blog post about ArenaNET wanting to make GW2 a noteworthy e-sports game (don’t hate me for using the term – I don’t like it either :-)).
How is this going to happen, if a huge part of the pvp community isn’t even participating in the same PvP format than the more competitive one? For instance a game of DotA is always a game of DotA for casual players and pro players alike, and every DotA player can spectate world class teams fighting each other and relate, enjoy and get excited about the match. In the case that spectator mode is implemented: Why would a casual 8v8 hotjoin player care about a finale tournament match taking place, when he doesn’t have the option to play the game mode himself? Feels a little silly to me.

Long post. And it’s very, very late. Sorry for the typos and inconsistencies.

Hey,

It would be nice to have more than 3 options to limit the amount of frames per second.

If I choose the unlimited option my computer overheats and the fans of the GPU spin way too fast. The 60 fps limit is also a little extreme for my setup. The 30 fps limit is a little low, and makes the gaming experience not so smooth.

Somewhere around 45 would be ideal.
