Ranger pet's F2 perma-chill

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Panncakez.1290

Panncakez.1290

The pet sometimes gets perma-chill on his F2, althou without visible “Chilled” condition. Happens in WvW, this time after the fight with ranger and necromancer, both pets got chilled in combat I suppose, and now both have the cooldown recharge slowed.

The only way to “remove” it, is to leave/re-enter the borderland.

Don’t own a HoT myself, nobody in-game can give a clear answer, gw2skills often misses cooldowns on trait descriptions, thus – here I am with my questions.

1. How long does it aprox do gain full “celestial bar” with damaging charging only?
2. Can you exit “Celestial form” prematurely?
3. Does “Druidic Clarity” has a cooldown?
4. Does “Celestial Shadow” has a cooldown?
5. Does “Natural Stride” works both inside and outside the combat?

We can try to compare GW2 to first person shooters (FPS), which do not have weapon swap cooldowns. Disclaimer – whether or not GW2 should be modeled after some FPS elements is up for debate, but for this argument, we will assume that it should be.

Even in FPS, there is cost to weapon swapping, even if it’s not a cooldown. That cost is essentially a short ‘cast time’. While you’re swapping weapons, there is a brief period of time during which you cannot shoot or reload as your character is performing the weapon swap animation. I think it would be cool to remove weapon swap cooldown in GW2, but weapon swapping would still need to have a cost of some sort. I think the best way to do this would be to add a short cast time to weapon swapping (e.g. 1/4 or 1/2 sec). Of course, as others have pointed out, ‘on swap’ sigils would still need to retain their cooldowns. The warrior trait ‘Fast Hands’, for example, could reduce weapon swap cast time (e.g. from 1/2 to 1/4 second).

There, an amazing idea! There could also be a visual representation of the charachter’s swap weapons that are sheathed on his back/belt, akin to what we have now outside the combat.

- Having cds on weapon swaping seperates skills from weapon set A via timer from Skills from weapon set B

This is my point exactly, the whole purpose of swap cd is to block you from your alternate weaponset, even thou weapon skills have a cooldowns of their own, so in my opinion such system is awfully clunky and promotes nothing more than forced camping of weaponsets and virtually increasing the alternate set skills cooldowns by blocking access to it.

Combat options and diversity. Weapon cooldowns give more meaning and significance to swaping weapon sets. They also allow for:

- effects on weapon swap from traits
- sigil effects on weapon swap
- warrior mastery being able to skill into weapon swap cooldown

All of which add layers of decision and skill to the combat system.

All of the things you mention have nothing to do with the 10s cooldown on weapon swap button, almost every weapon swap trait and sigil has a cooldown of it’s own, recently warriors got 4s icd on Versatile Power, rangers have 9s cooldowns on both Tail Wind and Furious Grip traits. We could’ve easily have a sigil timer implemented, something like their icons with numbers until it’s ready again.
The only thing left afaik is the elementalists attunements procs like sunspot, wich could just get 7.5s cooldown to it, and criticals would instead reset the Lighning Bolt icd.

Panncakez.1290

So after playing a long time on my ranger, guradian and a thief, I have tried myself a warrior (with fast hands trait) and was amazed how “right” it felt during combat. But my amazement was even bigger when I tried kits on engineer – it just feels so kitten fluid being unrestricted, and now going back to my other characters – I’m feeling crippled by the cooldown on weapon swap, thus the name of the topic.

The only “overpowered” thing I see without weapon swap on EVERY class in the game, is the skill “2” on weapons, wich most of the time has a very short cooldown – thus all such skills could be ramped up to 8-10s cooldown with appropriate buff in it’s effectiveness.

So how do you guys feel about it, any thoughts/responses are welcome.

P.S. I don’t know if such topic was brough up already, sorry in advance.

I mean – more access to condi cleanse, short cd block AND a stunbreaker, reliable weakness access, even MORE cc with new elite (idk how reliable it is). Daredevil just seems a better choice rather than an alternative to what we currently have.

You’ll get enough Hero Points by the level 80 to unlock everything. Try using the gear that has POWER stat on it (Strong/Berserker’s prefixes), get yourself a greatsword – it’s good for leveling, take any trait line for your liking – you’ll have enough time to learn pros of every of them LATER. Most damaging pets in pve scenario are cats and birds, canines are pvp oriented, bears/drakes are tanky – quite good for soloing stuff.

Panncakez.1290

So I’ve been thinking about “new” Beastmastery traits, and how it’s almost a must-have in PvE (imo) and is represented as an enhancement of class mechanics, aka our pet. Now this particular trait caugh my attention of how much potential it COULD have. My thought is – changing the trait’s grade to Grandmaster (instead of Honed Axes for example), and making PET’S critical strikes grant might to 5 nearby allies.
Before you go “Durrrr, that’s just a dumbed-down version of PS warrior!”, yes, I know it’s the same (but less effective due to precision pets having no cleave), but then again – in current state pet brings nothing but personal dps to the party, ofcourse you can bring in some for soft cc but there’s so many faster and more reliable ways to achieve those. Such change would tone down the un-welcome-ness of the rangers in pve parties and add some party-contribution to the profession, except 7% crit and temporarily 10% damage buff. It also wouldn’t make too much noise in pvp/wvw, since pet almost never hits a moving target.

So, what I imagine when I look at this GM trait, is a dev sitting in a room, thinking of how to make a ranger benefit more towards his party, and thinks – “…what if… that one spirit that is worth taking to dungeons… will be able to apply might to the party, therefore granting 33% uptime of 1 might stack…”, and then he actually implements it.

I mean come on, it could’ve reduced the recharge on spirits, it could’ve add an appropriate combo-field to each spirit’s suicide, but no – 1s boons each 3s is the way to go.

But from my experience – I’m VERY squishy, and when chained into a cc-bursts like guardians JI with traited VOJ for root, I go down in mere seconds (must be reaction problems :P ).

Now for the questions – what d/x power-based builds are “viable” and what rune sets are more suitable for glasscannon-ing/dueling/zerging?

So, now and after the patch EB is going to stay a GM trait, from the messages I’ve read it’s there for the non-survival builds such as trappers. But what if the mechanics get tinkered a bit, to 1 condition each 5s for example? Since the condition doesn’t just vanish away but transferes to your pet, I think that would made a good Master in BM. I know it’s really silly to make comparisons to other professions, but warrior do get the Brawler’s Recovery (1 condi cleansed on weapon swap) shifted to Master tier, with no drawbacks to the trait’s functionality.

So, what do you guys think? Would that be “too much” for the ranger’s condi clearing abilities?

For the love of… how can you NOT be fast enough to interrupt a 2.5s cast? You can also use any type of blink abilities and go behind the ranger to interrupt “break” RF cast. If you dodge AFTER receiving 2-3 shot of RF, you’ll mitigate the rest of the damage.

The only part where RF is dangerous, is when ranger gets you with your “pants down” or in the open area where LoS is unavailabe.

Since noone actually answered my question, I’ll assume there’s nothing related coming for guard.

Althou necro/engi and mesmer have/will get a movespeed, note that they are mostly mid-ranged combat classes, whereas guardian is a melee-focused class, with 1 trash ranged weapon (and a bow incoming), it’s just frustrating to be the only melee w/o a base speedup. A class shouldn’t be bound to 2 runesets to be comfortable in fights.

Ranger is fine, for me – it’s the most comfort-zoned class with insane range on traited longbow. True what is said above, in dungeons people rarely accept rangers (that’s because 90% of ranger-players are simply bad.) In zergs you’ll basically stick to your longbow, perhaps you’ll like the axe, in mainhand, to tag enemies for bags. ;D

As for the build you’ve link, that’s the “glass” one, with defense mechanism being your own reaction time and knowledge of other classes. Pve and pvp needs to get used to as ranger, if you atleast want to survive the encounters.

As for weapons Greatsword / Sword + anything basically, is the best for leveling due to mobility and damage output, for the gear, as your level progresses, go for – Mighty < Strong < Berserker’s armor pieces/accessories and weapons (current meta for pve, kinda).

If you’ve just started the game, I’d suggest you postpond any crafting professions, since it takes lots of gold/grind to get mats required for it.

keeping the pet alive

I agree, it’s a requirement to be a decent ranger, but then again, pet commands are delayed, it cannot dodge, and most pvp pets have 15k hp. With that said, if you FOR EXAMPLE, try to res a fallen teammate from being stomped by utilizing wolf’s howl, it has a very high chance of getting cleaved in seconds, before even executing the command. Thing is, you don’t have a choice of reviving pet anymore, so either get out of combat (wich is ridiculous in spvp) or switch to your next pet (F2 of wich you may not even need at the moment) and receive a 1m cooldown. I think I could make more examples, but there’s always people that claim “pets are flawless, l2p,” so I won’t be trying to prove anything.

P.S. Funny thing is, that when we are downed, the PET can actually revive us, but not vice-versa, no.
