I’m playing GW2 for half a year now and want to bring my friend into the game, but in the location I live in, a brand-new copy of the game is horribly over-priced due to currency convertion. So I’ve been looking for used-accounts on Ebay, and was trying to find some other resource for my searches, but now it comes to my mind – what is Anet’s policy on such actions? Are such things forbidden/bannable?
MY GOD. I’ve just read the notes on guard. THE HYPE.
Agreed on hp-pool, and absolute lack of damaging conditions/cc’s. But if we’re talking raw-pve dps, guard is fine there, lots of crits and team support.
So, based off the replies here – reasons behind guard’s low hp, is because we grant healing and aegis/prot. boons?
That’s one’s POV matter anyways, as for me – 11k hp doesn’t match the calling of “Guardian”, a “Cleric” would fit more, and all the talk of “damage mitigation” is really situational (we don’t even have frigging WATER fields). With lots of ground-targeted/unblockable abilities your “shelter” can be interrupted (leaving you with NO HEAL and full 30s cd), the amout of posion acces will diminish VoR to nothing, and 1 block each 40s (1 team-block each 90s) will never be equal to another 5-6k base hp (for me atleast).
What are you guys even on about?
Leave the person be, you pvp junkies. xD
Try out every weapon available, but I’d recommend Axe/axe or Greatsword + Rifle or Longbow, quite comfortable for pve. Also, buy a “Minor Sigil of Bloodlust and Minor Sigil of Fire” for your weapons, they will help with killing stuff more easily.
There’s like, one in a million chances of connceting Banish with elementalist. xD
And they’ll probably just walk out of your ring with stability or port out.
So, the topic, in pve and wvw it’s 429 and in pvp it’s 279 heal per roll. What’s the point of it? :|
I think as a new player, he would be better off with larger hp pool from 5 into honor, with Writ of Exaltion and Two-Handed mastery. I think it’ll be easier to utilize, althous somewhat lacking condi clear. Ontop of that, I’d suggest replacing Focused Mind with Retributive armor or Purity, since it somewhat tricky to utilize effectively.

Well that’s a wierd question. I’d say both are good, althou both sit at lowest hp pool in the game, so soloing would be somewhat problematic at starting levels (with no traits). Lately, all the dungeon groups crave for elementalist AND guardians both. Regarding middle-range combat, guardian’s got a scepter, and it is pretty decent in pve, and will soon receive a longbow. I suggest you flip a coin, because it’s not really something you can take another person’s word on, since it comes to personal preference on lots of aspects. But if it helps you – guardian is easier to learn but very slow for a melee class.
Aside from all I’ve said, you can enter Heart of the Mists (PVP), and you’ll become lvl 80 in that zone, allowing you to test all weapon skills and traits. (WARNING: Might ruin the fun of discovering new stuff during leveling.

Hello! I’ve been running my medi-guard for quite some time, varying traits and all, but now I’ve grown tired of , along with it’s traveler’s runes. After digging through some shout-based builds, I’ve “made” one for my own comfort zone, that being a long swiftness uptime.
So what I wanted to aks, have anyone tried such or a similair build, does it performs well in duels/small roaming groups?
The gear I’ve chosen is the one that I currently have access to, but feel free to advice something else anyways!
Hello fellow guardians! As much suggestions as there are on the forums, I’ve decided to share some of my ideas (both mine own and influenced by others), concerning Guardian’s weaponry and it’s functionality.
Before reading: I do NOT imply that ALL of the suggested skills are horrible/impractical/useless in their current state.
Greatsword :
Whirling Wrath: Great skill overall, but due to guardians being unable to be mobile without a swiftness or traveler’s runes, I think it needs either a radius increase of ~100 or a removal of movespeed decreasing effect that is triggered during cast-time.
Leap of Faith: As the slowest melee class in the game, this one should be at 12s cd base.
Binding Blade: Being the only viable CC (imo), it has a ridiculously long cooldown – wich should be decreased to 25s.
Pull: Cast-time should be decreased, landing BB takes some patience already.
Hammer:
Symbol of Protection: While being a great support skill, the wind-up and cast time of it is really long, and basically feels wierd while placing it during movement. Could’ve been replaced with a simple 0.5s strike that grants allies 1,5s worth of protection.
Zealot’s Embace: A good skill, but almost unreliable on 500+ distances, would be fantastic if it had a homing mechanic.
Banish: A great way to get cappers out of your point, but has a long cast-time and cooldown, 20s base would be great.
Sword:
Sword Wave: Yeeeeeah, everyone can agree that projectile mechanics should be removed from this one.
Flashing Blade: Sometimes fails to reach moving targets, due to aftercast animations.
Zealot’s Defense: Horrible accuracy on projectiles past melee range, should get more velocity on those.
Scepter:
Orb of Wrath: Probably the worst range AA ever, should be reworked completely into a ray-like ability (akin to mesmers greatsword AA), or added velocity and tracking to current projectiles.
Smite: Stands as a great pve skill, but not all that great when comes to pvp. COULD be reworked into a delayed aoe explosion (with 3 targets max) and a small tick of burning for the sake of condi builds. Something like Karthus’s ability from LoL.
Mace:
Well… I don’t really know what to type here, last time I’ve used it was in the training area, feel free to propose something in comments, I guess. :|
Shield:
Shield of Judgement: Noone’s favourite skill, 3s of protection with 25s cooldown, should either have 15s cooldown or a cone-aimed knockback with 20s cooldown.
Shield of Absorption: Probably the only reason of even picking a shield up as a Guardian, but it’s an ABSORPTION mechanic, leaves you without already poor movement. By most comments I’ve seen, it should be reworked into “Fiery Block” that ascalonian ghosts have – immobile blocking stance that burns attackers on each block.
Focus:
Shield of Wrath: A great ability for 1v1 and a pve blast finisher, but from my experience it breaks too fast in anything that includes more than 4 people. The explosion part is tricky to trigger in pvp, especially if you’re not a medi-builded. Overall, it feels like explosion should occur on shield-break and cooldown lowered to 30s.
Allrighty, that does it I suppose. Leave your thoughts in comments if you wish.
Oh yes, D/D eles (brained ones alteast) are hard to beat. I’ve tried this build myself, how furious I was when a thief just swapped to SB and started 1 and 3 spam. Problem is that guardian is the only melee-based class with no access to movespeed buff, it’s just irritating when target simply walks out of your melee range, and your only options are either scepter, or two gap closers on 10 and 15s cooldown. And by the way, ascended gear grants minimal changes compared to exotic. It’s more of a personal goal to craft ascended set, than an advantage in wvw.
Hello! I’m playing GW2 for ~ half a year, at the moment maining a Guardian. Class is fine and all, but not flawless – telegraph hammer, very situational mace, sword aa3 and 3rd ability, and covered in webs shield that only 1% of guardians use. Not to mention that guardian sits in the lowest hp pool tier in the game, completely (imo) going against it’s name and logic of being a HEAVY armor class, and yeah, general pvp issues – movement troubles and lack of cc.
Please, don’t point at something you might not agree on in my text, but it’s just my opinion on those things. Now the reason of why I wrote all that, is because I wanted to ask “old” players – were there ever a grand changes to entire class mechanics and weapons? Will I ever get a change to happily swing my hammer around as a weapon, instead of a symbol dispenser?
So I’m kinda guessing wich sigils for a Greatsword would be MOST versatile in both pve and wvw scenario. So, looking forward to your advices guys!
Hello! Wanted to ask a question – will people with standart game copies (and without purchased HoT expansion) have access to specializations?
I know it’s very unlikely, but a fact statement would be nice (with a link pref.)
I dream for a trait with 25% movespeed, so I can replace traveler’s runes, and Whirling Wrath not slowing down your already miserable speed.
Hello! As a guardian main I sometimes struggle to utilize hammer in pvp, and my next question is to people who main other professions :
– When you fight a guardian that uses a hammer, on a scale from 1 to telegraph post, how visible are their actions?
Hello! Nothing grand happened in general, stability is now morphed into a stacking buff, where one cc removes one stack of stability. Thus, RaO is now ticking 3 stacks of stability each 3 seconds (for 20s duration) along with fury and swiftness. And after the last patch they’ve also screwed up the pet, it now doesn’t listen to you at all, and will attack anything you attack (even in passive mode, yes.)
Is there any point of using a shield over focus? I mean, you can’t even block with it properly…
I usually switch to axe when target is rooted for Splitblade, sometimes sharp. stone + splitblade. Troll unguent used as sustain, at around 50%-60% hp (atleast I do so). Sharpening Stone is better used after the enemy clears conditions.
I’ve posted the build for you to make your own base upon, I personally run dog/wolf pets – both great for flanking an opponent for bleed application.
As fun pew pew ranger is, it’s quite hard not to get killed in pvp. I would recommend to try out condi builds with Entagle in teamfights (some usefulness, eh?).
Here’s one I’m using, quite fun once you get the hand of it:

Here to ask you sneaky kittens a question. As a guardian, when facing a thief, I know that blocking a backstab doesn’t reveal the thief (because reasons), does the same thing applies if target is dodging/immune or thief him/herself blinded?
I would add a Whirling Whirling Wrath (althou it’s a weapon skill) to the list, with it’s movement speed reduction effect. Makes it almost impossible to land on a moving target with it’s miserable radius.
So, I’ve seen alot of videos where a guardian would use Judge’s Intervention on spvp maps, to teleport through the walls, to the target ont of the hill etc, etc. Once I even randomly managed to telepot out of Clock Tower in Battle of Kyhlo, to the lower level in the yard. But yet sometimes, skill just throws you against the wall, wasting a cooldown, thus leaving me guessing – how to use the Intervention to achieve an actual teleport mechanics, and would it work in PvE/WvW scenario?
The most problematic part of fighting a thief, is the amount of interrupts they can output via pistol offhand and the mobility for such a bursty class, granting free engages/disengages.
Yeah, perma-stow would be a valid option… Quite sad imo, guess I’ll just wait for next pvpv update, perhaps something will change.
Hello! Wanted to ask – is there a point? I see alot of cool ideas from people – but it just seem like a waste of breath. Was a single idea promoted by a player was invented into the game mechanics?
Strangely, thread still got no “ranger from launch” players, claiming that pet mechanic is flawless.
Just set it on passive, and it will not engage in any combat activities, unless commanded to.
I know hammer works in pvp scenario, but what about dungeons/fractals runs? It’s aa symbol is somewhat useful, but except of that – is it viable in pve?
And what If one doesn’t buy it? He’s completely restricted from the content of HoT?
Does this expansion going to be like the game itself, b2p? Or is it going to be available for gems like some of pre-HoT chapters. I kinda missed all that info.
Hello everyone! Came here with a question – I’m planning on switching servers in nearest time, and my choices are – Fissure of Woe, Vabbi, Ruins of Surmia and Gunnar’s Hold, since those server got np [FR/DE/SP] near their names – does that means I’ll be meeting mostly english speaking players? If so – wich of the servers I’ve named you’d recommend to play on?
Got a question about the source of the information that has been posted around the forum. It’s said that there was some video? Also, when this patch will be out?
