I’m not sure what those screen-shots are supposed to show, other than you are attacking the target. I see that you got one normal hit and one crit in the first shot.. and a normal hit, a crit, and some burn damage in the second. How does this prove anything?
The text someone added on the wiki is hardly proof that nothing has changed in recent patches. The majority of the Engineer traits don’t function anywhere near what the descriptions say, and that’s just the start of the issues.
When attacking the target with low health I never received any health from the Sigil, unless the health doesn’t show up on your health bar either?
Others on the GW2 Reddit community have also tested and backed my findings. Even if that bug mentioned on the wiki was true at one point, something along the line must have changed, as it no longer works at all.
I had questions about the Superior Sigil of Blood that were not answered on the Wiki page so I did some extensive testing in both the PvP Lobby and out in PvE.
*
It didn’t matter if I was at full health, fifty percent, or almost dead, the Superior Sigil of Blood NEVER activated even once.
I kept a close watch on the Combat log, looking at each line of damage and each bit of healing received, and not once did the Superior Sigil of Blood do anything.
I had better than a 60% chance to Crit as well, so it was easy to look over all the critical hits that happened constantly over the several minutes in each location that I recorded and reviewed (then had my friend look over to make sure I wasn’t missing anything) and nothing. :(
I’m not completely familiar with the thief class, but from what i’ve seen, what’s stolen is based off it’s race and/or class (moas can drop eggs/feathers, for example)
since you’re in the area with bandits, there may be a bandit in there with a “ranger” tag assigned to it, and therefore dropped it when stolen
Well, as someone who ran the Boss Blitz (where the screen-shot was from and the instance in question happened) dozens and dozens of times with a Thief, I never got a seed off of anyone in there, even the guys with the bows who stay at range and attacked with arrows.
* The wiki suggests that the seed can be stolen Only in PvP http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Steal/Creature
Sadly they didn’t implement all the options for the UI that GW1 had. It was amazing, being able to move everything around separately and resize it as you liked. Kind of like Rift’s UI.
Then again, GW2 doesn’t even have a fully completed Auction House. They never put in the ability to search for back-slot items (unless you know the names) nor the non-food like consumables (that can be used at the same time as a food buff) such as Crystals, Oils, and Stones. Heck, you can’t even search the armor by types (light, heavy, medium) and that’s basic in every game.
You’ll find that GW2 is lacking in a lot of ways, especially customization, but despite it’s failings there is still fun to be had in the game. I have five 80s, so apparently despite the frustrations I’ve managed to spend a lot of time playing so far. lol
That tree is a thief steal skill, when stealing off of a ranger. You can’t use consumable weapons in WvW. (which is where I’m assuming you saw it)
No, as the screen shot showed, it was during Boss Blitz.
Okay then, sorry “slamb” I guess you were partially right after all. In this instance, in PvE, it had to have been the consumable item, but if it had been in PvP then apparently you’d have been correct.
Learn something new every day. Thanks everyone.
can confirm, thieves steal my tree all the time
also I’ve used that consumable when playing around with friends, so yes, it could be either/both
So in PvP another player can take it from a Ranger? This was PvE, as the screen-shot clearly shows, and as a PvE Thief I’ve never gotten it as a steal item, so yea if it’s a PvP thing I’d have no idea.
Sorry “slamb” you were incorrect.
Thanks “Starxes”, I was able to confirm this. You are correct. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6veLzqiH0g
A thief can drop this after stealing from a ranger.
I have a level 80 thief and I steal all the time. I’ve never seen this item before when stealing. This guy was practically spamming it. Very odd.
I think it is the healing seed pod you can buy from Denton the Durable…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Seed_Pod
That makes more sense. I’d never seen it before or after and if it’s a purchased consumable that could be why.
If anyone can confirm this… ?
I too quit playing a few months after release and didn’t come back again until recently.
I can’t say it was a good decision, but the game has given me something to do while waiting for the release of the next new MMO to try (I’ve played sooo many).
As for the dungeons, I can’t say too much. I’m in a guild of 2, myself included, have been since launch. We play together most of the time, and we have been able to 2-man several of the dungeons without many wipes or downs. I think we work together better than most and do so from the same room, but if we’ve managed with two then an actual full group with some of the people have at least a little skill, should do alright. I have never played with anyone else but my single friend/guild mate on the team, so I’m at a loss for personal experience to pull from.
…no idea why the image code did not work to show the image.
Okay, so I’ve started playing in Beta and though I took a year off have been playing again in recent months. I have 8 characters, one of each class, and 5 of them are level 80s. I thought I knew the skills and abilities of all the classes pretty well, then this happened a week or two ago.

Some player, could not tell who, kept dropping this tree in the middle of the battle field over and over again, it was actually rather annoying because it blocked so much of the screen, but I’ve NEVER seen any other player use the skill before or after and I don’t recall ever seeing it when playing ANY of the classes.
Did I completely overlook a skill along the way? A skill so bad that NOBODY ever uses it ever in play, except this guy this one time, or what?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I see. That’s rather… sorry, can’t think of a nice way to say it. What was the point? Most crafting professions are quite expensive to level, it’s not like new players were leveling too fast using the crafting (unless they were buying gold from the in-game store).
Would I be wrong to assume that the experience gains from other sources were nerfed within the past week or two? I ask because when I first started back I made a new character and leveled it to 80 without too much hassle then leveled a second older character up as well, but now this current character I’m trying to level this past week has been doing all the same things I did with the others but it just feels like the grind is ten times worse than it was before and I’m getting no where levelwise.
I started playing GW2 again about a month ago after over a year of absence. Much has changed and much has been forgotten from the first time I played as I’ve played many other MMOs since. Anyway, I’m giving it a second chance and I had a question about crafting.
I’ve only leveled one crafting profession from 0 to 400 since I returned and I got about seven character levels while doing so (58 to 65). I was about to undertake leveling a second profession to 400 and was trying to do some research about it before I began as I didn’t know if it was more productive to level it on a lower level character or a higher one.
So far my attempts to search for such data has left me a little confused. I see in countless places data stating that you will ALWAYS get at least 10 character levels from leveling a profession from 0 to 400, no mater what level your character is. This was anything but the case when I did so last week so I was confused.
Admittedly the newest place I read such data was over 9 months old, so I thought it best to ask here since I’m not aware if the crafting EXP was nerfed since then of if by using Crafting Boosters while leveling the first profession up I somehow shorted myself in character exp.
Any help would be appreciated.
I think it says a lot that the OP was infracted for even making the original post.
You should never see “(User was infracted for this post.)” on a calm, well written post where someone shares their opinions about a game. :(
I believe it is. Sure there are some problems that have bothered me since Beta but for some reason about 5 days ago I just lost the motivation to signin and play. I haven’t been back in the game since and I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t think I can point to any one thing, I guess it’s just everything lumped together being too much. :(
I’m starting to wonder myself if the reputation for “sweeping things under the rug” that GW1 had is carrying over to GW2 as well. :(
Guardian 43 – 2/10
also
Warrior 37
Thief 30
Ranger 24
Elementalist 16
Same overall though on the game, 2/10
I did make and level the Necromancer, Mesmer, and Engineer to level 15-18 as well, but deleted them after for space and because I could not enjoy those classes at all.
I fully agree with the OP. You cannot have a game that requires grind and then punish people for grinding, yet this is what they are currently doing.
If you opt to not group up with others to do dungeons and PvP then you are left doing the same PvE events in a zone dozens of times in order to level to the next zone, but yet this is severely hindered by the hidden codes that kill your drops and such if you spend too much time in one zone.
As the OP said, it would be nice to get a clearer picture of how they do expect us to play the game. It’s as currently as confusing as Gale Gray’s statements of “The game was made to be played, not AFKed” concerning GW1, just prior to the implementation of even more holiday events/games that required you to set around AFK.
Please, PLEASE take a note from Trion. You must be honest and forthcoming about how you are changing the game.

I think the obvious brown-nosing posts to try and counter balance the negative posts are even more pathetic that any of the so called “whining” threads.
Why can’t people understand that it’s possible to both love and be critical of something.. because you want the flaws corrected so that it can actually be the best it can be. Blindly praising and divulging your undying love for GW2 and ignoring any issues is bad, because others who aren’t already bias are going to notice the imperfections and be less likely to have as high of an opinion of it as you do.
I think GW2 is a great game, it’s a lot of fun and I hope to play it for a long time to come, but there ARE issues with the game, bugs, over-sites, and things that maybe could have been thought out a little better.. but if people don’t voice themselves then the game cannot improve.
They already know they have an amazing game, what they Need to hear is how to make it better.
I would love this. Or at least institute a captcha when you try to mail somebody who doesn’t have you friended.
Also a good idea.
Have you tried reporting them or blocking?
I report them each and every time, even when it’s the same one day after day, and I have blocked some of them but there seems to be an unending supply and stopping to block each one is just more work when trying to play than just deleting them (see OP).
I know a lot of people are getting annoyed with the gold spammers, and while I don’t know that anything can be done about them in Chat, I was wondering about an idea for the Mail.
.
What about a “Receive Mail from Friends Only” option we could turn on, so that only people on our friends list can mail us?
.
There are times when, for hours, every five minutes I have a new gold seller message in my inbox, and with how limited the inbox size is, it gets really frustrating trying to rush to delete them all so that I can actually receive messages from my friends and guild mates.
What do you guys think? Could this be a viable fix (of sorts) for all the gold seller mail spam?
I think it’s ridiculous for them to punish people for taking their time exploring a zone and enjoying the scenery, being social, or hanging around difficult skill caps to help others out.. because if you play causally instead of speeding through zone after zone you’ll be punished for it. That’s the basic gist of this farming code isn’t it? To reinforce that casual, social, or recreational play isn’t tolerated in GW2 and that if you want to try and acquire mats for crafting you’re twice dam*ed?
I know GW1 had some pretty crazy farming codes that they denied for a long time in the face or player proof to the contrary.. before they finally admitted to it. I’m glad to see GW2 not trying to lie about the existence of such farming codes but I still find them ludicrous.
Perhaps they could install a big countdown clock in the center of the screen to let us know when to flee a zone before we got locked out of loot and such?
So basically in GW2 you will be penalized for casual, social, or exploitative play (unless you’re going to do short stints in each zone to avoid a lockout) ?
A few hours ago my guild mates and I stopped gaining any Guild Influence for the guild, despite the fact we are all still playing, representing, and doing event after event in various areas.
Also, we purchased an upgrade 3 hours ago, and it was in the building queue, but now it’s no longer listed in the queue and it’s available for purchase again, despite there being record in the history that we bought it.
Help?

You do realize that #000000 would just be plain ugly and not verisimilar at all?
Yes, but anything else isn’t really Black. If you want black, it should be black, but I’d personally rather see some actual Dark shades of gray made available, as even the darkest ones available are really quite light. Take a screenshot of a dye, such as Graphite or Pitch, which have a nice gray color, then go in and play with the brightness and contrast and you can clearly see that much darker colors could be made available and still look really nice.
At least we now know why humans are killing all those centaurs.
Mmmmm. Delicious buttery centaurs.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I killed that last one because he spawned on top of me while I was gathering copper ore and yelled, “I promise a painful end!”
Then I took his butter. Silly centaur.
;)
O.o Okay, BAD mental images..
Centar. On Top Of You. Butter. Painful End.
…
There are several shades of black and white dye in the game, including “pure” black and “pure” white.
Can you give us some hint as to what they are called, as no “Pure Black” or “Pure White” dyes seem to exist on the Trading Post.. and I’m pretty sure I have scrolled through pages upon pages of all the Dyes many times. Thanks.
Exactly! If you just mouse over the little color swatch samples on that page you can clearly see that there is No Black Dye, just a slightly darker shade of gray. The color code would display as 000000 if it was actually black.
It’s really sad that even Abyss Dye isn’t Black, but it’s closer. So many of the colors have names that seemingly have no connection to the color you see when you preview them. I don’t know how there were so many mistakes with the color system, but you can’t even make a Human character without seeing tons of errors with the colors, specifically in the hair colors. Light Pink is gray, White is a dark yellow.. and that’s jut for starters. lol
Greater Key-bind Options but Specifically the addition of the option to Key-bind the “Loot” and “Interact” keys separably.
So many of us have dealt with endless frustration when trying to loot near NPCs, and supposed recent changes to the priority system for the default “F” key.. just don’t seem to work adequately enough for many of us.
You can simply, by default, have this new option also bound to the “F” key as to not disrupt anyone’s game play who enjoys having single button for everything.. while greatly improving the enjoyment of the game for the rest of us.
I got a decent amount of support for this suggestion before the thread was closed the other day, so I’m going to post it here and hope for the best. Thanks.
Random fact: During the BWE’s, the female’s underwear changed colour as well. No idea why it doesn’t anymore.
I thought I remembered that, but since it made no sense to make such a change I thought maybe I was remembering incorrectly.
Be nice if worked on them
This single issue is preventing me from making an Elementalist character. There is a name I want for it, but it is reserved. You have to figure, we’re two weeks after release, it’s time to let others have a shot at the names.
Completely agree.
I was just trying to figure that out myself. A thread of mine was closed with instructions to see that post by Regina… yet that link does not work for me either and the only sticky thread I see is that one. o.O
I too am impatiently awaiting the release of those names. You can only link one GW1 account to your GW2 account, but I had two GW1 accounts… so some of my names on my own account are locked to me.
Rewards and drops are scaled to your level.
Wait, that makes no sense. It would incentivise players to finish zones only when they reach level 80. Wouldn’t it…?
Agreed
I’d just be happy enough if this at least got a reply and closed like most of the suggestion threads. :p
So, I guess Lornar’s Pass is broken then too?
http://i46.tinypic.com/vdpw6f.jpg
Level 40/38 greens in a level 40-50 area, when I completed it at level 52.
Yea, think they need to go do some more testing…
I think it’s getting worse. Just opened 24 bags and got 60 butter, 2 Blue Crafting materials, and 13 common crafting materials. :P
Maybe the prevalence of butter is one of those in-game hints at some future, massive event.
I just pictured a bunch of Norn women wrestling in a giant vat of butter. o.O That might be all well and good for them, but the poor Charr will never get that out of their fur. -.-
They addressed this issue in the patch a few days ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Update-Notes-September-9th-2012Interact “F” should use the following priority:
1) Your current selection
2) Loot
3) Revive/Stomp
4) Anything else
Odd, my boyfriend and I have noticed no change when playing, we still get frustrated trying to loot items that have dropped under the NPCs.
I still believe simply adding an option in the Key-binding section would be preferable.
On a side note, someone changed the topic of this thread, and it wasn’t me. o.O
Your thread title was changed by a moderator, probably for one of the following reasons (some of these reasons may not apply to your previous title):
- It used all-caps or leet-speak in whole or in part
- It was generic/non-descriptive and did not tell people what was in your thread by reading the topic
- It was inflammatory or sensationalistic
Given the issue at hand, did anything other than “Butter” need be said for people to know what issue was being discussed?
I’ll keep that in mind though, for future topics. Thanks.
To clarify, when drops are scaled to your level, there is a chance that they’ll either be level-appropriate for you or level-appropriate for the content that you’re completing. You’ll get a mix, allowing you to collect zone-appropriate crafting materials and drops while also still being able to find gear that’s appropriate for your character. In general, the chance of getting character-level appropriate gear is better the closer that the content is to your actual level. Since the difficulty of the content increases at higher levels, we want to reward high-level players more for playing through the challenging high-level content that is available more than if they play through the easier low-level content that’s designed to let players learn to play the game.
Additionally, when you get gear at a specific level, it’s not guaranteed to be gear that requires that level to equip. It’s not uncommon to fight enemies a couple levels higher than you, and it’s frustrating to get cool new drops from the enemies and not be able to equip them. Generally, the required level to use a piece of gear is a few levels below the level of the area it was acquired, so that when you get gear as loot, you’re able to equip it immediately.
Could there be some issue Specifically with the Charr starting area completion chest rewards then? It’s a level 1-15 zone, and completing it with characters who are in the intended bracket still rewards level 26 items, same as if you go back and do the zone at a much higher than intended level.
(edited by PawPrince.5719)
If the Mods didn’t like my original title I’d have opted for something more original like “Butter Butter Everywhere!” or “WTS: Butter”
So my boyfriend and I aren’t the only ones experiencing this. That’s a relief, I was starting to think we had been cursed by the Evil Butter Faerie!
On a side note, someone changed the topic of this thread, and it wasn’t me. o.O
When I completed the char starting area at level 30, I received level 26 items. But, when I competed the human starting area at level 15 I believe I received much lower level items.
Can anyone confirm this?
Actually, I’ve fully completed the Charr area now, with 3 different Charr characters, and each time I received level 26 items… regardless of being on level 13 and level 16 characters at the time. This is also true for my boyfriend who completed the event at the same time as I did with characters he made to play along with mine. The fact that you too received level 26 items from the Charr area completion tells me that …
Rewards and drops are scaled to your level.
..could either be wrong, or perhaps the Charr area is Bugged when it comes to the chest rewards.
Yes, I do, and yes I’d love such an option.
So, since the changes a few days ago to the enemy dropped loot bags, I’ve seen a little bit of an imbalance in loot % chance when opening them.
I gathered 50 bags, then opened them one after another into a clean inventory. I received 93 Butter! 19 Blue Crafting items, and 23 common crafting items. A huge difference since the change went into effect for sure.
I then gathered another 57 bags to try again, but this time I got 79 Butter, 24 Blue Crafting items, and 24 common crafting items.
Surely I’m not the only person who has a bank full of Butter and stacks of Butter in all my characters bags?
-.-
