That’s the thing about GW2, the gameplay mechanics are designed around proactive play rather than reactive. If someone is taking so much damage they need to be burst healed, they are not dodging correctly.

Also, I’m assuming that the new Minstrel stat combo would work really well. But that could just be me wanting to play a bard and having an excuse to use Minstrels and The Minstrel legendary.

Good job putting this together.

Pristine Fractal Relics

Plum Butter.4058

Arena Net will never add an option to convert Fractal Relics to their prestige counterparts. Prestige Fractal Relics drop in higher level fractals, (or now just the achievement chests or something) as an incentive to progress further.
If they added a way to convert regular to prestige, people would just farm the lower level fractals a whole bunch with ease and just convert.

Honestly I think not having the ability to convert is good for the life of Fractals, but more knowledge on what they changed with the xpac and what actually drops where needs to be more apparent.

Story Mission Back Reward(s)

Plum Butter.4058

I haven’t done the new content yet, but if the reward was specifically in an end-of-mission reward basket, then hopefully other characters you complete that story mission with will get the same reward.

If it was from an achievement for completing that story mission then, yeah, that’s the only one you’re gonna get.
I am assuming that Anet will probably add some way to trade in or purchase the reward if your account has been flagged as having that achievement, but I’m not sure.

GUILD HALLS, unobtainable

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Plum Butter.4058

Plum Butter.4058

Omg so rediculous. Guilds are for GROUPS of players. Having 1 or 2 other people that you play with is what friends lists are for, not guilds.
Guild halls are NOT a personal housing system so stop asking anet to cater to you as if it is. If you dont have enough players to take a guild hall, then you arnt a guild.

You don’t get it. We don’t want to be “catered to”. We want the arbitrary limit of “3” people minimum to not be the barrier.

The dungeon content is designed for a group of 5 people and recommended for that many, but I’m glad I’m allowed to go in and complete it with 4 people or less because of the way our small group wants to play. We see that “recommended” number and take heed.

We aren’t demanding that the Guild Puzzles or Raids be re-tooled gameplay wise to be completed with a 2 man party, or the number of kills within a 1 hour time period be lowered for the PvP Hard Guild mission so that every guild gets their shot, but we shouldn’t be prohibited from entering this content with less than the recommended amount of people to at least try.

If Arena Net wanted to scale/design their easy Guild Missions in a way that the gameplay fundamentals required a certain number of people (i.e. Guild Puzzles) that would be fine as we can understand Anet wanted something designed around that number of people.

But when the easy Guild Missions are to do a task that can be soloed with even the slightest ease, the 3 person requirement seems like a far to heavy handed transition into making the game “easy” for everyone. “Lets make sure no one goes into Guild Missions or Raids with a 2 man, they might fail and call us meanie-heads for making hard content, then quit” -Anet, probably.

Basically, if they wanted to make the guild mission something that required 3 people, they should have made it something that required 3 people.

Plum Butter.4058

The current selection of Guild Missions this week is horrible. Yeah, I get maybe they want people to do something else other than PvE which is not surprising as they have always forced player to play the way they want. (nerfing Dungeon rewards, limiting drops unless you go to another map etc.)

I just don’t understand why at least one of them wasn’t a PvE mission. This is really a problem for me as the 2 other people I have in the guild who are still willing to play are not on same server which means I cant do the WvW easy mission, nor the Medium or Hard PvP mission as the time limit is to small for a group of 3 people to complete it. Basically my group is set back because Anet is totally helping out little guilds and making sure they are respected in the new system.

Bleh, others will just accuse me of “wanting too much” from the new system.

The other point I wanted to make was that with the old guild system, I, as a single person guild could actually progress my guild without any other guild members by utilizing the community and such (if I wanted to do guild missions which weren’t actually required) but this is no longer an option since any favor gaining missions require at least 3 people and those are required for even basic guild hall progression.
I guess it’s selfish to think I could do this content solo but whatever.

After buying “Notarized Scroll of Heroics” (The 1 Hero Point from Tyria version) I can refund it for bonus “Badges of Honor”

Since I have all Hero Points unlocked in Tyria, consuming the “Notarized Scroll of Heroics” would normally refund the purchase price back. However it refunds 10 badges instead of the 5 spent on obtaining said scroll.

I’ve provided a link to images taken demonstrating this issue: http://imgur.com/a/u7tLe

As an aside, hopefully I don’t get banned for “exploiting” in the process of taking photographic evidence.

In the Mystic Forge you can put Tiny Snowflakes and Minor Rune of Snowfall and Minor Sigil of Mischief. However I couldn’t seem to figure out what the 4th item was supposed to be. (I tried a lot of the rest of the Wintersday items to no avail.)

I was hoping someone on here had had some luck and stumbled into a solution, or was willing to try with me to determine the mystery “ingredient”.

I believe that for the first Birthday, the community itself was much more interested and got itself excited for seeing what Arena Net were going to do for their one year anniversary/birthday.

And unfortunately – I’m assuming here – that most people gave up the will to care after the “lack luster” first birthday.

Also keep in mind that the Birthday aspect does not happen to everyone on August 25, so Arena Net making an event specifically for that purpose, is shunning people who made characters after.

Achievement Observations

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Plum Butter.4058

I figured that I should post some general knowledge that I experienced in might continued fight for some achievements for this patch. Keep in mind that due to bugs (being stuck in falling animation porting onto the holo platform/ not getting credit for knight battles etc.) these are just some educated observations and I have yet to get the achievements for seemingly doing the correct thing.

The searing scars from Scarlet’s lazer attacks continue to damage you after they disappear from the ground visually, give them a couple of seconds to fully disperse.

When she fires the lazers all the potential lines of attack will show up as red warning lines but she only fires them one at a time. The first one where she is facing will take a couple of seconds to charge up and then she rotates clockwise to fire with no build up on the other lines.

For the Knights, the not getting pulled achievement, it might only count if you actually get the “Evade” message on the screen. (Dodging at the apex of the knights jump/when the orange danger circle goes away) It seems that if there are too many people the pull wont even target all of them or if you are behind/in a group of many people it might not reach you to get the “Evade” message.

Guesting for LS content in EotM

I transferred servers a while after a group of my friends stopped playing GW2 to find players interested in the content I wanted to play. The reason I bring this up is because I have a friend willing to come back to try the new map but I don’t feel like telling him
“Right so I know you left the game for reasons (Temp content) but you can come back and play because it will be fun to discover a new WvW map. Oh and shell out a couple tens ($) to transfer so we can play together.”

How is guesting going to work in this regard, seeing as WvW was/still is the only content unavailable to share cross server.

It’s going away yesterday, better buy 32 of them.

How long will current Meta Achievement last?

Colin mentioned this
“Soon, you won’t need to ask “is this permanent or temporary?”, you’ll simply be able to look at story specific parts and know the story goes away when it’s done, and the playable core content remains and changes based on the outcomes of the story.” [sup]1[/sup]

Now I might be crazy but I still don’t know how long the current Living Story Meta Achievement (Tower of Nightmares) will last. Yes, I can make an educated guess but why couldn’t there be:

  • A timer on the meta achievement
  • More detailed information on the website regarding how long each element of each new LS release will last.

Problem with the Two-Week Release Schedule

in Living World

Posted by: Plum Butter.4058

Plum Butter.4058

The reason it is such a problem comes to the fact that the content is temporary. Even if they extend the time frame, some people will want it faster because they can complete it in a smaller number of days due to play time.

So to fix this problem many people have suggested that the content remain permanent, through various needs. (Like having flash-back NPC’s etc. if the story dictates something wouldn’t make sense to stay in the world.)
But then the people who want this badge of exclusivity get upset because eventually something they put time into for being there then could be gotten by a casual player. I know this seems like a selfish personality but there is some merit for working towards something that make your character unique from all the rest in a *MM*O game.

My thought on this is that there should be some reward – restricted to being title based (maybe a small icon near the name plates we all have to see now, ala Mabinogi) – for people who finish the meta during the time the event actually takes place. But all the achievements and content should be available for others down the line.

Why is it that new players picking up the game can’t experience actual story and content that had occurred before?

http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/images/3/30/Mabinogi_2012_04_13_004.png
(The circle icon was given out to people who completed the new story content during the time that the event was “active”. However, that story content was still there for me to do a year after being released with all the regular rewards and experience.)

Living Story update pacing: Alittle too fast

in Living World

Posted by: Plum Butter.4058

Plum Butter.4058

I think Arena Net overcompensated, again. See people were saying that a one month schedule was far to long for the amount of content needed, so they felt like they should speed it up. Which they did. But they also added achievements that would take longer to complete, either by grind, length or time lock (daily). Sure, someone who wants to complete all of them would need to put more time than before to complete them, others would still finish in two days (barring time lock) and yet others would feel just right.

I am not saying either of these play styles are better than others but the biggest reason not everyone is happy is because it’s all temporary anyways.

I get that people feel like they want to have this badge of exclusivity, but with this temporary content, most feel like they need to play this game on someone else’s schedule. Ala, job.

Maybe if Arena Net made titles for completing meta achievements in the time frame but still included the content and achievements for those who maybe just can’t play that month due to other reasons.

Bah, I’m rambling now. This has probably already been said elsewhere before.

Plum Butter.4058

The biggest problem here is the fact that achievements are based on pure luck. Why should some players who want to not be able to compete with others (achievement leaderboards) simply because Arena Net basically tells them no. Yes, I understand that achievements aren’t “necessary” but neither are your pvp experiences.

Imagine you couldn’t use an amulet in spvp because the dice you rolled dictated – by the game – that you couldn’t.

Oh yes, and I’m sure new players feel the same way. Obviously they are just incompetent at making enough gold to spend on Moa races while leveling up in a game they might not be too familiar with in time for the end of the event. Pocket change indeed.

unconventional fix for commander icon

in Suggestions

Posted by: Plum Butter.4058

Plum Butter.4058

Except for the fact that people will still buy it just to have it because they can. At 100 gold it requires a significant investment for a single person so more realistically it’s a goal for a group of people (most likely a guild) to promote one of its members that everyone feels could take on the responsibility of being a commander.

I’m of the opinion that anyone with the commander tag should be subject to review from people of that server with strict limitations such as to not abuse this power. Things like people who have spent the most time in a specific commanders squad could submit a review with the consequence that the commander might have his status suspended or removed with enough negative feedback.

Though this will most likely not be implemented because it will not be implemented correctly enough to work without griefers.

i would like to see more skill involved in PVE if not i think that ppl will get bored and possibly quit the game.thats just how i feel about the situation.

So let me get this straight… As the “healer” watching health bars bob up and down and pressing buttons to stop it going all the way down is more skillful than watching the actual fight and reactivly keeping people alive with buffs or small heals? And for “dps-ers” to just sit there expecting their better numbers to beat the enemie’s numbers (and if not, to have their health bar not go down by some magic fairy person across the room) instead of reacting to the environment visually and using situational skills (in GW2, all skills) to maximize effects.

GW2 combat requires all respective parties to be skillful to achieve maximum potential. Also, combat is proactive NOT reactive.

I’m no quite sure if this has already been suggested, but befor GW2 came out, during a convention demo the person showing the fight against Tequatl was playing an Asura Guardian or Warrior (can’t remember exactly) but he was wielding a Great Sword. During the first few minutes the demonstrator was showing off how funny/different the Asura wield a Greatsword compared to other classes.
My thoery is that if Arena Net could somehow exaggerate (and I mean really crazy stuff) the different animations Asura have for different abilities it might alleviat some woes.

The problem with enemy cast bars is that Arena Net wanted everything to be more reliant on the visibility of the world itself. That is why they were not in the game to start with and the UI is very minimized.
They want you to see when your party members are hurt because of the visual affects not just watching a healthbar bob up and down.
However, when you cannot see things happening by the enemy because it is just plain smaller, this visual dependency desicion seems to fall short in reasonability.

I’m not spending 10 cents on this game until some serious changes come along, and not just related to themed events.

The thief class, dungeons that are stupidly difficult, guilds moving to the “server that will win” every week, drop rates, Ascended gear as a dungeon treadmill, the lag monster at event times…

I could keep going.

The dungeons are supposed to be difficult, the lag happens because they didn’t expect so many people playing their wonderful game and are working to fix issues, and did you not read the AMA with Chris? He stated that Ascended gear was supposed to be in the game from the start as a step from exotics to Legendary. There aren’t going to be anymore tiers and Ascended is there for people who want more progression without falling into the gear treadmill.
That is also the reason why you can only get rings and back items, with the rest of the “set” being released over the next year of time.

What you are saying is that the Charzooka and flame thrower for the Claw of Jormag event are different than other Charzookas and flame throwers correct? (as in different skills for the bundles)
First off they are different weapons. The Charzooka is different than the “Experimental Pact Weapons” they offer during the event.

However I do understand your point. Why should all swords for a class have the same skills? In that reguard there are things Arena Net could do such as making two or three skills avalible for a specific slot in a weapon and you have to choose which ones you want before battle. This is a possibility in the future as much of the player base requests that Arena Net include more weapons skills.

If you were talking about actually crafting things like the Charzooka and a flame thrower then your post title is a little misleading.

I was wondering if OP understands that making a legendary is and undertaking, of which should and probably will take an exorbitant amount of time.
It is a goal you set for your self with the motivation that you are getting something amazing.
Yes, it is unfair that people use exploitive means to get thiers faster but I like to think that when I’ve played for a year (a decent amount of hours each day), setting aside what I’ve earned (supplies, money) and make the parts I need, then finaly put together my Minstrel, I will feel satisfied. Sort of a back burner project.
I understand that for most people, making a legendary is something they focus on as a project then and there, spending in game time focused on getting whatever it is they need on the massive list of ingredients.
For those people I can offer no condolenses or suggestions. I just don’t have any. And I do understand that exploitation does need to stop, but how and when is up to Arena Net to decide. (It IS thier game)

They wouldnt do that because a gold sink is still nesseccary for an in-game economy. If they make player created repair kits the money goes through-out the player base and inflation happens faster.
Another point. There would be no cost for dying. If they make the cost-to-craft rate reasonable, then you would get what you need (money to buy/materials to craft your own) while you are faffing about. If they make it really expensive then people wouldn’t buy or craft their own and instead just repair simply at an NPC for a set price.

In reguards to a statement of “realism” I have no suggestion to make. Yes, it does seem wierd that a master of armorsmithing goes to some country bumpkin to repair his intricate armor.
