It wasn’t and it wasn’t post in the Game Release Notes section. It was a stealth “fix” and I wouldn’t excuse the insta-kill as an excuse to remove reflection. This is like saying that there is no point in having reflection at all if a mob shot at you and it shot through it.
Why did you guys have to make the Breeder not effected by the Trap in AC 2? If its because of the champ box farming, then why don’t you just remove the champ box instead of making the trap gathering process more annoying? It doesn’t make sense that it would survive the trap but 41564146467464186461664 graveling dies instead.
What there an explanation as to WHY the spider boss of TA UP Malrona’s projectile doesn’t reflect with any of the guardian’s and mesmer’s wall?
I would like to throw in the fact that every time I wanted to fast travel to a said location, the megaserver just contested 99% of the map. Its freaken annoying and totally an inconvenience.
I would like to advise anyone that buying a Captain’s Airship Pass isn’t a good idea when you can’t port to LA from it.
The orders and specially the Pact were created to fight Dragons, not protect Tyria in general.
LA was an independent state with its own police/military, no one else had authority there, at best happon request other organizations could come to aid.
That didn’t stop the orders in going into LA and clearing out the Risen. I would like to point out that the Pact should have fight with Scarlet’s Army on the account that they stole their airship and the fact that they are the other largest standing army in the game. The kind of army that kills everything in their path. No point in fighting the Elder Dragon when someone is using an army to invade varies of places (like their homeland) and not just LA.

Gw1 isn’t retconned.
Yes it was. 5 days added into the calendar only show how the LS writer didn’t bother looking up the GW 1 wiki. Saying how the event in GW 1 doesn’t matter because the human gods are nothing more than glorified mages is also crap. There are reasons and there is bull pulling.
Qawsada:
There may be reasons for that, despite how you feel. Leading a campaign against a developer PERSONALLY because you dislike their work generally doesn’t garner much sympathy, even if the populace may agree with some of your points. That hasn’t gone well in other gaming communities, and isn’t likely to be well received here either.
Watching my favorite game getting horrific content and content that retcon or leave plot holes or create a mary sue character can leave me so much in terms of reasoning with them. I complain how badly the story has gone and I rather they hired a different writer than the “writer” we have now. GW 1 was build in integrity and its all torn down thanks to that hack. Of course, she is not the only one that is tearing down GW 2.

The evidence in the story states quite clearly that the captain’s council did not believe an attack was imminent. So obviously, not everyone and their dog knew. The responsibility of the defense of Lions Arch rests squarely on the shoulders of the captains council and the blew it. It is not the pact’s fault, it is the council’s fault.
And here is the kicker. Only the council didn’t believe this. Everyone else did. The council was made to fail just so Scarlet can invade regardless as to what happen. Its a shame that such poor writing was force to make the invasion “work”.

Again, an army and airships sitting in LA would be viewed badly. Especially if they aren’t going anywhere.
The realistic viewpoint is, the Pact leadership and forces directly under them wasn’t involved. The orders however, were heavily involved.
Also, it takes TIME to Mobilize armies. It’d take long to contact the various airships around all of Orr and tell them to return to base. Likewise, dragon champions such as Tequatl are still active and airships being pulled makes ground forces weak toward air strikes.
Then, when the Pact is ready to move, they have to march/fly to LA, which takes even longer. By the time the Pact was underway, the battle for LA could’ve been over.
All they have to say that its Order Business. Considering that they help chase off the undead risen, their word should be viable.
Realistically, they have enough men for the order to get involve, so it sense the Pact should join in.

A: NOBODY knew where Scarlet’s armies were. He can’t order an attack on an enemy he can’t find.
Everyone and their dogs know that she going to invade there. Evon knows, the people that know about the thumper on underwater knows, those ls characters know, and hell, we ourselves and just march right into the council and say we know. The invasion pull off because writer dictate it, not because anyone don’t know about the invasion.

A: Yeah and they got like two years. You would think by now they replenish their forces by now. Even with the undead dragon dead, thing just so happen to remain the same.
B: Its both. Whether or not they their main goal is truly the dragon, they care for Lion Arch for them to defend them against the undead risen. You would think by now that the central hub of every thing would attract the Pact from going to LA and help retake it from Scarlet. I would seriously doubt that would be the case seeing there was none of the Pact there to begin with. Even if they are there, the LA citizens would recognize that they are on their side.
C: They got two years of this and it seem that the pact are could be there with all those pact golems and what not that happen in in the Nightmare Tower update. I’m using gamewise for the cleansing part because the fact that Teq was meant to show that the undead hasn’t chance, the cleansing does crap. I wouldn’t even excuse the part where the artifact corrupt because that is all seem to only tie to the story (hell, in fact, we get to use one and sake a shrine because of it).
From the dialogue with sylvari vigil in LA, and the factor there are a whole bunch of Orders members running around, they seem to be doing all fine. The order help but the
As for why they should bother, its funny how Scarlet happens to do the most damage in the short amount of time, and that alone should grab the Pact’s attention. Hell, Scarlet tries to assassinate the queen and they made it a big deal about in the human story. The order help but they should do more, like use up all the golem, airship, and orr artifact to help.
In anyways, they should have been there to wait and see if Scarlet suppose to make her move to LA and relied on the player to get the things done right.

I’m sure the Pact would have dealt with Scarlet if they were given a chance to, and we’d see more threads about how Trahearne was a Mary Sue Glory Hog for the Pact getting involved.
The less the Pact is involved in anything other than steadily making Orr safer for all of Tyria? The better.
Oh I am quite aware how stupidly mary sue Trahearne is, but at the very least, they might as well salvage the powerhouse that is the Pact with all their airship and what not. Or at least, use the lieutenants of the Pact for the attack rather than Trahearne.

A: Yeah, because doing nothing for the past two years seem okay for the Pact to not partake in defending LA in the first place.
B: That didn’t stop them from helping the people of LA when they were being butt rump the the Risen invaders.
C: Only further proving that Trahearne’s cleansing does jack crap to Orr and/or how the Living Story isn’t so Living. You would think that in two years, they would at least clear some part by now.
Its funny how they split the Pact and Order with the story seem so “convenient” for the writer to twist their own needs. The Pact would have dealt with Scarlet long ago if they were given a chance to but alas! Everyone have to play idiot just so some Mary Sue Sylvari can invade LA.
Hey I’m not defending it. The writing did get better,
Judging by the bunch of Uh-huh or some stupid sister chatting, I would say no.
but if you think you can do a better job, apply there, or I don’t know write an angry mail to Anet demanding somebody to be fired. Either way it’s far fetched.
Most of the posters here would happily take that honor, but I doubt that is the case.
Please find a different writer for season 2.
You can thank the writer Angel McCoy for this. Not only she was the writer for the Living Story, she is also retconning a ton of crap from GW 1!
I agree we should get more answers but I get the feeling we’ll get those in the new season (I hope).
How about we get a different writer and just leave everything that happen in the first Living Story out in the trash bin? Seriously, other than the Zephyr Sanctum, NOTHING was worth redeemable in this horrible fanfic they call Scarlet’s story.
Where are the Aetherbaldes, the Molten Aliance, the Toxic Ones? They all just disappeared? Unsatisfying…
Guild Wars 1 Wind of Change did a better job at this. When you kill their leadership, all the minions scatter around the city and started making trouble in the neighborhood. The player end helping the citizens removing any minions in the path and making it a safer place.
I like how most of the conversation in that Epilogue was too childish, or how the Epilogue was basically a bunch of worthless conversation that the player has no in. I like how its stupidly awkward to hear about all the sister talk or how the discussion between Braham and Taimi bring nothing relevant to the story.
I like how its over one years ingame since Zhaitan’s death and how fighting Jormag or Kralkatorrik never came to past.
Its a horrible end to a horrible story from a horrible story writer.
Oh and here is a picture of what the writer consider “good character choices”. Its freaken childish.
Who wrote this plot? I had seen people act more logically in Disney films.
That would be Angel McCoy.

They are written in a way that they are idiots and that their moronic ideas would get them invade. Here is whats going to happen. Most of the Living Story heroes (like Rox and Kasmeer etc etc etc) will complement how awesome they are while they totally ignore your accomplishment or your present. They would even band together and become the next “Destiny Edge” and we get to watch them kill all the future dragon and take those credits from the player. Whoop-dee-freaken-doo.
Your writers at ANet did an amazing job with GW1, please restore the faith of some of us players by getting the Epilogue done right on the 18th.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the writers in GW 1 didn’t contribute anything to this horrific crap they call the Living Story.
I personally want her and most of the Living Story content rectonned. Its bad enough that she got a mary sue-like background story in day freaken one, and now she practically ruin most of the other content in the game with her existence (see Fractal and WvW).

No More Tricks, Scarlet
- This achievement requires a good deal of skill and awareness, make sure you are watching for the red telegraphs that show where the Holograms will fire next and make sure you do not run through any active scorch marks during the fight, good luck!
Luck is a very high factor when it comes to this achievement. I mean this because there MANY times that the spawn will spawn right on the red telegraphs. Those player will die/lose most of their health because they just so happen to spawn right into the wrong place of the battle panel. This is problematic when someone wanted to do this achievement but the second they step into the teleporting pad, they might lost the chance to do so because the hologram happens to fire directly on front of his face where he spawn.

You know, instead of giving those random crap in every chest, they should take a note from what GW 1 and give you a “Trophy” that you can exchange for a exclusive weapon skin. The chest can just give you the Trophy with no RNG attach to it. After a certain amount of week, you could place those in the gemshop or the TP. Hell, even after you exchange your Trophy for a prize of choice, you will get an icon of it in your Personal Story log that said you did it. Here is an example as to what I mean.

I honestly don’t undersatnd some of you lot.
You complained months before something int he lines of “if this doesn’t end up in Elder Dragon we’ll gather torches and pitch forks and kill Anet staff” – type of hate.
Now that you finally got your wish, you still complain? What did you expect? If this didn?t end up in a dragon awakening would you also kitten about it?
Somebody explain this to me please.
I don’t recall such comment and I would say that I find it sad that I correctly assume that the weed will be involved with the Forest Elder Dragon. The whole Living Story was a flop when that weed came in and its insulting that they use it to lead up to the dragon, rather than just write about the dragon themselves.
Expansion inc? I hope so!
Not going to happen. They get more money with the Gemshop and “free” fanfic content with half or less the effort of making an Expansion.
I see it took you this long to figure it out, OP. However, its more insulting that they are adding in the Tormented Weapon as gemshop item. The same weapon set with a set of history in regard to GW 1 player’s struggle to obtain them in the Domain of Anguish.
Actually, the game didn’t. There were a lot of Krait that were normal and not “toxic” glowing.
Considering the LS daily event consist us in going to the hot spot of those Krait area just to kill them and the Witch, I would say otherwise.
Also, As Angle explicitly said for the Krait, the wiki clearly stated the Nightmare court with Scarlet is a splinter faction.
Again, That isn’t enough information in regard to why would the Nightmare Court would work with Scarlet in the first place, or with the Krait for that matter. I am quite aware that they are two timing back stabbers from the explorable of TA, but I can’t picture them working for someone like Scarlet, who treated her employees like crap. The only excuse for this is writing new lore to fit the Living Story and that is a whole new kind of terrible.
Also, the Krait willing enough to following Scarlet for the Obelisk shards, would also be the ones who would follow her still. Why? Vengeance. A bunch of adventurers just murdered their prophet after it emerged. A super “religion is everything” group would basically follow Scarlet simply to get the heads of those who did it.
Except they could just go to the adventurer’s home land and just attack there, like they always did. Cut out the middle man (or sylvari in this case) and go directly to their heart.
Word of God aka Anet. The groups are with Scarlet because of the endgame rewards promised to them or that they want. Not the full forces she once had (for like Molten alliance and such), but the ones left are in it for the end loot.
.
Funny that those groups are consider the side group of those full force, which is a crap ton more than the full force that wasn’t siding with Scarlet to begin with. Some of them already got their weapon and magic (molten alliance) or their Prophet (Krait) and they still follow and die for Scarlet.
The Mursaat weren’t god like. And the White mantle was pretty much at it’s weakest.
LA didn’t survive the tidal wave. It got buried. It was simply rebuilt using the shipwrecked boats.
God-like does not mean goes and they can do a number to anyone that isn’t infused. Its a good thing Zinn manage to figure out a way to counter the agony. Of course, we, the players, were there to stop the White Mantle from crushing the Lion Guards.
IIRC, It had a very large fleet and the Krytan Navy helping it back then.(And claw Island)
It really only took one beating from the Karka invasion, but even then it was very minor and just the lighthouse. In Personal story it got MINOR attacks because Claw Island took the bulk of the attack and the orders were basically right there with their armies.
Mad King thorn affected the Lion’s Court/fountain. Nothing else. Hardly an attack..
The Karka came to Lion’s Arch, Twice. The second time gave us the weapon that was needed to drive them off to the Cove. The first event caught everyone off guard with all the lagging and invisible Karka flying around.
The Personal Story implies that those Risen were a giant threat and that LA was fortunate enough that they got the warming from Claw Island. The damage would have been a lot greater with a giant undead dragon breathing his breath in the populate area of LA.
The Mad King did attack LA and after the attack, he riddle everyone with his awful jokes. No one could have survive that.
And in general, most of those attacks had warning and preparation. This one did not. It had warning but the warnings weren’t acted upon. The Council got careless/overconfident, and they’ve paid for it..
Scarlet’s attack came from the Air (No warning on when, and the Captain’s council stubbornly believed they wouldn’t be attacked again and thus didn’t allow bolstered defenses), opened with a massive bombardment (No other attack did this, and the undead navies had Claw Island to deal with), followed by deploying forces (Aetherblade from air, toxic from underwater, and Molten through portals and underground), as well as dumping Miasma all over.
The Karka didn’t and the “scarlet” invasion did. There were too many signs that Scarlet would have invaded the place and only incompetency was the reason why it happen.
And with this whole invasion from air, sea, and ground. The Sea would have been detected by the guards in Claw Island. The air would have been guarded with their own airship (by the time the event happen, they have ton of those in their disposal). The only shock troop that would actually happen is the Molten Alliance and its only due to their teleportation.
And this is all assuming that Scarlet haven’t already wasted 15613501535 members of these alliance nor with all the airships and the main airship factory was destroy in the TA Aetherblade Path nor all the resource to pull this off.
Frankly, this is like going “My Necromancer survived Claw Island, all those dungeons, Arah, Orr, and more. There’s no way tripping down a flight of stairs would kill her!” And frankly, that trip COULD kill my necromancer. Get careless, and the simplest thing will wipe you out. (human necro, btw).
Then you should have use your Death Shroud like any other Necromaner.
Those airships carry a lot of cannons. Full broadsides from them focused toward the city = a lot of damage. Especially if they targeted Fort Mariner in the first barrage to strike any cannons or clustered lionguard.
And they should have loaded the place with cannons from those ship bridge or from the fort, but that wouldn’t stop the invasion because ANET said so and that is the only reason why it happen.
The Nightmare Court would ally with Scarlet cause what she is doing is their thing to a tee.
The Krait were top of the food chain in the same way humans are. Krait were a society and if they wanted to they could have slaughtered the dinosaurs or other large predators. They were top dog until an elder dragon came along and utterly kicked their kitten.
The Krait are a theocratic society. There religion is central to all they do. Scarlet turns up and offers them the equivalent of fragments of a relic which would cause the second coming. That’s huge for them. They may hate Scarlet but what she offers them is too good to pass up.
And no one would be better off allying with a Elder Dragon.
That isn’t enough information in regard to why would the Nightmare Court would work with Scarlet in the first place, or with the Krait for that matter. I am quite aware that they are two timing back stabbers from the explorable of TA, but I can’t picture them working for someone like Scarlet, who treated her employees like crap.
They could but seeing that the land was heavily dominated by T-rexs, Riders, Undead, Humans, and other jungle monstrosity, that wasn’t the case at all. If we’re talking underwater, I am placing my bets on the Largos for being top dog underwater. We seem them as assassin of the sea and they are the closing thing to being a humanoid.
I could picture a few selected Krait going zealous for the relic, but based on what the game shown up in the Nightmare update, it tells us that ALL kraits are willing to deal with Scarlet and that is a pretty big no-no on my account. I still wouldn’t believe they would follow her for this long right after we kill their prophet.
And I would think otherwise with the Elder Dragon. Each and every one of those dragons seem to hate each other and the krait could just use them (or have themselves being corrupted) with one of the Elder Dragon to get Bubbles out of the water. Its a much more straight forward approach, if you ask me.
I’ll tell you a little secret about the krait, that’s perhaps not so secret, but that may help you understand how and why they’ve changed since GW1. The krait once believed themselves to be the top of the food chain.
But, in these intervening years, they’ve been attacked, driven from their deeps, scattered into smaller groups, and forced to move into more shallow waters. The rise of the dragons gave them a little taste of humble pie. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unending_Ocean)
This group of krait are hungry to regain their previous level of power and confidence, and they believe that the one way they can do it is via their prophets. And Scarlet offered them a chance to take back what they’ve lost.
As the wiki says, “Krait doctrine fortells the return of the obelisks’ prophets, bringing with them massive armies to flood the surface of the world and destroy other species.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait)
They may have wished they could do it a different way, but this particular group of krait agreed to Scarlet’s offer of obelisk shards and the chance to “grow” a prophet.
Are we playing the same game? The Kraits were all over the Tarnished Coast by the time the heroes of GW 1 reach the EotN and I am pretty sure they would have knew they weren’t the top of the food chain with all those Dinosaurs running around and chopping everything with their Twisting Jaws.
As for the recent Kraits that came out of the sea, I can’t fathom to think that they would place their alliance with Scarlet with all the thing she done for “them”. After having their prophet kill, having countless of countless of Kraits dead in those countless amount of Living Story events, having them work with an equally xenophobic group of sylvari (which I can’t fathom as to why THEY would work with Scarlet) with no other reason other that combining toxin, and watching your employer insult you with all those “sssssssssss”, you would think there was a point where the Krait would just abandon Scarlet altogether. But I guess I am not in charge of writing up the lore and making it “sense” to fit the Living Story.
The Kraits are better off allying with an elder dragon.
No, the plot convenience took the city in under an hour. Nothing about Scarlet or her forces suggest she is capable of doing this. Considering we have dispatched every force she has ever dispatched to date.
Any victories Scarlet achieves are done so because the player and the iconic NPCs are forced to hang on to the Idiot Ball. Nike is correct.
Its pretty much on the hand of bad writing. EVERYONE and their dog know that Scarlet is going to invade and there is nothing we can do about it because it was already written in such a way that Scarlet won the invasion. You would think that by now, every alliance and every man power that Scarlet once have would abandon her but nope, everything is according to plan.
LA was invaded by god-like creatures and their cultists. LA survive the tidal wave of the Risen Orr. LA defected all those undead armies of Zhaitan. LA took two beating from the Karka Invasion. LA got bombarded with the Mad King’s shenanigans. All of this and you are going to tell me that some Sylvari was able to sack LA without any effort. Screw this.
If you guys were discussing how the credit should be split regardless of the race, I suggest you take a note from the Eye of the North. That game does a good job in give a spotlight to you, the npc heroes, and everyone that helps. You are not the big shot in that expansion but you certain will get known for it. Its what GW 2’s Personal Story should have done rather than having everyone praise Trahearne as their lord and savior.
Very important, that’s why I’m so annoyed about ANet retconning or blatantly disregarding it. (read: Scarlet)
I cared a lot about the lore, right up to the absolute dismissal of GW1 lore in the McCoy interview. “they were mistaken”
Now.. not at all in this game. The LS has made a mockery of lore in too many ways.
The Living Story itself is an abomination to the lore of the game and show how the writer of the said story didn’t even bother looking at the lore of GW 1 AND GW 2. I hated Scarlet and I hated how she kept being shoved into ever content in the game or how she is very favorable to a certain writer. Speaking of that certain writer, here is her take on Guild Wars 1 lore and how she retcon that.

Its like you never played Guild Wars 1 at all. That system was perfect in regards to how to make multiple of PCs feel like heroes and that they actually did something to the world or the game.
Lore and story is extremely important to me and its because of this, I am greatly disappointed as to how the lore is being handle in this game. The amount of Sylvari favoritism is extremely strong and I don’t like it one bit.
As you all know, the Personal Story becomes “Trahearne Story” at a certain point of the game and how he was basically Jesus to everyone he met. The PS also made it seem that the Sylvari race was the best race in the game and how no matter what race you are, your character is forced to meet up with the Pale Tree, watch her crown Trahearne as the Chosen One, and how we are forcefully calling the Pale Tree “wise” for her action. I am speaking this from a human and a charr perspective and I find this a load of crap. We also get to hear that they are immune to Zhaitan’s corruption or how the “purification of Orr” is more important than killing the Elder Dragon. We get to watch Trahearne pick a Sylvari as one of the best weapon smith in the game. We get to see their best attack unit npc game and guess what? They are the Pale Reavers and they are Sylvaris. Its not just the PS but everywhere else in the game. People always commented how special or cool the Sylvari are. There was that human and asura chat in LA where a human suggest the asura that Sylvari tech is the best choice to make. The Kodan, whom consider most of the smart race inferior, consider the Sylvari to be a special case and actually praise them. One of Norn’s specialty is about becoming a Legend? The Sylvari did that with all that hivemind crap they have when a Sylvari die. That plant die and everything he or she knows goes to every other Sylvari’s mind. It was through this race that brought in all that same-sex fiasco and how I have to see this crap ruin more stories being told in future stories. The way the Living Story play out, the Sylvari, NOT the Asura, is the smartest race in the game because of Scarlet’s existence. Playing out the hivemind crap, when she dies, EVERY sylvari will now have her knowledge link from the Pale Tree.
With that out of the way, I can clearly say that the Sylvari Race is one of the poorest written race in Guild Wars 2 and it sicken me how a race of plant people could ruin such a nice game.
Description of Topic Feature or Goal.:
If you want to attract more players into the Fractal, try bumping up the reward, make Dredge less of a drag, and remove some stuff here and there.
Suggested Idea Proposal Format:
The reward for finishing Fractal might not appeal to any of other players when they realizes that they could get more gold per hour by simply doing dungeon. You could fix this by increase the chest rewards within those 4 fractal instance, use the relic to buy some of those fractal weapons, and boost up the gold reward to around 3 gold upon complication of every even fractal.
The Dredge is another issue when it comes to the Fractal. Simply put it, its too freaken long. You could easily solve this by removing one part of the fractal AND remove the need to kill the dredges in that room where they all popout of the cart like a clown car.
Finally, lets remove Scarlet Briar from the Thaumanova Reactor. She doesn’t NEED to be there and her existence only reminds us how horrible such a character she really is. The Reactor Fractal can do fine without her being there blabbing how she is the best thing evar.
Right now, try focusing on fixing the Fractal instead of adding new junk to it and creating more mess than you actually are.
And to all of you posters out there, I have a question. Why is it that you want to suggest that they added TA F/U in the fractal? Logically, Anet should fix the path by simply fixing the Spider Spawn at the end of the path and reopen it in TA. The Fractal doesn’t need to be a dumping ground for all extra dungeons or “mistake” that Anet place into the game.
Does anyone else feel as though Medium armor is a bit bland?
That is an understatement. Its always trenchcoat this and trenchcoat that. For god sake, the ones that aren’t trenchcoats are either coat you some gems or tons and tons of gold. They could simply reuse some armor from GW 1 like these:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ranger_armor
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Assassin_armor
But that would never come to play, at all.
They could, I don’t, revamp the elite skill so that they are powerful without the stupid cooldown. You know, just like Guild Wars 1? But I guess Anet rather have those elite skills as “panic buttons” than making them more attracted to all those utility skills.
Relationships are part of a story. They’re a way of making characters feel real – that is why almost all books, films, video games etc have a relationship in them. Of course it isn’t required, but in an MMO you’re trying to construct a world – so it would be really weird if there were no relationships.
People can relate to relationships, so they make sense.
And for the cost of it, the integrity and that little the living story has in terms of seriousness. The way I see it, the relationships in this game is a cheap write in at best and a fanfic of the author’s at worst. I played many RPG games in my days and many of them don’t require that bull crap added into the story. Some of those RPG game did those “relationship” where the player get to bang a lover, but they are so out of the way of the main story that you have to dig deep to see it. In other word, they are NOT required. What do I see here in the living story (or the sylvari personal story)? Lesbian and interracial relationship that making the story felt a lot less serious and it pathetic. I don’t want to see Desperate Housewives or some drama of both lesbian in game. I want to see an adventure story of the PC or some other NPC being heroes (and they are failing this in the living story and the personal story)!
That’s like saying a character’s thoughts and emotions gets in the way of the main plot…
“Why do I care if this person’s significant other had died? We can still be out there killing evil stuff!!”
They aren’t there to “get in the way of what’s actually happening”. They’re their to add depth to the character and world. If they didn’t do that, the story would be totally generic, and it would give cardboard a run for its money when it comes to depth and emotion.
The story itself felt like cardboard and the relationship just making turn into paper.

Do you know what I think about this whole ordeal? I see BOTH TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP as a cheap way of telling a story, and it gets in the way of what actually is happening with the main plot. It doesn’t help that these same-sex relationship in these stories are usually the “in your face” kind of way and that their fans are the loudest when spoken against it.

We’re now opening up a thread for questions and here’s your topic: Characters and relationships in Tyria..
Why the hell should I even care about these poorly written characters in the Living story? Rox and Braham are extremely bad example of “I know you did them but I did them any ways” character. They have zero acknowledgement to your PC and they are shove into content they shouldn’t be in the first place. More detail in this thread.

And then there Marjory and Kasmeer. I don’t know what the hell are you guys pulling off, but this relationship “story” has nothing to do with the living story and its making the whole situation a lot less serious. This thread explain this situation a lot better.

Finally, there is Scarlet. Personally, her very existence is a very insult to the Guild Wars Universe. You insert her in every game form there is, justified her “existence” by insert more badly written living story to it, and you are trying to make me believe that she is more dangerous and serious as a villain than the dragon, despite acting like a cartoon villain, wasting what probably a world worth of resources just for lulz, and the fact you guys wasted a whole lot of the player’s money to pay off Tara Strong to voice this stupid villain. Her overall connection to the world never go away and she would leave her present here even after her death. Personally, I want her retcon.
All I can say is WHY? Why are you letting these horrible characters exist and why are you letting them destroy the integrity that the game was build on?
The point of a Sylvari doing this is to say that their race isn’t completely full of dandelions and they can be just as capable as any other.

The writers are completely bias towards the Sylvaris and so far from the interview, they are doing the complete opposite in “developing” the race. They just made Scarlet and Nightmare Court in the living story more cartoonish in the Guild Wars universe and I can’t really them them seriously. An Asura would have been a better candidate for a race of choice for Scarlet but it still wouldn’t fix the mess of story in the Living Story.
For me, its the following:
Likes:
1. Large, war-like battles
2. Or just roaming with your buddies
3. It reminds me of Alliance Battle, Fort Aspenwood, and Jade Quarry combined.
The Hates include
1. Scarlet in WvW
2. Living Story Crap
3. Living Story Crap
4. Living Story Crap
5. Living Story Crap
There are MANY inconvenient, like skill lags, removal of the WvW Matchup forum section, and bugs that was in WvW since launch, but my god I hate the Living Story and all the crap that invaded into the WvW mode.
Here is my two bits about this whole situation here. Its not Pay to Win, but rather, its the questionable decision made by the marketing team or whoever responsible for this nonsense. The direction of this mentality isn’t great and it is basically a slap in the face for all the players that got the non-sprocket version of the pickax, especially those that bought it for all their alt prier of the release of this new pickax. I don’t like it as much as you guys but I doubt the developer responsible for the this marketing gag would listen to our plea, just like all the Living Story crap that stagnate the story and content of the game.
Has anyone else shared these thoughts?
No, her very background story already destroy any redeeming factor about the Living Story. The living story was a total drag when she start doing all the bull crap and expect the players to take her seriously.
I just hope its hope a good reason. I was really impressed how they handled scarlet’s story in this last patch
There is no reason for her to be here and all this add is a crappy LS content that would have benefit without her involvement.
Seems like information about the coming update have started to turn up. And the main thing seems to be Edge of the Mists (which will be invaded by Aetherblades).

http://guildmag.com/aetherblades-invading-edge-of-the-mists/Much earlier than I though, but very nice nonetheless.
Except……………….. more kittening scarlet. Seriously WTF!
I find the responses here rather funny. Some people going all “OMG NOT MORE PVE IN WVW!” Others going “Yay free pve players to kill in wvw! Free loot bags!”
To what expense? Shove more pve crap into WvW? Or wait, it an extra map that hardly contribute to the overall WvW.
Those bags are temporary and when the event dies down, its will just be a reminder about how horrible the living story is to the overall game with all the pve content shoved into WvW.
Overflow was durable for this event.
If you play through the Lich story, it seems to snake in all directions before it makes any real sense, much like the Scarlet story. This was a frequent complaint at the time.
Yes, because the white mantle were oh so nice npcs that is willing to help us. Even if the Vizier is obvious that he looks like a villain, prier to the point where he reveal us, he help and save the PC numerous of times. Hell, he even advice us to go to the Crystal Desert and at that time, it made sense. The only complaint I recall back then was Rurik dying like a Wammo he was, the farming nerf of the Griffons, Warrior dying extremely fast with Frenzy and Healing signet up, and the Monk Strike in Thunderhead Keep.
It’s extremely messy in fact mission by mission as you play – it really isn’t until the end the confusing threadlines start to make any sense and some are done tenuously. That in many ways parallels the Scarlet issue – they may yet pull all this together and make sense in the same way.
The story wasn’t messy at all and it was straight forward as we follow the part to the end of it. Comparing the Prophesies with that crap excuse of Scarlet is asinine, especially when the story of Scarlet is horrible, every reveal is “Scarlet did it”, and how Scarlet is breaking the very game lore/story of Guild Wars just by existing.
I’m not defending Scarlet, I’m not going to bareface lie and say she’s a great villain, but historically speaking, all I’m saying is there is precedent for poor villains in the past.
And from that point, I think you are just saying the opposite. It seem you just want Scarlet in because Prophecies was extreme bad at you. You see people crap on Scarlet and you see this as an opportunity to crap at everything else about Guild Wars to make her look good.
I don’t really like this explanation. Getting people to hate the villain through bad writing, and bad character development is NOT a good way to design the main villain.
She as a character is not even annoying. What is annoying is how she is used to drive ALL the content we have – Scarlet did it. I would even prefer it if Mai Trin received more of the spotlight so its not all Scarlet.
So out of the two ways to get people to hate Scarlet this is the worst. She more like a mosquito buzzing around your face, you just want to swat it away.
You know, I’ll just settle with Mai Trin as the leader of the Sky Pirate, the Molten Alliance wasn’t form by the anyone but those two race, and the “Scarlet Invasion” is replace with "[Insert Elder Dragon] Invasion. That is nice way of setting the story up without Scarlet existing at all.
