I think the Sylvari are awesome! All of my character slots are Sylvari, as I needed to have one of each class. I pretty much knew this would be the case when I discovered they could glow.

I’ve played a lot of races over the years in different MMO’s, but Sylvari take the cake. I think the character design is stunning and intricate. I can control literally everything I want to. I like that I can make the skin more bark-like, or more plant-like, and I LOVE the different patterns! As a horticulturalist I appreciate the fact that the hair designs actually look like different plants/flowers. I only wish there were more of them! I keep thinking how awesome it would be to make a cherry blossom sylvari.

My only complaint is that the character creation timer is too short. It always kicks me out in the middle of designing my Sylvari because it takes so long to test out different features/colors/patterns!

That and I would appreciate more armor that looks good on the sylvari. My poor guardian, she can’t afford the T3 cultural, and regular armor looks hideous on her

My fiance and I are looking to join a guild with gamers our own age (29), or at least older than the tween gamers.

What we are looking for:
1. Guild with Vent/Teamspeak/cans with string?
2. Guild that plays WvW for fun.
3. People serious about running Fractals. (We are at lvl 15 Fractals currently).
4. Gamers our own age.
5. We’d prefer to stay on Jade Quarry, but would potentially move for the right guild.

We don’t care if your guild is big or small, so long as there are regular/reliable people to play with on a daily basis. Lately we’ve been running 1-2 Fractals a night. We’d be looking for regulars to at least do a daily with.

What we have:
Between us we have 5 lvl 80s (Warrior, Thief, Guardian, Mesmer, Elementalist). We have also maxed armorsmithing, tailoring, leatherworking, cooking, jewelcrafting, artificing, and weaponsmithing.
Both of us were experienced raiders in WoW, and have tried most MMO’s out there. We are just looking for a group of like-minded people to hang out with and have fun!

I have had this happen as well! At first I just thought something was wrong with my keyboard because of the delayed response, but the straight line thing is exactly what is happening to me.

Better than being perma stuck.

#1: Dying in the Cliffside Fractal
It sucks if you fall and hit a cliff on the way down and die, instead of falling through the air and being downed back at checkpoint. Nobody can reach you to rez you, and everyone else is forced to commit suicide and restart at checkpoint. I have a real knack for hitting the rocks on my way down, and sometimes this has happened twice in the same run. Please don’t punish my group because I am terrible at jumping : (

#2: Dying in the Uncategorized Fractal
Same problem as #1. If you die and happen to hit part of the cliff, nobody can reach you to rez you, and everyone is forced to commit suicide and restart.

#3: Jade Maw Boss fight, targeting you while you are down.
I really think he shouldn’t be able to target you if you are downed. It sucks when he targets you once, and you don’t make it to a crystal, then he targets you again while you are downed and just kills you straight out because you don’t even have the option of picking up a crystal even if you are right next to it. Nobody even has a chance to rez you.

#4: Gate before final boss in Snowblind Fractal
People will rush the boss so fast that a gate gets thrown up. Which is fine, since you put the flag there, you click on it and it will transport you inside the gate. But two or three times now I’ve gotten caught in the middle of the gate as it was getting put up, and then I am stuck inside of it and I can’t reach the flag. Sometimes I’ve managed to wiggle my way out, but other times I’ve just been stuck.

#5: Tree growth in the Swampland Fractal
I died in one of the spots where trees spontaneously grow, you know, to block an area off. The trees grew over me, but my party was still able to rez me. Unfortunately I was then stuck inside the tree. I had to wait until the trees changed spots again before I was able to get out. It would have been nice to be able to restart from checkpoint, but didn’t even have that option since I couldn’t die. (a /kill command would be a nice feature).

Yeah, she does have kind of freakishly long fingers. I never noticed that before!

As I’ve been playing the game I’ve noticed a lot of Sylvari NPCs (my favorite race btw) wearing a mixture of the cultural armor pieces and regular armor. I really like this look
when it is done right.

Last night I spent a huge amount of time finding just the right pieces of armor to put together on my Mesmer! After all that work, I am curious to see any/all outfits of people’s characters that use a mixture of the cultural/TA armor and regular armor.

I think it might be nice to have a sort of gallery of what regular armor pieces go well with the Sylvari cultural/TA armor!

I experienced this last night with my buddy in a Fractal! It really was terrible, because we had done two events, and were on the third one, and the entire party simultaneously got disconnected. Needless to say our progress wasn’t saved.

When I was sitting in Lion’s Arch later that night, other people were complaining about the same problem.

I think that viewing armor for the purposes of equipping alts is the only ‘good reason’ I need for wanting the capability to view other types of armor.

Removing this feature makes things unbelievably complicated. My bank is pretty full as it is, so now I have to clear out a space to put the new gear in the bank. Log in and out of my other medium and light armor characters to try the armor on. Log back in to my main character. Withdraw the armor I want to sell, and put the stuff I had to take out of my bank to make space, back in!

Before I could just preview and sell.

What bug? I saw the glow on my sylvari when I made her. And I made her on release day.

I thought the problem most people were having was that they didn’t turn the lights off to see the glow when they first made their character. I don’t really see that as a game bug. At worst it is an oversight that they could have done more to point out with a handy tool tip.

Obviously, but why do I have to guess? Why can’t they just give us a straight answer?

I think most people’s frustrations lie not in the fact that the patch isn’t live yet, but in the fact that the time listed for when it will go live is vague at best.

I don’t know about you ANet, but when I have a report due to a customer by 5pm on a Friday, I don’t email them pictures of hedgehogs (however cute they may be) and tell them it will be done when it gets done, ignoring what I initially promised.

I don’t care if the patch goes live on the 14th or the 15th. I just want to know WHEN, so I can plan things accordingly. In the real world this is considered common courtesy. If you state the patch will go live on the 14th, most people (reasonably) assume that by midday on the 14th the patch will be live.

I am 30 years old and I love video games. I admit to planning my time accordingly to play video games (I have to do this because I am a responsible adult and have other priorities).

This planning becomes hard to do when no solid time is given. All I am asking for is some common courtesy, ANet.

Seriously, you can fix it by following these instructions:

Once in the makeover kit…change the gender of your character to the opposite gender. For example…my character is female, I changed her to male. Go to the glow slider option for the opposite gender(this is the slider below the glow color options), and it will be turned all the way off for some reason. Turn the glow slider back all the way up to max level, and change the gender of your character back to your intended gender.

Check the glow with lights off (wait for the glow to ‘pulse’)…and amazingly, it now works! Took me two hours to figure this out…it is a silly bug, but I assure you this solution will fix it.

I bought a makeover kit for the express purpose of changing the skin/glow color of my Sylvari, as I am sure many other people have.

When I first opened the kit, I couldn’t see her glow at all, even with the light icon ‘off’. This was more than slightly annoying after having payed 350 gems for the kit.

After monkeying around for about 2 hours, I was finally able to figure out a fix. For some reason, if you change the gender of your character and go to the ‘glow slider’ (below the glow color selection), it will be completely turned off (slider pulled all the way left). If you slide it all the way back ‘on’ (slider pulled all the way right), the glow will magically reappear, and you can change your gender back to your starting gender, glow intact.

Common ANet, fix this! A slider is just in the wrong place…

Yeah, this is not a bug, and is intentional. Since Sylvari grow their own armor it only makes sense. I think it actually looks really cool when you use it to your advantage! More examples can be seen in this thread:

Just a note, If you have a non-sylvari buddy do the mission with you (I did mine with a Norn), it will work properly. The other (non-sylvari) character has to start the mission though, and you have to join them.

I think this was a very valuable post! I thank you for the information, because I could see myself trying the exact same thing!

Also, to the person who said you should just buy dye packs with gems, this isn’t a reliable way to get rare dyes either. You’d likely be better off buying gems and trading them for gold and buying unidentified dye rather then buying the dye packs. Each dye box contains 7 random dyes (5 common and 2 uncommon or a rare).

I thought the graphic looked really cool, and carrying it around was fun, but they should have given you the option to change back to your other weapon sets.

I agree that it makes the battle harder than it would otherwise be, mostly because you’ve never used the weapon before and aren’t used to playing with it. It’s cool to see the different effects, but I pretty much just mashed buttons to use it…

Personally, I love the Tier 1 and 2 light armor sets for Sylvari the most, I think they look better than Tier 3!

For worst looking sylvari armor, I think the Tier 2 heavy and medium armor are just lazy/sloppy looking. Especially the heavy armor, as it only has two dye slots per piece of armor, and it is very poorly blended! The armor would look really cool if they had spent a little more time deciding where the colors go. and blending it a little better.

This really irks me, because you can see someone spent oodles of time on the light armor, getting everything to blend really well!

Playing as a Sylvari, I felt Trahearne actually had a lot of depth of character. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that you meet him right away as one of the Pale Tree’s firstborn.

My boyfriend was wondering out loud about who Trahearne was when he showed up in his storyline, but he started off playing a Norn. Part of people’s hatred toward Trahearne, I think, is not having had a proper introduction/attachment to him.

I’m a girl, and I have to say that I actually kind of fell in love with Trahearne’s character, playing as sylvari. There were moments where I was like, “aww, just stand right there so I can take pretend romantic screenshots with you” <3 <3 <3 I thought he had some very good moments, and I actually empathized with him quite a bit.

I felt some major romance going on when you fight the last eye and are about to cleanse Orr, and he tells you that he’s glad it is just you and him. I seriously thought they were going to kill him somehow, and then I really would have cried! Though I admit this doesn’t really make sense unless your character has a crush on him.

These points aside, I can see why other races besides Sylvari might have a problem with him. He seems to have just showed up out of nowhere in the other race storylines.

Like the person above stated, it has to do with the color of your character’s skin. Here are some examples using my characters. There are parts of the cultural armor that stay a slightly darker color than the skin tone you picked, no matter what color you choose to dye your armor.

The idea is that Sylvari ‘grow’ their own armor…it is a part of them…so you have to work with your skin tones in the armor.

I think it is actually a really cool effect when people use it properly! It’s too bad more people don’t know about it while making their character.

If you really hate the orange bits you can always use a makeover kit and change your characters’ skin tone to something that will go more with the colors you want to use

You know what annoys me almost as much as the crippled sound effect? When I am using my guardian special ability to give everyone speed, and she yells out ‘RETREAT!’

We aren’t always retreating you know…esp. in WvWvW!!! Inevitably someone on vent asks whose character it is that keeps yelling retreat. Yep…that would be me…

I will agree I think it looks better on female sylvari then male sylvari. I do think this was a case of the art department being a little lazy and not making the two genders different enough. Just makeover as female and appreciate your new assets!

I bet I could make your character look good. It’s all about color blending with the sylvari armor!

I’m not sure what you mean by the leaves turning purple when you dye them green…maybe more screenshots would help deduce the problem?

I’ll post pictures of my sylvari when I get home, along with how I dyed the armor…they are all styling in the cultural gear!

Mine actually looks really cool….I just use dye that matches the skin colors

The frosted skin always ends up looking more ‘white’ to me. My guardian has frost skin with white hair and she looks relatively white most of the time, but especially in bright sunlight. In darker places she looks more silver colored.

The idea is that sylvari ‘grow’ their armor. All sylvari cultural armor contains a color tone from their skin. The green you are seeing is exactly that. If you ‘preview’ other sylvari cultural armor, you will see what I mean. That color will show up on all of the sylvari cultural armor, unless you change your skin/pattern color.

Did I hurt your feelings by responding to your smack talk? Apparently NSP is only allowed to talk smack to AR (specifically TFO), and not the other way around? Gee, I didn’t get the memo.

I was only as insulting as the topic I was responding to is. Which is quite fair in my opinion. You are hardly ones to speak about respect.

TFO fought to the last for Anvil Rock last night. Myself, along with many other TFO players, played for more than 12 hours, trying to hold up against NSP numbers. When the majority of TFO was online, we held our own.

We are proud of how we played. Our server worked well together. In the end it came down to numbers and hacked orbs. It is very demoralizing to play so hard and the next morning have nothing to show for it.

No server should have to face THIS time and again for questionable integrity of some members of the other team.

Way to keep fighting until the head AR and FC, you had us pushed back bad last night, but most of us NA guys stayed up past 5AM to ensure we regained our footing in EB and didn’t lose SM. Anyways great fight, we could use more people with that type of dedication in NSP.
GG despite the score. AR definitely can’t match NSP over all 4 zones, but the 1-2 zones we fill have been back and forth and a ton of fun.
I think we’ve come a long way as a server this week; better communication, pub herders put in place (Commanders), and many special tactics learned.
I won’t be surprised if we bury whoever we’re up against next.

Forgive me, my linking isn’t working.

We didn’t really have a lot of people on by the end of the week, so it was a little tough. Even during prime time yesterday there were no map ques an Os had to change maps constantly to keep capping things.

I think because there is such a gap in points, people become untinterested if there is no competition, so keep forming up and for god’s sake, if you are in TFO or know them, tell them to quit zerging blinding and put up more defense. Also send scouting parties. We took down a keep through a wall without anyone even noticing on EB, which seems to be the TFO choice map.

Keep working on it or we will lose people!

TFO put up at least a dozen arrow carts, a few ballista, and some trebs at AB last night. So I’m not sure what you mean by ‘more’ defense. We stole an orb (twice). We defended the keep holding the orb until late into the night. NSP tried half a dozen times to take the keep, which we easily defended against.

We have 4-5 scouts out in the map at any given time, checking on locations and keeping up on the things we deem important. Just because people randomly yell out in /map that somewhere needs back-up doesn’t require us to come running simply because we have people. We have our own goals and priorities, and we help with the causes we think will be productive and fruitful.

I’m also not sure what you mean by zerging blindly, sir. All of our WvW players are on vent. Everything we do is planned. We extensively discuss tactics while defending, going so far as to send out small groups to take out enemy siege, etc. Just because you may not know/understand our plan doesn’t mean we don’t have one :P

Rest assured that what was left undefended was left undefended on purpose. TFO is going to continue to come into our own over the next few weeks. We have worked hard, even in the face of stiff competition, and we gained ground, even at the end of the week when it seems others had given up.

Worry less about what TFO is doing and more about what you are doing, sir. TFO will see you on the battlefield.

Well I hope they were at least selling something good…like, you know, girlscout cookies? ^.^

Off question rare, are new users like auto muted on the tfo vent? I ask because it often seems like no one hears me when I say anything (I do not talk much, but when I do it is usually in response to a posed question).

I have noticed there are a few ‘quiet’ people in vent, meaning their mic is really quiet. With so many people it is easy for them to get drowned out. You might want to consider turning your mic up, as the other night I did think you were rather quiet!

As long as it is not interrupting tactical discussion or directions, most of TFO are pretty good about answering questions. If battle is particularly intense you may get no response. Then I’d either type it in guild or ask again in a little bit.

lol…and then flanking them from the side at least FOUR times and taking out half their attackers on the gate each time, until they figured it out!

Not to mention charging up those stairs of death not once, but TWICE to take out trebs! The second time it was a trap…we still won!

We have a 200 slot TS3, for the ARC alliance. 10 guilds and growing. Contact any of the ANV officers, and we’ll fill you in. TFO I love you guys, but your powerleveling trains aren’t winning us matches, perhaps we can change that this week by leaving level 80’s behind at towers.

We haven’t power-leveled in three nights. We have been stealing orbs and taking keeps. Frankly, I think we are doing our fair share :P

Rest assured TFO is going play WvW the way its members want to play. So far this has been a good balance between blitzing and defending. We plan to keep it this way.

Do you like gold, experience, and karma? It’s easy to get with the right group in WvW!! We have had several members level from 20 to 80 in 3-4 days, just doing WvW!

The Fallen Order (TFO), is always looking for new members to join us on the battlefields!! We are running groups 24 hours a day, night and day! Our 50 slot vent is always filled with people!

The guild is run by experienced gamers with an average age of 25-30. We can be a rowdy group, but we have a lot of fun!

Vent is a requirement for participation in WvW! You don’t have to talk, but you do have to be able to listen. TFO is on the ball, and if you can’t hear the leaders, you won’t be able to keep up.

There is also a large part of the guild that never WvWs and mostly sticks to PVE and dungeon running! The guild is large and with lots of players comes lots of knowledge. If you are new, just need to get your bearings, or want to try out WvW, TFO is the place to be!

SoS is one of the dedicated guilds on this server and our strategy isn’t like TFO’s though. I see you guys run from one point to another as you gain strength with others following your groups and that is great!

My group likes to take a spot, build it up keep the supply lines incoming and hit their supply lines as we fortify our fall back position. If you haven’t seen a keep or fort owned by us, you’ll find it is more like a fortress. We actually want our enemies to attack us, and the fact is, defending a tower, keep ticks a “repel enemies” event every 5 mins. so honestly that is great leveling, plus if you put lower level members on arrow carts, ballistas, cata’s, and cannons they will gain tons of exp and bags off their kills.

When we fortified the keep we owned, we had a lower lvl gain 7 levels just from manning a cannon, and defending the southern gate from shiverpeak lol.

SoS likes to island hop as i call it, but we kinda have to, we don’t have the luxury of a 100 gold book so everyone follows us, we don’t have the luxory of numbers, but when stragglers see us running by, they tend to change course and follow.

I, personally, went from level 17 to level 80 from Friday to Sunday on my second toon, just by following with my guildies in TFO as we capped supply and towers. We just don’t get that kind of xp from defending. PvP is an amazingly fun way to level! Maybe I play too much…lol.

We do like defending though, as we did last night, just to keep things interesting! Can’t be running around all the time! The book is nice, because it is easy for people to follow, but Commander still doesn’t have as many useful features as it should.

When you turn in the final quest, you get an exotic colored ‘bag of loot’. First it held five crappy items. Then they fixed it. Now it holds 3 crappy items.

The storyline is very long. It took me quite awhile (lots of dying, and LOTS of bugs) past lvl 80 to finish all of the quests.

The first reward, 5 crappy blue or green items of various level, was completely unacceptable. I cannot put into words my disappointment upon receiving this ‘reward’.

The ‘fix’ (I guess you guys use this term loosely) 3 lvl 78+ green items…is an insult. What use do I have for those at level 80? Why even bother giving us 3…why not just eliminate the stupid reward?

I am ashamed of myself for defending you while you were working on this ‘fix’ for the final reward. I had faith that you were going to come through with something great for your players and that it was all just a big misunderstanding.

Why not give me a skin or minipet or something for all my hard work? It doesn’t need to be exotic. I just want something cool I can show off that proves I finished the final quest?

I have absolutely zero motivation to play through story mode on my alt characters (which would have kept me very busy), because I know that all that is waiting for me is more vendor trash. I don’t understand why you want to kill your re-playability ArenaNet…you made branching story lines for a reason right? Give me something to work with here!

I have defended and praised GW2 from the start. I love the races and the classes. I LOVE the gameplay. But as a serious gamer who has logged over 10 years in RPGs and MMOs, the final quest reward, as it currently stands, is completely inappropriate for saving the world from an undead dragon.

Shame on you ArenaNet. Shame on you.

ANV just started an alliance last night with other pvp guilds on the server (including TFO).

I think we will all be working pretty closely together

Had a really fun time working with everyone defending our little keep in EB. NSP kept pounding the walls with trebs and swarming in. We held for hours. Epic battles last night. Hats off to NSP groups for the battles. Great work overall by TFO, enjoyed working with you guys last night. Fun times working with a lot of people/guilds I had not seen on these maps before.

That was a fun epic battle! I was telling a friend in real life about it, and he is thinking about upgrading his computer so he can join in the fun!

TFO absolutely loved this!! A couple of trebs took out two of the walls of our inner keep and we made our last stand on top of the keep lord. We repelled NSP not once, but twice!! And we STILL managed to hold the keep for the rest of the evening! I wish I had some better screen shots…it was epic!!

TFO is actively running groups all day, and well into the night. We have anywhere between 10 – 40 people with us on a regular basis. Last night we nearly topped out vent! We upgraded to a 50 slot vent after maxing out the 25 slot vent last week.

Also, the guild saved and managed to buy one of our leaders the commander book. If he (Pimpnizle) is on, you will be able to tell where we are all blitzing. If we are going to take a keep/tower, would you like us to announce it, so if a guild wants to defend it they can?

We are also open to forging alliances with smaller guilds/groups.
