Arcane PowerFunction Issue/Tooltip Issue
Uses more than one charge for skills that inflict conditions or damage over time (Noticeable with Burning Speed and Churning Earth). Intended?

I can’t answer whether this is intended behaviour or not, but I can shed some light on why it probably occurs for Burning Speed from a technical perspective.

Burning speed seems to be a composite of two spells, the wall and the blast. You can see this by the interaction between Blind and Burning Speed. Lets use a duel between an s/d ele and a d/d ele. The d/d ele casts burning speed and the s/d ele casts blinding flash to mitigate damage. One of two things occur. In one case, the burning speed misses entirely. In the other it hits and the blind seems to do nothing. What actually happens in the second case is that the s/d ele “blinded” the wall portion of the spell, which ate up the blind.

If we look at it this way then Arcane Power is functioning correctly as there are two components of damage.

Edit: it would also be helpful if you combined the hydromancy bug in the first post with the one in the later post.

Keep up the good work

I’m not sure if these are considered targeting bugs: gap closers that do not hone in at all or consistently. (Burning Speed / Tidal Wave)

Burning Speed and Tidal Wave are not actually targeted spells. They simply move you forward depending on your character’s orientation.

Dumb question.
How the kitten do you destroy those orbs that pull you in Liadri part?
Seen on Dulfy you have to melee them, but S/? has no melee lol
Tried using anything & sod all works.

Fire auto and air auto will work every time on the orbs for sceptre. You can also use Lightning Strike and Phoenix reliably. Earth and water autos get obstructed for me a lot. Earthquake also works in a pinch.

I just beat Liadri a little while ago with s/d. 0/20/0/20/30 build build I used. I didn’t put any jewels in the calculator because I have none in my actual trinkets yet.

Now that I’ve done it, I feel like 0/30/0/10/30 is perfectly doable as well. I didn’t actually end up using my utilities at all when I beat her. I’d drop the cantrip vigor + regen and just use water V, cleanse on swap.

I also want to offer a few general tips unrelated to builds. I’ll divide the tips into parts one and two of the fight. I’ve ranked them in order of what I feel is most important to least important.

  • Part 1
  1. Practice obtaining orbs of light quickly. The quicker you can get part 1 done, the more time you will have to defeat her.
  2. Mitigate her auto attack damage through sidestepping. Using small left-right movements will cause a large portion of her attacks to miss, helping you keep your health up.
  3. Learn the pattern of attack for Shadowfall. Shadowfall attacks in a very specific pattern. Learning this pattern will allow you know which areas of the arena are safe to move to. More importantly, it allows you to know in advance whether a pool of light will be covered by the next Shadowfall. There is a great diagram on dulfy.net that shows the pattern.
  • Part 2
  1. KEEP MOVING along the outside of the arena. Shadowfall will now cover half the arena at a time. There are two safe pockets with each attack, on opposite sides of the arena. These safe spots will shift in a circular pattern with each attack. It is very important to keep up with them. If you look at dulfy’s diagram, Shadowfall will hit areas 1&2, followed by 3&4, then 1&2again, etc.
  2. Dodge only what NEEDS to be dodged. Three things need to be dodged, in order of importance: Shadowfall, clones, Liadri’s leap attack (weakens and cripples you). With practice, the first two can mostly be avoided with proper movement, leaving dodges for Liadri’s leap.
  3. Cleanse cripple and weakness. Cripple for obvious reasons. Weakness reduces your damage output but also reduces endurance regen. If you do 1 & 2 properly, you shouldn’t need to cleanse too often.
  • Applies to both parts
  1. Destroy cosmic rifts ASAP. Should be self explanatory. You can rally off them, but they cause a lot of havoc and grief.

I see you’ve already removed the on-swap sigils.

I wanted to mention that during my testing of them I had some issues with Sigil of Leeching and Sigil of Battle in the off-hand. The Sigil of Leeching wasn’t procing for me. I did something (can’t really remember what), and it started working again. Same thing with Battle, but I know what I did that fixed it. I took the weapon off, then put it back on. It then started working as normal.

I can’t say with any certainty what caused these issues, but I’d call these anomalies. May do some more testing later on this. The sigils did work though, after the issues went away.

BUGGED WEAPON SKILLS

Arc LightningFunction Issue/Animation Issue
Skill may continue to animate after cast time has expired or target has exceeded maximum skill range.

Additionally, the skill doesn’t fully animate when targeting certain things. By this I mean the beam doesn’t appear. There will be a ball of electricity in your hand, but there will be no beam towards the target. Examples are environmental objects and dragons. There are probably other things I can’t think of at the moment.

Rock BarrierTooltip Issue
Tooltip when active states that nearby foes take damage and you have 5 charges. Instead, when active this skill increases toughness and you have a single charge to activate to damage foes.

You might want to specify that the tooltip you’re talking about is the buff that appears in your effects bar after you’ve casted rock barrier. The tooltip for the skill itself is accurate.

Second,

CURRENT GENERAL/KNOWN ISSUES
Air Attunement SwapFunction Issue
Switching to Air attunement is considered an attack and may cause you to attack a nearby target. This bug activates even when not traited for Electric Discharge.

This has been fixed
I created the initial bug report for this almost a year ago. It was fixed a few months back in a patch. I didn’t want to necro an 8 month old thread though, so I didn’t post in my old thread that it has been fixed.

Once again, thanks for making this post. I’m more than willing to help test what people think are potential bugs.

PS: This is my old bug report post
Should we make a post in it saying it’s been fixed? I’m not sure if it’s worth necroing that thread.

I had to rebind the number keys back (I removed them when I rebound everything) to play the Bell Choir though lol.

When trying to preview a PM, the preview won’t show formatting and emoticons.

For example the paragraph tags will be shown (<p> </p>) instead of actual blank lines as intended. Emoticons will show the image tags with their source etc. It also doesn’t matter if you use regular returns([Enter]) or textile (p.) to produce the tags.

When the Pm is actually sent it will look fine so it’s just an issue with the preview. It should be fixed any way though.

Materials only show up in the discovery panel if there are still recipes to discover from them. If you’ve unlocked all recipes that involve Vile essence, then it won’t show up in the panel any more. My guess is that, as a 400 huntsman, you’ve done exactly that. There is nothing more to learn from Vile essence, so it no longer shows.

As an example: put one of the items that do show up in the panel (say, Ecto), in the discovery box. It will say “X possible recipes.” Once you’ve discovered all of them. That particular item (Ecto) will no longer be displayed.

BUG - Golem Positioning System

in Personal Story

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

Ok, I got through it but not in the manner intended. If the first one to shoot is at 1:54 then it shoots waaaaaay early. I did the sequence as the video provider laid out and not once did I see the full sequence fire NOR my own panels fire after clicking them. I literally saw maybe HALF the graphics in the storyline. If this is what I can expect out of game play, then higher levels are gonna be impossible. Too bad, because you can tell how much love went into this game. It’s epic like Star Wars without the crazy map sizes and MUCH more engaging than wow.

This is a much more informative post than your first one and something the dev team can have a look into. I personally have not experienced this issue with missing spell effects. The video also shows all the effects as well.

From what I can tell you’re fairly new to the game. So I’d tell you not to make wholesale judgements on your one experience with this lvl 4 personal story. There’s a lot more game out there to experience.

That being said, there are some bugs with the personal story you should watch out for here. The first post contains the biggest issues.

Good luck out there.

BUG - Golem Positioning System

in Personal Story

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

So, using the video as a guide, were you able to get past it? Occasionally (as in the video) the first step isn’t firing off, but I’ve never seen any others fail.

The first sequence does fire in the video Jeff. It’s just nicely camouflaged against the golem and the bright lights in the background .

3:12 is the beginning of the second sequence. You (and the maker of the video) missed the first sequence. The person in the video happened to guess the first sequence correctly by pressing the centre console at random.

The first sequence is shown at ~1:54, right after the cutscene is finished and Hronk is still talking. It’s really easy to miss. Watch closely. The person in the vid then stands around aimlessly for about a minute before making a guess and presses the centre console at ~3:10. Then you actually noticed the second sequence being shown ( right, then left).

[Elementalist] Swapping into Air attunement causes character to auto attack nearest mob

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

Ho! We got a response .

What he’s saying is that the air attunement skill is psuedocoded something like this:

Put player into combat mode (this is probably an intrinsic property of the skill and handled outside of the skill’s flow of logic)
—set target
—set auto-attack on
If player has Electric Discharge Trait, do the electric discharge thing
—deal damage
—animation
Switch player to air attunement
—remove old attunement (if lingering attunements, pulse it one last time with a duration of 5s)
—put on new attunement
—change skill bar
—if elemental attunement, apply swiftness in an area
—etc, etc.

The skill that puts us into air attunement is always a range 900 offensive skill, just the actual dealing of damage is conditional on us having that trait.

MrQuizzles has it right. This is what I concluded from my tests too. While this bug is not directly related to slotting Electric Discharge, it is likely happening because of the needs of that trait (to cast Lightning Strike when we switch to air attunement).

Good news!
-Bill

Thanks for looking in to this Bill .

PersonalStory Rewards Unobtainable In PVE

in Personal Story

Razgriz.7319

I’m pretty sure most of the story reward skins can be found in other areas of the game. You just need to find them :P. I know I kept a pair of leggings from a lvl 60ish story until I found out it was available as the tier 2 crafted set.

I think this mostly applies to everything else. The hard part is finding them, especially since the armour section of the wiki is still not very well documented. You can try asking other people in game if they recognize the skin. Link it in chat with [shift + (click the item)]. Or you can trawl through the image galleries on the wiki and see if you can find it.

BUG - Golem Positioning System

in Personal Story

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

The first step only uses one console, the centre one (#2 in your case). If you press any of the other ones, Hronk will tell you it’s wrong, and you’ll have to start over. Then the next part uses two consoles. Then 3, then 4, etc.

So if you’re trying to make 2 inputs on the very first part of the sequence, you did it wrong. It’s very easy to miss the first prompt. It fires off really quickly.

[Elementalist] Swapping into Air attunement causes character to auto attack nearest mob

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

From my observations, I think this is just caused by the way in which Electric Discharge is implemented.

Currently, the game will treat any attempt to switch to air attunement (by using the keybinds or clicking the UI icon) as the trigger to fire off Electric Discharge at your target. The trigger will happen even if you don’t have the minor trait unlocked. This is treated as an attack and your character will continue with auto-attacks afterwards.

There’s no need to scrap the trait, which works fine in and of itself. Just modify the implementation to only trigger Electric Discharge when you are already in combat (like how Evasive Arcana currently works) and that should alleviate the issues.

Disclaimer: All of the previous statements only apply if the implementation of Electric Discharge is indeed the cause. I could simply be dead wrong .

Razgriz.7319

I can confirm this. I’ve tried to use those functions before to no effect. The Textile versions of them are also disabled.

If these functions are disabled on purpose, they should be removed from the section explaining how to use the markup. I’d also like to suggest that we be allowed to use these two particular functions. It would make commenting on certain topics much easier (such as when reporting a bug and using superscript to explain certain key terms and such without doing it inline).

As a side note, the both of these are labelled as “Subscripted text” on the page explaining the markup. One of them should be “Superscripted”.

That doesn’t matter. They only have to take a few minutes out of their precious time and treat their customers right. I don’t know why anybody wants to argue against this. Are people against being treated like paying customers instead of garbage?

I am not arguing with you. In fact, in my first post, I agreed with you about there being some lack of communication.

Just as an FYI for everyone here, ANet staff have said in the past that they do not generally like to post about where they might be taking certain things because they iterate a lot in their design process (in other words, try out different things). They are likely to make many changes along the way and things may turn out differently than they originally “promised” if they post about it too early. Being the internet, many people will no doubt be angry at the developers for “breaking their promise”.

I can’t remember who posted this. I’ll try to find the post.

Edit: I found it. The post was made by Robert Hrouda in a post over in the dungeon forums.

I think someone else, possibly Jon Peters, also made a similar post at some point. I can’t remember.

It should be noted that the people posting on the forums ARE NOT the programmers fixing the bugs. There’s a completely separate team for Public Relations, there is NO EXCUSE for the silence in these forums. We’re running around like headless chickens.

Actually, ANet generally has their staff shy away from posting about stuff that isn’t in their realm of expertise. For example, Jeff Vaughn posts a lot in the personal story subforum as that is what he’s working on. Robert Hrouda post regularly in the dungeons forum as he works to fix things there.

I think we all need to step back a moment and take a deep breath. I can understand the frustrations the OP and a lot of other posters are expressing in here. I play an elementalist too. It doesn’t feel good to see other professions get fixes before the one you play.

It’s very understandable that people don’t like waiting in the dark and I agree with you that there may be a lack of communication here. However, all you have to do is look at the length of the patch notes to know that they are indeed working very hard on fixing things. A closer look would reveal that they are in fact trying to bring fixes to all aspects of the game.

I’ll echo the sentiments of another poster here: If you are really bothered by the state of the elementalist and the lack of communication on the subject, then perhaps taking a break from the profession would be a good choice to consider.

discovering new areas maybe.

I’ll try this out. From what I recall this doesn’t seem to happen though.

This happens on down state too, you lose the effect of the potions or crystal, and have to use a new one again, and again.

That’s a good catch. I’ll test this when I get the time.

So I tried both of these things out. Neither of them cause the potion buff to go away.

Uncovering new areas of the map you are in does not erase the potion buff. Nor does unlocking new waypoints or POI. Didn’t try doing any Vistas. Will do that later.

Downing, then rallying will not erase either of the nourishment buffs. However, I killed myself (in the name of science!) and the potion buff was erased. The food buff stayed. It may have something to do with ressing at a waypoint. I will have to try with someone around to res me at some point.

GW2 dungeons vs GW1 dungeons

Posted by: Razgriz.7319

Razgriz.7319

The dungeons of GW1 were brutal if you didn’t have any idea what you were doing. I tried out the Domain of Anguish with a PUG when it was first released. Just a rag tag bunch of people excited to try the new area with some monks/healers thrown in for good measure. We wiped on the first group. No joke. Barely stepped out of the door. It was pretty comical actually .

A while later people started figuring out how to deal with the mobs in there and developed specific team comps to clear them without ANet having to change anything.

GW dungeons just take time and coordination. Always have, always will.

Edit: I’m also not talking about the equivalent of hitting lvl 30 or 35 for the very first time and running Ascalonian Catacombs. I’m talking about a full group of players who’ve played through the entire campaign and in most cases multiple GW1 campaigns. Fairly experienced players in other words.

I don’t believe so, because after a certain point in the story, whenever I try to kill something it displays “This content has been temporarily disabled, please try again later.” in large red letters across the screen. The first time I played trough with this, I ignored it, and it proved to be bugged. I tried it again today, and just left the instance when I saw this message.

Hey, I just did this story quest today. I got the same message when killing some mobs. I ignored it and continued on (with the message repeating periodically) and completed it with no problems.

I’m not sure what causes the message to appear. It seems to be when I kill certain mobs. Can’t really be more specific, seemed to be rather random. I will note that some of the Risen Grubs were “moving” exceptionally fast. Seemed kind of like their animation was sped up (where they would “turn” really quickly on the spot, or move between two extremely close points really fast). They appeared to have normal speed animations when I aggroed them though.

Which part did you get stuck on? I just did this a few hours ago, and experienced the same message you did.

I’m also posting because the other longer hair options all appear to be fine in this stance. They will just float on the back of the character as they should. I’ve only found severe issues with these two. They are in the norn female hair options.

Ok, so I’m trying to establish a pattern here.

Every time I’ve reached the end of Detha’s path, she’s died at least once in the Flooded Temple area (where you have to use the traps against the Gravelings).

Just ran Ascalonian Catacombs after the new update and also got blocked at the final part of path #2.

We took Detha to the Hall of Champions but her dialogue doesn’t trigger and the mortar event doesn’t start.

Did Detha die for you guys when you did your run? I’m posing this question to everyone who HAS encountered this blocking bug.

I can’t say I’ve ran into this problem, and I do this dungeon and route every day. Not sure what triggers it. What I don’t get is though why pugs only want to do route two, when it is quite harshly the hardest.

Since you say you’ve not (ever?) ran into this problem, has Detha ever died for you in the trap room? Or have you always been able to keep her alive? This question is also for anyone who has NOT run into this bug.

Ok now I am having to auth everytime I log into the game. So I have to check my email each time I log in.

Yeah, so… how do we get rid of it? I don’t see it in the account settings. It’s annoying. I would prefer not to have to do it again. This is not the only computer I use, and if I have to check my email every time I want to log on it’s going to get really old really fast.

If you looked on the authorization page, there is a check box below the allow access button that says: “Remember this network”. It does exactly what it says.

[Artificer Potions] Nourishment buff disappears on zoning

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Razgriz.7319

I noticed this a couple of days ago. After using an artificer potion, your character gets a Nourishment buff with a wrench icon. If you then leave the zone some how, your buff will disappear without running the full duration.

This only happens with the Nourishment buff for potions. The Nourishment buff you get from food (the icon with the apple) will stay with your character and run its course.

Actions which constitute leaving the zone:

  • going through a zone transition (portal to another zone)
  • using a waypoint to another zone
  • using an asura gate
  • entering a personal story instance
  • leaving a personal story instance
  • logging out (or going back to the character select screen) then logging back in

I may have missed some. Using a waypoint in the same zone (even if you get a loading screen) does not count and will not trigger the bug. The food buff will stay when you do all of the actions listed above. If you have both Nourishment buffs, the potion buff will disappear everytime while the food buff will stay.

This bug has been in the game since betas and I will keep posting it until it gets fixed.

Switching to Air attunement while having target selected activates auto-attack. It is very annoying especially when are you trying to run away from mobs, switch to air attunement, character starts attacking the mobs, you are slowed – in combat.

Please fix this already.

Thanks,
Looria

I don’t think that is a bug, when you switch to air attunement Electric Discharge traits activates assuming you put more than 15 points into air attunement. If you did put 15 points into it, then it is not bugged and you need to read your traits.

This is a bug and it’s well documented in the post over here. Feel free to check it out and add your insights.

AC explore final boss missing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

My guildies and I ran AC explorable 3 or 4 times. We ran Colossus Rumblus once and Ghost Eater 3 times I think. We’ve only reached the end of the dungeon for Ghost Eater. The first 2 times we didn’t get any where for various reasons (people had to leave). The last 2 times we ran the Ghost Eater route. The final boss didn’t spawn for us on either of the runs.

For the first run, we actually ran into a slightly different bug. Our first run was littered with deaths and we wiped in the Flooded Temple area a few times when we had to defend Detha while she gathered bait. Each time we wiped, we had to come back and clean up the spawns from the previous attempt before we could try again (not sure if this is intended or not). After the 2nd or 3rd wiped, our group came back and proceeded to clear the area again. The boss was also here (from the previous attempt). When we killed him, the chest spawned and Detha acted as if we’d completed the area properly and told us to move on. We were surprised, but proceeded anyway. When we got to the Hall of Champions, we ran into the situation the OP described. We found a bunch of broken mortars and no spawns or the Patriarch.

For the second run, we had far fewer deaths and only wipped once at the Flooded Temple. When we tried the temple part again, it was CLEAR of mobs from the previous spawn. We completed this part without much difficulty and proceeded. Ran into the exact same issue at the Hall of Champions with nothing spawning.

We’ve since stopped running AC explorable mode (it’s been about a weekish now) because we’re waiting for these issues to be resolved first. There doesn’t seem to be many issues with Story Mode dungeons now and we’ve ran a few of those since.

Server: Sorrow’s Furnace.

Edit: We’ve tried killing and reviving Detha, having people rezone into the dungeon. These didn’t work.

Map Completion and WvWvW...why force PVP on us to complete PVE?

If you want to get technical about it and delve into the lore, WvW and sPvP actually take place in the Mists. The Mists is the fabric that binds worlds together through space and time. It’s every bit a part of the world as the rest of the “world map”. Even more so in ways.

[Elementalist] Inconsistent skill behaviour relating to auto targeting/attacking

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I am using a staff. (F3) Air attunement give me a speed boon thanks to my mastery. But switching attunement to air cause my auto-attacking to start, attacking: red, yellow and even white monsters.

I actually have a separate thread dedicated to the attunement bug over here. I should have specified that this is specifically about issues with skills and auto-targeting.

Thanks for posting though. Feel free to add anything else you may think of.

Inconsistent skill behaviour with regards to auto-targeting/attacking
Magnetic Aura & Glyph of Renewal: Causes your character to auto-attack/target. Other purely defensive/utility based skills do not cause auto-attacking.

Frozen Burst, Ring of Fire, Ring of Earth, Arcane Wave (all PBAOEs) have different targeting behaviours: Some cause your character to auto-attack, others do not.

Thread is over here.

[Elementalist] Inconsistent skill behaviour relating to auto targeting/attacking

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Razgriz.7319

I’ve noticed various inconsistencies with elementalist skills. This topic generally pertains to how the skill behaves with auto-targeting and the auto-attacking skill (default skill-1).

This was all tested in the Mists, with auto-targeting off and a target manually locked (the Golems). The skills will exhibit the behaviours described below with auto-targeting on as well, as long as auto-targeting is able to pick out a target for you.

Defensive/Utility skills

  • Magnetic Aura (Staff earth-3): Will cause your auto-attacking skill to start flashing after you use it.
  • Glyph of Renewal (Slot skill): Will cause your auto-attack to start after you finish casting it.
  • Arcane Shield (Slot skill): Will not cause your auto-attack to start.
  • Cleansing Wave (Dagger water-5): Will not trigger your auto-attack.

The rest of the defensive/utility based skills also do not trigger your auto-attack. I believe these skills should not trigger auto-attacking-targeting. You use these skills in a defensive manner, without the intent of attacking (usually).

Point-blank AOEs

  • Arcane Wave (Slot skill): Will trigger auto-attacking.
  • Frozen Burst (Dagger water-3): Will trigger auto-attacking.
  • Ring of Fire (Dagger fire-4): Will not trigger auto-attacking.
  • Ring of Earth (Dagger earth-2): Will not trigger auto-attacking.

In my opinion, these should trigger auto-attacking/targeting. When you use these skills, you signal your intent on attacking, triggering auto-attacking will help with this.

If you notice anything else I’ve missed regarding inconsistent behaviour of skills relating to auto-targeting/attacking, please post about it here.

[Elementalist] Swapping into Air attunement causes character to auto attack nearest mob

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Razgriz.7319

I remembered what else I wanted to mention. It might be a bit redundant now, but I’ll post it anyway, to rule out a possible cause.

I tested out the keybinds with a secondary set of bindings (by secondary, I mean in the second column of the keybinds section). Bug still happens with air attunement using either my primary binds, or the new secondary ones.
