Sick of condi builds when roaming

Redball.7236

Imo nothing drastic needs to be done, just small changes and see where the meta settles after it.

First step is bringing down the +/- condi duration foods to a respectable amount, 40% is just ridiculous, when you consider other foods give at most +20% to a single condition it seems like a serious oversight.

The food should be brought down to +10%/-10% imo.

Suggestion: Favorite builds button

in PvP

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

I won’t touch on sPvP (due to the nature of how gear works there it would obviously need to use a different system) since WvW/PvE are my main game modes, but here is how I’d like to see it work.

It would be split into two different systems, one for traits, and one for gear.

The traits system would work similar to as what you’d expect from GW1, your selected traits would form a special “string-code” that can be easily copied to your friend or saved so you can load different trait setups whenever you wish, this would be a far superior option to what we have currently.

The reason why I would only have traits, and not gear tied to this code is because of the sheer complexity that comes in when including gear sets. If I want to share my build with a friend, with a trait-only code he can get the specific traits at the click of a button, however chances are he’s not going to have the same exotic gear available, even is he has the same stats it might be from a difference source so it’s not the same “item” in game terms. Runes and sigils add in to this problem even more.

Instead, gear would be saved seperately into loadouts, these aren’t shareable and are just part of the character interface, you would be allowed to save your current gear loadout as a preset (WoW is a great example of this idea in action), and then this preset can be swapped to at the click of a button as long as all the items are available to equip in your inventory.

If some of the items are not present, an informative message could be displayed telling the user that some parts (maybe even which parts) are missing.

This would save a huge amount of time when swapping gear, you’d be able to quickly swap entire armor sets at the click of a button rather than manually doing it yourself. There could even be special customisable hotkeys added to swap between sets (think of in GW1 being able to quickly swap weapons with F1/F2/F3/F4)

Clearly, these systems are only applicable for PvE/WvW, as with the PvP build interface you could easily use codes to transfer the entire build (stats and everything) in one go.

There’s also room for potential expansion in future to allow people to save/load certain dye setups and such. That said, I imagine quite a lot of players would be happier to have the basics in as soon as possible rather than delayed due to trying to cover every possible aspect immediately.

+10% damage food while moving

in Thief

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

Let’s say you pair it with Runes of the eagle, which gives you +6% permanent damage, and executioner, you deal +20% damage while the enemy is under 50% health.

That’s a 36% constant increase in damage.

Just so you know, Damge modifiers don’t work like that. You would get about 27% once they reach <50% HP.

What, both wrong. Damage modifiers stack multiplicatively.

10% from food (1.1)
6% from rune (1.06)
20% from trait (1.2)

1.1*1.06*1.2 = 1.3992

+39.92%

You will only be able to use the skin, not the stats

People don’t care about the stats we all made legendarys when they were exotics with not stat swapping it’s destroying the whole meaning of legendarys and the roll in endgame.

How is it destroying the whole meaning at all, it still requires an incredibly large amount of effort to make just one legendary.

Probably less than 1% of the playerbase actually has one and even less have duplicate, probably 0.1% of the players that even have a legendary.

Stop being selfish and trying to make other people suffer.

I’m sure Anet can find a solution that pleases both sides.

I certainly understand that people with two of the same legendary want some form of compensation.

But please, do not ruin it for the rest of us, this is one of the best updates in a long time. A legendary is an account achievement, it should not be permanently locked to one character (and no paying 300 gems whenever you want to swap it is not reasonable).

The best way for Anet to handle this I believe is to unbind any duplicate legendaries and allow them to be sold, the price will drop the first day yes, but if you hold out you can eventually sell it for it’s normal price.

Pls explain how wvw matchup algorithms work

in WvW

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

Very simplified explanation, it doesn’t work exactly like this but this is the general idea;

Each server has a rating, this rating is adjusted at the end of the week based on the scores.

AG’s rating at the end of last week was 1 646.905.

When a new matchup is decided, a deviance is decided by a random roll, this ensures that matchups stay fresh and same servers don’t continously fight each other, the deviance is randomly determined and can be within a set range of values (e.g -100 to +100 (the way it’s calculated is a somewhat complex formula, check the blog post at the bottom). This is then added to the server rating.

Once this deviance is applied, the servers are then matched accordingly, from rank 1-24. They are split into groups of 3 as you head down the list (sorted by the rating in descending order once deviance has been added). The server with the highest rating is green for that matchup, the server with the middle rating is blue, and the server with lowest rating is red.

In the case of this AG/VS/FS matchup, AG and FS have rolled extremely high positive deviances (close to +100), while VS has rolled an extremely high negative deviance (close to -100), bringing the ratings of these servers next to each other. The chance of such a matchup is quite low, but still possible.

Redball.7236

I honestly think at this point the majority of UW’s community should just move, it might make Anet realize there actually is a serious population problem and consider some server merges.

You get the benefit of not being on a dead server, and after all there’s hardly any server pride left since much of what made the old UW community has already gone.

As a side note people really should stop acting as if their opinion represents a whole server, or making decisions for the server without consulting others, it’s downright rude.

Mistforged Hero Weapons

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

Buy the non-Mistforged weapons for 100 tickets and upgrade them with the recipe they’re giving you. It’s one non-Mistforged weapon, 4 Wines, 250 Badges of Honor (which you’ll be getting in spades if you participate in the tournament), and 10 Crystalline Dust.

That way even the lowest ranking server can have people get at least 2 weapons.

Incorrect.
It’s one non-Mistforged weapon, 4 Wines, Gift of Heroes , and 10 Crystalline Dust.
Gift of Heroes costs 200 tickets and 250 badges.

The purpose of this is to allow people that don’t receive 300 tickets this time, to buy one or more Hero’s Weapons, then upgrade them during the second tournament.

I can confirm they have been looking into this for over a year, and commented as such, with zero movement, adjustments, or progress on the matter.

The server load can’t stand the strain of 25 extra bleeds in a PVE dungeon limited to 5 people, but it has no problem handling 25 bleeds per person in a 50 v 50 engagment in WvW.

So logical.

They don’t you know, have a separate server for every single instance someone opens. There’s probably 100 5-man instances on one server, and then one server for a WvW map.

There isn’t an endless supply of warriors from the mist.
In lore presumably the only people that can leave the mists are the ones who entered themselves (such as players through the LA portals).

From the wiki “The Mists is the oldest thing in existence, constituting the fabric of time and space that connects the multiverse together. The Mists is the proto-reality that exists between the worlds which in turn are the building blocks of reality. The Mists resonate from the worlds around them, forming bits of their own reality – islands of existence that reflect the histories of their worlds.”

The mists are also supposedly the place that all races go to after they die. Except in exceptional circumstances, there is no way for them to return.

From this you can almost get the idea that each of our “servers” in-game are their own world, and so we meet up and fight each other within the mists to defend our world.

In lore, there isn’t an infinite number of allies that could come from the mists, nor could you enter at one place and leave at another, as the only entrance/exit in lore is in LA.

All NA servers are very high pop?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

No idea if this is correct, but what I think is that it’s a representation of how many accounts are on that server (active or not), as well as anyone currently GUESTED to that server. This would explain the fluctuation overnight on servers like blackgate (no one guesting that late).

Current population doesn’t make that much sense really since the overflow system means that it doesn’t really make sense for a server to be full (since it could just send people to overflow?).

Plus when blackgate is full, it doesn’t stop anyone who is native from that server from logging in, think WoW, if a server is full there you’ll literally be put into queue before you can log on.

What I found was that there are a great many pugs who run zerk gear and something close to a meta spec, but who aren’t in dungeon guilds. Instead, they’re in PvP or WvW or RP or casual PvX guilds. Some of them liked their current guilds and just wanted to be part of a group with other zerk meta players for dungeons, then go back to PvP/WvW with their current guilds.

Sounds pretty much like me but sadly I’m EU. I do have an NA account but it would just be unrealistic for me as you do dungeon tours at midnight-3AM my time and obviously I couldn’t use TS that late.

Legendaries in the account skin locker?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

Legendaries are pretty much an account achievement when you make one, so why do they soulbind on equip?

You can move them already with the transmutation trick, but wouldn’t it be nicer if once you made one, you could get it on ALL your characters.

So why not add it to the account skin locker that we already have?

It would still be able to be sold at first, the way I see it is after you make it in the forge, it appears as a trade-able one-time use item that adds the skin to your account locker permanently, at which point you can withdraw as many as you like and use on any of your characters.

For anyone that has two of the same legendary at the moment (probably quite a small minority), you could have one of them turned into the tradeable format allowing you to sell it.

FYI: - How EOTM works.

in WvW

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

For anyone who’s wondering exactly how matchups work in EOTM and how it might affect the populator of lower tier servers, here’s a quote from Devon from the beta forums (inaccessible now).

Greetings,

January 9th was the end of our public testing of the new Edge of the Mists Map. This was our first time inviting people to play a portion of our game in active development and without NDA restrictions. The people playing the map and providing their feedback helped us make several important decisions while allowing us to test the new content in as close to a live environment as possible. It is not an exaggeration to say we couldn’t have brought the map to the quality level it has reached without their help! To pull out a specific example, our original plan was for each matchup to have its own version of the new map. As we tested out the map with various numbers of players and spoke with the members of the test, it became clear to us that the ideal approach was to group all of the NA players into one group and all EU players into another: meaning that all NA blue worlds will fight side-by-side with each other on the blue Edge of the Mists team. These kinds of decisions, and others, were ones we couldn’t have come to without getting the map in front of the large number of players that we saw over the course of the test, and without your feedback on the official forum! When the Edge of the Mists does release, I hope everyone here is as excited to play a map that your fellow WvW players helped create as we are.
Cheers,

Devon Carver

Important bit -> ideal approach was to group all of the NA players into one group and all EU players into another: meaning that all NA blue worlds will fight side-by-side with each other on the blue Edge of the Mists team.

After doing some of the math myself, I noticed you missed a few things, firstly 30/25/0/0/15 can keep up about 10 vuln (axe 2 and mace 4), not 3.

Secondly if you swap to rifle in your build you get stuck with a pretty kitten terrible autoattack for the duration that you’re using it for, compared to 30/25/0/0/15 which is either autoattacking with axe or 100b with greatsword + rush and whirlwind.

The questions that concern me though, what about low pop servers that don’t hit a que? Will they never be able to see that map? What happens if people enjoy that map/play more than they do the WvW maps. Will the WvW maps then become less filled?

When you enter EOTM, you’re assigned to one of three servers depending on your colour. That means you’ll be paired up with all the people in other matches that are “Red” that week for example.

This means that there won’t ever really be a population issue since you’ll be playing with and against people from all the other servers in your region (EU can’t fight NA).

old 30 10 0 0 30 still best dps build ?

in Warrior

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

Svetli is correct. The best dps build is still 30-10-0-0-30.

Using the 30-25-0-0-15 build achieves only a stable 3 vulnerability at maximum (0.33*100%*1 att/second), with 5 stable might from the GS trait, 3 average might from the Elite, 3 average might from FGJ and 6 might from sigil of battle summing to 17 might, 3 vulnerability without additional support, 97% critrate, 119% critdmg with the banner and 1.48x damage in greatsword mode, 1.43x damage in axe mode, with 2496 power to use. Add 0.10x if your godly player can remain above 90% hp indefinitely.

Sustained dps = 5 mult / 3.6 s * 1.43x * 2.64 * 1000 att * 3091 pwr *1.03 / 2600 def = 6420 dps.

Even if I were to assume that your user is insanely skilled and can truly remain at 90+% hp for the whole fight, raising your multiplier to 1.53x still gives you only 6869.5 dps.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAU3XjkOBvFPaPMxBAzjhCqoTBoUPszt2A-jkCBYfERzEEQUBDZOzsIaslhFRjVXDT5iIq2uDwaWRzgO1SBExwK-w

30-10-0-0-30 in full berserker achieves a stable 19 vulnerability (9.6 from Brutal Shot, 10.1 from Cyclone Axe), 2.3 might from the weaponswap trait, 3.6 might from the elite for a total of 6 stable might without additional support. It also has 96% critrate, 142% critdmg when bannered, 1.28x damage in axe mode, 1.23x damage in rifle mode and 2798 power at its disposal.

Sustained dps = 5 mult / 3.6 s * 1.28x * 2.84 crit * 1000 att * 3008 pwr * 1.19 / 2600 def = 6951 dps.

6951 > 6869.5, even considering that your ‘perfect activation conditions’ are exponentially more difficult to achieve than in my build, considering autoattacks only.

Furthermore, because this build has >100% fury uptime – every 48 seconds, it can trigger 35 seconds fury per target plus 34.5 seconds fury with the signet for anything from 69.5 to 139.5 seconds depending on how many targets Axe 4 hits. That’s a 145-290% fury uptime. Whereas the 30-25-0-0-15 build only has 46 seconds of fury every 50 seconds. which is only 92% uptime.

This means Eviscerate can be spammed a lot on the 30-10-0-0-30 giving actually much higher DPS than autoattacks can predict as the ridiculous uptime on Fury means the signet doesn’t necessarily have to be used off cooldown every single time – while the 30-25-0-0-15 is forced to use FGJ and SoR off cooldown. Eviscerate usage also recharges endurance – combining the greater endurance regen from this plus SoS. D.S adds more base toughness. My build also runs at permanent 25% speed whereas yours is entirely dependent on SoR’s swiftness (62.5% uptime or average 20.6% speed – which is less than 25%) and the greatsword mobility skills. The inclusion of Kill Shot plus SoM (taking the place of the banner in solo applications) allows for this build to ohko more than half of all players in WvW, undetected from 1500 range. Finally, the 30-25-0-0-15 build linked doesn’t even have a stun breaker or condition removal skill, let alone Stability. Taking that into some situations is a complete death wish.

The only practical benefit 30-25-0-0-15 has over 30-10-0-0-30 is Mace 5’s knockdown ability.

Tl;dr: 30-25-0-0-15 does less damage per second, has less dodges, bursts for less, has no stunbreak, no stability, no condition cleanse, less defense, less dodge, has a much lower maximum effective range, and has no stable movement speed buff relative to 30-10-0-0-30. To compensate for all of this, it has a single AoE launch skill it can use on a 25 second cooldown.

I find the lack of optimisation – indeed, the lack of proper calculations – disturbing.

In parties, where eles can maintain 25 might on their own for a whole party, where guardians also buff might AoE…. and no other class in existence can match the Warrior’s ability to inflict Vulnerability… the gap just stretches wider and wider.

“Proper calculations” – I’m not even sure where to start with your math, you’re adding damage modifiers additively and not multiplicatively, what?

You don’t need to work out the actual DPS, effective power is a good enough way to compare two builds.

Oh right nevermind, I just noticed you mentioned WvW which means it’s not even relevant to the topic at hand, I’m 99% sure that the OP is referring to a PvE build.

Like anyone would ever use a rifle in PvE, that stuff would get you kicked in a heartbeat.

I don’t see a problem with champion trains in itself, it’s probably not the fastest way to earn gold anyway, it’s just fairly easy.

The problem with it imo is that its in a start zone, and probably the most popular starter zone, I dread to think what some new players must think when they see the train during their first hour of gameplay.

It should really be moved to some other non-starter zone.

Do you play mesmer? fyi, clone-death builds dont shatter. illusions disappear at a certain distance, around 1700 range.

ohhh I remember, you’re the guy that uses DE on a full phantasm build.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

I thought it was pretty obvious what I meant by that, it’s still a valid argument regardless if the terminology is wrong. Thief caltrops need the target to be underneath, a mesmer clone can die up to “1700” range from the mesmer and apply those conditions.

Before we all start asking for a nerf to any of the Mesmer ‘on-dodge’ traits (DE + clone death) by making them uniquely blockable or whatever we must find out if they are really overpowered in the first place.

You need to find out how much something is before stating it’s too much.
Sorry to sound like a broken record, I’m really more reminding the devs than anyone else.

So I did a simple side by side comparison between Mesmer & Thief using only ‘on-dodge’ traits (Deceptive Evasion & Caltrops) and only dodging to kill a moving target golem.

Mesmer: About 3-5 stacks of bleed 100% up-time (90% from auto-attacking clones). Very rarely a few seconds of Cripple,Vulnerability or Weakness.

Thief : 4 stacks of bleed 100% up-time. 45+ seconds of cripple.
also 2-4 stacks of might gained as well as swiftness and endurance regeneration

If anyone can seriously look at those two examples and arrive at the conclusion that the Mesmer is in need of having their ‘on-dodge’ traits nerfed in any way for the sake of balance…then I just don’t know what else to say.

This is not a valid comparison, mesmer can dodge to shatter a clone that is far away from them to cause conditions to a target. A thief would need to be on top of the target in melee range.

Not to mention that the caltrops a thief drops pulse every second and are easily walked out of, compared to a mesmer clone death which applies all the conditions at once.

They most likely refer to “cheesing” game play as using DE to kill clones, in turn, procing the on death traits.

But instead of toning down the death traits, they nerf DE.

That’s because in that specific example, the problem is DE.
To validate this, spec a spec without DE, use on-death traits, and utilize them, including overwriting at 3 clones to proc on-death traits. Then compare the same again without those traits.

I used to have that (no DE but on-death-traits), and really, if it’s anything it’s underpowered.

It only becomes an issue when you add DE to the mix. Even when it comes to full-clones-overwriting.

You seem to be making this odd assumption that the devs are making this change for some coherent balance reason. I’d argue that you’re entirely wrong in that.

From everything that we’ve seen, the dev team doesn’t have the first clue of how to balance. This is shown by their total lack of progress since the beginning of the game. The current meta can only be positively described as ‘better than the condition meta’, but it’s absolutely worse than what came before that. This means that the balance team has not learned anything from their mistakes, they haven’t improved.

Now, if you look at the living world releases, they have improved immensely. Each release comes with more interesting mechanics, a better storyline, and so you can generally see a very definite amount of progress with each new release. WvW also has been progressing, with incoming account bound ranks, new map structures, EoTM, and generally better matchmaking.

Now, not only have the devs shown themselves to be incompetent from a balance perspective, but they’ve also shown themselves to be incompetent from a coding and QA perspective. How many Mesmer skills have they broken? How many are still broken? How long did it take them to fix the skills? I’m sure you can answer those questions yourself.

Now, on top of all that, they repeatedly show a distinct lack of understanding about the classes in this game and how they function, particularly Mesmer, but definitely not limited to. This comes from both a factual basis (Jon Peters not knowing clones can overwrite phantasms) and a more conceptual basis where none of the devs were able to articulate in any way approaching clear or concise the background or reasons for the DE change. Their changes more often feel like changes for the sake of changing, disregarding the actual effects that those changes will have.

Overall
I can absolutely draw the conclusion that the balance dev team is completely incompetent and has no idea what they’re doing. They deserve no benefit of the doubt. They deserve to be questioned and pressured at every turn on every questionable change they make, because past events say that they are not acting in a way that best serves this game.

This is what’s called being non-constructive and it’s why the devs will never post in these forums.

Eh, I like this change, I can use DE in my PvE build now for a bit of defense and distraction whereas before it would mean if I dodged with 3 phantasms out I was effectively cutting my DPS massively.

What? You have DE on a phantasm build?

pls link your OP build, I’ll try it.

/sarcasm

There’s no need to be condescending.

I run 10/20/0/25/15, and being able to swap the master tier trait from IV to X does help in open-world pve and dealing with trash in dungeons sometimes, as the dodge clones can provide some temporary distractions.

I’m pretty sure nowhere in what I said did I say that a balance dev would never have played that class before.

The person playing the thief in that livestream is not on the balance team.

Why ARENA net WHY??? Why do you listen to these terrible players?

Just because Devs are terrible players too

Should watch the “Fractured” preview gameplay, where the dev died over and over and over on his p/p thief. Granted he was ridiculous for using nothing but p/p to begin with but… it was laughable. Even his buddy behind him was laughing.

Would like to point out that dev playing that thief wasn’t necessarily a balance dev, and has no obligation to even play the game even if he is designing the content. I’d imagine some of the people that work at Anet aren’t particularly good at the game because they don’t play much in their spare time.

Also throw in the fact it was a test account on a test server (not live), which means it’s not his actual character and likely pre-made by someone else and everything already selected. The guy might be playing a class he’s never played before.

Celestial Gear, Discuss!(WvW)

Redball.7236

This calculator you linked has lots of minor bugs, it does not even know that celestial backpiece exists for example.
I’ve fiddled around with it, but calculations were really screwed hard due to the fact that I couldn’t include stacked WvW bonuses and sigil(something that without a doubt takes place in WvW, and something that WITHOUT A DOUBT provides further specialization which, in my opinion, is sufficient enough.). Not to mention effective stats never cared to include healing and condition damage, which is kind of ridiculous, making it look like healing power is worth nothing while in fact it’s worth more point for point than vitality.
Very obvious that anything that includes healing power and condition damage will pale in comparison. Because this monster of a calculator doesn’t include them in it’s “effective damage” “effective survivability” calculations.
And the moment you start combing up clerics, berserker, valkyrie and soldier’s on your trinkets, you’ve just lost flat out to celestial, admitting that you still want 6 stats even when you already have full celestial armor set packed up.

That site does lack a few things due to not being updated all that frequently, but you can use the Manual section to add buffs like 250 power from stacks manually.

Best second sigil?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Redball.7236

Redball.7236

@ roach: Sigils won’t stack anymore after the upcoming balance changes..
So 2 Stat Boosters of the same type won’t give you anymore with 1 kill 2 points.
They will give you soon only just 1 Point. So everybody who uses currently a weapon with 2 stat boosters of the same type, will be able to change one of them for an other sigil.

They didn’t say this either, nothing in the livestream suggested that you wouldn’t be able to use two of the same stacking sigil to stack faster.
