Bug Fix:
We have temporarily disabled catapults in World vs. World due to a server crash bug.
We will re-enable catapults when we have corrected the error.
A message from Mike O’Brien:
This morning we experienced a power failure at our European datacenter, and unfortunately it knocked out some of our equipment. We’re currently rebuilding. In the meantime, accounts that connect to European worlds are unable to login. Some North American accounts with ties to the European account database are also unable to login.
We’re working on restoring networking equipment. Once we do, we’ll know whether we can safely bring up databases and game servers. At this time we don’t have an estimated time to restore service.
Today is release day. We’re going to go ahead and post the release, although much of the world won’t be able to access it until service is restored. I know that’s far from ideal. But we have only three days left to prepare for the demo, and with that schedule, it’s important that we get the release out today so we have time to deal with any issues that arise. I appreciate your understanding.

Thanks for stopping by to give feedback ask questions!
The formal Q&A / feedback session is over, but as always the team will continue to read your feedback related to the latest update, so feel free to create separate threads with your thoughts.
We were promised a thread to talk to the Devs. Where is it?
It’s right here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Official-Skill-Balance-Thread-22-February-Update
Several members of the ArenaNet Skills and Balance Team will be reviewing this thread for your feedback and your questions about today’s changes, including Karl McLain, Robert Gee, Irenio Calmon-Huang, and Isaiah Cartwright. Team members will be active in this thread for an hour or two, but will continue to read the thread over the next several days, particularly as you’ve had a chance to play using the newly-balanced skills. Thank you for sharing your input!

Due to a bug that affected spawn rate, we have temporarily disabled a few of the creatures in the Mursaat Fortress.
Players will still be able to complete events in this area.
We are investigating the issue and we will re-activate the creatures as soon as we have a fix.
Thanks for your patience and understanding while we work to correct this issue.

For those who are having technical issues, please let us know what ISP you are using and please run this command from the cmd prompt: pathping -4 -q 100 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
It is fixed and the game has been updated with the fix. However, Raid Wing 3 will not reopen until everyone has left the old game build. We won’t be able to reopen access until this happens because then we’ve have groups of players who have updated and have the fix, and groups of players who haven’t updated and are still seeing the bug.
LIVING WORLD
The first episode of Living World Season 3, Out of the Shadows, is now available for those who have purchased Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns ™. Please review our FAQ for details on how to unlock episodes for free.
Out of the Shadows
Following the death of Mordremoth, Tyria finds itself in a never-before-seen heightened state of excess magic. This bounty of power causes an old nemesis to resurface, with a devastating result. Can the heroes stem the enemy’s tide, or will Tyria be consumed by this returned threat?
FRACTALS
New Fractal – Chaos Isles
Dessa’s krewe isn’t sure if this is cataclysmic or some sort of cycle, but it’s super exciting! A new fractal of particularly unique readings has appeared, and the krewe has selected you and your allies as the “explorers” who get to venture into this strange new place.
Fractal Revamps
Like Cliffside, both the Swampland and Snowblind fractals have been revamped to improve pacing, scaling, and overall enjoyment.
Swampland
Swampland was not a particularly long or arduous fractal, but the boss fights were lackluster, and in Bloomhunger’s case, far too easy. The change to this fractal was centered around turning Swampland into a proper boss fractal.
Snowblind
In the Snowblind fractal, there were several pain points that we wanted to address. The intro event was quite simple and boring, the Elemental Source event was frustrating due to a huge health pool and the sheer number of knockbacks, and the final boss fight was tedious yet easy.

Anguished Tears of Alba
The Anguished Tears of Alba was a potion that applied 10 nonstacking agony resistance for a short time. It was not a particularly useful potion, as it required a mastery and did not stack. Now it no longer requires a mastery and will stack with all other sources of agony resistance.

Fractal Selection UI
The fractal selection UI for the Fractals of the Mists has been overhauled to be more informative and user friendly.
INFUSIONS AND INFUSION SLOTS
With the Infusion system being unnecessarily complex for what it does, we’ve taken steps to simplify how infusions work and make acquiring them far more straightforward.
First off, we removed most of the restrictions on which kind of infusion you can place into each kind of equipment. For balance reasons, we had to keep utility infusions and amulets separate, but all other types of infusions can now be slotted into any kind of ascended equipment.

On Sunday, May 15, there will be a delay in receiving e-mail confirmation receipts due to scheduled maintenance with our billing provider. Purchases can still be placed and completed during this time window. This affects buy.guildwars2.com and store.guildwars.com purchases. There is no impact on the in-game Black Lion Trading Company.

While I know I’m necrorising this thread, I think the suggestion appears often enough to have a good represetnative discussion in the front of the forums.
(I have found at least another 6 less interesting threads covering this subject, and people also ask periodically for emotes in all the “new ideas”, “new gemstore items” and “missing stuff” ones). What I would like to discuss today is this quote from Regina B, taken from the “dev Quotes from Reddit” thread.
Regina BGimmeSylvari…
Also, seeing that the animators do such a great job in GW2, why can’t we get more emotes ? (Could even be a gemstore thing, as long as it’s not a book thingie that we have to take everywhere, but something that unlocks new emote commands instead ?)…
Resources and priority comes up with animation and emotes as well. Yes, we can technically create new emotes, but they need to be prioritized over other needs. Do new player emotes take priority over animation for creatures in (as an example) the next raid? If game directors believe that this is a good use of our limited resources, then then this would be prioritized and resources would be allocated accordingly. It would be awesome to have new player-character emotes, but we don’t have unlimited animators, and they may have other other priorities that supersede the desire for new emotes.I would like to answer the hypotetical question from Regina.
YES.
I do think player emotes should take priority over raid animations, for the simple reason that the new emotes will add to the experience of every GW2 player, while raids only affect a group. Emotes also would aid RPs, another group integral to the community, one who ahvent seen any support since a loooong time.I’m not saying raids are bad. I like them, and I think they add a new aspect to the game that is needed. But I think they should NOT exist at the expense of other much simpler, open to all and fun content.
I also understand Regina is just saying this as an example. But I think the example sounds too specific and real to ignore. I think a relevant company like Anet should be able to split resources for areas so different, but if I’m forced to choose between Emotes and Raids, I DO prefer emotes.
What do you think?
It is just an example. Seriously. You may think what you wish about it, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s an example I literally came up with on the spot to try and demonstrate the kind of resource and prioritization discussions that happen in game development. There is no active internal zero-sum discussion regarding this specific request for new emotes vs. animation for raid creatures. Please don’t spin this into something that it isn’t.
A lot of players ask us, “Can you please add this thing?” not understanding that trade-offs need to be made in order to make that thing happen, including making decisions about what we won’t be able to do, if we did a thing. The benefits you gave regarding new emotes are solid and great reasons to have new emotes. But please keep in mind that we have limited resources and need to prioritize them and allocate those resources. Who sets the priorities and allocates the resources accordingly? That happens at a level way above me.

We’ve completed the maintenance. There are a few smaller issues that the team will investigate tomorrow morning, however most players should be able to get in as of this moment. If this isn’t the case for you, please let us know.

Sword Art Online: They can’t log out.
Guild Wars 2: We can’t log in.
But in all seriousness, would absolutely love feedback on this. So far nothing on the forums (on what works at least) and nothing on the facebook page. Kinda disappointed in paying so much money on the expansion pack for broken content.
We do not post maintenance updates or that type of messaging on Facebook because Facebook severely limits how many people we are able to reach on that platform. We have been posting updates both on the forums and Twitter, per our usual procedure.
Again we apologize for the down time. Our team has been working diligently on the issues.
As of this moment, we’re looking at the game coming back online in about an hour. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
Last dev response:We will bring the servers down for maintenance in 20 minutes. Estimated downtime will be 30 minutes. Thank you for your patience.
Current Status:
Servers have been down for 28 of the estimated 30 minutes needed to perform the maintenance.
Sometimes things may take longer than estimated. Thank you once again for your understanding and patience.

Every time I start make progress in HoT something else gets broke. My main character is still stuck on the first mission. Almost a week and two tickets later but still no fixes… Why?
This has been by far the worst xpac experience I ever had by far.
This must be the only xpac experience you’ve ever had if you’re upset about bugs in the first two weeks.
I have been playing mmos for 10 years
I have never had an experience in an expansion in which I tried to do the first mission on 4 seperate characters until I could get one to not bug out. For the first day I had 3 characters locked out of progress.
I have the right to my opinion.. and that is that this is the worst experience I have ever had with an xpac release of a game.
So then you never played Everquest where characters were dead locked on loading screens on 3-4 separate expansion releases for WEEKS?! What about when they merged servers and characters went Poof!
This is FAR from the worse release to date of any MMO (been playing since 1999 when Everquest was released)
The situation here has been as smooth as butter compared to some other recent launches. I also play Wildstar and the f2p launch there had major issues, on par with this issue – but lasting for more than a week.
Near as I can tell this issue is the first major issue of this expansion. Minor issues have affected some players, and it looks like I’m quoting one such player, but this is the first issue affecting a large number all at once.
As for people asking for ETAs… You can usually ask your car mechanic how long it will take to change out an engine part. All the variables are probably known and anything discovered could even be estimated.
But this is software… and the first task is finding out what went wrong – which can NEVER be estimated. The actual fix can be, but only once the problem is known. And then there is testing the fix – which can also be estimated, but also adds time. Debugging though – finding out what the problem – by its very nature is an unknown, or there wouldn’t be a problem.
Thank you for your understanding.
All I can say at this point is that our devs are still hard at work on this issue.
I think they are kind of busy fixing the problem.
Those fixing the problem would need to stop fixing the problem in order to tell someone not fixing the problem what the status of fixing the problem is so this person can then relay the status of fixing the problem to the people here asking for the status of the problem being fixed.Basically, patience. The world will un-end soon.
Pretty much this. We’ll let you know status as soon as we are able to do so. We’re still investigating a fix.

It’s not up to me on whether there will be more videos. Having said that, feedback about how you feel about what you’ve seen is helpful to us.
Update (in case you haven’t already seen it): BWE3 will be extended until Noon Pacific today, October 5. Raids will be available as well.
Hey everyone, I have an update regarding the availability of raids.
Due to the issues we experienced yesterday with the Enhance Squad UI and with further internal discussion, we have made the very difficult decision to keep raids turned off for the remainder of the beta weekend.
We are continuing to investigate the issues and also looking into options that would allow us to get more testing on these features before we release.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.
For discussion on this, please head over to the existing forum thread in the Fractals, Dungeons & Raids sub-forum.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you guys for doing this. Please don’t pay attention to how toxic twitch chat can be. I really enjoyed all the silly moments and really appreciated everyone’s time and effort that was put into this.
Super glad you all enjoyed the TwitchCon stream. The Marketing Team and my team (which is part of Marketing) in particular did a lot of the content planning, logistics, organization, and execution of the event. It’s gratifying that people enjoyed it.
We definitely paid attention to Twitch chat. I, Stephane Lo Presti, and Anatoli Ingram were all personally moderating Twitch chat on the Guild Wars 2 channel during TwitchCon. We were there to ensure the environment is as constructive and welcoming as possible to everyone, and the only way we can do that is to keep an eye on chat and time out and ban people who are behaving badly. We’re happy to do this though.
We have some of the recorded livestreams from TwitchCon on our YouTube channel:

Hey all,
I would just like to thank the devs for this amazing 2 day livestream experience they set up for us at twitchcon. I toroughly enjoyed every minute of it, from the musical performances (can we have those more often for like 1 song on guildchat or smth?) to the information about heart of thornes, to the goofy segments to break up everything.
You guys made so much effort into entertaining us, and i appreciate it!I also wanna say, i fully support the direction this game is taking, and i liked everything anounced at this conference (well maybe except the buffing staying at 5 for raids, but that’s minor), i can’t wait to play the expansion, or to get my kitten kicked next week when we try out the raids (plz make it kick my kitten plz :p).
I’ve supported you guys since GW1 and i’ve not been let down ever since, keep up the awesome work!
I’m really glad you enjoyed the TwitchCon content!
We tried a few creative/experimental things that we haven’t done before. I understand that some of the segments were not to everyone’s taste. I hope that people found at least one or two things they enjoyed from what we aired during TwitchCon.
I can’t make any promises as far as future content for Guild Chat, but thank you for sharing your feelings about what you saw during TwitchCon. Knowing what fans liked and disliked will help us plan content in the future for our livestreams.
Glad you enjoyed yourself at TwitchCon! Our team worked their butts off on this event.
Sorry I didn’t get to meet you. Me and several others were holed up in the production room for the entirety of the event to manage the livestream and unfortunately some of us didn’t get face time with fans.
