The best pistol in my opinion is ‘Ruinmaker’, or something along those lines. It takes its own particular slice of kitten.
Logan? You just missed him.
I’d use the rifle, rather than P/S. While its an amazing combo, the Rifle works far better with the TK.
Soldier’s would take a better piece of pie for me, just to add that extra bulkiness, since y’know, the only condition removal will probably come from Med Kit/ Doc HT.
For a second utility, I’d actually go slick shoes. Why? Toolbelt skill gives you double speed, even in combat, making it useful when the bugger tries to run away. Not only that, but you can score 1 to 2 knockdowns on a single person if used right. Which btw, helps ruin portal bombing in WvW.
It was most likely to cut back on development time. Who knows? Sometime in the future we may see race specific turret designs, similar to Shaman totems, took even Blizz awhile to get around to that.
This thread brought a tear to my eye, amidst all the weeping and gnashing of teeth, a beacon of light keeps these forums away from the clutches of depressive posting.
Shhhhh….
Stop getting things nerfed.
They’d have found out eventually, them sneaky Anet’s, nerfing all our funs.
I felt that something like this would help break away from the whole “ANET HATES ENGIES” rants that seem to be breeding like rabbits.
Your link for the build doesn’t load the trait choices properly btw. tried it twice.
Those four are simply traits I cannot completely decide upon, I felt it best to let that gap be filled with what you needed best.
One of the main things about this build that’s very important is removing poison, because if you let yourself stay poisoned you ruin your hp/second, which is why I think 30 in alchemy is near mandatory so you can keep deadly mixture and cleaning formula, as well as constant vigor up time.
True, Poison’s been something that slipped my mind, however, I do like my Power Shoes, so I may replace Elixir S with Elixir C. Since I already get a free one from traits.
Another problem I noticed was Retaliation, the damage it caused seems to burn through any lifesteal I perform.
I dislike backpack regenerator, because while otherwise pretty good, you run the risk of overhealing while using it with this build, and I believe that condition removal is much more important.
You maintain high fury up time with dropped stimulant from medkit and elixir B, as well as auto-elixir B at 75% hp when applicable which helps a lot.
I may swap it out then, possibly for Cleansing Formula or Deadly Mixture, depending on what I need. HT is a keeper for me, as it doubles as a blast finisher, something I believe I should keep at all times.
Thank you for your insightful feedback!

We live in dark days, days when people live without light. As a Flamethrower Engineer, it is my job to bring that light to people; in the soothing form of incineration.
The very first key thing you need to know about Flamenommer, is that by using this build, you sacrifice your +magic find food. However, the amount of survival is insane, capable of taking on a horde of mobs without fear.
You guessed right, this build is most effective for PvE/WvW. There is a less effective rendition for SPvP, utilising Sigil of Blood, but I digress.
Here is your simple guide to Flamenomming.
Step 1: Get Pie. You should already have pie, why not? The best choices are Omnomberry and Mixed Berry Pies, giving 66% and 50% chance to lifesteal respectively.
Step 2: Set traits. Allocate 0/30/20/20/0, The ONLY trait you need is Juggernaut, the other two, Self-Regulating Defenses and Backpack Regenerator are optional, but recommended.
Step 3: Flamethrower. You should be sitting above 30% crit chance, a regular attack should net you 3 crits, which translates to roughly 2 lifesteals.
After these three steps, comes the maths.
You should steal 348 hp per it, with an added 1 hp per 10 healing power. This means if you crit 4 times, you should obtain a base 696 hp per second, per enemy. Thats right, If you face 3 mobs, you get 2088 hp per attack. There is no internal cooldown on food buffs.
Now, traits.
Mandatory – Juggernaut: Self Explanatory, really, no questions, take it.
Optional – Self-Regulating Defenses: A free Elixir S with 3 seconds of Invulnerability? Which, by the way, you can still use kits while under the effects of this elixir
Optional – Backpack Regenerator: Thanks for Doc HT the Healing Turret, you will have a constant supply of regen, with an added bonus thanks to this trait.
Now, the remaining, and optional traits, can be swapped for any other combination. You can even turn this into a Tanky-Support, Turret Tanker, Elixirholic. The fact is, Flamenommer is versatile enough to fill all tastes.
Power Shoes: A favourite, the +25% combat speed pretty much negates the ANNOYING HELLSPAWN THAT IS COMBAT SPEED
Precise Sights: An extra way to stack vulnerability while flamenomming.
Rifled Barrels: More range for the rifle? Extra Jump Shot range to strike fear into my enemies? Yes please!
Explosive Descent: Because I jump off cliffs/walls often… what? Its fun, not even gravity can kill me!
Cloaking Device: Ninja Flamenommer
Infused Precision + Invigorating Speed: Roll to your heart’s content!
Utilities
You will obviously use Flamethrower, that is one slot. The other two are your choice, I prefer to utilise Tool-Kit and Elixir S in some sort of mutant Tank-Cat hybrid red haired child. But as I said before, pick and choose what you love most.
Stats
The main Stats you want to focus on are Precision, Toughness, Healing Power and Vitality, In that order.
Sigil
Up to you, choose Sigil of Blood for the extra lifesteal, Sigil of Strength for might stacking, or Sigil of Life to rack up the extra Healing Power.
Rune
I prefer Mercy, simply because it allows me to res people in times where others cannot, Flamenommer brings the light, Flamenommer brings life.
Seriously, once again, your choice. You can pick Fire x2, Hoelbrak x 2 and Strength x2 with your Sigil of Strength to increase your might stacks, or you could even chose Dwayna runes for the extra regen.
That is all, HAPPY NOMMING!

Its mainly easier for me, since I use my naga.
It seems to work the fact that this skill is a leap, and by using it quickly enough, can disable conditions that were possibly added to the skill later on, such as the touchdown smash. Another curious thing, is that this version is target based.
It needs to be cast almost instantly after you stow your kit, its tricky to pull off, but insanely useful.
They key I found was to hold down your Right Mouse Button, since it changes the way you face, it changes your cone of attack. Since FT hits in a cone in the centre of your screen, it’ll improve your ability to hit more targets.
Flamethrower.
No no, I don’t care, every other class suitably lacks a Flamethrower. Why you ask? Because they are not Engineer.
Engineer has Flamethrower, Engineer is superior.
Since the speed is increased by 25%, we result with 285 total speed. Normal speed is 300, combat speed is 210, the trait should almost entirely negate combat speed for us.
Engineer
Power Shoes: Increased move speed to 25%.The speedbuff is very welcome, but the conditional “in combat” makes this pretty useless.
Every other class got the 25% implented way better!
True, but this trait makes our combat speed 285, almost negating combat speed entirely. This means all we need to sacrifice is a trait, rather than use another utility slot.
Ooh, these are delicious! Nerf to Grenades? Meh, never use em.
And at long last, Sigils on Kits! THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING.
I am unsure if it is intended, but using Elixir S is supposed to stop us from attacking, making it an escape tool correct?
Well, we can still use a kit, letting the Engineer obtain 3 seconds of invulnerability. 6 seconds if we include the Alchemy trait.
Recently I’ve managed to experience, and successfully replicate an interesting bug in the Jump Shot ability.
Once you swap out of a kit, immediately casting Jump Shot results in a leap that not only takes you further, but also negates the small root we have at the end of it.
A very interesting bug, one that can give us an advantage in both pursuing, and escaping.
This issue has been known for quite some time, and is often one of the key arguments some make against the Flamethrower. Also, Flame Blast is target based, you need to have some unlucky kitten in your sights first. You’ll also notice the little ‘obstructed’ issue the skill has.
We’re still holding out for a fix, or news of a fix.
I’m going crit proc on Mr Smokey (Flamethrower). Since I’ve been having great success so far by combining it with lifesteal, I may use Blood sigil. Making him a Flamenommer.
Given that you already have 30 in Explosives, I’d recommend Rifle since it benefits most from that stat. As for the weapon sigil, a basic +5% damage would help, since most of the time you’ll be wanting to stay in your Kits.
Keep in mind the need for PvP. Most squishies hang around 13-14k hp, Blunderbuss doing 5-7k damage on hit basically takes a large chunk out of their HP. A combination of skills such as Jump Shot, Blunderbuss, and Overcharged, is enough to deal 7k if they all hit.
Med-Kit’s activation occurs when you actually equip the kit, it makes it quite useful for Centaur runes. However its barely efficient to run into a group and spam Q, its entertaining, sure, especially with kit refinement, makes an explosion every time.
Read properly, FlameNOMMER, combines high crit with large amounts of lifesteal, since food cannot be used in PvP, it doesn’t work as effectively.
Darxio has a point, the downtime could result in a horrible demise. Plus little effect against continuous condition removal. Combining this with an immobilise will probably help.
Since Flamenommer is limited to PvE, I will most definitely try this out.
All shall learn to fear the mighty Engineer!
I use my 0/30/20/20/0 “Juggernaut” build. It can double as both a Tank and Support build, which I tend to favour.
I couple life-steal food with my flamethrower Mr Smokey, come sigil patch, he’ll nom even more on hp. I still need to experiment with how much I can heal up, but its been promising so far.
Utilities so far vary, first slot depends on situation, Tool -Kit for WvW/Defensive purposes on second slot, which can also be swapped for Elixir Gun for Support.
Shoulders, Gloves, and Booties are from the Sorrows Embrace set. Coat and Leggings from the Orr Karma vendors.
There are only a handful of non-coat armours, most of them low-tier. Dulfy has a gallery up http://dulfy.net/2012/08/09/gw2-pvp-armor-collection/#34
Possibly the closest armour we have is the Sorrows Embrace set. Mix and match a few pieces into your leather and soon you’ll have one kitten frontline Engineer.
Although, we could do with far more variety, variety is always nice.
You can.
When you use it, you gain a second where projectiles are launched right back at the unlucky kitten who is shooting at you.
It took many a day, but I finally achieved my desired look.
May I present Cupcake Fury!
