Ilario Ciarenni – Mesmerizing Human Mesmer
[TEO] The Exalted Ones
Because I like my midget \o/
Kidding aside: the guardian embodies everything I look for in a character
- Heavy armor
- Melee (with big weapons)
- Magic (healing is magic, mmmmkay?)
It’s just missing the pets aspect I also normally look for (yeah yeah, summoned weaps, but they’re a bit lackluster).
So yeah, that’s why
P.S.: it will surprise no one that I played a death knight in WoW :P
That is not true at all.
Warriors use Healing Surge and Mending on the same level. Only Healing signet needs to be looked at, but it is another issue.
Elementalists have all the heals equally useful.
Guardians use both Signet and Shelter as much both in PvE and in PvE.
Engineers have Elixir and Turrets which are equally useful. Don’t know about Med kit.
Rangers use pretty much Healing Spring because of the combo field, but Troll Unguent and Heal as One are equally viable.
Thief have all heals viable. Withdraw and HiS are on the same level, signet is useful with high hit rates (P/P, for instance).
Mesmers suffer the same issue of Necromancers. Ether Feast is too strong to bring Mantra or Mirror.
Warriors: The signet is a PVE thing, plain and simple
Guardians: The signet is used when traited for it, shelter is used otherwise.
Engis: Med kit > other heals, especially when traited. Equally, traiting the other heals makes them equally, though differently useful
Rangers: Healing Spring is used most thanks to the heal blast finish it can provide. However, unguent/heal as one are perfectly fine roaming/soloing heals
Thief: no comment there
Mesmer: The mantra has its use in a mantra build ( traits ). Ether feast is fine. Mirror is used by many a mesmer in WvW ( reflect anyone? Combined with reflecting phantasms + focus = whoop whoop).
As you can see, the heals can get BETTER when TRAITED. And by that I mean traits focussed on the heals, not traits healing you on the side ( aka not using your heal skill ), which is what you are proposing. Why? Because not everyone uses the same tree and thus, it would mean an unnecessary nerf to builds that are not your own.
Also, are we useless in PvE? We are the most tough profession in PvE, to be honest.
Nope, Guardians are. When’s the last time you heard someone say “Get a necro so we can survive on maw in 40+ fractals”? Right, never.
Anyway, with your answer you proved what I said. You don’t really care about balance as far your build works. You just don’t want any nerf.
That said, I don’t think that this mindset is the right one to approach this kind of thread.
He proved nothing. You are taking things out of context ( also ignoring what other people are proposing, namely, buffing the other heals ). Consume Conditions is fine. The only thing I may agree in is to slightly nerf the healing coefficient from healing power ( which someone else already proposed, but you decided to ignore it ), and even that is a stretch.
The Blood Fiend has only one flaw: he’s a minion. Minions are not in a good place right now and need a workover badly in general.
Well of Blood: this is mostly a PvE heal. Hell, it’s the heal I use in PvE (over consume conditions ). Why? Because in PvE, I won’t be laden with conditions as soon as a mob looks at me funny ( invaders on the other hand … ). How to boost this one? Well, it’s a well of BLOOD, so having it do x extra healing for each enemy standing in it would be a start (don’t know if someone already mentioned this).
Back to CC: The necro is known to put conditions ON HIMSELF. Therefor, the extra loss of life must be mitigated somehow. Also, notice it’s CONSUME conditions, not SNEEZE OFF conditions.
So in conclusion: all you are doing is trying to push YOUR view on all of us, ignoring valid ideas and arguments, dismissing explanations as to why your idea is a bad one, playing the victim (boo hoo, we’re all against you) and generally being a pain in the butt.
I reiterate what I said before: You truely are the Westboro Baptist Church of necromancers.
Sorrow is like the westboro baptist church of necromancers … He won’t be swayed by our fancy logic.
Are you guys REALLY that thick? They just haven’t gotten around to update the kitten pages.
Old videos are old, whiners gonna whine.
I, for one, love my warrior
You asked for it, so here he is, in all his glory
Remove Daecollo from forums
Now there’s a patch I can get behind
makes me sad to see that players like the OP make this profession look bad…
Retaliation has its own dmg color on your screen, after using the first unload and seen that retaliation is up, WHY would you unload 2 more times on a row!?Makes me sad… very sad.
ENOUGH!.. okay, enough with all your moaning and complaining about it is a l2p issue!
I cant believe I need to defend myself on this issue.
No, it doesnt take 3 unloads for me to see if there is a retaliation, i notice it on the first attack, because it has a big retaliation icon in your face when you attack them.
This has nothing to do with if i should switch weapons, run away, change target.. This is an issue with retaliation punishing on Pistol/pistol!
I want Pistol/pistol to have a chance to win against someone with retaliation, if anyone of you ever fought a thief with pistol/pistol, you wouldnt make these stupid comments, because a fact is you dont lose to a thief with pistol/pistol, its a broken weapon set.
Well guess what …
You found the rock to your scissor
The paper to your rock
The lizard to your spock
…
Basically, just because YOUR build is ineffective against ONE build ( or an aspect of it ) doesn’t mean said aspect needs to be changed. This isn’t you vs everything where YOU have to be able to kill everyone else and the rest should only be allowed to lay down and die at the press of your I WIN button.
Retaliation is fine. I will accept, however, that P/P is not in a good place right now. It needs “teh buffz”.
WHY retaliation has no CD ?!?
WHY does whining have no CD?
Yes

My guildies received this too, and only the ones that paid real money for the gems. So with this I presume they didn’t put the box in TP on purpose, those who pay real money get the privilege of getting it first and free.
To the ones that can’t or didn’t spend real money (which I happen to be one of them) they have to wait and of course won’t be getting it free either.
Thanks, I won’t forget such an insult.
Translation: I’m a self entitled prick who thinks that everything should be given to me for free. I mean, how DARE anet show appreciation to the people who support them by buying gems and therefor keeping the game running. Seriously guys, what the H.
Just my own experience, but the main tell for me that points to mesmers being a little too strong with less counters than other professions is that I only really fear other mesmers when playing my mesmer.
Not saying that I can’t be beat by other professions, of course I can, but fighting mesmers is as difficult on my mesmer as it is when I’m playing another profession.
That’s less a product of power and more a product of play style.
Mesmers and Thieves both possess high in-combat mobility and burst, so they’re good counters for each other. That doesn’t mean they’re the only professions of equal power, though. D/D Eles, BM Rangers, (etc.) are all in the same tier, or higher, but certain professions are always going to be either stronger or weaker when matched against certain others due to their play style. Think of it like rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock.
Fixed it for you
Mesmer is not squishy. They have alot of mobility, and alot of clutter. Blurred Frenzy is over kill.
i dont think you understand the problem with mesmer melee?
Without blurr frenzy, there isnt much reason for a mesmer to stay in the melee range for long periods of time. Many of mesmer active defensives have a quite long cd. The cooldown are migrated due to the fact that there is a weapon swap and the invulnerability remove two seconds to the cooldown. Which means, changing blurr frenzy will kill any melee mesmer build.
However, I think anet messed up when designing the class that caused them to add that powerful effect.
Of course, the alternatives are quite bad too.
If mesmer added extra evade to their weapon set, then they are effectively copied the ranger
If the mesmer have more mobility, then they copied the thief
Adding more damage copies warrior hundred blades and anet will might nerf it later on
Adding more range will mirror the d/d elemental which is not a true melee weapon
I’m going to completely ignore Jackums since his points are generally moot and nonsense. And without even reading them every single thing he says involves “l2p” as though he makes money off of that phrase.
A glass cannon Warrior is ALOT easier to kill than a glass cannon Mesmer, infact, any glass cannon builds are easier to kill than a shatter Mesmer. Hundred Blades has no invulnerability, and I have actually been able to turn the tides of a battle by simply bursting a Warrior while he’s using it. Mesmer Melee is fine. Blurred Frenzy should not grant invulnerability period. My simple point is that focusing a Mesmer down is difficult, despite the fact that the Mesmer is a glass cannon. I would rather them take the route of a Necro and have Blurred Frenzy not root the player using it, give no invulnerability, but be usable at a range of 600.
<sarcasm>
Make a melee attack on a melee weapon hit from range … genius
</sarcasm>
I went for twilight on my mesmer. I just loooove it. Now working on Jormag’s Breath ( not a legendary, I know ).
Anyway, tastes vary, so … yeah
So here’s my mesmer, Ilario Ciarenni
Full priori light armor, except for the headpiece, which is the ghosty starter headpiece from a necro
Also: twilight :P
/boast
Deleted my asura ( May he rest in pieces ) and made a human mesmer noble:
Ilario Ciarenni
Named after one of my favorite characters in my favorite webcomic ( which, alas, stopped just last friday :’( )
http://argos-soft.net/GW2ArmorGallery/index.php?weight=2&race=2&color=10&sex=0&armorSet=thiefi
And since the site I just linked has a wonky webhost, here’s another link for good measure:

Pants are from that. Boots seem pretty simple bland ones
(edited by Rhogall.4179)
Well, you may want to try this combo:
- Boots, shoulders, chest and hands from CoF
- Legs and helm ( if you show it ) from Arah.
I love the looks of that combo
Let’s just say that I’m considering renaming my guardian to “Mc Donald”
Well, here’s what I’m using:
Loving it so far. Lo … ving … it !!
How did you get confusion on your target? Granted, I haven’t been playing my necro in … months, but I don’t recall necros being able to put confusion on targets.

Here are two screenhots. As you’ll see, the white objects are … quite bright.
Am I the only one affected by this? It’s only been like this since a few days for me
Fink Of The Mirrors
For hundreds of hours, I’ve played my Guardian that focuses on a shout build with Altrustic Healing, Empowering Might, and all that- using Knight’s gear, PVT, and all that good stuff.
It has served me well. I’ve never had a problem with dungeons at all.
However, lately, I’ve been striving harder to obtain my first legendary. I’m at the point where all I need now is hundreds of gold. Unfortunately, I went to the dark side and invested in full Berserker’s gear to get into those super quick CoF p1 runs to get gold.
Then, I decided to take my Warrior to other dungeons- Arah exp, CoE exp, and I found myself not really dying much at all. I’ve become confident in my ability to dodge and kite and to simply not die. The damage output on my Warrior is about 4x+ the damage of my Guardian. It made me think about giving the legendary to my Warrior instead.
However, I love my Guardian. I’ve played it for hundreds of hours like I said, and would like to give it the legendary and to continue keeping it as my main- but I just feel so much more useful on my Warrior.
I think my skill has grown so that I can sacrifice all that toughness and vitality in favor of precision and crit damage without going down. I’d like to carry this over to my Guardian so I can remain playing it. I already know that I won’t achieve the same damage output as my Guardian, but I’d like to dish out as much damage as I can.
Is this a good idea? Are there any strong zerker-focused Guardian builds that you would recommend?
TLDR:
Just tried a zerker Warrior, and am loving the damage output, and am finding my skill to dodge and stay alive to be worth it, as I hardly go down and I dish out insane damage. I love my Guardian and would like to carry that over to my Guardian. I can’t just “play both” because I’m striving for a legendary that I’d like to give to my Guardian so I can continue using it as my “main.” Any power based or zerkers build you have that you could recommend? Or is this just not a good idea?
Legendaries are Pow/Tough/Vit matey
Priory Greatsword – It’s what I’m getting for my midget
1. Save yourselves !!
2. Hold the line !!
(combo)
3. Leap of Faith
The first two are actually a combo. I can’t help but chuckle everytime I use them in succesion.
SAVE YOURSELVES!! HOLD THE LINE!!! … wait, what?
And leap of faith, well … I just like it. The name, the animation on my midget, the comboing, … it’s a wild ride.
Well, I recently started using this:
It has high survivability and good damage. If you get used to it, you can solo stack 12-15 stacks of vulnerability on a target ( this requires starting with 1H sword and swapping to gs ).
You get pretty much a constant stream of healing from your virtue + regeneration ( hold the line + save yourselves ). Your dodges heal for 1k+ and activating your virtue of resolve heals for 2.2k-ish. And then you still have shelter.
The damage output is quite nice, with relatively high crits ( you know, for a guardian ) that can go higherif you learn to vuln stack ( blinding = 3 stacks in this build ).
Example: use sword 2 ( that’s 3 stacks ), focus 4 ( the beam will bounce on the target, you and back to target, adding 6 stacks, bringing you to 9 ), activate virtue of justice ( 12 stacks ), switch to GS, use skill 3 ( 15 stacks ) and do a whirling wrath.
Fun times \o/
Also, I have noticed something particularly fun with the GS. If you use leap ( #3 skill ) on a group, the blind will trigger on each mob, right? Right. That means 3 stacks of vulnerability on each mob, right? WRONG!! It means 3*<number of mobs near> stacks on each mob !! Apparently, the vulnerability triggers from blinds (at least from the leap) are AOE vuln stacks
More fun times \o/
That won’t work.
The “face paint” is soulbound, so you will not be able to interact with one of your other character. Like using a transmutation stone, the slot will become red.
And when you use a transmutation stone with the character who own the mask, still the final object is soulbound.
There is no way around:
-either you forget about having a “face paint”, or you are crazy, and you start over a new necro just to have this “mask”.
A friend of mine choose the second solution, and finally, it go pretty fast to get 80 with a bit of help (friend power leveling you in dungeon)
Wrong.
Get through the “tutorial”, buy any helm piece, transmute ( select the looks of your paint, the stats of the bought helm, but DO NOT select any runes ) and POOF: account bound paint \o/
Doesn’t trigger for me. Never ever.
Don’t think it’s lore accurate but I certainly find it funny xD
My eles name is Durz the Unhinged.
I like the name, but -1 for not following naming conventions :P. So 7/10 \o/
My turn: Tezz Of The Hammer, Asura Guardian
Here’s a thought: Anet designed it this way because they didn’t WANT you to dodge in WHATEVER way you want. Wow, crazy eh?
The design is that Withdraw is a roll backward, deal with it. If that doesn’t suit you, consider it … flavor. They wanted to immerse players more with skills like this. Again, it’s designed this way.If you’re not happy with it, may I suggest you offer your invaluable services and expertise as a game designer to Anet
Well, in that case, people is clearly exploting the skill by using camera turns to Dodge in whatever direction they see fit.
If what you say is truly the designer’s intention, then the skill is bugged and should be fixed to always move you away from your opponents, no matter your relative position, facing or camera angle.
I wouldn’t call it a bug per se.
The skill makes you roll backwards. Now, if your back is facing the opponent, that’s where you’re rolling “backwards” to. Notice the tooltip says “roll backward” and not “roll backward away from the opponent”
Bug or clever use of game mechanics? Well, I’ll leave that with the Anet devs.

So I’ve been using the valor traitline for pretty much all my guardian builds, but only recently started paying attention to this: Valorous Defense is bugged.
It just doesn’t trigger for me. Tested it multiple times and it just doesn’t give me my aegis. I haven’t found any info about it having some sort of internal cooldown or sharing a cooldown with something or the other.
Anyone else having trouble?
Hello,
I go by Vesu Verra and I wanted to try my hand at some video editing. All footage is WvW based and includes group fights as well as duels and small man stuff.
I see an alarming lack of Asura good sir, so I will have to call bullkitten on your “small man stuff”.
Guardians are melee oriented … get over it.
This is being said a lot, and it bugs me for the following reasons:
- If us being “melee-oriented” is true and important, then why did they increase the range of both the Staff and the Scepter during Beta? Or why do we have ranged weapons anyway, if we’re not supposed to use them as such?
- Ranged combat is a part of the game that every (other) profession has access to. Saying we aren’t supposed to be able to do decent ranged combat means we’re not viable for a part of the game.
My answer may sadden you:
PvE content: there are boss fights where you just can’t/shouldn’t be up close. These bosses do not run around frantically like a player does, ergo, the scepter works.
WvW sieges: Well, you sometimes need a little ranged, but it’s limited in it’s use.
This is, for me, the reason us guardians have ranged options, NOT because we should have a uber I WIN ranged build with them. They’re situational tools. For everything else, use masterc …. err, a big kitten sword or hammer
Guardians are melee oriented … get over it.
But if I must give an idea, I’d say: Chakram
I just want to say that, for the rings, I use Lunaria and Solaria. Works very well tbh.
Only a guardian can have the healthpool of an anemic fly and still refuse to die
Guys … obvious troll is obvious
Stuff about being sick …
Rhogall, Interesting build! I’m glad my build inspired you to at least play around with mantras which is my main intend for sharing the build Mantras have a lot more potential now with the decreased cast time. It’s just a matter of getting used to the playstyle.
More stuff …
Hope you’re doing better.
A few extra notes on my build:
- You have a 2.8k group heal every 5 seconds ( mantra of pain ) I just spam that mantra when I see my group’s health pool going too low. It’s not a lifesaver, obviously, but it helps quite a bit.
- If you change empowering mantras to duelis’ts discipline + switch out 1-2 mantras for other skills ( blink, decoy, … whatever tickles your fancy ) you instachange into a wvw machine :P.
- Phantasms hurt a LOT in this setup
- Consider for wvw also switching Empowered Illusions to Crippling Illusions … you now … for cripples.
- Greatsword auto attacks crit up to 1.9k, phantasms range between 3.5k and ( swear to god I saw it at least once ) 5k.
All in all, this build offers survivability while still hitting like a truck. I would be very curious to see what you could do with this build tbh fay ( subtle hint at a video :P ). I would make one myself, but I would need to get into movie editing and stuff first :P
Oh hai!! You may remember me from this thread as being the guy who said this build wasn’t for me. Well, I made a little variation of it and, combined with the correct gear + food supplements, I’m in love.
I’ll just drop it here for your enjoyment:
build
Weapons: AC pow tough vit
Armor: AC pow tough vit
Jewelry: Beryl orichalcum ( pow vit crit dam ) for all except rings
Rinsg: Ascended berserker rings
Back: Pow tough crit
Runes: undecided
Food: Master maintenance oil and Bowl[s] of Curry Butternut Squash Soup
Using all this, my stats are around:
power 1993
precision 1602
toughness 1439
vitality 1707
crit damage 76%
Survivability is good, very good.
I went the 2 mantra activations route for some extra healing. All in all, I’m satisfied with this.
Thoughts? ( also, don’t mean to hijack your thread Fay but this seems like as good a place as any to post a mantra build )
EDIT: changed the build a bit, more oomph. All in all, loving this last version. Thanks Fay, for introducing me to mantras
(edited by Rhogall.4179)
Part Healway, part Altruistic, all monkey!!
So heya, I just came up with this build during a dull moment:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUQQNAR8flcgSDHHyNEfIFRuA7DDETRFz41DIGxGC;T8AgzyoEMJhS1kiJKsMYJwyilDLJWrPGfsbA
(copy pasta)
the big idea is to abuse self heals … a lot while also being able to heal allies a bit ( although less than Healway due to having significantly less access to regeneration ).
Smite condition is a 1960 ish heal on a 16 seconds cooldown ( that is before healing power, but healing power is on a 0.1 modifier, so meh )
Dodge rolls ( heal modifier of 1 ) heal for about 1.4k per roll. That’s a lot of healing with two non heal skills right there.
Two of the meditations remove/change conditions. This is always handy. Two meditations break stun, one even going as far as to double heal ( Monk’s Focus + healing from the meditation itself ).
Greatsword is always my weapon of choice, because greatsword. Off set is sword + torch.
Superior sigils of energy so that you always have that dodge heal around. Superior of life in the torch for extra healing punch.
As far as the healing skill goes, I currently put Healing Breeze to have a bit more team support capability. However, I believe it could be any of our three heals ( 4 if human, meh ).
Runes: I believe runes of the guardian would fit this best, but I’ll let more able theorycrafters be the judge of that
This build is still in it’s baby steps stage and might go over some iterations or even get thrown in the dumspter ( well, that’s a terrible turn of phrase ). However, I thought it had a glimpse of viability and I thought I’d share it
So yeah, I tried the build, but I didn’t enjoy it. I so wanted to love this, but I just couldn’t. Mostly I think because some parts didn’t work as I was expecting them to.
That being said, I see value in this build and, even now, after saying this build did not seduce me, I have a nagging feeling in the back of my head telling me, urging me even to give it another go :P. So who knows?
Just my two cents
Totally going to try that out as soon as I get home !!!
Now, a little question:
Does the healing on mantras (from trait) trigger the boon from Rune of Lyssa? Wishful thinking probably on my part
Bonus pic of my mesmer(s) :P
So here’s my little mesmer:
Head: T3 asura light
Coat: T3 asura light
Pants: HotW light
Gloves: HotW light
Colors: Celestial and abyssal
Sadly .. Dev already stated that Race change will NEVER be availible in gem store
And I would buy a lot of gems for that
Make new toon
Buy gems
Craft all 8 professions to 80
Buy exoyes this would be easy if I didnt have Legendary + full T3 set + fractals progression, etc on that toon
but ye thanks for advice
Buy more gems, convert to gold, buy legendary off TP, buy T3 set, pay someone to carry you in fractals.
Yes, because everyone has 2000 $/€ lying around to buy enough gems for a legendary …
I, for one, would like race change also. My mesmer is sylvari, but I want him to be asura. I have map completion almost done on him ( wvw part is killer … ), 3 pieces of ascended ( trivial, this can be refarmed ), etc … Many hours spent in him.
The time spent with that char is what makes me NOT want to redo the whole thing from 0.
The cultural armor argument is flawed, as it wouldn’t take a whole lot of code to switch armor to the the target race one.
Personal story? Tbh, that stops around 20 ( or is it 30? Forgot ). Once you join an order, it’s the same for all( down to the dialogues. I know, I’ve done it – unless I missed something ).
So yeah, a makeover kit that includes a race change would be awesome!!! But alas, if arenanet said no … makes me a sad panda
I don’t know if they’re “supposed” to do that, but the way they work now is that they will attack the target closest to you when they get created (as opposed to your target).
Also, clones won’t appear on dodges when you are transformed (ghost in AC path 3, Charr in the flame legion fractal, … )
My issue was escalated, but I still have not received a response.
I have, however, received a request to rate the quality of the handling of my ticket ^^

Tezz Of The Hammer
Build of fiery doom (PVE): ( copy pasta ) http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUQQJARWlYgSBHCyvD29EhNDC2vaG7TeYK0YGB;TwAZXCqkcpqSRFFPGeE8Y5xxjknRBA
The idea here is to have conditions on the enemy as much as possible. The symbols, spirit weapons and virtues are going to help you achieve that. Symbols will be putting vulnerability on the mobs, you will be putting burning on and so will your spirit weapons. Forget the major trait “Fiery Wrath”, as the minor trait “Radiant power” does exactly the same, except it works for ALL conditions.
Add bonus damage from symbols to the mix and you’re all set to wreck some havoc.
I’m still wishy washy on the gems to use, but this is pretty much the build I’m going for ( currently level 66 ).
The runes are also not set in stone, still weighing the pros and cons of the flame legion ones vs the nightmare ones.
