And the trait for shatters summon your phantasmal is just ridiculous. Swordsman phantasm duelist shatter and the duelist and swordsman hit again…. that some pretty heavy phantasm build damage.

OK. But a new player is getting 5 characters slots and the expansion at $50 while existing players get the expansion only. In other words, if I and my new player friend buy the game on the same day, he gets more than I do for the same price.

Only Full Dire stealth condi thief has a chance when roaming in 1v4s or 2v5s effectively but when you get a larger group power thief is far more effective like 5v10 5 power thieves can cover the others with stealth easily and few people will be able to withstand 2 thieves bursting then rotating behind the other for a moment to heal. Shatter mesmer works well with thieves and rangers. thieves work well with ranger(s). it doesnt matter to heavily though because different specs take on different roles. Engi does have the highest skill cap but not necessarily the most powerful game play in WvW when outnumbered, it is a great solo class though just watch sir Koroshi. Also, i have no idea why no one ever mentions phantasm mesmers for 1v1s in WvW it plays much more defensive and sends out almost 2x the sustain damage of shatter mes with sacrificing the ability to instant kill low armor classes. It is worse vs thieves because they will stealth around so you cant cast phantasms and stealth off the clones you rely on for damage and survivabilty as well as you until you die but i does much better vs condis in a 1v1 senario.
@OP what class does your friend play ? and i would say that casual players like your friend are average in WvW unless you duel solo roamers etc.. you will have to learn to avoid people who know what they are doing regardless because they will always win vs you and your friend / wife. I suggest specs with decent mobility to run away from conflict with spam rangers. Necromancer, though not that high skill cap, is a very strong class unless your fighting a stupid 2k range ranger and can kill or force anything to run away in a 1v1. it is not as useful when outnumbered because it lacks mobility.

yeah, I’m scared memsers will get nerfed to the ground because the other players are used to being able to faceroll and beats us and will QQ too much on the forums

Is there anything at all you people won’t complain about? I have 9 full ascended sets, at least one of every ascended weapon, typically 2-3 of some. I’ll have to adjust my armor to make way for the new changes too, but if you farmed as hard as I had to in order to get full ascended gear, then you best believe it better be like a 10% increase. If you don’t want to farm for ascended or fight people with it, go play PvP.
This guy gets it. My question is, why stop at only 10%? If you farm much harder than everyone else, shouldn’t you be getting at least a 50% increase? I feel like if you put in the hours and 500+ gold for Ascended, you should be able to 1-shot people in Exotics. After all, that’s basically how mass pvp works in every other generic MMO, and people bought GW2 knowing it was going to follow the exact same formula. So they shouldn’t be upset.

Idk about all of you but pVp I’d not where melee war shines. Gs + X builds are insanely powerful in WvW with very high defense and power damage along with crazy mobility and near condi immunity.
Conjure weapons have very specific roles and limitations. Recently Arena net announced the nerf to Frost Bow and lightning hammer. This thread is for the discussion of these nerfs and wether or not they should come to be. And, if so, in what ways should these changes be brought about and for what gamemodes.
Frost Bow :
This is an amazing utility, the skill 4 kits harder than meteor shower but is limited to a smaller area and lower target count, it’s channel can not be broken down without canceling the icestorm.
Frostbow potency;
PvE – it lends a hard Cc of extreme length and the highest damage attack in the entire game onto the same weapon. Bosses with large hit boxes can be nearly instantly destroyed by a team of icebow wielding speed runners.
WvW – Frostbow still provides and extremely high damage attack but it is not nearly so easy to land. With special comps and unaware opponents icebow can kill many mindless ktrainers stacked upon a point doing nothing to escape the wrath of the glass elementalists wielding them. Thief Venoms make this significantly easier to land and provide more damage modifiers.

We’re only seeing the beginning. Imagine when the amount of guilds having access to this increase a thousand fold and its use creep down to smaller groups.
Dragonbrand demonstrated to mag and sbi what it will be like, I’m pretty sure they put a banner in every tower they took.
in all seriousness burst builds have taken a much bigger hit other tankers cele specs. Nerfing a entire segment of the class that already was underwhelming is a big mistake. (I am biased towards burst ele and don’t really like dd tank specs in their current state but that would make me biased towards thinking burst specs are stronger than they are would i not ???) the way the traits are it looks like zerker mesmer might become meta but ele still will have no truly competitive zerker option. please remember I design this on a small amount of freetime and the devs spend much more time with a larger team so don’t expect every trait to be perfect yet.
Trait changes: these are mostly focused on bustier or damage focused builds but include overall design changes that are beneficial to all eles.
Fire:
This line did not receive nerfs necessarily but is not going to be able to provide enough survival for a glassy ele and doesn’t add enough to its burst because many of the traits incentivize melee gameplay ( bad on glassy builds) but aren’t even that strong in the first place making it likely to be the least used line by elementalists outside of pve.
My changes: This line will be strong for adding sustained damage and some sustain (moving most blinding traits to air)
Grand Master – Blinding Ashes – you have a 33% chance to burn foes you hit; blind foes you burn ( 3s ICD per target )
Grand Master – Pyromancer’s puissance – Fire auras you apply reduce damage taken ( 15% )
master- minor – Sunspot: Blind your target when attuning to fire ( AoE around target)
adept – Power overwhelming – gain 33% more duration for burning and gain might when you strike a burning foe ( 1 stacks ( 1s icd) 5 seconds base duration)
Adept – conjurer- conjure weapons have additional affects ( not sure about icebow but if they Nerf it damage ( the said the would) making it support viable could be nice- icestorm on frostbow heals ( more on theme with it anyways), lightning hammer applies vulnerable with each attack (2 stacks), you take reduced damage while wielding earth shield, fiery gs ( need better ideas), flame axe does increased damage to burning foes ( 10%)
adept minor – critical blaze – ( 10% higher crit chance to burning foes, might change this)
Air: this line is okay but the modifiers on it aren’t consistent with other traits i will explain on aeromancer’s training)
My Changes: this line becomes a highly critchance and damage based line with emphasis on popping in and out of air attunement to burst and use skill that provide utility and synergizes with blind ( fire will keep the blinding GM but other blind traits will likely be moved to air )
adept- Ferocious winds: Gain ferocity based on your percision ( 7% )
adept minor – Zephyr’s percision: gain 10% critical chance while in air attunement ( awaiting laraley’s obviously amazing suggestion she is bound to post)
Master – aeromancers training – air skills reduced CD by 20% and increases crit damage by 30% ( roughly 425 ferocity ) this is because as the trait is set up now it provides + 10% crit damage which, because it us a multiplier for power, is only a 5% damage bonus on crit and the average crit chance of a Zerker scholar runes build in pvp is 49% this is under a 2.5% average damage bonus and so is absolutely useless; with my changes it would be an average 7.5% damage bonus but can be made higher with the crit chance the air line would incentivize.)
GM – bolt to the heart – increase damage by 20% to foes below 50% hp ( this is only an average age 6.66…% damage modifier so it is not GM worthy. 20/3 = 6.66…)
GM minor – piercing lightning – cause vulnerability ( 3 stacks) to foes you blind ( does this need an icd? )
Master – Powerful inscriptions – reduce recharge of glyphs by 20%, glyphs have addition effects based on your attunement:
Glyph of storms fire attunement-example- firestorm also grants might to allies in an AoE ( 5s duration 2 stacks per second )
Notes:
Currently fixing balance, design, and thematical issues as well as adding an arcana improvements section.
Also if you like my ideas Arena-net please allow me to help you with more design balance I have the summer free and would be happy to help you then ( Note that especially the blind traits in the fire line are not final, moving most of them to air and adjusting traitlines right now).

Didn’t read all the replies, but to the OP. This is exact reason why WvW needs to be Megaserver. Any server below tier 3 has little to none WvW activity, and it’s a real kitten shame because WvW is so much freakin’ fun.
T4 is very active, at least on NA
WvW is not a giant GvG.. it is open field pvp with varying terrain and the ability to use situational advantages. Guild arenas are for GvGs.
I don’t really understand the critique because this is just an above / average thief roaming around fighting average wvw players ( terrible ).
Elementalists are not necessarily being nerfed, it will just change how evasive arcana builds are used, also ele is extremely mobile and your numbers are slightly off and misleading.

For starters these people you are to recruit probably aren’t on your server to begin with. To get to you they have to understand how WvW recruiting works, then pay $25 USD or somewhere around 400 – 500 gold.
Others leave or take breaks and suddenly their faced with another $25 cost. Changing it up with a new server is actually pretty fun, all the new people and play styles… but it sure is expensive.
No, we brought them to the game, they got brand new accounts and we fund/help their leveling and gearing to get them to WvW. They are currently leveling atm… but no transfers needed because they start on mag.
currently you can grab restoration illusions and mental defence which is a questionable amount of passive sustain. in addition restorative illusions is kind of the most useful trait in the trait line so your not gonna grab the focus trait or the protected phantasms. which begs the question of why it was merged to be super effective with shattered conditions and then moved down a tier?
Pretty sure restorative illusions only removes 1 condition per shatter now, not 1 per clone per shatter.
it removes 1 per clone + heals. ive tested it with a good condie friend of mine. also works with the base illusionary persona giving a max 4 condie removal per shatter…..

I am told it sufferered a nerf to its healing with the patch and that the slight bug with it longer appears to occur.
I understand that anet is terrified of player outrage because of more “passive gameplay” on a " no skill required" class ( rofl this is that I get when I evades every single skill my opponent uses…) ,but clone death is not actually passive. I will explain my reasoning. First, clone death has counter play in several ways, do not kill clones, Kill clones from range, or cause mesmer to shatter clones. In Addition, it is not passive on the side of the mesmer and their are several important things that made a good clone death mesmer and were required to make clone death traits effective. First, you must position clones correctly. Clone death traits are cbaoes (clone position based AoEs) triggered on death, this means that enemies killing clones from range are, as previously stated, means you are unaffected. There are many potential and skillful ways to deal with this; for example, you can use a sword to summon the clone inside of enemy auto cleave to ensure they are affected (etc…). It can also be used skillfully to dodge thief shadow shot and create a clone which, when killed, used to have a chance to apply weakness to the thief removing backstab damage (dependent on weakness ring) through a skillful use of dodges and positioning. The mesmer also was required to judge when on shatter affects were worth losing the on death affect, or masterfully use shatters to proc the on death affect… (continue later)

I think that if there is any catch involved with this change, it will be the frequently mentioned “Make it apply to self only” nerf, but I actually believe that there will be no change, as the main reason to run Arcana has always been to pick up the 2 EA’s and Renewing Stamina.
I think the worst option would be to put selfish EA as a minor trait and a major GM trait would make it aoe. Then, elementalist would be still forced into Arcana and still lose the support it needs if it wants to compete with shoutbow. It would make a sense, they need to come up with a new trait for a GM slot. And we would still be stuck with useless master traits.

A nerf to the duration might happen but I’m sure Robert won’t allow anyone to mess up his balance ideas by nerfing anyone too hard. I doubt it, the only game mode where you can kill people fast enough to make this really matter is zerg vs zerg and there phantasms are useless. In the event you are in pvp a kill means your 90% likely to win that fight because you now +1 the enemies for 20s
Not really to be honest. Our best DPS build is still the hammer dragonhunter. Sword is about 15-20% lower DPS than hammer, even with the new symbol. If you really need a shield like to knock back seekers in VG then sword is a viable option now, but hammer is still the top stuff.
People so mis informed.. Scepter is by far the best dps on guard now…

Stacking ferocity bonus of 4 percent is equivalent to a 1% avg damage bonus for each mantra used assuming your crit chance is 50%. When compared to the old trait where you could gain 12% damage mods ( multiplicative so its even higher ) where as now even if the stacking bonus works above 5 ( which I think might be chosen to be the cap ) it is still lower avg damage ( 5% + ). This is not necessarily bad considering mesmers have had numerous buffs and you are getting your extra charge out of this but It would be nice for a mantra oriented build to be more viable.
Edit: I am making some assumptions due to the wording of the trait and that it does not affect phantasm, as I have been told the current trait doesn’t not.

sometimes teleporting seems to break the stomp animation for me and it appears to be a glitched likely caused by latency.
Defense on the full Zerker ranger camping walls and destroying npcs or players quickly was extremely useful. I was the only person necessary for playing defense because no one could break the door with dead npcs

If you watch closely, the skill itself does link to Blur. The rest is called figurative speech but you probably never heard of it.
The article is refering to Sword 2 as 2nd distortion because it can be used as a panic button just like F4. What’s next, you’ll say “ha! it say stability will help me stomp enemies, I pressed stability and he did not get somped! you did not say I must press F!”?

So I have come up with the following suggested changes/retools to elementalist staff:
FIRE
Fireball – no change
Lava Font – each 1s it should spew 4 smaller versions of itself which land in a radius 400 and last 1s, dealing half damage
Flame Burst – add Combo Finisher: Blast
Burning Retreat – roll in a target’s direction (as warrior GS3, you can pick the direction) and reduce cooldown to 15 seconds
Meteor Shower – no changeWATER
Water Blast – no change
Ice Spike – Make cast time instantaneous and reduce the animation time to 1/2 second. Make it come in like focus water 5 (Comet) rather than slowly form above the location, and add Combo Finisher: Blast
Geyser – no change
Frozen Ground – Add torment (1 stack per second in the AoE)
Healing Rain – no changeAIR
Chain Lightning – Reduce activation time to 1/4 second and increase projectile speed by 200% for primary target. Make the projectile split to arc (instantaneously) to hit secondary targets, and arc back in the same way.
Lightning Surge – Blind lasts for the full 5 seconds, as opposed to being dispelled after the first attack. Add: 5 stacks of weakness.
Gust – Completely retool this. Make it a teleport (range 900) and have it knock back nearby opponents (range 240, knockback 240). No activation time, no projectiles involved. Can still be dodged, though.
Windborn Speed – no change
Static Field – Add pulses each second the field is active that damage foes within the area of effect and apply weakness. Make this more than just a situationally-applicable choke point holder. Enemies should have to either take the damage, face the 2 second stun, or teleport out. Rename it to “Static Cage”.EARTH
Stoning – Add a 30% chance to apply bleed (5s), no ICD.
Eruption – no change
Magnetic Aura – Reduce cooldown to 20 seconds
Unsteady Ground – no change
Shockwave – This needs to function as the weaker version of Churning Earth cast by Evasive Arcana. The current skill is extremely easy to avoid and outright glitchy. My favourite, though, is when it rebounds off someone with magnetic aura active. It’s a kittening seismic attack, yet the game considers it a projectile. Really dumb.Thoughts?

chain lightning would be extremely op with a cast time of 1/4s and I gathered that you wanted to make staff ele balanced in 1v1s ???
static field is perfect as is and does not need buffed in any way.
your lightning surge is completely insane and makes no sense …. that would be a free kill 1v1.
The projectile component makes gust really useful in zergs but for your purposes your version is better. I think there needs to be a way to not teleport in order for this skill to be useful.
Basically 50% of your changes would make ele godmode…. you would see staff eles winning 1v1s against weapons actually designed for 1v1 90% of the time. The only parts I really see value in are the fixes to the projectiles and maybe the condi damage frost field.

In a duel, the closer 2 people’s skills are evenly matched, the more important gear becomes in a duel.
Now I didn’t say how much more important, but that generally speaking it does become more important.

ascended gear is a total of 15% cushion now for players with full ascendeds now in terms of damage. If you look at armor defense and celestial stats the gain becomes much larger. And with the emphasis on stats this gain becomes much greater. Already that 15% can carry your missed dodge, or cause instant death to your foe where as if you were in exotic gear your foe could react and kill you. The amount this changes could be extremely bad for the pvp community when they join WvW. New players who want to join WvW will be discouraged by the ever growing power gap between ascendeds and full exotic. It will force players moving from pvp to wvw to spend months grinding boring pve content. Ascended gear should not be a huge difference in terms of stats for pvp purposes because it affects fights heavily and does not promote more skillful play than your opponents to win. Instead it allows you to gain the upper hand via farming ( a skill less activity).
I don’t understand Sinister gear, could you explain why you are using it over rabid or something else?
Isn’t one of the benefits of running condi the increased survivability? Why go glass condition? Glass defense with max burst offense makes sense, glass defense with over time offense makes less it seems.
our condi weapons already apply tons of power damage ( scepter 3 is blurred frenzy and staff 3 cna hit for over 10k in wvw, duelist can hit over 10k in wvw ) and if you feel like you can survive w/o defensive stats then sinisters is much stronger. I personally reccomend atleast cele armor though for more survivability and crit damage if your going to run a hybrid build even on mesmer or thief.
Fighting a mesmer is a 4v1, because I definitely don’t consistently win those in WvW on my elementalist

- I think is easy to scape if the enemy try to focus you, using stealth and blink out of combat.
- I could change evasive mirror on dueling with blinding dissipation so i can shatter a lot and blind enemies arround me if they try to focus me, as now we will have IP baseline.
I’m not good at pointing at cons, this is mostly for SPvP Mesmer Support using Celestial Amulet maybe?
I would use Staff and Scepter/Focus (or maybe Sword/Focus?). Also Mantra of Recovery, Decoy, Blink and Mantra of Pain or Null Field. Elite would be Moa or Mass Invi.

Your builds lacks boon sharing or AoE vigor / heals. It’s not so much normal support as a glamour / pvp reflect build imo . This does not mean it won’t work.
My thoughts :
Taking CI gives much more support through cc and boon on shatters has more boon juggling capabilities (tons of safe stomps and AoE support).
Taking illusionary inspiration will grant all your boons to your allies whenever you use a phantasm skill, this is very strong, where as the glamour GM feels mediocre.

Hydro looks sub par on this build, I would run bursting instead.
No, those traits were bad and encouraged mindless clone spam while hiding in stealth.
There were builds that utilized these traits that never even went into stealth. Also, prove that it is actually effective to do that. Any with any sense would eliminate your clones with a ranged auto rendering the traits completely useless.
i do not believe it affects non stuns. and anyhting that is projectile based including engis nades can be reflected unless it has unblockable.
We got silent nerfs, why not silent buffs? Robert could just increase the attack speed and call it a day
while he is at it he can give us a 3k range sword 3!

Well i can say this, from when they have started to fix WvW, yes after they reuploaded the Desert BL’s the lag has been pretty bad. But I would cut some slack to Anet at the moment. To improve the lag, generally you improve your code again and again, when they can bring the wvw to a ‘’pretty good’’ point, then maybe then we shall get something that will improve the lag.

I’m ecstatic. Inspiration is kittening rad, Illusion changes are rad. Look at the GM in inspiration Mental Defense, are you kittening serious? Summon phantasmal defender when you block or dodge? Wtf, that is a simultaneous buff to illusion generation and survivability, totally insanely awesome.
MtD is now Master level freeing up another GM in illusions? Incredibly awesome. Buff to scepter attack speed, also very awesome.

It has the same icd as the utility skill.
Ranger runes no longer work with clones or minipet, so I recommend you get scholar runes.
Still worth learning even if it’s just to improve your overall gameplay and teach you to counter those the you see.
