Let's have a new CDI!

With the mid-season break having arrived, I think it’s time that we revived that most glorious of ideas for round 2! We(The players) miss chatting with you guys(The devs) and getting deep about the game mechanics, so please open a new thread for it! I know that the devs are reading, so I really hope that they either open a new CDI thread, or give us details about when it’ll start up again. Any response is much appreciated! For the people reading this, post your suggestions of CDI topic below, just for fun or hopefully for the devs to choose from when the time comes, always good to see where the interest is at.

I haven’t read the previous comments so sorry if this has been suggested already, but how about a slot system? Where you could page through different builds and with each build page there was a slot system where you could store your weapons, sigils, runes, etc. For Skills and Traits you could save them as templates (Ala LoL) and select the specific build from a drop down table? I think this could easily be incorporated to PvP as well. The only problems I see with it is: 1. The complexity and possible overwhelming layout for newcomers (But please don’t hold back on options simply because you’re scared casuals won’t understand it) and 2. It could act as a storage system, which may or may not work out well as a game mechanic…

Everybody wants Scarlet gone, according to the general view of the forums. So, they listen and instead of incorporating lots of time consuming updates to PvE, PvP and WvW, they want to give Scarlet her final performance and try to salvage some of her story and motivations in these last updates for this season. They are going to update WvW and PvP, just now more in a fashion that other MMO’s follow, per month instead of every update. And honestly, I prefer that.

Yes I do understand that calling out specific Anet employees is not allowed, so I will not attempt to do so. Also I also understand that this isn’t the only post out there doing this sort of thing, but I thought that there wasn’t enough love on page one at the moment, so here it is
I love Guild Wars 2 and still actively promote it to my friends. Why?
It doesn’t have a sub fee. It’s inviting for people who don’t want to compete for loot and experience while playing with their friends. It’s inviting for those who want to have massive, strategised and organized battles (Tequatl, WvW). You get experience doing EVERYTHING in the game, so you don’t ever have to grind out that last bit of XP killing trash mobs. It has horizontal progression for its levelling system, I don’t have to get more experience each time I level up to get to the next one, the requirement stays the same. The devs are actively listening to and implementing player ideas and feedback, even in relation to the living story, both in design and pace (Giving us a loooong break, story driven updates to come with a massive content drop afterwards. Also I found that the Nightmare Tower LS was a MASSIVE improvement to previous episodes, having lasting changes to an area, paced out in a non exhaustive manner and having lots of group and soloable content, with decent rewards.).
The CDI.
The CDI.
The CDI.
Quite cool looking armours and skins to work towards, Legendaries, Ascended gear, etc. 5 Man dungeon system that help you find friends quickly, make memories when things go horribly wrong and give you something to do with your guild, besides missions and WvW and the like. And also, finally, the community that they wanted to make since day one: A friendly, co-operative and helpful community in game while exploring the world, fighting monsters and doing events. A community that won’t mind giving out very helpful advice in LA, people that go and help a player do a minor event to help them as well as get rewarded for it.
There are so many reasons to love this game yet people seem to get trapped in the negative way of thinking on the forums that they don’t see why they still play it anymore. I’m excited for the implementations of the CDI in the future, and I can’t wait for the content drop! Yes, this game does have cons too, but don’t only focus on those when giving feedback, The devs are people too. Imagine this was your game that you had created and worked on for years and every time you look on the forums you see nothing but “Why GW2 sucks” and “Why GW1 was better” and “Omg get rid of this”. This just serves to demotivate and hurt the feelings of those who have put so much hard work and effort into the design of this game. Please guys, look to the CDI’s if you need to learn how to give constructive feedback that is actively listened to, and help make this game better instead of constantly complaining about it.
Put yourself in the devs shoes, and give them some love

Why do you continue to limit what we can do in character creation, where we establish the personality of our characters more than anywhere else? Why not just add the faces and hairstyles to the game via the character creation screen as well as the Total Makeover Kits? People who want the new faces on their old characters can do so via the total makeover kits, while those who are new to the game can experience the full force of Guild Wars 2’s character creation options right from the beginning? I am fine with weapon skins in the Gem Store. I am fine with Armour skins in the Gem Store. I am even fine with dyes, convenience items and yes, makeover kits in the Gem Store. I’m fine with all of those things, this is not a rant, but I just want to why you guys insist on locking part of this avenue of the game behind gem purchases?

The issue is the gambling, the core way of obtaining the weapon skins is faulty because you could theoretically spend 2500 gems and still not get a single ticket scrap. That’s insane. It’s not right. It’s not accessible. And it definitely deters players from wanting to buy keys to get the weapon skins. If they have an alternative option that guarantees them the skin they want, then there would be no problem. It’s not that we want the skins with no effort or cost, we just want the effort or cost to be certain, attainable (Not like the halloween weapon skins), and measurable.

Our desire isn’t to just be handed rare weapons and armour cause “Lol we want em kitten ”. No, we just want to be able to work towards our skins with measurable progress. We want to be able to say “I got this much closer to obtaining my molten weapon”. We hate gambling with our money, it’s not healthy, it’s not right. Preferably I would love to be able to either craft or earn the weapons through dungeon tokens, but these BLC claim tickets are just so incredibly rare in the blc’s themselves that the only way to get the weapons you want is to grind gold, or trade gems for gold (And btw that exchange rate is ridiculous). I’m merely asking Anet for a way to obtain these weapons without having to resort to grinding or gambling, but I’m not asking for it to be stupidly easy.

I do wish the weapon skins could be earned instead of bought as well, but honestly I’ll take anything over Black Lion chest rng. I don’t want to have to resort to gold farming for literally every high quality weapon skin out there, I’d love the feeling actually earning these magnificent skins through gameplay, not repetitive zerg farming or dungeon rushing.

I’m not talking about rng concerning the entire game, I’m talking about rng related to my money I’m putting into the game. I’m putting money in the game and hoping I get what I want. That’s gambling. Plain and simple. I can accept rng in game (to a certain degree), but not when it’s related to the money I put in the game. Just because it’s on the tp does not excuse the primary means of obtaining it, it just allows you to deal with it better, which I cannot believe could be accepted as a healthy game or business mechanic.

The skins themselves are awesome and I know plenty of people who would buy them with gems if they could. Anet won’t lose money because of people not buying keys anymore, they’ll actually make more money, and nobody would mind in the slightest!!! These skins are some of the best weapon skins and concepts I’ve ever seen, and it’d be a shame if it becomes nearly impossible to obtain one day because of exclusivity and gambling fears…

Arenanet, I love you, but please allow us to earn these weapon skins in-game without having to:
A: Resort to black lion key farming by doing the personal story again, and again, and again…
B: Spending a large amount of real-world money just for a chance at getting the skin we want. or…
C: Farming hundreds and hundreds of gold to buy the skins off the trading post

To be frank, I hate the black lion chests. They are a horrible system of rewarding your players (in my opinion). Using gems, gold or actual money just for a chance to get a weapon skin is absurd and not what I think anyone wants to do with their money. I know you rely on the sales of black lion keys to fund the game, but why not get rid of the gambling factor, and allow us to buy the skins straight from the gemstore?

Have a new tab for weapon skins, select the theme then choose the skin I don’t care if it costs 500 gems or 1000 gems, the mere idea that we aren’t gambling with our money, time and effort will see that you get much more profit from this.

We understand that you need to make money, and I’m pretty sure that the majority of people playing this game agree that you deserve it, but please allow us to give it to you in an honest, upfront manner. If I like an item on a menu, or a game in a store, or a car in a dealership, I will pay money for it, but I will not pay money for a mere chance to get it.

The logic is simple, and I don’t doubt Anet’s intelligence, this is no troll post at all. I merely ask for some feedback on why this system is so dominant in the game, that gambling must be used to provide the most awesome rewards, instead of upfront cash payments for what we want?

I believe that the rarest of rare items like Mjolnir, Infinite Light, The Eye of Rodgort, Volcanus and precursors should be obtainable without the use of:
1: RNG only
2: Incredible amounts of farming rare materials and monotonous tasks
3: Moneeeeeeh
Items like these should be EARNED, not farmed. Like imagine, plundering a harpy nest or even better a fleshreaver nest-like dungeon for the opportunity to grab one of their weapons, the prized Infinite Light. Or doing an insanely difficult but aesthetically awesome jumping puzzle all the way to the clouds where you somehow grab the fabled Mjolnir. Or even travelling deeper and deeper into the caverns of Mount Maelstrom to retrieve a fiery fang of Primordus, Volcanus. This concept has soooooo much potential. I also like the concept of a dungeon-esque sort of instance, where you can do multiple segments one by one or go through the whole complete run right up to the end. I think this would be PERFECT for rare loot and skins, even black lion exclusive weapons such as fused weapons.
Imagine this example: A massive dungeon in the Deeps, let’s call it the Fleshreaver catacombs, is discovered by Asuran explorers. They contract you to explore and plunder its depths for a reward. The Fleshreavers reproduce very quickly however, so clearing parts of the cavern would be great for them, but temporary, so your reward would be less but still there. Or you could clear the entire dungeon in one go, severely crippling the Fleshreaver’s ability to repopulate the cave, giving the Asurans more time to explore and catalogue their discoveries within. If you complete seperate parts of the dungeon one by one, you’d be rewarded with tokens that you can turn in for good rewards if you amass enough. However, if you complete the entire dungeon in one go (Maybe completing specific and difficult objectives as well), you will receive not a token, but a freshly retrieved Infinite Light from the depths of the Flesh-matriarch’s lair.
I mean, come on…

I had this posted on Gd but they were largely unhelpful, so I pass it onto you guys, sorry I hope you don’t mind if I just copy and paste it here for convenience.

I’m no expert on this at all, let me get that out there first. I’m not all-knowledgable on everything Anet does or the community knows, but I do read the forums alot, and you guessed it, I just read about how much the general forum-posters think anet is doing wrong.
So what would you do? For example, loot. People hated that in most mmo’s you had to compete for loot with others who also hit the mob/resource node. This made most optimal gear tedious to get for your character, but made crafting profitable since the nodes were contested, and made things more valuable on the trading posts, since there were fewer of them. In GW2, they’ve made it possible for everyone to get the loot and resources hassle and conflict free, however that makes crafting just a levelling tool, unprofitable and makes it incredibly simple and cheap to outfit your character with exotic gear at lvl 80. So what would you do to fix both problems?
Or as another example, dungeon/dragon rewards/precursors. People are complaining that there are too few rare rewards in this game that you can go into LA, link into the chat and have a couple hundred players either be immediately instilled with jealousy or grovelling to kiss your feet (Slight use of exaggeration, but you get my point). But what would you want as a method for rare gear to be introduced in the optimal manner to obtain? Nobody likes RNG, rare 0.0000005% drops from stupidly easy or difficult bosses, because people want to know that for each hour or two they put into the game they are making tangible progress in their pursuit for the thing they want. Nobody likes grinding for tokens either however, they just see it as a repetitive waste of time doing the same achievement over and over again, they want a one time thing to have an epic reward, and be tangibly progressive. However, that leaves us with scavenger hunts/super tough boss battles/one time events that the player has to complete only once or twice to obtain their “Epic” piece of equipment… but that defeats the point, since if it’s just one thing that people have to do, no matter how long it is, people are going to find the optimal or easiest and fastest way to finish that objective, and sooner or later you’ll see everyone running around with epic gear, making them lose their epic feel.
So, as a community, what are your thoughts on how Anet could make rare gear and loot acquisition a fun, progressive, non-gambling yet intensely challenging and truly “Legendary” experience that won’t be immediately exploited and achieved by those with 100000000000 gold?

RNG for some items makes sense. but not for others.

Consider a system wherein the most precious items are obtained through feats of skill rather than luck. Or at the very least, involve workable goals that dont include heavy amounts of RNG. Ascended weapons and the dungeon armor sets are a good example of this, and while im not a massive fan of the time-gated ascended crafting, it’s still fully manageable, and very few if any of the items involved in the crafting require me to be lucky.

Now compare that to a legendary, in which you absolutely have to be lucky, or you have to spend a lot of gold to buy something from someone who was lucky. This doesnt make a whole lot of sense!

Items like precursors, or even some of the cooler exotic weapons, should be created in a similar way to the ascended items, or through other challenging tasks. Additionally, if you have hard content, it’s alright to make them guaranteed to give epic loot. Consider if tequatl always gave at least 1 exotic or even ascended, given that it’s quite difficult, that would in my mind be a better system.

RNG drops from normal monsters, and even just world champions is fine. I like the bag system that pretty much assures you at least some profit, and the idea behind being able to get lucky off a random monster has it’s appeal. The issue is when you move this RNG system to drops that deserve to be based around a players skill, or some other quantitative measure that isnt just luck. So RNG isnt always a bad thing. but you shouldnt be forced to rely on it if you ever want to obtain the “best” items. That’s a very very silly system.

I like this train of thought very much, yes monster drops should still be based on RNG, but I believe that the rarest of rare items like Mjolnir, Infinite Light, The Eye of Rodgort, Volcanus and precursors should be obtainable without the use of:

1: RNG only
2: Incredible amounts of farming rare materials and monotonous tasks
3: Moneeeeeeh

Items like these should be EARNED, not farmed. Or even travelling deeper and deeper into the caverns of Mount Maelstrom to retrieve a fiery fang of Primordus, Volcanus. This concept has soooooo much potential. I also liked the concept earlier mentioned of a dungeon-esque sort of instance, where you can do multiple segments one by one or go through the whole complete run right up to the end. I think this would be PERFECT for rare loot and skins, even black lion exclusive weapons such as fused weapons.

They give players a goal to achieve, and thus reward them with the skin they prefer and the player respect they desire. If you take rarity away, and just give everyone every weapon, people would run out of goals very quickly…

Quite right. But that’s only true if you base your rewards on finite content (i.e. armors and weapons still have to be made by someone). It’s the fallacy that plunges most MMOs to lock down their rewards behind a +10 Concrete Wall of Mindless Grind.

One way to solve this, as I mentioned, is to lock desirable content behind extremely challenging content (which is hard to do in itself), but even then, a very good number of players will eventually rise to the challenge. Still, it’s an improvement over grinding.

I don’t think bragging rights and rare items are a worthy goal in any way. These are illusory goals – although you want to reach them, there’s no satisfaction once you have them. Ultimately it’s a form of betrayal, and no player appreciates it.

But players do need a goal to work towards. What’s important to remember is that goal doesn’t have to be loot. What can it be instead? Well, everything else in the game, really. You just need to think outside of the MMO box a bit when you start designing your game.

What would you say would be a good new type of goal to work towards? Anet already said that they’ll be adding new traits and skills to progress towards, but I don’t think that’s what you’re getting at essentially?

Well in terms of legendary weaps (ie precursor) they could design something like DoA (Domain of Anguish for those who don’t know) in GW1. This would take some work but that was an elite repeatable area that could be run in segments or as a complete run. At the end of each sub-mission on the run, you got a chest that awarded several types of gems. you had to amass a certain number of each of type then exchange them for Armbrace of truth, which then u could exchange for Torment weapons. or other special items like Mallyx mini , the main boss on the run.

For scavenger hunt, they could do something similar and make it so its not easy to get but you know that eventually you will get it if u stick with it. in gw1 those gems were tradable too. the gem drops from chest were random so sometime you would get more of one type than the other and u could trade with players for those you’re missing or simply sell them for money.
I thought that was a good system. it was flexible and they could also add other type of items you could acquire with those gems or w/ever such as t6 or t7 mats, if u already had a precursor and didn’t want another one. it would make such an area viable forever more.

I like the idea of a challenging elite player area that most players won’t be able to access easily but would reward those who can enter it heavily, however that would just kitten off the majority of more casual players. I consider myself as a casual player, my latency bars me from PvP, my skill is not nearly as great as most “Hardcore” players, and I don’t have the time or dedication (Or desire) to run the most profitable thing in the game over and over and over again for money and rare loot drops. As a casual, I play the game for fun (Not saying hardcore players don’t), and if I’m getting bored I try and shake things up a bit, maybe play on an alt, try something challenging, etc.
What I’m getting at here is that if challenging elite player only content is introduced most players who’ll want a precursor/legendary/rare skin will feel like they’re left out and will never get to have that content because they don’t live drink and eat GW2. Look at Tequatl for instance. Yes there are guilds who run him constantly and obtain great rewards for it, but… it’s only the guilds who run him constantly that actually run him at all. Normal PUGs and randoms, no matter how well they know the encounter, will never be able to kill Tequatl consistently without a voice chat system and a core group of super organised players with optimal builds for their roles. Don’t get me started on overflows… the point is that the encounter is just too inaccessible and too much effort to complete.
Now that is only group content, it is a dragon fight, I’m not complaining about the diffiiculty of Tequatl. I’m just using an example of elitist content. Those without the skill or latency who want the content baaaaadly, will never get it.
I think I’m going a little off-track :P But hey, it’s a discussion, let’s discuss. I think for each rare weapon or piece of gear or whatever (In the ideal world), maybe there should be a combination of all three mechanics: a bit of random luck, a scavenger hunt and token collecting. Random luck for rarity and ZOMG I’M SO LUCKY (There is so much merit to that feeling alone), the scavenger hunt as incredibly difficult content that rewards you for every bit of progress you make, and the tokens as an alternative to the “elitist” or difficult content. 3 ways to get it, three ways to satisfy every player out there. Yes there will be players that will still say “Oh but that’s too much effort, GW2 is a game not a job”, but the point of rare weapons is that they must NOT be easy to get, there SHOULD be a challenge involved. People just don’t like the randomness of RNG, the grind of token collecting and the difficulty or tediousness of scavenger hunting. So give them all three

Everything is perfect the way it is.

White-knighting in a nutshell.

Everyone else may refer here for a detailed explanation of what’s not quite perfect with the RNG.

OP, the answer to that has historically been introduction of Crafting, but that has its own pitfalls. Usually the right answer involves not having extremely rare drop-rates in the first place, as in regulating extreme rarity of content by locking it behind behind extremely challenging one.

Personally, I would not seek to create extremely rare items in the first place. I see no value in producing something the only value of which comes from its rarity.

Draco, thank you for providing feedback. Rare loot is needed in MMO’s for either stat superiority, looks, and/or bragging rights. Because of Anet’s stance on gear stats, the only things left are looks and bragging rights. They give players a goal to achieve, and thus reward them with the skin they prefer and the player respect they desire. If you take rarity away, and just give everyone every weapon, people would run out of goals very quickly as there is no challenge or incentive to get the items you want other than for looks. People would finish their goals quickly, finish how they want all their chars to look and leave as they feel they’ve finished with the game, leaving LA a ghost town. Rarity as a whole I believe is needed, but also the manner in which it is incorporated must be reasonable and achievable, and definitely challenging. But how? What system would reward without feeling like a grind, a farm, or a once off trivial thing to complete? I was thinking maybe the same system used to create Shadowmourne in WotLK, but I have to research that again as I have forgotten the mechanics, and also it may take a very very large amount of time and effort to design such systems for every rare weapon….

RNG has the same argument as gambling, yes it has it’s merits, but it’s still gambling. People don’t like it when they waste their time, money and effort on something that potentially may never occur for them. I’m sure we all can agree on the fact that we’d prefer to be able to measure our progress as opposed to just throwing our offerings to the RNG gods, but then the issues I highlighted above come into play. The rewards are great, the mechanics are challenging, and if you know what to do the dungeon is not too hard. All in all, I’d say it’s a job well done Anet Thank you for the fun.

New chars can't get new hairstyles? Why?!

I’m upset because this is something that should be available at the character creation screen, enhancing the options of how to make your character look and moulding their identity from the beginning should be something that Anet should want to provide for free. I’m fine with the expensive weapon and armour skins. I’m fine with experience boosts. I’m fine even with dye packs and even with character makeover kits. But I do not understand why they would make something so fundamental to character design something you have to buy? Not even buy to unlock forever, but just plain buy once use once. Maybe I am the only one who is disappointed that the hairstyles aren’t free. Maybe I am the only one who thinks that a nicer way of doing this was to make style kits cheaper for the next while for existing chars to access them and to make them free at character creation. I bought this game as a B2P game where it would get consistent updates that added things to the game, not add them purely to make money. This is something that should be free, plain and simple. Please don’t go down the SWTOR route of locking future character customization options and races behind the gem store… Yes I know Anet needs to make money, but they have stated multiple times that these microtransactions are powering the game quite well. With Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s coming up they are still going to make loads of money, this hairstyle gem-lock is honestly a money-grabbing move, and I hate using that word to describe Anet

What is up with that? They are new hair styles added to the game, why would you lock them behind gem-purchases…? I’m sorry, I defend Anet alot lately but this is just nonsense. My fiance and I both opened up one of our char slots just in anticipation of the new hair styles…. now we’re just… dismayed, speechless, and quite disgusted.

All of the above and:
1. The Sylvari concept
2. The Sylvari redesign
3. The Sylvari everything. Honestly, they are the most incredible, fresh race I’ve ever seen in a game, their artwork, anatomy, lore and overall design is simply magnificent and I love every bit about them (Except for Trahearne)

What music do you listen to when playing GW2?

Maybe this thread will be moved to Linksville, maybe not, either way, what music do you guys listen to while slaying the monsters of tyria?
(Please don’t post any troll vids, offensive links, bash on anybody’s musical interests, or just plain old being mean.)

Personally I love listening to the music this guy has compiled, a beautiful mix of classical-dubstep-whateveritis-epicness that’s pretty much captured by the video description on youtube :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4un7Jedpicg
He has multiple other compilations like this, I do not take any credit whatsoever for the youtube video or its contents. If you want to download the songs of his, he has uploaded them here: https://soundcloud.com/versusofficial

Skin Vault anytime soon?

What, and introduce sensible cosmetic progression into the game? No. No, no, no.

Players shouldn’t have a reason to seek out new skins. They know they’d either lose their already transmuted gear or have to buy new transmutation stones just to equip their newly-earned gear. This fear and inconvenience is what keeps players from continuing to seek out different content in the game after level 80, and you want to change that? I think we’re much better-off farming the same bosses, same events, and same dungeons instead of always having a new shinies to look forward to in different parts of the world.

Look, this feature works absolutely perfectly for dyes, even maintaining a healthy and costly niche for them on the player market, so there’s just no reason it will work for armor and weapons in the same vein. None.

Not sure if using sarcasm or…..

Skin Vault anytime soon?

Anet, are there any plans to add a skin vault in the future? I’m not asking for a specific date or whether it will be soon or not, but I’d like to know whether I should store all my skins, buy more bank slots to keep them and never use them until a vault-like feature makes an appearance, or if I just shouldn’t bother. This game being marketed as an aesthetic based game with no gear grind (Not getting into anything here, please all comments stay away from disappointment posts) has plenty of weapon and armor options, but currently one lacks the freedom to simply customize your character’s appearance using armor aesthetics and weapon aesthetics they used to have, and I find that quite a pity I know Colin said in an interview at Pax(?) with MattVisual that that was something he also finds a pity, but I’d just like to know from anybody else if this is actually being worked on or not?

tl;dr: Is a “Skin Vault” or something akin to that in development or on a development list atm? Thank you in advance for your time.

Aurora Glade proudly got her down to 75% hp, got no loot whatsoever, only got her to the first laser stage, and I noticed a bug with the turrets, that they get stuck in an animation sometimes and can’t do anything for that time =/ Otherwise I love the challenge and the fun it was

How is this a constructive post? You’re giving out hate speech and saying that Foreman’s honesty is bad? And my post is supposed to get locked, sheesh… I didn’t post this thread to begin a discussion about how bad the game is, that the dev’s must get started or to move their butts and start working, that Foreman is gonna get fired, none of that conspiracy whatnot junk. I posted this thread to just show my admiration and gratefulness to ArenaNet and it’s developers as a whole, and my sympathy for Josh who must be going through a hard time. I don’t hate any of the devs, I know for a fact that they are doing their best to make a game that we all will love and enjoy and spend time in. I wish this community wasn’t so toxic that ArenaNet is scared of allowing it’s employees to talk freely on the forums, because of all the negativity, hate and harm the community will post on the forums in return. I’m sorry if my post is supposed to get deleted, I’m sorry if I get somebody in trouble, I’m sorry if I’ve “Called out” anybody in a bad way or method or whatnot. I’m just here trying to say thank you to the people who have made this game my favourite game of all time, and I’m just trying to get their spirits up a little. Are you going to help me with that, or do you want to bring this company’s spirits down?

Edited: Thank you, so much.

I have reread the forum conduct rules and will gladly change the topic if an ArenaNet mod instructs me to do so, however I don’t believe it to be a breach as it does not engage in any personal attacks, disrespect any person, and does not inhibit the cultivation of a user-friendly environment. However if my understanding of the Forum Code of Conduct in this regard is flawed I will happily change the topic of the post when/if instructed to do so. Also, thank you for all the responses I’m hoping a dev sees this post and all the love for them in it.

I’m very sure that they’re always reading the forums and I am CERTAIN they know what the players think they’re doing wrong. If they responded to every single post in the name of visibility, they’d never get to actually work on what the players are asking for. Yes they should listen to the negative criticism, but what I’m sick of is ONLY seeing negative criticism with no constructive feedback. It’s time the forums got a little more positivity in them, that might actually entice them to speak on the forums more. Right now it’s like they’re Batman: Silently watching the city of Gotham tearing itself apart with chaos and unhappiness, while they do their best to save it in the shadows while the public reviles them.

To the rest of ArenaNet’s staff (Who I don’t know so well), this game is fantastic. The Living World got off to a rough start, but you have learned and applied many lessons to the future instalments and it is starting to look much better and more polished as time goes on. The game does have glitches, zerker armour is annoyingly viable, dungeons and world bosses are too easy, many classes and races need some love and attention and the story needs a bit more progression.
HOWEVER it’s only your first year, and a hugely controversial and experimental one at that. The amount of attention you guys have been paying to players wishes and needs is monumental, and the balancing act you are trying to achieve satisfying all different player types is a largely underrated undertaking. I trust the dev team with this incredible game’s potential, and I know that a year or two from now most or all of these issues will be history. The living world initiative is a tough one, and there will be many vocal and unsatisfied forumers raging about the games “Inevitable end”. Take it with a pinch of salt, and know that there are thousands more players who actually like and enjoy the game’s direction.
This MMO is unique in so many ways, everything you guys are doing is new and different. Things will be difficult to balance, but you are working on it. Things will be hard to implement, but you are trying anyways. Players are hard to please, but you will succeed.
I might be the only one who has this opinion, and this post might get completely ignored just because of it’s length, but I at the very least hope that you guys see that this one player enjoys and appreciates all the hard work you guys are putting into this game I look forward to what this game will become, and look forward to this year to come

tl;dr: Thank you ArenaNet, thank you.

Edited: Thank you, so much.

I came back to GW2 and I realised I was away from home. The world was beautiful, the gamers were actually FRIENDLY (Bar the forums of course), the combat satisfying, and so much was added since I had left. Achievement points were awesome now! People were running around with jetpacks and axes on fire, tentacles writhing from their backs, shatterer wings flapping at the Mystic Forge, I was jealous of all the time I spent away from my favourite game, I felt like I betrayed it :P So I’m back for good now and all I hear on the forums is people complaining and insulting and threatening to leave the game. You find that in every MMO forum. HOWEVER, when SAB came around I got a little annoyed with how people reacted.
Josh Foreman was trying to control the flak he was barraged with about the game being too difficult, how he’s a heartless money-grabber and whatnot. I played SAB w1 and w2 the other day for the first time, and I have to admit, it was challenging, it was difficult, but not NEARLY to the extent that everyone was exaggerating it to. W1 was easier than w2, sure. But not by as huge a margin as the forums seemed to depict.
Josh, you poured your heart and soul into working on SAB, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I loved all the references to my favourite old school games, I loved the humour of the shopkeepers, I even laughed in Tribulation Mode sometimes (Possibly out of manic insanity at that point). I do believe that you were horrendously treated by the overall forum community, and for that I am sorry.
On behalf of all those who were busy playing and enjoying your creation in-game instead of shouting their displeasure and non-constructive criticism at you, I applaud you and your passion towards this game. I appreciate all the hours you put into the game and every jumping puzzle I do I compare to SAB and Clocktower. As a jumping puzzle addict I LOVED all the little additions in SAB, the water geysers, the logs, crocs and rapids I repeatedly died in, the flower boosters, even the bosses. For those who don’t enjoy jumping puzzles, the infantile mode was very much enjoyable (My fiancé thanks you dearly for that), and for those who needed more of a challenge Tribulation Mode was something that got them to concentrate for once
I believe that you thought of every type of player when you were working those late hours on this, and I truly believe you were crushed hearing all that negative feedback on the forums. I’d just like to let you know that those are not the ONLY opinions on SAB and that many many many people enjoyed the hell out of this living story release. Thank you for enriching this game with your passion and dedication Josh, don’t let all of this nonsense stop you or your passion from doing great things in this game or in real life

Edited: Thank you, so much.

I started playing Guild Wars 2 back when the game first launched, when achievement points were worthless and 100 gems were worth 50 silver. I played through the first few patches, I grinded my face against the mad kings clocktower until I could do all the jumps with ease and no tears, I entered a few guilds, I had a few laughs, I had so so much fun with this new, beautiful and bright game
Southsun cove came along. The area was massive and beautiful, full of little nooks and crannies to explore and be amazed by, new jumping puzzles that would infuriate me to no end, incredibly monstrous enemies, veterans that I couldn’t solo! Southsun Cove was a hint at where this game could go in the future. Then the karka event happened, I wasted 6 hours through lag, disconnect, disconnect, lag, crash, overflow, overflow and yet another disconnect WHILE in an overflow followed by a crash. I complained on the forums expecting to never get any compensation at all.
BUT THEY LISTENED. I got a Karka chest in the mail and got an exotic backpiece, they said they would remember their mistakes from that event and believe it or not they DID address those sort of issues about one time events Afterwards I was still slightly annoyed by the whole thing and got more immersed in real life, other games, etc. Then I tried playing SWTOR. The game that said FREE FREE FREE but ingame told you otherwise. You weren’t allowed to trade, you had to compete for loot with your friends, hell you couldn’t even create your first character without seeing how many races are locked to you =/ I kept remembering how GW2 didn’t extort money out of you or wave a red flag cause you don’t subscribe, how they said they would like to do a living world initiative, free huge patches every month, something MMO players usually dream about.

Was playing from the start of the event, to the part where I could literally not log in anymore, for about 3 hours. I found I was able to log in this morning. So here I am, the morning after the event, after one system crash, 4 game client crashes, 3 dc’s and about 6 different overflows, here I am where I was fighting the final boss battle, where hundreds of players around the world all opened a magestic and magnifecent chest which contained precursors, Exotics and more… Here I am, after finally being able to log in, right where we were fighting the final boss battle… and I have nothing. After 3 hours of hard work, sweat, toil and armor repairs, I get nothing. This is more painful with the knowledge that this was the last time I was able to play Guild Wars for about a week before I go on Matric vacation, which means I will probably not be able to receive any compesation by the time I get back. Thank you Arena net, the event seemed like fun. But I didn’t have any of it.
