Yea kitten the runes, what we need is an elite trap and more importantly a stun break and condi cleanse available in the build. Stun break should be on one of the traps (probably spike trap) and condi cleanse could either go on flame trap or be added to a weapon skill like a lot of other professions.

It was just totally not what I expected. I mean we basically projected ourselves into his mind and… well mind kittened him. But yea just thought it was funny what with the wyverns in Verdant being the closest thing to a dragon we actually fought.

u want druid to be great healer and damage?

in Ranger

Scott.7163

It’s not that it needs to be good at damage, it just needs to not be useless in a damage orientated build.

Curious if you mean useless for PVE. Because I can’t find that much large sustain via heals to be useless elsewhere.

Anyway~!

Worst case scenario for one group is that it has good heals but crap damage.

Worst case scenario for the other group is that they add damage and now the heals for those who enjoyed it aren’t very good anymore for proper balance.

Not really sure how people will find a win-win in this. I want to though. I’m hoping the damage will come through as Condi damage really. It’s a 1 stat requirement vs power which needs Fero and Precision. It would a very spread thin hybrid build that doesn’t do much of anything that well.

I speak with sPvP in mind. As I said they don’t need to add damage to the Druid it just needs something useful. At the moment the heals are good with no healing power which is why they want to change it, which is fine. On top of the currently good healing, the Druid has 2 traits I really like, Ancient Seeds and Natural Stride. They don’t add any damage or healing it’s more utility.

To be honest, it will probably be fine if they just change the healing numbers. The utility is still there, but it might need a bit more added to keep it worth it. And they need to make the glyphs better, they just don’t feel worth taking.

Druid and Healing Power Scaling

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

On a more serious note I do agree that at times it feels like across the board base heals might be a bit too much but I also feel like it’s harder to balance while keeping the philosophy of “you don’t really need a healer to do stuff”… even tho raids look like you do in fact need a healer, but we’ll see!

-10% heals across the board might sound small, but I think it would have a huge impact. For better or for worse.

If they want to do this exclusively for raids I might be ok with this. But outside of that? No. Because the rest of the game you are supposed to not have to lug a healer around to do content.

Gearing for a couple hundred points of heal power is not “lugging a healer around with you.”

It is putting a boot on the Zerker’ metas neck and pressing down.

It is putting a neck on ZERKER RANGER’s neck. All the other classes will still be running zerkers. Engineers can run sinister because they’re the supreme condi spec far above others.

This change will strictly punish offensive rangers who want to make use of their elite spec.

The whole idea of druid just being a healing spec is what’s so thoroughly offensive to me. Why? I’m really wondering why rangers, who have kept asking for improved damage and offensive support, were given in turn a healbot spec as a tongue in cheek answer to lack of team support.

No other class has their elite spec so thoroughly focused on a niche. Chronomancer, reaper, and scrapper can build for DPS, bunker, or support. The druid is the only spec where you are told “you heal, that’s it. If you try to be offensive, you’ll be a crappy hybrid”.

That last paragraph. That. So much that.

Basically instead of having the traits be organised in to 3 categories such as “Damage, support and control” for example, they will be sorted in to “Heal by X, Heal by Y and Heal by Z” how exciting…

The pet should also get the effects of Natural Stride trait IMO. Praying for the day they add Strike as One from GW1 (Shadow step pet to enemy) to eliminate some of its stupid ai, bad pathing and slowness.

I would also prefer if Druidic Clarity trait gave stability on entering CAF, even if it meant less condi removal (remove 5 conditions, gain 3 stacks of stability for 5 seconds maybe?)

At this point, 3+ years on, I feel the whole class needs to be completely gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Sure, every now and then we make a step forward, but every other class has made 2 or 3 in the same time. Druid has not solved this problem. It’s a shame.

So far this is what I have to say (talking from a spvp standpoint).

Live vicariously trait doesn’t trigger on regeneration, signet of the wild or natural healing trait.

Lingering light trait seems to trigger on more than just healing.

Cultivated synergy doesn’t appear in the combat log.

Overall when using druid I feel forced into using the staff and going heavy towards healing just so I can make use of the celestial form.

It doesn’t seem to bring enough to the profession, I find myself thinking I’d be better off with a different specialisation line most the time, this has to do with how useful beastmastery is (almost feel forced to take it just to make the pet even slightly useful). I would rather have my condi removal from wilderness survival, I would rather have nature magic for support and I would rather have beastmastery over everything (to make beastmastery less needed I think 30% increased movement speed should be baseline for pet).

The whole healing idea I feel doesn’t work. There is just TOO much damage getting thrown about for it to be a viable choice. Guardian will still be a better bunker because of all its blocks, blinds and invulns, it doesn’t need the ridiculous healing we get cause it’s not taking the damage in the first place.

That’s my initial thoughts on Druid.

EDIT: It’s also very susceptible to cc, a stun break on a glyph would be nice.

Curious: I’m still at work. Have you guys played with WHaO yet since the change? I’ll be trotting out my Ranger tonight, but I wondered if you’re basing your thoughts on statistics — which I can respect — or on playtime — which also is valuable.

Well it would be nice to base it on statistics but the skill doesn’t actually list the boon durations. That said after a little testing it seems to be in line with our “Fortifying Bond” trait which is what the more sceptical of the ranger community had first anticipated. It’s okay. As I said previously in the thread, this skill wasn’t really in need of a buff in my opinion.

Should the Ranger's health pool be increased?

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

Anet does have that pattern of at least one class in each of the armor tiers having a low, medium, and high health pool. I know I’m going to get flack for saying this, but I think Engineers deserve the high health pool over Rangers.

hides

I agree. Rangers have better condition removal than engineers, although we are pigeon holed in to taking certain skills and traits. This makes me think engies deserve it more, but we rangers are in a worse spot so maybe we deserve it for that. Then again as was said previously, higher health aint gonna fix us…

Clarion Bond is fine

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

It’s not fine, when you swap pets the pet you swap to doesn’t get the boons, even with fortifying bond it only gets the 1 stack of might from clarions bond. The pet also doesn’t get opening strike from remorseless (which it should due to the fury you get).

Clarion Bond: Nerfed

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

The worst part is it applies before the new pet is swapped in, so it doesn’t get any of the boons and it doesn’t get remorseless.

I hadn’t realized that bit – that is not cool. Does the pet still get the boons from Clarion Bond indirectly via Fortifying Bond?

Just tested in the heart of the mists, with fortifying bond, remorseless, clarion bond and zephyr’s speed the pet you swap to will have 4 stacks of might and quickness. So fortifying bond is giving it the measly 1 stack of might from clarions bond but not the fury or swiftness and as I said before no opening strike either.

Clarion Bond: Nerfed

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

The worst part is it applies before the new pet is swapped in, so it doesn’t get any of the boons and it doesn’t get remorseless. Which would be amazing because the canine pets can crit over 5k with the first skill they use (brutal charge) and having that as a guaranteed crit gives a really cool play to the pet swap.

In fact I feel pets should get opening strike on being swapped regardless of remorseless but whatever, all things anet will never change and we will have to make do with the poor implementation we have been given.

I have tried to hit the 3 points raised in various posts and the one it fails on most is mobility, I have used signet of the hunt to try and combat that but it’s still nothing compared to an ele/mesmer/thief. I find the power damage, condi damage and survivability are all pretty decent, however I don’t know how it would handle a higher level of play. Feedback and questions appreciated and welcomed.

As someone who has always taken empathic bond as well as SotF in my bunker build, this thread has opened my eyes to a world free from the terrible pet killing trait that is empathic bond and has lead me to diversify my play.

Just a couple of things I don’t think I’ve seen.

Firstly, I want to be able to see what conditions and buffs my pet has without having to target it. Same as the player, just some added UI so it’s easy to tell when my pet has a lengthy cripple and I can make the choice to swap it out so I can actually be hitting the enemy (among other reasons).

Secondly, the pet is AI, anywhere else in the game when AI faces a large number of enemies it is scaled up, do this for the pet (don’t make them hit any harder, just boost survivability) and zerg warfare is no longer a problem in wvw for rangers.

Random Pet Mechanic Idea

in Ranger

Posted by: Scott.7163

Scott.7163

Now I know there’s is absolutely no chance of this idea ever coming to pass but I thought I would share it with everyone any ways.

So I thought instead of having pets we have something like a spiritual attunement (to an animal) and we can choose 2 similar to how we have 2 pets and also similarly only one can be active. So F4 would swap attunement and F1, F2 and F3 would be skills based on that attunement. Now for the beast masters there would be 4 news utilities added to replace the pet shouts, these would summon pets based on your attunement and perhaps do some other cool stuff.

That’s basically it, and kind of rips off elementalist and norn ideas but meh. I only came up with this cause I was thinking about how I don’t think some mechanics should be in the game (like stealth, it doesn’t really bring much to the table other than frustration) and relying on AI can be a pain but it can also be fun so I thought it just needed toning down to something that wasn’t a necessity.
