OK not sure if bug or I’m clueless…
OK… stop laughing I already know I’m clueless.
I got the Initiate pack from the storyline in HOT, and after I complete a chapter I get a pack strap, (will upgrade automatically) and then a buckle (again with the upgrade)
However the pack is sitting in my inventory unused, nothing happened no upgrades. and I didn’t get the strap or the buckle in inventory.
So is this a bug or will the upgrade happen when I finally equip the pack. I mean why equip a rare pack when I’m wearing an exotic.
Its mostly either NVidia related, especially under Win10 … or contact problems
or whatever that the GPU doesn’t run @x16.Posting a picture with GPUz and CPUz while GW2 is running in the back often

Re-seating my Vidja card fixed it.
It’s funny that this was my only game that had the FPS issue from it though. And only after upgrading to WIN 10. But I guess that just goes to show how vastly different ways there are to address the video cards. either that or computer Voodoo, It’s A thing, I’ve seen it many times in my 20 years of working IT.

My question is when HoT is release if there is going to be an engine fix to upgrade the DirectX version used, or is there a way, say .ini tweek to change the DX the engine defaults to?
Now the reason.
I’ve upgraded my machine to Win 10 pro. Same hardware Win 7/ Win 8.1.
My 770gtx auto chose highest settings in game. No FPS problems. LA average mid 30s even at the most crowded times. Empty zone upto 90+fps
Now Win10 highest settings LA I average 4fps an empty zone I can get upto mid 20s
Move the settings to mid/low and I average 11fps LA and 40-50s in an empty zone.
I’ve checked NVidia, the Manufacturer, GW, and even other games, and manufacturers Forums and FAQs.
This is a very common issue, from everything I am seeing it is because Win10 DX only emulates DX9 and does not actually support it, unless you can find the old DX9 SDK (full offline installer not web installer) and install it. I personally have not been able to do such.
I mean I lubs me GW2 and would just like to get it back to its video gloriousness.
The mouth of this JP is simply ridiculous again.
This happened back at the beginning of the Scarlett adventures, or about that time and was fixed.
It needs to be fixed again. If you do not hit the 1 pixel safe spots on the way down you pinball and die, before hitting the bottom. The ledges along the way down used to cause damage and stop you, so you could wait and heal if you hit them, now they just bounce you off to the next and wham bam two hit fatal combo.
Not even the oops you missed the water at the bottom and splatted. please fix.
It should not take 20 tries and give up, or mesmer tag teams with resurect orbs to safely get to the bottom.
And before people start in about I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve been doing this JP since beta, and know it’s been broke before and fixed before.

Did the previous GW1 expansions or stand-alones come with content patches too, or is this what came with them out of the box? I don’t recall too many games back then with huge content patches, but I could be mistaken on this.
Yes, GW1 did have content patches, and events. Not to mention the near continuous balancing of characters. Patching bugs the crept up. They patched so often, I don’t think they had a scheduled path day.
It also when released had live updates, Meaning it would update the game while you were playing and only when done or at a map change did you need to log out to the login screen.

I went out and happily plunked down my $39 for it, It also was a complete game, you did not need the original Guild wars to play it. While it was built on the same engine, and existed in the same universe, it was a separate and completely independent game.
It came with 4 character slots, and 8 classes, and took us to Cantha.

Now with both of the “Expansions” being they were not really an expansion but a full game, if you already had an account, the ANET would join the 2 games, in that you could share storage but the characters could not travel between the two. ANET also gave you 2 character slots out of the 4 to link the account.

Now this was truly an expansion, you had to have one of the three previous versions to play it, and you got to take your characters to the North, It introduced us to the Asura, and the Norn. It also allowed your characters to visit the other lands, providing you had that game. It was available buy itself for typically $29 at release and dropped in price. After it was officially announced that ANET was working on GW2 you could get EotN with one of the core (GW,Factions, or Nightfall) for $29-$39
Now I purchased it in an Ultimate pack, it came with the Core GW, Factions, Nightfall, and Eotn and I payed all of $19 And because I was adding the Core GW I got 2 more character slots for a total of 8.
Now, I see all sorts of posts about rage over HoT. And I look at what is offered, and I remember. In fact, I bet a lot of Veterans who played GW1 remember even if they don’t articulate it. I understand the rage, because it seems ANET has forgotten us Veterans.
Now people talk about price, some for some against. In truth its only about price to a few. Its about being forgot about. And for many of us long term Guild Wars vets, HoT makes us feel like the older dog( sorry to those that are offended by being called a dog in this analogy) whose boy keeps playing the neighbors puppies. He’s interested in only the new and shiny, While we want to play with the new and shiny too, but also get the love we’ve been getting, before those yappity puppies came along.

I want to finish the LW story goto mysterious cave, but oh wait I can’t the skritt tunnels are closed. and the mission to clear the skritt area of bandits is not up. Goto the skritt ambassador and he says oh you can open them if you help us. but this does not start the mission.
Devs, Pro tip. Never design an area that is required for stories or mission/quests that has player lock outs, that prevent player from accessing area when they want/ need to complete story/mission.
Far silverwastes has just that it can only be accessed by the skritt tunnels. There should be a way point in side that area, so once you make it there you can get back if the tunnels are closed so you can finish the story line.
It would not be so bad if talking to the ambassador would spawn the clear out bandit mission every time the tunnels are closed, but it doesn’t.
the original design of locking out area until completing specific story parts is fine because once that story part is complete you can access it
The leyline hub is fine because simply kill the inquest blocking the way and you get access.

OK, I took advantage of the GW sale and bought a second account for my wife to try.
I’ve been in since beta.
Now the new account has some UI issues.
granted the char is only level 10 and I know some things are revealed with level, and if thats the case what level do these show up or how do we turn these back on I’ve looked through the options menu and cannot find it.
World map Completion, or even zone completion, This does not show up at all.

This would strike me as a network saturation issue. being the problem last time went away around 2am EDT.
Anet you might want to have your ISP/ Host company talk to their channel providers about the issue.
It may be something as simple as a router port beginning to fail or a miss configured route. Or it could be something else that is only noticed when traffic is at saturation levels (Patch day)
I suggest this because I used to be a network admin guy and presently work for a server hosting company, with ties to cogent, ATT, Comcast and I forget who else for the 150GB fiber pipes in and out of the company

I moved 1 step at a time all over the bush and did not see a shiny,
nor got an interact message.
And well if you have to be at exactly the specific x:y on the map to get an interact,
it needs to be fixed.
OK, I completed the enchanted treasure map.
click on it and goto the spot in lions arch.
search around the bush and the whole boulder looking for the shiny, to interact with…
and I cannot find it it’s not there.
TL:DR- please make the both the Event/LWS helper pointer either always available for both or switchable between the 2
OK so all my chars have completed the Personal story, and only 1 has completed the living story. 1 completed their personal story so far before the LW stuff came in that the LWS didn’t automatically start.
Now the thing is Those 2 chars enter a map and the pointer will show near by events in the map. Every other char gets stuck on the LW mission they are on.
Please let me have either both of these in the UI or allow me to switch.
Apparently I can’t quit doing the LWS stuff because if I do it automatically starts the last episode on the characters that have started but not completed the entire LW.
Ah… Is there a list of those achievements somewhere by any chance?

Ok So I completed the entire season 2 on 1 char.
Now I’m going through and working through in stages on my other chars.
In entanglement I went through “discovering scarlets break through”
First char got the Canon and Steam minitaur achieves.
Both my other chars I try to get the “No Tricks” achievement and nothing.
I know I’m late to the game with this but is it bugged, or is there something else then no using the cannon or steam minataur?
OK I know the title is a little ????
But what I am asking for is All those pretty little items that have been added to the game for crafting, or currency that are now permanent. Be given either crafting inventory slots or currency slots in the bank/wallet. To free up, those inventory slots and make them nicer to use cross characters.
You know what I’m talking about.
Those foxfire clusters and blade shards to the material storage locker.
And all those Geodes and Bandit Crests moved to the Wallet
these are now permanent items in the game so lets treat them as such.
While I’m asking
can we also put the Dubloons and Mystic forge stones in the material storage locker as well? I mean I have 247 Mystic forge stones, That I’ve gotten from various daily and story completion drops over the past 2+ years. 3 more and I have a second bank slot taken up for something I don’t use. Sure at some point I might, but right now it’s taking up a bank slot for a crafting item.
I also Would really like it if the New additional zones coming up would;
A) use existing game currencies
or
B) have their currencies added to the wallet at release.

Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?
The idea of a living world is a double edged sword.
Yes the players are changing the face of the world, but the down fall is the living story is changing the face of the world. This is directly effecting things that pre-existed and are now causing things to be re-written. Personal stories are being moved, and altered to fit events of the past, even though those evens take place after the personal story.
Example of this is the scarlet story lines all my characters were referred to as Commander, as in the Pact commander, despite them not completing the PS. Now that I’m going back through and finishing it on characters, the story ignores the events of Scarlett because it hasn’t happened yet, but the landscape is marred and full of the wreckage that ensued from those events.
Another problem with the “Living world” is the changing the world in big ways. Say I describe events to friend, that friend finds them interesting, and buys a copy of the game, but after the world has changed. The things that interested them are gone forever. And now the friend is bitter because of a bait and switch.
Yes you want to move forward with the story. But at the same time you want to leave the existing, existing or at least recoverable. So new people can experience the world.
This is why other games have released expansions, so the story can move forward, yet the new people can start with the know. Move the story into new areas, there is a lot of the world unknow even from GW1. Not to mention Elona, and Cantha that are known to those that palyed GW1.
In my opinion, the writing content over existing wastes the work that was done before.
The first Mad King event was done right, you affected LA, but it was recoverable, and the event is repeatable yearly. Scarlett should have been an event chain that moved into new areas Just like DRY TOP, so destruction was not permanent, in the end she gets away and every year she comes back for some payback.
You are both expanding the world, and moving the story forward, without having to rewrite events. Plus when you expand you can have large events happening simultaneously in different areas of the world.
Yes expanding the world does present a different problem of loss of population in zones. but that can be handled by smaller events that do not radically change the world. Just Hey for the next two weeks the centaurs are up rising. or The Fire charr have summoned some supper elemental and it’s raging across ascalon. Complete the events and follow up with an event that the players help rebuild. world goes back to normal. so New players can enjoy the story and new future destruction.
Still no fix, not sure when Tuesday patch went into effect.

Yep the patch from earlier today did not fix this. Changed lvl areas and poof minions despawned. wouldn’t be so bad if the timers for the resummon didn’t have a full countdown every time .
I can confirm the minion despawn. It happens in more areas then level cap changes.
Ive had it happen in 2 different locations in the cave entrance near agent KAukiri in lornar pass. Entering the cave they despawn at one point, Exiting the cave is a different point. Elsewhere in Lornar pass I had another despawn.

OK here is my take.
I am one of the people that agree these boss fights are getting ridiculous and NOT FUN.
Now to those that completed it on the first try… YAY! go you. congrats. GG good job.
For those that, read this and are thinking I need to L2P. Go pet a kitten. I’ve been here since beta, I know how to play, I know how to dodge, and I can solo a fair amount of the champs with most of my chars. Granted it’s a lot of kiting, and running if I pick up an add. but I can do it.
Now some people would probably say well I’m not speced right, or not geared right. This is a personal story not a dungeon, not PvP, and NOT FotM. However I’ve speced, or armored as long as I have speced and wearing LVL gear should not matter for a personal story. Plain and simple. No more discussion.
Now if we are talking about the challenge nodes, sure gear and spec can be taken into account, after all it is CHALLENGE MODE, you’ve completed it and should have learned how.
But this thread IS NOT talking about challenge mode, it’s talking about Story mode.
Now I’m not saying these should not be difficult, but anything that causes someone to die more then 5 times in a personal story is a bit off for difficulty. I died 27 times yep I finished it naked. I didn’t rage quit, after the 3 death, because I dodge into what turned into the dragons AOE while I was in mid-air on my second dodge. I didn’t rage quit because the RNG hit me with 10 circles after being rooted by the leacher. Nor did I rage quit after being nocked off the platform to my death.
From what I saw this was intended to be a group fight, which would be fine if I was in a group. I wasn’t. I rarely group because, I have sporadic play schedule, play for limited times, and can be called away at anytime.
Personal Story events should always be designed for the solo player, yes even us “Bad” players, and scaled up for a group.
Heck I would even support, ANET adopting something that several of the Korean MMOs have which is a difficulty setting so those players that want it, can ramp up the instanced things like dungeons, and the like.
This way all these people that claim these instance events are way to easy, can have their INSANE mode, or whatever to make them happy, while leaving the general content alone for the casual, slow or “Bad” players.
And please for the Love of kittens everywhere, forget the idea that the wash rinse repeat thing is fun. It isn’t. Repeating get boss down %health, now get beat on by minions and dodge boss attacks, while waiting for boss to reset to the point where you can wail on it, it losing it’s appeal. 1 reset ok, 2 maybe, 6 that the bosses in this phase were is just a time sink, and not good game design.

props to the baseless ranger complaining in this thread, that was just my laugh of the day.. and the person who apparently has no understanding of what retaliation is but i’m assuming wanted to just flaunt the term active armor around..
OK so here someone else noticed that the hound Do not list they retal, and they do not show a buff for it either. ( unless it was patched in the patch today)
as for the ranger comment, actually I’m playing a engineer currently. And you are correct I did not know what retal was. Because even though I have played since beta, I have never used it or even played one of the 2 primary classes (guardian/ mesmer ) that have it available. And I’m pretty sure that I’ve only encountered it in the “wild” previously in the most recent Halloween event. as I don’t PvP or WvW ( I suck at them and don’t do them)
I will admit the biggest problem I’ve had is the Salma instance, so their might have been some bugs at play, but yes I have encountered in there hounds that have retal without howling, unless they did it off screen, and then they were holding on to it for over 15 seconds, and retaliated against condition damage. I’ve been retal after I stopped “flame throwering” from the burning damage so :/
And while I’m not a good player I do know how to deal with punishment debuffs, and even reflects if I can see the buff on the buff bar and can go “Oh hey that’s what is going on, I need to not do this”… I’m not a complete idiot just a partial one. :P
active armor is armor that when hit explodes out reducing the severity of damage from something that could be devastating, Such as a tank, the armor will explod on impact from the rocket, saving the tank and destroying the rocket, which would otherwise destroy the tank.

Really ANET. Like the tentacles coming out of the ground, the less then intelligent party members, the poison & slow mobs that put the debuff that does damage from moving or the one for using skills ( I can’t remember the names)
you have to make a attack reflect. Lets see as an engineer, Use a kit, grenade or flame thrower, I take damage from an attack, Use a weapon, take damage, be no where near them and they take damage from a turret, I take damage.
Please for the love of Kitten take what ever that is out of the game, Gone This feature is not in the MOB description, and was very much complained about on the skeletons in Halloween Mad Kings Maze Lair.
The only hope of winning is to do more damage to the creature before its reflected attack and it’s normal attacks kill you. If there is more then one, yeah your dead. No saving throw just dead, WP and repair.
I don’t mind some difficulty, but this feature is not fun, IF you want to put it in an expert mode dungeon, where it’s a choice to deal with fine. General play, it’s not fun, it is highly annoying. And based off the complaints from the Halloween event really not liked at all, by most, but the most masochistic.
Dear Dev’s Please please put a exit instance icon in the LS story items just like the normal story instances, that way we have an escape hatch to exit the instance back to the start if we wind up being bug stuck.
I’ve had this happen repeatedly from running around with the [leftctrl] held down to spot items, because if I mouse click a button or item it will broadcast that as a message. Then yell at me for spamming.
Dev’s please give us a different key option for link item in chat then a key used for Show names.

but this is a work around for now :P
Under the Hero screen, wardrobe tab, weapons.
I don’t get anything when right clicking, You might be on the equipment section and not wardrobe.
Or something else is going on, because I do not get any options for any item in wardrobe, weapon or other by right clicking
Ok with the new wardrobe. you can preview skins for the most of the clothing no problem. But weapons are all stowed, so smaller weapons you have no idea what they look like.
Some of the Weapon skins I had in PVP, I unlocked them and have no clue what they look like. Now I can’t tell, as weapons like pistols are stowed. so I can’t tell if the skin I have is cool, or rather plain.
Please make weapon skinning show a weapon only preview, instead of a stowed weapon.
Or allow the wardrobe window to have the preview option, like vendors or TP
Only a possible suggestion. you might need to update graphics drivers,
I personally have found certain revisions of graphics drivers to be buggy with certain games, where a newer revision of the driver is fixed.
AKA you updated it 2 months ago, and they released a newer revision 2 days later the even newer revision may fix your problem.
If that does not fix your problem, depending on the age of the video card you may need an older driver version, I know Nvidia is dropping support in new drivers for older cards. I also have an older card (5yrs on a backup machine) that plays GW2 just fine that has been recently dropped from the latest Nvidia drivers.

I don’t know what changed, or why.
But the Sharkmaw Carverns JP is currently undoable.
I’ve done this JP for the monthlies many times no problem
but now there is stalagtites or mites I can never remember which is which
all along the the slide from the top. There used to be a couple of points you could slide to, and break the slide and jump from there and land in the pool at the bottom.
I’ve tried 10 times from different points at the start, resulting in dying on one of the stalage-ites along the slide that I’ve never died on before.
OK try 11 managed to slide just right between 2 rock that killed me previously so while doable I would say it still needs looking at. Cause going from being able to do this JP no problems to 10 deaths at the entrance, somethings off

Legendary Armor????
Did I miss something I thought legendaries were only weapons, and ascended was the cap for armor????
I doubt the will remove the vendor as believe it or not there are still people working on their HoM. And then people like me that Have all the HoM skins available but I’ve only used a handful
If they do then they will probably be 0 trans cost skins.
Here’s my take on underwater combat. Please forgive as this is primarily based on PVE experience, but I can see this carrying over to PVP and WvW with the particular points I’m going to make.
Underwater combat effectiveness and fun entirely depends on the class being played underwater. Some classes the weapons work great under water, such as My warrior, or my ranger. My necro isn’t bad, for weapon skills. My engineer, worst weapon underwater ever. It is way to slow and does to little damage, especially if you are fighting a group.
Now utility skills the variation of what works underwater and what doesn’t, Most of my rangers Utilities are pretty useless underwater, granted I don’t spend a lot of time there, so someone might know of something that works. Some skills Just don’t work and there is no real reason why, such as my Necro’s flesh golem. almost every other Necro minion works in water, why not the flesh golem???? Now the Engineer, the Kits are the only way to fight underwater.
So, I can see, underwater combat needs a lot of love from devs, For time constraints of desired content planned it makes sense to remove a single map from PVP.
Does this mean it will be gone forever, not necessarily. It’s already done, It will probably be shelved until a couple devs come along with a love for Underwater, and take charge of all that is underwater. And after some time and in some future release, surprise it will be back better then ever.
Or I could be wrong and they could have the sun expand and turn the entire planet into DUNE…

I don’t think this was ever intended, it just sort of evolved as changes in the games occurred over time. Queensdale is pretty much the only zone this occurs. Yes there are champs in other zones, but most of those are due to a RNG timer on when they specifically pop after a certian time, so say 20min+ RNGmin.
Queensdale has 2 champ events that are specifically spawned after the timer reset, and 2 champs that are limited to a timer, this allows the champ chain to effectively be controlled for the Zerg train.
Unfortunately, I don’t think train issue is fixable, without breaking other stuff in the zone which is why it is left.
However, in the same vien anyone can join the train, it is not exclusionary to highlevel toons. You only need the waypoints, the only difference between a lvl1 toon and a lvl 80 toon completing a champ even is the level of the gear dropped. The lvl 1 toon will get level 1to4ish gear and the lvl 80 will get anywhere from lvl 8 to 80 gear. The experience also scales for higher levels but the percentage of the XP bar is roughly the same. Which is probably another reason they do not bother to fix it. Because basically all it does is give high level characters an inefective way to farm gold.
Please note, these are only my observations and guesses.
Ok here’s my suggestions for a solution.
1 Break up the costumes into individual part skins, So the Aetherblade XZY skin (I’m bad with names and I’m not logged into the game) While purchased as a unit, unlocks skins (Head, shoulders, chest, legs, feet, hands and possibly even back) this way everyone can get the combination of looks that they like.
I personally have found I tend towards mixing and matching skins in my PVP outfits, then going for an entire matched set.
2. Keep the town clothes screen as a costume screen. (I know this one is less likely to happen as it would eliminate the need to transmuting clothing/armor) Basically whatever is in the appropriate slot, is what is displayed. While keeping the actual armor stats, Many other MMOs offer this type of system.
That’s my suggestions, I know at this point in the game, being the changes are being released in 3 weeksish Only the first could occur in the time frame, but something for thought on further development of the wardrobe.

I’ve been playing MMOs for a very long time, I’m old K Shakes cane at kids on lawn
I’ve done, EQ, EQ2, WOW, SWG, SWOTR, RIFT, and a whole bunch of ones half the people here probably never heard of because they are bad P2W ports from Korea and China. The trinity works for those style games. Mainly because that is how the game is designed, Half the games I’ve played guess what you have a class, no builds just a class. Bam you play that role. WOW, SWOTOR, Rift yeah you can customize… But not really. You customize to A build that fits the Trinity.
I play primarily solo, Because I can grab an hour here or there. SWOTOR a couple classes are either Tanks or DPS. Well I had mine a Hybrid, Worked great, except in a group setting, I could out argo the tanks, and out damage the DPS. My guild loved me running the dungeons, Because I Protected the healer. If something started in on the healer Bam I would start agroing, and save them. Any other groups Hated me, because I would steal agro from the tank without using agro specific skills, or If I was the tank, I was too squishy for the healers to keep up. And of course alot of these non guild groups would then flame me, kick me and then block me. Because I was playing a great build for me everywhere but with them.
At least in GW2 I have never been flamed for a build not being, Just so. I’ve been flamed for not doing something right. Which hey it happens, but never for//valley// OMG your build needs to be just like this Becky…//endvalley//
This is why I play a game that does not support the Trinity….
OK in GW1 we could save our builds and swap out how were built to meet what we were going to do.
I’ve encountered this several times, where Oh hey this particular ENG build (Flamethower boost) works great everywhere but here (Fire Elemental it’s basically useless)
I would able to load and save builds like I did in GW1 instead of the OK what was this trait set to, and this one???? Where now even though I can change the traits in the line I don’t bother because of time and having to remember.
I would also Love a Weapon build out Like GW1 too. So When out of combat I can switch those characters that don’t have weapon switch, between builds, Like Staff or D/D for my ELE.
Heck even if the build options were combine… YAY for this build use these weapons.

Yes this is a TL:DR ditto post.
2 thing should be realized from all the DITTO posts you are seeing.
1) while there are those that saw the post here on the forums about the vendors going away, Many people did not. Indicating that wasn’t a good notification strategy. It’s done, over, Finne’. But these posts convey a message to ANet.
2)ANet has a growing issue with event items, that needs to be addressed. This is just the latest example. Here you have 2 items that collected accumulate, value, as they can be directly traded for goods with a small amount of currency, sure the items are available elsewhere for currency or karma. You are encouraged to collect the items.
For trade or crafting.
The problem comes in with how Anet decides to end these collected items. I still have in my bank, stuff to make Mini’s from Wintersday event back in 2012, because as far as I know no one has definitively stated whether those items are coming back.
Most of the complaints isn’t that the vendors should never go away, but like previous events where the vendor stayed for a week or two after, so someone has leaway on when they can turn in items. Say someone had an unforseen internet outage for 3 days, or just forgot and were playing Wildstar or something. Previously it was in Notes and Launcher notes Hey this event is ending, Vendors are going away this patch day.
As for the title, That stemmed from several people asking in map chat how they were supposed to complete the ascended blades, because they did not know the recipe was available from Miyani. Several even were complaining that they dumped a bunch of Blade shards, because they didn’t know they were still useful.
TL:DR version…. A whole bunch of GW2 players do not read the forums. Anet needs to address event item handling in general. I’m a casual player but you don’t care and that’s OK
