The radius is less than swd auto attack but fine. I’ll trade the 5 target limit to 3 if we can normalize the auto attack speed to 1/4 sec like every other SB1 instead of the slow 1/2 we have now. Your post went 2 days without a response. It was nice to get any comment at all.

Playing a challenging class is fine. I’ve played every class except Ele and they’re all good at what they do. The problem with playing Rev(currently) is the payoff. In this case, many of the comments you read are valid. Lots of class can do it better. The role of rev has been changed so many times, its identity is now lost.

At first, it was a heavy thief-like class with mobility and hard-hitting skills. With the constant nerfs, it has lost most of its burst and the community started to lean towards sustain. The main reason why we’re the “spam 1” in nearly all game modes is because we have to squeeze as much damage as possible out of our energy pool while still surviving. Looking at dmg per energy or survival/energy is extremely limiting because you’re poor in both but you have to constantly juggle between the 2 scenarios.

Sure this is challenging(and fun) but there comes a point where this challenge will lead to masochism. We had high hopes for Renegade and it simply failed to deliver in it’s current state. The issues of survivability and damage has not been addressed in the weaponset nor the Kalla legend.

Most people that are not complaining are the PVEr. You’ll notice they’re more interesting in roleplaying with “pony storms” and random stuff like legend chatter which gets lots of attention on reddit, but largely ignored here. While Kalla may be viable in open world, it’s largely irrelevant to the community we have here.

condition dmg reduction

in Revenant

Posted by: Set.7461

Set.7461

Temporary condition damage reduction doesn’t work in PvP… Especially the new Kalla heal aura that requires you to stand in one spot.

This is because you’ll just keep getting bombed with stacks and stacks of conditions and then when it ends, you’re instantly dead. This is why cleanse is so much more of a real answer—it resets the stacks to zero rather than temporarily reducing the damage while the stacks intensity continue to grow.

The reason Mallyx’s resistance (which you could argue is sort of the same thing since it doesn’t provide cleanse) works to a point, is because you don’t have to sacrifice so much of your offensive power building into it like you do with traited RoTGD. So you can actually kill the person during that window of damage reduction. Also, you can chain the resistance for much longer if you’re not spamming all your energy on BE or UYA if you have to go full bunker or something.

Before the demo went live, I would have disagreed with you. Having tried maxing out -condi with melandru, RoTGD, Breakrazor’s Bastion, and Vengeful hammer, I have to change my mind. It’s useless. Using Breakrazor’s Bastion is basically inviting a Scourge to free cast Shades and marks on/around the circle. Meanwhile the pulse healing is slightly better than regeneration. You’re put in an awkward situation where if you move out, you lose the reduction(which is barely noticeable even when stacked), or you stand there and eat everything. Not to mention the summon can be CC’d/feared and stops working altogether.

I’m not arguing it’s better than Herald for might generation. For those like me, who are sick of playing herald for 2 years, it’s another option and it’s definitely not as bad as you make it out to be. That isn’t to say I’m happy with it. No, of course not. I would love to see higher boon duration but I don’t believe it’s adept worthy.

Lasting Legacy is good for pure condi. Kallas Fervour(and renegade) tip toes around its hybrid nature with emphasis on crit and added ferocity. If you go power, the extra 20% condi damage from Lasting Legacy is useless while the extra 150 ferocity is masters quality as seen on Assassin’s Presence. In contrast, the free might you get from Vindication is also inline with the masters trait in Invocation(Incensed Response). I agree with you, the duration needs to be buffed which is simply a technical change rather than mechanical change.

Ignoring the mechanical flaws of these summons, Kalla stance can be improve across the board for both power and condi with some minor changes. Simply adding chill to icerazor would allow synergy with Abyssal Chill and properly scaling the spirits with power would buff icerazor and darkrazor for power.

You say Citadel Bombardment is bad. But that’s not saying much considering they’re all mediocre at best.

It’s unlikely that the devs would redo Renegade but what they can do is minor tweaks(QOL changes/numbers) and reduce energy across the board, which we’re in agreement with.

I don’t think so. The radius of all the spirits is already fairly small. It takes a single dodge and you’ll be out of it. Maybe you’ll eat a few hit with the chill but getting hit will all 20 hit? That would require a few hard CCs or maybe someone who’s brain dead that’s actually walking from one side of the radius to the other. And at best, you’ll likely aim to have it land dead center to get the most value from it. Looking at how renegade is as a whole, I’d be happy if icerazors ire applied chill. At least it would be worth the energy. AFAIK, its damage does not scale with your power so it’s basically useless for both power and condi.

Renegade beta - pvp

Set.7461

So this topic will be based on my thoughts about renegade in pvp. I hope anet checks this out because maybe they will take some ideas out of this thread.
Shortbow:
SB 1: lacks damage/condi duration/attack speed
SB 2: lacks damage/condi duration
SB 3: too slow animation and the ranged mechanic ( you hit harder if your target is far from you) doesnt work in pvp at all
SB 4: too slow animation, you cant place it behind you and the field it provides doesnt have a decent duration
SB 5: It would make more sense to be a knock back rather than a knock down and either the energy cost would be reduced to 15 or the cast time would be reduced

I played around with SB more and I have to change my mind on SB 5. If they “properly fix” SB 3 to align with the instant cast trick, then SB has a good setup combo. SB 5 will KD your enemy in place giving you an easy time to land SB 3. If they keep it the way it is, SB 5 will need a KB like you suggested which will kind of make SB 3 easier to land but not really better than the KD. Of course this will be better if they fixed the ghost missile bug of SB 3. Also SB 5 needs to be a ground target. Seems like Rev is getting the kittenting “facing skillshot” like we got with staff 5. Let us aim it and fire.

I watched the whole thing. Pretty good assessment but I disagree on one major point. Vindication(GM trait) can and does compete very strongly against Lasting Legacy. You tested it and got 10-12 stacks of might but you are forgetting something very important. It does not have an ICD. It procs might off of when you gain Kallas Fervour. Kallas Fervour also does not have an ICD. Shortbow can pierce and AOE. If you used it on the cluster of Heavy Golems, you can get 20-25 stacks of might even if it lasts a short duration. That’s an extra 600-750 power and condition damage.

The only way I see Kallas fervour being better if you are facing a single target and if you want to share 10 stacks of might via F2. Maybe a boss scenario. Vindication is excellent for large groups where you can pierce with heartpiercer. The extra missles also synergize well for the larger groups you’re facing. A little bit of boon duration also goes a long way. Testing it with strength runes, the new “strength” sigil(forgot it’s name) and pop F2 once in a while, you can self sustain full might on a single target.

Vindication also benefits both power and condi builds, The 300 ferocity from Lasting Legacy only add ~20% extra ferocity which isn’t that impactful for a power build whereas 20-25 might is a huge increase. I don’t know if the might is stronger than the 20% condi damage but Lasting Legacy will definitely be better in a min/max group(PvE) that has other sources of might.

There’s also the obvious pros and cons with pvp/wvw as the might can be stripped/corrupted making Lasting Legacy better because it’s an effect. It’s a risk but I find Vindication good for the bursty aspect as it’s free might in addition to the 5 stacks of Kallas Fervour.

Professor spout, changes to core functions can and have occurred. Take for example naturalistic resonance being nerfed from 50 % boon duration to 33% and alacrity from 66% to 33%. Those example sets precedent and it’s not unlikely they will adjust how it works with any further change.

Herald’s f2 was only used as upkeep in pve afaik. In pvp/wvw, it was double tapped for boon and dmg bonus. In essence it was almost free boon and it barely affects your energy bar. Using kallas F abilities punishes you heavily. Honestly I’d like a huge decrease in energy. Ideally, all of them reduce by half.

Citadel Order Suggestions

Set.7461

No way. Revenant already has cooldowns and energy to manage. You want to give renegade another resource pool? Sure kallas fervour is easy to build up but that can change at any balance patch and we’ll just be back at square 1 crying about cooldowns, energy, and now kallas fervour. Not to mention the out of combat openings you destroy. Your group are buffing up, how about a little alacrity before the zergs collide? Wait, I have to attack some random wolf mob to build up fervour. Want to open with citadel bombardment? Tough luck.

Having to hunt target for random critters to phase traversal is annoying. You can never find them when you need them but they’ll be sure to be there when you hit sword 2. Now we have to randomly attack mobs before a big push? This solution sounds good at first but it’s just creating another problem. Lower the energy costs… across the board.

You know all the negative criticisms of Ventari tablet? Well, what if we make it stationary, less range, and call the things “spirits”! Also lets give them HP and allow them to be cc/killed! – ANET devs

Every kitten skill from the heal to the elite has a cast time. I don’t get why the elite requires you to be in the area. Why not make it a moving field like F3, Berserker torch 5, engi healing turret toolbelt, etc? There is 0 kiting potential in this legend/kit. SB 5 could have easily become a knock back to give us some breathing room. Okay, I can get that a knock down is needed for balance but there is nothing in shortbow/kalla that allows you to move. You can’t even SB4 behind yourself. No swiftness/superspeed. No leaps, evades, knockbacks. And worst of all, the utilities REQUIRE you to stay in an area.

I don’t think I want Ventari 2.0 with moving spirits.

Glad I didn’t pre-order the xpac. This elite spec is terrible. Can you believe all the casting on Kalla? Not to mention if you get interupted during the heal, you lose it AND it goes on full cooldown. If feels like a waste of energy even to use these things, save for Darkrazor’s Daring. Icerazor’s Ires suffers from the same targeting we all hate about sword 2, flying in all directions, not picking a target and sticking with it. Renegade needs an overhaul.

Leveling a revenant

in Revenant

Posted by: Set.7461

Set.7461

That may be true, but they’re going to have a rough time in PvP.

Renegade takes all the weaknesses rev has and multiplies them. If you thought dealing with condi bombs was rough before, enter Kalla, a stance with no cleanse or invulnerabilities and equip your short bow, a weapon with zero blocks or i-frames. Now compound the problem by forcing you to choose between having a heal or having a stun break—since they’re the same ability, you’re going to either have to either burn it early or eat some hard cc.

Most likely, you’re going to have to dedicate your entire second stance and energy just to defense and escapes… Either it be Mallyx resistance spam on yourself while running away or Shiro’ing yourself the f out of there before you get bombed in the first place.

I think people sick of being a boonbot are probably better off just using PoF as an opportunity to roll a new class.

Although I’m sure renegade will be fine’ish for PvE… I’m not sure if its dps potential seems good enough to eek its way into the raid meta with how much pure pewpew some of the other dps classes are getting, and I don’t think it’s utility really brings anything desirable to that scene either as a dps/support role, but maybe… At least it’ll melt faces in fractals probably.

Who’s to say you have to slot Kalla if you spec into Renegade? With your above scenario, you can easily slot both Shiro and Mallyx while still having the F abilities of renegade. Both shiro and Mallyx enjoy a no cooldown stunbreak only requiring energy.

You can still enjoy the traits and ability to use shortbow without slotting into kalla just like you can slot into Herald without slotting in glint. Although it doesn’t seem like much, Renegade has a KD on stunbreak, condi-reduction, and Retribution-like retaliation.

As far as Kalla’s utilities, yea they won’t do much for us in pvp but the elite looks interesting. I see it as an on-demand enchanted daggers that you use sparingly. Things will be interesting this upcoming demo weekend but I’ll reserve much of my initial thoughts until I try it out.

Power rev and condi removal

Set.7461

I haven’t but I will say with my past experience with a full nomad’s zerg healer, I would doubt it will work. Even with the new changes to energy expulsion clearing condis, I still think you’ll just die a bit slower.

There’s already lots of condis flying around. While roaming, you’ll fight lots of condi mesmers and now there’s a new s/d condi thief spec that is able to load more effectively than the spammy deathblossom variant. If you take Ventari, you have to give up either shiro or jalis. As much as I love shiro, I can’t make my build work without jalis. Cleaving down clones is important for your sustain and the longer the fight takes, the more it favors the mesmer. But then again, if fights go in your favor, you can’t finish it because you don’t have shiro to catch them.

It definitely won’t hurt to try ventari because the xpac is coming soon and lots of people in my matchup are trying off-meta builds.

Power rev and condi removal

Set.7461

It might not be an option you want to take, but there is an option to run Lemongrass Poultry Soup and Runes of Hoelbrak which will cut 40% off all incoming condi durations. Yes you give up offensive options but it is a hard counter to condi builds and Rev has good enough offense to cover. With the new Renegade Elite there is also a trait for -33% incoming condi damage.

Wow, my long post gone… haha I won’t retype it all, but generally.

Baseline: Leamongrass + Hoalbrak = 40% duration reduction
Jalis: 20% (hammers) + 50% (elite) = 60% condition damage reduction
Renegade: 33% (build-up) + 33% (heal) = 55% condition damage reduction

These numbers assume multiplicative effects.

Even without Jalis elite (since it has such a high energy cost), this is a lot of reduced damage from conditions. You can make those crazy condi bombs into tiny tickles… haha

Looking forward to testing this.

I’ve tested a core version of this with melandru runes and it is very strong. The instant proc of RoTGD at 50% is much better than the randomness we had before. When renegade comes out, my wallet is going to be hurting, but I’ll try a version with antitoxin runes.

A good opener for anyone who want to run it in the meantime is to stay in jalis > RoTGD > Instantly swap to shiro during the cast animation(You will still get the effect) jump in with Phase Traversal(or swd 4 for cheaper port) > Swd 2 depending on what you need. You just save Swd 3 until the buff runs out to get the best effect on it. Whatever damage you take when you jump in is reduced and you should top off your health with a swd 3/legend swap> vengeful hammers.

Yes, I would like it 8 seconds in pvp/wvw but to say it’s bad? It the only traitline in Ret that keeps you alive. The others let you die a bit slower. Even with the improved steadfast rejuvenation, it’s still not better that versed in stone. Considering it’s a minor trait, competing with close quarters, I’d say it’s good.

Given the track record of ANET unlinking traits from pve, we could likely see it work the full 8 seconds in all game modes.

You bring up a 1v1 scenario when you previously used a zerg example which is favoring your example. At the end of the scenarios, the opponent still double-dipped by stripping your passive stun-break and stability.

I’m fine with your final solution and allowing the stunbreak to go off before the stability as long I still have stability afterwards. Whether or not it’s an impact on the server is ANET’s job. If they want to make it easier, they can tie it into the trait. Something like:

Reactive lenses: Activates utility goggles when blinded or disabled. Gain stability if you have it.

How to play Power Rev and not insta die?

in Revenant

Posted by: Set.7461

Set.7461

Zerker gear is fine in open world. I would switch out the swd off-hand to axe. For me, there are 2 ways to play open world, kill things fast or kill things lazy.

To kill things fast, make sure you are traited Devastation, Invocation, Glint(assuming you have Glint unlocked). Open in glint, releasing your Facets. Make sure you have at least 55 energy(which you should), then Precision Strikes into Legend swap. You must have Equilibrium traited and sigil of hydromancy. Let energy build in Shiro, You can even use Enchanting Daggers for extra DPS. When you’re about 70-80 energy, use impossible odds and Precision Strikes until you about/just over 50 energy. Your legend cooldown should be coming up and legend swap. Rinse and repeat.

To kill things lazy, Devastation, Invocation, Retribution. Seriously, all you need to do is activate Vengeful Hammers and cleave everything down. Swap legend when you hit 0 energy. Take Rapid Flow instead of Equilibrium, and take Shrouding Mists if you feel you need more tankiness.

haven’t seen a topic on this so I gotta say, this has been a great change with the update. The previous mandatory minor trait in retribution was Close Quarters and while 10% damage reduction from 360+ range is nice, I find Dome of the Mists superior in every way.

You get on demand projectile block that lasts for 8 seconds plus area pulsing weakness. This has been great when dealing with thieves/revs and other power classes. The QoL fall damage reduction is a nice touch now that gliding has been introduced. Pair it with a fast heal like Enchanting Daggers and you can sustain pretty well when you get jumped on.

Power rev and condi removal

Set.7461

The condi cleanse on sigil of cleansing is not random. Say you have it on staff(you should). It will proc when you swap into staff or if you’re already in staff, proc when you swap legend. Getting off that staff 4 can be made easier/faster with sigil of agility if you want to give up a sigil slot.

You will still have trouble with condis. Roaming as a power rev, the best you can hope for is a race to the bottom as the longer a fight takes against a condi class like say, mesmer, the more likely you are to lose. Traiting Malicious Reprisal or using Phase traversal during the block chain is a good way to tip the fight in your favor. Overall, I’d just avoid them if I can.

Heal
Breakrazor’s Bastion
The biggest issue I have here is the small heal amount. 3100 isn’t much. And the I wont be able to sit and wait for 10 second to soak up the heal ticks in most situations.
Bumping the initial self heal to 4100 at least, would help tremendously. And it would still leave room for the health tick to be useful.
The 33% reduction to condition damage isn’t very useful, and it forces you to stay in the circle for it’s benefit. Most condi players will just light up the area with fields. Also, if damage reduction was really that useful, Jalis would be used more, and he’s not, really. Because you still take plenty of damage through the mitigation.
Adding some condi removal here would be nice. It could remove a condition on pulse.
Lastly, what’s up with the heal costing 10 energy, when all the other heals cost only 5?

There may be a reason why the base heal is so low. Take a look at some of the AOE skills. The thing is, we don’t have much information but I can imagine using active healing via lifesteal. This will require you to build up your energy by ranging first. When you need a heal, I imagine you can pop your elite upkeep, and hit Sevenshot. That’s at least 7 hits and more if it pierces(unconfirmed). The shortbow skills look relatively good on energy(again we don’t know yet) and they hit multiple shots. That big F3 AOE? If it works with the elite, that’s a huge amount of life siphon. May not be energy efficient but I’m just brainstorming with what little info we had. Too bad the elite only “empowers players”. That would be sweet with Icerazor’s Ire(20 hits).

What Is The Point of Revenant?

in Revenant

Posted by: Set.7461

Set.7461

I would also like to add, Jalis/Herald – Why not play Engi?

Lot of changes impacted Rev moreso than other classes. The support/stomping power of rev was killed with the quickness change(quickness no longer affects stomping/rezzing). The increased energy and added cooldown on phase traversal secured the role of roaming and +1 to thieves and to a lesser extent, mesmer. The huge nerf on SOTM dropped it’s 1v1 power.

The more recent changes to Jalis suggest they want us to hold points and bunker. Increased base heal of Vengeful hammers, added initial stability to Inspiring Reinforcements, and reducing the energy cost of Forced Engagement is nice. Unfortunately, Jalis has an expensive stunbreak and if they wanted us to use active skills to avoid CC, Inspiring reinforcements is not enough. They should revert the changes to Unwavering Avoidance to give us back stability on dodge instead of evade. Although that will help, I still don’t see a Jalis rev taking the job as pointholder simply because they tied the tankiness of Jalis to an expensive(and short duration elite) and a buggy upkeep skill. Vengeful Hammers can sustain extremely well, especially when traited with Devastation’s siphon life but the problem is not the traits itself. The problem is the buggy nature of Vengeful Hammers. Trying to LOS and hug walls means the hammers disappear, sometimes still draining energy. You have to to deal with range pressure with the Hammer weaponset but it’s slow. Hammer 5 is buggy. If you dodge cancel it, it will not finish the skill, spend all the energy, AND go on full cooldown. This means you’re stuck with a staff, swd/x weapon set.

IMO they should buff rev to what it was good at. Teamfighting and +1. The quickness stomp change was good IMO but the increase energy cost/added CD to Phase Traversal was too much. The 50% SOTM nerf was too much. It seems like the nerfs come in harder than the buffs and the rate at which they come in is way too slow. All these slow buffs are meaningless because the xpac is coming up.

edit: also the change to hydromancy sigil affected us moreso than other classes. We used it in conjunction with our equilibrium burst so it further weaken our stopping power.

Feedback: Pip Acquisition [merged]

in WvW

Posted by: Set.7461

Set.7461

It actually goes against Anet marketing of Guild Wars, that was to rewards players based on their skill rather than their playtime. SPVP, PVE, even Raids don’t do that.
So if you’re asking why… well I’d suggest you put yourself in other people shoes.
It’s less a problem of PvE players being whiny than it is with pvp players being kitteny.

I am sorry but Zalavaaris is right. Fractals won’t take you nearly as long to get to T4. If you’re good, you progress fast. You will get to T4 before a WvW “new” player gets their diamond chest.
Fractals players don’t get additional rewards because they keep fractals alive, they get as much as anyone else at T4. T4 is not even a week of hard WvW work. That’s a fact.
Raids are based on skills. Yes it does take time to learn, but the rewards are not gated behind something that will take you ages to get no matter your skill, it’s the same for everyone.

WvW is another concept entirely. You can be level 10k and have “cheesed” your way there, it will still require the same amount of skill… to get a lot more pips.
That is what is broken here. You aren’t rewarded because you’re better, you’re rewarded because you played more.
Now getting rewarded for taking forts, wiping big groups of enemies, being a good dps/support etc, that would have to do with skills and could potentially be a reason for additional pips. But this? Seriously? No. The amount of time required in this mode every week is a lot for veterans, and is absolutely insane for newcomers, much, much mode than what is required from any other mode.

The least they could do, since they throw pve stuff at WvW players constantly (tome of knowledge) is to make them somehow usable for WvW as well. If not getting one level for one tome, they could make a recipe for tomes + proof of heroes or whatever.

Another suggestion would be to give higher ranks discount on stuff rather than additional pips. What would it change? Well everything. You could choose to either pay more in tickets/proofs/badges now to get your stuff or play more and earn discounts.

Sorry for what? We can discuss fractals, sure. I stepped into fractals when I had to make C&C. What I noticed is it’s instanced. Some fractals is as simple as killing 1 boss. Sure, with a game mode so compartmentalized, it’s easy to measure “skill”.

The problem with WvW is there’s so much more to it than taking towers. There’s roaming, escaping outnumbered, blobbing, taking camps, bleeding supply, havoc groups, commanding, etc. How would you measure this? How would you even go about ranking these aspects in the game mode? Unless you’re some awesome programmer with savant-like algorithm knowledge, you break it down to what we have right now which is WXP. Like it or not, the game mode doesn’t have a metric to determine individual skill. In place, they use the war score so you have to contribute collectively.

This is something you need to get over. It’s not Player vs Player(sPvP), it’s World vs World so of course individual skill means less. That’s where ranking comes in. In no way is it an indication of skill, but it is a fair system which awards experience. And that experienced is measured in ranking. Want higher ranking? Get more WXP. Are you better at that random Gold Recruit you just jumped and killed? Sure you may think so, but you might be a thief and he might be running zerg gear. You talk about cheesing rank as if that’s exclusive to WvW. All the game modes can be cheesed. I addressed this earlier but the higher tier vets are not taking tickets away from me. Sure, they’ll get their’s faster but I’ll get them too.

Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor

That’s a fine argument and one I totally agree with but using thar argument, you could justify a 3k, or 4k rank. Hell, even up to 8-10k (max rank) would be perfectly fine because the “real” wvw veterans have high rank due to their activity in the game mode.

I’m fine with it being increased. I see too many so-called “legendaries” in the game. Seeing someone with the armor(specifically the chestpiece) will show how much time he put into the game mode.

Agreed and I would like to add that alacrity doesn’t affect legend cooldown. Even if we only have 1 source(specced into salvation) it would be nice in a group for more equilibrium procs.

What a bunch of sooks… unbelievable.

Just add these items to PvE to stop the whining.

Pve’rs are the biggest whiners in the game.

“I don’t want to run around opening chest in SW!”
“I hate how I HAVE to multi-map in AB because the loot is TOO good”
“Why is that necro getting more karma compared to me by using his class mechanic?”
“Engis are doing the same? NERF!!!”
“I want the Gift of Battle but I hate WvW!! Plz ANET”

Now it’s, “Why are people that kept WvW on life support for 4 years getting tickets faster than me?”

Geez pve’rs… this is embarassing…

Because repeating the same cycle of capturing towers over and over and over to unlock one item isn’t everyone’s idea of fun…

Then go back to killing pocket raptors in pve-land. Why should the game reward you with loot in a game mode you don’t enjoy? Entitlement.

This post is a gold mine for schadenfreude. IMO well deserving. For years pvers put down wvw saying it’s not a real game mode. You guys expect the wvw community to have sympathy for you?

Here’s a little tip that also works well IRL: Be kind to people on your way up. You might see them on your way down.

Did he just argue the stomping portion of function gyro was made for those dumb sylvari NPCs? Like… really?

I play and enjoy all 3 game modes. Instead of talking about revenant, this turned into PVE prosetylizing.

Back on topic. Revenant is in a better spot, that’s for sure but pretending they were good and everyone just needs to L2P reeks of ego. Are you Rarnark? Ohh wait, you’re just a PVE queen with your mesmer runes scrapper. That might have been a good build when gyros had daze on destruction but that was removed many patches ago.

I’ve tried using intelligence sigil to proc IP with a modified opener. Toss Elixir S, Blowtorch, swap to FT and air blast. The problem I ran across is I might get sharpshooter to proc causing bleed but this isn’t enough to cover the burn. By the time you swap back to P/P, your target is dodging/disengaging so you have a hard time covering the burn with Static Shot/poison volley. Most classes can clear 2-3 condis on heal and the way condi cleanse work, it usually prioritize the last condis applied so my goal was to get as much burn in first, and then cover it with blind/confusion/poison.

I’ve tried tried “saving” the intelligence sigil proc by killing a guard or mob, and just before I go out of combat, swap to FT but that became more of a chore.

If I am zerging, I’ll swap Sneak Gyro with mortar kit to cover the max range and FT with grenade kit to cover the midline. I agree with guildabd, Shrapnel is strong so I take Explosives. It’s nice to see a good discussion here. I had more hours on thief than any other class and their sub forum isn’t as constructive as the engi forum here.

There’s no point in going full TB gear. You can get just over 100% burn/bleed duration with just TB(as well as Viper) trinkets. The only reason you would go full TB is if you camp EG and FT. I can understand if you camp EG but it’s more of a slower/methodical playstyle. Maxing out burn for FT doesn’t have the same value as the burn on auto attack occurs at the final tick. The channel time as well as the limited range means enemy players usually dodges it or is out of range altogether.

Like ApaWanka, I find playing P/P like a thief very effective. Usually, I pick a target. Pop Incendiary Ammo. If they’re close, I’ll toss Elixir S, open with blowtorch, then quickly cover the burn with Static Shock. At this point, they’ll dodge and I cast Poison Dart Volley. Some will miss, maybe all if they have enough endurance to double dodge the darts. Doesn’t matter as my goal is to cover the main condi(burn). The single blowtorch burst should hit over 25k with Incendiary Ammo, and if your lucky to crit, another 5k burn with Incendiary Powder proc. If they’re too far, I’ll use Sneak Gyro aggressively and stack stealth. If I’m going yolo, I’ll pick off someone deep in the group and rocket boots when I’m in trouble.

Of course lots of WvW run durability rune/boon food so if that procs, your burst will hit less due to resistance but this tactic has been very successful, it almost feels like cheating.

Edit: this is my sneaky blowtorch burst build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQJAqanUUB9dh1XB2aBEqiF2iSsjmingu5H+kH8DLxAA-TFyCQBH7BAIk9HAwJAYjKRqoyLPp+Dg0DgSlgAA-w

Note, I left food out because I don’t like +dur foods as I’m cheap and lazy to babysit it. I usually use the lesser provisional +cond dmg food and the first crystal that stacks nicely with toughness. Getting 25 corruption and the food bonuses will get you over 2k condi damage which is pretty insane.

I’m assuming you’re running Elixir Gun and Sneek Gyro. Detection Pulse is a large aoe reveal which is great to use near a black powder/shadow refuge. If you are going toe to toe, throw Super Elixir on you feet and auto attack with tranquilizer. Weakness is extremely strong against thieves. It reduces their endurance regen(dodges) and causes half their attacks to glance(deal half dmg and can’t crit).

If you’re running Flame Thrower, you can also use air blast to knock them out of refuge.

edit: I can’t read. Switch mortar kit to sneek gyro. Combo your healing turret with the extra blast from rocket boots. Don’t be afraid to use gear shield preemptively when the thief is in stealth. Just make sure it’s the second burst and basilisk venom is on cooldown.

Applying stability to yourself with toolbelt skill “Toss Elixir B”, then disabling yourself with Overcharged Shot, it will consume a stack of stability while triggering the trait. Seems like a bug. I submitted a ticket.

The masters tier on Corruption has Bolstered Anguish which increases damage by 3% per condition on you. Why? What I mean is, why in the only condi trait line, they give us damage and not condition damage?

I really like Justine’s idea. Currently, Maniacal Persistence is eclipsed by Roiling Mists.

Revenant's energy management problems

Set.7461

Can you expand on “Universal energy threshold”? I’m not sure if you mean having 30-35 as a cap on energy or not.

I think a simple and elegant solution is a refund. For example, Rite of the Great Dwarf is expensive(50 energy). The stunbreak occurs at the start of the cast. If it gets interrupted, have it refund you 25 energy. It seems like a rip-off when you spend 50 energy to break a stun, only to be instantly CC’d afterwards. What then? You hope you’re specced Invocation and have you legend swap off cooldown. I’m not suggesting this refund is a fixed 25 energy, half would be fine.

The idea of getting what you paid for in terms of energy is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. What if our energy isn’t “spent” but “drained” Say instead of spending 50 energy instantly for RotGD, it would spend it over the 1.25 sec cast time? At any time it gets interrupted, whatever is left over would still be in your pool. This would not only solve the stun-break problem, but other problems such as interruptions of Mallyx leap, Pain Absoption, etc.
