Accessories are where its at, in my opinion.
Also having water/monk runes to further your own agenda.
Its possible to maximise healing, but you’ll be looking pretty silly (rolling all the kitten time) doing it.
Jennah is written in the books as her own character feeling and experiencing things (like the Kralkatorrik’s mind incident) by herself and all that. An illusion wouldn’t be able to sense and express those things.
Somewhat debunked in the book; Sea of Sorrows.
Macha, an Asuran Mesmer, was capable of forming an illusion that showed sorrow shortly before it faded away.
I would argue that it would really depend on how skilled the Mesmer is.
Agreed. Considering Creators don’t sound like something you’d see being Field Agents at the same time, its possible that being promoted to Lightbringer had something to do with it.
Magically advanced, maybe. But considering the fact you can’t properly mass-produce simple machines on a large scale, I’m inclined to disagree.
And about the Charr’s lack of inclination for magic; Do note that the Iron Legion isn’t as biased against Magic as say, Blood Legion, if it allows certain innovations that can bypass the limits of just material engineering. Play through the Iron Legion storyline, and your character eventually builds a Ghostfire Bore rifle that can dissipate ghosts in a significantly more efficient way than conventional weapons. That, and don’t forget the ghost containment devices as well as the Ghostfire munitions (which turn out to be generally powerfull overall, not just ghosts) as well.
Wasn’t there a heart in Ashford Plains that was all about gathering Devourer Eggs?
If I remember right, the older Charr teaching the cubs was Iron Legion, so I don’t think it would really matter much. If you really are into lore, it would be better if you thought about other qualities you want your Charr to have, like how Blood Legion are more straightforward, Iron Legion are innovative and Ash Legion prefer discretion.
For a one-handed DPS Meditation build,
Sword/Torch
Scepter/Focus
For the usual Two-handed stuff,
Greatsword
Hammer
For ultimately stacking Might, enough to make a Warrior faint with fire fields and combo finishers,
Hammer
Staff.
If you want to try a DPS build, I do suggest looking into Valkyrie sets to mix in with Berserkers to increase your HP in addition to maintaining a high amount of Crit Damage for good survivability. Don’t forget that other than the usual Aegis and Dodges, it also depends on your weapon type. For example, with the Focus, you’ll have an additional 3 blocks. Also a good idea to use up Defiance stacks on the enemy with Scepter’s #3.
I personally run a Monk’s Focus, DPS build with meditations with a Sword/Torch and Scepter/Focus combination, enabling me to adapt to nearly any situation and at any range most content needs me to be in. Using a Superior Rune of Blood and certain food also allow me to maintain my HP through my high crit chance and damage as well.
Play as you like, as long as you have a synergy that works for you. High DPS Guardians usually have a signficiantly smaller window of error due to our low HP, but a skilled Guardian DPS can also significantly outlast one with the tools at his disposal.
Don’t forget that you aren’t totally forgoing your support capabilities when doing so as well; You’re still capable of removing conditions and healing with the Torch and Focus, with well-aimed uses. Otherwise, its a very “Selfish” build so to speak, and even if I do like the spec, admit thakittens not fully utilizing the Guardian’s full potential of party support when compared to a high boon duration build with might/protection stacks.
Even when using two-handed weapons instead, one good advantage we have over other classes is our sheer ability of placing light fields and to combo with ourselves. Telling your party members to utilize these fields can easily be a force multiplier when the going gets tough, continually removing conditions and applying the protection buff whenever you need it. If you prefer playing a shout-oriented AH/EM build instead, just do remember that you’ll really need to save those shouts for the moments that count, due to your lack of boon duration, eg. Stand your Ground for the godkitten Graveling Lurkers in AC for example.

They look creepy to me. Musclebound kids are odd but a whole race with musclebound babies just makes me think the cubs come charging out kicking and fighting when they’re born…
They’ve been known to walk days after birth, unlike human babies.
Considering how young they are when they are inducted into a Gayest, it’s almost not too far-fetched of an idea.
From Singapore here myself and I main a Guardian and can play any role with one. Just send a tell or a friend request anytime you need me.
You can, doesn’t mean the others are just as able. If I’m capable of maintaining a 25 stack of might with 60% boon duration and healing with Battle Presense and dodge rolling for 1500 a heal so the group can focus more on DPS, why not? It’s how I want to play the kitten class.
You aren’t maintaining 25 stacks of might. Not even half that.
40 to 60% Boon/Might Duration, Virtue of Courage, Empower, fire fields from Purging Flames and/or Cleansing Ground with Mighty Blow’s Blast finishers coupled with Master of Consecretions and Two-handed Mastery and with Empowering Might.
Its not that hard to maintain past 15 to 20 stacks of might on your lonesome. All of the buffs are party-wide as well.
I’ll admit I was slightly exaggerating, but it’s possible to maintain might as a Guardian.

True, but what you don’t see is the mitigation we offer. Constant protection prevents way more damage than you can ever heal. We do so gradually in a sustained manner as well.

From what I’ve observed, your Fahrar “class” will end up as your warband once the Primus deems them fit for active duty, hence why they’re a Charr’s family, so to speak.
If you can’t fight, there’s non-combat vocations, like storemen, farmers, and other logistical things that need doing.
One thing’s for sure; your average Charr is still going to be able to defend himself significantly better than an average member of the other races.
I don’t remember where but it has been stated that the elder dragons do not cooperate and minions will kill each other
This. We were told that their minions are hostile to each other, and the dragons themselves are not allies.
Crucible of Eternity does present an odd situation where there’s one room (just one in story, and just one in explorable) where minions of all four main dragons and possibly Mordremoth are together. But I consider this more of a mechanical situation, given how all dungeon foes share the same affiliation (by Anet terminology: armies), and thus would treat anything else in the dungeon as an ally (as well as all counting to the same Slayer achievement). At least that’s the case with most dungeons.
They can be in seperate ‘teams’ as shown in Explorable Ascalonian Catacombs in which it was totally possible to pit Oozes against gravelings and the tactic in which you lured the occasional cave troll into fighting Kholer instead of doing it yourself.
It’s more of a mechanical issue as it would be pretty kitten if the four of them proceeded to hit each other instead of doing it yourself. Not much of a fight that way.
Knight sets refer to pieces of armor that give you the Pow/Pre/Tgh stat mix, which are not available through dungeons or karma sets, I believe, making them available only through crafting or buying and trading from someone who can. It’s a very popular stat build as it has defence, power and crit chance all in the same package.
Lets forget that a good amount of guardians do run Sword/Focus Meditation builds, and Hammer or Greatsword are great Utility weapons when used right.
WoR too slow? Who doesn’t use it without JI nowadays?
So I got interested and gave this build a shot with a set of rares and I’m happy to report that it’s working better than I expected it to, although with quite a few personal tweaks, with a full set of Knights on all my armor pieces and accessories and using a hammer as my off-hand. In PvE situations, as well as being a Charr, using Battle Roar, a blast finisher though Purging Flames and VoJ from the get go means an easy 8 to 10 stacks of might to start a fight with. With a Staff, it was just absurd how easy it was to maintain a great stack of might without losing too much combat effectiveness’ though getting tripped is an issue.
I’m thinking of branching away from your one-handed approach in favor of using a Hammer/Staff just for Empower and to use blast finishers through Purging Flames, and possibly try a tweaked 0/15/10/25/20 instead, using Purging Flames, WoR and Judges Intervention for WvW and maybe PF, Battle Roar and JI for PvE.
Can’t wait to try it out later.
Keep Signet of Judgement at 7 and use Stand Your Ground and Hold the Line with Purity Of Voice for good condition removal and consistant buffs.
Granite, Fog and Oil Slick seems to work for Vigil Heavy Armor on my Charr.
On an AH build, with just 5 points in Virtues, using all your virtues, then RF, and then popping them again is a pretty decent “oh kitten” button if anything. Timed and executed well, can make a difference in most situations.
Running a 0/5/30/30/5 trait build.
Reduce some Toughness for Power and that’s about as close as you can get to those stats.
I have never followed your previous attempts at a Paladin build, though it seems you’ve ended up in the exact same trait build I’ve been using on My Guardian. I too agree that out seems like it’s the best compromise between critical chance, damage, toughness AndHP. Don’t Think I can play with any other build on My Guardian.
And about it being a ‘Team Paradigm’ build, I’ve never heard of you guys and have never tag this guide, and I happen to have a very similar build. Why? Because it works. There will always be someone out there with the same build.
Charr Precision Racing!
Or am I the only one imagining Twisted Metal-styled vehicular combat?
Your request for reinforcements has been noted. Leigonnaire Dinky and Wither Warband will be dispatched to assess the situation and to provide direct assistance and to deliver parts from the prototype Ghostbore cannon to supress their advance. As my responsibilities in the Pact wane from Zhaitan’s defeat, I will personally rendezvous with your forces with an appropriate amount of additional reinforcements depending on Leigonnaire Dinky’s report.
-Centurion Haztion Withermane, Blood Legion.
You get fury when you’re inflicted with the Burn status.
The tooltip is misleading.
These are my current stats and I find them to be about the perfect balance for what I like to do. Soldier Runes in the armor and a mix of Pow/Vit/Tgh and Pow/Pre/Tgh armor sets and accessories.
Definitely possible to go higher in any stat.
There’s quite a sizable number of Iron Legion Guardians who disagree with you.
It’s common knowledge That Charr do have hobbies they indulge in when off duty, be it taking care of a garden or raising a pet to participating in the arena. Let’s be honest; if there is a Charr who tries to catapult cows to transport them as food, I wouldn’t doubt there’s a Charr out there who likes astronomy.
If you noticed, most of the Pact’s technology and production were Mostly Charr and Asura collaborations. If anything, most of the other races almost lament at Why Charr can retain a high quality while producing at such high quantities. Other than resources and manpower, I don’t really see what the other races can contribute with, Though Norn are great blacksmiths and crafters.
Kind of off-topic, but that Armageddon reference had me imagining some Russian PvPer Guardian killing thieves with a spanner. Anyway, the only difficulty in killing thieves is if they’re dead set on disengaging and start using stealth and doing nothing but to run.
I have to say that the #5 is actually really useless in PvE as well.
Depends on what you need from it. In Dungeons, I use it to block.monsters off objectives, llike making sure the Gravelings get stuck around the traps in AC, as an example off the top of my head.
CFQ?
Charr Fried Quaggan?
For pve especially, consider spending 15 points in zeal, that gives you an aoe blind on virtue of justice, and a refresh of that virtue every kill. I use sword/focus, so most fights, event against multiple enemies, will end without me having been hit a single time.
Correction. 5 points in Radiance for the AoE blind on Virtue of Justice and 15 for the refresh on a kill. It’s also recommended as it raises your Precision as well.
I don’t think any warrior can lay down projectile-reflecting walls, teleport into siege building plans and kill ram users through the gate.
Just to list a few things lol.
My guard is just sitting around because hes 100% useless in WvW. hes got 1 good skill wall of reflect.
Warrior in WvW is 1000000X better. 2 real ranged options = OWNING!
Warrior with a 2h hammer = CC to death.
That’s a problem with the player unable to utilize the tools given to him.
I can harass from behind walls and gates. I can cast swiftness, create walls at range, reflect projectiles, remove conditions from my entire zerg and effortlessly buff ALL of them with dstability, protection and retaliation and scare the living bits off a kiting caster or ranged class by teleporting into his face and burying it into the ground, or teleporting RIGHT inside a siege building plan and destroying it from the full effect of Whirling Wrath.
A warrior is a sharp rock that’s thrown at others. A guardian is even a bigger rock; a little harder to throw, but it’s harder to break… and it kitten teleports.
Staff paired with Hammer or GS is fine as well, with its Swiftness buff on short CD if you traited for 2 Cooldown. Place the wall right in front of a fleeing enemy and watch him fall on his kitten Use Empower to heal up as AH allows you to. kittenblock kiting hunters with Wall of reflection as you close in…
But you sacrifice burst damage and viable weapon switching when compared to the GS and Hammer combo.
You have to rely on the multiple CCs like the root on the Scepter and Hammer, Wall on Staff and Ring of Warding, also on hammer, using Judges Intervention while casting Ring of Warding will shock your opponent and leave him open to a Banish and MB combo, tying him up with embrace and wailing on him until he drops. Switching to Greatsword, using Binding Blade and Whirling Wrath, pulling the running kitten back if he runs while saying “GET OVER HERE!” like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, Using Leap of faith add a closer if he gets too far…
So many options.
Rend Ashbourne – 7/10 Sounds like a pretty short and generic name. A little lacking on the background info too.
Haztion Withermane, Guardian of the Mane Warband, formerly of the Steel Warband. “Wither” because that’s what he does in battle; outlasting stronger warriors, withering them down with his defensive and curative skills before delivering a quick decisive blow to the head. Much like Dinky, he too was quite the runt, and as a Guardian, was picked upon quite a bit, seemingly being branded as “weaker” by the other Blood Legion charr. Haztion was both his best friend and sparring partner since their fahrar days, taking care of Dinky whenever he could, making sure those who picked on him never did so again. While Dinky was defensive with a mace and a shield, Haztion was more on the offensive side, wielding hammers and greatswords. As such, Dinky looked up to Haztion as more of a blood brother, rather than a friend or as a leader.
A good soldier fit to be a Legionnaire; he had to serve under Urvan Steelbane, whom he openly defies for picking on Dinky. As such, at Dinky’s behest as to not to start any trouble, he keeps most of his anger in check, although he had no issues beating any of Urvan’s goons to near-death when they tried to detain Dinky for something trivial.
When Rytlock gave him the opportunity for the promotion, he relished it and took full use of it, doing what Urvan would’ve done in his shoes; ending his life once and for all.
As a Legionnaire, he is known for his rational behavior and for giving results, despite the small, yet specialist nature of his Warband, using each member’s skills to its maximum, and even as force multipliers whenever possible. It was because of this reputation, in addition to Rytlock’s insistence, that he was let off the hook when he assisted his sire to escape from his prison cell. To this day, he still waits for the inevitable message, sent to explain his sire’s actions once and for all.
He later joined the Order of Whispers, preferring it over the overly Militant Vigil and the ever-studious Priory, as it had a similar style to how he would fight, not head on, yet striking critical points without taking too long to think about them.
He still drinks apple cider at the end of each day, as a sign of respect and remembrance to Tybalt Leftpaw.
PS: If anything, doesn’t his name sound like a mixture of “Hairy Bastion”? If anything, he is, but totally not on purpose.
Aye. That trait build is the same one I’m using as well, except I’m going for a Power/Precision/toughness with a splash of vitality, having around 40% crit with a Knight weapon. It’s been the most flexible layout I’ve seen and used, and I’ve yet to need to reset my traits for dungeons, PvE or WvW. Changing weapons, slot skills and trait.skills to match and it’ll do for almost anything the game can throw at you.
I guess it would depend on if you wanted any specific elite skills that might have somesynergy with Guardian. For example, the Charr’s Charrzooka is an excellent WvW weapon for sieging and defending. An Asura is much harder to click and its 1 minute durable Golem summon actually hurts.
Take a look at those and see what you like.
You can do as many skills as you can as long as the field is still up. Its pretty common for me to remove conditions with whirling wrath and then using a burst finisher for retaliation right before it dies out.
But Dinky is a guardian, so… Go Guardian? ;p
Though, Guardians have multiple weapons for different purposes and ranges, they’re a “magical” class of sorts, while the warrior can use rifles and is fully physical.
I would say that they definitely have the potential to be stronger, but I would say it endsup being a question of physiology, as both of them are very different. For example, the Charr will have a significant advantage in cross country as they can go on all fours. That also means that their shoulders are naturally stronger as their front limbs can be used for locomotion as well. But I’d say it slightly limits them when it comes to motion, as you can see when you compare Charr attack animations with a Norn’s
I’d say without equipment, the Charr have the biomechanical advantage, especially with teeth and claws, but with equipment, it’s anyone’s guess.
Among my Charr toons, all of them have varying differences in upbringing and experiences, as life in a fahrar can be significantly different between Legions. My Iron Legion mechanic is a bit more of an chemist, and his personality differs greatly when in combat as he’s pumped full of adrenaline and mild stimulants that he concocted for the legions’ general use without permanent side-effects, as well as a more efficient mixture of propellant for his flamethrower. Outside combat, he is a quiet, dignified yet fiery man, not afraid to speak his mind, yet being polite unless disrespected. In combat, he lets himself loose, living in the moment, allowing his inner combat pragmatism to work its charm.
My Ash legion character is a Mesmer and as such, with his Shaman sire, had grown up under a shadow of suspicion. Even so, his skill with blades is nothing to scoff at, capable of deflecting a rifle round. He uses his mesmeric abilities to compliment his aggressive combat style using two swords, although he has no qualms fully utilizing his mesmeric abilities channeled through a greatsword if the need arises. He has very few friends and as such, they share a close, unspoken bond with each other, though only Dinky survived, being a skilled Guardian. Has no qualms proving his worth of being in the Ash Legion, be it through his illusions and guile, to his skills with a blade, proving naysayers time and again that even “cowards in robes” can go toe-to-toe with a fully outfitted blood legion soldier with minimal use of music.
My Charr Guardian shares a history with Dinky, both being the smallest in their respective Fahrars and being picked upon for being a Guardian. While Dinky is stout-hearted to the end, my guardian is capable of being far more aggressive and tenacious, being very skilled with mauls and greatswords, many are taken aback and are demoralized at the sight of an apparent runt punting Flame Legion Blademasters around the field of battle with his maul. He is also a combat pragmatist, capable of using nearly any weapon, be it magical staves and scepters to blades and maces, he is capable of being in almost any situation.
All of them are fundamentally different, but yet the same. Respect, tenacity and their unwillingness to back down, roll over and let fate tell them what to do.
I find Dinky to have the most mileage with, considering his basic toughness, he heals and even sets up wonderful combo fields, as well as deflection/block ones. The other sparring partners don’t scale up as well as they lack as much utility. But it’s just a few other reasons to pick Dinky as best mate.
If your father was a Gladium, wasn’t he mentioned to be a mesmer during his quest arc? Not like they mentioned which Legion he was from, however.
