Another issue with such a pyng is that this is the BASE pyng. When the server itself has a bit of lag or in network lag spikes, the whole thing quickly becomes unplayable.
I am in Malaysia and my pyng is a bit higher at 300-350 ms. It is sort of ok for most PVE although it messes up some parts of the game really badly. For example, my ability to successfully do even easy jumps in dry top is a direct result of my pyng – now you can, now you cant. And in WvW anything more than 30 ppl can easily produce 4-5 seconds of lag followed by a dc.
The difference I see when home in Europe is huge.
I have found that a proxy server helps, not so much in lowering the pyng, but in keeping it stable and eliminating lag spikes.

Hi,I am wondering if anyone has tried making 2 mawdreys. Can you feed both or is it still limited to 3-5 times 50 ?
Well done, for the patience and more for the presentation.
I also wonder what you do irl
Your sample is large – @ 95% confidence lvl the highest error margin is 1.88% – that is for 50% distribution, but given we are measuring a 1-2% probability it is more like 0.5%. So yes, it is not 0.0000001% and it is not 10%.
Even looking at only the sword sample the error is low – 1.35%.
2 bias I can see
First different kinds of precursors – while they should not have a different chance they may actually do so.
I assumed you stopped once you got a precursor. For obvious reasons, but the more straightforward way would be to do a set number of forges on each precursor – so we can take mean of successful tries rather than the mean of forges required. .
Also, I would had liked to see all the results – the idea of a chance to get a named exotic is tempting.
But once again, this data is just lovely. Thank you!
@ Spiky – unfortunately that is the nature of chance. It appears random in small samples and only becomes deterministic in large numbers. But this is also why this data is useful : it shows how rare it ACTUALLY is, rather than “I heard someone got one in 2 tries so I should do the same”
Happened to me a week or so ago, but I thought it was because someone switched to an alt too fast rather than use the wp. Very annoying, I agree.
You guys are rude, it’s just a game you know, people play how they want, you can’t force them to play like how YOU want, i play what i want to play for fun, but you guys seems to be upset and elitists here so i’m not going to argue any longer with you because you’re stupid. It’s like those people wanting 5k AP Warriors when i saw 12k AP Warriors in my group yesterday that couldn’t run in arah p1 and ragequitted in the end because they were too bad skipping Drakes and Oozes, yet we failed because a mesmer aggro all of the champions instead of one small group.
No, you failed because you could not deal with all the entities at the same. There are groups that do so with ease. Most likely they also run berserker/assassin, but that is another story.
Does the transmutation splitter work on skins? For example sclerite skin on an ascended sword.
Thank you in advance
Stacking is what happens when my “ally” buffs have a range instead of applying to the party.
Ppl stack in Lupi P1 even when ranging. They don’t stack for melee damage: they stack for buffs, they stack so the warriors can deal with locusts & grubs and so protect the casters, they stack so they can res fast if needed. In short, they stack so they can function as a team.
Saw a warrior drop a banner of tactics the other day in AC. At least he switched to discipline when asked, but that was solid.
I saw a warrior drop a banner of tactics in cof p1 this morning.. He did not switch to discipline when asked by another party member (although granted, the request was not exactly politely phrased).
I would love to be able to “store” and select between multiple sigils and runes on the weap and armour. Having 3 swords with exactly the same stats but 3 different sigils and so on for everything else is hell annoying.
I have seen that teleport too – one person taking the buff at end boss and then deciding to wait for everyone else, all teleported to the middle of the skip a bit later. We proceeded normally after that though without any further teleports.
No, we had not skipped lupi.
i wasnt expecting gold, but something that lasts. something u can show off.
some skin that shows u were on the winning server, 2nd ranked or 3rd ranked server or that also shows that u were part of season 1( for the servers that didnt make the top 3).
a mini pet is nothing people desire as a reward. i dont even use mini pets….
i want looking for shinies, but still this reward is pathetic…
You got a title that is exactly that – something that lasts and to show off. Plus can be used on all your chars. I don’t understand the complaint.
because I’m not a WvW player – and still I was there – in EB and the borderlands taking up space – running specifically what I needed to run in order to get my achievements – wasting supply and running karma trains and whatnot – while people who love WvW were stuck in queues. Why ?! Because Anet didn’t bother to specify which players would be interested by these rewards by making them public.
I hope this is an experience they can learn from – I certainly have – Not going to bother with WvW rewards unless they are : 1 ) announced prior to season start. 2) worth the time and effort.
And that is exactly why the WvW-ers liked the “poor” rewards: because next time people who are only there only for the achievements and just took up space will not be bothered to do them.
Much better than having amazing rewards this time and then 3 hour queues in home bl with 10 plp on commander and 50 zerging ruins. And I am not even a hardcore WvW-er.
PS: I loved the title – personally I feel that was reward enough.
Because the whole point was to make someone else say it.
It is interesting how this concept “It’s ok, you had fun along the way”, can be applied to almost anything else, and looks just as weak on anything else.
If you kick someone that is bad, then at least tell them why, so that they cant cry foul play and spread such rumours. I realise that most times when you get to the point of kicking you have little patience left to sit and explain why (I am guilty of that too), but if everyone did explain, we would have less rumours and more facts. As is now, selling and kicking which are 2 entirely different activities, are getting mixed up way too often.
If 4/5 are war/guard, why do I see so many wells?
This is an excellent change, much awaited for. While I partly at least understood the reasons it was originally character bound, and I am very happy to see that given player feedback and with new abilities added that made the old system cumbersome, there were no qualms in bringing in the change.
Much looking forward to trying new things on alts
Every time I see this “You don’t need AR up to XX level” I am thinking that what they actually mean is “You don’t need AR up to level XX, as long as everyone else in your party has AR”
It’s not really that, more “You don’t need AR up to level XX, as long as you know the fights and what to dodge”.
Going to 19 without AR is fine, even with 0 AR you should be able to survive the agony.
20-29 is a bit trickier. Going with 0 AR at those levels can be done, but you’d need to know the fights well to know exactly when to dodge. So it’s ok for fractal veterans, not beginners, as the difficulty will become much harder.
Agreed on 10s, but for 20s that is exactly the point. Fractal veterans are not the people this thread is about – plus they have the sense to know when they do and when they don’t need ar and do not need advise on this anyway.
It is not good advise to give to new players, unless you want you lvl 20+ runs swamped with people who are new to fractals and have no AR, because “I read in the forums that it is fine up to 29”, and said new players being discouraged – cause dying to attacks no one else is dying to (and not because they dodged them) can be very frustrating.
Because someone has seen someone who was new and did fine without AR this does not make it the norm. How many have they seen that were not fine? It’s not that it is not doable, but it is not the optimum by far, and there is no real reason to do it. Everyone has some sort of ascended gear they can add AR to.
Finally, consider how a party with no AR would fare at the maw at 28.
If it is not ok for the whole party, why would it be ok for any one?
@Celestina: you may be able to survive all of that while reading a book on the side, good for you, but the average player does not.
@SSNeoman: It is not about being exclusive. I run often with my fractal newbie guildies and I honestly think is is better to run a few 10s until the become familiar with it and are able to get some ar before running higher. I would rather do runs specifically for them at 10, which has agony that is survivable, so they can grow to like fractals and join us, rather than have them die to every arrow that barely scratches the rest of us and hate the experience altogether.
(edited by Silver.3284)
There will still be daily runs, at least at 10 and above. And you really don’t need AR for anything under 20.
You can do even up to 28 at least without AR tbh
Please no. I hate it when people do this and get downed constantly. The dredge boss in dredge fractal is a guaranteed down for those who have no AR and can’t double dodge. In Maw, you’ll get downed in both agony phases. You’re just a liability to your group and forcing them to carry you.
+1
Every time I see this “You don’t need AR up to XX level” I am thinking that what they actually mean is “You don’t need AR up to level XX, as long as everyone else in your party has AR”
If someone feels fractals up to XX level are fine without AR, then I would recommend them to do so in a party that has no AR at all, before reaching this conclusion.
PS: I know most can be dodged, but for the majority of players most will not be dodged.
I think the sentinel issue will be resolved with ascended armour, just like it was for weapons. And anyway, you only need the 2 main pieces, for the others the difference is really trivial.
Back then, they cost 3g on the tp. New players can complain sure, but whoever played then and wanted them should had got them.
The backpack is a cosmetic item. While I agree rng is never good, it does not affect the game whether it is available again or not.
In many cases this not even a strategy. It is just that most SFR people right now (pugs and guilds and commanders included) instinctively gravitate towards attacking Piken. It is a game, we do as we enjoy and that side just looks more enjoyable right now.
Even if 1) was implemented ppl would still sell paths, because for ppl who buy runs getting a competent team to carry you through p4 is much faster and much less painful than doing it yourself in a party of the same abilities/knowledge as yourself. It would probably cost more though.
I understand what is driving this – 50 levels seemed to have proved to be too much and they do want ppl to be above 30 in order to experience “instabilities”.
But a more elegant solution might had been to delete odd lvls from the game and from everyone/everything and preserve evens exactly as they are in terms of difficulty and drops (before applying the changes on drops)- basically to just renumber them. So lvl 10 becomes lvl 5 and lvl 40 becomes lvl 20. Max lvl would be 24 and you could start your instabilities from 25. Pristines and agony start from lvl 5 which gives the amount of relics that the old 10 used to give.
It is still a “delvling” of sorts but more in name than in practical sense because it applies to everything and hence preserves the “pecking order” and the effort ppl have already put into lvling. You are making it faster for new people to lvl, but you are not requiring ppl who have already lvl’ed to lvl again.
PS: My highest lvl is 30, so I am not personally losing anything from upcoming change. But it does not feel right that I will suddenly find myself at the same lvl with those used to doing 18 lvl above me. And from a practical standpoint, I am not sure it will produce good parties mixing everything together in one pot. The lfg is already painful as is.
PS2: There is a precedent to this: the reset/cap of achievement points for agent of entropy and dungeon hobbyist when the leader boards were introduced. That nerf made sense though and affected much fewer ppl. The equivalent that would make sense here would be deleting the above 50.
Try pugging sub-10 or 10 for daily and you may even get ppl rage quitting at swamp.
Have no clue abut 48, I am just entering 30s, but I found the 20s pug groups to be much better than in lower lvls. I was kinda hoping the trend would be continuing upwards :S
There is this confusion about builds and gear. Yes they are related, but they are not the same thing. Builds are about traits, gear is just gear. You can wear berserker armour and not run a fully offensive build. We need to get rid of this notion that anyone who wears berserker gear has no defensive traits and abilities. A wall of reflection does not reflect any better when placed by a guardian in cleric gear than when placed by a guardian in berserker gear. In fact, I believe the opposite is true and even better with assassin’s.
PS: I also had no problems in the tower in berserker gear – but I only did the first 2 lvls, then had to leave to go to a teq kill to defend turrets in said berserker gear.
Because the obtained title has nothing to do with the activity it is being earned for. PvP ranks should be earned for doing PvP and not playing minigames. You may be wearing PvP clothes but I strongly suspect that has to do with the afk timers more than anything else.
Extreme example : Mad King jp. However challenging it might be, it is not PvP. It is a jumping puzzle and the other players cannot even interact with you. Does it sound reasonable to you that someone becomes a “Gladiator” by jumping? It would be like obtaining Dungeon Master title by capturing Stonemist 10 times, because of a bug that counted castle lords as dungeon end bosses. How would that make any sense whatsoever?
And even when minigames have minor elements of PvP, for example Sanctum Spring where you can delay other players, I still would not classify them as PvP in a combat game like gw2. I would only classify them as PVP in a game whose main theme was that activity – in this case a racing/(running?). Since GW2 is not a running game, I simply do not think these are proper PvP: they are minigames. They are even called minigames. They give you achievement points which makes sense but no, glory points do not make sense to me.
PS: Only possible exception would be Dragonball.
It also pops the pet out. Very annoying in jps.
So presumably one could become a “Gladiator” by playing lots of fantasy rugby? What is the point in that? I don’t PvP, so would be convenient, but no, ty. I am glad to hear they will remove it.
Question: why 10/30/0/5/25 rather than 10/30/0/10/20?
Try AC story, that is an easy one but will give you an idea of how different things are when alone compared to a party – even a low level party. It was a good and much needed reality check for me at least. If you are still into soloing after that, then try any of the above suggestions (except Arah 2, because that requires skipping)
I do not see much point in a format like WvW without server pride. What exactly are you defending then?
Would I leave my server? Yes, if it become impossible (queues) or depressing (toxic community) to play, but not just because we were losing. A low ranked server can do better and that can be much more fun to achieve than PvD-ing in T1. I am in T1 btw, so no offence meant to those who made their characters in a high tier server, or on a server that later became high tier But I am sceptical towards server hoppers, I think a controlled GvG or other large team but not realm set-up would be better for them and us.So yes, I think server pride should be encouraged and server hopping discouraged, perhaps by time gating server transfers.
Why would anyone be proud of the server cluster on which a character, that technically doesn’t even belong to them, is stored? One would have to have nothing of value in his life to be desperate enough to seek pride in bits of data rather than in what he actually accomplishes. Again, it is a business, create a problem, accentuate it, sell the solution.
I think there is a serious misunderstanding here with regards to how the word “server” is used in this context. It clearly does not refer to the hardware that holds your characters data or to the data itself. It refers to the group of people (note people not toons) with whom you collaborate in order to achieve whatever the game’s goal is.
This pride is based on how you go about achieving this goal and to what extent you do achieve it. This is not much different to any other game we play for entertainment, be it chess or basketball. Do you not take pride when a team you play on does well? If not, then why would you want to play on a team?
As to the comparison to “real” accomplishments, I find it really irrelevant. Of couse I was several orders of magnitude more proud when I got my degrees or when I deliver a succesful project to a clinet than when Sfr beats Vizunah. One is professional life the other is entertainment.
Or to give you another example: Of course I was more happy when my nephew was born than when I won 100 pounds in the lottery. But that does not mean I was not happy when I won the 100 pounds neither does it make me desperate for being so. Being happy/proud/sad about something that is not monumental does not mean your life is devoid of other (perhaps more significant) “important” sources of happiness/pride/sadness. There is will always be a variety of small and large, or grave and light things that cause emotions- the existence of the largest ones does not mean you should not have emotions about anything else.
I hope you understand the distinction now and what we actually mean when we talk about server (team) pride in the context of a game.
(edited by Silver.3284)
Just an observation; there seem to be several issues being discussed here:
1. population imbalance in general
2. population imbalance at off-peak hours
3. length of queues during primetime
2 & 3 are not tied to each other and the solution for each may be different.
Tweaking transfers may be a good idea for balancing peak population , but for off-peak population going to less populated servers does not make any sense at all. We do not have a queue in sfr (t1) at 4 am so nothing to be gained by moving down. On the contrary, quite a lot to lose, because there will be no one to play with or against in a t8 server at 4 am. Seriously, when I started playing in Jan, there were times where I was completely alone in sfr home bl and even now that we may have 3 and 4 hour queues at prime time, there are times during my morning when we may not have more than 5 ppl in a bl – do I really want to transfer and play with even less than that? When discussing off peak coverage, do consider that stacking on high WvW population servers (which ppl determine by rank, rightly or wrongly) may not be about winning for truly off-peak players , it may just be about having other ppl to play with.
And about making off peak points count less, Asian & Australians have no choice but to play off peak (and so will some ppl in eu/na because of their personal schedules), which ever region or server they choose. I do not think it is reasonable to make their efforts count any less. they bought and they play the game just like everyone else.
My 2 cents on this. I live in APAC and the lag issue for me has been extreme. As in I had to get out of WvW by 11-2 in the morning central European time (weekends) cause I could literally tell that a zerg is on its way (although not yet visible) by the lag. I had the same issue in organised tequatl fights in full maps -skill lag and freeze, followed by a dc within the first 3-4 minutes.
About a week ago I tried one of the programs that are designed to lower your ping by using a set path to a server near the game servers. Interestingly, it works. My ping is still high compared to players in eu and us (about 250-300ms) but I have not seen that type of skill lag. even in eu primetime, at least not yet. I will wait for when we play Vz again for the final test.
This is obviously not a solution, but rather a temporary patch that individuals (especially those in locations far away from the servers) may wish to consider in order to minimise the effects until the real issue is fixed.
To the original post +1

The problem is that reasonable alternatives are not reasonable at all. Champ farming, especially in queensdale, requires no knowledge of the game or skill apart from knowing the sequence and location of 4 mobs and being able to wp and run fast. Personally I do not think this should give any rewards at all, so any “alternative” the trainers would find reasonable (giving the same money in as little time and with as little effort) would be in fact totally unreasonable (too much money in too little time for too little effort) in my book at least. I am not against farming, but it does not need to and should not be braindead.
I think most of us that are very disappointed by the removal of a fun event from the open world are just tired of posting about it, especially since a.net doesn’t seem interested in fixing the problem or even saying “It’s where we want right now quit QQing”.
There are so many world bosses left as fun events in the open world, what does it matter if one is not like the others? I agree Tequatl may need some tweaking, but what is the point of reverting to the old version? So we can have 25 instead of 24 spam 1 loot chest fun events?
+ 1 Indigo, and the additional issue with Queensdale is that it is the most popular map for leveling new chars, so many of the new (and trial) accounts run over this problem way too early. Get started in game, do a few personal story quests, explore your first map , find a cave, touch a stone ……. and get half the map raging at you :-)
Not good at all from a business perspective.
25 SP’s is approximately equivalent to 5g… you’d think Anet would have considered that when making the prices.
Who in their right mind would spend 5g plus all those spores when they can just use SP’s.
Closer to 10g, if you use them wisely. So 10g versus 5g + 250 freely farmable widgets. Not looking so obvious now ….
It’s faster to farm those 25 skill points than 250 “freely farmable” widgets. Even if you do only the living story.
Actually it isn’t, I got a 100+ in just over a hour.
Sometimes when you harvest you get 2-3 swipes and 10-15 of them, other times around 4-5 and sometimes just 1. Its like a 33% chance at either.
Some players don’t realise skill points can be turned into gold, 5+ gold to be exact.
So Anet’s pricing is spot on really.
How do you turn skill points into gold?
Mystic forge, but no, look you get about a level and half from of champ farm in FGS or CS, if you are in CS you end up with at least 30 scrolls, FGS maybe 20~ after all the box opening with typical luck.
So you not only earn the gold from champ farming but save all the potential gold wasted on the heal skill and can earn more if you sell the toxin thingys instead of using them up.
You mean by using them to create weapons to sell? (anomaly for example?) This is the part I am trying to understand: how to convert skill points to gold, not how to get skill points, I have way too many of those already.
T3 Cultural Armor costs over 100g (and is rare quality, so you need 6 extra Trans Crystals for it to be at max armor)
Converting gold to gems, you can buy
100 gems = 7g (from spidy)
800 gems = 7 × 8g = 56gTo me it comes down to the same thing.
Phoenix armor = 56g
T3 Cultural armor = 119g + price of 6 transmutation crystals. So Phoenix armor is less than half the price of T3.
So if you cannot afford Phoenix armor, then you clearly cannot afford T3 Cultural armor? But that’s an in-game armor…no gems required.[removed for length]
1380 Ascalonian Tears for the armor = 60 tokens per path = 23 AC paths.
you get 1.5g per AC path.
56g can be made by running AC in 37 AC paths.[removed for length]
Shenanigans and double standard…
Your problem does not lie in the gold/gem value of the armor, but rather you just dislike the idea of armor being available on the gemstore. You have a problem with those who can simply take the easy way out and throw in $10 get the armor faster than you make the 56g.I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. I never once mentioned tier 3 cultural armor. I want armor to be added to the game, without the use of the gem store. That’s all I’m saying here. If a merchant was added that would sell you the new armor, I assume it would be different-looking than the current armor, have the same stats, but it would be the same price as buying your gear off of the TP. It would be somewhere around 20 gold. I can afford 20 gold. Not 56. Not 100. Not 200. But this topic isn’t about prices. I just want armor to be added to the game with use of the gem store… period. Please stay on topic and add positive comments to the discussion.
The only armour sold by merchants in game is karma armour, invaders armour, cultural armour and dungeon armour. There is no amour sold by a merchant that costs 20g, so not sure why you would expect any armour added to in game merchants in the future to cost that amount.
But the main point Turtle made is that anything in the gemstore is obtainable by 2 methods: $$ or in game coin – therefore the “some ppl are not able to obtain gems” does not apply, since they can buy with gold. The comparison of prices IN GOLD was done to further show that gemstore armour is actually cheaper or comparable to the end game armour in game – hence the “ppl who cannot obtain” should be happier with gemstore armour than with the addition of lets say a new T3 (or god forbid T4) cultural and not much troubled compared to the addition of a new dungeon armour.
I am really baffled as to what your objection to the gemstore is. Your OP talked about “ppl who are unable to obtain gems”, but this is not applicable as Turtle showed. And when he pointed it out, you just brushed it side and told him “its not about prices”.
So what IS IT about? Saying " I just want armor to be added to the game with use of the gem store… period. " without offering any reason for it is not a good argument. And unfortunately, the only reason I can think of for so vehemently objecting to gemstore armour, is, as Turtle earlier assumed, in order to stop other people from buying it with cash rather than with in game gold. In my book that is not a good reason – it is a rather selfish reason.
Ps: Turtle, sorry for the editing, apparently I reached the max char limit and had to cut out

Oh, but I did read them, I just did not feel like commenting on the rest. So, I am sorry, but my disagreement with you is genuine and not because I did not read your posts. Kindly refrain from being patronising. You have no idea what “people like me” are like. Ty.
Considering current arah token conversion rate, 4g is pretty much zero loss.
Jussayin’
arah token conversion rate?
you can already buy the inscriptions with guild commendations and make the weapons.
- What are the typical alt leveling methods and which one is more viable?
I lvl’ed mine by clearing the lower lvl areas and doing the personal story. It becomes a bit boring after lvl 60, but at that point you can go into WvW and do the rest. Dungeons are fast too (just swap at the end) and following the event/boss trains.
- Are alts a good part of this game and do they make the game more fun for you?
Absolutely. It gives variety and a good knowledge of what other players can do.
- How do you go about leveling and gearing?
Whatever I find as I lvl, dungeon gear once they hit 80. When I know I am not going to play them for a few days I park them at a jp to get some gear from there.
- Would you say leveling alts is fun or boring?
I find 80 lvls is a bit too much. I think lvl-ing is needed so you can get to now the class (I would not have a clue what to do with a lvl 80 engineer if one was just given to me) but that is more or less done by lvl 50 or so.
- Did you use crafting to level alts? If yes, how many? Would you do it again?
Not much. I used it on one alt, cause I needed to lvl the crafting anyway. No, I would not pay that much to avoid 7-8 lvls.
- Do you think leveling alts should be easier?
I would like to have a scroll that adds 20 lvl, not one that takes you to 20, but only be able to use one at lvl 1 and 1 later on, meaning still have to lvl for 40 lvls (lvl 20 to lvl 60). If you are to learn the class some lvling needs to happen the hard way.
- What suggestions do you have to make it better (optionally)?
As above. Also, the skill points were a nice addition, because you can unlock skills early and play more with them.
Well…this is me. Hopefully someone will like it =)
My warrior is wearing the female version of this in more or less the same colours, except I stuck with the arah boots rather than t3. Unsure whether your chest is temple or coe though.
You can also get the dragonite from bosses from multiple alts and you can park them at the end of jps. But the main reason for having them is that it is fun to try other classes and it gives you a better understanding of what your teammates can do. It does not take much to lvl and equip them in exotics anyway.
The “Looking Ahead: Guild Wars 2 in 2013” blogpost is why people think it’s promised and is why I linked it
Today is October 25, 2013. Come back on Jan 1 2014.
I’m sorry. I’m a bit bothered at the fact that a developer would respond to this thread and completely ignore what people are talking about.
“I can’t see anything because of particle effects, and I’ve been complaining about this from beta” -Players
“Hey guys, we’re going to streamline the UI. You’re gonna love. K’bye” -Dev
What is that about? Am I out of line for being a little upset by this? Are we going to get all technical and do the whole “but the OP said”? What about the discussion and the major problem?
Whether you like the UI or not it is not game breaking. Not being able to see a boss and hence miss the signs of an attack that you are supposed to dodge is gamebreaking, given how important dodge is in the game.
Being told that “we will fix the UI” as a response does not help in the least.
