Honest question here. Say I’m trying to get someone into this game for the first time (but who also is a fan of dungeons and the whole grouping aspect). Would it be fair to say that, at least right now, dungeons are in effect, endgame only content? I was just wondering if people have success in getting a character who’s below level 80 to find a party to do said dungeons).
I know when I was first playing, this was not an issue, as most people were not yet at level 80 in the first couple of months.
I appreciate any insight you all would have.
Thanks.
Personally I will keep a low lvl player in the party in AC, IF they do not have a lvl 80. If they have a lvl 80, I expect them to use the lvl 80 and if they they insist staying on the low lvl, they can leave. Now, if they don’t have a lvl 80, I have no problem running it with a lvl 35 in the party; it is an easy dungeon after all.
Not all groups are like that, but it is not uncommon.
Prices vary based on the seller, but usually they fall between this range.
P1 ~10g,
P2 ~6g,
P3 6~8g,
P4 18~20g.
What the … ? Ppl actually pay 20g for p4? And 10 for P1? P1?
Not trying to ruin anyone’s busines, but the prices are … oh dear ….
It would be nice if all the player effects were severely toned down – think transparency in powerpoint graphics – while the boss remains brightly ON TOP off all of this. so that the tells are still visible.
“Dodge when you see a symbol on the ground” Yeah, right ……..
It really depends on your traits – switching am armour set does not make a dps guardian into a WvW support build, even if you switch to clerics. On another note, personally I am not comfortable with knight’s cause I feel I lack vitality more than I lack toughness, but I know many ppl use them. So, yes, probably a mix, which you will have to work out as you play. Either way, keep the zerk set for when you have to solo camps – which is pretty annoying in pvt or clerics.
I’m 38, and am laughing at the ‘oh how nice the ancient decrepit mummies over 30 can still coordinate their feeble hands and eyes to click a mouse!’ feeling in the air.
I like you.
I like you both.
I prefer the numerals too – no clutter on the page and easier to refer to. There are far too many traits to be able to remember their icons anyway.
Ty for the input guys.
sorry Husky, perhaps the joke was not clear. What I meant so say if that if the reason you can’t do cross EU -NA dungeons was that it would be laggy for the players in such an instance, then by the same logic (to avoid lag), WvW should be permenantly disabled given how bad the lag is. The original question is irrelevant to WvW, it is only about dungeons.
I was about to start on staff guardians, then saw the post above.
On topic, the issue I see is not PVE-ers in general. I would probably count as a pver myself, playing WvW about 20-30% of my time.
But a lot if not most of the players we are getting now (especially the first day) are just the living story achievent chaser/pinata breaker type of player. They are not a decent example of a PVE player or decent players in general. A good PVE player would at least be able to solo/duo/trio a camp or kite a buffed supervisor without dying in 5 seconds, not to mention they would be able to recognising the need for strategy and following instructions – they do it in 5s in dungeons, why not here. But the losely and randomly placed train that was mass roaming the maps on saturday was not able of either.
Advance apologies if anyone is offended by this description. I would love to see more PVE players venturing into WvW and would be glad to help with the little I know, but not this type.
Ps: Chessrook, if you are on sfr, give me a shout.
Would make sense, but I somehow doubt this is the case or WvW would be permenantly disabled.
I was wondering if anyone knew why it is not possible to do dungeons accross EU and NA servers. And whether these is any chance this will at some point change.
I actually find it astonishing that not only there are players that think it is ok to abuse the mechanics thus, but they would even try to present those who complain about such abuse as the bad guys here.
I do not do PvP so naturally, I do not get achievements like this. If I felt I “neeeded” them (another odd concept) I would put my head down and PvP to get them. If I could not, then tough luck. Sorry but all the “games forcs you to grind” and " It doesn’t affect you", “I play my way” just reminds me of spoiled children. If one does not understand the concept of rules in a game, they should play in their own backyard, not in an MMO with other people.
They are either doing it for glory or for APs. Either way it is cheating. It is exactly using exploits in a dungeon in order to get the gold and tokens – or your dungeon master title – and then saying “Why do you care how I play the game in an instance with my friends?”
1. WvW: Squad system & meaningful ways of obtaining the commander tag
2. WvW: Ways to limit night-capping trains
3. Acceptable and non-acceptable grind – what the players feel is too much, or simply in the wrong direction
4. Acceptable and non-acceptable rng – as above
5. Ascended & legendary items acquisition
6. Revamping world bosses without causing the game-breaking lag some of us are experiencing in Tequatl.
7. Lfg tool tweeking
I know it is more than 3, but could not really choose
I would love if they were account bound instead of soulbound. Suggestion: include an item that you can use to unbind a similar tool (“unbind sickle” if you are buying a sickle and so on) when you purchase one of these. This would allow players to move the previous to an alt and replace it while still keeping them soulbound.
No, this thread is not serious. Its just another “nerf what I don’t like” thread.
Collecting data and interpreting data are 2 quite different activities.
Metrics are neutral and only give you a single answer to a single question. Other metrics may provide supporting data or context – we have very little in this case.
All the data shows is how many players logged into the game. It does not say whether they are satisfied, whether they are willing to spend more money or whether they are willing to recommend the product to their friends.
Most companies will run customer satisfaction surveys on top of using sales data and (if applicable) usage data – the crucial difference is that csat data gives you detail that you cannot get from metrics (why? what exactly?), it gives insight on expectations and it tells you something about future sales and usage. An unhappy customer may still be using your service now, but there is a risk (proportionate to how unhappy they are) to lose them in the future.
Relying on a single datapoint without context is very risky. Even sales data (in most cases extremely reliable) and usage data are not immune to this.
At least be consistent. Either it is RNG, so there can’t be any people consistently making money out of them (cause RNG is by nature not consistent), or there are ppl consistently making money out of it, which means they have found a way around the RNG – meaning they make money not just out of “dumb luck” but out of some sort of planned activity, whatever that is.
But you just cant have people consistently making money out of RNG.
-1 for weapons
+1 for armour
Soon I’m going to read that elitists are responsible for global warming and famines in africa.
Of course. Westerner elitist who only socialise with other westerner elitists and do not give their time to help others. You should volunteer at least 30% of your time every year in building wells in some remote African village to help local people, or if you can’t handle travelling then at least said amount of time should be spent teaching your profession for free to disadvantaged kids of your inner city. What? you have your own life instead? You are a selfish elitist scumbag! Your kind is exactly what is wrong with the world!
DISCLAIMER: I have every respect for ppl that do volunteer to help others under harsh conditions and no intention to belittle their work though above humorous piece. I just do not expect it from everyone and I don’t bash myself for not doing it.
No I do not want another circus/moulin rouge skirt
The mens version of light armor is very circusy
Possibly – I did not look at male. I was mostly referring to the Phoenix legs with their lingerie (added to the starter armour, various conjurer, even temple armour) that really look a lot more like a Moulin Rouge show than this one. For this one, it seems to me at least to be possible to make it look a bit more battle relevant, and up to now there is only vigil in this style.
I actually like the light and medium, especially the medium.
And again on human/norn females.[/quote]
I do not have asura or charr, especially charr, cant stand them regardless of the armour they wear, so cant say. Aside of that, the issue of clipping on these races and of armour generally being a bit silly on them is not the same as to whether these sets are good. It is a different thing to say “OMG, this armour is terrible” and a different thing to say “Fix the bloody armours on charr/asura”. It is not just this one, it is all of them almost and all need to be attended to and modified for the other races.
I actually like the light and medium, especially the medium. They are different than most sets, yes, and that is exactly what is interesting. No I do not want another circus/moulin rouge skirt (have enough of those) and no I do not want another trenchcoat (have enough of those too). Granted, some pieces are not to my liking (mostly shoulders and boots) but some pieces are very much to my liking. I always mix sets anyway and I am sure there will be suitable choices for these pieces in the already existing sets.
I also think that because there is a lot of detail, the sets are very sensitive to color choices which might explain why they look so hideous in some cases.
Cant see anything interesting in the heavy armour though, it seems way too bulky.
““kill helo!!” " was probably tellin you to kill the holograms which is how you destroy the generators and you guys didnt understand, he saw that and probably thought it would be a waste of time to continue.
You mean that typing “Guys, you kill the generators by killing the halos, please focus on halos, do not attack gens” was too much of an effort?
I finished this dungeon and we only had one guy rage quit on the oozes. Oddly once replaced, we did the oozes on the second try like a walk in the park.
My issue is that the mechanics are interesting and punishing yet ppl see fit to explain them in two word sentences: “kill halo”, “follow path”, “kite ooze” and then have the expectation that once this direction is given, you will immediately proceed to follow it flawlessly. How am I supposed to know how to kite the ooze if I had no time to see the spring? Where am I supposed to kite the ooze to if I did not get to see the end of the path yet?
And at the end of the day, part of the fun is to understand the mechanics. Sure, I will kite the bloody ooze but you need to first give me 2 mins to check the spring and then walk to the end of the path to see the end point.
Put your pet on passive and it wont attack.
I am not aware of any mesmer ability that summons a phantasm on its own.
As for necros, do not summon minions in this particular fight.
Having said that, I would also prefer it as ally, since hitting the ele’s with a gs warrior often kills the ooze (yup, switch to single target weapon). But it is doable, and I guess not having it as ally is part of the challenge.
I’m glad there finally is a dungeon finder, but since I’ve never done a single dungeon I’m now too shy to use it. Maybe eventually I will try it anyway. I wouldn’t worry if there were roles, I’ve always been a good healer, but since there aren’t, I’m afraid I’ll screw up big time and wipe us all if I just jump into the lowest level dungeon and go. Of course that is what youtube videos are for, I’m sure I can look some up before I give it a try.
Don’t be put off. A lot of the people in this thread (and the general dungeon community )just have bad attitudes when it comes to pugging.
…….[removed to save space]……..
Let your party know you are new, most dungeon paths have been trivialised by AI and mechanics exploits, if your party knows what to do and has decent builds you can auto attack your way through a lot of dungeon content.
Pictures an auto-attacking gs warrior through AC
Speed runner I am not, elite/elitist I am not, but this is really bad advise to give to newbies. The game gave us 5 weapon skills for a reason. I would think using everything at your disposal is very basic in terms of knowing and enjoying your game. Even if you can auto-attack through something, why would you do so when the minimal effort of pressing a different button will yield so much better results? And where is the fun in auto-attacking anyway?
Corvindi, do go ahead and try dungeons, they are very good fun. Of course tell ppl you are new and ask them to explain to you what to do before they do it. A video would help but if its not your cup of tea, try to start from the easier dungeons and do story first. You can also find parties that specifically say “newbies welcome”, those are a better bet.
Dungeons are different to open world, even if only in some cases because the space is limited, but they are not that hard if ppl listen and work together. Also, dungeon groups are sometimes good source of advise on builds, traits, skills and other tactics, simply because no one in the open world has time or incentive to discuss these things while zerg wp’ing from one boss to the other.
On topic, the hypocrisy in this thread is mind numbing.
I do not really do speedruns and probably would not fit into the OPs desired group, but I do not get why you guys are so offended.
He wants to play with such and such toons. That is not discrimination, its his own business who he plays with and none of ours. If he does not want to teach newbies or play with necros, that is his own problem and you can’t force him to do otherwise via the lfg. Neither should you.
Personally, I would not want to be in a party that (for whatever reason) has different expectations than those I can fulfil. Frustrating for both sides. I would rather join one that has expectations I can fill. That does not mean that said party is better or worse – just not compatible.
And the “find a guild with like minded individuals” is a bit irrational. Everyone can join a guild of like minded individuals and thus no lfg tool is needed. So devs could say exactly the same. “Why you need lfg, eh? Go find a guild and run dungeons with guildies”. But I think we all agree that we did need an lfg.
Having said this, no gear/build check pls. I think the best way would be to just allow the party members to accept or reject the new member, just like when someone clicks to join a party outside the lfg tool.
One of the dungeons also gives dire stats, I think it is coe.
And again, if you don’t want to waste the time, once you see how it is going (or even once you count the players present) nothing is stopping you from leaving.
But that’s terrible design! Players should always have a chance at turning the tide, turning a losing battle into a victorious one. If players simply stumble into an overflow, where 80+ players are trying their best to bring down Tequatl, but they’ve only taken him down to 95% health, and you walk out…. how is that good design? Players should always have a hope of turning the battle around. It shouldn’t simply come down to having enough DPS to beat the timer.
No, players should not always have hope of turning a battle and they already don’t have in many other areas of the game. If I visit Jormag at 4 am on a map with another2 ppl, it ain’t going to die for me and rightly so. It should not be possible to do all things at all times in all situations.
I too would prefer a soft timer – what was suggested earlier regarding the hylek towers perhaps, but I believe there must be a way to fail this.
And I realize there are other mechanics that help keep players alive, and boost their damage output. And I realize that canons that need to be defended. But in the end it all boils down to “How much damage can the players do within the limited time”. If it’s not enough DPS, you lose the battle.
I still disagree. Right now it boils down to “what percentage of the time can I get my players to apply their dps”
The hp is not that high. It may be higher than I think it should be but it’s not that high. If even 50 players could constantly stand on the toe fully buffed and hacking away I think it would easily die in less than 15 mins. But we spend more time feared, knockbacked, downed or even dead waiting for a res instead of wp-ing than actually applying that dps. So no, I don’t think the lack of dps is the reason we are failing this, it’s our inability to stay up and apply whatever dps we have.
Even if you have no chance of winning you can still learn from fighting the battle.
In any case it is obvious within the first 2 minutes if you doing enough dmg. Players that do not wish to waste 15 precious minutes can always leave at that point. There is nothing to learn from a battle that is merely about having enough DPS.
I am sorry, but I did not perceive this battle as merely requiring enough dps. In fact, I would argue that if you get even 120 players with the optimal dps specs for this but just shoo them out to dps the dragon you will most likely not succeed. The mechanics may seem basic to you but you may want to have a look at what people are doing in the actual fight right now instead.
And again, if you don’t want to waste the time, once you see how it is going (or even once you count the players present) nothing is stopping you from leaving.
Even if you have no chance of winning you can still learn from fighting the battle.
In any case it is obvious within the first 2 minutes if you doing enough dmg. Players that do not wish to waste 15 precious minutes can always leave at that point.
Ascended & legendaries have better stats. Legendaries also allow stat switching, which zerker or no zerker, would work wonders for switching between WvW and Pve.
There is a practical purpose to these weapons now, they are not just for show.
I would expect a good player to work towards getting the best possible gear statwise, as it makes them more effective. Which in turn means that a good player should now pursue a legendary or at least an ascended.
And specifically on ascended: Ascended cost is around 60g (assuming you buy ALL mats) plus whatever you need to lvl crafting, which, however, only needs to be done 3 times and not per weapon. Given that even purely cosmetic weapon skins can cost upwards of 200g, I find 60g for better stats is actually a bargain.
Note that I have no legendary and I had never considered making one until they announced the ascended and the stat switching, since it seemed too much fuss & hassle for nothing – just for show. Now things are different. I do however have an ascended on which I promptly used a zenith skin because it looked horrible.
Agreed, I also have difficulty finding a good looking mace. I have been using fixer upper because its small and the correct colour. I like the zenith mace, but I did not pick it last time and I am almost 1000 ap away from it. Arah is nice, but it needs the matching axe and there are much better axe skins that that.
I have not run ac p2 since the boss bugged on 2 consecutive runs and refused to move past the first trap. Before that, I used to find it quite a nice run.
Excellent – I would love to join in too, will whisper you in game.
I enjoyed the class tips, it was something I had been looking for for some time now. Please add more.
Mesmer feedback works on last boss in Arah 1.
Give us the option to turn in unwanted ascended rings/fractal weapons/stack of fractal relics for 1 pristine fractal relic.
And let us buy Fractal weapons of choice for 25 Pristine relics.
That will suffice for rewards
Also… Taking off the account bound from exotics in Fractals would be nice too…
yes, let’s reward people who run lvl10 more than ppl who run lvl48 and completely devalue existing fractal skins.
notsrs
I am unable to see how that will reward more those who play lvl 10. Kindly elaborate.
Unwanted ascended rings are a pain – you cannot salvage, you cannot mf. They just sit there taking space, just in case. Trading them back for a pristine seems reasonable to me. Its 1/10 of what you would spend to buy them.
As for skins, you can make the number excessively high – 250 pristine, or 500 pristine – so that they still remain rare. But it would be something to work on rather than just pray for
Actually, this might cause more inflation.
Imagine this run:
cof1, ac3, hotw1 – > 3 gold.
That is more than cof1 repeats for the same amount of time, and it is something a lot more ppl may do than those who currently speedrun cofp1.
Also, many people do 1-2 dungeons a day – they will be now making a lot more gold than before. And a lot more will do with the rewards in place.
What I don’t get is why it is so difficult to have bare legs. Why does there need to be lingerie or some other form of usually irrelevant cover on legs? Bellies are out, upper legs are out, bums are out, even under breasts are out. Legs, cannot. Phoenix armour would be lovely if not for the lingerie. Now it looks like Moulin Rouge.
I think there is a relatively simple solution to the safety concerns. Introduce an item that can be purchased from in game merchants that costs 10g to buy from the merchant and also sells 10g to the merchant. In addition this must not be storable in the wallet but stackable in your bank tabs. Can come in denominations of 1g, 10g, 100, 1000g. You now have a way to store gold in the form of an item. I am assuming that given this is an item, the technical implementation should be simple.
Reminds me of a similar “10 million big note” that you could obtain in another MMO. But there it was used as a way to store currency beyond the limit of coins one could carry.
That would certainly be safer than the buggy guild system …
But it wouldn’t stop people from “accidentally” going: right click>destroy, and losing their entire savings in three mouse clicks.
Make it legendary quality and the game will force you to type the name to confirm or some kind of indestructible flag. :P
Anyway that approach might not be possible either. Every item probably has a single value and the vendor price is just calculated based off of that. Seems to be 12.5%.
a way around that: but 2 items from vendor with selling price of 0.5g. Put in forge and receive an item with selling price 1g/12.5%. Now you can this new item to the vendor for 1g. Night be more complex but will still work for those so concerned over gold. If they cannot be bothered then they are not so concerned.
its a pity that a thread over an excellent feature is becoming a thread over the one thing some ppl do not like about it.
sentinel is vitality power and toughness

One word: Dragon Piñatas.
Let me add two more: Launching Fireworks
I do not understand what the complaint is about.
The Black Lion Chest now has a common chance to drop Black Lion Ticket Scraps and a rare chance to drop Black Lion Claim Tickets, which can be redeemed for Aetherblade weapon skins
1 in 50, meaning 2%, sounds rare to me and 13 in 50, meaning 26% sounds common to me. Bear in mind the statistical error between 4% and 13% for your sample size of 50, dependant on the actual values of these chances.
Black Lion Chest Keys are now a rare drop from the Black Lion Chest. Most key drops have been replaced by Black Lion Ticket Scraps.
Being rare, I am not surprised you got 0 again given the small sample size.
What exactly did you expect when you read a “rare” or “common” chance?
I am all for the “Do not buy RNG boxes” campaign, I never buy them, but that does not mean that every complaint against them is valid. If 2% and 25% are indeed the drop rates, then I think they are exactly as advertised. If you decide to buy them, you take your chances as advertised and I do not understand why you are complaining so loudly when they give you exactly what they said they will give you.
I see no issue with putting it in gemstore. There are 20+ sets available through in game means, only 2 through store. And you can change gold to gems anyway.
@ Manasa: You are missing the point. The issue with the forum whining about things being “too hard” is that unfortunately, if too many ppl whine loud enough, sometimes things get changed and up to now I do not think this has not been to the better. Not to mention that what is often meaningful critisism and suggestions are lost in the noise of meaningless whining.
@ Arden: And why exactly is the cache PvE content?
Why do so many people cry like 7 year old kids wanting a toy?
To the whiners…..the sooner you realize you will have to work your butt off for the rest of your life for anything you want…the better. Start today. Stop whining, and go do. Just do.
Amen..
Any people telling people to just kitten up and the that achievement isn’t necessary are the exact trolls that are killing you in the puzzle ‘for the lulz’ and using that excuse to try to justify their actions. These are the types of players that are toxic for the community.
Just my two cents.
No. There are those who are frankly tired of the constant whinig and people feeling entitled to complain and scream and cry about anything and everything that is not to the PERSONAL liking as if they are the center by which everything must be measured: “If I can’t do it/don’t like it then it must obviously be nerfed/removed”. This attitude is what is toxic.
In this case, you’re trying to reach the end of a jumping puzzle. This doesn’t require you to fight other players to achieve the goal.
That’s the problem.
The actual goal is to reach a certain destination via your ‘jumping skill’ more or less. That makes it PvE. If you were required to fight other players in order to score toward said achievement, granted.
But it’s not required. It’s incidental because of the area. Again, it’s PvE.
No, eb jp is not PvE. It is very much PvP. And it is not incidentanl because of the area it is in – there are traps in that jp and given there are no creatures, these traps are designed to be used on players. Even the rewards of the jp are PvP. eb jp is PvP because it has been designed as PvP, not because is was placed in a PvP area by ovesight.
Anyone seriously offended by people pvp-ing in a pvp zone needs to take a step back and calm down.
We aren’t offended with PvP people PvP-ing ina PvP zone. We’re offended with having to deal with PvP in the middle of a PvE content. Mixing those two is never a good idea.
Then feel free to be offended by whoever put the content there, which is an entirely different matter than reporting attacking players for grieving. Large part of this thread is based on the (entirely PvE) misconception that attacking someone (even in a PvP zone) is somehow nasty and mean, instead of the very purpose of a PvP zone.
“Rude to start a fight in a PvP zone”. Seriously?
Furthermore – exactly why is this PvE content? I could as easily argue that since it is in a PvP zone and apparently you need to kill people and avoid being killed in order to achieve it, it is very much PvP content. Being in an achievement tab does not in and of itself make it PvE content.
I also beg to differ with your assessment that this type of content is never good. Keeping your opponents away from a valuable objective (farming spots, lvling spots, bosses) is not a new concept at all in PvP gaming – the purpose of it is to stimulate and sustain fights around said objectives.
Now, this particular implementation of the concept might be crap. However, this is because the players who are naturally in that zone (WvW-ers) and who would be able to initiate and sustain these fights do not really consider the objective valuable and therefore do not really bother fighting over it. It’s not because a bunch of self centered completionists who never visit this zone otherwise cannot have their achievement by walking in the park.
Anyone seriously offended by people pvp-ing in a pvp zone needs to take a step back and calm down.
Why you would expect others to adjust their playing according to your desire and contrary to the rules of the game is completely beyond my understanding.
