The new trait system was done for one reason $$.
Think about it, their going to get how many new players (China).
Do you think these new players are going to spend the time and trouble to unlock traits by grinding/world event etc, or spend some $$ to unlock them.
I totally agree with you Carzor.
What the hell is this? To unlock a minor trait I have to get a zone to 100% completion???!!! This is complete kitten! I shouldn’t be forced to do something that has always been optional just for people who wanted legendaries, It’s like Arenanet can’t stop making this game worse and worse with each update, what the flying kitten!
You can also just buy the trait.
Here’s the cost for the traits if you buy them.
What they should have done (this is what I thought it was going to be) was a bunch of personal quests to unlock each trait, not rely on other ppl to work together.
Guess what, you can’t get people to work together in the real world, how on Gods green earth do you expect that in game.
I really think why they set it up this way, was to get people to spend $$ to unlock traits.

Colin did an interview with MMORPG’s David North recently. Here is a quote:
“..That’s one thing we know we’ll be doing going forward, and that is to continue to collaborate with the community about what works and what doesn’t work and to enable us to continue to pioneer in this space..”
“..Ultimately we make the decision on how we move forward, but players spend a lot of time in the world, and therefore it’s amazing to hear their feedback and be able to move on it so quickly.”
I haven’t seen one response that addresses the concerns in this thread, or the rest of the feedback. Not one. Lip service versus the reality of actual practice. Gotta love the glowy feel-good interviews for the masses to put on a rosy image.
For myself, I came back to the game a month ago to roll up a couple of new characters in preparation for the next installment of the Living Story. I found the first chapter to be shaky and lackluster (to be honest), but hey, I chalked it up to growing pains. I was excited to be back in my old stomping grounds, and really looking forward to seeing what this season would bring to the game.
Then this patch hit and they completely overhauled the Traits.
Now, I have been following the forums since before launch, and I simply do not recall reading anywhere where the community was clamoring for this degree of change. Yes, new and better Traits and Elites have always been fodder for discussion. But, waiting until almost halfway through the game to begin traiting at level 30? And not being able to access GM traits until level 80?
It is a very unneeded nerf to the leveling progression. This is not an improvement. This does not make the game better. Nothing was wrong with the old system.
I came back to the game to enjoy my two new low level characters. I have to tell you, this does not make anything about leveling a low level Mesmer and Engineer enjoyable, better, or easier, or whatever selling points were tossed at us to swallow this bitter pill. It is discouraging and annoying.
I’ll tell you what this change did do for me. This morning I ordered and installed a new game from one of your competitors. I’d much rather invest in a company with a proven history of listening and visibly acting on feedback, than ignoring the community (there is a strong history of that here) when they react to stupendously perplexing game changes like this.
Well said!.
I know if they don’t change this major fail, I won’t be spending anymore $$ on this game or any game from this company.
Well if I had to make a guess, I’d say now it’s China and their All Mighty Yuan=$.
What they created was a way for people to shell-out $$.
I picked up this game only to play pve.
Because of real life, the times I can play vary, so I can’t really team up to unlock the traits in game. The only option would be to pay real $$ for the books. No way am I going to do that, it’s one thing to grind to level but to grind AND also spend $$. ain’t happening.
I know I won’t be buying it, now I wish I hadn’t bought this one.
I just started a few weeks ago ankitten ow a lvl 30 warrior. I just was feeling I figured out some things and now I feel like I just got shafted. Doubt I will play anymore.
I ‘m with you on this, I’ll be finding something else to do.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.
I had 52 Transmutation Stones that were converted to 17 Transmutation Charges.
Then I went and got the 5 free ones but they didn’t show up, still says 17 instead of 22.

The dwarves as a race have sacrificed themselves to fight the minions of Primordus to delay its return. They’ve been transformed physically into living stone and become mentally linked. I hope that a side effect of us killing Primordus will be freeing the dwarves from their bond and their return to the world (as playable characters).
That just screams out ’living story’
Oh, _heck_ yeah!
The epic year-long Living Story toward that would ultimately lead to the return of the Dwarves. It would be as much an emotional upper of an LS ending as the destruction of Lion’s Arch was an emotional downer of an LS ending.
Well next LS is about Mordremoth, which I hope is a lot more fleshed out than Scarlet, so maybe dwarves in 2016? Lol
Well one can only hope they do . "fingers crossed" lol
Heck, I’d settle for height challenged Norn.
(edited by Singh.8206)
Well I know I for one would delete a few of my characters (all Asura) and start over just to play dwarves.

I didn’t know about that, it would be a cool lead in for an expansion.
I was wondering if anyone has heard/read, if any future expansions might have dwarves as a playable race?
I agree with Seras.
I found nerco’s to be great for open world because of the minions you can use as cannon fodder and the quick health stolen from enemies.
Second is the Mesmer and the same reason that Seras stated.
Well if it is the Tengu and it’s part of the expansion, I won’t be purchasing it.
Dwarves, Please for the love of all creatures great and small!
Also add Great Axes.
I’d even spend real American deniro and buy a couple more character spots if they did that..
Personally I don’t do any dailies, as soon as I read the word dailies I had a flashback to wow, that’s why I quit playing/paying. I have a full time job, they pay me to be there.
I don’t like pvp or wvw, so that’s never going to happen.
I liked GW1 a lot more. Truthfully the game to me is becoming boring, so I’ve been playing less and less.
But hey that’s me, if you’re having fun then keep doing what you’re doing.
To each their own.

Guardian/Engineer/Mesmer
The rest are okay, except for the thief. I really don’t enjoy that class..
Tarnished Coast, Heavy populated server. Plus it has some really good guilds to run with.
To answer your question on leveling, I’ve noticed once I got around level 25 my necro started picking up speed making levels.
The build I’m using is:

Only use a staff, this build works for me but I’m sure there’s other builds that work well too.

No,
Need to fix this game first.
Increase level cap is terrible. It’s an admission that your player base is out of things to do.
Hear hear!
To be honest, with sidekicking, they could have set the level cap at 20 or 30, and left it there forever. It would have been much simpler to balance zones for 30 levels than 80, and any new content wouldn’t require a raise in the level cap.
A smart studio would create new content that people play because it’s interesting and fun, and not content whose only source of (smallminded and boring) satisfaction is being able to yell “DING!” and having light shooting out of your crotch.
I stayed at level 20 in Guild Wars for years and thousands of hours because the content was fun. I made so many alts that I had to buy new character slots (BIG HINT HERE, ARENANET). I wanted to try all the content with different classes, and it was fun to level when you weren’t looking at a months-long project to do it.
I stopped playing WoW after levelling one character because it’s a freakin’ drag to have to go through that grind all over again. I only have one 80 in Guild Wars, too. It’s such a pain the kitten to have to level. I just want to play the content that I like, and not be forced into other places.
TL:DR – Be a smart studio, and make content that’s fun and interesting for it’s own sake. Never, please, ever, increase the level cap. 80 is far too much as it is. It’s making me want to log out instead of creating alts.
Well said! I agree.
So everything they promised about the game, they’re doing a 180 on.
Not if they don’t fix the economy, drop rates, remove the gear treadmill and give us a proper automated lfg tool.
If they fix all this, I’ll buy it.
Nicely said!
It’s borrriiiinnnnnggggg!
Sounds to me like you’re upset because other people don’t want to “role play” with you.
If you type out some cuss words while I’m playing then guess what, I’ll report you also.
If you don’t like it then to bad, you agreed like the rest of us to the rules of this game.
Let me see you say something bad about someones sexual orientation/race/religion/handicap, and try to use the excuse it’s just me role playing.
If you get off cussing then use either skype or teamspeak. Then you can cuss till your heart content.
(edited by Singh.8206)
If they did bring the Unholy 3 into this game then it’s diffidently DOOMED.
No,
This one needs fixing 1st.
Their getting close to my no buy list like Activision/ Blizzard.
Either way no biggy, I’ve a list of other things to spend my $$ on.
Hello there old vets!
I have a little question for you: how do you like your new game? Do you think it’s better or worse than it’s predecessor?
Personally I had high hopes for GW2 but now I feel quite disappointed. I don;t say the game is bad, but the thing is it’s Guild Wars (which was one of the big advertising points of the game) yet core mechanics (variety of skills) from GW1 are pretty much gone, and most of the decisions A-Net make seem to take this game even further away (ascended stuff).
What are your opinions? Please share them below (I can offer cookies).
Guild Wars 1, great game.
I still like it a lot more than WOW.
This game is starting to go down the road to suckville!
Instead of charging you $15 a month, their going to gem you to death.
I don’t want it to turn into another AION, or WOW, but looks like they’re speeding down that road.
I don’t really like the looks of the legendary weapons.
I personally like a lot of the Peacemaker & Glyphic weapons skins.
Peacemaker/Glyphic Greatsword
Peacemaker/Glyphic Dagger
Peacemaker’s Staff
Peacemaker/Glyphic Shortbow
Now the hammer skins I’m not to keen on, so grabbing either Vigil’s Honor, Magmaton / The Colossus or Wolfborn.
What A-Net needs to do is make it more convenient (easier) for players to find others to group with for dungeon runs, it’s something I think they need to hurry up and incorporate into the game.
Until that happens like others have stated, checkout getting into a guild.
At least here finding a guild is a lot easier than wow (thank god).
Just like in R/L if you like an activity that involves more than one person to do you usually join a club, guilds are pretty much the same.
You do need currency (silver/gold) to play this game, and I’m not talking about cosmetics.
You need it for books to unlock traits, armour, weapons, bags, repairs. You don’t need gold for armor/weapons. You don’t need gold for bags.
Honestly using gold for armor is probably the worst way to get it. Armor you can buy is ugly and has a rather limited range of stats. Dungeon gear offers a wider range of stats and better appearances.
You can get bags by doing special events, in the past couple months anet has given away a:
10 slot bag (mad king)
20 slot bag (karka invasion)
15 slot bad (tixx)You can also do fractals to get 20 slot masterwork bags for only 150 relics, which, depending on your fractal level, can be obtained in 2 runs.
I repeat you (your toon) does need currency (silver/gold) to play this game, vendors do not give stuff out for free, nor do they repair armor for free.
The only thing you need gold for is repairs and for trait books.
You’ll get more than enough to cover that with any means.
So you finally agree, that you need currency (silver/gold) to play this game.
Do you need gold?
Yes
The amount you need is so tiny and insignificant that no matter what you do you should never be short on gold.
Okay cool.
Just making sure that you understand that there is currency used in this game.
I mean it was you that made a post on how to make gold in this game?
Since most vendors only accept silver or gold in trade for what you want from them.
Wish they would take a personnel check, but I guess npc vendors don’t trust us players. lol

Try playing a warrior 1st for a few levels, then switch to a guardian and see what you like.
My personnel opinion, a Guardian.
Guardian = Paladin

The intent is to get folks buying gems with real money and converting to gold. Farming has been nerfed.
I agree with you Grunties.
I’m not happy with it and losing interest in playing.
Yeah, your drops (insert not so nice of a word)!
I don’t expect to get rich, but when you play for hours and hours and get really really poor drops and sorry pay-offs for quests, it kinda puts a damper on playing.
(edited by Singh.8206)
Juggernaut, and just the effect on armour, the hammer skin I don’t care.
Now the rest of the legendaries, I think look lame.
Who ever the designer is, must have a thing for “My Little Pony”.
One great thing is, I won’t be spending any time & gold on making one. :o)
With so many choices sometimes it does make it harder to choose.
What I did was tried out all the races 1st, I’d play them up to around 10th level, I ended up playing all Arura, some male some female.
Next was trying out all the professions.
So for the 2 professions that I’m enjoying are the ranger & guardian.
Also it helped me to buy more character spaces, I created a character for all professions.
Should I get a little burned out, I can hop on another and try something different.
Just play the game and don’t buy anything from the trading post but throw a few things on there every now and then.
I have to agree with Raf, if you’re not finding this game entertaining, maybe it’s just not your cup of tea.
Not trying to bag on you but some games my friends love and swear by, I just couldn’t get into.
Yes, in this game leveling does go by a lot quicker (thank god), which is better than leveling in wow.
I agree with GraynX, trying leveling a least 2 characters.
I’m the same way as you, I tried every race at least until 10th level then decided on all Asura characters.
I have all 8 professions, some characters are only around 10th level but playing other professions gives you a feel on what you’ll enjoy playing .
Weapons: short bow & axe/warhorn
Pets: Bears (Brown & Murellow)

Of course you’d very what you’d like, say for instance using the torch instead of warhorn.
(edited by Singh.8206)
A rooster, hell hound, snake, scorpion, and a donkey or mule that kicks with it’s back legs and sends the creature it’s attacking flying.
Ranger w/ sword, I wonder if the designers had a thing for Drizzt Do’Urden. lol
Doubt it – rangers have used swords since Tolkien.
On that note, much more likely inspired from Aragorn on the hilltop in the first book/movie with a sword and torch fending off the wraiths.
Never read the book or watched the movie, I’ll have to check that out.
Ranger w/ sword, I wonder if the designers had a thing for Drizzt Do’Urden. lol
Probably not, but they knew you would.
I do?
Only reason I know of the character is because umpteen million people in GW1 named their ranger that (same for Legolas) not to mention Guenhwyvar his pet.
