What I would do (what I am doing) is use a Ghastly GS while saving up for a more prestigious Vision of the Mists/Corrupted Avenger. Ghastly GS is nice, even when not glowing and will suffice for looks (for me at least) until I obtain my goal.

Sheesh people. You guys feel so entitled, it’s not even funny. I wonder what games you all have played previously where content was introduced extremely often and with no bugs – this sort of things take a lot of work and time.

This addresses the two major issues with fractals. Personally, I love fractals. And I applaud them for addressing these two problems.

I’m not sure what Anet was thinking when they made them able to be sold. Straight and simple, it goes against their whole principle of being legendary – although that was always an issue, due to massive amounts of luck involved.

Maybe not many others missed it like me – I feel rather silly now. At the end of the dungeon there is a chest that spawns on the map quite a ways from where Toxx dies, and as a result I didn’t see it in the first two times I’ve completed it.

Just a heads up in case others missed it as well.

Right, because pencils write essays, spoons make people fat, etc. Banning guns would be as effective as banning drugs – it wouldn’t be effective. Outlaws don’t obey the law – all banning guns would do is ensue their targets would be unarmed.

Honestly, the way my mind works, I typically think that items look good in proportion to their difficulty to acquire. It’s probably the stereotype for this sort of game, and I believe I fall right into it. I prefer to wear gear that is a token of accomplishment rather than uniqueness, although I perfectly understand why someone would want to separate their character from others rather than elevate it. I just don’t think that way.

Ecto’s are being impacted by very straightforward economic principles.

Demand is up due to being required for crafting Ascended items.
Supply is down due to being required for crafting Ascended items.

However, Ecto’s are not required in order to obtain Exotic or Ascended gear. Because of this, I severely doubt the Dev’s will make them easier to get.

What if all explorable zones...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sion.1653

there is something similar to this called an underflow, which is where if the map has too few people you can be prompted to join an underflow, which enables people on that map to join a cross-server version of the map (basically an overflow in reverse)

It’s been suggested quite a few times already, and I do hope Anet plans to implement it.

Right, that is basically what I was suggesting. I don’t see the downside to this feature – hopefully Anet does implement it. However, in doing so they would have to admit that some of their zones are scarcely underpopulated, and I’m not sure if they would be willing to do that. Hope they do though.

What if all explorable zones...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sion.1653

What if all explorable zones were automatically overflow zones?

As time goes on certain zones (all to some extent) have become unpopulated often to the point of <10 people in an entire area at once. This can make the game feel really isolated and lonely – at least for me. In some zones, this can even be downright disadvantageous, specifically in the higher level event-based zones.

This is no one’s fault and it was expected to happen – the initial game launch rush through each zone on the way to 80 has ended, and people are now more deliberate both in the methods they level with and which zones they prefer. Anet has given us a very large world that’s going to expand even further over time, and for this I applaud them. It’s an awesome place to explore and adventure and have fun.

But it’s more fun with people. What if, upon entering a zone, people were placed into overflow zones containing an array of players from multiple servers? The option to use a home world zone could be implemented as well just in case some preferred it that way. The way I see it, this would create a more lively atmosphere and restore the sense of unity and urgency in places like Orr, where more than one event chain could be feasibly done at once and some events could actually be completed at all.

What if Overflow zones were made standard? What do you think?

- Is this something that could show promise if implemented correctly?
- Would it be more fun to have more people in each zone, cross-server, or do you prefer having less people but they are from your home server?

80 Guardian – 87 deaths, 85 hours.

If this gets enough replies I might take the time to compile the data and determine the average deaths/hour for each class. We won’t get nearly enough data to mean anything but it would be interesting to see the trend.

Current standing at time of edit:

class – # deaths per hour (total deaths / total hours)

1. Thief – 0.65
2. Engineer – 0.88
3. Ranger – 0.88

Here’s the thing. The system is still based on RNG – MF just increases the chances of rare drops. So floods of rare and exotic drops and droughts of only porous bones are still going to happen with or without it, as it’s still gambling. 100% MF does ‘double’ your chance at rare loot, but it’s still RNG, so as people it all just feels the same. Who’s to say two exotic drops back to back (lol) were due to extreme luck or actually because of more MF? We can’t tell. I do use MF by the way.

At this stage they are interested in gathering new players (to get their $60) and unfortunately they think they best way to do that is flood (broken) content into the game and introduce new (broken) content before the old (broken) content becomes too stale.

Couple months ago, I was trying really hard to get some of my IRL friends to play GW2 with me. Now I wouldn’t want to deceive them into buying in to a game that shows no respect for its community and continues down a self-destructive path.

Not quite right, there is always a lever. In this case it is the Gem Shop, the only revenue from the game they have after the initial game purchase (btw looking at the recent changes for mats and setting the bars up for getting items it begins to look like a f2p game for which I paid €55). Ignore the Gem Shop and they will start to feel it.

By the way now it is clear why they were so eager to get rid of bots. Prices for rare mats go up, at the same time they lower drop rates and introduce new recipes with very high material costs = buy gold with gems to get what you want or grind for months. At the same time introduce gear vertical progression, meaning you’ve only a time window where it makes sense to get the items = buy gems to get the items in time.

….nothing more to say

Sadly, this is all too true. I really, really don’t want this game to implode in on itself. But it might be too late to stop it.

I suspect that this radical change is more to do with a change in their internal leadership. Having been in corporate America for almost 30 years, I have seen this type of behavior before. It usually happens when a new leader steps in or gains more power. You would be surprised how much one person can change the direction of a company.

If this is the case, then it’s really sad how all of the potential GW2 had could be thrown out the window by a few (or one) executive at the top.

I made a huge error in judgement, and its my own fault.

I did not adequately evaluate their business model before I purchased the game. I drank the KoolAid of their manifesto and was fool enough to believe that they would honor it.

My mistake was not realizing that monthly subscription games are superior to “free based” games who made their money off an AH or gem store. The temporal relationship to the events which has transpired only confirms this.

Subscription based games sees all clients as equal and tries their best to satisfy all parties and maintain as close to possible the core of their game as advertised.

AH and gem store based games run demographics on the individuals who do the most purchases and then evolve the game orientated to those customers. It is inherently biased and in the interest of the company above any and all other interests. This is true even if it become necessary to violate their own manifesto.

The manifesto is nothing more that a minor inconvenience to them. They have ran the numbers and have made their decision. I have made mine, you shall not get one more dime, and I will seek a full refund.

You’re right. The purpose of a video game developer is the same as any other business; to make money. And, sadly, when the demographic of people who actually spend a large amount of money on gems is not the same as their original demographic targeted by the manifesto, they’ll change. Because they have to financially. I just hope it can stay moderate and not degrade the game entirely.

All MMO’s have shaky starts.

I disagree. GW2 had the BEST launch I have ever seen from an MMO.

The launch wasn’t the problem. The problem is the poor post-launch development, the complete and utter lack of respect/communication to the player-base and this new direction that flies in the face of their own tenants and design manifesto. That is what is going to cost them players and money as a result.

There was nothing wrong with the launch. AN had success in their grasp but then let it slip through their fingers.

I generally agree with what you’ve posted; I suppose by ‘start’ I meant the first three-four months including and after launch, which in the grand scheme of the potential lifetime of an MMO of this caliber I still consider to be the beginning.

Your post is spot-on.

Here’s the thing. Anet has introduced new elements into their game that, as a player base, we would have never expected. Why? Because, before we bought this game, we were strongly convinced that this game would be different. It still has a chance to be.

Two paths lie before Anet:

1) Informed Trust from the Players -They begin to listen and respond to their player base. No, I don’t mean that they should cater to whiners. But they sure could be more open and communicative in regards to why they seemingly disregarded their manifesto with blatant disrespect to the players who purchased the game on account of what they told us it would be. Honestly, anything said from the dev’s will only help us decide for ourselves whether this is a game we still want to play.

2) Blind Trust from the Players – They continue their current path, which unfortunately seems to be a pattern of little communication to the players and when they do communicate, it’s so ambiguous or contradictory to previous statements that it’s like deciphering a cryptic inscription on a tomb right before the walls start closing in. This path would mean that, as a player base, we will simply need to accept that Anet has both our and GW2’s (they should be the same) best interest in mind.

Personally, I still think Anet might know what they’re doing. All MMO’s have shaky starts. However, they’re on a slippery slope with two paths before them. They can still remain on solid ground if they make efforts to do so now, by instilling (or regaining) trust from the player base. Option one is, to me, the only serious and legitimate option if they want to create a game that players want to play over any extended period of time. Option two will only lead to distrust and lack of interest. In my opinion.

Which path should Anet take? Giving us something to work with, or expecting us to swallow whatever they feed us?

How can they regain your trust, or is it even possible?

Excellent, very relevant post.

GW2 can at least avoid that mistake. The question is, will they?

Unfortunately, we will just have to wait and see, because they sure aren’t telling us what’s going through their minds. It just seems like these recent events have echoed desperation from them, like flurrying attempts to get as many people to buy the game before it sinks.

I don’t want that to happen, I would love to keep playing this game. But Anet has to start trying, and they have to be more open to the community. We’ve got to stop now, before the snowball really gains momentum.
