Currently experiencing this, not cool.
I use WQES for main movement with A and D being mapped to turns but never used. I attached special keycaps to the previously mentioned keys and R so I never get them mixed up when I place my hand on the keyboard without looking. 1-5 is default with 6 being Special Action. Z is Target Call, J is Action Camera.
I also use a Razer Naga with side buttons assigned as follows:
1-5 = F1-F5
6 = Heal
7 = Dodge
8 = Stow/Draw Weapons
9 = Elite Skill
10-12 = Utility 1-3
Mouse 4 = Weapon Swap
Mouse 5 = Auto-run
Everything else is default or not important enough to mention.
EDIT: My Keyboard is a Corsair Strafe (Brown)

Sensing a player that opens their Glider (even briefly) from 2000+ range away and throwing Homing Rocks at them is a bit much. I’m pretty sure I’ve had Homing Rocks thrown at me by White Mantle Knights that were even out of rendering distance, too. That’s pretty much my only gripe about the new content.
Wish I knew. I also think it’s ridiculous to force players to go ranged just to properly deal with the new mobs. Sure, every class does have a ranged option, but that doesn’t mean every player wants to use it exclusively.
This has ticked my friend off to no end. There’s a number of critters, and bosses especially, that have [can’t melee me] zones. The wyverns have a bad habit of doing this, and the floor damage is excessive to where melee can’t even consider going in.
I realize that melee is higher-risk/higher-reward, and that’s fine, but HoT is especially guilty of skewing the risk/reward for melee completely out of value.
Nope, not true. HoT combat (especially for melee) has a learning curve of sorts that you have to overcome before you can properly melee enemies. As at least one previous poster said, it’s about positioning. You can’t expect to just walk up and kill something, you need to be prepared for what it will do in return. This means you should probably be prepared to evade its attacks or crowd control it so it can’t fight back. Take the time to watch and commit to heart the things HoT enemies are capable of and you’ll be fine. Wyverns are actually one of the easiest enemies to kill as melee because they only have 1 attack that can hit you when you’re behind them (in the correct spot, of course).
EDIT: I actually played my Engineer as Scrapper (melee) through HoT content and it was really fun.

This game sucks. I once forgot to pay 40 gold to keep my cellphone item working a few years back AND THE DEVS TURNED IT OFF. Then I had to go to one of the dev gamestores just to turn it back on and they had the nerve to charge me an extra 18 gold.
I was using this TV item I bought (it still costs me gold every month to use, smh) to find out some people get to level 18 and get millions of gold given to them by their mentor account holders, it’s not fair. I think I’m gonna invest some gold into this minigame called Powerball. If I win, I’ll get millions of gold and might be able to win Outside!
Wait until you see how long it takes to level up.
For some reason, reading this thread reminds me of the all the times I’ve been chain trampled/mass CC’d while downed in PvE. Oh well.
The tears just won’t stop flowing.
I’ve never seen this happen. If anything, I’ve seen squad leaders go out of their way to invite strays and/or message us with “please join” in efforts to get something done properly. If I was actually there (or found myself available) to do the meta, I would join up or start my own squad if needed.
“Those 31 can be done fairly easily”
that is subjective, this is assuming that everyone likes to play gw2 the same way. That list of 31 is EXTREME pve. Exploring the entire world and doing every single thing in them for one mastery point is EXTREME. So all you are telling me is Normal in GW2, is an EXTREME pver, hence guildwars is a war against the machine. To some that is not normal. In fact, not only is it not normal, but I’m prepared to argue that it is actually quite anti-social. This makes that list not so easy for me.
As a casual/social/lazy player, I found most of these 31 to be overwhelmingly uninteresting until I got bored and pulled up a guide. Between gliding in Central Tyria and guides, these mastery points aren’t difficult to obtain so much as they’re time consuming. Seeing as I’m a solo casual, time management is the one thing I do have going for me. I can decide a list of progress I want to make in a session and I don’t have to worry about meeting anyone else’s needs while I’m at it.
I ended up grinding all of my HoT masteries with “the mob” during launch and already had 25 Central Tyria mastery points waiting for me. I spent at least 2 whole months parked at Mastery Level 141 because I just didn’t care. I got off my kitten a few days ago and did Golden Badges + Season 2 to get myself up to 152. I’ve never done any dungeons and have only ever completed 4 Fractals (no achievements) in a 2 person unit out of curiosity. I wouldn’t call this behavior extreme at all. I just had to sit down and really ask myself: Do I want this?
One thing I didn’t see addressed about Central Tyria Gliding: Will it be available to alt characters that haven’t hit level 80 yet? The reason I ask is that there are mastery effects (e.g. Leader of the Pact) that your account will benefit from once unlocked regardless of character level. Gliding is currently only available in Level 80 areas, so it’s hard to know if the restriction on a character’s ability to glide extends or will extend to their level or not.
You should have seen them when HoT had freshly launched. They were in the jungle getting it in with the rest of us. Most of the Anet players I’ve come across were actually good at playing/survival. It’s nice to see employees that not only develop but understand how to play their product well.
An option is to ask a 2nd player to join you, when that trial starts the instance owner should not exit the starting area while the 2nd player just go there and kill the boss (the 2nd player will keep all the skills), that way it takes like 40 seconds to do the achieve
This is how I got it done, except we brought a full group. That room got destroyed.
I nominate me, because I don’t really know anyone else. I play this game for my own personal enjoyment, so I stay away from content that requires grouping/raiding. The most help anyone is ever going to get out of me is where to find something in map chat or a revive/rally during combat.
I just checked and yeah, the trap alone won’t get a DH back up. The 6674 heal got me to 80% immediately, but that was it.
I’d have to ask at this point: When a DH is downed, do their traps despawn? If they don’t, then what are the odds that the healing from a trap would apply to the DH in the downed state? I’m gonna log in and check for myself now.
I just ran a test myself. It appears that you get the initial 33% Swiftness buff at a 10 second duration but the boon falls off instead of refreshing itself like the icon appears to be doing. I noticed this when I teleported to my home instance, since it was almost instant. If it takes you longer than 10 seconds to load into the city in question, it easily appears as if this mastery simply doesn’t take effect at all.
What are the odds that the character charging the staff needs to actually be a 400+ Artificer? My Thief actually is an Artificer so I didn’t run into any problems at this step. That’s the only difference I can think up right now between the two situations.
A map can hold 200 players.
200
- 15 flax farmers
- 3 Patriarch
- 5 Huetzi and Cotoni177 left after that
assuming half of those are doing other random stuff that leaves
88 people for Matriarch, Axemaster, Tetrad or 29 evenly split between those that is more than enough
You forgot the part where they have to actually be competent. A lot of people got so used to their cookie cutter setups from Vanilla and are now getting destroyed in HoT content. I do however agree, people blaming Flax farmers and raiders because they can’t get off their kittens and get things done is a poor excuse at best. Everyone just sits there waiting for someone with a tag to get things started for them.
I mean it has a damage coefficient better than backstab, costs less initiative, and has no stealth/revealed pre-requisite. It’s objectively the best DPS the thief currently has, and is also an AOE with movement and a short evade built-in.
There’s mathematically no reason not to spam it, especially since the rest of the staff is pretty horrible.
Yes, 3 and 4 are super situational. 2 would be good if it didn’t send you flying out of place on every cast. I got some decent mileage out of it while attacking an Octovine yesterday, but only because it literally blocked me from moving through it while spamming 2.
False dichotomy, unfortunately all too common in this community: “Soldier’s means you have no skill and don’t know how to dodge.”. Dodging is not exclusive to squisby specs, nor is a player necessarily bad for using other options.
This. I’ve been attacked by hordes of enemies during events in HoT when there were only 5 random players present, it’s nothing you’d expect. After enemies using all kinds of ground trails, charges, conditions, and any other nasty things they could throw at us, I was the only person alive, possibly because I use Soldier and the other 4 were probably using Zerker. Too much can go wrong as a glass cannon build in open world, and it’s foolish to expect ideal circumstances there. You make one mistake or something unexpected happens and you’re downed, that’s a terrible way to go about getting things done.
I show up prepared for the worst case scenario in open world, anything less than that is easy to deal with. Most of the time, enemies literally target me and ignore other players, which makes it easier for them to do their thing without having to worry about getting their faces eaten off. My methods get me results, and that’s all that matters.
It’s my opinion that you should give me your stuff.
Thread will be closed in minutes but before it is I may as well add that if more players only played thief as they do guardian maybe the class would be in a better place. Anet keeps chipping away at ele bit by bit but guard is untouched. The thief is the only class I can’t justify taking in a raid and that’s sad.
So, I don’t raid or anything, but I actually recently put my Guardian away in favor of my Thief. The lack of mobility bothers me, the gameplay as Guardian feels slower paced and DPS (especially aoe) is pretty faceroll compared to playing my Thief. I feel like I actually have to work for what I get while using the Staff, and that keeps it interesting for me. My Thief’s DPS is lower, but the CC is a lot less dependent on the enemy running over a trap.
Can I have your stuff?
Maybe they can introduce an increased price per bag slot but make it work across the account?
The only real issue I have with Ascended Crafting is that a One Handed weapon has the same material cost as a Two Handed weapon. I have to gather twice the materials to make weapons for my Thief as opposed to 1/1 for my Guardian. They could have at least only required a Lesser Vision Crystal for the single slot weapons, oh well.
-Wings of Resolve being affected by movement-impairing conditions.
I would find myself yelling “It’s supposed to REMOVE this!” as I stay immobilized in the same spot after using Wings.
-Shield of Courage (f3) being interruptible and going on full cool down without providing shield, or any of the traited effects.
When I first saw this, I was like “For real bro?” and the only believable response the mobs could come up with is “lolz, git rekt”.
-Reworking of quite a few traits (best to start with radiance and zeal)
I personally think Radiance and Zeal are fine, what problems do you have with them? I still primarily use GS so those two are must haves for me. Add in the traps from DH and some stuff is going to be angry/dead, or angry then dead.

One of the underlying causes is the “taxi” system itself. It puts you at the mercy of the LFG system and it blows. It’s a result of clever manipulation of game mechanics and if Anet did officially support map hopping as a viable means to get things done, we’d be able to literally open a menu and choose which map we wanted to join. It would show useful information such as how many players are currently on it and let us migrate at will instead the current system of sending players into an unending repeat of dead maps closing.
(or look at the lightning on the ground).
The lightning on the ground chases me around, I swear it does.
I’ve seen Pocket Raptors do this several times, it’s annoying and unwarranted. Even random critters/rodents in the wild will fully trigger your traps, but Pocket Raptors are always 50/50.
I have not seen this, however i know that if I dodge through your trap it causes it to miss. so maybe you only get the boons if it hits. i can’t attest for the pull but there is that.
We’re talking about mobs entering but not triggering traps and causing them to simply despawn as a result, not players dodging through them. We know that you only get the boon when the trap is triggered, the problem is that these bugged situations cause the traps to despawn when they should have been legitimately triggered.
Some enemy effects (insect swarm and creeping flame to name a few) deal damage to you but can’t be attacked by players. I find when those set off my traps, the traps simply despawn instead of waiting for an attackable target. Pocket Raptors occasionally cause them to despawn also, I think that’s completely bugged.
Exploring in Heart of Thorns. It’s like when you visit the Louvre without guide and chased by a pack of rabid dogs . Alone or in group , you will not be able to enjoy much.
I’ve actually had the most fun in HoT while doing things out of a party. When I’m grouped, there’s some guy talking to me, I have to respond. He wants to go do things that are usually out of the way, and the immersion is completely lost.
While in solo play, it’s one huge squirrel fest, while being chased by rabid dogs. Everything feels more like an adventure when you’re moving at your own pace and you just happen to run into other players that want to take down a champ. Even dying to the various mobs in HoT was a list of interesting experiences.
“Oh wow, he really did that.”
“I’m dead, I am so dead.”
“At least I scratched him…”
“No way.”
“What the kitten?”
“Bullkitten!”
“HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?”
After some of the things I’ve seen, I think I would have preferred the rabid dogs, heh.
I’m surprised you haven’t found the new Elite Specs themselves interesting enough to keep playing. I started on my Guardian turned Dragonhunter, and learning to play HoT in comfort was a bit of a curve.
After finishing HoT masteries, I gave my Thief some time at Daredevil. Unlike Dragonhunter, Daredevil seemed very ‘meh’ until I unlocked all of the Elite Spec’s features. That’s when it happened, fun. Extreme fun. While Daredevil doesn’t offer the direct “get in there and get some” to the point of almost feeling invincible type of play that I was used to on my Dragonhunter, it was extremely enjoyable to play. You have to actively monitor and play the field instead of just smashing things in the face and telling them to get some. My build also allows for an insane amount of mobility to the point that people message me asking what profession I am.
I’m still working out the specifics of using the Staff most effectively, but seeing the light of Daredevil has me really interested to see what else is hidden behind the other 7 Elite Specs.

Don’t organize a map with 30 min left on it?
If you shuttle people into the map the window will go away.
It seems you guys really don’t get it. Here are images of before and after:

I was there too when this happened. I could understand if it was under the impression that the map’s population was still low, but the icon went away once people started piling in to get it done. I even looked at the playback footage to see that the map closing icon had indeed gone away. If the game attempts to close every low population map without regard for time remaining to get the meta done, it’s literally screwing us by design.
It will all make sense once you speak to her.
One thing I will say, if you don’t dodge, block, profession, or utility skill yourself out of harm’s way when the shot is fired, it will land and it will hurt. I have to admit that it’s funny as kitten when I get targeted by 3+ of these during meta events, because the melee stack gets destroyed.
That depends on their definition of function. At the core, a function is a singular response resulting from the input of a user. When you input a command, you always get the same result. The only function this macro has is to left click; it doesn’t cast abilities 2-5 from one keystroke. By their definition, as long as the keystroke in question left clicks, only left clicks, and only does it as a result of the user’s active input, it should be fine. This is just my personal reasoning, and my right index finger thanks me for it.
Their definition of auto clicker is different than what DarkMagister is asking. Their wording is:
4. You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.
Instead of playing elsewhere, you’d be actively holding down a button that will left click whatever is beneath your mouse at the time and you’re only using it to left click for looting/buying purposes. It only performs the function of left clicking and only does it while you the player hold down the specified key when you willfully mouseover a qualifying item.
Your map needs to reach Tier 4 during the Day AND Night cycles for the Bladed Coat Box, according to: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bladed_Coat_Box
I agree with the OP, but at the same time yelled “OMG I HOPE I GET TO BUY THIS!” when I saw the Exalted Glider skin sitting there in front of me before starting On Wings of Gold. I bought it immediately today because it was only $5 and the Heart of Thorns glider skin doesn’t really mesh well with my current cosmetics. When they knew that these massive maps would all revolve around Gliding, there should have been no less than 20 Glider skins prepared with at least half of them being rewards for achievements.
To be honest, paying $100 for the Ultimate edition of this game with knowledge that I don’t have to pay a sub ever feels like I’m getting over on them. A few things feel P2W (namely boosters), but I’m a filthy casual, so it’s none of my concern.
I think I opened a chest in VB and it handed out 13 frags a few days ago. After opening a mastery chest, you can go back at later dates and loot them again daily. I usually grab the easy ones for frags even though I’m not in need of them right now.
There’s also one in AB at Bristleback Chasm (Weeping Glade POI). He sometimes likes to hide under a tree near the waterfalls.

The main problem I have with Shooting Range is that it hijacks my camera settings and there’s literally nothing I can do about it. It takes my normal horizontal camera placement and drags it to the opposite side, because reasons. I get that the Action Camera is new and shiny so they want to show it off, but someone went too far with the forced camera settings. With settings like that, I can guarantee that Gold will never be obtainable for me.
I’m usually good about rezzing in combat (sometimes I end up getting downed for it), but people need to be willing to wait. I’ve come across defeated players, leap in to kill the group of offending enemies and right before all of the mobs die, they literally just wp away. I just say to myself “Really?”
Overall, I’ve never seen a situation in which players refused to revive others. We were doing an event in DS earlier and “wiped” with the boss going immune at 1% health. It turned into a mass grave and all but we still managed to get everyone back up (despite knowing we were going to a scripted death), just cause.
Expect either millions of posts complaining about the new difficulty curve, or expect a whole lot of nerfing in the coming months, since ANet can’t decide who it wants as its audience.
1) If the Gold requirements in some Adventures were toned down, I would not complain.
2) PvE combat difficulty feels good (I play DH). You really can’t expect to have mastered your character in a manner that makes every fight subjectively easy in just over a week. There are a few enemies that literally destroy some play styles, leaving people having “wtf?!?” moments after getting laid out.
3) I haven’t played PvP since August so I can’t offer any opinion on that.
4) The mastery system isn’t the demon that players believe it to be.
5) I would literally pay to glide in Central Tyria, if that’s what it takes.
My birthday buff and heroic boosters ended last night and…instead of 5k exp per monsters…it’s down to 250 per. Subsequently, my exp rates tanked when those ended so now MR gains is super low….so low it makes me feel like I am playing the usual korean f2p MMO; these are usually designed in such a way with low exp/loots to frustrate you enough to pay up for boosters.
This game is looking like a korean f2p mmo more and more but I guess that is the direction they are going. I expect them to nerf loot rates to push item boosts in the near future. After that, maybe they will also introduce a monthly ‘premium’ service as well. In the past, I have never felt the need to use boosts but now they are almost mandatory to get anywhere since those give 10x the exp as unboosted…I for one am not pleased.
I ran out of boosts 2 days ago and while it’s definitely not as fast, I also feel a lot less pressured to get something done once I log on “because I’m on a boost timer”. For once today, I actually had the chance to relax and take in what was actually going on during a zone’s meta event on a large scale. If this wasn’t the direction they planned for this game from the start, I can’t say that they made a mistake by making this choice.
This is nothing compared to the mastery system we as players encountered playing EverQuest. This system has A LOT less points to earn and the progress is earned across your whole account. People are allowed to have what, over 60 character slots in this game? Could you imagine the effect of having to level mastery on each and every one of them? If that were the case for even the 6 characters I have, some alts wouldn’t be getting their mastery leveled, plain and simple.
