Exact same issue here, random ping spikes. Only seems to be happening on GW2, tried running other games to see if it’s an issue on my end and everything runs fine. Issue occurred couple weeks ago.
It probably looks worse than it is because most thieves combine it with bounding dodger, and they more or less have the same animation. But the only thing painful about this build is that it’s cringe to watch. Just keep your distance, let the poor guy tire himself out, then kill.
As a thief, UA is just annoying at most. But I can see where other classes are coming from as they can’t break the attack with stealth. What I do think needs fixing though is the auto following throw walls and ignoring los issue it has ( I’m assuming it’s a bug because I don’t want to believe devs are that silly.) There has been a number of occasions where I’ve SS up onto mid keep wall in PvP and went behind/under the bridge to heal up, and a rev has just UA from on point to me. Dunno if it’s a map or class isue, but yeah, that needs to be fixed.
Posting here is useless. Devs don’t know about thief forum.
Our stealth game too OP ;D
Same, just had major lag, disconnected and then when I cam back on I got a mail saying all my unlocked items/titles had been revoked. All of my Hall of Monuments unlocks are gone :/
We allready have a spear, but that’s underwater. You think they added it in there for underwater combat – which sucks and we all know it?
Just putting it out there.
Honestly at this point it wouldn’t be a stretch if they did that xD
Was hoping for rifle, but having seen these new skins http://dulfy.net/2015/06/24/gw2-upcoming-items-from-june-23-patch/ it does look like we’re probably getting staff instead which will also be interesting.
I don’t hate it, but I kind of miss the water views from the old design too. I feel like this design is too…landy? And lots of walls. Ah well, it’s alright.
IGN: Loctis
Playstyle: Mostly WvW and PvP, occasional PvE when there are goodies and skins to collect
Server: Gandara
Experience with thief: Mained thief since beta so I have pretty good knowledge of the class. I mostly spend my time roaming WvW or getting to know other builds/classes in PvP. I don’t consider myself a “pro” but I feel confident saying that I know how to play thief well, and how to handle myself against other classes effectively. Even though I prefer D/D I am well versed with most builds, I believe it’s good switch it up sometimes to learn how to counter other thieves. I’m happy to help others learn and understand the class, and also improve on the class myself as there’s always something new to learn. This would be a good opportunity to learn and play with other teefs, or at least share future nerf hammering together if nothing else
The problem here is that no matter what build you play as a thief, you will always get “cheese” thrown at you because of the “TIEF OP LUL” bandwagon and people who just cannot accept the fact that maybe they were outplayed by a thief.
So it’s basically if you kill someone as a thief, you’re a noob cheese build thief, and if you get killed as a thief then you’re just a noob. It’s better to just politely offer a glass of whine in the face of a “cheese build” comment
it’ll help them take it down better.
Let’s try something different since you avoid the issue. Are there thief builds you consider cheesy?
What issue am I avoiding? There are thief builds I consider to be cheesy, sure, just like there are builds I consider to be cheese for other classes. Doesn’t change the fact that when people moan about being beaten by a cheese build for any other class, you’ll mostly hear the same thing about one specific build (PU mesmer for example). Whereas a thief will get moaned at for playing “cheese evade” when he plays s/d, “back stab cheese” when he plays d/d, “condi cheese” and “blind cheese” and “SA cheese” and so on for whatever build he’s playing. And they’ll get this regardless of whether it’s a high risk/reward build or not, because the majority of players have some sort of personal issue with being beaten by a thief player. It really is just better to ignore it, laugh it off, op. I do agree that you should just play how you want regardless of what other people think or say, at the end of the day it’s them raging at the other end of the screen.

Likewise. I’ve tried various connections just to confirm it isn’t my own, and I got DC’d 30 seconds upon logging in, and can’t stay logged in for more than 2 minutes without getting booted tonight. Every other night so far I could last 5-10 minutes if I’m lucky. Sup with your servers anet?
Location: UK
Time and date of incident: Friday 27th Feb to Present
Server: Gandara (EU)
Description: Terrible rubber banding and constant DCs every 10-15 minutes. The first 5 minutes of logging into GW since Friday has, without fail, resulted in a DC. Then it proceeds to major lag spikes, rubber banding and more DCs throughout the night.
Bullsh… If some thieves playing like warriors – straightfoward – so, sure
But if thief playing like thief – this is nearly unkillable beast
Lmao your posts on thieves gives me a good chuckle.
So basically, we’re meant to not play like thieves and eat damage. Got it. And because good thief players can handle themselves against other classes and not stand there to die in two hits, thieves are just OP entirely. Solid argument there. In another thread you didn’t even know thieves could stack might, I’m pretty sure you’re trolling or just ignorant…or just a serious case of l2p.
Thieves ARE squishy, they make up for it with big damage. And you’re pulling your “thieves don’t die” theory from a youtube video, where people cut out losing fights…and in case you didn’t notice, mango knew when to back off and when to re-enter the fight, he didn’t just run in guns blazing and one shot everyone.
There are cheese builds on every class and you’re never going to win every fight. Accept that maybe some thieves are actually capable of outplaying you, not because they’re OP or omg invis4eva noobs. Jeez, why can’t people lose with some dignity these days.
So…did this thief actually manage to kill any of your party members? If all he’s doing is hitting a dolyak, stealthing and then coming back to kill it off then you’re not gonna be able to do much about it.
A good thief will be hard to catch, an amazing thief will run you in circles all day and lure you off one by one for kills. If he’s not killing any of you then don’t really see the problem, he’s just being a nuisance if anything. And if you do go off one by one after him then that’s your funeral. Besides throwing down some aoes and hoping he’s stupid enough to stay in it…just move along really. If you can get some decent CCs going you might be able to keep him grounded long enough to kill him.
New skills (and weapon sets) will always be welcomed, I loved the diversity in GW1 that seems to be lacking in GW2. Being able to choose which weapon skills you want to use via a similar mechanic as the utility slots doesn’t seem hard to implement. This will probably be better than adding a bigger skill bar, I’d like to see this in the future. That being said, I wouldn’t want to grind for the skills to unlock them. I think it’ll be good to put in a system like the old GW where you hunt bosses for elite skills. This could be implemented with new content where heroes must learn these weapon skills from enemies to face challenges ahead or something. Just an idea, I know we have something similar with traits already. While I’m against adding extra skill slots, I’m all for a mini sidebar where I can have easy access to items such as food-buffs and pots etc, insteadm of rummaging through my bags to find them x.x
Nice upperclass thief lol pulled that off quite well
Trying to break away from trench coats, ty anet for making a chest piece that isn’t a buttcape. Inspired by the Final Fantasy judges look and this is the closest to full “armour” I could get :>
Every fight I do, it feels like I have to greatly outplay my opponent to accomplish anything at all.
This pretty much sums it up. While thieves have to take every single thing into consideration like timing, positioning, openings, when to back off, when to blind/cc/interrupt etc most classes lately can pretty much roll their faces against the keys and be as (if not more) effective. I know when I’m being outplayed and happily accept that, even whisper the players to tell them how their play was epic and we have a great chat about it. But I also know when I’m fighting against someone I out skill by quite a bit, yet the pressure is still on due to the lack of balance between the damage they dish out and the endless and effortless defenses they have. I’m at that point where I’m pretty much desensitized to it, but it’s mildly irritating when someone is quick to jump to “omg thieves are op” when a thief beats them and it took a hell of a lot of effort to do it.
I was so excited for the new armour sets and I really loved the detailing in the boots, legs, shoulders and gloves…but why did yo have to ruin it with dat nasty coat? Can we please just move away from these trench coat designs? Wth with the helm as well. Why do medium and light helm look like they were just copied and pasted, while heavies get a brand spanking new one?
Basically I have a bank guild and about a month ago I was able to access it fine. Now I see two tabs, one with all my stuff and the other has a friend’s stuff in. I can only access one tab, guess which one? Not mine… I can’t deposit or withdraw anything or even rearrange stuff, on the tab it has yellow writing “Guild Stash (Gandara) you need to be in this guild for 3 days before you can access the guild bank” fair enough, I represented the guild for a week and still couldn’t gain access to my stuff. Am I completely missing something here?
There’s only one problem I see with this build and that’s the 6/6 rune bonus
(honestly can’t tell if this is someone having fun with the translator or if it’s pure coincidence lol)
Jokes aside, this looks like a fun build I’ll have to try out. Thanks for sharing
No, I wouldn’t like to compete with my friends in PvE. But thanks for asking. lol
Then ignore the option to duel if they add it. Is it that difficult?
I don’t understand why PvE players are so afraid of dueling being added into the game. What’s the excuse? “I don’t want my precious PvE filled with people fighting!” Is that the best you’ve got? Because you guys are the first ones to COMPLETELY FILL Lions Arch with stupid water balloon fights and costume brawls.
“I don’t want people challenging me!!!” How is this a good excuse? I won’t even touch this one because it’s such a terrible one it hurts.
There’s literally ZERO reason why dueling shouldn’t be added into the game. If you’re afraid of “1 on 1 confrontation” because you’re socially awkward and want to stick to farming, then just ignore dueling if they add it in.
It’s just a game. Get over it.
This so much, it really isn’t all that hard to avoid being spammed or harassed. And the only argument against dueling so far is the “I PERSONALLY hate it so nobody else should have it” which is kitten poor.
It really doesn’t matter what valid points people put across for how dueling can work, because to the people who don’t want dueling it’s only the matter of what they want, and what’s comfortable for them. There is absolutely zero compromise on their part, even though the people FOR dueling have given plenty of ways to stop dueling becoming a hassle for those who don’t want it.
The most “spam” I or my very PvE fanboy friends have ever gotten was maybe 2 requests when the first request was denied, and then they move on. And this was standing in a dueling heavy zone for at least 40 minutes. So god knows where you all are getting this scenario of being stalked home by a dueler from, sounds super exaggerated just to push your personal opinion onto others.
(edited by Slcrisis.6930)
+1 for dueling as always. wishful thinking though, I highly doubt they’ll implement it.
Again for the people who don’t want to duel, put in an option to ignore requests, simples. Doesn’t mean it should be cut out of the game completely just because some people would rather not duel their friends. That’s just silly.
+1 for addressing this issue
I actually unlocked my Stalwart set through pvp, but they never transferred over to my wardrobe when the patch hit…3 emails to Anet asking them to correct the transfer and all I got was “Have you checked these links? Was this email helpful?”…No Anet, it wasn’t helpful in the slightest, I swear they don’t even read the emails.
When i stomp someone with my Llama finisher I immediately do /dance. Thats the time when they go instamad and start whispering me kittening stuff.
And we only want to dance with llama bro, we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, ‘cause your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance, well, they’re no friends of mine…
I’m in full Valk atm and normally run with food buffs too, after patch I feel like that’s making little difference, did everyone suddenly get glassier? I feel like everything is hitting me for shi loads and I get quite low hp much faster than pre patch.
I killed a war several times in solo Q and he started calling me a pve noob…“hahaha pve noob go pve you noob”…it was baffling to say the least. Not only because we were clearly PvPing, but why would anybody take insult to being called a PvEr? Oh god no someone paid money to play all aspects of the game they must truly suck at life…strange indeed.
I prefer to reflect the grenades/bombs with dagger storm tbh so I always switch elites when I see an engi, from what I’ve experienced it gets a decent amount of burst back at them + cripple etc, makes them panic that you’re not kiting like they expect you to, and before they can react properly gives me a chance to burst them down after DS ends.
As an Engie, please use dagger storm. It doesn’t reflect properly aimed grenades (at your feet), and it doesn’t do anything against bombs but make you easier to hit.
Then I guess 90% of engineers don’t know how to aim, seeing as almost every single one I’ve fought just starts panicking like rabbits, leaving room for free bursts. I’ll know not to use it against you though

Are people playing on potato screens or something? Im doing dungeons and I’m seeing stuff perfectly fine, jeez you people are such downers

human bobbleheads…this is all that comes to mind, it’s amazing
I’m disappointed that “The Art of Combat” turned out to be about the Rune and Sigil changes that we were made aware of a few months ago.
I feel like the title they originally gave us was very misleading.
Indeed
I was really hoping to hear something about new weapon combos for classes in this one.
People need to stop throwing around bandwagoner terms without actually knowing how things work.
Mmmhm, people nowadays just flat out refuse to accept that they were outplayed if they were killed by a Thief (and other classes such as Necro and Eles too lately), it’s auto “omg I died the class MUST be OP nerf nerf nerf”.
People call for pointless Thief nerfs so much lately even after they’ve been nerfed, that everyone still think they’re OP when in fact they’ve been nerfed to the ground and it’s the majority of the good players who stuck through it and adapted to the nerf that are still coming out on top in fights.
If Thief players can LEARN TO ADAPT to countless of nerfbats I’m sure these whiners can learn to counter a Thief eventually, if not then it’s their funeral and Thieves everywhere will just be feasting on dem tears.
Really don’t think anyone on Gandara has a problem with losing, from what I’ve gathered it’s the attitude that comes with Desolation that annoys most people, especially what with the whole tanking business. At least learn to stay classy~
Someone already stated this.
If we (Desolation) were in gold league, they would be crying about Augury Rock/Riverside/Kodash… steamrolling them. Desolation champions, let them have a purpose at least on forums
No, they wouldn’t. Because they would have fought a server that they were meant to fight, not some smug server that flexes about a hollow victory. Truth is Deso cowered away from a real challenge and now you’re getting a stiffy because, well, you beat a server you weren’t matched for in the first place? Lol “Champions”…I’ve never heard of any champions who cowers away from a real challenge and then big themselves up for kicking on a weaker opponent
Have you ever seen a thief reset a fight when they were winning?
have you ever seen a [random profession] run from a fight when they are winning ?
your statement means nothing.
Yes, Warriors. I was on 50% HP and he was around 80%, he got stunned, before I did anything else he Usain bolted half way across the map, I checked to see if our zerg was behind me, nothing. I was very baffled indeed.
sad part is they probably do it better too :P
Would certainly be nice to have a wider range of weapons to choose from. For a class that’s meant to be versatile and slippery using anything they can grab, we don’t have the greatest selections. Dual swords and possibly crossbow could be nice, though I would love to walk around with a greatsword just cause it looks kitten with medium gear, I don’t see how it’d work for a thief (and I have tried very hard to).
Going for more of formal/soldier look instead of the ninjawtfpwn look. Getting bored of the coat now, can’t find any other one that’s more fitting other than the CoE one
Yes please, it’ll give some variety to the current designs….and I’m so sick of coats everywhere for our current light and medium skins x.x
Draw some inspiration from the old GW if you must. You guys were kind of heading there with the profane armor, except that just looked terrible, but it was at least different and not another coat design.
If people are fine with costume brawling it holds no sense at all why they wouldn’t be with dueling.
“I don’t mind costume brawls. I don’t mind them and I don’t participate in them.”
Dueling would be just like that. You don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. Dueling isn’t a serious aspect to people who actually want it and don’t mind it. It’s for fun with friends and people who don’t mind a harmless contest. And that shouldn’t bother you in any way considering you wouldn’t be participating in it in the first place. If you can go on playing the game while other people are costume brawling then why not when they’re dueling? If people are going to grief you, they can do it with any aspect of the game that already exists, and if that’s your big argument for not wanting dueling then you shouldn’t play any online game full stop.
Dcypher and others have made a lot of valid points for dueling, while all I see for the argument against dueling is “REQUEST SPAMS” which is very easily avoided, and is pretty much already implemented with the costume tonics. Is it really that hard to tick the “Decline all duels” box once and be done with it?
Friend looking to buy a decent ish PC and upgrade the specs as he goes, but he wants one that’s decent enough to run newer games for a while too. I’m no expert on specsand I know minimum stuff so just want to see if these specs would be worth £250. How well can it run GW2 and other newer games.

Don’t see how culling is the thief’s fault? There’s no perma stealth skill that a thief can use at all. And all I see in that video is a player who actually utilizes his evasive skills and knows when to back off instead of standing there and taking a beating. Admittedly he probably would have died a few times if not for culling, but I don’t really see how that’s a class issue so fix the CULLING issue? Why nerf a class over something that’s not even their fault?. Fought thieves in sPvP and I’ve never seen anything remotely close to a perma stealth, yeah they’re evasive and bounce around the place a lot but that’s about it. It’s hilarious that this class has already been nerfed plenty and people still cry about it because they can’t just mash buttons and insta win against something.
Recently just returned to the game and in need of a nice, chilled, English speaking guild. I play a Thief main lvl 80 don’t really mind if you’re PvE or PvP oriented as I enjoy all aspects of the game anyway. Just looking for an active guild so it doesn’t feel as boring playing through the game :P I’m 24, British, friendly and mature etc etc ^^ give me a shout, I’ll consider xfering if it feels right.

Thought I’d finish up a quicky drawing of my thief
Because why not :o
Just give Thief dual swords, with above skills, problem solved…It still baffles me why they don’t already have dual swords. And that anime started good and just turned into a ball of cheese. honestly though this class sounds like a Thief/Mesmer mix, with a hint of Guardian.
been getting DCs every few mins for 20 mins now, everything else running fine
Since we can already change the looks of gear and what not, maybe in the future there could be an option to toggle how your weapon is displayed. Would love to be able to carry one-handers on your back. And would love to see weapon dyes and quivers, looks odd pulling arrows from thin air >_>
/drum /guitar /violin /shakefist
They were awesome in gw1, sad to not see them in the game
