Can I buy GEMS using a Debit Card? (Ph)

My suggestion would be to take your shiny debit card to a game store, or any other store that sells game cards, and buy the ArenaNet Gem Cards.

They cost the same as if you bought them in game and are potentially a lot safer for you.

This method will also help control spending if you find yourself going into debt impulse buying gems simply because the game lets you (on a credit card specifically).

Strange disconnects every 10-30 seconds

This random network loss then kick is exactly what’s happening to me too.

Does your game seem to freeze up (as in you keep moving but nothing else does) then a few seconds later drop you to a black screen either with or without those posted messages and the only way you can close the game is to end the process in the control centre? That has been my private hell for the last two weeks. My disconnects can happen anywhere between 30 seconds to 15 minutes after logging in, but normally averages about 3-5 minutes of play before being dropped.

This appears to have been happening to me since the feature patch on 15 April only and at no other time before that. It’s been perfect for me since launch until two weeks ago.

For the ANet techs: I’m in the city of Brisbane in Queensland Australia connected through the ISP Internode.

These drop outs don’t affect any other online game (mmo or otherwise) that I have installed on my computer. And I only rebuilt my rig about 2 months ago, so everything in it is brand new.

I can’t seem to find this anywhere else, so I’ll ask here.

I had two town clothes costume sets on a couple of characters. Way back at the dawn of the game I bought the Witch set and the Mad King set (they might have come as a two-fer). My ranger was wearing the Witch set. This has been on her pretty much since they came out. It was a fetching purple and I loved zooming around on the broom. I’ve done most of my costume brawls on this melting into puddles, so I’m not trying to pull a swifty here. Much later on (only a few months ago), I put the Mad King set on my Ele.

When the feature patch went live, like everyone else I logged in on my Ele and went nuts checking everything out. I converted the Mad King set over and added it to the Wardrobe. When I remembered that I hadn’t converted Witch set on my Ranger, I logged onto her to retrieve it to switch it over to the wardrobe only to find I have apparently ‘lost’ the set.

It appears that regardless of the Witch set items that character had in slot, the Wardrobe is overriding it and is insisting that I only have the Mad King set. I also now have a stack of 5 (? not sure on the number) Mad King sets in my bank.

How can I retrieve the Witch costume set?

All I can say is ‘edge scraping’.

While I can sympathise with you about POI’s and other areas that pop that aren’t POIs but required for completion being hard to find, giving a map hint by flashing an undiscovered area is just too easy. The second or third go around should technically be easier because you’ve already done it once but is still a p.i.t.a.

Case in point was Queens Gauntlet, specifically the pavilion rather than the 1v1 stuff on the ring above. It was dead on week 3 and 4 because everyone was off doing the new stuff.

I can see the problem with your suggestion. If your account is compromised, the hacker can add anyone to your friends list (presumably the holding/pass-off account), white-list it, then still snaffle all your stuff in a few seconds anyway. Unless they’re hacking around that of course. But I digress.

While the mail suppression is as frustrating as wrangling fluffy kittens at dinner time, it can put a certain kind of brake on this action.

0-400 only gives 7 levels now ??

in Crafting

Posted by: Snoflake.9087

Snoflake.9087

This is correct.

The curve was changed when they introduced the increase to level 500 for weaponsmith, huntsman and artificer. The crafting from 400 to 500 is meant to net you the extra 3 levels, but it’s a horrific price to pay if you’re poor considering the cost of ori, wood and ecto’s.

And there are 8 crafting disciplines by the way, not 5. This will net you 56 levels.

If you had characters old enough, you’d be getting birthday presents. These include a scroll to get you from level 1 to level 20 on use. If you then level each craft to 400, you add 56 to this and you end up only 4 levels from 80. Which isn’t so bad.

Um, no?

I live in Queensland and typically sit around 200ms on a good day and I can get into that shop behind the waterfall every time in World 1. Like unown said, the ‘trick’ (if that’s what it is) is to use the lilypad.

Don’t fall down onto it from high up on the branch as you’ll have that short stun and the pad will disappear and you’ll die to poison damage from the water. Carefully bounce/fall down to the rocks and make your way to the one just to the side of the pad. From there, jump onto the lilypad and then directly into the waterfall. You should take less than half a heart of poison damage before getting in. Even with latency. If you do take damage, smash everything in the shop. You are bound to get food to regen yourself along with the baubles.

If you think this is hard with latency from Australia, try doing the secret room under the forest. It’s the one where you fall through a crack in the ground onto mangrove roots. That last jump, having to bend yourself around the tree root is a killer.

1800 gems for a server transfer? Why!?

Snoflake.9087

If you are going permanently from a low population server to a higher population server, it costs more. And by low pop, it could say ‘high’ and your destination could be ‘very high’. Same deal.

The cost is to discourage server hopping for WvW participants, mainly with the intent of stopping some of the douchiness that goes on. Not to mention wholesale gutting of the WvW population like at the end of 2012 when the Henge of Denravi server went from number 1 to almost dead last when the vast majority of players transferred off after the alliance disintegrated.

As long as you aren’t planning on doing any WvW (which you are locked out of if you guest), as others have said, just temporarily guest over with your friends for now. It’s free.

Precursor Building - theory discussion

Snoflake.9087

I’m thinking of this:
Will it drop or raise the price of existing precursors?
Will the new ones be account bound or tradeable?
If they are tradeable, will the ultimate cost of making one be more or less than the trouble of getting one randomly through other means?

Cost vs time. This one is tricky. The vast majority of people will always take the path of least resistance. If the time and gold (laurels, skill points, ascended mats, whatever) takes forever to accumulate just to be able to create the weapon in the first place, it will mean that most players will still gravitate towards buying it outright. Keeping prices/demand high. Keeping an elite few, who do the grind, very rich in trading the things.

But what if this process is cheap? And, more importantly, easy? In reality, precursors are exactly the same as any other exotic weapon available with the stats you want. If making them becomes as simple as SentinelArk has theorised, then they will be as common as dirt. More expensive dirt for sure, but still common. I’m fine with that.

The time and effort you have to go through to craft them into the legendary should always have been the hard bit, not just getting the base weapon in the first place.

Transmutation Splitter w/ Runes?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Snoflake.9087

Snoflake.9087

Transmuation splitters weren’t technically meant as a bulk wholesale way of getting back your runes without destroying your gear.

I think they were aimed at people who had a real problem with transmuted legendaries applying the new stat mechanics or where you felt you made a mistake when transmuting in the first place that you want to undo.

In those respects, I feel that the high price is justified.

If you are contemplating using them to split high priced superior runes off a high priced exotic items after transmuting them with some lowly blue skin in order to sell both then you deserve to pay the price.

Bad idea to play same armor type with friend?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Snoflake.9087

Snoflake.9087

Hey Reto. Sounds like you’re pretty new to GW2.

All drops (gear or otherwise) are personal. That means what you get is completely separate to what your friend will get. You won’t be rolling on the same stuff like other MMO’s. If you get something that would be more useful for your friend than you, you can trade it to him via the mail system and vice versa.

There is no trinity in this game, no strict tank/dps/healer class. You are ultimately responsible for healing yourself. You can lean towards support play, which is a kind of healer, but you are basically a dps doing less dps but throwing out small aoe heals/buffs at the same time. It’s great for groups, but can be very frustrating when on your own.

With armor, for both warriors and guardians, it comes in one type – heavy. Only the stats on them are different.

This leans back to whether you want to do big damage numbers or want some survivability. You will read about people only going the full Zerker. This is Berserker statted gear. Pretty much your glass cannon, high dps, low survivability stuff. It is best to check the official wiki (link at the top of the page) to read up on which stats might suit your playstyle.

- Empyreal fragments drop from dungeons, mini dungeons, jumping puzzles and camps/towers in WvW
- Globs of Dark Matter are from salvaging exotics

AN have also confirmed that the drop rate is the same regardless of whether you use crude salvage kits or black lion kits or the new salvage-o-matic item. So you don’t have to waste a lot of money on stripping down those blues and greens.

What happen's to my magic find gear?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Snoflake.9087

Snoflake.9087

Came across this excellent condensed post over on Reddit. Creds to hkidnc.

There are 5 things being affected by these changes. Weapons, Armor, Trinkets, Sigils, and Runes.

Weapons, Armor, and Trinkets that had magic find as a stat-line will all become non-useable, and Accountbound. If you have any of those on the trading post, they will be returned to you, and also be made account bound.

At this point, you will be able to double click on the item and select a new stat-line from a list (We don’t know which stat lines are an option) You will then receive that item (in the original rarity, at the original level) With the new stat line. The rune/sigil/jewel/upgrade in the item will remain unaffected. The skin should also remain unaffected. You may then continue to use the item.

There is an exception to this, and that is Celestial gear. Celestial gear will just have Magic Find removed, with no other changes.

Note that an example provided by a developer was that crafted exotics would be able to chose any other crafted stat line. This may suggest that crafted stat lines will be the only ones available, or that your stat-line choices are based on where you obtained the item from.

Sigils and Runes will be receiving a change in the runes/sigils themselves, that should be automatic with no user intervention. Basically, any rune/sigil that previously gave magic find as a stat will now give some other stat/benefit instead. We do not know what those will be, and it will probably be different on a case-by-case basis. Affected Sigils are the Sigil of luck. Affected Runes are Rune of Traveler, Scavenging, Pirate, and Noble. Also affected will be Seal/Medallion/Crest of the Traveler, and all of the various Doubloons.

Magical Infusions (for utility slot ascended amulets) will NOT change.

Items crafted with Small Claws and above will now provide you with a different stat set when crafting. Similarly, all drops of magic find gear will now drop something different that is not Magic Find gear.

All other forms of magic find remain the same as they were before.

You now also will have an account-wide magic find stat (similar/identical to your current account-wide magic find from your achievements) We do not know 100% accurate specifics of how this will work. However, in a very early preview, it was said that you will obtain consumables to increase your Account-wide magic find. These will be a permanent buff to your magic find. Those consumables will come from salvaging blue and green tier gear. The amount of consumables you will need to increase your magic find will go up as your magic find goes up. Meaning that as your magic find reaches a very high number, it could potentially take thousands of blue/green consumables to eek out a measly 1% increase.

We do not know specifics of how common the drops will be, nor how harsh the diminishing returns will be.

Personal experience.

I have loaded a couple of thousand items (rare and exotic) into the forge in sets of 4 over the last year and gotten barely anything worth my time in return.

I decided to use the mass of mystic forge stones I got out of the achieve chests (as they were taking up precious bank space) and three rares in the toilet at a time.

My results were 3 precursors – Storm (Meteorlogicus), Rage (Frenzy) and Rodgort’s Flame (Rodgort) and a result of about 1 exotic for every 4 uses. And out of those exotics, more than half were named.

Fair enough that most of the named ones were rubbish skins that noone wants, but they were still named ones.

If you put in 4 rifles, you will only get a rifle back.

If you put in 3 rifles and another type of weapon, eg a greatsword, you could get any type of weapon in return.

Same goes if you put in 3 rifles and a mystic forge stone. Your return will still be random but you’ll have a higher chance at other named exotics (which includes precursors).

Well, the PvP version is crafted from 1 paid tourney token, 1 arcane sliver, 1 longbow token and 5 arcane powders. The big caveat is that it is dropping on a low rate from a pool of other possible rare bows when crafting the stuff in the PvP mystic forge.

However, there are now reports of it dropping from the gold tourney reward chests as well.

What does this bode for PvE? It is very likely, on the balance of probabilites, that you might just get it randomly by chucking in 4 level 80 rare bows and taking your chances if it has been added to the forge tables. Or you could keep trying to find the actual recipe. It might even drop from champ chests as rewards.

I have all my fingers and toes crossed for this scenario.

Stop Precursor Elitism

in Crafting

Posted by: Snoflake.9087

Snoflake.9087

My take on it is that precursors should have been as common as dirt from day 1. They should never have been special at all.

All legendary weapons start life as a normal lump of wood, metal and leather. It is what its wielder makes it. The journey to converting that pointy bit of common steel into Dawn (for example – I’m after the bows personally) should have what made the weapon legendary in name and legendary in reality.

Yes we should be collecting all that stuff for the gifts and it should be hard or expensive to do, but the edge should be that you should be taking time to do it. This could easily be achieved if you could only suffuse your weapon with the gift at a specific time of the year at a specific location.

Like the Gift of Light can only be infused into your weapon at summer solstice (or some other appropriate lore time) at the Shrine of Melandru after doing a short personal storyline. The ability to do it should be available for a whole week – to give people adequate and varied playtime to achieve it and then that’s it. Tough luck. You have to wait for another 12 months.

Each time you infuse one of the 4 gifts into your weapon, it changes visually and gets a bit stronger.

That way, the acquisition of legendaries could be spaced out instead of people nearly killing themselves grinding 24/7 to get theirs within a month of the game going live and then pricing 99% of people out of the market.

Seems to me that the “new” dailies are just the “old” dailies but now packaged in a slightly different format. I’m still doing 5 events, 15 kill variety, gathering 20 nodes, etc, but now it’s rotational.

Err…so what? As I see it, this new arrangement is designed to teach you about bits of the game that must be lacking amongst some players.

Let’s take dodging. Not enough people are dodging – which is meant to be a core mechanic of the combat. That seems to be a definite thing just looking over the last 16 pages of crying (OMG I HAVE TO DODGE! LAME!). So AN adds it to the dailies. It’s something you should be doing as part of combat anyway.

- For those who don’t dodge – hey look! Its a new thing I am being taught. Neat. I’m taking less damage! This is a good thing.
- For those who do dodge – wow, I’m really mis-timing these aren’t I? Time to improve myself! This is a good thing.

Combo fields (although bugged and now removed), is another part of general combat that needs work. Zergs in PvP/WvW do this automatically at any large skirmish point, but out in the PvE world players seem to be afraid to combo. I have seen people DELIBERATELY MOVE AWAY from the combo fields I lay down for them just doing event bosses like the spider in the orchard in Queensdale. It’s like its poison or cooties or something. This may be a symptom of not understanding what the circle/line infront of you means or not catching the difference between a red line or a white line (tl:dr – red is bad, white is good). Anything that increases your damage is a good thing. You don’t have to group for it at all either – just wander past a DE like Plinx or do one of the dragon zone boss things. With everyone throwing everything they have at it, you’re bound to combo without even noticing… which is EXACTLY what the combat was designed to do.

And as for getting back out into the other zones, doesn’t the “kill 15 different kinds of enemies” do that? It gets you out of the Orr zones where there is very little differentiation in the mob types and has you off seeking a zone or zones that have a better variety of enemies.

Really, it boils down to this:
- Dailies are entirely optional. You don’t have to do it. Period.
- Ascended gear is only useful for fractals and not the rest of the current PvE environment. You don’t need it. The yellow rare gear is more than enough – this is what most PvE mobs are tuned to.
- You will probably acquire a legendary eventually. You don’t need it “omg nao!!!”.
- If your entire reason for existence in this game comes down to playing the trading post, no-one can help you.

You are completely right. It is a game and not a job. If you feel like it’s a job, the door is over there. I shall bake you a delicious cake for your farewell.

Oh, and you want grind? Play Guild Wars. Get Legendary Explorer without the overlay. Hunt down and capture ALL the elites – that takes time, money and experience. Heck, try and get Legendary Lightbringer title. THAT was grind. This is nothing.

I feel totally and utterly betrayed by Anet over this event. I live in Australia and I have a full time job. I managed to log on at 6am for the event and could only play for an hour before having to go to work.

All we did for a full hour was wander around getting totally flattened by that rolling attack – which due to the lag couldn’t be dodged and even with NO lag, couldn’t be dodged because the hit box was bigger than the mob. Either that or have the thing bug out and regain its health on reaching zero.

Seems that, from the disconnects and the lag issues, I got off lightly by signing out to go to work. But now that I read this, to find out that the end chest after the Ancient Karka had precursors in it – after spending hours and hours being borked over by the randomness of the mystic forge trying to get one because the bow is 500g on the TP – just makes me want to cry with dispair.

I think I’m almost done with this game. Even after 7 years of Guild Wars 1.

Please guys, you need to reconsider the timing of events or at least make them instanced – and therefore repeatable by latecomers. You need to make sure that the scripting/programming is not able to be broken so easily and so often. More in game information is needed – we’re not all cryptologists who enjoy blindly stabbing in the dark.

Just please, PLEASE, get it right for Wintersday.

Queue November One Time Event:

OH NO ILL MISS THE ONE TIME EVENT!!

Its probably another brief cinematic, signalling to players that they can now enter the new instance. You wont miss anything, im sure the cinematic can be viewed on utube again only minutes after it happens live.

It’s a one off event chain – not a single cinematic like the Mad King snafu. You should look around some more.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Lost-Shores-Heads-Up

The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there!

Multiple hours just means that it will take place over the span of a few hours, not repeat endlessly. If you miss one of the events, that’s it.

As an Oceanic player, I’m really starting to dislike the whole timing of these one off live events.

I love the game to bits and even took the first week off work to play, but this just beginning to feel like a slap to the face of anyone not in the US. You keep touting that the game is an all inclusive global experience… but when this happens, you’re leaving a big part of the population out in the cold.

In Australia, a lot of us east coasters at 6am on a Monday morning are trying to wrangle kids for school as well as get to work on time. The west coasters are still asleep or are pulling an all-nighter and going to work dangerously sleep deprived.

Please consider putting in a few hours leeway on these events and shift them to Sunday evening (US time). Giving your home country priority just because they all idly log on at lunchtime on Sundays, giving you disproportunate ‘concurrency’ stats, is shameful.

Nice bug while it lasted I suppose.

You can pick up the vast majority of dyes on the trading post for a pittance. All of the common dyes are generally under a silver each. Uncommons aren’t that much more. Even the less popular rare dyes are less than 10 silver each. It’s only the black dyes (midnight ice, midnight fire, abyss) and the white dyes (celestial) that can cost more than a gold with some reds not far behind.

Oh snap!

I’ve never wanted to ditch work and go home to play more in my gaming life. I am having virtual kittens right now and am anxious to see what Martin is sneaking into the patch in a few hours!

ARGH!!

(edit: really? kittening the word “itch”?)

@ Evrilysis

The events achievement you’re talking about seems be counting the door events in the regular non-PvP Labrynth. For every kill-the-Veteran, kill-the-mobs or kill-the-Champion door, it goes up. It’s only a total of 10 events which you can max out very easily by joining a zerg and mindlessly slaying stuff for an hour or so. I don’t think the patch has gone out yet, so you might still have some time left to get it.

The 4/4 Mad King’s Realm needed you to go to the Labrynth, Reapers Rumble, Inquisition and the Dungeon. I am not sure if it counted the Clock Tower waiting room. All I can remember is I visited everything but the dungeon and had 3/4 and after going into the dungeon, I had 4/4.
