Nothing but rubbish greens/blues for me. Best thing I’ve gotten is a single halloween tonic (which is a BLC gem purchase one). I’ve been unlucky enough to not get any rare or exotic drops. Go figure.
Oh Theta honey. You have no idea about the word “completionist” do you. Or what drives us to do it.
You can’t just ‘skip’ it. It absolutely must be done. No matter how many glass desks we shatter or laptops thrown against walls or keyboards smashed on floors in our mad rage.
Black bears are pretty good. Their F2 ability applies a weakness and that can chain quite nicely if you time axe skill #3 just right. It can help kill PvE mobs very quickly. It’s not so useful for PvP though. Bears are just too big a target. Stick with the Raven (or any birds) as they are small, agile and hard to click on.
Been soulbound for ages honey. Ever since the karma cooking exploit went down in the first couple of weeks. AN changed all of the karma ingredients to account/soulbound and canned them being able to be sold to a vendor. Any crafted food cannot be sold to a vendor either. You either eat it, put it on the trading post for a pittance, give it away to your guild or delete it.
To Gaile, Peter, Gus, GM Alura, Taredis and everyone else in the Support Team who helped me on my ticket (and everyone else with the Tome problem).
I just wanted to say a very big thank you to all of you for the response and resolution to my ticket about the Tome of Influence wigging out right back on headstart day one/hour one. I can’t wait to get home from work (6 hours from now >.<’ ) and see if everything goes as planned. I’ll keep you guys updated if it all goes pear shaped.
You guys rock.
TimTams for everyone*!
Note: TimTams are a chocolate covered, cream filled biscuit that can double as a straw whilst drinking tea/coffee. TimTams are unfortunately virtual because Aussie scientists are slack and haven’t invented matter teleporters yet.
Run around the starter zones chasing raw candy corn nodes and haunted doors for Halloween and kill/gather anything else that crosses your path.
Regularly dump all collectibles to your bank on the fly and get the second crummiest salvage kit to break down any white gear you get for more ore/leathers/cloth. Sell everything else (unless it’s an upgrade for you).
You should restock your mats pretty quick. And if not, you’ll have enough cash to buy what you need at that level to progress.
Blue level recipes at your level (or any equivalent level) are rubbish – even crafted stuff. They’re pretty much a stopgap to cover you until you get something better. Make it and then break it (salvage) to get at least something back on your crafting investment (unless you’re strapped for cash, then sell it). You should be aiming to make the green Masterwork gear to wear where possible.
You should also be able to craft the lowest level of yellow Rare gear to wear. Be warned that the recipe for the insignias for those are bought with karma from the trainer. They are also quite material intensive but can give you a stack of levels when crafted. Also, low level rares can be worth a bit on the TP if you don’t want to keep them.
Also as @ItGamer pointed out, once you have crafted the masterwork gear look for an appropriate insignia or rune (or whatevs goes into armor) to put into the upgrade slot. Don’t underestimate chucking something in there, even if it’s not quite what you need. It can make green gear quite strong.
As a sort of rule I stuck to while levelling: blue gear should be pretty useless if you’re 2-3 levels above it. Green will last you a bit longer, say around 5-ish levels. Rare gear can last you 10 or more levels (mind you, this comes from a level 80 Ranger running around with a level 55 amulet that I need to remember to replace >.<).
Is the achievement “Attend the party” obtainable right now or is it part of one of the next acts? If it’s already in…how do you do that?!
I think ‘attend the party’ is the mad king event on the 28th in the central plaza in lions arch. We might not be able to get it until then if this is it.
I think ‘clock tower’ might be a hint. Is there any zone – and probably a lowish zone – that has anything that looks like it could be a clock tower in it?
Level 80s, Haunted Door Campings, Lower-level farming, and problems with level scaling
Posted by: Snoflake.9087
I honestly tried to do doors/corn nodes in the higher level zones for this exact reason, but they are very few and far between. Seriously. I did my sweep of Frostgorge to get some Oric nodes and aside from a short handful of corn nodes, there were zero doors. Maybe because of the high density and large agro range of ordinary mobs and/or events but I just don’t know.
But you are right. There is by far and large a much higher ratio of doors and corn nodes in the lower/starter areas. It is unfortunate that most people will find it easier to go back to these areas to farm.
@Articluna – You are a god walking amongst mere mortals. I bow to your wisdom and might!
I was wondering how to get that pet. I was convinced it was part of the end celebrations like in GW1.
When did rangers break? This is news to me. I’ve been maining a ranger since headstart, have been level 80 for weeks and have 100%’ed the world and am still having fun.
The only problem I’m having is the uselessness of pets as anything other than a temporary meat shield but I can live with that.
You’re mentioning the underpowered nature of some weapons and I might agree with you, but I adapted to that and can still take down a fair bit on my own (including a champion) with nothing but a short bow and an axe/torch.
The SB nerf wasn’t that bad, I’ve hardly noticed any difference at all. Come to Australia, home of the 250ms ping (if you’re lucky). I guarantee that 40ms is nothing.
Underwater? Do you use a speargun? The bleeds I can stack with a shark pet is ridiculous – health just melts off stuff.
Downed skills are the terrific. I’ve killed a veteran from three quarters health in a downed state by getting my pet to keep me alive just by licking me.
I’ve not had an issue with Entangle. It’s my normal elite skill. For what it does I think the cooldown is just about right.
…
But if you’re talking about Rangers from a purely PvP point of view… I can’t help you. What’s to say that the skills aren’t about to have a major divergence and get split into PvE/PvP versions just like GW1. That might fix a lot of problems you’re having from that side.
But for PvE, Rangers are just fine.
Anet have already said that they will be releasing various API’s and allowing some legitimate apps at some time within the next year.
Gaile has said words to the effect that as long as it is something that does not alter the game code or server in any way or gives one player an unfair advantage by way of automating something then it should be ok.
Like the way Texmod worked with the Cartographer overlay for the first game. You didn’t actually need it, it didn’t alter anything and was pretty harmless. I got it after getting grandmaster cartographer to see how well I’d done edgescraping all those maps.
We might see a legitimate ‘app’ overlay in future that might give a general shaded area as to where to find certain cooking ingredients or where certain nodes are likely to spawn in a general way. Or even someone writing an overlay to show you what zones you’ve completed.
Search the forums or look at Gaile’s posts. You are certain to find it.

I draw your attention to the last sentence.
If you think that this site gives an unfair advantage to players (although it’s available to anyone by the look of it), then report it. Stamping your foot like a spoilt child and threatening to take your bat and ball and go home is just that – childish. Be part of the solution!

Guys, the game is only a couple of months old. Chillax!
We’re yet to hit the first major content patch (which I hear is November). Stuff will get added including new armor sets and weapons. Patience.
Story mode AC. First dungeon.
Wow. Just wow.
The first few trash pulls were an eye opener.
However we worked out where to stand, how to pull mobs apart, which mobs to target, the importance of dodging… even if some of the boss kills were done by death zerging.
Thank goodness we were a guild group and using teamspeak.
But we learned it.
This is a link to a post (currently still on page 1 of this sub-forum) that shows you all the different armor sets you can get on a female human model. It has crafted, dropped, cultural (human only), the three Orders and all the dungeon looks. And it also covers light, medium and heavy.
It’s a tad low res, but it certainly set me on the path to the armor I like best (hint: it’s not a dungeon set).
There is a large update rolled into the Halloween patch and another massive update planned for November.
Change is coming. It’s just taking a while.
You know, I had something similar. I was playing in Guild Wars doing some skill capping and trying to get my Hall points up and my guild leader in Guild Wars 2 saw me as online. So he was trying to talk to me. Of course I wasn’t responding as I saw absolutely nothing in chat where I was so he phoned me to make sure I wasn’t hacked.
In the end we worked out that if your accounts are linked, it thinks you are online in GW2 if you are in GW. But with no cross game chat, no-one knew what was going on.
I definitely like your idea. It would be very helpful to a lot of people.
The discovery tab is just that – for discovery. Once you have “discovered” an item, you can no longer make it though that tab. It’s intended as a one-off.
You should have the learned recipe in your known recipes tab. You can make as many as you want from there.
Good luck.

I hate having to be forced to go into WvW to finish my map completion. Didn’t need to do it in the first game. Why do we need to do it in the second? I despise PvP in any form and this does nothing but frustrate me and want to smash my expensive gaming laptop against a wall. I hate myself for having to do it to get the gifts I need for the hope of a legendary someday.
What kicks the kitten (sorry kitty) is that I am on HoD. When we held all the map, for that whole month, you couldn’t get in for love nor money with the 4 hour queues and the constant disconnects (which dropped you out entirely, meaning another couple of hours wait).
Now that the main PvP force has moved on and what’s left of HoD holds barely a quarter of any map, those of us looking for map completion are borked.
It’s the only part of this game that frustrates the kitten out of me.
This is deliberate. You will not benefit from any of the WvW bonuses for the first two weeks after you transfer.
It is meant to discourage server hopping for getting gather node bonuses.
It’s also probably meant to run in conjuction with the original plan of banning you from playing in any WvW match for 2 weeks after you server transfer (which hasn’t been implemented yet).
I’ll see if I can find the post from AN about it.
Edit: Here you go – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bugged-World-Bonuses/first#post418001
If you have been on the server for more than two weekly rounds of WvW, you may be encountering a bug and you should post in the forum above so the devs can do something about it.
(edited by Snoflake.9087)
Getting the same problem. The door is bugged and won’t open. I did as you suggested and jumped up on top to get it to work, but then all the npc’s with me got stuck in side the door skin and when the servants went red, nothing happened and the story wouldn’t advance. Would pay to be a tad careful with the npc’s for this step if using this work around.
Adding my experience here.
Had the same thing. The risen stopped spawning after the first wave at the gates. After reading all the above comments, I realised that I was cutting the corner running to and from the lumber camp. So I ran down the road and didn’t have a problem. And yes, it definitely seems that if you kill all the risen in the first wave before they kill a guard, it stops again.
The problem I’m encountering right now is that this story quest is somehow messing with the stability of my game. At any point during this particular story quest, I will get disconnected, normally with an error 58. There is no rhyme or reason as to why I get dropped, it just happens.
I have absolutely no connection problems until attempting this story quest. Then the constant disconnects start.
I can tell you I’m right kittened off by having to redo the story, sometimes from quite far in. I’m up to about attempt number 14, having tried to finish this for the last two weeks.
Cooking is a pain in the rear due to the patching to stop the money making exploits (finished items selling for vastly more than the ingredients used were worth).
Anything that could be sold to a vendor now has no sell price, limiting you to 4 choices. You either eat it, give it away to guildies, sell it for a pittance on the Trading Post or just flat out delete it.
To be honest, most of it can just be deleted because the stats are incredibly situational and something you’d use only once or twice in a blue moon. My advice is to level your cooking all the way then look at the statted food you are likely to use and delete everything else.
No. Lemons are bought in bulk from a single karma vendor in Gendarran Fields.
I believe they are also on the “loot bag” loot table (apples are in the same boat), but the chance of getting them is incredibly small. Not had one drop yet.
Permanent items (banker at the very least) should have been part of the collectors edition and not the stupid limited/one off versions. Either way, the drop rate out of the chests for the perma version will probably be around 0.01%. Doesn’t mean I won’t keep opening chests, but it’s a disgustingly low blow.
You can get 2? I didn’t know that yields over 1 existed.
Yep. Wait till you get a good WvW gathering buff going later in the week. I have harvested a single raspberry bush 5 times in a row and have gotten between 1 and 3 for each harvest. Those were good days.
The community on HoD was great in betas. It was nice and quiet with no threat of big PvP guilds coming in. Then somehow we got blindsided and ended up on top of the WvW heap and it went down hill. Now all I get, especially in high level areas, is indifference, apathy and a fair bit of being a d-bag. I’m specifically talking about skillpoints and mob griefing.
If I am trying to fight my way to a skill point that has three veterans in front of it, it is not cool to run through the middle of the pack and get the skill commune and then scoot off without swinging a single blow. You are being a d-bag.
I can be fighting a mob or two and suddenly have some random character run over the top of me without stopping. Next thing I know, I’m dead. I can guarantee you that he was running from a string of anywhere between 2-8 unfriendles and by running over a fighting character, he’s just dumped aggro onto you and gotten away scot free. I’ve lost track of how many total and utter d-bags have done this to me.
Aside from this, everyone else is very nice. Thank you to anyone who has ressed me in an out of the way spot. Virtual cookies for everone!
They are on the minimap if you are in range, but I don’t think they’ll ever make it to the main map because it would be too easy to manipulate and exploit. /shakefistathackers
AN might let us do a third party app to add an overlay (like textmod cartographer one) at some stage, but don’t hold your breath.
Yes – 7 is it. You get 1 ‘tab’ given to you and you purchase the other 7 ‘tabs’ for a total of 8. Each is 30 slots. Bought all of them on day 1.
Sandwichmancer Kit sounds awesome.
It actually depends on what you class as top tier end game super foods.
The ingredients that can only be gathered with an orichalcum sickle are Ghost Peppers, Lemongrass, Lotus Roots, Omnomberries, Orrian and Snow Truffles, Saffron Threads and Seaweed. These all require you to be a level 400 Chef to be able to use them.
[Omnomberry Bars] are all the rage because they are 30% magic find and 40% gold find (they all have the obligatory +10 exp)
[Plates of Lemongrass Poultry] give you vitality based on 6% of your toughness plus +200 power when below 50% health
[Bowl of Lotus Stirfry] gives +70 power and 100% chance to gain Might on kill
[Lotus Fries] have 30% MF and +70 condition dmg
[Bowl of Truffle Sautee] is a 5% crit damage increase with 100% Might on Kill thrown in.
And the list goes on (see the wiki). Some of these are pretty good, but won’t float everyone’s boat.
But you did bring a nostalgic tear to my eye with the good old “Sugar Rush”. Maybe we can craft the blue sugary drinks in future?
Ahh… 15k armor… mmm nostalgia.
This armor is for looks only. You want to look cool? Save the money.
The equivalent sets in the first game cost a ton of expensive materials and literally 15,000g per piece of armor (15 platinum). I still don’t have the legs of my Vabbian set because the price of rubies and sapphires is prohibitively expensive (tho I do have an undedicated mini celestial dragon to sell…).
I’m ok with it being expensive as heck. Besides, the Order of Whispers gear looks far better on my character and costs way less.
Has anyone here played the original Guild Wars? Particularly a Dervish?
If you have, then these changes are second nature. If ANet don’t like how something is working, they change it. End of story.
ANet didn’t like how Dervishes were operating, so THEY CHANGED THE WHOLE PROFESSION. Just about ALL the skills got re-worked.
These skill changes are a part of life in Guild Wars. You’d best get used to it.
And yes, I’d just started my guardian prior to these adjustments and yes it sucks to relearn stuff, but I’d rather play a good profession rather than suffer through a broken one.
I have noticed, in trying to level a couple of different crafting professions that there are hundreds upon thousands of orders (and therefore a lot of money) tied up in requesting items that cannot be sold on the trading post due to changes in items to stop exploits or indeed in how the TP operates.
The most noticable was Apples (I was levelling chef at the time). There are heaps of orders for Apples, but these are account bound. They can only be bought with Karma and can’t be traded. You have to go out into Queensdale and get them yourself. And if you are lucky enough to get them drop out of a loot bag, they are still account bound. And yet, there are multiple orders clogging up the TP.
There are also tons of orders for items that can no longer sell for less than their vendor price. Those orders will never be filled, no matter how many of the items are available, due to that restriction. As a broad example: orders for masterwork daggers for 1c when they vendor for 50c. The order will never fill because you can’t post them for less than 50c.
Please purge the trading post of all these ‘useless’ orders as they can never be filled so we can concentrate on the stuff that can sell.
Moonshank, or indeed any pre-cursor exotic for a legendary, is obtained through the Mystic Forge (I’m trying to get The Lover).
In Moonshank’s case, you will need to combine 4, level 71-80 rare or exotic axes in the forge and see what you get. You have a very, very slim chance of Moonshank popping out.
And, just to make it fun, you will need to do this a lot. And by ‘a lot’ – I’ve seen vids of guys combining 100’s of the same item over and over in the forge and not getting the pre-cursor.
RNG is going to make you its little kitten.
Good luck!
Why make orbs moveable in the first place?
Why not change it to a numbers based capture style system (like we already have in game) where X amount of the opposition team need to be within range for X amount of minutes in order to win the orb. Then, instead of being able to pick it up and carry it, it will automatically appear in your keep (or whatever) with maybe an internal cooldown so it can’t be immediately taken back if there is fighting at that point.
Think of the tactics – having an assault force to get the thing and a defense force at the keep to repel retaliation attacks.
Smarter not harder.
Worst idea ever to make it able to be picked up by a player.
I love the pirate general singing a Gilbert and Sullivan song. Classic. Laughed for ages with that one.
No mounts. This is not WoW/AoC/[insert game here].
Yes, waypointing costs a fair bit because it’s somewhat of a gold sink. The problem with that lies in that there isn’t that much cash in the economy yet with people spending what they earn on levelling, crafting and such (I am ignoring the 1% who have hundreds of gold here).
And why are you complaining about the time it takes to move around when not waypointing? Check your utility skills or traited skills. Some of those have passive speed boosts. I do as a ranger – I move 10% faster on a passive signet. Add to that a weapon skill which gives a short speed buff on a reasonably short cooldown (warhorn). I could increase that with an elite which also confers a short term speed buff on a longer cooldown. There is also a speed booster in the BLTC Chests (or off the gem shop). Isn’t there also chef foods that gives a speed buff? Isn’t there also a sigil or something that you can socket onto gear/weapons that can do a speed buff? Do these stack???
Even if they don’t stack, you can move at least 10% faster almost constantly when moving throughout a map.
Please. No mounts. You can travel fast enough if you apply yourself to it.
Well, our guild tag is [PMS]… sooo you can probably understand the craziness we’re rocking:
Probably Has [PMS]
Definitley Has [PMS]
Watch out for [PMS]
Who has [PMS]
My shark: Jaws has [PMS]
Yeah… it’s gettin really silly. We’re having a competition to see who comes up with the best one.
If you have $3k to waste on a graphics render card (unless you work for someone like Pixar or Dreamworks, then hi) that is not remotely optimised for gaming then you can afford a top of the line gaming card.
Get a fully specced out GTX690. Sheesh, get two of them and cross the streams baby!
I’m playing GW2 on full high settings, in 3D (3D DAGNABBIT!) and don’t drop under 60fps.
I am loving the game but there are a few things I’m missing terribly that were in the first game but, for various reasons, don’t appear to have been implemented in this one.
- Red “enemy” dots on the minimap
Gosh I miss this. I loved watching all those red dots wandering around on the map in GW1. I would love to see the concentration of enemies ahead of me shown on the map.
- “Follow” command
I can understand why this isn’t currently in the game (hello botters), but I would love to have a version of follow in GW2. It Makes it a bit hard when I’m in a party of guildies and I suddenly have to go away from my computer. They then have to wait for me to come back. Instead, I’d like to be able to follow on the party leader so they can continue on to the next point while I’m temporarily unavailable. To deter botters from setting up party conga lines, or just grabbing onto the first person to walk past, make it a time limited thing (say 2 mins max and dependent on inactivity) and only useable in party.
- Map completion markers
This has already been brought up in other threads, but I’d like a more reliable way to tell me if 100%’ed a zone rather than having to travel there and open map to check the info on the side. Gold Hoplite helmets FTW!
There are heaps more, but they are definitely in other threads.
Ta
Same thing happened to me. It jumped around very oddly for all of that part but stuff just fell over or the story skipped ahead.
Not complaining. At least it wasn’t blocking me.
They just don’t want you to run out of stuff to do in the first 5-7 weeks of the game so they seem to be artificially gating the content by using diminishing returns.
It’s also technically meant to slow down or reduce botting (and therefore not wrecking up the economy), but we all know the outcome of that.
Given that just about everything is account bound, try levelling an alt or two. You can use their karma, skillpoints and money to buy the stuff you’re after for your main. That includes karma gear, dungeon badge gear, materials, etc.
I have some bridge building mats here somewhere…
As an Aussie, everything ArenaNet does is IN our prime time.
Deep breath and get over it.
I highly suspect that you might have been posting more than three messages in a 15 minute window. 3 LFG posts sure, but what about everything else? Were you completely and utterly silent for the other 14.5 minutes?
If you ONLY posted 3 messages and got silenced by the game, it might be a bug seeing as a big update just went in. It might help to take a deep, calming breath and log a bug report just in case.
However, if you were having a spirited map conversation with someone (or a lot of someones) in between LFG posts, you might have copped it for something else you said or posted.
The name and shame that ANet did a few weeks back certainly showed us that the majority of complainants were not entirely honest…
The problem lies with having to be in WvW in the first place to get 100% PvE map completion in order to get the gifts which are used for the legendary weapons. If we can 100% complete without going into WvW, we would do it. Until then, we’re in a right pickle I’d say.
What sucks the hairy one is that I’m on Henge of Denravi. Have been on Henge of Denravi since the CBTs. What appealed to us (and my guild) was the association with GW and the old lore community and the fact that no blasted WvW guilds were even hinting of going there! Sigh. Now I can’t even get into WvW to even get map completion because, somehow, we’ve ended up on top of the heap because the big WvW guilds pulled a classic switcheroo. :’(
If people wanting to complete the puzzle aren’t active WvW participants, why are they there? They taking a spot away from people that actually want to play.
Because ArenaNet, in their infinite wisdom, decided that to get 100% map completion you have to go into all the WvW zones to get it.
So yes, the queues are “clogged” with PvE-ers who are trying to get the achievement and the associated reward that includes things to make your legendary weapons with.
It also includes people who like to get other achievements like doing all the jumping puzzles.
The way we choose to play the game is different to yours, but no less legitimate.
Until ArenaNet either separate the need to go into WvW zones to complete it, or give us an alternative (of which neither are likely) stop complaining.
The easy fix is to remove blueprints as a chest reward period. Have them rewarded for capturing an objective instead, which makes more sense.
I had no problems downloading or installing the ~140 meg patch on the 18th, however since then, I have been suffering from random disconnects.
Time wise, there is no rhyme or reason as to how long it takes before being kicked. It has been as short as 30 seconds from launching the game, to being able to play for a solid hour before having a run of short kicks again.
It also seems to be more prevalent in WvWvW. I don’t normally play in there, but am forced to in order to get 100% world completion. I can load in to any of the borderlands (or if I’m very lucky, into eternal) but have barely enough time to run away from the spawn before the game kicks us with errors 7 and 58 in rapid succession.
This affects both myself and my husband. We both get the kick at exactly the same time and our error codes are identical. We both play from Australia (east coast) and play on Henge of Denravi.
I am getting two separate error codes. The first starts with a 7:xxx, but this flicks up and is gone very quickly. The second one stays on the screen and is 58:11:5:504:101.
Thanks.

ot exceed 100% (of the current population limit
this is a fairly convoluted solution
let me simplify itregion IP blocks
American players in US servers
EU players in EU servers
Oceanic players in Asian serversits a matter of when, not if.
Not going to happen. You’re forgetting the whole point of WvWvW.
War.
All out, sock-it-to-em, no holds barred war.
War between Guilds, war between Alliances and war between Servers.
War waits for no-one.
War doesn’t stop conveniently at sundown and lets all the combatants go home and have a good night sleep.
War doesn’t give a fig about where you live.
World vs world is a twenty four hour, seven days a week battle – just like real war. That’s the whole point. Anyone anywhere can participate.
You NEED us Oceanics (or anyone who’s not in North America – same goes for the EU).
Seriously, you need us on your server, otherwise who’s going to keep the fight going when you’re asleep?
The real problem is that the server transfers are still free or reasonably easy to obtain. Once that gets locked down, and people can’t server hop at the drop of a hat, then players are going to have to make a lasting choice about where they represent and should knuckle down and start doing the hard yards. Under performing worlds should start doing better too.
I suppose I’m trying to say something really simple – suck it up and play harder and smarter.
Don’t whinge. Don’t cry foul. Don’t scream for change because you aren’t getting your way.
Get better.
