It is a little telling that warrior is now a class where the elite specialization is considerably worse than the core builds. Berserker is incredibly underpowered compared to the other elite builds for other classes. It did need an adjustment:nerf and got one. At that point the build was no longer great but decent. Inexplicably though anet nerfed it again and now it’s close to unplayable against decent competition.

The solution is not to pug raids if you are new to them.

It requires a little effort but there are several guilds recruiting for people forvraifing that will teach you the mechanics and rotations.

You can also form up a static raid group and learn them that way. It requires some dedication and time from each member but is incredibly rewarding when you succeed.

Raids are demanding but reasonable. You may think that the community is toxic to bre players but it’s really not. It’s just hard to pug with new players as many people don’t want to reinvent the wheel every time.

The entire point of raids is that they are intended to be hardcore content. A big reason why the raid team is so efficiency and producing them with high quality is that they only have to design for those interested in that challenge.

If I’m not ready for that, there’s the entire rest of the game for me to play.

So no, raids don’t need difficulty modes; there are players who want them, which is not the same thing.

If we took that logic and said “PoF is going to be a hardcore expansion, intended for the best of the best. If the casuals don’t like it don’t worry there’s tons of other content already in game for them to play!”

Now your expansion fails, people start leaving save the ~5% of “the elite”, profits go down and there’s less resources for you to support new content.

Alarmist? Maybe, but that’s where that train of thought leads. Should someone buy PoF knowing that the raids will be catered to only hardcore players, or will they go to a different MMO where they might be able to raid without as much frustration?

Regardless of whatever opinion you might have, it’s good design and good business to make your content appealing to all members of your player base.

I think you’re missing his point. Raiding is a small part of the guild wars 2 game. Different aspects of the game appeal to different people. There’s pvp, wvw, open world PVE, jumping puzzles, map exploration, crafting, etc. etc.

No developer can make every aspect of the game appeal to every person.

I don’t understand this need or entitlement that people feel about raiding. There are tons of other areas of content to keep one occupied and satisfied. Gw2 is certainly not centered around raiding nor does one have to raid for anything important. It’s a challenging game mode designed for a segment of the population that wanted more challenging content. If it’s not your thing, then there are other game modes designed for you. What’s the problem?

If you’re the kind of person who blows up, screen rants, or rage quits because everyone on your team is a noob but you, then ranked is the place to go. There really is no legitimate argument against raids. It’s an extremely small part of the overall game content. There are several game modes in gw2 from pvp to wvw to PVE that appeal to different groups of players. Raiding is just another game mode that certain players enjoy. A lot of players wanted more challenging end game content and raids were an answer to that.

No players are under any obligation or requirement to raid. There is almost no piece of equipment or meta achievement that requires one to raid. The perks to raiding are almost exclusively for raiding.

Any player in the game can raid. The idea that raiding is limited to a small group of elite players is false. Anyone can start a raid group. My current group is composed almost entirely of players that had NO raid experience just a few months ago.

What is required to raid is simply persistence, patience, and the ability to delay gratification. Too many people simply expect to show up and immediately have access to successful and experienced groups. They expect to jump on lfg and within about 15 seconds have a group that will carry through the raid.

That’s not how it works. It’s not that hard to raid. The difficulty is incredibly overstated, but it does require a little effort and organization in your part. Guild wars is an MMO so you will need to find players to raid with. Not that hard. You may have to start with other beginner players but you will improve. I did. You just can’t expect to beat s raid the first time you try.

Challenging content is supposed to be challenging. If you don’t like to test yourself or prefer to button mash without thinking, it may not be an activity for you. But there is plenty of other parts of the game for players. Why do people feel entitled that s hand must cater to exclusively their needs and their needs alone?

I do have fun raiding as a team. My guild only recently started raiding a few months ago. We took our lumps and bumps and had early struggles, but now we can roll through 3 of the raid bosses and our close to beating our fourth.

While challenging, it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in the game. The satisfaction and sense of accomplishment you get is second to none – especially if you achieve it with a group of your guild mates.

I would hate to see anet reduce the difficulty or team work needed for raiding. That’s half the fun.

Raiding is only a small part of the game and is not required for any other mode. I didn’t raid for the longest time, e.g.

Please don’t ruin this aspect of the game for those of us who put in the time and enjoy it.

Yes but why is the one team always stacked? It’s not like there is an even distribution among the 2 teams. The legend/plat players could be placed evenly.

Numbers does play a huge role. But organization is just as important. I’ve seen guild groups easily trash larger zergs of pugs. There certainly are tactics and strategy to large scale battles.

I disagree with both of your points. No one likes to lose in pvp. That’s why you have such toxicity whenever a game goes south. I’d like to think that the prestige of a rank or the thrill of winning motivates players enough.

As for not allowing people to play ranked until a certain number of matches, I don’t agree. A better solution is to have PROPER MATCHMAKING so that these beginner players are matched appropriately. Pvp needs a higher population not less.

A friend that played with me saw me win a couple 1v2/3’s in WvW and decided warrior must be op. I gave him my exact build and general combos and he was not having fun. Mentioned how clunky, easy to dodge, and slow it felt. Kept trying it for a couple days and switched off of it, mentioning he had a much larger appreciation for it.

If you are god awful at reading opponents, a good warrior will and should wreck you.

Anyone worth their salt has no issue making me work for every single CC way harder than the crazy gap closing teleports and disengage and mini tells other classes have.

Warrior has not been good in PvP at higher levels in a quite a while now, not with core, not with berserker…. and now Berserker is especially horrible.

I don’t know why ArenaNet would nerf something like this, because they didn’t properly explain. In my opinion, there really isn’t a good reason. Maybe Adrenal and Ire were over tuned, but to say they were 66% over tuned for berserker is kittening kittened.

It’s a shame that berserker was gutted. I can understand the nerf to endure pain, but the adrenal healing nerf just killed any sustain. Plus it cheats you out of 2 bars as you need a full 3 to get into zerker mode but only get credit for one on healing. Add that to the fact that adrenal skills are incredibly slow and telegraphed and the build is basically dead.

It’s funny how other players say that now it will require skill and talent to play warrior and that these nerfs were needed, but yet they play classes with tons of passive boons or low risk and high yield skills.

I don’t know if they are unbalanced. You probably just have a higher level of play. Teams are no longer unorganized groups of people with no comms. Rather they are premade teams of 5 players likely with comms and strategy. Lone wolf carrying tactics don’t work as well.

Yeah after getting nerfed in the last patch, warrior was already in the less used and desirable classes. But I guess some people still tougher it out and played it. So hopefully with this nerf, they will completely destroy the utility of the class and prevent more people from playing it.

I don’t understand what some people want. Raids were provided because players wanted challenging end game content. Of course they are going to be difficult to complete – it requires organization, coordination, practice and skill.

There is plenty of other game content that caters to players who are not interested in that kind of a grind.

If you are interested in raiding, there are tons of opportunities to learn or work with raiding guilds. There are several guilds that recruit and train new players. But it requires effort on your part.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to just press 1 repeatedly or roll your face across a keyboard to succeed, there’s content for that too.

But it’s not fair or reasonable to demand that raids be dumbed down to a level where any player can complete them. That defeats the point of challenging content.

I disagree with pretty much all your points.

You can form up with a group of guildies or friends and raid with whatever build you desire. Some builds are more effective for some encounters but you don’t have to do max dps to beat a boss. Lots of bosses have been beaten with far less than 10 players so there is a significant amount of give.

Secondly just because one particular armor set is not as valuable isn’t a reason to shun raiding. Try new things and new styles. You can still run a fairly Tammy build, not sure why you have to have nomads or bust.

Third, I’m not a fan of participation trophies. Some games reward accomplishment and skill, not just showing up. You are not entitled to every new shiny or achievement in the game. I’d like to get some of those pvp titles and AP for being in the top 10 of a season, but chances are I never will. That’s ok.
Legendary armor is not required for anything in the game. It’s a nice reward for players who can raid just like other game modes have their perks. Yes it’s high hanging fruit, but that’s what makes it so much better.

I had a run of bad luck during placement matches this season. Normally start aroundgold 3 to 3 but started at silver 2. Was able to climb up to gold 2 in solo q.

Advice is this. There are some matches you can’t win. Just accept that. There are also some matches you will just cruise through. But there are a few where it comes down to exactly how well you play. Win those and you will advance.

I’ve also noted the game is incredibly streaky. I’ve had win streaks of 6, 7, and 12 games. Also had a lose streak of 7 games. During all of those I played same build and same competency. No way it was just random luck. Matchmaking does seem to favor one team each match. Best thing to do is keep playing when you’re on a roll and stop and wait a day if you start losing.

It is silly that this is still an issue. Had a ranger knock me into a pillar in coliseum. He went lol. Our team was up 150, I typed stuck but by time I came back match was even. Not illegal but incredibly unsporting. Wish anet would act on this.

I don’t like the outnumbered bonus. I’d rather reward players that are contributing more significantly to their servers success. It seems silly that you can get a bigger bonus for sitting on an outnumbered map and capping the occasional unmanned camp orvsentry as opposed to fighting on a contested map. People can hold keeps or towers, cap hotly contested points, etc. yet the game values this less. Rewards bad play styles

You can complete pretty much all encounters with 50% of the dps of a highly skilled group, that’s how forgiving the bosses are. Mechanics wise there are some punishing ones and some not so punishing, but it’s not like they require a degree in rocket science to learn.

Completely agree. Way too much focus on dps. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important and makes raids easier but I’d take mastery of the mechanics of the raid over extra dps. What causes most raids to fail isn’t lack of dps but failing or performing badly at some specific mechanic.

Actually funny story about ascended shards of glory. They used to be incredibly valuable so that you could buy ascended armor directly with them. Anet realized this was a little too easy but instead of making them harder to obtain they retroactively nerfed the value of them. Screwing over tons of people that had already earned it not spent them. I highly doubt they would ever retroactively reward you anything.

The main thing i hate about thieves is that they can run away so easily when you beat them. When, I encounter them roaming in wvw, they come in and try to burst me down. Often, I’ll be able to counter that and start beating them down. Then they’ll stealth and run away. Then they’ll come back and we’ll repeat this same process over and over again. Occasionally, you can get lucky and burst them down or stack condis on them so they get downed, but not to the good ones.

I just wish they had a bigger penalty from losing an engagement other than being able to stealth, reset, and try again.

Honestly it completely depends on what skill level you are and what opponents you’re facing. Some of the advice you’re getting applies more to the higher end of pvp. These may be good 1v1 classes but they have a high skill ceiling.

For instance, I’ve been playing warrior this season and have found no problem winning most of my 1v1’s. But I’ve only been playing against gold level opponents. Once or if I get higher level opposition I’m sure that the build will start to be a disadvantage.

BandwagonGate… err BlackGate has destroyed any chance of competition in WvW. And it’s all ANET’s fault for being incredibly blind to the obvious.

No point in doing tournaments as long as the devs keep screwing up and opening up Blackgate to transfers. Years of this stupidity has created a server that is lopsided with WvW only players.

ANET doesn’t know how to truly balance a game and continues to be used by the players who gamed the system into oblivion. ANET’s clueless choices have painted themselves into a corner where the only solution is to break up BandwagonGate.

WvW has no competitive scene anymore. And hasn’t for years.

Honestly, i blame the community more than Anet for that. People want to win more than they want good competition. You could give the 2 best wvw guilds a choice.

1) You can be on different servers. You’ll be matched up and forced to play your best. Winning is not guaranteed, but the competition will be fun, balanced, and exciting. OR :
2) You can join forces and curb stomp pretty much every other server.

Chances are most guilds would pick option 2.

But that’s human nature. Look at the NBA and the superteams there. And I guarantee if the pvp season allowed teams of 5, you would have the top 5 ranked guys on one team.

Totally disagree with you on the team aspect. We have solo queue.

Tournaments should be teams. There is no game mode other than unranked that lets you team up with people. Guild wars 1 had both team and solo queues and that worked well.

You can’t expect to do well in a tournament if you join up with 4 random pugs and face off against organized teams. But who’s fault is that? The PVP season is designed for single players. Let organized teams have tournaments. That way both sides get a game mode they enjoy.

Not a big fan of wvw tournaments because they seem to reward server stacking and anticompetitive practices. It would be one thing if each server had similar numbers and quality players/guilds but they don’t. People like to win and all the big guilds have gravitated to a handful of servers. Ranking #1 is fairly meaningless when 90% of your competition has no chance and a fraction of your strength.

It’s hilarious seeing people blame “casuals” for pvp being ruined. “Casuals” are just here for the loot. Can you blame them? That’s all we ever offered them. They’re here because of rewards and dailies, that’s it. They’re not ruining pvp.

If anything killed pvp, it’s the “hardcores” and tryhards in these forums that tried to push this “competitive” scene down everyones’ throats. They’re still doing it. Even as esports has kicked the bucket. Instead of “How can we make this game more fun to play?” it’s “How can we make this game more competitive?”

I agree. If anything more people playing is always a good thing. The problem isn’t that there are beginners, it’s matchmaking. These players should be going up against similarly skilled people, not being placed on teams with more seasoned players.

I got kittened when they retroactively nerfed the rewards 2 seasons ago so I sat out last season.

Been playing this one but I suspect at some point, someone will whine that pvp awards are too high. They will then nerf the grandmaster mark chests so you need to create a grandmaster key to open them which requires 98% of the materials to craft the mark. Of course they will give a 5 day notice again so at least 15% of the community can take action before.

wish i could counter the 11 stacks of burn with a dodge when a gua applied them

some classes clear condi on dodge roll. as a warrior i can remove those burn stacks by weapon swapping, so easy counter.

otherwise just dodge roll the attacks that apply the burns. its not ultra hard dude.

condi just seems hard to fight because you havnt learnt any tells & you never learnt to manage condi. i was once like you, but i spent a lot of time on 1v1 arenas & wvw fighting condi builds so i know how to do it. 1v1s with feedback make a huge difference.

As a solo roamer to small group havoc. Currently small scale WvW belongs to the condi thugs me. On my Condi Chrono or Reaper. Players would have to be 2 to 3 times more skilled and better then me to win. Other then that I kills them because condis are completely balanced.

Nope I’m not going back to power in small scale till things change. Dire, and Trailblazer too good to pass up atm. Condition damage builds are too good to pass up atm. Hell I’m even starting to see Condi Eles, like wtf? Lol

Have been doing raids with my main guild for last several months. Lots of fun but we don’t always have a full team and I would like to raid more frequently.

Have done VG and Gorseval consistently and know the mechanics of sabetha. I can run ele dps or auramancer healer. Also have Druid healer and thief staff dos in ascendeds.

Working on gearing up a ps warrior as well and condo Druid build.
