Charr and Asura female precursor armor

I can’t say I’m overly happy with completely changing it to match the male models without reworking the female ones. It basically means we’ve lost a set of options and this legendary armour is going to have less of a distinction between the two than gem store skins. There should be a difference between the two, it’s just that the current difference is so anatomically incorrect it was blatant you just resized the Human female’s version. I can’t really be happy about no rework and just losing a set of options as our ‘best’ option. It just… really screams to me that you’d rather not bother salvaging a mistake and instead would just rather scrap the mistake. Seems like a big waste of resources and a loss of options for the players.

Also, seriously… Asura ears exist. Please stop stuffing them inside helmets they can’t physically fit into and let them pop out the side like they do with the Tier 3 cultural heavy.

X2 on this – and also Asura Toes. Its lame how on some sets they just kinda disappear, while on the other ones they clip out.

In any case take what you can get, its sad that we can’t have proper cultural armor, but its better than boob cups.

Yes please. It looks absolutely terrible on Charr and Asura. I don´t mind more feminine armors on both of them, but boob cups are a step way, wayyyy too far.

Also, as a personal plea, please take Asura Toes, ears, and Charr Tails and horns a bit more seriously. It`s silly that some outfits have perfect molds for both of those things, yet LEGENDARY armor precursor clips all over the place.

Thanks.

Unless this is an oversight (which I really doubt), I think this, and the new addition of account bound weapons, is meant to drive more people to spend money on gems – taking away one of the best money farms in the game.

This being a stealth nerf is really low. Well, whatever you do Anet, I am not spending any money on your game now – shady practices like this alienate your customers more than anything.

[Spoilers] Story quality way too low

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sousuke.7268

Going into heart of thorns, story was my most anticipated feature. Unfortunately however, release proved it to be the most underwhelming. The story was too short and rushed; characters had meaningless deaths that did little to nothing to further the plot; and was filled with unexplained entrances, departures, and non-existent struggles that completely skipped over the promised lore.

Living Story Season 2 had only 8 chapters, but each chapter had roughly 4 instances, whereas the expansion had 16 chapters with only one instance per chapter, making LS S2(the prologue) over twice the size of HoT(which was to be the main story). And when the prologue is longer than the core story it’s leading up to, there’s a BIG problem. But not only that, the story felt rushed, if not for the mastery gating -no, even with- it could be completed in one day within a few hours. Rebuilding the pacts forces, forging alliances, pushing forward into dragon territory, facing setbacks, formulating a plan; it was all either rushed over or left out completely. We go from the pact all but being annihilated with no dragon weakness apparent, to strolling into the dragons place with no plan, to miraculously discovering how to defeat him in the last second. And then… nothing… no victory party, no funeral for Eir and Trahearn, no closing what-so-ever.

In a good story, characters should die to advance the plot, everything in a story is a building block, the characters influence the story’s development, and the story influences the characters development. Everything must happen for a reason, or it leaves the story stagnant and comes off as cheap and pointless… like Eir’s death. For what purpose did she die, how did her death change or impact the outcome of the story? It didn’t… she just… died. “Moving on.”

Advertised to have deep racial themes and subplot and noted numerous times to intensely explore the conflict between Sylvari, nightmare court, and Mordrem; in truth, it barely scratched the surface. Placing Faolin and killing her off in the same instance, and then bringing her back as Mordrem in the next -with little dialogue to show her intentions or purpose for even being there in the first place- in no way explored the tension that ANet promised to be present. In two instances what was stated to be explored deeply, was all but skipped over.

In conclusion, LS season 2 was a much deeper/longer/and more interesting story than the expansion…. and yet we got LS S2 for free, and paid $50 for the expansion… granted, I realize there was more to the expansion than story, but really??? Previous GW expansions -the Canthan and Elonian campaigns- were just as long as the core prophecy’s campaign; and GW2, which promises advancement in the realm of MMORPG, should at least be capable of giving us that much. I had sincerely believed their standard was rising for the better, but this isn’t progress… I liked the expansion, but they really dropped the ball on story.

+1 on all of this. Quoting this post because it needs to be seen.

I am really dissapointed it all ended so rushed.

The story was very rushed. I loved the attention to detail, and the ideas behind everything, it was just never really explored. At all.

The Zhaitan storyline was really rudamentary and rushed as well, but not to this extent. There I actually felt like exploring orr, and advancing my way trough his champion, weakening him and slowly getting to the conclusion. Not so much here. As other pointed out, story pacing was great up until the weakness part. After that it just drops the ball.

They should have made some of the meta events into singleplayer instances, so that we have an actual buildup – so that we feel like we are slowly making our way to Mordremorth, and regrouping the pact.
All of the meta events are so amazingly great, with a LOT of story stuff in them. The dialouge heavy nature is easy to miss in zergs.
Also, too bad the servers constantly crash, and you can’t do them when you want – usually end up in a bad overflow, or having to wait ages.

The great ideas and production value can’t save it from being way, wayyyy too rushed. We are never given an oportunity to actually sink our teeth into the lore.

I seriously hope they overhaul parts of this story, because it seems to me like verything needed to make it great is already there – just never fully used. And here’s to hoping LS3 is amazing as well.

TL;DR, the pacing drops the ball after the weakness mission, and the story rushes way too fast forward. It would benefit from some meta events being remade to be story instances too.

Kotaku is now reporting that Anet is planning to change in response to the outcry:

http://kotaku.com/guild-wars-2-players-angry-over-currency-exchange-chang-1649519173

Update: ArenaNet has responded with plans to update the Currency Exchange so players can use it as they wish. They offered the following statement:

“It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.

In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.

We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!"

Haha, and they would have gotten away with it too, if it was not for us pesky “veteran” players, or, up until recently the “vocal minority”.

What a load….

Well at least they are reverting it, but they have still lost me as a paying customer. I hope this little antic hurts them and they finally start taking their playerbase with a bit more respect.

I’ve been following the situation since the patch yesterday.

This is more then insulting, anet. First you treat your community with disrespect (vocal minority comments became the laughing stock of the internet for a bit), and now you treat us like idiots who can’t do basic math, and on top of that insult us with snarky comments. Enough is enough. Suggestions on how to “fix” it? Stop humoring us.

I am a GW1 player. I was with GW2 since the betas. I preordered the game. Before S1 of the living story, I used to regularly buy gems here and there, and I believed in the direction the game was taking. However, S1 made me change my tune – I did not want to spend my real money on the gem store, because the updates at the time were, in my humble opinion, were extremely lacking. Tiny tidbits of content, and the Scarlet story line felt incredibly tacked on. I felt, that if I simply “voted” with my wallet, others would too, and that would let Anet know that the LS, at that time, was not really all that good.
Time passed, a year even, I was starting to loose hope in any proper content – but then they actually ended S1 on a great note and S2 began. Great stuff, characters, finally a new dragon! I loved it. It was not everything I wanted, but hey, its a good start. Replayable story, new area…finally, its here! After 2 years GW2 is back on track! I’ve made my first ingame gem purchase in over a year because I saw the light on the end of the tunnel. And then the latest “feature” patch came. And the dev “interviews”. And now this. This is the final red flag for me. Fool me once…

ArenaNet, say goodbye to my money. Permanently. You have played me, and you have played others. I don’t care how good the game gets, or if you revert these changes. You have lost me as a customer. Some actions speak volumes. This does not mean that I will quit the game, however, as I still enjoy it for what it is, heck I love it, and that’s why I’m writing this. But I will not support these kinds of sleazy business practices.

It’s a sad affair to see a game with SO MUCH POTENTIAL driven into the ground by greedy corporate policies, developer ego, and nonsensical changes. If you, anet, just stooped for a moment and remembered what actually made GW2 the success it initially was, and still is, maybe you could still turn this around – but I seriously doubt it. I’ve seen this happen to way too many good game franchises already to be an optimist about it.

Enjoy your “quick buck”.

The “revamped” trait system and level-gating of basic features were all problems that people widely complained about in the Chinese release of this game. Why are they being back-ported to North American and European releases under the guise of “new features”?

Because someone was completely disconnected from their community for a long while. I feel sorry for the PR people, these latest changes are going to generate a lot of angry comments. Hell, people are negative about this even on facebook! That is a rare sight.

The trait system had nothing to do with China and everything to do with people who wanted to hunt for skills, like in GW1. Well they got what they wanted and now they are complaining about it.

A badly implemented feature does not mean that the core idea is bad. Far from it. This would be relatively easy to fix, should they allocate some resources to it.

None of these changes sound like improvements. They sound like they are taking away some of the unique elements that made GW2 BETTER than the competition. Let’s just agree that the devs messed this one up and remove it from the September patch before anyone gets hurt.

Seriously, limiting story steps to levels is one of the dumber things I can imagine to “streamline” the experience. Should have just stuck with level rewards as far as the “features” go.

Same thing goes to weapon skills. WTH?

Believe it or not, people are not stupid. If they see that something is too hard for them, they will either get help, or level up a bit before trying again.

If you read my initial post you will see that I have actually mentioned injectors.

Problem with injectors is that they are simply what the name suggest – graphic effect injectors. You can add certain neat little effects OVER an existing image. It may used to add some decent AA into the game, true, but besides that and a few post process filters, it really does not do all that much in regards to the things I’ve listed.

I never claimed that it would be easy to do, or possible – its just something that I, and a bunch of my friends playing the game would like to see – glad to see that you like my suggestions as well

Having worked in the industry and having experience with engines from modding, most of them handle each option separately. I am almost certain that post processing can be split. The same applies for particle effects (as a system is already there), and the camera – but I am not so sure about distance fog, as that could be something unique to every map, and the anti aliasing options, as they could be tied to the renderer. In any case, w/o going into detail – these are just suggestions and nothing more. It would be amazing if a developer came in and pitched in what is possible and what not, and why

I’ll cut right to the chase, it would be amazing and extremely useful if we could get advanced graphics options for the game. Not only would it help gamers get the most out of their FPS, but also it would cater to a bunch of us who prefer to customize the look of the game further.

My suggestions:

- View distance slider - The fog is eating up the beautiful world you guys crafted. Let us see just how far that beauty stretches! Say no to air pollution!

- Separate post processing options (Sun rays, bloom, ambient lighting etc.) – It really sucks that these options are locked behind presets. I hate bloom and color correction, but love sun rays for instance. Let us select what we like the best.

- Particle effects slider - the current system is not working so well, but this might change soon with the feature pack, still, listed.

- More anti aliasing options - I don’t like edgies, but I don’t like my game looking blurry and washed out either. If injectors can do it, so can you anet.

- Advanced camera settings - Already listed in the camera thread, but posting them here as it would be great to have them as well: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-player-camera-improvements/first#post4340639

Now I am not saying that you have to change the current settings if you are afraid that non tech savvy people might get confused. Just give us a separate window like most games do, that we can access from an “Advanced options” button in the options menu.

Bonus suggestion: High resolution (2-4k) character and weapon textures as an optional download. It would be amazing if you guys did not purge them after compressing them to “game rez”. Some people would love this, I am among them. Not necessarily on topic, but just trowing it out there.

Alright just trying to get all of these thoughts into a single concise list. (Please note this does not mean that any of these things will happen)

  • First person camera
  • Increase max dolly (camera distance) distance
  • Decrease min dolly distance
  • More finite dolly control
  • Automatic camera height adjustment on /sleep emote
  • Manual camera height adjustment
  • Stop ‘random snapping’ from happening
  • Look at camera
  • Free orientation movement
  • Fix automatic camera height so that the over the shoulder camera works as it would be expected to work
  • Manual FoV adjustment

Please let me know if there is anything else I’m missing.

To me this seems right! Thank you for your time and replies

I would be perfectly happy if we got a simple vertical/horisontal position slider for the camera, the ability to zoom closer to see our character in their glorious detail, and after that first person. No need for hands or anything, just the same thing gw1 had.

An FOV slider would help in this reguard a whole lot.

Implementing these features would please most, if not all people regarding camera issues.

Seriously, some of you people need to grow up. All this outrage over a homosexual relationship, and a kiss, is totally uncalled for. Are we in the dark ages?
How dares a story in a game represent developed characters of the same sex that hold affection toward each other! Even worse, how dares one person kiss the other in relief after finding out they are not dead? Unbelievable I say! Gather the mob, prepare the dunking stool! (Yes, that was sarcasm if it didn’t register).

Also, a kiss = sex? Really? I am sorry but that is totally out of line. The kiss scene in question had no sexual innuendos whatsoever. No fondling, no tongue play, no nothing. It was a genuine kiss of relief. Anyone saying it was sexual in any way clearly has no idea of what a “sexual” kiss looks like.

If a kiss bothers you so much, please, by all means, stop watching television, reading books, browsing the internet, playing games, and even going out of your room. That way you are safe from that blasphemous act.

One more thing, what’s with all the Kasmeer whitewash? Why are some of you people trying to force your own views of how she should act based on whats a stereotype and what is not? We are all different, and some people do infact act like her. I know a person in real life who is extremely similar to her. There are many ways of being “strong”. To me, she comes across as a brave character that is trying her best to be the most she can be, while remaining faithful to who she is – and that is a truly admirable trait, one that most people in real life lack. By all means, debate her character on these boards, that’s what they are for – but trying to force your own views down everyone’s throats of how “females should act” or how “she should be” is simply bigotry on your parts. Be above the pettiness.

The simple fact that mods have not locked this hatefilled charade of homophobia is disturbing to say the least.

Disabling backpack view for all characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sousuke.7268

Sousuke.7268

While I agree many of the back items are distracting and would not mind an option to disable them, I don’t see it ever happening. The main issue is for almost everything in the game, someone will not like it and not want to see it. Auras, legendary effects, spell particle effects, glowing flame armor, minis, the list just goes on and on. At what point would you stop, and who’s opinion would count the most on what would and would not be seen?

A valid point – but here are my 2 cents about that debate:

A backpack item is a simple accessory – not a whole armor set, or a character, or part of a legendary weapon that’s hard to get. Imho, comparable to instruments – and it would not break anything for anyone – as I said before, only those people who find them annoying (and don’t care about them in the first place) would disable them.

Also, particle effects are a whole other story – while I have my gripe with this game lacking proper optimization and particle culling options, it is not part of this debate or suggestion.

What about toggling off enemies? I think it’s immersion breaking that there are enemies running around everywhere.
They are also in the way when I’m trying to explore and do jumping puzzles.

On a serious note, no. You should view the other people as they have chosen to be viewed. There is no point in any unique armor or weapons otherwise.

Edit: If your immersion gets broken by something that is in the game, then that’s your problem. It’s in the world, it’s canon, deal with it. If we go to a space station and it breaks your immersion, pity, it’s part of the game.

I’m sorry, but “unique” is such a strong word when everyone and their grandma has an item of similar description. And besides, it would be a simple toggle option that does not affect you, the owner of said item/s, and those who find them cool, in any way whatsoever. Why would that bother you in such a case? It simply does not matter.

Its annoying to me, and apparently to some other people as well (judging by some of the replies here). So we want a way to hide it. Simple as that.

Also, people, please stop trying to derail the thread with silly and over the top suggestions like “remove Charr and Norn and Trees from the game” or similar. If you agree with the idea, say that you do and why, if you don’t agree – try to be constructive about it at least. Being sarcastic leads to nothing but pointless arguments.

Well then you might as well add an option to disable entire character models as well, because a Norn or Charr with no backpack at all is more distracting to me than the wing backpacks. Or people with Legendary GSs swinging them around, the trails distract me.

What I think should take more priority would be allowing backpacks to be seen in the Character Select screen. Why the heck is that not allowed? Sometimes I like to admire my handiwork, and that includes backpack choice as well!

Disabling a whole race is seriously immersion and game breaking, and its taking it way too far. Plus, implementing something like that would be a huge and pointless effort.

Most of those “huge” backpacks are immersion breaking (For me at least), and disabling them on my client would not affect people who wear them in any shape or form, nor would the lore of the game suffer without them in any way.

And please, no gemstore items. Something as rudimentary as a toggle should NOT be in the game store.

Thank god, I thought I was the only one utterly tired of the Marj/Kas “relationship”. They both aggravate and bore me. I’m a pansexual female, so it has nothing to do with me being “uncomfortable”, believe me. It’s amazingly ham-handed the way they shoehorn lesbianism into every. Single. Conversation. I get it, ok? They really like each other. It could be two dudes or a man and a woman instead of two women, I’d be just as annoyed by the constant talk of their own relationship. It’s ESPECIALLY annoying (and somewhat degrading) to constantly shove in out of place sexy references to being constantly naked and the like. Again, this would aggravate me no matter who the people involved were.

To be completely honest, this is how most couples act like when they first start dating. There is nothing weird or “out of place” here. They’re acting like lovestruck puppies and that’s normal. And trust me when I say, it’s much less “annoying” (to me it’s not, I want more of it ) then real life couples who act like this, even more so. Or that couple you see making out in public transport. Or that couple you see kissing in the middle of the street. Now that is something that can make you feel uncomfortable, even if you’re in a relationship yourself.

I say it’s handled well. And there is nothing wrong in liking it. Can’t argue with that. If you dislike it, then turn away from it. It doesn’t affect you in any way.

I doubt they’ll kill either one. That would be counter-intuitive to their poorly disguised agenda. It’s so palpably obvious they went out of their way to include such to promote their tiresome “everyone’s included, we’re so progressive” tagline, rather than allowing legitimate progression of the story (not borne of forcing ideology).

It detracts from the game in that time was directed to it, it is insincere and artificial, and is at best fan-service for certain demographics, and at worst, propaganda.

We can conclude that since the promotion of such relationships is so common within the game, there must be a purpose. It doesn’t reflect the demographics of reality, so it can’t be to appeal to the player. The sheer number suggests that their inclusion didn’t just “spring to mind” in story development, but that the writers intentionally went out of their way to incorporate it. Furthermore, its presence doesn’t achieve and isn’t able to convey anything not present within a hetero relationship; though I feel as if where they are encountered, there’s no need to mention either type of relationship. As such, the only logical conclusion is that it’s to force an unsolicited opinion regarding real-life through bombarding the player with the inclusion of this artificial writing.

At least Professor (Al) Gorr trying to reduce magic “emissions” didn’t feel forced, and instead made more cared for, subtle references to the issue. It complemented GW2 lore and was more of a joke, rather than being a proselytising aside.

My god I’m downright terrified to think what would happen if Anet put a male homosexual relationship there. Actually there is, in Sylvari storyline, and nobody seemed to kitten about that one, even though the 1 guy implied “he loves me” or something. Terrifying agenda!

The amount of hate, bashing, wrong statistics being made up, and downright over analyzing, and blowing these 2 freaking NPC-s out of proportion is truly mind-boggling.

It’s not like Anet didn’t write a whole essay a few pages back trying to educate you about this matter. Everyone I know in game is totally cool with this, and we wouldn’t have this pointless thread about agendas and “political correctness” if it were a hetero couple.

Seems only the forum people, aka the miniscule amount of player-base are the ones who whine the loudest and those opinions should NOT be taken as a collective voice of community who wishes one of them dies, or worse, that such things shouldn’t be in game because of reasons my mind cannot understand.

It’s so freaking sad Anet has to read all this kitten.

I have to agree. Playing with a Charr can really get annoying, especially if there is a tight corner involved. The camera starts jumping all over the place,. silly.

+1 for first person view. That would certainly make things easier.

I cant play with my friends from the US? Whats the point then, seriously.

This is so disappointing I can’t even begin to express it. I was waiting to play with my US buddies since launch and this is what we get? Nice way to hide your intentions, if this was clearly stated before launch, it wouldn’t be such an issue – but now? Seriously, I feel swindled.

Super lame. I hope that they change this.

New areas and world completion

I think it will be based on what that area “needs” to be. If the general idea is an Orr like place, high lvl, with only events and awesome loot – then there will be no hearts etc.

If its meant to be explorable, then yes.

Then can always add a new tier for world exploration, I don’t think that those who achieved 100% would mind.

The thing you’re failing to realize is for every person who hates this, there’s a person who loves it.

I do believe this thread is a clear indication that the numbers tip towards the “we hate this” demographic.

I already said what I was going to say about this move, now I’m just gonna sit back and wait.

No Anet, just no.

There is absolutely NO need for a new gear tier. I refuse to grind for this bullkitten just so I can have max stat gear. This is not what Guild Wars was supposed to be.

Just give us more unique skins and everyone will be happy.

Nobodies making you do anything for slightly better equipment.

Yes, they are. Read a little before replying about something you have no idea about.

Since they clearly stated that those items are dungeon exclusive, its only logical to assume that I will have to grind that dungeon n times to collect a full set of “uber” gear.

This is kitten and unnecessary. Guild Wars 1 proves this.

They have just aimed their gun at their own foot. If the patch rolls out with this “slight” change, they will also pull the trigger. One loyal customer less (I spent a lot of money on both of their games), and I’m sure I wont be the only one.

Lol. Sticks and stones buddy, I finished it with a Norn and a Human, and there were three other Charr beside me.

So yeah, if other players are obstructing you, you are not fast enough.

Sever Crash Thread [Merged]

Didn’t crash, but it wouldn’t let me into the dungeon (click join and nothing happens), so I decided to relog, and now I can’t log back in…

I hope this thing lasts at least an hour, I don’t want to miss anything out because of a server overload.

Too much emphasis on jumping puzzles?

I loved the clock tower. It took me about 1:30~2:00 hrs to complete it (mainly due to interruptions). Timing and a bit of luck is all you need. And I even play with a Charr! :P

I say keep these kinds of events, and make more! Its a really interesting addition, and it brakes the standard “kill/fetch/collect” types of tasks. Maybe make them not necessary for the title, or make several titles so that players that can’t complete it don’t feel left out.

And btw, that exotic is nothing special, you can earn better boots by running Ascalonian Catacombs three times.

Why I am not enticed to buy costumes in GW2, but had ALL of them in GW1

x2 on this whole thread. The whole “one use only” and no dedicated npc/bank slot for these things really rubs me the wrong way.

Why can't we have costume makers?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Sousuke.7268

The costume system in GW1 was amazingly well thought out. I believe this suggestion was also made already – I really hope they listen and change this.

I am also among those who purchased a few costumes in GW1 (4 in total), yet I have no desire to do so in the second game. You get only one costume set, that you have to store in the bank? And you can only wear them as town clothing? No thanks.

Same applies to armor skins.

Make this more attractive anet, and you shall have my money.

[ART] "Eir" hairstyle (Norn) Bugs

Reported these quite some time ago via the ingame bug report, but seeing as my last bug report got fixed within a few days, here goes

The “Eir” hairstyle has two major and one minor issue. The major ones being a badly wrapped texture, and a solid point rig on the tip of the braid (eally looks bad while running), and the minor being a bad “bouncy” hair animation.

See image for a better idea.

Keep up the good work

View/Draw distance

in Suggestions

Guild Wars 2 is an exceptionally nice looking game, but you cant really appreciate that when you are in the middle of a beautiful landscape, and about 100 meters from you there is always this ugly distance fog like we are running a game on a Playtation 2.

Even on the highest settings, the fog is just too close, and the landscape fades out way too soon in my opinion.

Same applies to NPC’s and Characters loading – its really annoying when you go into a town, and characters don’t appear unless you are a specific distance away from them (this distance being about 30 ingame meters, which is, imo, really small).

(This is with all the settings, cept for shadows and AA set to maximum).

So my suggestion is simple – Make an option for an increased View/Draw distance, for the environments, and for the NPC’s.
