I mentioned it a few weeks ago on these forums and the community showed zero interest… but, the slot 8 and 9 utility skills swap every now and then when entering/leaving underwater, and even entering/leaving dungeons/fotm. This will translate to your on land abilities as well. Making this the MOST annoying bug when farming champs in frostgorge.
For sake of replication, I normally have the elixir gun in slot 9 with any elixir in slot 8 when underwater, and the elixir gun in slot 9 with the flamethrower in slot 8 on land.

I am not sure what is going on but when I am underwater the number 8 and 9 utility slot keep on switching places (Elixir gun in slot 8, Elixir B in slot 9). I’ll change it back, run a dungeon or change maps and they will swap places again. Can we get a fix?

HoM Calculator Website not working?

I tried going to the HoM calculator website today, I am getting the same garbbaled nonsense as everyone else. This issue is more than likley on Anets end as there is no way that everyone on this forum uses the same ISP, and even less likely we are all in the same area. Anet please fix this issue.
By the way, my work around is to copy the HTML code and put it into dreamweaver, it isn’t perfect but you can at least see what still needs to be worked on.

In WvW you can oneshot people with rifle…
It’s not a matter of one shotting people with a rifle, which btw means you’re in full beserker, which btw means you’ll probably be one shotted as well.
If the Dev is saying that most people use pp or ps, shouldn’t they do something to help the rifle? This would imply that there is something wrong with the rifle that would make people not want to use it.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
As soon as anybody asks a question related to the Engineer in an interview, either the dev doesn’t know what to say or he’ll start talking about another class.. Kinda sad to watch, which is why I don’t bother watching what the devs have to say anymore. I recommend you do the same. We haven’t had anything significantly important happen to us since sigils would proc on kits, which is something we should have had before launch. Turrets still suck in PvE, gadgets are situational at best, when they change traits they completely ruin them (kit refinement). The devs are clearly disconnected from their own game since PvP is the only thing that seems to matter to them atm (and the living story garbunkle), as long as we’re ok in PvP they could care less how we are in PvE. With every patch since release, I’ve had to spend time that should have already been spent making sure each trait is still functioning. When we bring up an issue with our class (IE Every turret trait not functioning) they will acknowledge it but it will take quite some time for it to be fixed. Yet they can continue to waste time buffing already over powered classes, or hotfix other classes’ bugs, leaving us high and dry. Every patch this far has been “exciting” to the devs yet as somebody who plays the Engineer I have yet too see anything exciting. All I see is incompetence caused by a lack of vision and direction for our class, as well as a source of unneeded stress. I could offer suggestions on how they could fix this, but many others, including myself, have already done this since release; and most of those have been ignored.

TL:DR
Welcome to the world of the Engineer.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Most top hard core EU WvWvW guilds do not accept medium armor professions. They might sometimes use thieves as scouts, providing blast finishers and doing stealth stomp, placing traps etc. But rangers and engineers are not wanted in WvWvW.
Reroll, run solo or become a commander yourself. ;-)
It’s the same on the American servers. The serious WvWvW guilds want heavy armor and light armor only.
As far as PvE goes, I normally don’t have any problems. When I do have problems, they involve some ignorant child in CoF. My solution is to join CoF groups that say, all are welcome, or just run another dungeon.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Counterpoint to countersuggestion: If they made the Engineer’s Class Mechanic the Kits instead of the Toolbelt, then we’d essentially be a tech-based Elementalist in heavier armor. Such a change might actually drive me, at least, from the Engineer – I don’t like using Kits to begin with, and if they were promoted to class mechanic, I’d have to. If I want that kind of gameplay, I have an Elementalist…who I already don’t play.
Instead, to make a comment about the class mechanic: I’d rather they let us choose our Toolbelt skills independently of our Utility skills. It would open up a lot of unexpected combinations – and build diversity, after all, is a pretty big concern. Relatively small change, with unpredictable results.
Also: Don’t combine turrets into a kit. That would be overpowered – five turrets, on top of two other Utility Skills (or three, if the OP’s suggestion was implemented), would just be nuts. If you really want Turrets to be linked to Bundles somehow, then have each Turret be able to be picked up and used as an improvised weapon.
Both the Engineer and the Ele are the only classes to not have weapon swap, Eles get a cooldown between their attunments, BUT they have access to all their attunments by default. I’m not saying that we need access to every one of our kits (which would impose a cool down on our kits, that’s a no no). I’m saying we need to be have access to SOME of our kits without getting penalized for it.
As far as my turret kit suggestion goes, that is the ONLY conceivable way to make them useful in PvE. Yes there will be balancing issues starting out but the turrets will be used and there would be much rejoicing. I agree that turrets are just fine in PvP however, in PvE they are just a step above useless. When it comes to doing a dungeon, having a turret Engineer is worse than a longbow bear Ranger. Skills and traits need to be spit entirely from PvE to PvP, similar to what happened in GW1. Anet looks at the turrets from the PvP perspective and sees that they are fine and are not checking the PvE perspective to see if they are good to go. That is the only reasonable explanation as to why 9-10 months in turrets are still a step above useless.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
(edited by Specterryu Quipter.8412)
You don’t lose a skill slot by using a kit. You have the toolbelt skills for that.
You are failing to get the point. We are sacrificing a utility slot for what should be a “secondary weapon.” Eles have 4 attunments and can freely select their utility skills; every other class (except us) has access to 2 weapons, and they do not have to sacrifice a utility slot for it. We are penalized for something that every class has access to in some way shape or form. The tool belt is not all it is cracked up to be. Yes we do have the tool belt, but we are not able to select those skills, they are based off the skill in the corresponding utility slot. This creates a lack of options, a lack of options creates a lack of builds.
This is why the Ele is so powerful in comparison, they have access to not only every attunment by default, but can freely select their utility skills at the same time. Could you imagine if the Ele had something similar to what we Engineers have to deal with? What if Eles had to equip their attunments on their utility slots? So if they wanted every attunment, they would have to use all their utility slots for their attunments, and not have access to a weapon swap. This is exactly the kind of asinine crap that we have to deal with.
end rant
I like the OP’s suggestion, in fact I have seen this mentioned before on reddit and these forums.
Here is a counter suggestion:
6 classes share weapon swapping with a unique trait for each, Eles have Attunment swapping. Why not make the Engineer’s “attunments” our kits? Our traits will have to be reworked for this, but since most of our traits need to be reworked anyway, I fail to see any reason why this couldn’t be done.
Off topic but… combine turrets to make a turret kit.
kthxbye

If you go power HGH with rifle you can take speedy kits. This is good an argument for the rifle and you can save teammates from stomp / interupt heal / decap spots with the rifle #4. The bad thing is that only #4 from the rifle is a real good skill. The rest is bad.
You can do the same with the shield #4 without having to CC yourself. Or Magnet. Or BoB.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Yes Yes Yes Please!
As a high tech Asuran, with futuristic T3 cultural gear with the hopes of a fractal fusion device on my back, I am so happy too look like an Asuran Gate Techy. Then, I get so disappointed when I swap to a kit and I suddenly look like a 1900’s Army Soldier. :’(
I would love to at least be able to toggle kit pack on/off or change color or upgrade them. I would also pay real money for this since this is my favorite character and favorite class but can not stand the hobo pack it comes with!
No, you should not have to pay real money to change the hobo sac. Especially since the hobo sac is a core item with our class and adding more hobo sac skins, or a toggle, should have been thought of when the game was in beta.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
wtf kitten dude im not screaming for attention, ok all are great armor but all im saying and a lot of people think like me trust me that light armor look more for an enginner than the medium one same with dredge armor sets all im saying is that necros Mesmer and eles gonna look more like an engineer than engis that all …..oh look that an engii..not is a necro
That’s all a matter of opinion. Even if they were to switch the light and medium armor sets, just as many people would be crying over the light armor getting the “Engineer” armor.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
So I ate so much candy that I puked all over Lion’s Arch. Then an idea clicked. Re-purposing this animation for use in well utility skills! While merely a cosmetic improvement, it would certainly solidify the aesthetic of a necromantic mage to see the player vomiting out a black combo field. This also fits into the bodily functions aesthetic set forth by Foul Current. Or to take this to shark-jumping levels, the player’s head could spin and vomit for the downed skill “Fear.” I think such changes could inject some comedy into even mundane encounters.
That would be terrifyingly annoying.
Lets do it!
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
How about change “Mortar” to “Arrow Cart” ?
Only if the Arrow Cart is an exact duplicate of WvW’s.
Genius. To make it not as OP reduce the damage, or increase the cooldowns between skills.

I know this will probably be lost to the bowels of the GW2 forums, but I wanted to put it out there anyway.
Can we have options to disable certain items on the HUD? I know we can disable the HUD completely, but can we get the ability to shut off certain items in the HUD? TBH all I really want is for the stuff on the top right and top left disabled. Leaving the party window as the only item up top. I’d probably shut off the XP bar unless I’m leveling too.
Let me elaborate a bit. My vision is horrible, so bad that I have to play on a low resolution 1280 X 720 on a 46 in TV. (Yea i know…) Because I play on such a low resolution everything on the HUD is huge. I want to be able to see more, and certain items on the HUD are in the kitten way. I know wanting to be able to see more may seem counter intuitive, since I have bad vision anyway. But when you have a “smaller screen” with the HUD being enormous, you’re going to want to shut certain windows off. You already knocked out one bain of my existence, the right mouse button. For that I am thankful, but can we please get a toggle for this?

Holy run-on sentence.
I don’t know what you’re flaming about, or if you’re just vying for attention. But I think the devs did it right with these armor sets. They all scream steam punk, but at the same time each one suits the correct armor types. Even if people think they are ‘ugly’ you cannot deny the amount of work that went into these. Plus, this could mean that we may start seeing more armor skins soon.

It may have been on guru/reddit, but as I recall an anet dev did respond.

I stick with the Engineer because the other classes are too simplistic. Simplicity bores me.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
I found with FT the issue you hit is that you do not get as many tags due to the mid ranged abilities and just the way FT functions when at it’s max range, also if you push in hard you take nasty retal hits.
If your key on sticking with FT I would advise a more tanky gear setup if your not already doing so. Knights or invaders, and maybe augmenting your build with another ranged option.
You’ll want to mix Soldiers in with Knights gear. Retaliation ignores armor so knights gear, while not useless, would not help when it comes to retaliation. I’m sitting at 21k health and 3k toughness, not counting jug, with a 40% crit, I hardly even notice retaliation.

I was originally thinking of a Gadget called Portable Asura Gate. And could be thrown similar to the Throw Mine.
Portable Asura Gate: Toss a beacon that will teleport you to its location after a short delay, Stunning nearby targets for 2 seconds when your warp. Removes Cripple, Chill, and Immobilize.
-1/2 second cast time.
-Cool down: 35
-Skill activation Delay: 4 seconds.
-Stun Breaker
-Stun for 2 seconds.
-Attack Range: 120Tool Belt Ability: Displacement Field: Surge your Portable Asuran Gate creating field around you that will cause the next attack to miss and Teleport the attacker to a random location, Dazing them for 1/2 second.
-1/2 second cast time.
-Field Duration: 2 seconds
-Teleportation Range: 900
-Daze 1/2 second
-Cool down: 40 seconds. But I’d love to see this Concept spread into a Kit. There could be so many innovative moves. Perhaps:

-Immobilize duration: 2 seconds.
-Cool Down: 20 Seconds(5) Portal Pulse: Channel a powerful electromagnetic energy from your Portal Gun opening personal gates for yourself and nearby allies teleporting them to safety. While I would love to see us get a melee weapon, don’t even count on it until they begin working on an expansion. Reason being, they would need to make traits for any new weapons introduced to the game, as well as balancing issues. Pretty much every class atm wants access to more weapons.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
First get it fixed, that will already be one step in the right direction. -.-
HAHAHAHAHA, something fixed for us means they broke two other things.

Anyhow,
@the rest: I decided that it was just an extremely strong elite in 1v1 duels, and about where it should be in proper tPvP, so this thread can be locked. I would like to say that I am somewhat disappointed in a lot of the responses to this thread, as rather than trying to be constructive or helpful they seem to be meant more towards flaming me as opposed to anything else. I typically welcome other players from other communities fairly readily to the Thief forum, and while I understand that it can be frustrating to have something called “OP”, I did not instantaneously come here to ask “NERFNERFNERF” (unlike other profs have done to thieves), I just came here to ask for a more useful perspective on the elite, and I maintained a very open-minded view throughout my posts. A few of you, earlier in the thread, were quite helpful and generally friendly, but I’m disappointed that the rest of you decided to act so immaturely.
~Arctu
You’re in the Engineer forums, you will need thicker skin to be in our presence. While you claim you were not advocating the nerf hammer, the stance you were taking made it seem like you were leaning towards it. Because of this the community will lose it’s kitten mind. Not that I was/am trying to flame you or anything.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
I don’t see it that overpowered. The turrets are quite frail and any enemy smart enough will kill them quite easily, especially since with their huge hitbox you can hit all of them even with melee attacks. Also, AoE.
And to trait it you have to give up other turret traits, since we’ve got a total of four major traits in that tree regarding turrets, so there is a drawback there too.True. But in PvP, it’s strong for being able to cap a point really easily, or at least get a bunch of ticks on it.
The same can be said for a bunker guardian. This thread is going no where…
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
So what I’m getting at is this, the engineer is completely inferior (not in gameplay, I’ll still run most dungeons with mine when my guild doesn’t need me on my guard) to the guardian in dungeons. In terms of support and dps it’s not a contest, the guardian comes out better on both than an engineer who specializes on one.
From a developer’s viewpoint, this means one of three things. Either give the engineer an edge in damage or support to the guardian, redesign dungeons so that warriors and guards aren’t as terribly better than everything else in them, or lastly, give warriors and guardians massive damage nerfs.
The last one is the most controversial, but if there are only two classes which trivialize a piece of content, why not reduce their capabilities in that content? The devs keep touting this, balancing game modes separately, so why not apply it to a problem which dungeons have had for a very long time. Funny thing is, had I posted this in the guardian forum, people would be outraged about the prospect of not out-dpsing the engineer while being able to facetank a landslide.
tldr
The guardian is flat out better than any kind of engineer in dungeons. Engineers need to be either better at supporting a party or more damage to keep an edge, alternatively dungeons can be modified to benefit classes like the engineer (such as extending condition caps or introducing melee reflect).
That’s what I have been thinking for awhile now, it isn’t that we are under powered. It’s that certain classes out preform us immensely. I want my Warrior, Guardian, and Ele to be nerfed into oblivion, the amount of dps they can pull compared to other classes is insulting. Insulting to the point where I don’t even want to use them anymore, because it feels too easy mode. Granted the Warrior takes a huge tax in PvP due to their effectiveness in PvE. But I don’t even care at this point, I feel that the gap between the aforementioned classes and the rest is so wide, that it brings up the question as to why to bother playing anything else?
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Still, the ability to instantly dominate a point in PvP is just insane, IMO. Turrets are generally extremely good for bunkering on points, but they require individual utility slots and really ought to be improved by the Inventions trait line. SCrate, though, pretty much throws down the equivalent of those three utility slots instantaneously, with healing and a possibly rather long stun as well.
Yes it’s good in 1v1/PvP but in PvE/WvW that is a whole ’nother story.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Another build that will be torn to shreds by this disgusting community.
To the community: Offer him/her suggestions to improve their build, instead of saying it won’t work.
To the OP: Welcome to the Engineer forums.I see 4 posts above yours, and each of them is giving advice without being insulting.
Yours is actually the first post I see that is NOT giving any suggestions at all to improve.
Maybe that was because I was trying out his build before judging it? Funny whenever there is an argument to be had, you magically appear. Before I break down his build and offer suggestions, let me defend myself.

Sorry I do not think you build works -Lupanic
Should I continue? No, I think that will do.
Now onto my judgment of this build.
This build tries to do a bit of everything, I think what it needs the most is to not be in SPvP. The amulets while a neat idea for S/TPvP, doesn’t allow for a more polished build, it’s just a bunch of generic stats. Because of this genericness this build struggles in SPvP, and most certainly would not be used in TPvP. The build is all about burst, as most SD builds are, but you aren’t forced to waste a utility slot to be bursty. The only downside is because of the stupid generic amulets in S/TPvP, this build will not be good there. You don’t dish out enough DPS to be useful to an organized group, you also are struggling to hold nodes, due to being bursty but nothing else. D/D Eles, Thieves, Burst Warriors, and Tank Guardians eat this build alive.
I made some changes to get this build adjusted to WvW/PvE, SD benefits from Power and Precision, and the OP wanted to be a tank, so this part was a no brainer. Knights Gear. Now SD needs some crit damage, so I put in some Berserker Amulet, Accessories, Rings, and Back piece. I used Ruby Gems. Next while this is a more personal change, I hate the rune of Melandru, and swapped it out for the Rune of the Pack, since everything it offers, benefits this build. Next up the Rifle offers more Power and CCs for this build. I swapped out Rocket Boots for Throw Mine, to keep your gadget vibe, and swapped the Med Kit for Healing Turret, so you can offer more to your group. I only made one change to your traits, since you are no longer using a shield. I changed it from Reinforced Shield, to the Rifle Mod.
After this was accomplished, I noticed this build performed quite well. I’m bad at explaining things, so here is the build itself:

The double daze, and the ability to block and attack at the same time. The knock back, that doesn’t knock you on your kitten (Rifle i am looking at you). Reflecting a Warriors kill shot is hilarious as well.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
+1, as a counter suggestion what about an in between for medium and heavy armor, as well as an in between for light and medium armor? Or just say heck with it and make class specific armor again. Each with their own stats.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
If they’re alive long enough to kill themselves from retaliation, then I’d say those turrets put in some work.
Now that I’ve burst out laughing… Yes our turrets take damage from ret. They are immune to all other conditions though, which is something that everyone else’s minions have to deal with. I think this is a fair trade. By trade I mean, since turrets are the worst minions in the game, could you imagine them taking condition damage as well all the other crap that 2 shots them?

Ive been thinking about going for a legendary for a while now and I was wondering, do the predator and quip still have unique animations for grenade barrage?
No. I wish that our legendaries would affect our kits though, some kind of special effect for each kit. Wouldn’t be too hard since we only have 3 Legendaries accessible.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
If block duration on static shield went from 2 seconds to 3 seconds then it would definitely be perfect~
Uhm I was actually thinking 5 like what’s enjoyed by other classes and mobs.
Lol, we don’t get what is enjoyed by other classes, only a fraction of the fun.

Really, I’d given up bothering about weapon skins as I spend so little time using them.
haha, i don’t. i use my rifle more than anything else.
You must be using a really bad build. (Honest opinion)
Byte your tongue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgEyg769cDc
Oh hello there “pro” WvW player.
Let’s be honest here, I can take whatever trait and whatever weapons I want in WvW and make it work. Nice try buddy.
I’m sorry if you felt offended by a Youtube video. I just wanted to correct your statement, and point out that the rifle integrates very well in strong builds, striking outrageous amounts of damage and knocking down any opponent (3.5K – 12k damage).
And no, you can’t choose any trait and any weapon and then make them work in WvW, that would be ridiculous. You actually need to think, plan, test and rework a build in order to make it work. Cheers
I’m sorry but you can literally make anything work in WvW with the over inflated stats . But if you are up for it you should go in a sPVP tournament with your rifle only build since you think rifle is such a great standalone weapon and see how you do.
Edit: Some cool extra information for you – WvW’s are kitten a pvp and we have all seen it in countless videos.
you’re a bit too smug for anyone to really care about your opinions here pal. who are you to say what i or anyone else is doing isn’t working? i mean unless it’s some genius pvdooring with pistols you really don’t have a place to correct people. let me guess, the only builds that ‘work’ for you are cookie cutters? that’d sure be ironic.
Shhhh, no more tears only dreams.

Magnetic Shield should be 25 sec cooldown and Static Shield should be 30 sec
its almost required to get the shield trait to make it work
You don’t get the extra toughness in a kit though. I’d rather take Power Shoes.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
I’m not going to sugar coat things for you, if you left because you were dis satisfied with the game, there is no reason for you to come back yet.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
What would be a good target point for condition damage?
I’d say if you’re around 1000, you’re doing alright.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
So I want to do quite a bit of wvw, while still doing some pve here and there. Now before you see the build, I’m still fairly noob to this game, so please forgive me if this build is… all over the place xD Also, not that great with choosing gear and such. So here it is:
I pretty much want to be critting a lot, so I want the chance over 50%, but I also want to be survivable. I’m going to be using kits along with pistol/pistol, but if pistol/shield is better please let me know. Also, I’d be fine if the tool kit was replaced, but I really do wanna use the flamethrower and elixir gun, unless it’s not recommended to do so.
Thanks for the help.
I am not sure on your play style, but from looking at your build…
-You probably don’t want too much spec’d into your pistols. You have 3 kits, which means you should be switching between them like a mad man and coming back to the pistol for Poison Dart or Static Shot. I’d use Juggernaut for the Might.
-Since you have 3 kits with the pistol, you want to spec more into condition damage than power. The kits you are using benefit more from condition damage and the pistol scales horribly with power anyway. Rabid gear would be my recommendation. I can’t tell if you wanted to have more survivability or not, since you had a few pieces of Valkyrie/Knights. Try mix matching some Knights gear in there as well if this is so.
-While Elixir H is arguably our best heal, you could dish out more support with the healing turret (drop it, over charge it, blow it up for AoE heals). It works well with the Elixir Gun’s Super Elixir.
-Elixir X doesn’t really work with the build it looks like you are trying to achieve, since you’re unable to use any of your kits when in Tornado or Berserker. Try Supply Crate instead.
-I don’t know if it has been changed or not, but last I knew. When having 2 sigils that have a chance to proc on crit, if one procs it puts the other sigil on cool down as well. It looks like you want a high chance to crit, why not use the Sigil of Accuracy instead? If you want to play the might stacking game, try the Sigil of Strength or Battle as well.
Like I said, I am not sure what you are actually trying to go for, so I can’t give you much more advice than this. Good luck to you mate!

All aside about the turret’s kitten AI being terrible to begin with…
I am not sure if it was mentioned or not, but turrets still do not attack world bosses. They just sit there, doing absolutely nothing. Sometimes they will function, but for the most part they just sit there. I am experiencing this on the Maw, Ele, Behemoth, and Shatterer. I’ll test this out on the other world bosses as well.
Edit: I’ve been using the Rifle and Rocket Turret.

I find Anet’s lack of armor for the Engineer disturbing. Yet another nail in the coffin to the fact that our class was rushed.

I’m going to say this, and probably get flamed at but w/e. Necro has the worst down state due to their lack of health when downed. Period. End of Story.
This isn’t a big deal because it is only in PvE. Just waypoint and try again.
This would include WvW as well.
