…mindlessly spinning his greatsword for great justice.

I laughed so hard I almost choked.

Seriously though, until ANET looks at the amount of time played by each profession, I don’t think they are going to see any kind of disconnect, that would warrant them fixing our class. What do I mean by fixing our class? The skill cap for our class is too kitten high, can you really argue against that? The reason the skill cap is so high is because we have too much versatility. Since we have so much versatility we lack balance. I would rather have the devs limit us to 1 or 2 kits, and increase our overall dps; than for us to remain as we are. It would only make sense, since most professions only have access to two weapon sets. Just have those kits be our second “weapon.”

Why do ppl hate the Engineer?!

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

It isn’t that people hate our class. We suffer from too much versatility, and because of this we lack in dps, big time. It gets quite ridiculous when I have to play the kitten piano to pump out as much dps as a war or ranger who is rolling their face on their keyboard. Our glass cannon builds are also considered average dps for other classes. If you have rolled other a few characters, you’ll notice more than half of our traits and some skills come from other classes, so we are the sudo class; what makes this bad, is that our class FEELS like it was thrown together at the last minute. The only unique thing we have are elixirs, kits, and turrets, and turrets don’t work. And you can go even further arguing that most of our kit skills come from other professions. The best part is we lack dps because ANET sees our potential, believe it or not we have the potential to be one of the best dps classes; that is if you can type at 200 words a minute, on two separate computers, and eating a sandwich simultaneously. This class overall feels like you flipped the hard mode switch.

Which bug exactly? This thread mentions two separate bugs.

Does it matter which bug? This is the arguably the buggiest quest in the game. I have ran this quest 5 times today, as well as many times in the past, and I am getting all the aforementioned issues. Sometimes one of the objectives will not update, other times none of the objectives will update. Although my favorite is when the stupid npc decides to swim through the wall to never never land, never to be seen again.

This might sounds like a flame post, but after experiencing this bug on release, I would have thought it would be fixed by now.

Kitless or Solo kit Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Let me start with this, if you’re an Engineer and not using a kit, you’re not playing the class to its full potential (with few exemptions). It’s the equivalent of playing the Elementalist and not switching attunments. With that out of the way you don’t have many options for kitless builds. You have the full Elixir run and gun builds, and static discharge builds. Other than those you can always wip up some kind of gadget build.

Elixir Gun

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Hello Mal,
Sorry it took me a bit to post on here, I was having trouble logging into the forums. Since you wanted me to take a look at your build, I made a few changes. Before I add why I made these changes, I am not sure if you just wanted to add survivability or to be a more group oriented, support engineer.
Here is my edited version:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqqbX7SfF1LJxoCfOkC8bYQP0be5roCVG;TsAA0Cto2yslYL7WutkbNq4Yx0CA
Starting with the skills:
You mentioned in your post, that you wanted more regen, so I left the Healing Turret and (of course) the Elixir Gun. I changed your choice from Elixir U to Utility Goggles. I did this so you can take advantage of your Weapon Sigils. (Changed some of them, more details at equipment)
Continuing with the traits:
I only changed one part from your traits, I took 10 off Alchemy and put 10 onto Tools. I spec’d into Kit refinement. What was my reasoning for this? You need some kind of condition removal (2 preferred) and since you’re using the Elixir Gun you may as well take advantage of its kit refinement ability. With this setup, every 10 seconds you equip the Elixir Gun, you drop a Super Elixir. That equals heals on top of having 1 condition removed. Lets not forget that the Elixir Gun has the actual ability, Super Elixir, so you can drop that any time as well. And you get to have all your toolbelt abilities recharge 10% faster (More Regen). My personal opinion, Cleaning Formula is only worth it if you’re running a full elixir build.
Continuing with the equipment:
I changed your Sigils on your Shield and Harpoon Gun, to the Sigil of Fire. I looked for a Sigil that could increase dps and benefit from Utility Goggles. This was my solution. This is more of a personal preference though, you would probably be fine with what you had before. However, I changed your Runes and Accessories as well. Simply because Healing Power is’t worth much in GW2. I left you with some Healing Power, but with what you had before, you would suffer from diminishing returns.

If you did not really want me to critique on the build in general but the Elixir Gun itself. I would say it is beginning to be my favorite tool kit. You can stack a lot of conditions and increase your dps by simply adding and using the Elixir Gun.

Quite a bit of people outside of this forum have suggested Elixir gun with Grenades. I think mostly when mobs/players are up in your face. Are the other folks wrong? Seems quite a bit suggest that they synergize quite well.

It’s a personal opinion. However, most people I see using the Elixir Gun, are only using the Super Elixir, and taking advantage of the kit refinement ability.

Tank/Support Build

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Yes you have read it correctly. That build does everything, all the while only dropping a little dps. To answer your question doing zero damage is not an option in any dungeon or in fotm. To top it off even if you have a lot of healing power, it doesn’t add much to your heals. It’d be more beneficial to the party to have a glass cannon that drops constantly than it would be for someone to be 100% support, doing no damage.

Let me know what you think of it.

Seems a good build for the engineer. What should I change in this build to get less damage and more utility ().
Friends of mine said that Cleaning Formula 409 is such an awesome skill for support when playing dungeons. I kinda like to let my buddies do the main damage and I support them, keeping them alive an buffed, while debuffing the enemy.

Or this a mindset I can’t use in GW2?

I actually just saw I made wrong topic, topic should be Tank/Support. I’m looking for great sustain en great party utility.

Read the link, don’t just click on the build . You do not sacrifice hardly any dps to add the support and tank aspect with that build. Cleansing formula is a nice support trait but it’s limited with only Elixirs.

You should perhaps link the video so that the rest of us can see what you’re talking about. That said, I agree with your overall assessment. If you compare us to other classes we do mediocre at best. Since our parents (anet) seem to have no clue what they actually want us to do yet, the whole class suffers. There are builds out there that make our class shine. Most of them are very creative, and work very well; but since they are not another thread complaining about the class, they don’t get much attention. (Not trying to sound like a kitten) I’ll link a few for you.

Engineers: Only for Elite players?

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

The issue with the Engineer can all be derived from one word, balance. What a lot of people do not like is, it sounds like you’re playing the piano with the amount of keys that you have to press to be on par with other classes. Were Warriors or Guardians, you just spam your auto attack with the occasional number 2 and they’re the top dps. To add onto that, we have the most bugs of any class. But, even if they fixed every single bug that is associated with the Engineer, we’re still bogged down by high cool downs, low dps, and useless traits. The only way around the low dps, is to play a glass cannon build or learn to play the kitten piano.
This isn’t me making a fuss over the Engineer, this is me recapping everything people complain about when they play this class. While playing something like a Warrior is easy mode, I find myself bored in minutes. I actually enjoy this class, and when I play other classes, I simply do not get the same amount of enjoyment that I get when playing the Engineer.

So while messing around with some of my potential builds, I sort of accidently built this build. It’s an actual support build that doesn’t sacrifice too much dps. To top it off, you have many defensive traits, and skills, to keep you alive. With this build I can not only support the party, I can tank, and even out dps some of the other classes. (Who would have thought it possible) For me this build flows perfectly, since it fits my play style. I have been using this build in PvE, WvWvW, and SPvP. Please try it out and let me know what your opinions on it are.

Copy and paste the link in your browser to avoid the bad link bs

Before I get questions about why I decided against using a Grand Master trait, none of the GM traits seemed to fit the build.

How to DPS
While running into range use the Throw Wrench ability for some boomerang action and some Hip Shot as necessary. Then use the Rifle’ 3 attack (Blunderbuss), then switch to the Tool Kit, use the 2 and 3 attack (Box of Nails and Prybar), switch to the Elixir Gun and use the 4 attack (Acid Bomb). Run back in using the Elixir Guns 3 attack (Fumigate) to hit everything, then switch to the Rifle and use the 3 attack again (Blunderbuss). With this combination, you will take out groups very quickly, and ruin anyone’s day.

How to heal?
This is generally at the players discretion, and can’t really be commented on. I could answer, what heals do you have?
You have Regenerating Mist, Healing Mist, Super Elixir (x2), Healing Turret, Cleansing Burst. They may not add up to much individually, but you add all of these together and you throw quite a bit of healing out. A tidbit of advise though, after you use the Healing turret’s Cleansing Burst ability, detonate the turret. Don’t forget that all of your heals (Except deploying your healing turret) are AoE Heals. Put those heals somewhere beneficial to the group.

How to tank:
With this build you have so many heals, condition removers, as well as a block and 3 seconds of either invincibility or invisibility (or stability, meh). You also have Speedy Kits, so you can move around faster than most. Adding onto the above, you have power, vitality, and toughness armor, and a load of defensive traits. You’ll be fine, stand next to that Boss, or Hundred Blades Warrior.

Oh, I have a condition on me:
Switch to the Elixir gun, use the 5 ability (Super Elixir). Since you are also spec’d into Kit Refinement, you also drop a Super Elixir every 10 seconds when you switch to the Elixir Gun. So you have 2 condition removers. You also remove conditions and heal near by players.

I need to get away/troll, what do I do?
Use the Toss Elixir S to either go invisible or gain stability. If you go invisible, get as far away as possible. When you pop out wait 2 seconds (rendering) dodge, then use the Tool kit’s number 2 and 4 abilities (Box of Nails and Gear Shield) to slow the idiot chasing you down, and block anything coming your way, dodge again. If needed use Elixir S for 3 more seconds of trolling. If you gain stability, RNG has failed you yet again, do the above; but you will not have that extra 3-4 seconds of get away time.

Is the boss/player/mob not where you want it?
Pull that sucker to you with the Tool kit’s number 5 ability (Magnet).

Suffice to say this build has a lot of options and is a lot of fun. I hope my fellow Engineers find some usefulness from this build. Either way I’ll be using it until the next nerf.

I am surprised by the zerg/aoe sizes from Kaineng WM. I have seen plenty of zergs but they have some disciplined zergs that seem built to drop massive amounts of aoe. I imagine it is not much fun to run in them but they sure are effective.

They are indeed very disciplined. Though I have noticed their main strength is abusing the culling system in place. I don’t know if that is indicative if what T1/2 servers are all about, but it’s kinda lame and makes me lose some respect for them. I mean, it works, clearly, but still, meh.

To set somethings clear, Kaineng isn’t abusing the culling system; culling is affecting both sides equally. Simply put, the responsibility for culling, lies with Anet, and it needs to be fixed. If we have a hundred players that want to do wvwvw, do you think we turn them away because it could cause rendering issues?

In all seriousness though, good fights from all sides today. I hope things stay this eventful throughout the week.

This thread would be a hell of a lot more useful if you actually said what “RNG” means.

It is one of the most universal and known terms in video games. Why does it have to be explained in every thread? If you do not know, simply ask. There is not need for a backhanded implication in your remark.

It means “random number generator” refering to the random oppertunity for varying effect from a skill.

Example :
Toss Elixir U, creating a random spell at the target location.

Range: 900

Can create one of the following wall spells:
Veil, Smoke Screen, or Wall of Reflection

My apologies, there have been so many posts explaining RNG, that I didn’t think I would even have to do that. Please refer to the above quoted user for an answer to what RNG means.

Livestream 1/18 Engineer is fine?

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Ladies and gentlemen, the rant is about to begin, I’ll put this bluntly as possible. He’s either lying through his teeth or an idiot; or both. All I saw, in the Engineer portion of the video, was somebody dodging a bullet.

I’m calling him an idiot, simply because the split between professions is skewed data. They should be showing TIME PLAYED for each profession. Any bloke can create an Engineer, but who plays it, and who lets it sit in their character log in? And until I see factual hard data on this topic, I’ll take this as ignorance on his part.

I’m calling him a liar since he had the tenacity to say, “Grenade kit rocks, even after the update,” not to mention the other bloke actually agreed with him. It’s all quite sickening. I doubt this gentlemen has played the grenade kit (Or the Engineer?) since the update. Almost anyone here that has tried out the grenade kit since the last update would agree, that if you’re running, just a grenade build; your dps is outstandingly low compared to pistol, rifle, or other kit builds.

I’m just tired of this word, “versatility.” If our overlords are having a hard time figuring out what “versatility” means, remove it altogether. As of right now, any class that was supposed to be “versatile” is under powered. Over while, the classes that were not formed around “versatility” are insanely overpowered. What ever happened to this so called balance that or overlords were trying to achieve? If we were truly balanced, we would only have to press 1 and 2 to be on par with the Warrior; or the Warrior would have to use every single ability to kill one mob.

Our overlords need to give each class a role, in both pve and pvp, and build that class accordingly. Quit trying to build your classes around a single word. Why can’t they just give us a large selection of skills to choose from to make an 8 skill build. Where have I seen this before… GW1 perhaps?

They could just give me my kitten bug fixes, and either increase my overall dps, or lower the stupid long cool downs on my abilities. I would be on my way, and be merry.

This all boils down to the devs. Yes live streams are nice and informative to the community, but when it makes you look like a kitten, it damages your reputation with your own community. I’d rather have never seen that footage, and continue to pretend that our overlords knew what they were doing. I really hope they get their act together before they aggravate more of their own community.

Laptop for GW2?

To answer your question:
You will want a mid tier or higher dedicated video card in your laptop if you want to play GW2 at any kind of decent frame rate in wvwvw. Chances are you have an integrated video card. An integrated video card is adequate for your average facebook/youtube/non-serious gamer (Win 98 Pinball, or facebook games comes to mind.) but struggles with games that are taxing on the video card. While GW2 puts a lot of pressure on the processor, it puts enough pressure on the video card that if you’re running GW2 with an integrated card. Your game will “come to a slide show” when there is a lot for it to render. Here is a benchmark list of laptop integrated and dedicated video cards while running GW2. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Guild-Wars-2-Benchmarked.81604.0.html

You nailed the head, my whole purpose in making this thread was exactly as you said; to describe the issues that I have come across, while playing my Engineer. My offering suggestions on fixes, are just ideas that I have. I am admittedly not a very creative person, but perhaps by shedding some light on our issues, we can ban together and figure something out. Mortar: Not enough range (should be 3000) and doesn’t do enough dps (increase by 25%+).

Weapon skills:
Oh, God please make him shut up, he’s continuing.

Pistol: (Main hand)
Explosive Shot: Great crowd control, the bleeds need to have either their duration increased or another bleed tic.

Poison Dart Volley: Good burst skill, but lacks accuracy. Nothing like being point blank and having a bullet or 2 go God knows where.

Static Shot: Very good skill, nothing to complain about.

Pistol: (Off hand)
Blowtorch: If this skill actually functioned 100% of the time, I would have nothing to complain about. Ever have one of those moments where you look at your screen dumbfounded and have no idea how that happened. That is my experience every time I use this bugged attack. This attack either works, or it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t you could potentially see fire coming from your side or kitten. It seems to be a timing issue to be perfectly honest, sometimes this skill will activate while the animation is showing your hand still coming up. Other times you just get the glorious “miss.”

Glue Shot: Very good skill, nothing to complain about.

Rifle: Boo, shotgun animations using a rifle. I will be frank, (as I have been this whole thread) we should have been given the warrior rifle skills, and all these skills should have been made into a shotgun kit, or an actual shotgun. Nothing like shooting the amazing legendary sniper rifle from the hip. As a side note, nobody that shoots any kind of rifle, shoots it from the hip; it’s both stupid and dangerous. It’s the equivalent to shooting a pistol sideways or one handed.

Hip Shot: Nothing to complain about.

Net Shot: Nothing to complain about.

Blunderbuss: Increase the range to 800-400. It is very stupid to have to be INSIDE melee range to hit people with this attack’s full power.

Overcharged Shot: Oh thanks for the knock back… and the the self knock back. Where have I seen this before? Oh yea… the rocket boots. This has all the same issues and limitations from that. Just give me a knock back (like the warrior rifle) without the self knock back.

Jump Shot: This skill works, and is useful. I have one complaint though. When using it you sort of hover in the air for a second before you stomp on the ground. In PvE that wouldn’t matter too much, but when vsing an actual player, it makes the skill very easy to dodge. If the hover mechanic was removed entirely this skill would be just fine.

Shield:
Magnetic Shield: Good call with the shield, but I would like this to be similar to the Gear Shield; meaning, being able to move around and block.

Static Shield: Good as is.

Elixirs:
Great idea with the elixirs, I mean the elixirs themselves. The RNG factor needs to go away in its entirety. Refer to my Elixir H rant, located on the top, for my opinion on Elixirs; and how they can be improved.

Elixir B: Boon me up Scotty. Love it, toolbelt has RNG. Needs to have its cooldown reduced to 30 seconds.

Elixir R: A self rez? Why thank you, we’ll need that a lot when a gs warrior kills off our turrets in one hit. Another surprisingly useful elixir, the only way I think this can be improved is if they lower the cool down on the skill itself to 40 seconds.

Elixir S: Best Elixir in the game. 3-4s second invincibility. Can only be improved by removing the RNG off the toolbelt ability.

Elixir U: RNG all the things. I heard you liked RNG, so I put RNG in your RNG.

Kits:
Yay! They finally made it so our sigils work on our kits. If they would just let our weapon’s stats affect our kits, I think we would be in the clear. As far as kits as a whole go, some kits need some revamping, badly.

Tool Kit: Pry bar anyone? This kit itself is the definition of versatility, but it lacks in the auto attacks damage output. I can pull more dps from pistols than the tool kits’ auto attacks. The toolbelt ability needs to have its range extended to around 1200. If I am actually going to try to repair my turrets, I do not want to be anywhere near them.

Bomb Kit: Doesn’t do enough dps, a small increase in the total damage (5%?) could possibly make this a force to be reckoned with. Big Ol’ Bomb is amazing.

Elixir Gun: The only thing that is (was?) useful about this kit is the Super Elixir. The DPS is outright pathetic, hitting an opponent with a stuffed teddy bear would do more damage than this kit. The dps needs to be increased by 25%-50%. The tool belt ability needs to have its cooldown reduced by 20%ish. The toolbelt and kit, both need to have their healing increased by 30%. This kit, just needs help.

Flamethrower: What is the most common thing, we as engineers, see when using the flamethrower? Miss, obstructed, or invulnerable? If you said miss you are correct! This kit has great potential, but I will never use it when I can run into a small room with a million adds, and miss everyone of them. Damage wise, the flamethrower isn’t bad. You’re probably getting tired of seeing this, but the toolbelt ability needs to be reduced by 20%.

Grenade Kit: Do I dare touch such a sore spot left by the last patch? The damage reduction is downright the most stupid thing I have seen since GW1, the appearance of Shadow Form Assassins. The grenade kit itself is very challenging to use, there is no auto attack option, and even the damage output is (was) only average. In no way or form do the sigils come close to making up for the 30% damage reduction. If this kit was to get back that 30% even 20% of the damage that was taken away; I think this kit would be perfectly balanced.

Elites:
I will keep this short and sweet.

Supply Crate: The only useful Elite we have.

Elixir X: RNG anyone? Oh let us not forget the tornado bug. If you are lucky enough to get the tornado, you could be unfortunate enough to be kicked out of the tornado form right away, and have your elite put on cool down.

Turrets:
This is about to get ugly folks, because with all the problems I have with this game, turrets are the single most disappointing thing I have ever seen. If I am not exploiting the game (I don’t btw) turrets are utterly worthless. The stupid AI that is attached to these, is arguably worse than the necromancer minion AI. All turrets will target mobs in range, and as soon as the target moves out of range the stupid turrets keep on trying to shoot them. Not to mention, that there is no targeting system for these, so they just shoot whatever the hell they want. Personally I think all turrets should have a 20 second cool down, no more, no less. Maybe at lower levels a cool down of 40-60 seconds can be justified. But at level 80 were a Warrior or Guardian, Or Elementist, can just roll all the poor turrets we can pull out. It makes them yet again, useless. What can the overlords do to fix this? It’s simple really, what I am about to say needs to be done for all turrets. Make these puppies scale with armor, weapon damage, health, sigils, and everything else that a player benefits from. I’ll simplify it by saying, let turrets benefit from our stats. I will end the rant here, and only judge the turrets by their actual abilities.

Rifle Turret: Remember that cool Engineer preview, way back when, when an Engineer dropped a rifle turret and it actually soloed some mobs? You, me, and everyone who saw that video was lied to. The only redeeming thing about this skill, is the tool belt ability. For static discharge builds, the Surprise Shot is a must.

Flame Turret: Does a decent amount of damage, but the cool down on this as well as the tool belt ability is way too high. Let us not forget that this turret needs to be up someone’s kitten for them to be in range.

Net Turret: Actually useful, no complaints about the actual skill. However, the toolbelt ability needs to have its cooldown reduced by 50%-75%.

Thumper Turret: Surprisingly the best turret in the game, no complaints about the actual skill. However, the toolbelt ability needs to have its cool down reduced by 75%-90%. Really? Really? A 90 second cooldown for a player AoE? “Don’t worry guys, it’s a combo finisher!” A possible great toolbelt ability, with a stupid, stupid, stupid high cooldown. Kudos to whoever decided upon the cooldown.

Rocket Turret: Useful, does a lot damage, and even has a knockdown. Again with another toolbelt ability that needs to be have its cooldown reduced by 50%-75%.

Shortcomings of the Engineer

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Before I get the L2P comments, let me mention that I have over 900 hours on the Engineer, and done everything with this class (Legendary, map completion, SPVP, WvWvW, etc). This is a collection of all the gripes I have had. This thread will discuss the shortcomings of the Engineer and how it can be improved upon. I will give my honest opinion on each skill and weapon’s attacks. I will not be commentating on race abilities. Feel free to comment, and express your opinions, but keep it clean and constructive.

Skills:

Heals:
Elixir H: Decent healing, but RNG factor. God bless, a RNG factor in our healing abilities. I’ve said this many times to my friends when they consider rolling an Engineer. To which they decide to roll something else. Playing an Engineer is like playing Russian roulette, you could end up shooting yourself in the face or winning all the monies. Oh, but look, the toolbelt skill has even more RNG… I’ll say this here, and with future skills that I refer to having RNG I’ll just say to look up here. In any competitive game, players do NOT want RNG. I saw a post somewhere, talking about what ANET could have done instead, and I think it is a great idea. Have each boon activate at a certain percentage. What do I mean? An example would be to have Swiftness at 75%+ health, Protection at 25%-0% health, and Regen 25%+-75%.

Healing Turret: Good healing, but the regen is bugged. A prime example of a potentially very good skill, being ruined by bugs still running rampant.

Med Kit: Good healing, and the kit itself has condition removal, speed boosts, and more healing. If you’re an Engineer and not using this, I would dare say, you are acting uneducated. (Or playing Russian roulette)

Gadgets:
Utility Goggles: Great skill, but I feel whoever made this had a lack of vision. They could have done much more with this skill, maybe being able to see invisible players? Or a boost to our kit/toolbelt damage output. The toolbelt ability is lacking and needs to have a shorter cooldown. A 40 second cool down on 10 stacks of vulnerability… I’ll stop there before I go on another rant.

Rocket Boots: Great idea for a skill. Poorly implemented. Yes the rocket boots can send you souring through the air, but you will be knocked down on your kitten for a few seconds. Were a Warrior or thief can just burst you to death. Let us not forget the wonderful bug associated with this skill, it may cure immobilization, cripple, and chill. But God bless it, it does all that after you have been knocked down, not right before you go flying though the air, like it should. Great idea, poorly implemented. The tool belt ability is actually very good for condition builds; since you have to be right next to your opponent for many skills anyways. (Blowtorch, all bombs, tool kit, etc)

Personal Battering Ram: Another good skill, with an unusually long cooldown. If they could lower both the skill and tool belt cooldown by 10-15 seconds, this would be a must have skill.

Slick Shoes: Anet had a good idea for this skill. I cannot fathom why they decided to put this skill on a 60 second cooldown. What in heaven’s name were they thinking? This needs a 50% reduction to both the skill itself and the tool belt ability; Before you go, “Oh Specter, you’re crazy, that would be overpowered.” Let’s look at the warrior, the hammer ability backbreaker. Backbreaker knocks down for 2 seconds, the same as slick shoes and it does damage. The tool belt ability and the oil duration need to be 5 seconds. Before your complain that this is far too long, think of it as the Guardians’ Line of Warding. And let us not forget the horribly wrong text for the tool belt ability, you do not run at double speed; enjoy your 33% faster movement. I think they should change the tool belt entirely. What else goes great with oil? That’s right, fire. Your Engineer should use the, used elixir toss animation, to throw a lighter and light the oil on fire.

Throw Mine: Holy moly, another good skill, we do have some. My only beef with this skill is the tool belt ability sort of randomizes the mines’ drop. I think that is more of a limitation on the engine itself though and can be worked around with some kiting.

Let's start predicting the next update

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

To be honest, I don’t think this next patch is going to affect the Engineer much, if at all. We are less than 5% of the players that play GW2. More than likely, what ANET will do is focus on the most played classes, I only say this, because this has been the pattern with these last few updates. I wouldn’t expect anything from them from this point, because until they are forced to play the Engineer and see why less than 5% of players play the Engineer, nothing will change. Granted, I may end up eating my words with this next patch. (I hope)

What I would love to see, is:
Bug fixes (all of them?)
Removal of RNG in its entirety
Turrets scaling with armor, health, and weapon damage
Kits scaling with weapon damage
Additional weapons (like the 1h/2h hammer, repeating crossbow, and other engineer things)
Base pistol 25% damage increase (or increase bleed damage/increase the timer on the bleeds)
Rifles, being used as rifles (Take the current rifle skills and make a shotgun/shotgun kit)
Useful class (not race) elite skills; which are not the supply crate

If you have a decent video card, that will be able to play GW2 on ultra, without dropping below 30fps. I have the same setup and I don’t even overclock my CPU, however I have 2 AMD 6850s. If you want a cheap, but effective video card, go get an AMD 7850 off newegg. Linked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161426
Remember GW2 is CPU intensive, not so much for the Video Card, you do not need to buy a $500 video card to run GW2 on ultra.

To answer your other question, as to whether this will run Farcry 3, Mechwarrior online, etc. The answer is, it will be able to run all games up to date, easily, and on max settings provided you get a decent video card.

Specterryu Quipter.8412

I think one of the big issues right now, is that everyone wants the Engineer to do insanely high dps. There are threads that discuss why certain classes (Warrior) can one shot things, yet even with our glass cannon builds we can maybe 3 shot people. Bug wise, the Engineer needs a lot of help. However, dps wise, the Engineer is fine, I think other classes need to have their dps nerfed. I recently rolled a Warrior to 80, and the damage it produces is in a whole ’nother world compared to us. Not only is the dps insanely high, but if you use a GS, all your attacks hit everything in front. One thing they can do to balance this is maybe reduce the amount of targets that can be hit (To only the target), while leaving the dps the same; or just nerf the damage.

Am I the only one really disappointed with the voice acting?

in Audio

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

While the overall quality of voice acting is good, there is some bad that needs to be ironed out. There are certain instances in both the personal story and random events, Trahearn, all Quaggons, etc where one would question if the voice was just recorded and tacked on, without any editing. You also have scenarios of overacting, The Witch Queen being my biggest example. TBH, I just got so tired of the same exchange of dialog between NPCs, the same sayings from the player, and the annoyingly, randomly, loud NPCs located throughout Tyria; that I have been playing GW2 with the dialog volume off for quite some time. In fact, I feel that this has improved my game play experience and immersion. Now I don’t have to worry about my speakers getting blown up from the exchange between the children, every time I go to the banker in LA. I no longer have to suffer with random tidbits of overacting, or monotone NPCs. One thing I would like to see is an option to change the dialog to another language and keep the text English. At least this way you do not have quiet cut scenes, and you have no clue if the voice acting is good or bad.

I’ll leave you with this:
“Take heed! I haven’t taken leave of my senses! I’ve seen creatures of metal and steam!”
“Always be loyal to your Krewe….”
“I can outrun a centaur.”
“More violets, less violence”
“It’s a bad time to be travelling.”
“I often talk to the spirits but they rarely answer.”
“Care to spend some coin?”
“There is no profit in the eternal alchemy.”
“For great justice!”

“Excuse me! Do you have a moment?”
“Careful, if our parents find out, they’ll kill us.”
“The centaur’s are coming, RUN!”
“Seize the moment!” Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zeNHmvAY5o

Hello my fellow Engineers,
I saw a thread similar to this in the thief forums, and figured we could use our own.

Due to the amount of threads about engineer and its game play impact, I have decided to open this thread in which we can discuss our concerns about Engineers in PvE, sPvP and WvW.
This will allow the devs to collect our feedback with more efficiency and forward them to the appropriate teams.
You can articulate both, positive and negative feedback for it, but I ask you to stay constructive and polite when you want to express your opinion.

My personal opinion, the GW2 Ranger relies too much on the pet. Pets are nice and all, but when most of the traits are geared towards them, it makes them useless in pvp. The GW1 Ranger was much more polished, even when only Prophesies was out, compared to what it is in GW2.

the grenades did too much damage relative to other kits and needed to be nerfed, period. they still do more damage than any other kit.

saying it was because of sigils was just being polite about it.

This isn’t just about the grenade kit. Engineers are very under powered compared to other classes. I shouldn’t have to go into detail on this topic, because if you have rolled any other class, you realize this is true. It seems like ANET can’t figure out what to do with the engineer yet. I’d say in a year or so, we should have some kind of defined roll.

Combined Engineer Suggestions/Fixes

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

This is the best post I have seen on the Engineer forums in a very long time. There are many ideas here that ANET needs to consider. Right now the Engineer is the most unused class, and for good reason. Whether it is lack of vision or idiocy, the engineer is the most under powered class. Anything we can do, another class can it better. If ANET cannot figure out what to do with the engineer, and soon, they need to listen to the community. We have been offering ideas and begging for fixes since release, and haven’t seen anything.

I’ll just leave this rant here, save yourself the frustration and roll a new class, in fact roll a few. So when the next patch buffs the Warrior, Thief, or god forbid continues to put on this “I don’t hear you” act; you can just switch characters. We are the Warlock of GW2, and ANET has not figured out what to do with us yet.

To those above, unless you are video rendering, you do not need an I7. That said, I am not sure if you are still looking for advice or not. However, these are my two cents. Computer brands do not matter, unless you are comparing the companies warranties and the overall price for the computer. Most of the time when people blacklist a company, they do so due to a bad experience. What they do not realize is, any monkey can put together a computer; and any monkey can horsekitten your computer to kingdom come. All that matters is what the computer has inside of it. Frankly, anybody who says otherwise is trending on ignorance or stupidity.
The graphics card in both of those laptops you linked is a Tier 3 card. Meaning you are going to be running Guild Was 2 at around 30 frames per second, on medium-high settings. If all you want to do is play Guild Wars 2 then this should be just fine for you. If you are like myself and want to play on higher settings, as well as having a more future resistant laptop; I’ll link you some better suggestions. The linked suggestions will be around the same price as the ones you are looking at.

Specterryu Quipter.8412

Sir,
To me this sounds like yet another post about X being overpowered, needing to be nerfed. Anyways lets start from the top…

- Clipping
This is a very broad topic. Are you talking about clipping on clothes, or people clipping into towers/keeps? If you are talking about the latter, this was actually addressed in the last update, perhaps you should go read it? I believe this issue has been fixed, as I have not seen it since the last patch.
- Lag/Skill Lag
This is actually an issue more so with your bad computer dropping fps, than ANETS servers. To put it simply, if you are running GW2 without a mid range+, discrete graphics card, you’re going to have a bad time.
- Class Balance
ANET is trying.
- Diminishing Returns on CC Abilities
I read somewhere, in some long abandoned forum, that ANET has plans for this. This will be nice when ANET brings this into GW2.
- Orbs
Are fine, next topic.
- Taking the Jumping Puzzle and PvE content out of WvW
This more or less just needs to have a timer for the player to finish the puzzle, if you go above that timer you are locked out for some time. If you finish the jumping puzzle, you are transferred out. This would also fix camping in the puzzle.

As a side note, there is no need to be rude to the moderators, as this can result in your account getting suspended, or your forum post getting locked. Cheers!

It's time to change the offhand pistol skills

in Engineer

Posted by: Specterryu Quipter.8412

Specterryu Quipter.8412

I am going to have to disagree with you on this subject. Everybody has their own play style, and saying that the P offhand needs to change, because it does not fit your play style, is plain silly. Both the shield and pistol can be used just as effectively depending on the situation that it is used. We could argue back and forth all night throwing math into each others faces, like I have watched you guys do since yesterday, and not come to a conclusion. So I will put in my two cents and tell you why I prefer the P offhand vs the Shield. My build is none of your business, however I have a little over 2100 defense. Since I am a little squishy, I find myself always moving, and kiting all the bad melee users. The shield’s two abilities both root you in place, putting you in harms way, when you could have simply dodged whatever is coming your way. Most people complain that the dodge mechanic is bad, but since I seem to have “mastered” this mechanic, I do not have any need for the shield. So, instead of having a shield which I have no use for, I use the pistol offhand for increased dps and burning. Before you reply with your, “You’re an idiot and you have no clue what you are talking about.” I have no problems decimating in wvwvw or structured 1v1, 1v2, and sometimes 1v3 situations. If you are running into 4+ people by yourself, you’re just being a horsekitten. Anyways, back to what I was saying earlier, the pistol offhand and shield, are both situational. To say one is better than another is like saying Blastoise is better than both Venusaur and Charizard.
